Everyone who knows about scripts, knows now that what happened was the only option, any other path would be simple, predictable and in a "bad" argumental way, but sadly satisfying to the public. It's just... A misunderstood story

It made me love and hate the characters in a way I never knew I would. Definitely a must play and an awesome closing to PlayStation 4's life. Kudos to Naughty Dog and PlayStation WWS. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Finally finished this game and I must say that this is one of the best game I've ever played. The game is so dark and brutal which is why this is one of my favorite game now. It's sad to see so many 1 ratings and most of these people have problems with how a character look physically and that their favorite character Joel dies. I loved Joel, he was my favorite character too but characters die that's how some stories are written and that's what make a story good and I think writers made the right decision to kill Joel the way it happened. Abby's character had great character development. Seriously can't understand people giving this 1 rating. This is a story about revenge and forgiveness, maybe put aside your personal problems with how a character look and how they should look or character orientation and maybe then you'll see how great the storytelling is and the message behind the story.
The gameplay is satisfying and graphics were unbelievable. The level of detail in every single scene is on the next level. I just stared at the environment in every scene I entered. I think this is the best post apocalyptic world I have ever seen, better than the zombie movies.

Beaten it on grounded countless times and still play it from time to time. The story touched my heart and moved my unlike any medium in my life. Joel and Ellie were one of the best game duos I've had the pleasure of experiencing. The brutality and realness of the world was striking and something that stayed with you. The game's story was simple but the way it drove character development was something I've yet to see in a video-game. The characters were stellar and were the highlight of the game. The game-play felt raw and somewhat clunky but still really friggin fun and challenging. Needless to say I was waiting for Part II with as much excitement as I could have. Did it deliver? Well sadly no. What happened with Part II's story-telling feels like a theme brought to life no matter the cost, bending the characters to do its biding, The game relies on suspension of disbelief to the point you stop bothering to think anymore because the more you do, the more of a headache you get. This is a game that consistently and relentlessly punishes you for the actions you are forced to commit. So after hours of being beaten with a hammer to the head on how bad you should feel, you just stop caring anymore. The dissonance is so potent in this game that you feel the game writer's strings trying to manipulate you into feeling what the want. And do you? Well no, it does the opposite as it feels artificial and forced, and so doesn't deliver it's message. Don't get me started on the false advertising and trying to market this game as a Joel and Ellie game. You guys didn't have the guts to show it for what it was but you wanted to milk that dough, didn't you? Here's a tip. If something is not in your game, don't show it, will ya? It's really odd to me how one makes a game that is supposed to consciously divide the fan-base and then acts surprised when it happens. Well **** what did you guys expect? Now let me address the elephant in the room. Joel's death. Some people will say: 'ha, you're obviously just mad about it, get over it sucker and enjoy the game'. The decision was stupid because such a pivotal moment should have been constructed better. It betrays the intelligence of Tommy and Joel, and immediately throws Abby under the bus in terms of the player empathizing with her. I understand her motivations, but I never cared for her. If the game started with her build her up as someone who's got a goal I can sympathize with and then made her clash with the Jackson team, then that would be some good drama. That would have made me torn between the characters. Instead I got to walk around across Seattle doing pointless side-quest detours filled with exposition. Really boring stuff. Anyway game-play wise it's pretty good, you can see the improvements although I've had more bugs and glitches in Part II than Part I. The game also looks beautifully and the setpieces and level design is stellar. If all I cared for was that though, I would have gotten one of them Call Of Duty games or something and called it a day. It all comes down to the story man. And except for a couple of Ellie and Joel related flashbacks the story doesn't move me one bit. Expand

First of all, i want to say that The Last of Us is for me the best game i’ve ever played, i’ve never been so attached for characters like i was for Joel and Ellie, and the union of their relationship, the story, and the soundtrack, is just perfect for me, it’s the first game which made me cry. And i also want to say that i first played this game this year, 2 weeks before Part II... yeah,First of all, i want to say that The Last of Us is for me the best game i’ve ever played, i’ve never been so attached for characters like i was for Joel and Ellie, and the union of their relationship, the story, and the soundtrack, is just perfect for me, it’s the first game which made me cry. And i also want to say that i first played this game this year, 2 weeks before Part II... yeah, luckily i’m not the old fan who waited 7 years. So i pre-ordered The Last of Us Part II because i really wanted to see a sequel for Joel and Ellie journey...
I finished Part II twice and got platinum trophy, i played it for 65 hours in total.
Lets get to my opinion, and some facts about the creation of the game.

