It's a game about giving up everything you love for revenge. It's about you being the villain in someone else's story. It's about feeling empathy by putting yourself in another person's shoes. This game broke my heart, and I loved every minute of it.

It can sometimes be unconfortable. But ist is what makes the game so unique, so perfect. TLOU has always been about the fine line between living and dying, between what's good and what' s wrong. The game does it perfectly. No body is safe, no one is invincible. And it shows us that one's actions are not always good for everyone. I do understand that the game is not for everyone. But I cannot understand why some poeple would give it a zero. It is visually stunning. The story is long, complex and so enjoyable. The gameplay is even better than the first game. It should be at least a 7/10, but for me, it's a 10, without a doubt. It is the best game I have played in my entire life. Period. A game so deep and so powerful will always stay in my top. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A game that expertly depicts the cycle of revenge and violence that only leads to despair. By playing as both the characters Abby and Ellie it allows you to see both sides of the story and how they mirror each other, leading to the answer that neither character is good or bad, and is just human. On top of this you have some of the best graphics I have ever seen in a video game and gameplay that has expanded on the original. There is a lot of hate towards the game promoting a social agenda by including multiple LGBTQ characters, dont belive all the negative reviews held by those that are posting hate for the pure reason of intolerance to others in society.

The Last of Us part II - игра высочайшего качества и одна из лучших игр текущего поколения, главная проблема которой заключается в том, что это не совсем та игра, которую все ждали.

The first game set a standard of beautiful story telling, and this does the opposite - quality story telling has been set aside in favor of making a political statement. It doesn't matter how sympathetic I am to the cause, or how much I stand for the right to use your platform to make a statement -- when you sacrifice the quality of your product for it, you're just a shill. I felt that this game did a lot wrong, but also did a lot right, the game play felt fun through most of the segments, the levels were interesting and in my opinion dynamic, however, one of the major problems with the game is by far the ending, a lot of people complain about the beginning of the game(which is justified in some aspects) but the worst damage is done by the ending. Before the ending of the game, i could really see myself coming back to play through again on new game plus but by the time i made it past the last segment with the new enemy faction and that miserable ending, i felt like going back to play this game would be a waste of time especially with the lackluster ending that makes you wonder why you decided to play the game in the first place. Overall this is another fantastic game by naughty dog. I do agree that the second part is not nearly as good as the first, and some of the story elements feel very forced to fit a very obvious narrative.

The writing isn't anywhere as good as the first game, and today's political environment is interjected into the game without much thought on how it could impact the tone of the game.

Unfortunately, I think we will be seeing more of this in the next generation of gaming. No one wants the author's politics obviously interjected into a game.

However, all that's being said... I still enjoyed the game start to finish. It didn't have the same overall impact on me as the first, but that was always going to a hard feat to accomplish.

Locations are huge, hordes of infected-a separate theme of the game. Because of the power of the console, the developers allowed themselves such a Fitch, which brought additional success to the game. Music: everything is great, Gustavo was hired again, he made great soundtracks. Plot:here you can already turn around. It is divided into two lines, let's say:the love line and the revenge line. The love line after the final remained, personally for me, under a small question. Although Druckmann said that the story is complete, so far, but I still do not understand the relationship of the main character with her friend. If this was explained, I would understand better, and so, this plot point seems to end near the end of the story, but still the question arises "what's next with them?". The essence of this chemistry is revealed, which is a huge plus. Of course, I would like more details, but perhaps we will learn about this in the third part. But even here the opposite occurs:I can't yet imagine what you can come up with in the third part of the game. It seems that the story has come to its end, but I want something more explosive, so to say, the end. Throughout the game, you sit there and don't understand what's going on, but by the end, everything is connected. Revenge... Well, everything is clear here. A parallel is drawn between Ellie and another character. Revenge is a component of their goals, and you understand it during the passage. Revenge breeds more revenge, as does violence. You sit there and think, when is this all going to end, do they both need it? In the pursuit of revenge, both ruin their destinies, their peaceful lives, as a result of which they lose a lot. No one thinks ahead, everyone is driven only by this feeling, and it is impossible to stop, the process is already started, what was the point to start? You, as a player, play for both sides, and by the end of the game you just want it all to stop, because there is nothing to fight for. You seem to be halfway across the country, but is it worth the loss?
Thus, the game we've been waiting for, has paid off in spades. Heavy and scattered pieces of the plot weaves into one lump at the end of the game, and you understand what you wanted to convey Druckmann. Strictly my assessment:9.4/10.

