One of the best games that ever created. The gameplay is just great and addictive. I loved the story and I think that’s better than the first one. The graphics are arguably the best that we’ve ever seen on PS4 and the sound’s amazing. Also Gustavo Santaolalla and MAC Quayle made a magnificent soundtrack that fits perfectly well in the game.

Best game I ever played. Every little detail in this game is studied. You will live the entire story from the start to the end with no empty moments and never boring; and it’s a story 3 times longer than part 1.

The gameplay style is like the first TLoS, with some good improvements, more fluid and funny to play. I read many bad ratings and 99% of them are made for very stupid things

I read many bad ratings and 99% of them are made for very stupid things (ohhh she’s kissing another girllll!! Smoking weedddd!) or made by people that don’t understand the story (or they played it in a very superficial way). Developers developed people, not characters in this game.

While playing this game, you have to thing about the actions You do 1000 times. Not because your actions can change the events in the game (the story is independent and has only one end) but because your action will have consequences of yourself! And it’s the first game that makes me feel that (semi spoiler: I’m sorry Bear)

Things that i don’t like much in this game:
    - like previous chapter you can’t return in the previous area.
    - skill tree very basic, it could be improved a lot
    - Italian localization of scars (why hyenas?!)

So, for me it’s a 9.5/10 this game.

The new characters are likeable, the ending is beautiful, playing as Abby is a neat twist on the perspective, I could go on and on. This is a masterpiece. The whole way through I was enthralled in this world and the gameplay was intuitive and engaging. I kept getting amazed and wanted to continue seeing where this game led. This revenge tale I feel is important as Ellie has taken on a lot of Joel’s traits and with how the game proceeds you see that she’s slowly becoming more comfortable with it, even going so far as to torture. At the same time though we see Ellie get affected by these actions and due to Ellie allowing herself to get consumed by this need for vengeance, she lost everything. I won’t lie I was sad with the ending but I felt it was a bold and important for the story. Ellie wasn’t a good person throughout the game, just as Joel wasn’t and I’m happy we got to finally play this full game. Expand

The story worked and was emotionally charged by his demise and continued the theme of Ellie and Joel's relationship beautifully. Abby was interesting and a great "antagonist". Beautifully crafted and told story that felt grounded and visceral. The mise-en-scene and the storytelling generally were nothing short of beautiful.
Gameplay was solid and scenarios were great but nearly repetitive.

The story made me hate a character and empathize with her within a few hours. I even grew to love her in the end. I still talk with my friends about it, and we share teories and cry together. This game, man! If a game chalenges me that much. Puitting me in a place where there's no heroes in the story. I would feel invaded, but at the same time, impressed. **** good game. Druckman and Gross, congratulations. I wish i was just a tird of what you two are. Congratulations. Also, this game made me care about Joel more than the first one. I put myself in Ellie's shoes. I'm washed out and drained of emotion after finishing this ultra marathon of a game.
Not used to writing reviews and as someone who doesn't describe themselves as a 'gamer', I don't have the depth of knowledge to compare the play with other games. I played the first Last of Us after watching a 'best of the year' round up on TV some years ago and liked its central premise. I loved that game, and although delighted that a Part 2 would come out, I was full of trepidation before starting - what if they ruined it? I somehow managed to miss all the spoilers too - hid from the Internet for weeks.
The game can feel like a grind at times - encounter after encounter that doesn't seem to progress the story, and like the first game, the sidekicks still seem to get in the way when bring stealthy.
That aside, the game mechanics were reassuringly solid, with some new melee additions.
I also enjoyed the various and numerous nods to the first game - avoiding the sniper, sneaking up on Cannibal David (with a twist), and a horrible revisit of the bloater in the hotel basement (not a bloater, and it was a hospital) that left my heart pounding.
For me, it's all about the story. I've heard that this game is described as a story of hate - I don't agree, it's of redemption and forgiveness (or lack of).
No spoilers from me, but what I thought was the main part of the game, turned out to be just halfway.
For what it's worth, I always agreed with Joel's decision - love can only be directed at a person, never a notion of a group (i.e. mankind). It was heart-breaking to see the fallout of his decision - for everyone concerned.
The final encounter between the protagonists was suitably hollow - if it was a movie you wouldn't be leaving the cinema with a spring in your step, but I would have liked to see a final dialogue between them - an acknowledgement of what it cost both of them. Like Joel, these characters don't represent good and evil, they are all flawed but at least their characters are malleable - we see the change in their perspective.
I'll be thinking about this game for many days to come, playing the morality out in my head. Thank you Naughty Dog!