Graphics: 10/10 The graphics are really good, there’s not a lot of improvements since Uncharted 4 but it’s better, one of the best looking games of the generation.

    Gameplay: 10/10
Personally, i really like The Last of Us gameplay, specially with Ellie and her switchblade, it’s basically the same gameplay of the first game but with some improvements.

    Acting and Voice Acting: 10/10
Really well done, Ashley Johnson as Ellie and Laura Bailey as Abby did a great job on their actings.

    Sound Effects: 10/10

    Soundtrack: 8/10
Gustavo Santaolalla is a brilliant composer, this game’s soundtrack is really great but it’s still not better than the original.

    Environment: 9/10
Places like Seattle and Santa Barbara are beautiful in this game, there’s a huge amount of details. And i really like the apocalyptic scenario and the nature on the city.

    Story: 5/10
The beginning with Joel was great and let me even more hyped, but then he is killed on the first 2 hours, the scene was forced, but i did cry when Ellie went to his house... So they did it, they killed the main character, but i had respect for Naughty Dog, they’ve never disappointed me before and seeing the great games they’ve done, in my mind Part II just couldn’t be bad, so after Joel’s death, i kept playing and really enjoyed, i really liked the game until Seattle Day 3 with Ellie, and her flashbacks were the best part of the game, so after this, it starts the Abby part, uninteresting and boring, i mean, her playthrough is more interesting since her story is not just a typical revenge, and also the Rat King battle is with her, but Abby and Lev is the new Joel/Ellie but poorly written and not nearly as captive, they forced me to like Abby but it’s impossible.
When i finished it i was just filled with disappointment and emptiness, after playing half game with Abby i was bored and the ending is unsatisfactory, i’ve seen a lot of sad ending in games which were really well done and made me feel, but this one is not just bad, it’s empty and pointless, the story makes you feel miserable, and forces you to like Abby and hate Joel and Ellie by their actions
The same story could be better if told in another way, and if we played just with Ellie.
And i was aware of some spoilers like Joel’s death, but it’s not because Joel will die that the game will be bad, the things gets really worse after that... Characters: 4/10
There’s a lot of uninteresting new characters in this game, they’re not as nearly well written as the Uncharted and The Last of Us characters and also the old characters are completely different in this game just to fit the script.

    Overall Score: 5/10
The game is focused on the story, which let me really disappointed and as a sequel of The Last of Us is just a forgettable story with forgettable characters, but if this game wasn’t a sequel it wouldn’t be this bad.
The game is the Neil Druckmann’s point of view of Joel’s actions, he never liked Joel because of his actions and always wanted to get this character out of the story, so if you have strong feelings about Joel and Ellie relationship don’t play the game, but if you agree with Druckmann political opinions or don’t really have feelings for Joel and Ellie, you probably will like this game.

It makes me very sad that a TLOU part two, has been stained with changing everything iconic done by the previous title.

That in no media they dared to say the name of one of the protagonists, since they knew that she would be responsible for all the aforementioned controversy. It is more than clear that those ten were not given in an honest way. A real shame, I wouldn't want that

However, the more you play, the more the game trailers turn out to be fake. In the middle of the game you get to control the character you don't even care about and actually want her to die. All the joy is gone and it's just mindless rushing to the end of the level. What's worse, it has never been stated in trailers until the plot leak. Naughty Dog edited the trailers so as they do not resemble the actual game plot at all. I’m fine with the so-called traumatic incident that happened, so my distaste isn’t due to that—it’s just that the pacing sucks and it’s all about running around scared and with the occasional stealth kills of the first game. I do like the silencer mods, but wish they lasted a few more shots. Anyway: pass on this and just buy an action or stealth game, as this one fails at both. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The original game was one of the best games I ever played, the story was great and the two main characters, Joel and Ellie, were the main reason I liked the game so much. Just completed the Part II, totally disappointed!

The story was bad, and the characters you loved in the original were ruined or destroyed. The worst part was that you were forced to play Abby who brutally murdered Joel so that you may like her and won't feel bad when Ellie let her live in their final fight.

