Best generation game ever. sound design, visual design, compacts mechanics, environmental design, and accessibility was really masterpiece and outstanding from Naughty Dog. Phenomenal work of arts and engineering has been delivered in this game. Story line and music choices compared with first part its not that quality, but still very good in a way or other. Very good job

This game is honestly a 10. I finished it and i'm currently replaying on survivor+. and I NEVER replay single player games but my experience with this game is very different than other story driven games.

I strongly disagree with people who say the story telling is bad. I love the subtle details that i am noticing in my second play through that tie the present and the flashbacks together (like when Ellie finds a guitar in the theatre, she flashes back to birthday). Yes its linear and there isn't much choice, but I like it this way, because they wanted their story to be told as they intended . Its supposed to evoke all emotions but wants you to understand the viewpoints from each side. I think they did a hell of a job to achieve this and glad they took a non mainstream approach to the ending/story.

Gameplay is smooth and very challenging when playing on higher difficulty. AI seems dependent on your location and thus they take different routes. I like the addition of dogs but still hate killing them lol

Graphically this game should definitely win awards. Everything is stunning, even the props.

BRAVO Naughty Dog and Neil Druckmann 10/10

But having marketing tlou2 as ellie story is misleading. Side characters are bland and the force of using violence and no 2nd choice to avoid violence is awful. congrats ND you made a very divisive game and alets be honest. for such a narrative heavy driven game, ND decides to kill off a beloved character just to move the plot. im only not giving it a 0 for the game play improvement. I'll be quick, I was excited to play this game and the skill trees and gameplay mixed with the brutal combat did bring some enjoyment to the game.. however the story completely destroys what the game could have been, none of the characters act the way they should and it seems like the creator wanted to make the game shocking just to be shocking. From Joel dying in the very of the beginning of the game in a way contrary to the way we all know he acts, to Ellie going on a long revenge hunt to not even get revenge and leaving the game feeling empty and full of holes. I wont ruin any more than that if you want to play it you should but lower your standards, I'd honestly wait for a sale Expand

Sad at what they turned to Ellie. I'm not homophobic but I don't want to play with a woman with a man's arms (Abby). Another thing, the people at Naughty Dog forgot that a game WILL NEVER BE A MOVIE. Putting sex scenes was RIDICULOUS !!! If I could ask for my money back I certainly would. I will think and research well before buying any game from this company again. Expand

Yet here I am, writing my second ever review and it's just to say one thing... this sequel topped it. It's a game that will stay with me for the rest of my life. The emotional journey only works when played through in its entirety. Just like with the original, this is a game that needs to be played start to finish for it to work as well as it does. I find it sad some people are so hard set against opening themselves to experiencing this game as it was intended. I admit there were points in my own play-through where I was telling myself there's no way they can pull off what I think they are trying to accomplish.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game gets a lot right. The environments, the lighting, the sound...all these things are absolutely stunning.
Unfortunately the story and characters are the foundation of this franchise and they are just not strong enough to support it.
My big problem with this game is how inconsistent it is with the first game’s tone and themes. It doesn’t feel like the second half of The Last of Us story; it feels like a different game by a different studio that incorporates elements of the first game without really understanding what made the first game so special.
The first game clearly established that this is a dangerous world. People die frequently and even finding safety in a QZ doesn’t mean a quiet life. It is harsh and overbearing. People just try to get by. Joel’s journey across the country with Ellie makes sense because of the extraordinary hope she represents for a cure. The player believes the characters’ motivations.
The characters in Part II seem unconcerned by the dangers of the outside. Abby travels over 800 miles from Seattle to Jackson with several companions simply to get revenge on the man who killed her dad 5 years ago. Ellie then travels back to Seattle with Dina to get revenge on Abby and co. No character ever acknowledges that these journeys are incredibly dangerous and nobody tries to convince Ellie that it’s a bad idea. It stretches believability to breaking point and the game is only a few hours in at this point.
Believability is actually a consistent issue throughout this game. So many times I just didn’t buy that the characters would be doing whatever it is they’re doing. Abby, who we are told is the WLF’s “top Scar killer” spends two days travelling all over Seattle to save the lives of two Scar teenagers who saved her life the day before. We frequently see Abby be disparaging about the Scars and even when she is risking her life to travel with Lev for life-saving medical supplies, she keeps using the term Scar even though he keeps correcting her to the less offensive ‘Seraphite’. It’s contradictory - we are supposed to believe that Abby cares enough about these two kids that she’ll risk her life to save them, yet she is apparently indifferent enough that she will keep insulting Lev with the term ‘Scar’. This is just one example of many where the characters’ actions don’t make sense. It gets worse to the point that Abby is willing to start killing lots of WLF members just to save Lev as she is, apparently, - after spending a few hours with him - so attached to Lev that she will totally abandon the safety and community she has with the WLF to begin an uncertain life with him. Again, makes no sense, and the game doesn’t try to justify it.
The dialogue is also in serious need of attention. The first game used subtext very effectively and allowed the player a lot of room to infer what the characters were thinking. This approach, which gave us beautiful lines of dialogue in the first game, is abandoned in Part II. The conversations are usually bland, trite and forgettable. Characters say things that feel out of step with where they are and what they’re doing. The lines just feel too ‘on the nose’ and, when compared to the first game, stick out like a sore thumb.
There are other issues too but the ones I’ve listed give you an idea of what this game is all about.
It’s not a *bad* game. It doesn’t deserve 0, 1 or 2 out of 10 but it certainly doesn’t warrant 10 either. My score of 7 reflects the fact that the game is superb in some areas but fails in the most important area - story and characters.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First of all some backstory. Let me first say i am a brown dude with very high regards for liberal views. Now that out of the way. Also I am a PC gamer bought PS3 just to play GTA 5 back in the days and a friend gave me Uncharted 3 and fell in love with the series and Naughty Dogs storytelling. Bought PS4 and also bought Last of Us for PS3 and remastered for PS4. I still play the game time to time like watching a movie again and again that I like. Now lets get to Last of 2.