Just considering the graphics, gameplay, soundtrack and motion capture this game is no way getting less than 8/10.

About the story.. What did you expect? That Joel would have continued to live like nothing had happened in Salt Lake? One day or another someone would had shown up seeking for revenge. “But Joel was too skilled and smart, he would have trusted Abby!1!” She is the age on Ellie and he saved her ass from being eaten by the infects, in the middle of a blizzard. Falling in an ambush was the last of his thoughts. Then he realized. It was too late. He knew that the moment had finally come. Do you think that I enjoyed this choice? Of course not, goddammit! It broke my heart. But his death had a sense in the context of the story. It wasn’t random like getting bitten by a clicker of slipping and falling from a cliff. The way he was killed... Only a sadist would have done something like that. Or someone who has been waiting for that moment for a long time. You live the scene with the eyes of Ellie, feel her emotions, feel the need of revenge flowing in your veins.

The game goes on and Ellie finds Nora. She’s trapped in an angle, unable to fight, unable to betray her friend. And our protagonist murders her. Was it necessary? What was going on in Ellie’s mind? She’s shocked, her hands shaking. That didn’t make her feel better.

The cycle continues and she gets to Owen and Mel. I don’t think that in this case Ellie would have killed them but Owen tries to counter attack (I mean, he had a gun pointed at him, that’s reasonable) and in self defense she kills them both. Mel was pregnant though. That was really **** up, the image of Dina bumps in front of Ellie’s eyes. She’s getting nauseous, unable to recognize herself no more. What goes around, comes around and Abby finds her way to the theatre. Boom, Jesse is gone, Tommy is about to make his brother’s end and you as the player are leaning toward the screen with the heart stomping in your chest. All the tension that had built up in the last hours is getting to the apex.

And then Mr. Druckmann press the rewind button. You are now playing as Abby. What?! I’m not going to play in the role of my main enemy! First thing first I’ll make her die a lot of times. The story continues, you discover that she was the daughter of the surgeon that years before was about to operate Ellie, before getting killed by Joel. You understand her feelings, her strengths and fears. You follow the path of blood that Ellie made, this time from a different position. All leads to the sequence in the theatre. This time YOU are the one pointing a gun to Ellie. I found it difficult to hit her, at that point I just wanted the cycle of violence to stop. Abby is physically superior but for the second time (the first was in the mountain shelter) she lets Ellie go.

This time Mr. Druckmann hits the fast forward button and we are in an idyllic scenery. Dina, Ellie and the little JJ are living in peace, apparently far away from the atrocities of this dystopian future. But the shadow of the past is always present and gets more present with the visit of Tommy. Something inside Ellie is broken. She’s unable to remove the image of Joel from his mind. She leaves again, decided to end the story. It’s no more a matter of hatred or revenge, it is pure desperation what moves her.

We finally find Abby, almost unrecognizable. Just for a moment Ellie’s shield is lowered and compassion hits her. After all she went through how could she let her go? Pushing the feels away we are introduced to the final, desperate, fight for life. Ellie is seconds away from drowning Abby and finish it all, as the sight of Lev triggers her memory of Joel. Abby was the only thing remaining to Lev. How could she kill her?

And finally the key of all the story is revealed. A flashback from the night before Joel’s death. Everything become so clear. Ellie never went over his decision of saving her but she promises that she would have tried to forgive him. This is a story about FORGIVENESS, not a story about REVENGE! Ellie was mad because Abby prevented her to forgive Joel.

