Masterful Story Telling! The story is rich with World Building and Characters. The theme of vengeance and its repercussions feels oppressive in every scene and the cycle of violence is unrelenting. It's okay to disagree with a character story, but some of y'all haven't beat the game and it shows.

I've been waiting for this game for a good while, like most fans of the series, but after seeing all these negative user reviews, I have to wonder how many "fans" actually played the first game. Did they not understand the gravity of the story and how it ended?

I remember feeling an insane weight from the impact of the original game, and after my first few hours of playing the long-awaited sequel, I was torn apart emotionally. Every beat in the story, right from the get-go, is rather painful from an empathetic point of view. I felt every emotion, every action that carried echoes of past trauma... I just can't understand why people who claimed to enjoy the heart-wrenching storyline of the first game suddenly expected the sequel to be a light-hearted romp that held their hand with easy to process views like "good guys good, bad guys bad, zombies scary but it's all gonna be ok."

Even the harshest reviewers seem to give credit where it's obviously due, so I'll start with the easy part: The graphics are truly amazing and the atmosphere and environments are riveting. The world is so large, and the cinematic cohesion between gameplay and cutscene takes you out of the feeling of playing a game and puts you in the mindset of losing yourself inside another world. The thing is, it's a scary world, and the most terrifying thing about it is the realism. The constant hunt for ammo and supplies keeps you on your toes, making every fight feel like life or death, as it should. The sound design is spectacular and disgusting. Every wail and click from the undead sounds like the most pained and godless noise a human body could make, while the meaty crunches of humans being shot, exploded, or maimed to death really hit you with the impact of a life being ended violently. The bits of lore spread throughout the environment in the form of handwritten letters, graffiti, and NPC dialogue really draws you in, and you start to realize... this world is so believable because it's barren hellscape is so familiar to our own.

Disease, prejudice, hatred, revenge, forgiveness, justice... all the themes imbedded in this game mirror our current reality in a way that is frightening, and may be too much for some players looking for an escape into fantasy, but I found it's ability to challenge the player's viewpoints of right and wrong were incredibly bold and aren't utilized in storytelling too frequently because of the risk of upsetting people.

I decided to write a spoiler-free review, because I feel like most of the people who are being turned away from this game are being mislead. It's not an easy story to process, but the fact that so many people disagree with the choices made makes it feel like a real story, instead of a fan-fiction made to sell copies.

My biggest praise towards the game is the way the story develops characters to the point where they truly feel like real people. In reality, people make drastic choices when acting on emotions. In the first game, we see a man get a second chance at raising a daughter, slowly opening his apocalypse-stained heart back up to be able to feel unconditional love in a way he hasn't since his family was torn away from him. In the end, he has to make the choice to sacrifice her to save mankind... and he can't do it. He instead chooses to sacrifice mankind. He's strong enough to take on the whole world, but not strong enough to sacrifice the one who has become his whole world. This game immediately starts to show you the consequences of that choice.

The themes of this game really hit you with the fact that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. But, when feelings of love, vengeance, anger, and a self-righteous sense of justice are involved, a hundred reactions feel justified by one done against you. There are a handful of different factions in the game, and all of them believe they are fighting for what is right, and inside those factions are individuals with confused loyalties. When it's all broken down, you see that each character builds their own family, and will go against everything they know to protect them or avenge them.

If you play this game, at every twist and turn you will be faced with the crushing reality that every single person has incredible potential for good and evil, and it's all subjective. Everyone is on their own righteous quest, and is the hero of their own narrative.
All love will eventually be lost.
    All life will eventually die.
All morality will eventually be tested.
The Last Of Us explores not only the idea of what might happen to the last of mankind, but what might happen to the last of our humanity.

But it made me cry, so 0/10, me me want shoot bad guys

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For me, it started off at an 8. Halfway through the game it dropped down to a 5, crawled back up to a 6 and right up until the end it stayed there. It ended up a 10. I can't stop thinking about the ending.

It starts out amazing. (Killings included) it was a GREAT move. It takes a nosedive halfway through the game though, and it took me the rest of the game to realize it's narrative function. It's not plain cut and dry, it's a rollercoaster.

