This is no hero game. There is no 'good vs evil'. It's about humanity in its most desperate of times and what people are capable of doing when pushed to their limits with their emotions and minds. Outside of the marmite story, the rest of the game is at the top of its class in all other areas, so giving it a low score because of the story feels like a disservice to all of the hard work the developers have put in to create such a wonderful masterpiece of a world that feels eerily real.

I for one LOVED the story. Without spoiling anything, the game takes an interesting narrative direction during the game, which I have seen no other game do and while some people don't like this, I think it's brilliant. It really makes you focus on the core themes the story is dealing with and makes you question your own morality.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Gameplay: They have greatly refined the mechanics in this game. Simple things like prone, having enemy groups attack each other (also in Left Behind DLC), new gadgets have been added that gives the player more control. In TLOU I found myself sneaking around on survivor/grounded but in this game the AI is so much more difficult. They'll change their patrols if they spot you, they're more aware of each other, dogs have been added, the infected are tougher to get past. There were many times where I'd find myself in a 5-15 minute stretch to sneaking, getting spotted, taking one out, running away, hiding from new patrol, catching a straggler and running back into the tall grass.

Visuals: Nothing to say here, ND has once again outdone themselves. The small animations, the cut scenes, the acting are all top notch. Just play it to find out.

Audio: The screams. The screams of leading a clicker group into your WLF/Scar group, running away and hearing them get torn into pieces linger in my mind. The audio cues of enemy combatants yelling out for their dead dog or friend all just adds to the immersion. That familiar acoustic twang resonates here and provides a great backdrop for the music. Plus, there are some fantastic song covers and musical experiences I'll leave you guys to discover.

Story: This is where the divisiveness is. It was a tough story to swallow I'll admit, but I've learned to accept and love it.

    SPOILERS! SPOILERS! SPOILERS!

Unfortunately, many people are stuck on how Joel is presented in this game and what happens to him. Joel knew he had done enough atrocities and throughout TLOU 2 Ellie even comments on how she knew vaguely that Joel had done these things. Joel made a choice at the end of TLOU and he sticks with it. Whether or not we as the audience supported that choice meant nothing to the fact that Joel had to face the consequences. Despite that, his death led to Ellie and I's need for revenge.

After seeing Joel die I wanted to kill every WLF until I could meet Abby and kill her too. I was done slinking around and being stealthy. I made sure every area was rid of the WLF thoroughly. When the switch happened I felt a gut punch and when I realized that I'd be playing with Abby for a while I didn't know how to feel. It felt like it dragged on, but somewhere along that journey I got to understand Abby and her life more. She had lost her dad, her group and in some ways meaning for life. She had a close friend group and their interactions showed they weren't black and white. By the time it came to confront Abby I realized that my feelings as to who was good or bad was unclear.

    END SPOILER

It seems some people wanted a superhero ending or black and white story and that's not what they got. The characters in this game are human and their decisions and personality developed overtime. People didn't die the "right way" and people didn't get punished the "right way." Perhaps this felt too real to people and it's easier to label this as a "plot hole" or "bad writing."

The first game forced us into an uneasy feeling at the end. Part II forced us through an entire game of uneasiness and for some that was too much to handle. For me it captured just how bleak and brutal the game's world is. It reinforced and portrayed the themes of love, forgiveness and revenge beautifully. Fun is subjective along with good and bad, but I can thoroughly say that I found this fun and memorable and hope others do too.

Naughty Dog aren't in their own league, they're in their own universe.

On display is cinema-grade scripting and performance. The game delivers characters that are meaningful and resonate emotionally. The gameplay is slick and polished, while the combat feels heavy and consequential in a way few games come close to matching. Everything is wrapped-up in an industry-leading presentation, with graphics, visual design, and sound that will leave your jaw on the floor. The content provided is incredibly generous for a narrative experience—with even a quick first play-through lasting around 25 hours (mine was over 32 hours).