In the original game, that damned doctor was trying to kill Ellie to make a so-called vaccine, but when the fireflies woman asked him "will you do it if she is your daughter?", he simply could not answer the question, apparently he can sacrifice other innocent people but not his daughter. So what is wrong with Joel when he killed the doctor to save Ellie who he cared about so much by the end of their journey after losing his own daughter at the beginning of the story? The game creator created a revenge theme in the sequel, it's a shame on you trying to un-justify Ellie's revenge while trying to justify the other.

This game also tried hard to tarnish the relationship between Joel and Ellie built and developed in the original game. Why did Ellie hate Joel so much in this game? Was it because Joel saved her and prevented her from being made a vaccine to save the humanity? Give me a break, that's so ridiculous! The game even let Ellie lost two fingers, so she could no longer play the guitar Joel gave to her and left it behind at the end of the game, what a joke!

The reason that for me it's a 0/10 is because the game fails at giving the only thing i cared

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm here writing down these short phrase after months of hate about this game.
From the beggining, you can't give it less then a eight: the made of this game is absolutly madness, the details are mind blowing.
I personally broke this game a lot of time, but it's me searching that kind of "fun".
I had the fortune to play this game without knowing nothing, nothin about rewiev bombing (like you that you're infuriating for my commenyt eghhhhuuuzz), haven't see any trailer; this summer when i had a break during my last job, i was wandering on amazon and i saw tlou part 2, my reaction it has been like OH **** TLOU PART 2?!!!!!
i bought it for 50 euros and waited three days.
After this days and a lot of km on bike asking my friends for a ps4, i went home and with and i started playing.
After few hours, Joel died, I always been a fun of this game, that hurted me a lot, i think i've droppped some tears.
As me, Ellie start with Dina and than Jesse her revenge trip...but what about her thoughts, her psichology, her focking diary??
the motion capture has made miracles in this game, **** every one here have ever tried to undertand humns feelings? because these are not characters, they were written to be humans...come on people, you have friends and a relationship with someone...or you're life stop in front of a monitor beacuase if it is, get outside and get a social life.
Every single action in the game mean something for them, EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM (cit eheh)
Abby....ohohoh this is fat meat...in the first run I complitly hated Abby, when she died i laughed a lot but during her days, i started to apriciate her; in this game, Abby and Lev are Joel and Ellie, their relationship is the one we missed after Joel's death.
It's meanfuling if think about this,,,or you can't?
No because the 90/95% of the critics about this game is totally ****ed up, groupe of miserables...my mother language isn't english and i don't have the right skils to kill every senseless critics, i would like but i can't.
The final...after all, Ellie is completly broken (if you have red the diary, followed the cut scenes and undertood her feelings you know that) and leave her dream farm with to search herself (if i ever were to lose you, i'd surely lose myself...), she thinks the best way is to kill Abby and she doesn't have killed Abby because if she did, then she surely kill herself.
I don't have to explain this, thats it
I'm here not to write a rewiev, i'm here because i'm very angry with you people, because you ruined the sharing of this game, you totally misundertood th whole game, the gossip ABOUT Abby and Lev it's WOW and then destroyed the experience of houndreds of thousands of people because of your little brain.
Someone will punish you some day, i hope for that.
i'm waiting for your comments kids, but i would like to have a sane discussion with a human if there's one who don't apriciate this game with resonable arguments, and not you're HA, she is lesbian, he die, she's not female...
    Oh, Abby>>>Ellie