Joel Dies : No problem, I knew its was going to be his fate since I first saw the revel trailer in my gut.
How he dies: No problem there, someone taking revenge, he was not a saint
He was stupid: He let his guard down no problem
Lesbian, transgender, leftist messages: No problem, I think they should push more of these so we feel normal the way forward in our diverse real world
Ending: Forgiveness, No problem with that

THE PROBLEM ? : I do not want to play as ABBY, here is the thing I have every single Uncharted game in my collection except the lost legacy. You know why ? Because I do not care about those characters in uncharted universe. When you buy a Part 2 of a story based game you expect a certain things. For me Last of us is about Joel and Ellie like uncharted about Sully and Drake. The story could have remained same but could have been just Eliies part and later added dlc could have shown Abbys part as they shown Ellies part in first games DLC so we could justify the ending in P2 just like in P1. Force playing as Abby and breaking the story like this jumble way really messed up the story. Do not get me wrong I can handle the dark brutal story but not in this messy way. This is not upto the Naughty Dog standards. Somehow I felt cheated, if you want Abbys story you could have made another separate game like lost legacy as well. Another problem is making me feel bad, hey man whoever wrote the story, learn the difference between a dark story and making the audience feel bad forcefully. Telltale Walking Dead following Clementine was a dark story, where Joel like character Lee dies in first season. But this one is just garbage and you feel guiltier than the Walking Dead playing this game.

Gameplay felt very polished and graphic my god it is the most gorgeous graphics I have seen in PS4 to date. Here you can see the Naughty Dog Standard. But I have a PC with 2060 TI GPU which was almost the price of a PS4. I do not play games from Naughty Dogs in PS4 for graphics but for story and experience. And if I have a bad experience and feel bad about my self after playing this game then whats the point.

I do not want to keep this game as I will never play this again and will be selling this to second hand market, I also urge those who bought this do not want to keep sell it to second hand market and flood it. They might have leaked the footage themselves like Thor Ragnarok to create controversy and let the you tubers fired up for free marketing. They sold around four million copies already. Buy it from second hand market guys do not pay them $60, its not worth it and you will not keep it.

Here is what I will do, I will forget about this game soon and pretend it does not exist. Again the difference between Part 1 I have 2 copy of that in my collection in a very safe showcase and this is going to another person for 20-30 droller. Another thing, good luck selling it to me and a lot of angry gamer a remastered version for PS5. This franchise is dead to me over and out.

4/10 for the people who worked day and night to make this **** story into a decent game.

I see what they were trying to do but they could’ve done it so much better and maybe in a less jumbled up way. Graphics are fantastic it’s the story however that was bad. Ellie and Dina, ok pretty cool. Joel dying, not as cool as I’d have wanted it but he had to die. Abby, cool story getting pushed but falls flat most times, forcing you to empathize with her and hate Ellie and Joel. The game, right off the bat, makes you hate Abby and nothing she can do really makes you root for her in a meaningful way. Again, not a bad game, just disappointing. Expand

