Sucks that he died but I guess it happened and it turned out to be not as bad as i thought. The ending was a bit disappointing though, especially how the game just ends and you are left on The Farm with nothing. The game was overall really good actually a lot better than I expected after I saw the leaks. I hope there's another part because this was really good and I want a continuation. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game was a 10 /10. My initial play through was on survival difficultly and with all the exploring i did it took me about 46 hours. I enjoyed every second of it. First i want to say I haven't even bothered watching any of the slander against last of us 2 from these R***** ass youtubers because its getting all these kids, who haven't even played the game giving such strong opinions they're starting to sound like the sjw **** they're "fighting against". In no way did the game make me gay or push any agenda on me other than to slaughter the **** out of everyone for revenge. abbys part of the story was amazing and it was an interesting point of view. spending the whole first half the game killing all these people only to learn who everyone is in the 2nd half was really interesting. and you learn who abby is and why she has spent like her whole life since her dad died bulking up just waiting for the day. so in a way she wanted and deserved her revenge more than ellie. so im happy the way it ended. i really dont know why everyone expected a happy ending like this whole series hasn't been video game game of thrones with the way people die and sad **** happens. IF YOU ARE ON THE FENCE OR ENJOYED THE FIRST GAME PLAY THIS GAME.. The game play itself is improved in every way from the first game and as much as i love it i dont know if i could go back with all the missing features. my biggest and maybe only complaint is lack of multiplayer because the fist game had something special. with the new elements like jumping and prone i could see it being even crazier so hopefully it comes soon. this game is something everyone should experience its a true emotional roller coaster. People disapointed for the most stupid things I ever heard in my life. "The intro is bad, the ending is bad, the story is bad...", the only answer to these people is: what game have you played? The intro was one of the greatest shock ever received, the story is fascinating, diverse and complex, and the ending gave the protagonist a shine oh hope for her future. What do you people wanted? To play as Joel for 20 hours and for him to die in the end saving Ellie? You all need to grow. Best game I played in years, without a doubt one of the best experience in the gaming world, at least in the top 10 of all time, and I don't meant for me, but in general. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. It's been a few days since I finished this heart-wrenching, emotional assault of a game. I've noticed that the largest complaints of my fellow players focus on the story, which is, without doubt, one of the driving elements of the game. I would like to focus on that, so I'll get the other parts out of the way as quickly as possible.

The gameplay is a tremendous improvement over the original. More open-ended segments avoid the pitfalls of the traditional Naughty Dog 'hallway shooter,' the gunplay feels more responsive, the melee hits a great balance of easy to learn/hard to master, and the combat all-around feels as tense as it should in a survival game. The graphics are stunning, and post-infection Seattle feels like one of the most fully-realized post-apocalyptic worlds ever created. The in-game artifacts contribute to awesome worldbuilding a create a truly spooky atmosphere. The acting is impeccable. The sound design and editing are flawless. Someone still plays Hotline Miami on the PS Vita. The list goes on. These elements alone make the game worth playing.

    And then there's the story.

The best tl;dr I can give is that everyone will feel differently about it, and everyone should play it for themselves to determine where they fall. Love it or hate it, it's unquestionably provocative, and I applaud the writers for their willingness to take risks in such a widely-anticipated AAA game.

Many of these risks pay off. Some of them don't. I think, like Red Dead Redemption 2, this game's reputation will change with a year of retrospect.

There's a problem with, as a reviewer, calling anything a "poor story." This is a subjective qualification, but so is everything related to a review. I personally enjoyed the story, and I can see where people didn't enjoy it. I don't think, however, that calling a story "bad" because it evoked feelings of rage, anger, and sadness makes a story "bad" at all, especially if it intended to stir those emotions in the first place. Thus, in line with what I understand about criticism, the far more productive question is: "does this game succeed at what it's trying to do?" The Last of Us 2, for the most part, does succeed, but not quite as well as its predecessor.