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. INTRODUCTION:
There is A LOT to talk about in this game. It's a TOTAL MESS. It takes the story from the first game, and completely turns it upside down. And remember, it's not called tlou 2, but part 2, which implies it's a continuation of the events that happened in the first game. I played tlou 1 when i was a little kid in 2014, in 2017 i played left behind, and in 2020 i played tlou 2 in the month of june. And i decided to replay the entire saga in the month of november, finishing it in around 18 days. Tlou 1 needs no introduction. Just fantastic. And left behind gave a lot of useful information on Ellie's backstory. Things change with part 2.
    THE STORY:
When i first played as Abby, i wondered who was she, and thought "Oh, a new character, let's see what happens with her". And it all collapses when she kills Joel. And the way Naughty Dog decides to do it, it's just SO BAD. Needless to say I instantly hated her. Now Ellie's part in Seattle isn't the problem, because I **** LOVED IT. And then, the game just starts going down and down and down when Abby reaches Ellie in the theater, and we get to play as Abby, FOR LIKE 8 TO 10 HOURS. The problem is, Abby's part of the game, it's literally a flashback of the events that led her to meet Ellie. Both Ellie's and Abby's flashbacks are just useless, they don't say anything. Because yeah, in Abby's part, there are SEVERAL flashbacks, which they're all inside ANOTHER flashback, and it gets so confusing. I found Abby's story EXTREMELY boring (Except the rat king and haven battle), when i was playing it i just repeated in my head "Please, let it be over, i can't take it anymore". And WHEN we finally reach the theater from Abby's perspective, we get to play as ABBY, FIGHTING ELLIE. I died a lot in that part, and when i did, it felt SO satisfying. But then, Abby almost kills Ellie and Dina (after having already killed Jesse and shot Tommy), but then she spares them because of Lev, and never wants to see her again. Then we see Ellie Dina and her baby living happily together, but right after, we see Tommy who Carl Grimes style survives a bullet to the head, saying he found where Abby is. The game could have ended there, with Ellie saying she's done and gives up on revenge. The game would've still been pretty disappointing, but it gets EVEN WORSE. Ellie leaves Dina and her baby, with 30 minutes of combat before fighting Abby. But the fight, IT WAS SO **** It's a super bad fist and knife fight, and it was **** if you think about uncharted 4 boss fight, which was perfect. When Ellie almost drowns Abby, she gives up and lets her go. In the fight she loses two fingers, and can't play Joel's guitar anymore. And that's it. It ends here. And i was SO PISSED when the roll credits came.
    GAMEPLAY:
Now, the combat mechanics were AMAZING. They were INCREDIBLY REAL, the levels of gore was INSANE, and the kills felt so satisfying. Combat was my favourite part of the game because in my opinion it was AWESOME. The gameplay was pretty much like tlou 1, with many enviromental puzzles, grabbing resources and crafting weapons, and many encounters in the path. Bugs are super rare, even though i encountered a few. But it's still very enjoyable. Not perfect, but i give it a 9/10.
    GRAPHICS AND AUDIO:
No comment. The graphics are THE MOST REALISTIC I ever saw. The level of detail is amazing. Same as sound design, and the soundtrack it's magnificent. Gustavo Santaolalla it's just one of the best videogame composers. 10/10.
    CHARACTERS:
Just. No. Horrible. Abby's horrible. Yara and Lev don't add much to the story. Neither Dina does. Joel and Tommy they don't count since they're still awesome, but they don't appear much. And Ellie actually passed to the part of the antagonist, since in the final fight Abby didn't even want to fight, but Ellie forced her by threatening Lev. She kinda acted like an **** sometimes towards others. Totally different from 14 year old Ellie in tlou 1.
    SUMMARY:
The game's been a huge disappointment. Within an arc of 7 years between part 1 and 2, Naughty Dog false-advertised the game, by putting lots of sequences with an old Joel in the trailers, and adding even scenes that aren't even in the game. You actually spend more time killing humans than infected. And humans lived in **** enourmos buildings with electricity and lots of other resources that you wouldn't find in a zombie apocalypse. It didn't even feel like a zombie game. But like a non-stop human killing simulator. It's just pure **** compared to tlou 1, other zombie games, and other Naughty Dog games. Totally different story that didn't spot a single thing with the first game's one. Joel gets killed by the daughter of A **** NPC, and she also gets to be one of the protagonist. It's like saying Solid Snake gets killed by the son of the one soldier he strangled in Shadow Moses. It's a total mess. Naughty Dog it's capable of a lot more than this.
We waited so long. Just **** disappointed by this.

I fell in love with the added ammo and crafted items. I absolutely hated what they did to the story. The direction they took with the story could have been acceptable if they went about another way. Joel's death would have been fine if it would have been later in the game, not the first 10 minutes. The real stab in the back is being forced the play the character that killed him. Splitting the game into two separate people that you need to essentially build from scrap is not cool. I hate that they made an attempt to get you emotionally involved with her. It's sickening. The cherry on top is not being able to kill her in the end. You suck Naughty Dog, thank you for taking my money and wasting my time on this pile of stinking garbage. Expand

I play video games for more than 35 years. I have seen all the evolution from the ugly 8-bit area to the new shiny and realistic 3D artwork. From my perspective it nearly never matters how a game looks as long as the story got you convinced. There are lots of tiny independent games out there in the App Store that look awful, but know how to tell a story.