First the game is great and fun to play, I was happy to retrieve a lots of mechanism from the first game. The infiltration system works well and there is a serious improvement on AI (your companion can be spotted by the enemies, even though they get sometimes in your way).
The graphics are great but what is really impressive is the tangibility of the environment and the animations and facial expressions. I especially loved exploring all the areas and feeling that humidity of Seattle. The facial expressions in cut-scenes or in-game are really on point and I don’t expect to see a game having that level of details for a long time. When you handle enemies, watching their expression is uncanny. The global atmosphere and universe is really well done and I was hooked during the entire game. However, there are some pacing issues and after the credits you can’t remember every confrontations because there are plenty, maybe too much. At some point the game starts to feel quite repetitive even though there are always a jump scare, or a character being tortured, mutilated or shot at some point, to galvanize the pace of the journey.
The game is one of the most violent I have ever seen. Some scenes are quite shocking and will haunt you forever. However, gore and violence sometimes seems to be an easy shortcut to get rid of characters and tricky situations that would have actually been interesting to see more elaborated. The game is very dramatic and depressing and will leave you emotionally exhausted at the end.

I was however greatly disappointed by the characters development in general. The game never managed to make me empathize with the new characters introduced. At one point you can feel like the writers wants you to like one character in particular, so they put everything they can to make you like her, but it felt forced. I wanted to feel and understand what Naughty Dogs wanted me to feel and understand but I couldn’t, because they did such a good job of pissing the player in the first hours of the game that you can’t get attached no matter what you will share with this character. I was also disappointed by the lack of interactions between the protagonists during exploration which helps building the characters and getting attached to them. So there was a lots of awkward silences which could have been used to build the characters and make them more likable, human.
So how can I rate a game that is so good and so well polished, but from which I feel emotionally excluded.

The Last of us part II, is a good game. Yet I understand the division in the player base, because it depends on everyone sensibility and capability to get over his own resentment. I can’t deny it’s unprecedented. But was it really intentional though? I globally liked the experience and would recommend to play it, however, on a pure writing and character building aspect, that's a big disappointment.

The story is very emotional, weather you like or not, the narration is good even though there are parts we're it feels way too streched. The biggest flaw of this game is that the story tends to be a bit too long in some parts, and some choices plot wise are not so well justified and explained. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If I could give this game negative reviews I would. I have no problem with the voice actors, Abby, or even the agenda they pushed heavily onto our plates. I gave it a chance so I could at least say my peace. My problem is with the people who thought this game was the best they could possibly come up with. The graphics are stunning, the music is beautiful, and the story.... blows. Literally blows. How can you manipulate everyone who loved Joel dearly showing us you guys putting Joel in the main trailers and having the audacity to put him on the tin game case with Ellie for more false advertising. And then when you play the game they proceed to kill him off 2 hours into the game and Abby screaming at him “do you know who I am!?” I can’t believe you’re okay with this and think it’s a fantastic game. Neil druckmann ruined this game for everyone who painstakingly avoided trolls and spoilers for years and this is the best you can come up with?! I hope no one buys another game from naughty dog because you just lost everyone who stood by you since Jack n daxter like myself. I deleted the game once I finished and it left a bad taste in my mouth. To kill Joel, to spit on Joel, and to spit on us to play his killer for half the game. You should be ashamed for the false advertisement to the loyal fans that’s backed you through the years and the micro transactions in TLOU. I will never buy another game from naughty dog because you lied, once you lie you’ll just do it again with another game right? Maybe when Neil isn’t in the top seat I’ll give a view to your trailers and actually look through the leaks and spoilers when the time comes. In finality, I would just like to say, I hope no one else pads your companies pockets again and returns TLOU2. Expand

The graphics were great and the game play was pretty good, but there were some elements of the combat system that I found a bit clunky. There were a things that I felt were added to shake up certain combat encounters that I thought were kind of lazy- I'm not a fan of games that use the whole "oh no, you've lost your stuff and now have to have a hand to hand boss battle!" thing more than once, and this one did. It is not one with a positive ending, and a lot of people don't like that- which is understandable. I happen to be someone who likes depressing and dark media, so part of my positive score is just from personal taste. Overall, however, it was a good game. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Genuinely mediocre game, I thought throughout the first half it was a masterpiece and then the **** plot of "revenge bad" came up and the game tries to make you sympathize with a character that it just set up as a villain, rewriting the end of the first game changing the African doctor in a broken down and dirty hospital room who had questionable intentions to the white guy who saves zebras and just want to save the world in a super clean and sterile room.
The previous game continually points to the Fireflies being incompetent terrorists but Joel needs to deliver Ellie even if it's not likely to get a cure. Turns out for some reason the Fireflies are so incompetent that they can't make a cure unless they kill her and neither she or her father-figure got told that. Joel would have had all his weapons and supplies taken and him being escorted to the edge of the city to fend for himself with NOTHING. Being unable to go on without her and having his daughter taken away from him the second time he couldn't handle it and saved her. I don't remember where but the game implies there were many other immune people who have already been killed by the Fireflies.

