The Last of Us is my all time favourite game. I love Joel and Ellie and their story. So when I heard Part 2 was coming out I was ecstatic. But then... I saw the spoilers. I was disappointed to say the least. Yet, I still decided to play. I knew the death of Joel was coming, but I was not prepared for him to die like that. I was beyond angry and upset.
When Ellie began her revenge murder spree I was more than happy to help, since I had grown to love Joel, and I too wanted Abby to die a horrible painful death. AND THEN THEY HAD THE AUDACITY TO MAKE ME PLAY AS HER. I didn’t like it but I came to understand her character. The point was to see it all in her perspective.
But as I continued to play, my anger towards Abby and my need for revenge slowly disintegrated into nothingness and I didn’t even realise it.
Hurdle after hurdle, death after bloody death, the moment finally arrived. Yet I didn’t want to kill Abby. Like Ellie, I found that my thirst for revenge ended and I didn’t find the need to kill her.

It didn’t hit me until the end, but Part 2 played me like a fiddle. When I saw the spoilers and watched Joel’s death I wanted nothing more than to get revenge. Yet Part 2 convinced me not too. Having to encounter death after death, I realised revenge is empty. Whether you like it or not, at the end of the game you understand Abby and, like Ellie, begin to grieve Joel properly without being fixated on revenge.

Don't trust the negative review-bombers! They are just wining about the death of Joel, about playing strong female characters and a lesbian love-story (without beeing focused on porn-like sexuality. The gameplay is thrilling, stunning, sometimes shocking brutal, but exciting. It will leave you horrified, scared, and will raise your heartbeat to 180 bpm.

The Last of Us Part II is a hard bit of story to rival. Naughty Dog created TLOU about 7 years ago, putting us through the journey of Joel and Ellie. Naughty Dog created TLOU about 7 years ago, putting us through the journey of Joel and Ellie. We fell in love with those characters and shared their struggles. We felt their loss. We started TLOU2 with hopes that after everything those characters would live happily ever after, but the world of TLOU is dark and rarely ends happily. Without spoilers, TLOU2 faces the uphill battle of making you care about a character that starts off almost irredeemable. In my time with the story, I felt a wide range of emotions for this character and others. When I finally finished the last scene of the game, I was left with the satisfied feeling of a story that felt total, complete, and moving. The game deals with, represents, and successfully addresses topics like sexuality, ideology, and morals that are hard or tense to discuss with ease. It does so in a way that provides a bridge to relate to characters in a way that allows you to overcome their differences and appreciate the ways that they emotionally connect with you as the player.

Gameplay wise, TLOU2 plays a lot like TLOU. The melee combat is more refined and satisfying, and the fighting scenes are most intense and sometimes more chaotic. A few added parts to the gameplay include the ability to manipulate infected interacting or attacking your enemies in an organic way. Exploring the world and it’s secret corners often goes rewarded with lore and loot. There are plenty of fights that are available but not essential to the story as you go.

Graphic and sound quality is outstanding. Naughty Dog pushed the PS4 to its absolutely limit, and it’s an outstanding comparison to games at the beginning of the PS4’s lifecycle until now when we’re approaching its end.

Those who can't get into the plot and can't understand, won't like it. And we must not force it because, for some, it's too heavy.

It's a game for those seeking realistic and intense experiences in video games. It's for those willing to learn about life, able to think about our cruelty, our pain, the pain of the others, and our empathy.

In addition, I must point out that this was the first game that I really felt identified. I'm not saying that this is the only one that discusses race, gender and sexuality, but until now this was, in my opinion, the best. Because it's so natural, unlike many others, and because all the characters are perfectly realistic: no more fragile and weak women! Real women outside of video games are much more Ellie than Princess Peach, and I'm proud of it.

    Thank you, Naughty Dogs.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Fantástica historia y seguimos esperando futuras entregas!!! Expand

I highly recommend Last of Us 2, this was one of the most unique, captivating, and emotional video games I have ever played.

