The narrative is incredibly ambitious and I for one am glad that they didn’t copy and paste the Joel and Ellie story from the first game to create a crowd pleaser but instead something much more divisive.

The scar Island segment is one of the best set pieces I have ever witnessed in a video game, the graphics are outstanding, the voice acting is impeccable and the relationship between Lev and Abby really drew me in.

Fleshed out characters, vastly improved gameplay mechanics, incredible visuals, 25-30 hours of game. Will be remembered as one of the greatest games ever created in due time.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Finally- A sequel that lives up to its hype.

Fans have been waiting for a sequel to Naughty Dog's poignant story about two people's quest for survival for quite some time now. The Last of Us received massive critical acclaim and won several awards for its story and gameplay.
To many (myself included) it felt like a standalone masterpiece since it was wrapped up so neatly. Lots of people disliked the idea of a sequel to this game and with good reason- sequels are often huge letdowns simply because they get crushed under the heavy expectations on top of them. But this game not only lives up to its predecessor but also outperforms it.

The Last of Us 2 starts with a major character death that immediately raises the tension. Playing a game in which major characters are killed off like flies creates a sense of apprehension throughout it. This, along with the vibe of the cutthroat world Ellie is living in, creates a bleak and anxious atmosphere that keeps you on your toes the whole time.
Right after the death, the game takes us down on a path of vengeance. Ellie's character development is complex and we slowly start seeing a different Ellie- a much darker and violent Ellie who stops at nothing to get revenge.
Enter Abby. She is first introduced to players in a way that- let's just say won't make her very appealing Then we get to play her character and it's essentially the same story in the same city but with a different perspective. Her character arch is much more complex than Ellie's. Almost all the actions committed during Ellie's arch are "revisited" through Abby and that's one of the ways TLOU really screws with your mind. So much so, that towards the end you might just find yourself rooting for Abby instead of the girl we've known since Part 1. The game gives us a complex commentary on the cycles of violence and vengeance through two opposing perspectives.

The gameplay itself has evolved considerably since the Last of Us 1. New elements such as the rope and dogs spice up interactions. When played in hard mode, the game gives you just enough resources to get by and so you are left with the task of being the architect of the encounters. All the encounters feel smooth and Naughty Dog has gone out of its way to add nuance to everything- every NPC is given a name which adds a layer of complexity to what is essentially a "to-kill"
character. Encounters are challenging and rewarding. The graphics are extremely beautiful and careful observation reveals the amount of detail invested into making the environment.

The things that disappoint in the game are parts of the beginning. The reason I did not give this a 10 is that the start makes no sense. We open the story in a utopia inside a dystopia. Suddenly a main character dies? Suddenly we're in Seattle to kill those responsible? And an almost teenage girl agrees to company her girlfriend on a deathwish mission? It was very tough to get on board with the story in the beginning. The story could have started much better. Explaining the intricacies of Joel and Ellie's story through flashbacks would have helped explain Ellie's decision. Spending some time in Jackson with Ellie and Dina might have helped get us acquainted with their relationship. So in my opinion, the story's chronology and depth could have been handled better in the beginning.

The story eventually picks up and immerses us into two psychologically-taxing and opposing perspectives. The flawless graphics and gameplay complement the story and pull us into an experience that's really an avant-garde work of art in the modern video game industry. Kudos to Naughty Dog for doing right by the Last of Us franchise!

In the midst of opposition from many directions, both from the fans who were disappointed with the story since the leaked, and from the Anti-SJW group that attacked the creators intentionally putting too much LGBT + in the game. Which led to a 0-point collapse within hours of opening for reviews in Metacritic, in contrast to scores from a lot of media and critics. Until causing the game to be accused of being overrated by critics. And became one of the most controversial games of the late PS4 era.