TLOU2 made Joel's ambigous personal choice to save a daughter-figure after he couldn't save his own daughter into just Joel being the villian that ruined everything for everyone and he deserved to be tortured and killed infront of his brother and daughter-figure. And the worst part is Ellie never forgave Joel for lying to her, Abby's crew took away that from her and she's angry. At that point the players are emotionally invested in Ellie's grief and we're encouraged to get revenge, but nope halfway through you just stop playing as her and play as Abby for THE REST OF THE GAME, helping your enemy and the game throwing in random stuff to make you sympathize with her, playing with dogs, ushering children to school, taking care of a pregnant woman is all just cheap ways to make you like her.

Manny is a womanizer who's banging 3-4 different women telling them he's the only one for them, and then starts hitting on Abby, Mel is just an **** in general making Owen cheat on Abby to be with her instead, Nora and the 2 other guys are ****s for trying to kill Ellie and so on and so forth.

The game play is similarly fantastic, and I enjoy the slitting of throats and destruction of femurs with shotgun shells more than I'd care to admit.

However, neither of these are the controversial aspect of the game. The narrative direction has pissed a lot of people off, to say the least. Some are justified, but most of the negative reviews you see here are something along the lines of "they don't respect the characters." I can't really elaborate further without spoilers. Personally, I loved the way the plot progressed, because it felt like I was in the pages of a gripping novel, the kind that you can't put down. That's the best way to think about this game, as a novel. Tension ratchets up and simmers off and ratchets up again. It's messy, the objective you start out with is never achieved. It's frustrating. In that way, I think it emulates real life far better than the first game, which is decidedly more movie-like. If you don't like reading, you're probably going to struggle with this story. It isn't for everyone.

This game has grown on me in the weeks since completion, and I have a great respect for Naughty Dog pushing the bounds of storytelling in video games. There are issues that I have with the game; enough to knock it down to a nine in fact. However, if you own a PS4, do yourself a favor and buy this wonderful mess.

So, in this game you're forced to sympathize and empathize with a new character, Abby, which father you killed in the first game as Joel. The doctor was the only (...) doctor who were able to safe the world (...).
Joel dies in the first ~ 2 hours of the game, which i'm fine with. I'm also fine with how he dies.
But i'm not fine with playing for 10 - 15 hours with this annoying new super hulk character (Abby), in which i have zero interest in. Neither do i have any interest in any of their friends.

I wanted do enjoy and play the game as Ellie, but nope. Play as Abby and feel what she feels. There were not a second i gave a **** about her.

The most annoying thing is the end of the game:
You, as Ellie, have a fist fight against Abby. On the way finding Abby you killed hundred of people, just to get her location and get your revenge. Then, you finally reached your goal and find Abby, you're fighting her and you're about to drown her, but then, you stop. Because revenge is bad and you feel bad if you kill her.
    WTF.
Anyway: Plot holes and bad writing everywhere. Glad i got the game physically and can sell it again.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The people who seem to be mad at this game clearly don't like The Last of Us fundamentally. This game didn't shove politics in our faces, it always was a part of this franchise ( like seriously, LOU was feminist as **** ). How this game treated it's characters is nothing new. Characters like Henry and Tess showed the player that no character is safe, not even the main one. This game franchise always left the player feeling uneasy ( the last game had Joel completely destroy the only chance for a cure and lied about it ). So alot of this games criticisms are nothing that the last game hasn't done already. This game has gotten a terrible rep despite having tense gameplay, incredible graphics and setting, interesting characters, and a compelling and complicated story. This game had me yelling, crying, cringing ( in the sense of how graphic it's gets at times ) and my heart melting throughout it. But by far the best thing about this game is that it made me feel empty at the end of the story. Most games, hell even most movies and stories, always leave you feeling content despite how unearned it may be most if the time. They leave the audience satisfied but not always challenged in the end. So for a triple A game to take the risk of pissing off it's player base to go for a story that leaves an impact is something very astonishing. Most players would like to believe that video games should be an art form and one that can be taken seriously. But they often times don't want games or stories that deviate outside of the norm. And with this game, they just want this story to conform to other stories that make them feel comfortable. Without room for works that can challenge, games no longer become art but rather products.

What I'm trying to say is that this game isnt a huge deviation from what has happened before, that it pulls off what it sets to do very well, that this game does things that even most movies dare not to do and that if games are art then they should be allowed to be challenging. But above all else is tgat this game has pushed the game industry forward in having this form of entertainment be considered art with it's incredible story and gameplay.