The Last of Us, as a game, basically caught lightning in a bottle. It brought life and humanity to a dead and dehumanized world by exploring the father-daughter relationship between Ellie and Joel. From the game's opening moments, we empathize with Joel and his loss, which contributes to and grounds the remarkable ambiguity of the game's all-time-classic ending. By balancing love and hate, it had a perfect balance of ups and downs.

The Last of Us 2 is a relentless downer. The first game thematically focused on unconditional love and how that's both wonderful and sometimes downright horrifying. The second game is a revenge tale through and through. In the end, it tries to teach us that empathy is the most human characteristic we have. There are some truly powerful moments that capture what we're capable of when we forget that the people we hurt are human, just like us. It hurts to be confronted by it so brutally.

The biggest criticisms I've seen relate to "plot holes," "poor writing," and "poor characterization," all of which are terms that (no offense) people most often throw around to try to validate their feelings without doing consistent logical work. These also happen to be non-issues that, when overly explicated, completely undermine the artistic merit and intrinsic value of something being criticized. None of the characters in TLOU2 remain static. The dialogue is fluid and at times mind-blowingly good (I've tried to write dialogue--it's not easy!). And plot holes? I'll just encourage you to google "film crit hulk plot holes" and point out that they're not as huge a deal as you think. I digress. There are many moments throughout where the game succeeds incredibly at making the player feel what it wants the player to feel. If the general response is any indication, though, it just barely misses the mark. I don't think we spend enough time with Abby to care about her in the ways that the writers wanted us to. What makes this statement interesting, though, is the fact that Abby's segment is nearly as long as the entire first game.

The first game had an unforgettable cold open, and that's a big part of where the first game succeeded in its opening minutes with Joel. I think this game would have benefitted from placing us in control of Abby's first two flashback sequences from the start. Instead, we get placed in the shoes of a mystery character, and it doesn't do much for the tension during Ellie's segment. Abby also never reveals her core motivation to Ellie, which undermines what should have been her character's catharsis during the story's climax. Purposefully withheld information doesn't drive a story forward, and I'd say that's TLOU2's biggest flaw.

And yet I still loved it, and that's that.

The gameplay is excellent, the characters feel real, and the world the game presents is a brutal reflection of just how low humanity can sink when we are pushed to our extreme limits. There is a lot of symbolism and story elements to dissect that will have fans talking for years, and for me that's a sign of some truly effective artistry. I understand why some fans are upset, but I truly do believe after some more time has passed people will understand what this game set out to do and just how excellent it is when you really allow it to be. Graphically it's 10/10, new generation graphics and big improvement from The Last of Us 1. The animations were so good and very detailed.

About the story goes well until it reaches a point that becomes very long until the end. The game should have ended so much before, this doesn't mean is bad but the game should be shorter.

The final, well, I personally not liked at all, the real final should be in the Ellie vs Abby on the theatre when Abby lets Ellie and Dina lives. After that Ellie still wants revenge so years later he goes back to kill Abby in Santa Barbara. Again nobody dies, this time Ellie spares Abby's life, it's not logical at all but can be accepted because Ellie can forgive too.

General conclusion: I really enjoyed the game, such a beautiful game, I don't give it a 10/10 for that too long story and ending that left me with a strange taste in my mouth.

But however i loved the game even though its probably not really the best game ever made but i reviewed it 10/10 to even out the score. I loved the story even though Joel died, and the ending to me was not really disappointing. I felt like it was better that Ellie finely after all these hours understood.

The gameplay to me was like the first game but that really didn't mattered to me because i bought the game for the story. So to me this was a really good game and I will probably play it over again to aim for the platinum trophy.