Ellie lost everything. She has lost Dina, Tommy, and living in Jackson. Even being able to play the guitar, the only thing remaining from Joel. She’s empty, and emptiness is what you should feel as the credits are rolling. It took me several days to metabolize the complexity of the story, to understand what was moving each character. There’s no hero in this story, nor villain. There are human beings who make errors just like the real world. I dare you to find another videogame that encompasses these concepts and makes you feel like The Last of Us Part II does. Hats off to Neil and all the ND team, Ashley, Troy, Laura, Gustavo, everyone of them. You made something aere perennius.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. What a brutal and dark game. I think it would be really difficult to make a revenge movie or game that was as ambitious as this was. They totally nailed it for me. I went from loving certain characters to hating them as well as hating some to loving them, in general I could just emphasis with how hard their lives had become. It was an emotional ride that often felt overwhelming but I’m so so happy I played it. Firstly, killing Joel was obviously something they put a lot of time and thought into and it gave us a base to explore stuff that’s definitely never been looked at in this way before. Revenge led everyone in a bad situation and we see how bad it is for everyone in the life’s of those that go after it.

The game looks so brilliant and real. The music and sound design makes you feel scared, sad and lonely in an insanely beautiful way. The places you go are unique and ridiculously detailed. The acting and the characters all do such an amazing job that now that I’m done with the game I miss them. The gameplay is very similar to the first game but has been tweaked to feel more smooth and impactful than the previous game. I like that Abby, Ellie and Joel all play differently and have different skills. The ending is depressing and dark but it fits the tone of the game perfectly. We don’t always get what we want and sometimes we miss opportunities when we are blinded by rage or something that’s become an obsession. This dark story telling mixed with social issues like the LGBTQ+ issues and identity issues were done in a cool way that didn’t feel like pandering.

This game is super ambitious piece of art that has to be played to the very end to get the full scope of its gritty beauty and deep emotional message that are difficult to process for me even now. Thank you Naughty Dog for another awesome experience.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. People who play Souls-Borne games are used to getting the middle finger and a "GiT GuD" when it comes to a difficulty setting. It's something of a hot topic recently (surprisingly) and it's something that people who were unable to overcome simply didn't like about the games. That being said those games are better for it and arguably could be ruined if ever implemented. TLOU2 another one of those games. There is a difficulty setting for game-play but there are no difficulty settings in this game or in real life for processing mental and emotional trauma. It seems like the majority of these reviews are from people having trouble at the latter. This is strange though because games like Hellblade and Celeste have done well on here.

Grief is a potent emotion that I would never wish on anyone. If not under control it will ravage someone, sometimes completely changing the person you thought you knew. This is something that is as hard to watch in real life as it is in this game. We saw what it turned Joel into in the first game but we never saw how. In movies you just have to watch as someone goes through this; in video-games you're in the drivers seat and you are far more exposed. This is where Naughty Dog shines and they do an immaculate job across the board. I felt the death of Joel hard, I felt Ellie's grief, I even felt Abby's grief but I didn't think I would be able to forgive her. There is one moment at the end of the game that is so easy to miss but hits so hard. As Ellie holds Abby's head under water trying to drown her she has a brief but powerful flashback. In this 2 second flashback Ellie remembers the very moment she was ready to forgive the only person besides Abby that took everything away from her. It's after this moment that Ellie realizes the is done and lets Abby go. Its not a happy ending and it was not something I would call fun, but rather fulfilling. TLOU starts as a story about curing all the zombies but changes at the very end with Joel murdering everyone in the hospital and ruining the chance of a cure. TLOU2 starts as a cliche murder revenge plot but ends up with Ellie ultimately letting everything go. In hindsight this is something we could have expected.

This is a must play game for me across the board with one caveat. Not everyone can handle losing a loved one, they may even play video-games to avoid this. If that is the case this game may not be for you. It doesn't make sense to buy a game after seeing the leaks and knowing you're not going to like it. Its the equivalent of going to a restaurant and ordering a salad even though you wanted a steak and writing a bad yelp review. It would seem there are a lot of Karens playing video-games nowadays.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Just to say the first game is one of my all time favorites. I love Joel, Ellie, the world, the story, everything!!