The plot has come in for some particular—and wholly unjustified—criticism. At this level of storytelling characters are conflicted and not all plot threads lead to a happy end. The very plot devices that have been criticised by others can be found in some of the greatest works of literature ever produced.

In the end, I think people will eventually come to view TLoU2 in a similar light to Empire Strikes Back. Yes, it's the "slower, more philosophical one with an open ending", but once the trilogy is complete everyone will understand that this is where the real meat of narrative arc lies.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A beautiful and tragic tale of what revenge and grieve does to people, I guess that would be the best way to describe it.

On the technical side, is god damn masterpiece. Animation, environment art, character art, design and more. TLOU2 is the result of the most amazing artists, designers and programmers working in the industry right now, the best way to the end the PS4 era.

On the story. *sigh* Here we go: I loved it. It made me angry, made me feel lust for revenge, made me happy, sad and much more. It was an emotional rollercoaster that made me stay on the edge of my seat the entire time.
It is by no means a "happy ending" game which it what is making people angry! You love Joel and Ellie, you want them to succeed, to survive, to win, they are the protagonist after all. But ND showed us that this world is NOT like Uncharted. At the end of the day is a sad story and that is why is so beautiful, is not about "who wins", is about the characters and they nailed that. My appreciation for Joel and Ellie just wen through the roof and the way they handled the relationship between those two was really good. Also: TOMMY IS A BADASS

Not all is gold of course. My biggest issues are pacing in gameplay and in the storytelling:
In gameplay:n it feels anything when you have played and upgraded Ellie for so much, to suddenly change to Abby and start all over again, no upgrades whatsoever. It feels a big stop to momentum.

In storytelling: Abby's relationship with her father is not explored AT ALL which makes no sense to me since that would have been a better way for us as players to connect with her and feel MORE her obsession with revenge as well. All we got was a cliche flashback where the guy saves a zebra, kinda lie the game telling you "look, he is a very good guy, feel bad for him and Abby!", is not enough ND, it just isn't.

Last but not least: the game is very long, like almost 30 hours or so, and the gameplay stops evolving at some point which makes the last part of the game feel repetitive, but not boring thou thanks to some great level design that does make every encounter feel almost unique.

Final words: don't give in to the hate. Buy it, is an amazing experience that and an awesome game. Also: probably a great game is you need to relieve stress!

Its ambitious and emotionally impactful story, breathtaking visuals, and engaging game play make it one of my most profound video game experiences ever. The story was very emotionally driven and thought-provoking. It's a character study that focuses on the consequences of actions and explores many aspects of human nature. That being said, many events in the game will not be in line with what people have in mind and the characters in the game make decisions that will seem half witted to other people. For me though, the events that transpire in the game felt realistic, reasonable, and it further reinforces the fact that in the world of The Last of Us, there are no heroes and villains, only survivors with their own personal intentions. The character decisions as well were in line with what the character was going through and felt justified based on their development throughout the story. To say that the story is emotionally driven is taking it lightly. There are moments in the story that will just break your heart. It is a sad and depressing tale and yet underneath all of that, there are moments of happiness and joy. It provokes many thoughts and emotions, and through the characters, we are able to experience that. Which is why I think the characters in the game are some of the best and most well realized ones in any video game. You get to feel what the characters are going through and understand the choices they make. It is through these experiences that made me emotionally connect with these characters and made me care for them, especially in this dark and grim world that they are living in. My main issue with the game is regarding its pacing, which I felt was inconsistent and definitely made the game feel a lot longer than it needed to be. It is indeed a story that will definitely not be for everyone, but is definitely for me. The graphics and overall visual presentation of the game is incredible. It is without a doubt one of the best looking games of the generation. Animations are fluid and are some of the best in the industry, specifically the facial animations that looked very realistic. The environments as well provide a tense and realistic atmosphere that further enhances the overall world immersion of the game. Game play, for me, is one of the highlights of the game. Utilizing your arsenal and all the tools that you have during encounters really makes the combat shine. The weapons in the game feel really good to play and quite different from one another. Stealth is simple but effective, and the phenomenal level design allows for multiple ways of dealing with enemies. The upgrading system for weapons is great and each upgrade felt important and impactful to the way you play and handle encounters. Overall, despite the issues I had with its inconsistent pacing and overly long game length, these issues were not bad enough to ruin my experience and make me give the game anything less than what it deserves, a 10/10. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. You can always tell when the internet plans a review bomb, and honestly it's **** sad really. The entirety of LOU has 10k reviews... this has 60k in 3 days lol, so I don't put any stock into the internet troll jobs that are trying to tank this game.