Sai da superficialidade e se arrisca humanizando os personagens com erros e falhas, porém faz isso de uma forma condizente e compreensível. I have never thought of Naughty Dogs games as an achievement in writing. The Uncharted games and even the first Last of Us has never done anything ground breaking in telling a story. The love the first game gets confused me because it was a solid story but it didn’t do anything exceptional. TLOU2 is by far the boldest take in story telling and that reflects by the hate it has received. Again I don’t think ND are geniuses in their writing ability but I do appreciate this take in this case. The duality of holding two opposing forces as a single truth is exceptionally difficult to convey and the fact that only 5% of the population can even do this shows why people have review bombed this game. The game requires you to have an open mind which was a risk they took because most people simply do not have this ability. And for that I applaud ND in doing this because it truly subverted expectations in a clever way unlike some other properties (The Last Jedi). The game is a must play despite some writing missteps in areas of the story — the story itself is excellent in how they wanted to tell it. Expand

As someone who considers the original Last of Us game the best game I've ever played, for multiple reasons; Story, game-play, and Immersion; This review is hard to write.

The game-play in The Last of Us Part II was incredible. The improvements to the user interface, the amount of craft-able materials, the behavior of the AI characters, and the level of detail in terms of level design are outstanding. I found myself very immersed in the world, worried about the enemies spotting me. The simple addition of being able to go prone and adding higher levels of vegetation to double as "cover" for the player is genius. I felt like the things i had issues with in the first game such as loosing too many arrows to them breaking, were alleviated. I find that I get more of a feel of "I don't have enough resources to build what i want to build or to get across this field of enemies". Whereas in the first game, if you took the time to search around and loot the nearby buildings, you'd find yourself full on nearly all materials. I consistently felt more immersed in the world as I would audibly cheer when i found that pair of scissors I needed to craft another set or arrows or that final container piece to craft another silencer.

In terms of story, I just don't think it holds up to the original game. HOWEVER: I do not think this game tarnishes the great reputation the first one created. As Neil Druckman said in one of his interviews pre-release of this game: The last of Us was a game about love, Part II is all about hate. I understand what other players mean when they complain about not having the "option" to make important choices in the game, but I firmly believe that in a world such as the The Last of Us, those decisions are necessary in order to survive, I do think the story would be more compelling if it was told in a different order, as you jump around in the timeline of the main characters' lives fairly often, but I can overlook that.

Overall, what I can say about this game is this: I waited nearly 7 years to play the sequel to my all-time favorite game, and I can confidently say I had a great time. While the story isn't quite up to par compared to the previous title. I truly believed that Naughty Dog captured lightning in a bottle, and to expect them to create that same feeling twice is asking a little much. The Last of Us Part II is meant to show you that even in a world post-apocalypse, there is no black or white when it comes to morality. Every person makes good decisions and terrible decisions, but it's up to you to understand that hate only creates more hate, and revenge will only get you so far.

This game will make you think about your actions, and shows you the consequences for making them.