This game in comparison is a well polished great looking movie spectacle - with a hollow story and empty characters. The revenge plot from both protagonists is a thing we have seen way to often and as the player have no possibility to change the course of the game it’s just a virtual movie where you are allowed to push some buttons while your actions will have no influence on the outcome of the game. It’s a boring one-dimensional game where you learn nothing about yourself, play characters who in case of Ellie act totally strange compared to part 1 or in case of Abby don’t get you hooked up with.

The side plots the game is offering didn’t get enough time to develop and in the end didn’t matter at all. Who cares if one group used some people as slaves or that another group tortured their enemies in some prison cells - if you have no chance to make a difference or at least interact in different ways with these presented incidents it doesn’t matter at all? Why not give us different decisions, different outcomes or at least different ways to the ending? Why not give us - the player - more time to get accustomed to the different side characters? Can someone name the friends of Abby you will all kill as Ellie? Can someone honestly say he cared about one character in this game besides Ellie and (of course) Joel?

And if you try to make a game that is tough, bleak and cruel like you think the real world could turn out in case of a pandemic - why are you so careful when it come to racism or sexism, making the whole thing you try to sell us as a possible apocalypse scenario totally unrealistic. In my opinion that’s the main reason while players like myself who could see past the killing of Joel and try to give this game a chance couldn’t get bought into it - the game tries to be realistic in his surroundings and violence while on the other hand is afraid to make any mistake with today’s social and ethical beliefs - especially regarding minority rights. These are two totally different sides who won’t fit into one scenario - you either make a realistic game until the bitter end or you sugarcoat it right from the start. But as the broken world is so realistic and polished in this game, these discrepancies are more obvious if the game wasn’t so perfect in its visuals.

The game left me sorrowful at the end - because of the potential it had with part one from 2014 and the strange decisions the developers did for this second part. If there wouldn’t be a first part and this game would have stand as a single game, maybe most gamers wouldn’t be so harsh. This was a missed opportunity to make something special and it was wasted for two identical revenge plots where two girls in a broken world where only driven by the motivation to avenge someone. And for 20 hours of gameplay - that’s not enough to be interesting till the end.

The creates of game try to push the narrative that Joel deserved his brutal death because he killed the Fireflies who were preventing to save his Ellie. Conveniently ignoring that Ellie was going to be murdered by the wonderful Zebra loving doctor without her knowledge and prior consent. I did not like the death of Joel and I am not a fan of then having to play the majority of the game as Joel's murderer. I won't mince words: it is a depressing game. You'll never be happy long. But damn, the writing tugged at me well. There was plenty of moments where I was initially like "WTF is this" but by the end, I realized the masterpiece that the game is.

The gameplay is really well refined from the first game as well. It's utterly laughable how many people can rate it zero. Even if you absolutely detested the story, there is really no denying that the gameplay is fantastic.

I give it a 9/10 as there's some areas of the story that I wish were elaborated more and some areas where the pacing felt off (mostly too slow). Several side characters felt like they weren't elaborated on strongly enough. And I felt it was far too easy to miss collectables, due to the many "one way doors" that the game has (I had multiple safes I knowingly missed as I thought that the clue to the combination was maybe behind some door). But for clarity, this game is damn near perfect!

As a standalone game, it's just barely average. But the story as a sequel makes absolutely no sense. Characters are regressed to the point of just wtf moments. It's clear that the writers just wanted it to be a Walking Dead clone with how they portrayed everyone. They completely disregard the fact that there are terrifying echolocating cordyceps zombies running amok. They are kind of just a side-note, even though it's what made the first game so scary. They make you love Joel in the first game, noting how distrusting he is, and then completely change his personality and make him look like a little b**** for the sake of crappy storytelling. And you can't even get revenge at the end of the game. Just an absolute failure. Wish I could get that wasted time back. Expand

a rehash, at the narrative level it does not reach the shoes of the previous one, the ending is anticlimactic and totally xD, the stupid death of jhoel is xD and the gameplay is the same after 7 years.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