Currently on my second play-through (for all the collectables), but I'm noticing just how in depth the mini conversations are between characters while you explore the world. It's incredible the detail of the story. Dina telling Ellie about her plans to fix up a farm and this is just both heart warning and breaking when you know what's to come. (I wish I had more patrol missions with Dina and Ellie)

I'll be honest when I completed the game, I was in a weird state and I needed a day or so to contemplate what just happened. I played the island section till the end in one go. A LOT happens. A lot of stuff that as a player you don't want your character to do.

At first I wished I stopped at the Farm, but then Ellie would've been tormented forever and that was worse than what she eventually had to do.

Playing as Abby was a bit of a surprise and I wasn't too thrilled with playing another three days as her, but I definitely softened up to her. (Which is crazy to say, because of what she did, but how can you blame her.) Her and Lev are a fun duo.

Overall I give this game a 10, because I have never experienced anything like it before and it didn't disappoint.

I went into it only watching some of the trailers, and was able to avoid all of the spoilers, so my only bias was the hype of loving the first game. Don’t listen to the haters, this game is amazing.

Gameplay has been improved, but not modified. If you liked the gameplay of the first, you’ll love the gameplay of the second. The combat is more immersive and super fluid. The environments made the combat amazing.

The story was awesome. I never felt more emotionally invested in characters than with this game. I will admit, I did not like playing Abby at first and couldn’t wait to get back to playing Ellie. They switched the POV at such a cliffhanger! However, it halfway through playing Abby I started to like her character, and by the end I really didn’t want anything bad to happen to her. It was gut-wrenching to fight Ellie. I didn’t want anything to happen to either one.

If you liked the first one, give this a chance. No guarantees you’ll like it, but I absolutely loved it.

The Last of Us 2 is a masterpiece of a game. While playing it, I felt tension, elation, love, hate, regret, nervousness, loss, and relief - to name a few of the emotions this game brings about.

The message of the game doesn't lie in the ending, which appears to have pissed other reviewers off. It lies very much in the journey (i know, total cliche, but its true). Specifically it lies within the parallels between Ellie and Abby. Both characters have been/are on quests for revenge, and those quests eat them up in different ways unique to that character. How much of your humanity are you willing to give up for your revenge? How much of your life will it consume? How much of yourself can you get back afterwards?

The main message I took from the game in the end related to how you view your enemies. It's easy to paint someone as the villain in your own story, but if you look at things from their point of view, all they are is another person. Another human being trying to survive.

Abby isnt the devil she appears to be at the start. She isnt some kind of saint. She's a deeply flawed person just trying to get by in a post apocalyptic world. Ellie is just the same.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expand

It is very clearly shown around critics that people didn't like the idea of Joel dieing in this game. But in my opinion it was a reasonable thing to do, every other naughty dog game never killed of its protagonist and the protagonist friends/ allies but the killing of joel gave the game the impact it needed if for example they killed Dina like everyone thought they did (this is because of the trailers) the game wouldn't be as intresting and worthwhile to go through l. This also shows hoe Ellie lobes and cares for Joel if she didn't care about him she wouldn't of done everything she did to get revenge on Abby
Talking about Abby shes the other problem that people disliled about the game, yes i felt the same way when i had to spwmd about 1 hoirs of gameplau with her but it showed me her side of the stoey and how she feels and desires as a human. Overall the games ending is very hard to understand fully but it was the right choice to not kill of Abby and Lev. 10/10

And fortunately for me -- I really love the game as much as the first one. It's painfully beautiful, realistic and "human". ND puts in lots of small details throughout the game to explain many things that happened, that's why you have to play it for yourself and do your best to look past the surface and connect the dots. But I can also understand why some people dislike the game. It's like "Joker" movie (not the best comparison but yea..) -- some people love it some hate it some think it's overrated some thinks it's way too detached from original franchise & wouldn't it be better if they make it as brand new standalone piece etc etc etc. No matter what, TLOU2 is a game that has a great impact in the gaming community and it's here to stay. I've never written a review in the past, but I feel obligated to land my two cents after witnessing the completely unreasonable review-bombing of the game.