    ***OVERALL REVIEW 8/10***

    *******SPOILERS AHEAD********

The Last of Us Part 2 continues the story of Joel and Ellie. And I can say that it is a worthwhile sequel that not only continues the story that was started in the first game but expands upon it. The story of this game isn't perfect, it leaves me mostly satisfied with a slight sour taste in my mouth. The choice to brutally murder Joel works, but left me a little disappointed to see Naughty Dog remove such a crucial character especially after seeing the leaks. I would've liked to have seen a little less of a predictable revenge quest. But once you understand the reason for his death it all ties together with the first game near perfectly. I would've liked to have seen a little more mourning from the characters in this game rather than jumping right into the action. This choice can feel quite abrupt and can feel like they were rushing into the rest of the story. Although I was a little unmoved at this choice I found myself near tears at how emotional some scenes are. The death of Joel felt impactful and disturbing in a way that sticks with you and it is shown through Ellie in her relentless journey for revenge. This makes you look at yourself, and makes you think about how far you would go for the ones you love and how much you are willing to lose. Towards the start of the game you are quickly introduced to Abby who feels dangerous and mysterious as you question her intentions. Quickly some of those questions are answered as she brutally murders Joel in front of Ellie. But after this event you immediately are brought a slew of new questions about Abby that keep you attached to your controller trying to grasp at what the answers may be. This tension effectively runs through the first half of the game when you play as Ellie accompanied by Dina and later on Jesse. But this tension feels slightly ruined when you hit a climax and are forced to play as Abby which you were hunting down for most of the first half of the game. This choice made me a little annoyed hoping the next act would move back to Ellie but this doesn't happen till about the last hour of the game. I wish Naughty Dog would've used this time to have you play as Ellie and show you Abby's crucial moments. This feels especially painful when you are forced to play as Abby beating the sh*t out of Ellie and a pregnant Dina. Although this choice is a little frustrating it is effective in telling you Abby's side of the story and showing you that there really is no bad guy in this story, and that this isn't just a revenge quest for Ellie. By the end of this game when the credits rolled I found myself wondering and hoping for some sort of sequel or continuation of this story that gave me a little more closure even though this game ends on a good note leaving you with most questions answered and a large over arching lesson that is explored through this entire game. Many may find this game intensely violent to a point that you may need to look away. But every moment of violence feels justifiable and appropriate when looking at how harsh this world is and what most of these characters have been through, and what they must do in order to survive. This isn't a game for the faint of heart. Moving to the characters, I found most of them understandable and relatable especially those connected to Ellie and Abby. Naughty Dog does an impressive job exploring every character. For example, learning about Dina's relationship with religion, when interacting with completely optional story moments. These moments and things like notes spread throughout the world, and optional conversations help build a more believable and relatable world. Moving to combat, it is greatly improved in comparison to the first game that it builds upon. Ellie (and Abby) can go prone crawling through grass and hiding from enemies and stealthily taking them out. Melee combat is also greatly improved with a dodge button making combat feel more expansive yet intense. You also have a large arsenal of gear that gets larger as you progress through the story. Ellie and Abby can also move more efficiently through combat and the world moving more easily with a jump button and being able to squeeze through small spaces. Lastly I would like to bring up how impressive the visuals are in this game. Looking at each environment is a different experience, there is meticulous detail in every area. No space looks the same as another. Looking at every environment feels like you are one step away from being there in person.

In conclusion, The Last of Us Part 2 is a gripping experience that continues the story of Ellie and expands upon the world of The Last of Us in new ways and tells a memorable story that is definitely worth checking out for new and old fans.

I think that this game has excellent graphics. No doubt about it, but i dont know why is everyone hating it so much. I know that everyone was looking forward to play as Joel and Abby killed Joel in the second hour of the game but they make you play as her and you can see her past and story of why did she kill Joel. Maybe there could be more about her past, not just 15 minutes, but at least for me she is a good character and i understood her why did she do that. And Joel was the one who killed her father.

Lets talk about the end of the game:
If I was Ellie, i would not listen to Tommy and i would not try to kill Abby again. She had a family. But ok, understandable. She traveled to find her and thats what happened. And there, in my opinion, should be a chance to make your decision, if you want to kill her or not. I dont know what you would do, but i would have troubles making this decision.

Dont hate me for my opinion but i dont know why are people mad at the story, the last of us part 2 is not perfect i just dont think this game deserves such a hate.

Gameplay is top notch and, while the story is very grim, the performances and characters carry it. If you know anything about this game, you’ll know it’s extremely decisive. The biggest factor on whether you’ll like this game is if you go into it with an open mind and let the game ask you some uncomfortable questions. P.S. This game isn't perfect. But it's close. I didn't like the controls when combat got busy, and the graphics on certain characters didn't seem to be as high quality as the main cast.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a flawed masterpiece that I think will go down in history as a daring and defining moment in gaming.