In Last of Us 1, we were given the introduction to this bleak, violent, and turbulent post-pandemic world where human civilization is fractured. In the chaos, we the players get to experience the connection and bond that grows between two distinct characters (Joel and Ellie) leading to an ending that naturally makes most people feel sympathetic of Joel's decision to save Ellie (despite the lives he took to rescue her). It was a brilliant ending.

Coming into Last of Us 2, it's important to realize that while on the surface, the game seems like a continuation of their character arcs (in a darker way), it is about something far deeper than that. In my opinion, the game actually isn't really about Joel and Ellie (or any "character arcs"), but more about asking the ethical questions of human reactions and emotions when put into intensely emotional and bleak situations. It asks you to look beyond any specific person to understand the depth of humanistic emotions and characteristics when faced with tragedy juxtaposed with an apocalyptic environment. It makes you realize, there are no real heroes and villains here, this is about something deeper and it requires you to open your mind to appreciate the bold direction the writers chose to take.

It frustrates me that most people who scored the game poorly and remark on the perceived bad or broken story line, cannot seem to get past the feelings they established about Joel/Ellie from the first game. This is a VERY different game from that one, and with good reason. If the developers and writers tried to make this game be a continuation of the first game, I believe most people would have gotten bored with it. The reality is this is NOT Uncharted, or Star Wars, or a similar type game where you are focused on specific character and relationship arcs and can thus have specific expectations in terms of how they should be portrayed (or how/when to appropriately dispose of a character). I truly believe that the writers wanted you to walk away from this game with an emotional experience and asking ethical questions about the lengths you would go to save, protect, or avenge the people you care about (similar to the first game but on a much grander scale). It's about emotional themes and human character more than any specific character arc. In that way I believe this game is special, unique, and definitely worthy of your time and play through.

Aside from all that, the gameplay is amazing. I absolutely LOVED that there was a custom difficulty option. I played through with all settings on Survivor but resources on Hard. This gave me sufficient resources to approach different combat sequences with variety instead of always having to sneak. I really hope games moving forward consider making custom difficulty settings standardized.

In summary, breath-taking graphics, gritty intense gameplay, and a story that will make you experience emotions and reflect on a wide range of human character traits such as despair, rage, perseverance, and the will to survive when faced with tragedy and impossible situations. It's a game I will never forget and look forward to playing again.

Thank you to the Naughty Dog team for your hard work in making this incredible game! I hope you never give up on making these significant single player experiences in a day and age where some game companies are trending away from single player games. I highly recommend this amazing single player experience! 10/10

The game is simply a work of art, it has a footprint of terror, hate and revenge that makes the player at all times uncomfortable to be playing, always transmitting enormous distress, insecurity, fear and the way that everything happens is incredible. Everything happens at the right time, the game does not sacrifice history at any time, there are also no moments of "sealing" as was speculated by many. The story of the new character Abby is very well constructed, without leaving any loose ends and the game leaves the player on a tightrope, it turns out that there is no way to choose a side of the story to support, however much you love Ellie and Joel, what Abby does is for her principles and in this post-apocalyptic world it ends up being blood for blood. I believe that what happened to Joel was deserved, it hurts me a lot to say that for a character I love so much, but it's the truth. We had new friends like Dina, Jesse and many others, who give us an even deeper connection with Ellie and Abby, showing how similar they are like it or not. I give my most sincere congratulations to Naughty Dog, what they managed to do with this game is no joke. If you played and you may not have understood what the game is really about, I suggest you play again, very calmly, with your head in place, because the feeling of anguish and loneliness that passes to the player is an unbelievable thing.

I'm one of many players who really love 'THE LAST OF US' and the story telling wasn't bad. Actually, it's quite good.
But I preferred to have more happy in the end. I really love Ellie and I wish there's harrier Ellie even she lose Joel.
At least let Ellie and Dena stay together in the end. What I want to tell you is .. in final part of the game, the situation that Ellie chose to leave

I think many of players want to choose by themselves which way they want to go.. leave Dena and family for revenge Abby or stay with Dena.
Because I think many of us think that Ellie should leave bad memories behind and start over again before things get too late.
Because in the end, the things I saw is very lonely and too sad for me and really feel pity for Ellie too.
Don't get my opinion too serious but I wish the game go this way, the way that players chose their result.
    thank you so much.