But after playing 37 hours of The Last of Us Part II through reading all the notes collected in the game, open every safe as there is, looking through the environment in every molecule that I've seen, crawling through the grass, chase after killing the WLF, ride a horse in open area, locked Seraphites's neck, dodge bullets, running away from the infected with a bumping heart, I found that in the dark atmosphere of vengeance and chaos that was overwhelming incessantly. Among the surreal ruins of Seattle Madness and Ellie's "Smell of Steel" is carefully crafted, rich and unbeatable.

Even if the game is presented on the story line that goes straight to the same end - to the same pain. But with clever storytelling methods, it returns fresh results. Even though the taste is strange, different, but amazing.

In the first part, we will play Ellie in the age of 18 years. Ellie is not a little kid like in the first part anymore. She becomes a teenager who questions life. Joel's lies are eating her. While she learns to love, she must experience the loss at the same time. In the end she lost his way to revenge without destination.

    And that's just the beginning

From what we have always thought of, to kill enemies in the game, and maybe there will be some sympathy for our opponents (which is probably not so much), but in the second half of TLOU2. Instead, the game forces us to "play" or act as our own enemies from the first part of the game. That is Abby, the daughter of a doctor who was killed by Joel in the first sequel (to save Ellie). She grew up with a full resentment. Abandon everything just for strength of body and mind, Waiting for the day to pay back for Joel. Finally, it brought a pounding between her and Elle until the last seconds of the game.

This is how ND tell the story through gameplay. It's take the player to dive with the characters to the max Players have learned to stand on both sides of the coin. Seeing the development of resentment that ties them together. And in the end, only to find that we all become victims of each other (among many victims in this story).

TLOU2 is therefore not just an action game driven by the story of vengeance that abound. And there is no representation of good vs evil. Everything is vague, anguish and bleak. All the violence that appears in the game is more than that. Victory doesn't come from the enemy's blood, but from both of us. And among all the feelings I had after the end of the play. One of them is the word "aesthetics", pondering over the past 37 hours. Instead of considering fierce paintings, which were drawn with the smallest brush, concentrating so as not to lose sight.

The chase scene between Abby and Ellie in the theater is something that is beyond expectations and really squeezes my heart. This is the only game that leads us to face violence and invites us to see the hurt of both sides of resentment. Until the last moment on the shores of Santa Barbara. The collision between two people who are whacked and lost is therefore the most painful and beautiful tragedy.

"When you're lost in the darkness, look for the light."

Regardless of whether you like or dislike this game for any reason, but the thing that must be accepted is , among all the action games that sell violence so far, we are accustomed to shooting anonymous AI or evil demons. This is a AAA game that is brave enough to raise violence as a proposition, meticulously put life into it and use it to slap our face to call us from the whirlwind of indifference towards action games. And in one way or another, it has changed us forever.

For those who read this and still hate this game. Either from the negative trend or the private opinion. Well, hopefully one day you will see this game like I see. And try to forgive it once.

Ellie: "I don't think I can ever forgive you for that... But I'd like to try."

Gameplay feels more tight, but the aiming is still as blocky as the first game. You can opt for a auto aim setting if you like.
The dodge button works great and at times makes the fighting feel really cinamatic in al its bloddy glory.
It is brutal, it really is and i LOVE it. Reviewers judging that it is to real and make you feel sorry for taking a life is complete bs. Its a game and all the trailers prepares you for it. If you have a soft heart and cant handle it than dont play it after watching the trailer.

Graphics and sound. My word they nailed it. The sound is so realistic, guns actually sound loud like a gun should. Wich most games fail to deliver.
And the rain, wind and voices al sound so good. Especially with a surround headset.