First of all this is a 20+ hour game that got review bombed on the day of release. You can pretty much throw out any review dated June 19th (the day it came out), good or bad. Any review that gives this game under a 5/10 because of “plot holes” is also an absolute joke. This game isn’t notable for its plot holes, it’s notable for the surprising direction the narrative takes and some narrative choices that fans won’t like.

So many people are reviewing this game based on what they wished the story would be, not what it actually is. I don’t agree with the backlash against this game, but I definitely get it. Look, Joel is a great character and Troy Baker’s voice and motion performance is one of the best in gaming history. His voice has that weary gravitas that fits in perfectly to the post-apocalyptic setting.

Like many people, I hated Abby in the beginning of the game (how can you not!?), disliked her at the start of her chapter, and grew to find her a very compelling character. Did I love the story from start to finish? No I felt it dragged in the middle, particularly in parts of Abby’s campaign. Nevertheless, this game contains incredible world building - Seattle, Santa Barbara. Now the world has been expanded we can see how this story could continue for another decade of games. There’s so much more to this world than the world of The Last of Us part 1: rival factions the WLF, the Seraphites ("scars”); the survivors in Jackson, Wyoming; little **** head gangs like the Rattlers; hints at a possibly rebuilt Fireflies. The Last of Us told a tighter story; TLOU2 lays the groundwork for an entire world.

The gameplay plays like a true sequel: it builds on the mechanics of the first one with even more variety of weapons to craft, new mechanics like crawling, and different upgrade trees for the two main characters. The guitar playing is pretty neat too! The graphics and sound design are incredible; a perfect send-off for this generation of console games.

Even those who don’t love the plot have to admit (if they actually played the game through) that this has some of the most incredible gaming moments ever. I won’t give too many details away, but there’s a scene where Joel takes Ellie to Wyoming Museum, and it was one of the most incredible scenes I’ve ever seen in a game.

The game also does a masterful job of introducing compelling characters. Jesse, Dina, Abby, Owen and Lev are all fantastic new characters - many of whom could figure into possible sequels. You may hate Abby in the beginning but I bet you won’t by the end! In fact there's too much story and too many new characters to appreciate in one playthrough; this game’s depth would lend itself to multiple playthroughs.

The game isn’t perfect. It’s a bit too long in parts, the plot drags a bit around the middle before picking up again towards the end. As pointed out in reviews, you do develop "kill fatigue" by the end - obviously intentioned by designers but it's still real. The dissonance between your characters' realizations that revenge and killing is a cycle that goes on forever unless you change and grow, vs. the fun mechanics of mowing down a room of bad guys with guns and explosives - I don’t know how to grapple with that one.

You could also say the gameplay mechanics aren't different enough from TLOU part 1, but then again think of the development across four Uncharted games; the improvements in TLOU2 are pretty solid for a direct sequel.

So, looking back on the game - as I was wrapping up the campaign, in a sense I was pushing forward, exhausted, trying to finish the game. But once it was over, and Ellie was playing her guitar (or trying to at least), I couldn’t wait to experience the story again.

Gameplay, graphics, sound, and story are among the finest gaming experience I've ever had. While the story is certainly decisive amongst fans, the characters are complex and layered, and their morally grey decisions feel true to the world they're living in. It's not the story I think a lot of us would have written for a Part II, but by the end I realized it's the story I wanted. It's not the story I think a lot of us would have written for a Part II, but by the end I realized it's the story I wanted. A character driven narrative where the motivations don't feel like they're just there to move the plot along, but rather are real decisions being made by real people who have experienced real loss, and they're slowly coming to terms with the real consequences of their actions.

The Last Of Us was already my favorite game of all time, a game I avoided for the longest time because of the worn-out zombie apocalyptic setting, but by the end I realized was one of the realest stories I'd ever experienced. Part II just solidified it's place as some of the best story telling I've ever experienced in any medium.