If anything else, at least this game has left many with an intense emotion rather than most other games that leave most feeling nothing.

P.s. I'm sorry if this doesn't make a whole lot of sense, there's just so much I can say about this game and it's hard to form it all in a nice understandable way ( I can talk for hours about this game ).This was just a way of me putting my rambly feelings out there.

P.s. again. Also yeah I know that me saying that this game did alot of the same **** that the last game did might seem like it clashes with my statement that this games pushes the boundaries of the gaming industry. But the series has always pushed boundaries and it clearly has carried onto this title :)

P.s again ( last time, I promise ) There are some genuine criticisms of how it was falsly marketed and how the trans character Lev was handled. Firstly, yeah it was ****ty to promise one thing and deliver another and ND shouldn't have lied about what in the game ( like at least be honest about the dog part ). Lastly, I loved Levs character and although the rep is not as bad as other trans characters in the past, it's still not great. They probably shouldn't have deadnamed and talked about his trans trauma, and they probably should've hired trans writers for his character. However, it is nice how Levs character is not just his trauma and that he's a fully fleshed out character, and that they did actually hire a trans man to voice act and mocap his character. Also, the fact that there is any trans guy rep in a major videogame at all is incredible. The line about Lev having to do the nasty with the elders and showing Lev fight with his mom about his tranness was a step too far. I still love the character anyways.

Most of the time you see uninspired cutscenes with poorly written characters you feel no empathy to or aimlessly walk around empty spaces. Then, it shows you what these feelings cost. The process of forgiving takes time, this is why Ellie killed so many people but not Abby at the end. And if you still want to kill Abby at the end of the game, then it means you lost the game. This game shows you that you are not pure good and the people you hate are not pure evil. There is no hero or villain in this story and in the real life. In addition, in real life, most of the people die early in a way they do not deserve. I wanted her to die the entire time. The fact that Elle never gets her revenge was even more insulting. **** this game. Expand

The graphics are cool, the plot is diarrhea, propaganda, you can continue almost endlessly.
P.S:1 part was cooler in everything

Great game with an extremely emotional story about love, loss, grief, heartbreak and empathy. If you’re not into emotional stories then this game is not for you. It’s violent and may end in ways you don’t like but when you step back and think, it has so many more implications than the surface level plot. It’s violent and may end in ways you don’t like but when you step back and think, it has so many more implications than the surface level plot. There are some issues though, the pacing is pretty off and there’s some padding in it to extend the gameplay. It’s very easy to get lost even as someone who’s been gaming for 20 years. The pros far outweigh the cons here and it deserves a playthrough by anyone who appreciates an extremely detailed game with an emotional story Expand

Garbage. Absolutely awful game, and that's all because of the story. And, of course, gameplay is just the same as it was in part one. The graphics are kinda cool though.

Answer: 1) Joel and Ellie's relationship. 2) The stakes of finding a cure.

Question: How to ruin the second game?
Answer: 1) Remove Joel + Ellie's relationship by replacing them with character's we've never met or seen before. 2) Forget about finding a cure.

Now the story is centred around Ellie's desire for revenge and there are flash backs to her and Joel and these are the best moments in the game. But for half the game, we focus on people we didn't come to see AFTER they've already killed Joel.

And we're supposed to like them?

It's frustrating because the production value is insane, all the actors are amazing, the gameplay is solid and the music is beautiful. The scenery and level design are some of the best ever.

Игра шедевр в плане геймплея, и сюжета. Есть один недостаток- это тупость ботов.

Although the graphics, music and AI was brilliant, the story was all over the place and made little to no sense, the writing wasn’t good at all. I’m also all for lesbian relationships, buff women, trans people and people from all backgrounds race, sexuality any of that.. but when you noticeably force it down our throats it doesn’t work and ends up being in the game just because.. also I’m displeased having to watch my favourite character Joel die in the first hour only then having to play as the character who kills him. For 10 HOURS!!! I forced myself to get over it after the first hour playing as Abbie but then it got boring and I was simply rushing things to try and get back to playing as Ellie again.. shouldn’t have to feel like I have to rush things in order to get past a certain section of a game.. no player should have to deal with that.. also trying to force us to like Abby NEVER worked.. because of how blatantly FORCED it was.. and it was so obvious that Abbie was being painted as this saint after killing Joel, while Ellie was painted as the bad girl who kills all the dogs which we see Abbie pet and play with later on.. talk about manipulation at its finest.. the graphics, music and AI are the only reason this game gets a 4 from me other wise I’d give it a straight 0 Expand

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