So gameplay: It's awesome, just as much as the first game. There are parts of which I would've liked to see way more of (like the open-world bit, turns out it's the only one) and it has some good variations on the old formula throughout the game. It can get pretty tedious after a while though, and due to some narrative choices, it takes a whole lot getting used to halfway through the game.

So the story. As you might have heard it's about revenge. But it actually isn't. It's about the feeling, the gnawing of it, the **** you go through for it, the guilt that sticks, how tiring it is. how it eats you up.

    SPOILERS:
The game does not have a pay-off in a general sense, it's not about getting what you want, it's about finding out that whatever you wanted, isn't what you want anymore. it's about being free from whatever it was that you held on to. The game's boring parts, the tediousness, the endless repetition, combined with genuinely great moments and storytelling, makes for a great platform to a pay-off that no game has ever dared to give.

Naughty Dog's approach is daring, ballsy, hard-fought. It's not a game for everyone because it's not traditional in most senses. It's subtle, it's rough, it's messy and it's a puzzle that fits way too damn well together.

So what I'm trying to say is: It's great, it might not be your cup of tea and that's fine. But the storytelling is amazing. One of the reasons that you might not like it, is because you're not used to the way it's been told. You'd be wrong to assume it's a Hollywood movie covered in ultra-violence.
It's the closest thing to a AAA title with art-house tendencies.

To me, it's one of the first games ever that knows how to manage storytelling within games as a medium in such a sense, that it elevates the medium instead of just copying movies.

This post probably will get buried because of disagreement, but I think it needed to be said. Naughty Dog knows what it's doing and does an amazing job. Don't knock what you don't understand. You don't have to like the game :) I'm heavily impressed and can't wait for part 3.

The best game ever. Maybe it's not what we want, not the path we think the story will follow, but Naughty Dog created a masterpiece, running way from the cliche, telling us the story in a unique way. The gameplay is perfect, character creation and development always the best, this is the game the world's most need in a moment like this. Thanks for this piece of art!

The story is the most sophisticated and symbolic I’ve ever seen. The gameplay is dense, strategic, and intense. The acting is some of the best I’ve ever seen. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. For me, The last of Us Part 2 is a masterpiece. The game / developer studios go with this game unprecedented terra in terms of storytelling and I have never suffered so emotionally after playing through a game and would stimulate thinking as much as here! The last of us is not a happy end universe and you have to face the truth that Joal in the first part with Ellie made huge **** in the end. The story is told grandly here on several levels and from the half with the twist, just wow and brave. But this makes the entire TloU universe so incredibly imersive and believable. The homosexuality of Ellie is already shown in the first part, so if you find that bad, you have to say that you don't like the first part. Most of the bad reviews were created on the day of release and are zero representative for me that the game has a minimum length of over 30 hours of play on the first run. Most people who rated it bad didn't even play the game themselves or stopped after the first few hours, so you can't argue with people on one level because the level of knowledge is not on the same level, so a discussion with such people is perfect senseless, they only let bad YouTube haters pull them along. Much in the world is explained in more detail through dialogues or letters and closes the often criticized "gaps in logic". Since not so intolerant as to sexuality and origin, it doesn't matter what the character likes or where he comes from. This only shows how limited there are still a lot of people in your head, grow up, because the game is only for adults! My only criticism is that the game is too long in the second half, otherwise everything is top Expand

Beware: the game won't do it gently, and that is gonna be the best part of it.
What you'll play is indeed a "real" video game, not an interactive experience, with a smooth gameplay, it will seem familiar since it's similar to the one from the first chapter while improved in every single aspect and extremely fun to play.
I don't think there isn't any need to talk about the graphics, but, if I have to, I'll just say that some little details blew me away and sometimes I even forgot I was playing a video game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The Last of Us part II connects with our most primary instincts, where we are able to connect with someone through simple and natural signs, like their facial expression (something that is extraordinarily real in this game). Thus, we can see that world is not "black-and-white", that our view of "heroes and villains", of "good and evil", is at least childlike.

I am very sad with the amount of negative reviews criticizing the story, and above all, that see the character Abby as a cold killer without emotions.

For me, this game is about our empathic capacity to be in the other's place, and at least to perceive them as a human being like us, subject to stupid and selfish decisions.