    10/10 not likely !!!
I brought the last of us off a angry joe review done and simply fell in love with the game ( that I otherwise would have not bothered with ) story graphics an absolute gem...
i have patiently waited for a sequel for quite a few years and was pleasantly surprised when it was announced and have been reading and waiting for the release date ….
Only to be disappointed after spending the 25 hours to complete the game i feel let down and very very disappointed ..
graphically its amazing and game play is entertaining but the story is a disaster for naughty dog to spew out this crap something is wrong with in there company ..
firstly you kill Joel with in the first few hours okay i guess the story has a goal kill the person who did it and all the people involved revenge story i like it ….
so playing as ellie for the first 10 hours or so was great she had a purpose so i had a purpose ..
    BUT
This is where it went to sh.t WTF naught dog you then make me play as this weird woman with arms and a body like a man is she trans does she like the gym to much i have no idea what she is except for the fact i want to kill this thing ( there is also no real explanation to what she is ) so i carried on with the game all the time thinking WHY am i playing this character...
Then to add insult to injury you try make her out to be a good person WTF so stupid!!
Okay so i get to what i think is the end the farm not at all satisfied with the outcome but ohh well then the biggest owen on abby…Ellie goes after her one last time to do nothing but let her go why why why!!!!
This game has no clue on what it was trying to achieve story wise and was left confused and disappointed …
Here ill write the story for naught dog abby kills joel , ellie goes bat **** crazy and takes out each of the people that had something to do with it each giving up through torcher or other means to the location of the next member ellie gets a new side kick like the little scar kid abby got ( so you now got a joel and ellie story ellie being the wiser protector ) in the end you can kill abby or not but sets up another game last of us 3 ellie vs abby game or sets up the story with ellie as a mentor for the next game simple!!!
conclusion this game has ruined my love of naughty dog and there games now that i will be hard pressed to invest in there bullsh.t again GOOD WORK!!

How the story was written made me question whether vengeance is ever worth it or not. I found myself caring for the protagonists and their allies, sympathizing with their internal and even external pain. Moreover, the characters’ actions are realistic in a sense. They felt alive. When I played as the protagonists, my opinions didn’t matter, but theirs did—and I followed their every choices no matter how disapproving they were to me. The combat, stealth, and exploration of the game are astounding. The combat is more diverse than the first game with their added implementation of the well-done dodge mechanic. The AI also communicates greatly with each other as well as the player and their actions. Stealth is better than ever, with numerous ways of achieving those sneaky kills or sneaky, pacifistic getaways. Furthermore, depending on whoever you play as, how you approach your enemies would differ. On one character, I kept relying on traps and explosive tools. On the other, I mainly used arrows and silencers—the more quiet gear. Lastly, the world is just impressive to have been developed. There are fascinating details and unessential yet intriguing stories and lore, in the form of artifacts and graffiti, in almost every place of the game. This adds more to the place its set in, and makes it feel more realistic. In conclusion, the game did much, much better than the first. Not just on its gameplay aspects, but also on its story. I respect the directions they took, and I enjoyed it all the way. Trust me when I say this, your Last Of Us experience is going to be an incredible, immersive one if you tackle it with an open-mind and an adventurous instinct. Expand

It's undeniable that this game is visually stunning and has vastly superior gameplay to TLOU 1. The combat is fun and there's a nice and diverse set of weapons to use. I also really appreciate all of the customization tools. You can customize difficulty in really specific and unique ways, you have the option to replay specific chapters or even encounters, and there are a ton of ways to customize accessibility.