This game isn't a masterpiece, let's get that out of the way. It has an innate flaw built into the story in that it is attempting to build empathy and tell the story from both sides of the coin. In essence, Ellie isn't the protagonist, and Abby isn't the antagonist, these are two people born into a brutally violent world. Both are on the warpath, on quests of revenge after having things done to them that entirely destroy their family, and both are unique in they were powerless to stop it from happening. This game is best boiled down to a tale of two people on a quest of acceptance in finding peace with what the world has done to them, and to ultimately find empathy, and the story works incredibly well. My only real complaint with the story isn't the story itself, but rather the amount of time invested into having to play Abby. Literally half the game is from her perspective. I understand the need for symmetry in a story like this, but I would have preferred a longer more Ellie focused approach, 65/35, 70/30 would have been enough to get the point across I feel. The game play mechanics are smooth, polished, and well done, and the horror elements are there like always, specifically in the hotel/hospital sequences with Abby, those were terrifying, and RAT KING!!! HOLY MOLY!! WOW! As for the people whining about gay relationships etc., politics., I'm a Southern Conservative from Texas, registered Republican, and there was nothing in this game that I remotely considered in your face. The game handled it's messaging well, without being overtly in your face about it.

Overall, the game is a solid 25 hours if you move through the story at a decent pace, and one that I greatly enjoyed. It's not perfect though as I've said. The Abby length of play reminded me of Metal Gear Solid: 2, thought not near to that extreme, and I wish we had more time with Ellie. I do admit though, I ended up liking Abby, felt her struggle/pain, and empathized with her the more time I spent with her, so the idea of telling the story from both angles worked well, though I do with it were a bit shorter.

9.0/10, really solid, fun, ambitious as hell game.

The pacing is odd and even distracting at times. Time jumps aren’t always agreeable. But, in the end, it all comes together in a rather coherent manner. With new environments, new dynamics and new characters The Last of Us: Part II strives for a world which is more ambitious, relentless and immersive. This admirable effort (or, rather, the ideal) works to a large extent -though I'd wished some things would’ve not gone unexplored. The game mechanics, gameplay, atmosphere, graphics: not much to say on these areas other than perfect.

I might have a soft spot to lean more on the weaknesses in comparison to the game’s strengths (which is a lot). However, there is no doubt that The Last of Us: Part II is a rare gem. Don’t look at the abnormally bad reviews and scores. This is GOTY material right here. Taking only half a point off on account of the story, I am giving it a solid 9.5.

As with all games I only review once I’ve completed and I’ve had time to reflect on the experience. I finished TLOU2 last night after 30 hours and WOW Naughty Dog, what an achievement.

On the gameplay front, as you’d expect it’s quite similar to the original game. You move from area to area avoiding or getting into conflict with the infected or human enemies. It’s down to you how you wish to proceed, stealth or guns blazing. But stealth is usually the preferred option to at least thin the number of enemies before you open fire. Resources are scarce so it’s not like you ever have lots of ammo to go all Rambo like. However, the gameplay mechanics are without doubt a step up from the original. Everything feels much more dynamic. Everything flows really well. It might sound strange to say but when you are running in this game you really feel like you are running for your life. Run, crawl under a desk, take cover behind a concrete pillar, flank your enemy, and dispatch! It’s all very seamless and hangs together beautifully. But that is not as easy as it sounds, as the human enemy AI is quite clever. They WILL flank you if you stay in one place for more than 30 seconds or so. The attention to detail is honestly amazing, probably the best I’ve ever seen. You can really see the care and effort that has gone into this game. Shoot someone in the head and they will go down as you’d expect and the blood spatter pattern would be as you’d expect.