Ellie loses her way in not handling grief well, just like a real human. It's heavy, it's dark, but that is refreshing after a decade of neatly tied up stories where everyone gets their happy endings. There are so many character moments in the game to share without spoiling much of it, so let me describe one of my favourite scenes in the game. Here Ellie finds a guitar in an old abandoned building and starts playing an acoustic version of Take on Me. It's a stark contrast to all the terrors you just endured in post-apocalyptic Seattle.

If you ever find the time, I would highly recommend both The Last of Us and this sequel. Ignore all the hate out there and experience the game on your own terms! #naughtydog #thelastofuspartII #sony #ps4pro

I understand the anger people feel towards multiple keymoments in the story. It's a truly unique game in the way the story is told and I don't think it's told in the best way possible. However I appreciate what they tried to accomplish. The problem is that I didn't always feel the way I knew they wanted me to feel.

To me this is a unique experience that made going through the game rough at times but I like to think of myself as en open-minded person and I've always wanted to play a game that featured a true anti-hero because I'm tired of all the games where you get to be the hero or villain. This is something else. You're neither the hero nor the villain. You're just going through the story of people in a world that's gone to sh*t. You may not agree with what happens in the story or you may not feel satisfied with the events in the story and I think this is where they tried to do a similar thing as they did in the first game in a different way and it just doesn't work the same way.

*spoiler warning for the first game*
At the end of the story Joel goes on a manic rampage instead or saving the human race and undoes everything you've been working towards the entire game and dooms the entire population by doing so. As a player you folow the story and have no say in the decision that Joel makes. Eventhough this rampage is completely immoral and unethical in every possible way, you understand where Joel is coming from because the entire game builds up to this moment and this is what makes the story of the first game so memorable.

This time they tried to switch it around and try something unique and this makes your mind conflict with your feelings. It's a true experience of morality in it's greyest forms and a critical look at the cycle of violence. It's an ambitous project and it might not be for everyone. If you just want to feel like a badass hero saving the world and mindlessly blow up people without having to deal with the consequences, you should probably skip this game and play something else. There are a lot of games out there that do not deal with the darker side of violence and war.

I can't help but feel like all games that tried this in the past have been criticized for pushing an agenda while also celebrating the violence they condemn. It might be very hypocritical for a game to do this, but by showing two sides of the coin you can actually nuance the celebration of violence and focus on the morality and meaning of it all. I think this games does exactly that and it might not always feel right or wrong, but I think that's part of the experience you'll have with this game.

An amazing, just amazing story. This is a game that makes you think and that makes you feel. There were parts where I was so disgusted by what the game forced me to do that I had to put away the controller for a while. You get to dive deep into the characters which makes everything they do and everything they feel that much more impactful. While the game never gives you any choice of what to do (just like first game), it doesn't serve up a simple picture either. It really forces you think, to consider for yourself what/who's right/wrong. It's an exhausting, but rewarding, storyline that would have made the creators of KOTOR 2 proud.

The graphics are simply stunning, as good as it gets on the PS4. Especially the motion capture which really makes the character models come alive.

    +/-
Gameplay is mostly on par with the first game, though it's been enhanced. Still, more could have been done here to refine it. Gunfights are still a bit awkward.

    -
Overreliance on cutscenes and flashbacks. There were stretches of the game when things really got a bit tedious. I get what the devs are trying to convey with a certain cutscene of flashback gameplay sequence, but they really could just shorten it and let you get back to actually playing.

Some of the mini-games (notably the ones involving a guitarr) were also a bit tedious.

    TLDR:
This is one of the single greatest games, or even experiences, ever created. Seriously, you will not regret buying this game.

Though if you're a bigot and you don't want any more nuance in your storylines then what you get in an episode of MLP, this game is probably not for you.

I can't promise that everyone who plays The Last Of Us Part 2 will love it as the game has proved to be very divisive, however I have found the game to defy every expectation I held. The story is a truly bitter, despondent and horrifying revenge tale that builds engaging characters only to tear them apart and put them through utter hardship. Emotional trauma, grief, moral redemption, violence and vengeance are all themes encompassed by the nuisanced story.