This game got such an unfair score, both by users that hate the story decision and reviewers that gave it nothing but love.
Its not a perfect game. At times the story is to drawn out. End the ending should have ended a couple of hours before the real ending. (you will know why if you play it)
But the gameplay, sound and graphics alone makes this game a solid 8.
And if you feel like the gameplay is too repetative, than you yourself made it that way. The game gives you many ways to end that npc, fire, bullets, fists, arrows, bricks, knifes and al kinds of melee weapons. Not to mention you can stealthly take them out or go b*lls to the walls ham on people. Dont blame a game being repetative when you cant open your mind to other ways of play.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game was stunning to say the least. The graphics were incredible and all of the technical elements for this game were executed in a beautiful way. The stealth gameplay was the best I have ever played and the combat never felt redundant and always kept me on my toes. The acting in this game is phenomenal and the dialogue always felt natural and realistic. While I may not have loved where the story went in this game sometimes, the writing was amazing. I never knew what was going to happen next. Playing as Abby was difficult at first because she killed Joel, a very beloved character, but they did a very good job at showing that every revenge story has two sides. While I still love Joel as a character and it broke my heart that he died, he did terrible things that make him the villain. A hero and a villain of any story are all about perspective and I like that they showed that here. I loved that the characters in this game felt like flawed human beings. During the fight scenes between Abby and Ellie, I found myself not wanting to hit the button in either fight. The ending may not have been a "happy" ending, I found that it showed that Ellie had regained her humanity and had come to terms with Joel's death so that she can move on. I definitely know that playing through this game in its entirety before reviewing it is essential. I do not think that you can just watch certain scenes and form a complete opinion. Part of me wanted to stop playing after Joel's death because it was so heartbreaking to me, but I'm glad that I didn't. Not every game can have a happy ending and I'm glad that this game was not just another version of the first game with slightly different story elements. I'm glad that this game did something different and I think that the people who worked on this game did an amazing job. Expand

The struggle throughout the game contribute to the harsh gritty reality of that world and it also adds to the storyline in a way that only video game can do. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. First of all, for a game to be a 10 on my scale it would have to be something earth shattering amazing that I would play for 100+ hours. I’d say TLOU1 was very close. I’d give it a 9.8. I’d give TLOU2 a 9.3 to be specific. Second, if you rated this game anything under a 7 you are being ridiculously unfair and you didn’t go into this experience with an open mind, or you didn’t enjoy the first game, maybe it’s just not your genre of choice, but if that were the case you would not have played the second.

It’s the same incredible gameplay from the first game, Naughty Dog didn’t try to fix what wasn’t broken. The story was a lot more ambitious than the first, with the story/writing being the chief complaint. The first game had a very tight and focused plot. Whereas the first game felt like an interactive movie, part 2 felt like an interactive TV series. As for the story, it hit some lulls (TLOU1 never did) and I didn’t particularly enjoy the flashbacks, but playing the two timelines was so compelling and suspenseful. The first day with Abby I was disappointed to even be playing with her and the first day was a bit boring. Day 2 and 3 with Abby was the highlight of the game though. At the end of the day, I play games to have fun. I judge them way differently from movies and books. I play video games specifically to have fun. If a game were truly anything under a 6, there’s just no way I’d have the patience to see through a subpar 20+ campaign to the end. If you played through this whole game and gave it a 5 or a 6, you’re full of crap. If you have it under a 5, you’re a troll that isn’t to be taken seriously. It’s very clear what happened to user reviews of this game. If a game has replay-ability its at least a 7. I will absolutely play TLOU II again, probably several times over the next 5-10 years. It was an extremely fun game, bottom line. I didn’t want this game to end. But I will say the ending was a bit too dragged out. The part where you’re tracking down Abby was an absolute blast though. So to wrap it up, no it’s not perfect, no it’s not good as the first but I wasn’t expecting it to be or demanding it to be. But I have to reiterate how damn good of a game it was and how much fun I had playing it. I feel not even the slightest bit of disappointment.