While I don't think TLOU 2 is quite on the same level as God of War (2018), I think it's just a notch below, maybe on par with HZD. It doesn't deserve 1/100th of the hate it's gotten, and will likely be seen as a tremendous accomplishment in a few years once all the controversy dies down.

And to the people losing their minds over this game, just...play something else. Nothing good comes out of blind rage, which, ironically, is the central theme of TLOU 2.

Killing a beloved character, that acted out of character and not giving the satisfying ending to hunt down the person who killed him and not only that but actually having to play that character, is insulting! It is as if they wanted to SPIT in the face of the fans who LOVED the first part.
The reviews are not based upon gameplay / graphics, we all know that this isn't the problem, the story is. Killing off Joel could have been done in a better way if they had to remove him from the game.
Shame on you Druckmann! You are not a genius writer, you are a showoff with no real talent.

The story wants so desperately to be poetic and subversive, but beneath its surface lies a cliched and poorly written revenge tale that fails to add anything new or meaningful to the genre. Worse, the legacy characters of the first game are wasted as stepping stones.

Heres a bunch of revenge films that explore the themes better. "The Chaser", "I Saw The Devil", "Oldboy". Watch any of these 3 films and compare it to TLOU2. The gulf in writing quality is a joke, and critics and fans piling on praise just because a videogame was willing to be subversive is a piss poor excuse for good storytelling. I cant stress this enough, "I Saw The Devil" pretty much has the exact same plot as TLOU2, but is executed brilliantly, with nasty violence that actually shows the consequences of vengeance in a brutal, and unflinching manner. That is a story that never drags, and never cops out near the end. But lets talk about TLOU2.

Here are the numerous issues the game has.

Pacing: Its a slog. Theres no other way to say this. The game is boring and repetitive after the first few hours. Here is how it goes. You look for clues, you hit a dead end. Rinse and repeat, until you hit a climax, and then you switch characters and repeat the whole process again. Rinse and repeat. In an attempt to show duality the game forgoes all sense of momentum in favor of thematic relevance, which in this case fails dues to uninteresting and poorly written characters. Which brings us to the next point.

Characters: Before you say "oh you just hate Abby", I want you to know that every single character here is **** Including Joel and Ellie. The writing for everyone here feels like asinine emotional manipulation, convenience after convenience just so that this revenge plot can keep on moving. Characters make choices that are infuriatingly dumb and unbelievable. And Abby? Yeah her entire cast of characters might as well be forgettable mini bosses. Plus, no matter how hard ND tries to make you sympathies with her, i never once cared for anything in her storyline.

Plot: My god what a **** mess this section is. Everything here is either an conveniently placed plot device, where characters just HAPPEN to meet a specific person that furthers the story's themes, or just HAPPEN to survive scenario through sheer dumb luck. Sure, the first game had this too, but it was somewhat believable. Here? Both Abby and Ellie have crazy plot armor and this whole thing gets dragged on longer than a funeral. And all for what? Revenge is bad, violence is bad, another preachy mess of a revenge tale that hilariously cops out near the end. Again, i cant stress this enough. If you actually want to see a revenge tale that SHOWS the disastrous effects of vengence, watch "I Saw The Devil".

Structure: Absolutely broken. Remember how in line you were with Joel's journey in the first game? Forget all that. TLOU2 constantly puts you in Abby's shoes at the worst possible time, to break up the structure in one of the most heavy handed ways of showing perspective. It isnt smart, or deep. It has the subtlety of Nolan shoving exposition down your throat, except that this happens half the game, or around 15 hours.

Conclusion? Whats left is an ugly mess of a game, that visually looks stunning. But there is absolutely nothing here that actually continues the first game in a cohesive manner. Look, i would have welcomed a darker sequel if it made sense. But here? The characters of the first game are used as mere plot devices to tell this heavy handed tale of "revenge is bad". The critical reception of this game is shockingly tone deaf, and will go down as one of the most ridiculous examples of an echo chamber of praise.