Furthermore, the story is enhanced by gruesome, nasty gameplay that is weighty and down-to-earth. Each bullet feels powerful and destructive, and the brilliant display of gore with each headshot only accentuates the force behind each shot. The player can choose to sneak past enemies, pick them off with deadly precision or to rush headfirst into enemies and engage in gunfight. No matter which playstyle you prefer, each is made viable through the diverse range of weapons and trinkets at your disposal.

Wyoming, Seattle and the other locations which the player visits throughout the games 25 hour run-time are intricately animated. The breathtaking visuals are not only pure eycandy, but each location is also geographically accurate and mirrors its real life counterpart. It is awesome witnessing the decay of manmade infrastructure as nature restores itself throughout the city and pervades each building. However, there is a dramatic change in scenery with each level, giving each encounter it's own style and mood. For example, in one mission Ellie will be exploring the dank, and creepy, underground subway that is now host to deranged and grotesque Infected, however in the next level our heroine will be wading through the swampy marsh of what was once a freeway.

SUMMARY - The Last Of Us Part 2 is a fantastic game with a heartbreaking story, breathtaking visuals and horrifying gameplay. Naughty Dog have sustained their position as a top-tier video game developer with this installement in the TLOU franchise, and although there seems to be many games coming later this year from promising developers, I struggle to see how they could match the brilliance of this masterpiece.

Stupid of me, but I find them mostly forced and in there just for the PC likes. This is not the case in this game, I had just as much fun playing as the females in this game as I did playing Kratos or Arthur Morgan, they were **** brutal. The graphics are the best I’ve ever seen in a game. I am a PC gamer first and foremost, and this tops RDR2 for me in that department. Easily the best character animations in gaming, just unreal. You can tell the hours that went into this, it’s extremely polished from top to bottom.

The story threw me throughout and I enjoyed the multiple character aspect, particularly how it played into the story. I won’t spoil but I liked this story more than the first Last of Us.

Gameplay was sick, lots of variation on how you can attack the encounters throughout. Just such a brutal game, having just come from playing God of War I was not suspecting this to make me react more than that with how cool and just **** up some of the kill animations are in this, particularly when I died. All in all, having played games for 20+ years now this game would comfortably sit in my top 5 comfortably alongside Red Dead 1, Assassins Creed 2, God of War and Witcher 3.

    Spoiler Free section:

Regardless of this game not being what fans wanted, It's unfair to call is a bad game. It's a strong story with complex characters and despite how depressing the game is, it doesn't make it a bad game. Naughty Dog focused on making a great game, not a good game. Great and good are not interchangeable. Bad people like Hitler and Stalin can be considered Great, but in no way are they good, in fact they are terrible. That's how this game hits, as a game that is very selective in who likes it, but overall is a great game in general.

    Spoilers:

One of the biggest problems with this games ending is that people can't really understand it well, which is understandable but before writing a negative review because your favorite character died and you didn't like the ending, maybe try to dissect it, ask why, and look for hope in the end because there definitely is some that many people missed.

Starting from the beginning, Joel sings to Ellie with an emphasis on the phrase, "If I ever were to lose you, I'd surely lose myself. Unfortunately this happens to Ellie and this whole story is about how she loses herself to try to avenge Joel's death. There is a scene right after Ellie tortured Nora when she is crying partly because of what she has done but then she tells Dina, "I don't want to lose you." This is the moment that Ellie realizes that losing Dina is a real possibility if her revenge continues.

Moving forward to the end of the game, Ellie tracts down Abby and has her drowning underwater. Instead of ending her life, she pictures Joel playing the guitar and stops (Important for later). At this point we don't know why she lets Abby live and we get even more angry at the game. Then they show that Dina and her baby left Ellie and that Ellie really did lose everything in fact, she can't even play the guitar anymore.