The game makes you like Abby after everything she did by using such great characters ( Lev being my favorite side character), and don`t even get started on those BEAUTIFUL landscapes you play in, the combat is very good, and the big problem with most people is the story of this game but mannn is the story good, it`s not all sun shine and fun it`s portrays real problems with hatred, revenge and the cost of those things. The only reason this game isn`t a 10/10 is a think they could have added some more parts of story before you start to play abby, so you don`t lose so much momentum, and they could have explained a very small amount of what happened the the characters in the end. This game definitely doesn`t deserve a 5.0. Expand

This game lights your emotions on fire, burns them to the ground, and leaves you sitting empty... ready for deep introspection to fill you back up with something new.

If you wanted something to make you feel good, look elsewhere. If you want a game that will make you think and feel in real life ways, look no further.fu

That being said, I still strongly recommend the game as its fantastic gameplay and unique, if imperfect, storyline left me with an overall positive outlook towards the game as a whole. The gameplay is mix of stealth, third person shooter, and survival/crafting. This aspect is the best element of the game as it greatly improves upon the already solid mechanics of the previous Last of Us. The game is fairly linear and is structured around a set timeline of events that take the player to various large set piece locations in and around the pacific northwest region of the United States. The story of The Last of Us Part II is perhaps the most questionable element. While it is emotionally driven and follows a strong cast of characters, the plot pivots sharply at times and lingers on tangential storylines that could have been cut out entirely or at least significantly trimmed down. These sections of the game feel overly long and drawn out to the point that the story’s momentum is abruptly halted and some entire chapters of the game feel needlessly tacked on. While I can admire the writers’ attempts to flesh out some of the game’s side characters and create a sense of worldbuilding, these portions of the are too long and tedious to justify their inclusion in the finished version of the game. Despite this, I feel that the overall story and brilliant gameplay are strong enough to justify purchasing the game. For those are huge fans of the previous game, I recommend giving it a chance and heading in with an open mind, despite some of the more scathing reviews. Overall 8/10 Expand

So...The games graphics overall are the best i have ever seen on console and the story telling/how much work and thought was put into this game. The Physics, the take downs and animations look are AMAZING. But.... Naughty dog did the give us, THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN WAITING 7 YEARS TO PLAY the worst story they could.
Everything was taken away from Elli. Joel dies, Dina leaves her, and she can no longer play guitar AND we dont get revenge... Im sure the Netflix version will be worse.

Game gets an 8 Because i still feel like it was an OK game.

This is not a happy ending kind of video game, it's more real than anything I've played before and the experience is something else. The story is very interesting and there's a sadness to it that's quite difficult to understand and accept, but kudos to ND for making it possible. There are parts of the game that are hard to get through because you feel this sadness, this anger towards some characters, you feel that life is not fair and you wish it were different. The characters were real, interesting and very deep, unlike anything I've seen before in a video game. The gameplay is fun, the mechanics are VERY different from the first one (especially in combat), but it makes it a lot of fun because you can play the same level using different techniques and strategies, which makes this game fun to replay many times.
In terms of the storytelling, I thought it was a huge risk that ND took with the way things went down, but ultimately, it was the right choice. I believe this game will mark all future gaming experiences, where video games start merging with other types of media (like films), which makes this game all that more interesting.
TLOU II is a must play, it's not the same to watch or stream it as it is to play it; the experience is very unique and different for everyone, which only adds to how awesome the game is. I recommend it for all fans of the original as well as people who look for games that touch heavy subjects and are not afraid to rethink their thoughts and ideals.

A fantastic game that deals with the fallout from the original story while presenting an entirely new narrative to interweave with it. Naughty Dog hits it out of the park with the same emotional intensity of the first game, and manages to do something no other game in my playing history has done: get me actually conflicted about the weight of my actions during gameplay. The only reason I don't give it a perfect 10 is because the enemy AI is still a bit silly at times (multiple enemies walking into the exact same spot I've melee killed three of their comrades in) and there were definitely times where I felt the game dragged during obvious "scavenging breaks" between action sequences. But ND does a solid job of still incorporating enough dialogue and story into these breaks that they still have a flow to them. Players will be split on some plot points, but I think that those automatically giving a 1 rating based on leaks alone obviously missed the point that the developers were making here. If you've already ruined the game for yourself by reading leaks, that's on you, because you missed out on an incredible experience that lives up to its predecessor. Expand