Graphically there is not much to say here other than as you’d expect from a Naughty Dog game it’s up there with the very best, quite possibly the very best. It’s just a beautiful game. The sound design is phenomenal too. Guns sound and feel deadly when fired, and the in game music is top class. When graphics and sound this good are combined what you end up with is some of the best atmosphere setting in a game ever. One of my personal favourite sections was playing through the pitch black hospital at ‘ground zero’, I felt terrified the whole time. It was on par with how well the Resident Evil 2 remake sets the atmosphere. Bear in mind TLOU2 is not actually a survival horror game, yet it can compete with dedicated survival horror games due to its amazing ability to set atmosphere.

Contrary to many (incorrect) beliefs, the game is NOT pushing an agenda. It’s simply a story about revenge and the lengths we as humans are willing to go to get it. It’s a story about flipping perspectives and giving the player the opportunity to see both sides of the coin. In doing that you as the player actually bond with characters on both sides of the argument. And this is why it is so clever – because you bond with both Ellie and Abby, you become totally conflicted about the actions both of them take for each of their causes. The story is in my opinion brilliant. It could have been another jaunt through the world of the infected with Ellie and Joel but Naughty Dog made some bold decisions and chose to do something completely different – and it paid off. In parts it’s truly shocking, but I like that it shocked me. I had my hand over my mouth on many occasions – I can’t remember a game that made me react like that before.

I really only had ONE issue with the game, and that is sometimes the pace can be slow somewhat due to the large areas you spend time looting (although this isn’t actually forced and entirely down to you if you want to do it or not). However, the game would suck me back in again quickly with a defining story moment.

I can’t wait to fire up New Game+ on Hard+ mode just to experience this masterpiece again, but I’m going to put it down for now and give myself time to recover from being emotionally taxed for 30 hours. There wasn’t a single night I didn’t play this game since its release on 28th June. I’m truly exhausted.

I’ll end by saying this is one of the best video games ever made. If you are at all interested in video games this is a must play, no doubt. Masterpiece

I played on the second hardest difficulty and really enjoyed it. I didn't use the listen mechanic at any point (as a personal challenged) and I didn't feel like I needed it. The sound design was so good that you could generally get a feel for where the enemies were and it increased the my enjoyment of each encounter - making things more tense. I also really enjoyed the story. The story isn't fan service - this game is clearly not about making people feel good. It is a thoughtful game that challenges you and your actions and this is something I enjoyed. Going into this game - I knew it would make me uncomfortable just like lots of top-tier art. To me, this is a strength of the game rather than a weakness. After loving the first game, I didn't feel like I needed another instalment. Even with that mindset, TLOU II surpassed my expectations in every way and left me extremely glad for having the experience. There is nothing else like it and I highly recommend it to any that wants to see the potential of video games realised in 2020. Expand

This game is near perfect in every way. Don't listen to the haters. Most of them lack the emotional and/or intellectual depth to fully understand the game. The people I know personally who were disappointed by the story or the structure rate it 7 or 8 out of 10. This is not a 1-star game by any measure.

Throughout this work of technical brilliance, I continued to feel the story and themes were lost through illogical motivation and lack of focus. Once the ending beat hit, however, all of the threads tied together and dropped an emotional boulder on me. Trust in The Last of Us II until its conclusion. The reward awaits, and the payoff is like none other. Masterpiece.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Finished it, it's not a perfect game, I'm honestly not sure I'd give it a 10/10, but the incels are busy downvoting this game so here goes.