Finally, we know that Ellie let Abby go, not for Abby and Levi sake, but for the sake of herself. If she really went through and ended Abby's life she realizes it would no make a difference, but more importantly, Ellie would 'surely lose herself'. Showing the scene where Ellie wants to forgive Joel is moment when Ellie spared Abby and this is because Ellie wanted didn't want to give in the the violence and completely become what Joel had become, what she couldn't forgive because then how could she expect Dina to understand. This is Ellie last grasp on her once sassy sarcastic 14 year old self and she is able to stop herself. the game ends with Ellie leaving the farm and (probably) going to look for Dina and JJ now that she has a small piece of herself to give, she hopes that Dina might someday forgive her like she decided to to with Joel.

And in terms of Joel’s death, it isn’t a plot hole or bad writing. It’s literally the culmination of Joel growing older, and more peaceful while still having darkness in his past. Joel was a mass murderer and hardly a hero. All in all, TLOU2 is a great next step from the first installment and I can’t wait to see what Naughty Dog has next. Expand

Not game but rather a journey! We see a fearless man whom we controlled with joy back in 2014, now whittled down to someone who is terrified.. Not of the world or monsters around him but rather terrified of a little girl. His girl, someone whom without life itself ceases to exist. We see a girl growing into a woman fighting the parental love the same way we all have once upon a time. It isn’t until tragedy/karmic justice, whatever YOU call it, strikes. When she herself realizes life without that love isn’t a life at all. So instead she attempts to fill that void with hate, in a journey that teeters us along the same knives blade used to slit the throats of the many “foes” along the way. All while as we the player from an outside perspective begin to realize the wasted life and love being bleeding out into the streets or snow for the joys of hate and revenge. It is here where the games beauty lies. Never as a gamer have I been halted from a bloodlust to ponder “are these people deserving of the wrath I bring” (mind you I speak on the npc’s not the core group you hunt) for 10 hours of the game I said yes and never looked back as I hacked limbs, caved skulls, and incinerated flesh. But upon the tonal shift (that I admit hating and even growing weary of at first.) I found my mind being re programmed as I realized in this world everyone has a reason for blood, everyone has a reason to hate. It’s only those that move on that find peace. (At least their own form) Those that seep down into the sunken darkness of their pain will never float again, will never feel whole and will lose EVERYTHING in the process. The 2nd half of the game tested me. (In many ways.. emotionally, pacing, tonal shift) but once I embraced it I found as a firefly might say “the light in the dark” As a man who is nihilistic in nature I found hope for the first time as I wanted peace for all parties involved. Until the men whom I idolized reminded me what was lost (Tommy is a constant reminder) then I was yet again geared to fight for what I believed in and what I believed in was hate.. then it ended. Where did my hate leave me? With nothing.. sitting in the water on screen and sitting with my jaw open in my room, I couldn't help but smile because inside of me a small portion of peace grew. I knew now it was over and my character could stop fighting and embrace what comes next. I was proud of her! But it was to late, everything was already lost. Even if she for filled her set quest of hate and revenge it still would have ended here. Alone, lost, on the road to fill that void. Except this time knowing hate will never fill it. She may never forget what happened but she has at least come to terms with it... Any game that can make me wage war within my mind and heart is a goddamn masterpiece. Stop comparing and let this game exist in its own right... It’s only then you can respect and open yourself up to something truly moving. Graphics 10/10. Story 9/10
    Gameplay 10/10
    Characters 8/10
Final notes. Only thing that actually upset me was the length of the final location and group. That setting was what it feels like to chew 5 gum. It was a refresh much needed! It came and went like me on a one night stand... not to mention the final group “Rattlers” were one of the most interesting introductions to not only the series story but a great spin on many other things such as how you approach gameplay and how this series can still surprise and grow even in its last hour. They deserved more! I’m still craving more. Imagine having to raid compounds of cannibals like “the walking dead’s” terminus or compounds like the soldiers in “28 days later”. That’s how this last hour made me feel and that’s what I hope to see MORE of in the inevitable sequel. The original will always warm me and make someone lost find a way to open up for love, all while shutting out and down anything necessary to preserve it. It moved me like a Cohen brother film while questioning my morality. This sequel instead took Ellie’s blade and gutted me to look inside my character. Be ready, if you allow it you may learn a bit about yourself.

I thought this game was wonderful. Fun, engaging and very brutal. Reminded me of a Young adult novel mixed with There Will Be Blood. Best game I've played in a long time.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