Frankly, I was a bit skeptical about this game being able to overcome 7 years of building up hype to deliver an experience on par with the first title. But this turned out to be a fantastic game. The game play, style, pacing, combat and mechanics all had great continuity coming from the original and the environment was often nothing short of stunning. Like the first game, it is violent, gritty, intense, heavy on story, and a lot of fun to play. Also, for what it's worth, I didn't encounter a single crash, glitch, or bug.

But, as this is about Joel and Ellie we're talking about, the story is a critical aspect of the experience.

The extremely polarized user reviews is understandable. If somebody hasn't played the first game or been dragged into the depths of the hype they might simply and objectively enjoy the game. However, for those who have spent the last 7 years nurturing deep emotional connections to the characters and theorizing how the story should play out, this game is going to have some tough pills to swallow.

First, the story and character development of this game is very different thematically. While both games are set in dark times with characters making morally gray choices, there are still overriding "warm fuzzy" tones in the first game. The development of a father-daughter like relationship, the building trust between two trauma-hardened characters, and the drivers for their journey are ultimately designed to evoke positive emotional responses. But in Part 2 the theme is much more dark. The story and character progression build on hate and vengeance. The game is designed to make the player uncomfortable and even sad and angry.

Second, the lengths at which the game goes to evoke these emotional responses extends beyond the story and character progression alone and into the sequencing and game play. For example, the game forces the player out of the context of their current progression to play from the perspective of a different character--one the player is not supposed to like very much. I generally hate this tactic (I want to throw the controller every time an Assassin's Creed game sends me into the Animus). But I saw it coming during my play through and I went in with an open mind. And, as designed, I did hate it at first. But I quickly adapted to viewing the world and events through another lens. I ended up enjoying getting more depth to the otherwise peripheral characters, playing with a different style using alternative gear and upgrade paths, and seeing additional post-apocalyptic social perspectives.

But again, the theme of hate and vengeance runs throughout the game, and this additional depth and perspective only adds to the loathe/love dichotomy of the characters and their circumstances. Or, as Ellie might say, "this is F**ked".

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Incredible game. One moment it had be tearing up, then it had me laughing, and then it scared the **** out of me. The acting and writing in this game are unparalleled. If there was an Oscar for video game acting, this game would clean house.

The game is also filled with jaw dropping set-pieces and some of the best animation I've ever seen in a game.

I understand why some people are upset or disappointed with this game, even if I don't share their sentiment. The deciding factor of whether you like this story or not rests on accepting its inciting incident. Personally, I like the direction it takes. The only death that could have provoked such a warpath for Ellie is the death of Joel, and I thought it was handled beautifully, especially the scenes of Ellie reminiscing in Joel's home, her inability to finish Joel's song, and the emotionally resonant flashbacks.

Liking the story also hinges on how you feel about Abby. I personally liked Abby--I found her personality more likable than Ellie's. She had a deeper moral depth, and her reasons for killing Joel are, I believe, justified.

The score should also be mentioned. It had me hooked right from the start with several standout moments like the early sequence in the mountain forest. The music lent itself to the tension. And **** this is a tense game. At several points I had to pause to catch my breath, especially in the subway tunnels, the Descent, and Ground Zero.

The Last of Us Part II is a heavy game, dealing with difficult themes. Where the first game explores the lengths one goes to for love, this one explores the lengths of hate and revenge. Joel gave up the development of a cure for his love for Ellie, and Ellie gave up everything for her hatred of Abby. And I believe Ellie would have lost even more if she had killed Abby, because the satisfaction of revenge is rarely something that lasts, like what Abby experienced after killing Joel.