After all that, do i still love the first game? Yeah, i do.
The sequel does not exist to me.

    Gameplay: 9.5/10

Some of the sequences near the end were a bit repetitive, but the vertical nature of combat, enhanced stealth options, dogs, enemy AI, etc. made it to where there was always danger near). I really enjoyed the additions of the stun bombs and silencers in particular. I think that really meshed well with gameplay options.

    Story: 9/10

Is the story is compelling and moving as the first game? Not for me personally, but I don't even know if that was the intention of the story. Compared to Ellie and Abby, I've never experienced such great loss or yearned for revenge at all costs. I commend Naughty Dog for making these choices and characters relatable though and taking bold risks in their story.

Some are comparing this game's story value to Season 8 Game of Thrones and The Last Jedi. I believe those comparisons are totally unfair. At no point in this game did I feel the need to suspend disbelief in order to understand a character's decision making. Characters certainly made decisions I did not support, and Naughty Dog masterfully used the agency involved with video games in order to better empathize with the actions of characters. I was absolutely fuming at Joel's death, but I also understood Joel had people on his bad side. I found Abby's story incredibly compelling, and I ended up rooting for her in a way. I obviously didn't want her to kill Ellie, but I certainly no longer wanted Ellie to exact retribution against Abby.

The game is quite dark and speaks to the cycle of violence as been has discussed extensively. The lesson of forgiveness and ending the cycle of violence came with a supreme price as it often does: tons of death to people not directly involved.

I also felt heavily connected to the new side characters, especially Dina, Jessie, Yara, Lev, and Owen. I feel this offered a ton of value to the growth of the characters and the plot itself. Although there were times early on in the game where talking about getting Dina back to Jackson felt repetitive and reminded me of Dutch's consistent "Tahiti" plan in RDR2.

One thing with the story though that was difficult was being shown, in cut scenes, that actions of the playable character may not be justified from the other viewpoint. However, it was jarring at times to then go back into gameplay and start sneaking around, avoiding killing but obviously doing so at times. Now, similar to Joel, there are likely many people out in the world that want to kill Ellie, because she killed an NPC in this game who has hopes, dreams, and a family similar to Abby's dad in the first game, the surgeon.

This game was complicated and dark, but I ultimately think it spoke largely to the glorification of violence in video games and the need for perspective. We can all be heroes and villains in a story based on perspective. In regards to games, the Last of Us 2's story has very VERY few peers and is a worthy sequel to the first game, which I consider to be my favorite game of all time.

Overall, I'd give this a game roughly a 9.5 which isn't possible on metacritic, so I rounded up to 10 in order to offset some troll review bombing. In this, I'm assuming a scale of 0 to 10 where 5 is average. Very few games overall should receive 10s, but this is pretty damn close.

With Joel’s death, Ellie is on a revenge quest that also makes you see the other side of a revenge tale with Abby. The story is great if you understand tragedy in literature, however, for more impact, I would have place the play through in different sequences, but ultimately end up in the same place where revenge begats revenge and no one wins.

This tale seems to set up a third hopefully and can’t wait to see what that entails if they go the way of showing off the resurrected fireflies. I’ve read and seen many reviews about people upset with Abby, but to me it was a way to show off her side of events just to reach the conclusion and nothing more. Excellent gameplay and controls feel smooth where I’m not fumbling around to figure out what I need in major boss fights and encounters are just as nerve racking as the first, loved it. Definitely a must buy.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. After finishing the game I can honestly say that it is wonderful. I have been reading lots of reviews giving the game a 3 or below and I will tell you now that they are trolls. Notice that practically none of the people who gave this game a low rating specifically state what part of the game was terrible in their opinion.