It's a good game, it doesn't feel as impactful as the first game, but it's still great.

    - Graphics -
The graphics are, as expected really good, among the very best I've seen in any game, what really stands out though is the animation, everything looks natural and lifelike, I felt completely immersed as I was playing, as there was very few things to remind you that you were playing a game.

    - Story -
The story is probably where I'm a little split, it's a perfectly good story told competently, and all the complaints about bad writing followed up with no examples, ring incredibly dishonest to me.

There were irks though, like Abby's father, he didn't need to be Mr. perfect, for me to sympathize with Abby, so while I understand the need to introduce him, it was laid on a little thick imo. I actually liked the doctor you only hear from in the first game, that let out the monkeys and gets bit as a result, well meaning but probably not the smartest.
There were other minor stuff, but overall, it made good sense and all the characters seemed real and relatable.
The overall story was fine, it never did have the same gut-punch effect of the first game, but there are some really nice details, like the book on Joels counter, that'll only make sense when you learn what Joel did for Ellie, for her birthday.

    - Gameplay -
Despite it technically just being a third person shooter, it played nicely, and feels like it's own game. I really liked the AI, they're not all knowing, but they'll still flank you or sneak up on you given the chance, and you will actually notice differences in the AI wether they are Seraphites, or WLF, a really nice touch imo.
It keeps the gameplay from the first game, in the sense that aiming isn't the easiest, your character will sway a lot, at least early on before you get upgrades, and ammo is scarce, but you somehow never completely run out, no different from the previous.

    - Sound/Music -
Just great stuff, sounds are as good as you'd expect at this point. Music, it's really good, but imo not the kind you go listen to after playing the game, it's very subtle, and I find myself recognizing it if it plays somewhere.

I'm glad they didn't pander to people who liked Joel and Ellie, I mean we all liked them as characters, but fortunately that first game is still available, and still plays nicely if that's all you want. If you want a new story with incredible detail, and good characters, I'd recommend this game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. As a fan of TLOU1 I came into this game apprehensive. I stayed away from leaks and spoilers but I had a feeling that something big was going to happen. And BAM it did, death of a main character from the first game, it shoot me. The idea of a revenge story was interesting to me. It was mentally painful at times to play, to deal with my grief and the grief of the characters in game but I stuck it out and became fascinated by the story and the characters. Ellie and Dina have amazing chemistry and their love shows throughout. But Ellie's need for revenge outweighs everything else to the point of obsession. It's pretty brutal.

There is a point where the game switches gears and you all of a sudden play as the character that killed the main protagonist from the first game and for me I was SO MAD at that.. for about 30 minutes. Then when my anger waned and I was able to get back to the game I started to enjoy playing as her and as her history and motives are shown I started to grow to care for her as well.

You think the game is ending but it isn't there's actually a few more hours and then the real end is really emotionally heavy. I left the game unhappy, not with the game just with everything, I was emotionally exhausted. It took me a day to really work through my feelings and then I understood how amazing the game was. No other game has ever made me actually think about consequences for actions and the emotional toll of doing things like this game did. It isn't something I would play to be happy but it's something I will play again just to get that feeling back, to understand each character further, to enjoy a piece of media that makes me FEEL something viscerally.

Mechanically, the gameplay is a huge step up from the first game, the movement is fluid, you can now prone, and the dodge is fantastic. the crafting goes further and you have many more skills you can access in your skill trees. Even if you didn't like the story I can't see how you could give this game a lesser rating, just based off of how smooth the gameplay is.

I'd be hard pressed to think of a game featuring a story as engaging and masterfully told. Harsh but not dark, as there is beauty throughout the game, in how the protagonists care about their friends, interact with each other, relive fond memories and reflect on themselves when they are not busy dispatching their ennemies.

The Last of Us Part II is also technically flawless, with beautiful exterior environments and top notch exploration and combat.