Overall, from the tense gameplay to the gripping story, this is hands down one of the best games I've ever experienced. I highly recommend it, even if I know some people will not like it.

I didn't personally like some of the elements in the game. But that doesn't make it *objectively* bad. It's like this - mango may be my favorite ice cream flavor. So it doesn't mean all other ice cream flavors are bad. I can still enjoy very much many other ice cream flavors if the one I want isn't available.

This is a LONG game. It really takes you on a journey that turns several characters' fates on their heads. It makes you feel intense hate, grief, joy, misery and fear. So, buckle up. Let all your preconceptions and prejudices go and just let the creators tell the story they wanted to tell.

The Last of Us Part II takes bold choices and bold leaps when it comes to its characters and story, in order to justify its existence as a sequel. One can argue that the first game never needed a sequel, and this is completely unnecessary, but this sequel expands on ideas of the original to keep things complex and fresh.

The gameplay has greatly improved upon the first, with the addition of multiple new mechanics and enemies, with huge environments that boast beautiful scenery. Some people might be angry with the addition of new characters, but the game uses juxtaposition in its narrative to draw similarities and comparisons between its two main protagonists.

In all honesty, the strength of the plot lies within the player's ability to empathize with the game's characters, and if you as a player decides to go into this without an open mind, then the experience will be nothing but shallow and it will be extremely unrewarding. It's okay not to like the game, but to try not to understand it first and bash it upon completion is not what the game intends for you as a player, and is certainly not the right way to approach it.

My only problem with the game is it's uneven pacing during some parts, but that's mostly due to my play style, and how I took my time exploring every little corner.

Overall, The Last of Us Part II is a worthy sequel to its predecessor in my eyes, and is extremely ambitious in its narrative department, albeit a few pacing issues.

So, if you’re very touchy with spoilers, read someone else’s review, but I am trying to be impartial and give my full thoughts. I really enjoyed this game. So much of it, from the brutal and tactical gameplay, to the hauntingly melancholic score, to the beautiful animation and graphical realism many have come to expect from Naughty Dog, work very well together. The new enemy types are exciting, and the old ones are revamped to make for more engaging interaction. In all of these respects, I was blown away and thankful for the work of the developers in crafting this stark and gritty world.
And that brings me to the hot topic of this game: The Story. I feel I should get this out of the way: Naughty Dog owes you nothing. They did not disrespect you or the characters in this fictional world by making a daring choice in storytelling. In not playing it safe, this game separates itself from many in the medium, and for better or worse, I’m appreciative of their decision.
Also, hating on this game because of its realistic representation of minorities that frequently go unnoticed in video games (and other mediums) is not a valid reason of disliking this work of art, and you need to think about your priorities if LGBTQIA+ characters in a story cause you to devolve into a state of primitive anger. I will say that I do have issues with this story, the chief one being that I feel this experience is too long. Don’t give me wrong, this game gives you a lot to do and a lot to see, but I feel the game’s central messages would’ve been elevated by cutting out the fluff and encounters that don’t add much to the game other than fodder to kill. A longer game does not equate to a better tale.
Additionally, I feel that, although the environments in this game were breathtaking at nearly all points, having 15+ hours take place in a location in which everything feels very “same-y” hindered the game, and made it drabber than it needed to be (though this may have been intentional to elicit the tone).
Furthermore, at some points the story and gameplay clash in a way that’s contradictory to the main theme that’s trying to be brought across. This may be a little spoiler-y, but having a plot about how we demonize the “antagonist” our story falls under its own weight when there’s certain factions that are pretty irredeemably horrible (i.e. using slave labor).
My final qualm is that, at some (few) points, certain story elements feel very basic, as if the audience would lack the ability to understand nuance so they made certain parallels excruciatingly obvious to see, which I feel was a bit too much (though by seeing the angry and divided fan base, I can see why this may have been the correct decision).
However, the rest of the story and plot were explored tremendously. Motifs of dehumanization, guilt, PTSD, forgiveness, empathy, and family are powerfully used to tell an emotionally exhausting tale with important themes. The character’s feel truly and utterly human, with real quirks and fears and faults and traumas that make them relatable, even with the apocalyptic backdrop. The stories strengths lie in its ability to develop the central casts’ arcs, and to depict none of them as evil monsters but flawed tragics. You begin to learn about yourself just as the characters are learning about themselves. And by the end, my morals were conflicted, (slight thematic spoiler ahead) but ultimately saddened to see how easy it is to commit atrocities in the name of love. Subplots are beautifully realized and relationships between the people in this world feel intimate are soul-crushingly impactful. Huge story beats, as well as small ones, told both in cutscenes and in in-game moments, further your connection into the characters, story, and world of The Last Of Us as a whole. And goddamn, certain story moments just made me want to bawl my eyes out. By the end, I felt relieved, happy, distraught, and empty all at the same time, which I believe is what Naughty Dog wanted, all in order to convey one essential tenet (of which is not my own words, as I’m quoting “Girlfriend Reviews”; slight thematic spoiler ahead): “There is no difficulty slider in game - or in real life - to forgive someone” (yourself included). I will say I prefer the first title in this series, but I do feel that they compliment each other well (and obligatory message to play the first one before this one). Furthermore, I have a feeling this game may grow on me, as some days I feel that the game is a 6/10 and others a 10/10 (8/10 is me trying to be objective). This is not to say that any real criticism is invalid!
So in conclusion, I feel that this game that delves into a rich world with a strong (if not slightly muddled) message is worth experiencing if you’re emotionally willing. Examine your biases, and try it with an open mind.