So if I'm being honest for the longest time I was not thinking that this game was worth a 10/10. I thought a solid 8 because I felt there was set backs. For example, the killing of Joel was tough to handle. How could Joel, one of the most beloved characters, die so early on in the game? And why did Naughty Dog choose to kill him in such a vulgar way? I like to think that killing Joel early on sets up the story same as how Naughty Dog did in the first one. When Sarah dies, Joel stays alive and fights for her, even though this message is implied and not directly stated in part 1. Now Joel is older and he's watched Ellie grow up. Him dying in a nonheroic way sets the tone for this revenge story because Ellie does not want to remember Joel as weak .If Joel would have died more heroically, I'd like to argue that she would be less likely to seek revenge on Abby. In her mind, Joel would have went out the way he should, in honor.

Now, switching from Ellie to Abby in the game pissed me off for the longest time. Playing as Ellie made me realize how bad ass she's become. But playing as Abby gave gamers a look at another persons life in the apocalypse and it led gamers to realize that no one is really a hero. Now, as a person who has played TLOU 5 times, I will tell you that it took in between 2-3 times of playing the game through to understand why the fireflies aren't an irrational group. So playing this game as Abby allows us to see her trauma, her anger, and her story right away.

Now I know people will get angry when I say this but I honestly did not hate playing as Abby. She had good weapons and a good back story. Her reason for revenge made so much sense. I have seen people argue that 5 years is to much time to hold this grudge or that 5 years is to long before going on a mission to kill Joel, but you have to remember that communication is hard during this time. It only makes sense that it would take years to find Joel's location because everything is word of mouth. Now I did hate playing Abby when it came time to Ellie and Abby fighting in the theatre, but overall I did not hate her character.

Now I want to talk about the biggest spoiler of them all, Ellie not killing Abby. Now people are pissed about it, and I understand where this anger is coming from, but I am not angry about this. The first reason I am not angry about this is because if Ellie kills Abby, Lev will die too. The second reason is that she has a flashback of Joel at the end of the fight and she realizes that killing Abby isn't going to bring back Joel. She realizes that she was only going to kill Abby in Joel's honor but she remembers her last conversation with Joel and that seems to change her mind. She talks with Joel about forgiveness, something that is now given to Abby. Just as Abby has given Ellie the chance to live on two separate occasions, Ellie is choosing to let her live.

Now people are going to argue, "Why go to California if you aren't going to finish the job?"

Let me ask you this, how many fights have you let go even when your honor was on the line? Or someone's honor that you loved?

Have you let those problems go? Or do you still hold a grudge?

Whether it be the bullying you might have seen in school, something you care about being torn to shreds, or a unique experience you've encountered, we've all been there.

So to summarize the message, its not ridiculous to forgive.

This choice to let Abby go touches on the ideology we call "The Circle of Violence" that exists in society today.

Now I can defend the story all day but I do want to mention a few things that Naughty Dog did well. First off, Naughty Dog made this game so user friendly. For example, there are certain settings available to help people that are colorblind, have epilepsy, and don't want to see the maximum amount of gore. They were really considerate and inclusive when making the settings. Secondly, going prone is a game changer (nothing more to be said honestly). Third, the fact that Naughty Dog allows players to break windows in the game to get into buildings is more realistic than Joel having to find a key, or alternative routes to get somewhere. Plus Ellie can swim so that burden is lifted from gamers. Lastly (and this is my favorite point), there are a handful of moments in the game where you don't have to worry about enemies or infected. You can just admire the surroundings, such as when you hold JJ or when you are admiring space with Joel. These moments really help gamers get more invested.

So if you've made it this far, thanks for coming to my ted talk. This game is most definitely worth the buy!

26h 12min, this was the time it took me to finish the game and I haven't even reached 100%, I only got 149 collectibles in my first game. And, to be honest, I have the feeling of "I don't know if I would play again". The game is not bad, but neither is it a masterpiece.

Like Uncharted 4, TLOU part II is a linear game that flirts with the exploration of extensive maps, only that there are not many open areas to explore (which is a shame). And Naughty Dog is to be congratulated, the strongest point of the game is the setting of the scene (which is stunning, by the way).