The Last of Us part II does something I had never seen in a game, putting ourselves in the shoes of someone we initially despised, and making us see by another perspective. An experience that we could only have playing, controlling the actions, and often feeling guilty about them.

It's not a "light" experience, I felt emotionally exhausted after finishing the game. But the complete experience was something truly impressive and memorable for me. I felt the weight of the decisions I made through the characters.

I really can't understand how someone, after the whole journey, comes to an end and feels "disappointed" by Ellie's final decision. Really? Did you really look at that and want to continue?

In a world of dehumanized characters in "Call of Duty" and alikes, this game is necessary. But unfortunately, not everyone is ready.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

It's a story about revenge and inner change but also a way to understand how important is to understand different points of view, and it's brutal, visceral at a point that you won't have fun playing this, it will shake you with unpredictable plot twists and game design choices.
If there is one thing this game couldn't be described as is 'fan service' and the courage Naughty Dog had with this writing is admirable, they could do a fan service game and still sell millions of copy.
Visually state of the art, with a great minimalistic soundtrack, real life like animations, and unprecedented acting for a videogame, The last of us Part 2 is among the best if not the best game of this generation. Gameplay wise is a step over the first chapter, so very very good.
Any cons? Yes, I experienced like three or four times some minor glitches like wrong hit boxes or compenetrations, I didn't like so much the animations of the character when losing balance before falling down, and personally I'd appreciated the presence of a lock-on system in some circumstance.
Any way If you liked The last of us Part 1 you have to play this sequel, but dont'expect any happy ending, the last of us are not very kind people, in the end.

Even if the story isn´t the way we expected after watching the trailers or replaying the incredible first part, The Last of Us Part II is an amazing game. The graphics, details, facial expressions and just everything is very polished. Even if the gameplay is very similar to the first one, the improvements on the AI makes it a different and more interesting challenge. As I´ve seen, the story, the decision of making almost half of the game to be played as Abby and the ending are the most disliked parts by players. But I really don´t think those decisions are bad, they make you experience the game from a new perspective to show you that there is no villain or hero in this world, just people trying to survive and hoping their loved ones survive as well.
My only "complaint" would be that I think Abby´s part sometimes felt a little dragged and some of the characters in her side of the story weren´t really memorable, but nothing too bad or excessive, I think the ending was justified and a good way to end this story, even if it clearly isn´t a happy ending or anything close to it, since Ellie´s ending is absolutely hearth-breaking.
This game was truly an emotional rollercoaster, filled with amazing and emotional moments that will be in my mind for a long time, as this just became one of my favorite games of all time.

Naughty dog really didn´t lie when they said that some players would love the game and other would hate it. I guess the best way to find out i trying it out for yourself ad making your own opinion about it.

-The fact that The Last Of Us Part should have not been made after Part I 5/10
-Single player/no multi-player 3/10 (but multi-player from Part I gets longevity, sucks when servers shut down)
-Graphics 10/10 (Realistic hair, even when shaved, foliage)

    -Accessibility 100/100
    -Encounters Mode 8/10
    -Pace/game design 10/10 (copy/paste from Part I)

Whats expected from a seven year hiatus:

    -Character introductions/reintroduction 7.5/10 (It's a SEQUEL)
-Character development 9/10 (Its the novelty of the Last Of Us)
-Plot 10/10 (Its a SEQUEL in a supposed trilogy ["hoping for more than 3"])
-Story-telling 10/10 (People will say that some sequences were too long, I have an idea of where subsequent installments might be going, so the drudgery of these long sequences need to and had to establish motif)
-Game mechanics 100/100 The narration of the story dictates the mechanics i.e. the pacing, level design, enemy lay out (they even have Encounters Mode), difficulty controls (how the hell did that get a 4.3/10), interface/character skills and progression is bare, sub-par (Last Of Us novelty, beautiful), all around immersion. Audiences would express an indifference in the narration, especially the flash back and memory sequences, as it may seem like its disconnected and fractured, but it portrays what the characters are going through, to drive their motivations. It's the same portrayal that fan-fare demands in resemblance in video gaming services that might have, in fact, directed the production of this game. But the Last Of Us Part II establishes its own motives that even Naughty Dog won't/can't claim as a motif, as reception of this story driven piece was naturally going to cause a rift in the narratives that would accompany game scores.
-Cult tropes 5/10 (I get it, whatever)
-Trailers 3/10 (But I get the whole fiasco of it)
    -Spoiler culture 1/10
    -"Golf" scene 0/10
    -Conclusion (of a SEQUEL) 10/10
----Character choices 8/10 (tropes in functionality)

After playing Last Of Us Part II 100/100 (For a SEQUEL, its the best made)
But as much as I love video games, I'm more a casual gamer:

    Over-all score: 95/100

The point of The Last Of Us Part II is to maintain development(s).