I was going to wait till I had finished to write the review, but I can't wait. I've played through Ellie's 3 days in Seattle and am almost through Abby's Seattle Day 1. As a huge fan of Part 1, I believe this game has made some great improvements and I don't have much to complain about.
Visually this game is absolutely stunning (10 out of 10). The sound and music are also appropriately intense. The sounds of the undead are thoroughly terrifying. I like the larger variety of weapons and upgrades and that you can upgrade to compliment your specific playing style. I like the rope puzzles and didn't feel there were too many of them like some people complained about. I'm a stealth freak (AC is my favorite game series) so I really liked being able to go prone and hide in grass. I didn't mind the jump feature either. People need to remember you're playing as normal people (women at that) in a very normal world not some parkour expert like AC or Prince of Persia. The same goes for the other shooting and fighting mechanics. You're playing as two women (one of whom is tiny), you can't possibly expect her to have the fighting prowess of Kratos. Playing as a person with normal physical abilities adds to the suspense and sense of danger.
I read a lot of complaints about the AI of the NPCs. In most cases I found it to be easier to navigate than Part 1 due to the openness of the environments. I felt I was able to move and hide and complete almost all kills by stealth. It seemed a little too easy sometimes as I felt the other NPCs should have been able to see me at times while I was choking out their friend within a few feet of them. I did like that there were two human factions to face plus the undead, which gave more variety to the game.
I felt there were more jump scares in Part 2, which I'm not a huge fan of. 1. This game is already terrifying and doesn't need more of that and 2. I'm a stealth player and don't like being forced into combat. But, these reasons are both personal to me.
Now regarding the controversial part...the story.....Maybe I'm a cold-hearted robot, but I don't mind the story at all, and am even enjoying playing as Abby. I hadn't read spoilers before I played but I full-well assumed Joel wasn't long for this world (Come on, he's the Obi-wan of this franchise, the "mentor" archetype ALWAYS dies...just like the horse, RIP Starlight). If the story was just a rehashing of Joel and Ellie on some other mission people would have ripped the game apart for being boring and a repeat of Part 1. What the creators did was create a vast world that gets explored by two different characters so you can see many different nuances of this post-apocalyptic world, which I loved. I really liked seeing the Stadium, Jackson and how the different societies were set up.
I keep thinking the people who are so bent out of shape over this story are the same ones who were so bent when Ned Stark died. Give the creators a chance, go with the flow. No person is all good or all bad, they are what they are, its a video game (its not actually a real dog you're killing, chill out). I liked the dialogue and things revealed in side convos and cut scenes. One pivotal moment for me was when Ellie told Jesse that she'd go back with him, which seemed to me she was lying and knew it. She was in too far, past the point of no return. I read a lot of complaints about her doing things that were out of character. It does seem that she should have turned back on her revenge quest long before, especially since she was actually mad at Joel for the choice he made at the end of Part 1. I feel like she's got guilt for being the only one who is immune, she seems to have a lot of emotion she doesn't know how to deal with, she doesn't seem to feel like she belongs...like in the dialogue w/ Dina where she's talking about settling down on a farm, you get a sense that Ellie has too restless of a spirit for that based on her responses. Again, there's a lot of nuance in the side conversations which seems to have been missed by a lot of the reviewers.
The game is extremely tense and emotionally draining. Its an adrenaline suck for sure. It is somber and deep and I can see how its definitely not the game for everyone. This game is not for those who want to play a happy game, this game is here to suck on your life force and it does an excellent job of that and there's nothing wrong with it. The reason I love gaming so much is that you can be immersed into all kinds of different worlds and be made to feel all kinds of emotions.
Overall I'm greatly enjoying the gameplay, the environments, the larger levels, the game mechanics and even the story. I'm taking it as it comes and not getting bent out of shape wishing for a different story.
If you go into this game knowing its not here to make you happy, you might just really enjoy it!