The mechanics are almost the same as the first title, with the added feature of lying on the ground and dodge. And speaking of changes, three different factions (WLF’s, Seraphites / Scars and Rattlers) were added and two new types of infected were introduced, the Shamblers and the Rat King. As you can see, there are few additions.

The developer sold the idea of individualizing the NPC, making them talk to each other, respond better to the player's actions and, when their allies died, shout each other's names. Except that they were not careful to at least change the appearance of the NPC even in the most closed scenarios, I had the feeling of killing triplets (which broke the feeling of immersion). Individualization was a nice idea, but it was not done well.

Something that I must make clear, with respect to gameplay and that hindered my experience, the game eventually made me dizzy (even changing accessibility and using motion sickness control), so I was forced to take a break of at least 30 min to return to play. Which breaks the fluidity of the gameplay. I say more, I only continued to play because of the curiosity to see the outcome.

It is a story shaped by violence, and I was literally guided by the feeling of anger. The game fed me with hatred and then tried to add the feeling of empathy (which it did not, the story fueled my hatred in a way that, when it tried to show me another perspective, I didn't care about anything).

Keep your expectations low, so that you can have a better gaming experience. TLOU part II was made for you to get into the character's skin, to feel what he feels, but it is a very subjective field and the narrative does not always reflect the feelings of the player and character. That was the biggest sin in the game.

To conclude, the game in general is fun. I, who really like exploring the scenery, was a good experience. But the outcome of that story (what kept me playing), in the eyes of a guy who loves the first game, was disappointing. If the game had given the choice of outcome, had given the player agency, it would have been a totally different experience.

Game play is okay, but the story is terrible. The game does gives you option on all the important choices within the story, making you fell all you do inside the game is useless

I hated Abby since the beginning and I think that was the goal since she killed Joel so how can we like her , for me Joel is what made #tlou without him without his loss his agony his love the last of us won’t be the last of us. Having him die that way in the first act of the game was shocking & I couldn’t like Abby or justify what she did although the game tried to make me feel something toward her but I couldn’t, how can I forgive her ? The whole game is based on that premise of love, hate forgiveness. But I couldn’t forgive her as Ellie or as a player although Abby has been humanized in the flashback or her saving Liv but still she did something that till now it feels like she robbed us and she stole something that we love and cherish. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Yes, I didn't like the story of the game, unfortunately... (In technical terms, the game is beautiful, has great mechanics and gameplay, but it contains several bugs, even in cutscenes. But I'll focus on the story here.)
Don't get me wrong, I respect those who liked the game.
The main point that everyone is discussing is the death of Joel, and my main problem with it is the way it was executed. A series of script conveniences, coincidences and even mischaracterization of the characters (Joel and Tommy), broke the game for me. People who liked the game generally argue that the two "softened" and are more sensitive to life in Jackson, so they made the mistakes and actions that culminated in Joel's death. (at least here in Brazil, where I am from, people are saying that a lot)
The problem is that this is not presented at any time and is nothing more than a deduction that seeks to justify the script. And having to justify a script is also a problem. I believe that the two characters, even more sensitive, would still know what to do and what not to do in a situation like that, and because they have people they care about now, they would not let their guard down.
Not considering the convenience of the script that makes Abby saved just by whoever she looks for and wants to take revenge on, and other coincidences that take Joel and Tommy to her camp, the death scene is all very strange. The two unarmed, surrounded by armed strangers and in military clothes. Tommy positions himself close to the wall on a piece of furniture with a view of everything that is happening, and Joel walks to the middle of the room with his back turned, completely vulnerable and surrounded. The two make the same mistake a second time: naming their real names. For the second time... Abby then pulls out his Shotgun and Tommy who has a view of the whole room does nothing (error of direction that makes the character only see what the camera sees) and the rest we already know, Joel dies as if he were no character important. Ellie's arrival at the mansion is also quick and very easy. Where was the rest of the infected horde that chased Joel, Tommy and Abby? And the game itself admits this facility by Owen's character who complains that no one was on guard at the other entrance to the mansion, when Ellie arrives. And that was just about Joel's death, imagine the rest of the story...

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