But this game really shines in depicting characters with real depth and complexity. And, oh boy, it really succeeds in making the case that there are two sides to a story.

No game is perfect, but this one arguably comes darn close. I also give it a 10 to counteract the biggots who chose to bomb this game, either because they can't stomach how the plot unfolds or because they have issues with its inclusive storyline.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. So to start, I haven't left a review on Metacritic for quite sometime but I feel that I NEED to. The people who are giving this game a low score and playing the beginning and not finishing need to stop because if they did, they wouldn't have the audacity to give this game a low score. I will explain why even small parts earn the right to "adding points" even if you rated the game a 0.

How in the world could this game ever score anything lower than a 9? Watching the beginning unfold had to be one of the hardest things to witness in my 25 years gaming. The death of Joel makes you want to jump through your screen and choke the life from Abby. With each blow that Abby hits Joel with; then Ellie screaming "please stop hitting him" makes your emotions fly through the roof. Any game that can bring tears to your eyes, even if you hate whats happening, deserves 3 points out of 10. A game made you feel a certain way just by playing it and that says a lot about the writers because emotions are a natural function of everything and are hard to bring out.

Fast forward to Ellie trying to find Abby and seek revenge.....why did Abby do all of this? This of course is a question that we ask ourselves. Ellie would do anything to kill Abby and anyone who gets in her way. But at what cost?

You watch yourself (Player) kill your way through person after person(and dogs) not realizing that everything you are doing is going to hurt once you meet them as Abby and who they are. Playing with the dogs and meeting the characters as Abby in some parts knowing that a couple hours ago you just killed them brutally with Ellie makes you feel a certain way again. Once again emotions take over. To not realize it until the game throws it back in your face is another level of playing field when it comes to developing and writing a story. Earns another 3 points. (I bet more than half the reviews didn't even make it to the Abby parts *sigh*)

Fast forward again. THEN the developers show how Abby goes from this selfish punk to a Joel like role towards Liv and changes her point of view in many aspects of her own life. Would she kill anyone to save Liv?... Would feeling this way now possibly stop her from killing Joel? Seeing his side of the story could of changed her decisions in the past. Loving Ellie was more than "saving the world to Joel" Having only Liv left in Abby's life at this point, would she kill the random doctor trying to take that away from her? These a more questions you ask yourself and how Naughty Dog depicts so frickin well.

There is so many things that happen that there is too much to write down here. I will say that in the end you see what Ellie truly lost and what Abby learned with the knowledge she gained through her arrogant and ignorant reasons. Loss sucks any way you put it but life does go on and its terrible to see that both Ellie and Abby have made some terrible decisions to only realize them in the games closing.

I PROMISE you that if you actually finish this game and see it through, you will not be disappointed. The gameplay, the shear aggressiveness of each battle, the story that will blow you mind right down to the last second and the pure emotionally ride you take playing this game; earns even more points so if you hated this game for you own reasons, these reasons suggest a score of at least 7+ Just give it the chance to open itself up to you as you progress and see what the true story is.