(I scored it 10, though. When I get the balls I'll jump on Grounded Mode).

You don’t have to like the developing of the story to rate a 30 hours+ game full of great gameplay, incredible animations, and amazing acting. It is a masterpiece even if you don’t like the story. Just because the story isn’t what you expected and wanted, it doesn’t mean that it deserves hate or a 0, a 3 or a 4. How much of an obvious storyline would have been if it was just a new adventure showing all over again the relationship between Ellie and Joel? It is done to show you that, in a post-pandemic world where 3/4 of the population have been decimated, no one is safe, no matter how hard you try to survive. You have to be aware that everything you want to do or to share with your friends, your family or the people you love, you must do it as soon as you can, ‘cause every moment you spend with ‘em, could just be the last one. I was emersed in the world of a post-apocalyptic fungal dystopia full of smugglers, fireflies, infected, Joel, and Ellie. It seems most of the people disappointed with the game are mad at the story of Abby and how to player is forced to play as her and to hunt down Ellie. I honestly dont know why more games do not use this format. A game that forces you to take on both sides to the point where there isn't really a defined protagonist vs antagonist, but instead two conflicting protagonists is unique and hard to accomplish. I heard there were spoilers and leaks before the game came out but I decided to avoid them like the plague. I am so glad I did as I was riveted to my chair for the entirety of the game. While there are a few weak points in the narrative, Naughty Dog raised the bar how the medium of gaming can be used to tell a story in ways film and literature cannot. Part II is an epic lesson on the costs of revenge, the tribalism it creates, and the endless cycle of violence that comes from an inability to move forward when faced with trauma and loss on a personal and communal level. The typical plot devices used to rationalize violence against opposing factions present in most games including Part I are upended by making your enemies all too human. Every person you kill in the game has a name, which makes the act increasingly distasteful as you progress through the story. This game is not for children seeking a canned post-apocalyptic adventure story. It is brave and timely allegory. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I cannot comprehend so much hate for the sexuality matter. Of course, it could have been taken care of more properly, but still that doesn’t need to take away the characters value. Some of them are not so good, but some of them are really good and necessary.

It has some negative points for me, starting from very forced character appearances, and the chats with Ellie and her partners while playing, which seems as if nothing had happened to Joel.

This story lets us know that Ellie and Joel are not the only people who deserve something from the world, it shows us the cost and consequences of what their actions have caused in other people who as them, try to live and survive, defending what they care of. Even though Joel has been the most important character of TLOU, consequences fall upon him, and as painfully as it is to watch and feel, Joel’s ending is fair, because everybody knows that Joel’s would have done the same in a similar scenario.

Abby is the harmful truth that shows us that most of the people we kill in combat are just defending what they care of, that every person we kill had a story, a dream, a family, something humanly relevant to life’s importance. I am not saying there aren’t bad or good people, I’m just saying this game makes us conscious of a world we never see in most of the industry, the other side of things. Showing us how much we didn’t care before and even celebrate when our character has done something horrible, because we didn’t know any backgrounds.

There is a point in the game you start slightly hating Ellie’s actions, who at first had all your support. And it’s normal because they showed us the damage we have done. But still Ellie is heavily impulsive and leads to behaviors that make her look like the Joel with that open wound, with that ferocity, and that relentless way of killing.

In the great ending, Ellie’s not mercy but realizing that forgiving Abby’s life, may in a way
mean finishing to forgive Joel, accepting her actions as the same way as Joel’s.

This game in technical matters it’s perfect. The visuals, soundtrack, and sound are excellently handled. The playability is just something else, being perfectly build and fluid through all the game.