    Gameplay
It's more or less the same gameplay as in the first game, only refined. It's simple, very fluent, easy to learn yet appropriately hard to fully master. While simple in form, the level design and combat mechanics also give much lenience in terms of "choosing your way". You'll always be having several options in how you deal with a scene or a challenge, be it through brute force, stealth, escape or a fine mix. This perspective on the gameplay is of course subjective, and as with the first game many will likely find the game's combat mechanics a little too simple. It is also worth noting how the gameplay translates very well into almost every cutscene, leaving the player with a stunning cinematic experience.

    Graphics
There's not much to be said in regard to the graphics. A game can't possibly become any better than this on the PS4. The world is masterfully crafted, runs surprisingly smoothly and leaves the players to discover and take in the scenery through very flexible camera controls. The character animation is also stunning, and even the faces of your enemies are carefully put together to portray brutal emotions in face of death. Hands down the most beautiful game I have experienced, and one that will forever represent the peak of PS4's capacity.

    Story
The story is the game's most contested aspect, and the reason for that is in my opinion rather clear cut: the game really demands a lot of its player. I'm convinced one needs to approach this game with an open mind to be struck and absorbed by the story that is served. For it is served, just as in the first game. Aside from choosing one's way to go about or around the many combat encounters, there's no true player agency to speak of. That means that one must be open to the direction the story invites to, or risk playing the game in opposition to its very premise. If you aren't able to alter and adjust your perspective in accordance with the shifts of the story, you'll likely find yourself judging the game hollow and unattuned. Is that a fault of the game however? I argue that it is not, for it clearly is an intended challenge to be overcome by the player.

Naughty Dog asks of the player to step into the the others' shoes. Without being open to this the game is bound to fall short, and for a game studio to willingly accept that is puzzling to me. It really rises the bar of what a game can be. It stands as a meta-challenge beyond anything gaming has provided in the past. The Last of Us Part II goes beyond puzzles, levels and combat encounters to challenge its players - it aims at mind and soul, and bids you to dive into uncomfortable emotional depths in a way never before explored. It will not be everyone's cup of tea, and many will not accept the challenge that is invited to, but those who do will be left puzzled and with lasting impressions. The music and soundwork helps elevate the story's impacts and the world itself in a beautiful, if not perfect way.

In the end I loved it, and am still feeling it.

    Пронзитeльно смотря моими жe глaзaми.
В дурaцких колпaкaх, чтоб зло рaсхохотaлось.
Нaчнёт ржaвeть в крови жeлeзо кулaков.
Нa прочность пробуя грaнитных лиц упрямствa.
    И нeнaвисти воцaрится пьянство.
И глядя нa того, кто пaдaл в пустоту.
    Зaбвeния больного порaжeния.
Увижу лишь сeбя, лeжaщим нa полу.

I can´t believe the campaign of hate surrounding this game. People should be ashamed of their idiotic attitude towards all the people involved in the making of the game. It seems pretty obvious that those people didn´t even play the game and are just haters. The game is an awesome example of going forward in all aspects, and video games are nos exempt of that. It seems pretty obvious that those people didn´t even play the game and are just haters. The game is an awesome example of going forward in all aspects, and video games are nos exempt of that. The game itself is awesome story-wise, and from a narrative point of view, character development is astonishing, and it gets under your skin pretty easy. I loved every aspect of it, it´s a technical marvel and all developers should look at naughty dog work as an example to follow. Right from the very start it feels like a masterpiece, one of a kind, and it touches very sensitive points of being human, so it transcends as more than a game. I take my hat and bow to Naughty Dog for the monumental work of doing such an incredible piece of digital art, just keep up with the good work guys. Expand

Took 1 week to finish the game, and i let it sink for a week before doing this. The game is a solid 8,5 but i gave it a 10 to equalize a bit the rating, as many of the first 0 ratings were given minutes/hours after the release, probably by people that hasnt played it. great game, nota better than the first one. a must play, but wait for it to have a 20/30usd price

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