This game deserves every point, star, rating, etc. that exists not because it was just a great game; that if you finished it, you know that as a human being; a gamer; nothing quite like the full story of The Last of Us will never leave us emotionally. When someone brings up this game to you in your life, you will always FEEL a certain way about what went down and how you felt towards it. You will always feel inclined to "put in your two cents" and why do you ask? Because even if you rated it low or had a gripe about this, that or the other, Joel's death, what Ellie felt she needed to do and Abby getting revenge for her father were part of an elaborate plan to show you, as the player, that emotions fuel everything we do in life.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A split narrative game that is very polarizing, hence the positive and negative responses without much middle-ground. It forces you to play and experience two sides of a conflict. Empathy is the name of the game. People will complain about having to play half the game as Abby or that Joel was murdered too soon. But the story plays out quite masterfully. It's a story about survival and forgiveness that masquerades as a revenge story, but if you look deeper, isn't. Every single character is flawed in some ways, some more deeply than others. The writers want you to think about what it means to be a hero or villain because it's all just perspective in TLOU. That said, all of the characters are memorable. I haven't come out of a game being able to list all the major or even semi-important characters by name since the Witcher 3. The actual gameplay is about what you would expect from a sequel to the first game. Decent gunplay, melee combat, lots of QTEs, no player driven choices other than when/how to explore some of the map. It's not a game for everyone, I can understand some of the criticism. Not the homophobic comments, or "Abby is a muscular woman and I can't get over it" comments, or that Joel is actually some noble hero that didn't in any way deserve to die comments. I see a lot of those. But I encourage those that gave up on it early, or only heard bad things about it second-hand, to give it another chance because the build-up is great and the most intense sequences in the later part of the game are going to stick with me for quite some time. And please pay no attention to the trolls, which not only didn't play but can also not deal with feelings. They refuse to see anything past their preconceived notion that the game is bad because the one thing they didn't want to happen, happens. If the plot hadn't been leaked and they got to experience the game instead of reading it out of a **** script and watched a few scenes without context, maybe they would feel the gut-wrenching emotions this game provides. It's through actually playing the mission parts and being in danger and listening to seemingly unimportant dialogue that you get to like the characters and, even if you don't, there's no way empathy doesn't tell you EVERY story has two sides and humans aren't 100% good or bad. Joel was always going to be a villain in someone's eyes, we were just endeared to him first. This is not about taking sides, it's about understanding that nobody is a hero in a time of desperate need and every action you take has consequences that might shape your future and your relationship with those who love you. Don't listen to the haters, they're shallow minded.
Just because you didn't want it to start or end the way that you wanted it too and in my case I would describe as an open book. The gameplay and visuals are phenomenal and will go down as one of the best games ever made.

It breaks my heart to see so many bad reviews but people have their opinion. I adore the game. It's a sad story where the "villain's" motivations are as important and understandable as the hero's. It's not fun to see where Ellie and Abby end up but the treatment of the story is very admirable because it's ballsy.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Don't understand what all the hate is about. Are people just pissed because of Joel getting killed? It was sad, but it makes the story of revenge more personal for the player. It wouldn't have been as effective if they killed off a character the players weren't attached to. Expand

The game is lots fun to play, with very good story, no idea why people are mad about it. If they make another one cant wait for it.

I do think that game does not deserve this score, that it has. 90% of people never started the game. I'm playing the game, I'm enjoying it. It is not a masterpiece imo, but it is not 4.8

Amazing game. The world building, state of the art presentation is something that haven’t been seen in video games before. But what you take away from this game is the story. It leaves space for interpretation and and it makes video games evolve and mature. This is something no other medium could do and I’m so happy Naughty Dog have the capacity and resources to do it.

I have only ever written one review on this site, and that was in 2013 when the credits rolled on The Last of Us. Yet here I am, writing my second ever review and it's just to say one thing... this sequel topped it. It's a game that will stay with me for the rest of my life. The emotional journey only works when played through in its entirety. Just like with the original, this is a game that needs to be played start to finish for it to work as well as it does. I find it sad some people are so hard set against opening themselves to experiencing this game as it was intended. I admit there were points in my own play-through where I was telling myself there's no way they can pull off what I think they are trying to accomplish.

    I was so wrong.

An absolute masterclass in storytelling through gameplay and animation. Only Sony first party studios know how to produce such brilliant content. I simply cannot comprehend giving this a score lower than a 9 for possibly lack of difficulty. The environments are bigger this time around offering much more area to explore and new and exciting ways to handle combat encounters. Fantastic game. Ignore the 0’s, many come from people who haven’t even played the game. Incredible animations and gameplay, great graphics. The world is beautiful and immersive and I had a great time exploring it. Story can be divisive and controversial, but I think as a whole the game is great.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