One things for sure, it ain’t for everyone, I totally get why people like and don’t like this game. For sure it’s an ambitious game and sequel that has quite some balls and creative freedom the creators had, and I really appreciate that. But it could have been a bit better, with a restructure and certain scenes placed in different spots, and maybe some of Abby’s flashbacks cut out, this game would have been dramatically improved, I think. It might be naughty dog’s weakest game by far. But aside from that, I enjoyed it, I could play it again and I totally get why people don’t like it. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The last of us part II is brave. And it does not risk in vain. The game starts with the usual magnificent perspective, that of Joel and Ellie, the protagonists of the first chapter. From the graphics, to the shooting system, to the ruined setting that highlights the beauty of nature, every clash is breathtaking, every twist unpredictable, the certain motivation is perfectly conveyed by Naughty Dog, with that death of Joel that is not at all dignified, it's not what we would have liked, but this is the strong point of the scene. We're angry at everyone and everything and we have the strength to move on. But when Abby enters the theater, then everything changes. We go over to the side of a character who pushes us to empathise. If the aim had been to make us love or almost love that character, then the story would have had to unfold in a different way: a comfortable pretty girl, a story from the beginning that leads us to the not-so-brutal killing of Joel. However, The last of us is an uncomfortable product: not by what we want, it doesn't seek ephemeral success, but transcends the game dimension making Abby's one (big) parenthesis to open up another perspective. So that we can question ourselves, without distinguishing right from wrong. At the end of this journey the loss of the two fingers is very heavy for Ellie: on the one hand it's negative, because she abandons the guitar and Joel, on the other side of the coin however (and this is the recurring theme) abandoning Joel means to forgive him (true founding theme of the adventure) and go on. Towards a new light. And also Abby is looking for a new light, together with Lev and after completing his journey of redemption.

The last of us part 2 in short is a product that transcends consumerism, and even if not the poignant narrative beauty of the first, manages to reach extraordinary emotional heights, almost a Picasso painting with a fourth dimension in the first battle between Abby and Ellie.

It's uncomfortable, and devastating. It's not what the boorish vulgar, superficial consumer wanted, but an intimate transcription of how things went after the first, the only way they could go, as if they had written themselves. Making this The last of us Part II is the perfect complementary PART of the first chapter, and it is a title that paints in a shocking way, opening a new level of depth in the videogame world, a glimpse of both inner and outer reality. This work is and will remain great precisely because it has been evaluated in a divisive way, there are those who love it and those who hate it, but it leaves no one indifferent. (free version) H

This game must be played to truly understand it. There's a lot of context needed, the journey in it's entirety is an amazing experience and an emotional roller coaster. Yes, some events will make you mad, but that doesn't mean the game isn't worth. The game isn't for everyone, but I feel sorry for those who let the leaks keep them from playing it. The game does not deserve this amount of backlash, it is true that the false marketing campaign for Joel absolutely sucked but looking at the game story objectively without fan boy views it is actually a masterpiece

Love this game. The design and the environment were beautifully done. The difference options in the game on how you what to play was interesting. The only complaint I have is the story.

This game topped Part 1 for me.
Probably the best game and story this year!

Every man for himself and hunted by the demons of the past.
There are neither good nor bad people in this world, just survival and revenge.

And the only reason I just now created this account is so that I can raise this game up from the embarrassing user score it has now. It really is an 10/10 game.

Já joguei o primeiro game da série, e estava ansioso para a continuação. Não me desapontou em nada o segundo game.
História sensacional, jogabilidade ok, tudo atendeu as minhas expectativas.
    Super recomendo esse game.

I don't get why some people hate the game. Is it because the ending is not like what they expected? Or they are just fans of Joel? I loved the game a lot. I would say it's the best video game I ever played

I honestly have no idea what the hell people are talking about saying the story is bad or the game play mechanics are somehow lacking. This game is phenomenal, bar bone. I've enjoyed it so and, while U know it will take baby years to develop, i am excited about three possibility of a TLOU3.

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