Perhaps they forced the ratial and homosexual topics, i think they've done it for some minorities, but were not necesary. The madness that Ellie have, and the anger she feel towards Abby feels so real, you play an entire game with Joel and she kills he with a club. But later you undestand her motives. The violence of the war between SCARS and WOLFS is simply impressive. And the final enemies with their torture methods are so sadic that I really loved it, this is a history of revenge and its consequences, she lost everyone she loved one time, her major fear was this, being alone, thing Ellie earned with the promises she make and the acts she comitts.
To resume, the best graphics game i've ever played, it didnt betrayed the first game in style, and the fact Ellie lose 2 fingers, so she cannot play the guitar (the unique object she kepts from joel, also his watch) is the pay for all the anger she one time had. 9/10

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I am pleased with the story of The Last of Us Part II. it's a story that takes you on a roller coaster of emotions and you understand that the main characters (Ellie and Abby) are not good, They are simply the result of a bad decision that could be selfish for anyone who does not have the happiness of being a father. Both have lost a loved one And they launch on a journey of revenge that leaves so much collateral damage.

In general, you have to think about the whole journey and how an action sets in motion results that will affect you in the future, it happened to Joel, it happened to Ellie and also to Abbie.

The people complaining about the story in the game simply don't understand storytelling or basic narrative structure. The point of the ending is to show that both Ellie and Abby share many qualities, and are very similar characters. The point of having these morally grey characters is to enhance the connection the audience feels to the characters. This is something that Naughty Dog have succeeded in, which is why I give this game a 10. Expand

The Last of Us Part II is the high point of the PlayStation 4. The plot is controversial, but the game is the incredibly addictive adventure of Ellie, from which it is impossible to pull away from the opening and to the very end.

Not everyone is going to enjoy the motives of The Last of Us Part II. But if you try and manage to accept the subliminal and not so subtle messages as a fact that the world has gone awry and that people have the need to have somewhere or someone to belong to as their own way out, then... You will witness the boundaries of gaming expand. You will witness a true masterpiece.

If you loved the original for its great characters and well-paced story – stay away from this game. However, if you’re aching to sink into the depths of depression, or just want to cut some throats and burn some zombies – Part II will deliver. [Issue#247, p.72]
