Beautifull detailed world, eight storylines, huge amount of ruins, forts, caves, temples, dungeons, towns,... to explore. Hundreds of unique NPCs (you can talk to almost anybody) I agree there are better games (like Witcher 3) but that does not make Skyrim a bad game. It may not be the #1 but it is still awesome experience worth exploring. Expand

+ Graphics outdoors hold up well on PS4.
    - The combat is really clunky. Not very fun.
    - Lots of crap quests. Not close to the quality found in The Witcher 3 for example.
    - The game is huge but boring and lots of simlar looking locations.
    - The story is terrible.

Pretty much the same as the original, except with upgraded to 2012 graphics. They stories fine and enjoy the only problem is the combat is incredibly dull. The combat is so lack luster that even fight a dragon is boring. The game would easily be a 9 out of 10 if the gameplay felt at least somewhat rewarding.

Most of the fun my friends and I have had with this game has been in the screwy things that spawn as a result of the mods conjoined with the usual fun had in playing the base game of Skyrim. This title really wasn't necessary.

That being said, I do think this edition was additive to the Skyrim experience on console. The change in graphics really did brighten the previously dull atmosphere. The addition of mods opened a new set of opportunities to goof around with a beloved game. Part of the fun of Skyrim was in its rough brokenness; this game contributes to that fun (and I'm not saying that ironically).

All in all, this game adds just enough to not be a sham, but certainly not enough to cost 60 big ones. If you can pick it up for 20 bucks or less it might be worth it.

On top of this, the latest patch was the last straw. The game crashes all the time. I have stopped playing and sold the game.
Even so, without these problems I probably would have played another 200 hours or so. So my opinion if you want to buy this game? Wait until the price is dropped and the game is fixed correctly. You can buy The Witcher 3 GOTY for less, and it is 10 times better at this point.

However, despite my rose-tinted spectacles I cannot deny that the PS4 special edition isn't anything 'special'. To clarify, Bethesda's improvement of the visuals & graphical fidelity of the game does not justify the lack of any real overhaul of the game; glitches, terrible AI & bugs are still rife in the world of Skyrim, and they all compound to emphasise how poorly this game has aged (I some times have trouble going back to play TES V or even Oblivion). Furthermore, the updates to graphics on all versions still do not surpass that of what mods are capable of on the PC (obviously) so-if you can-just play the PC version if you're really concerned with graphical superiority.
If you are a console owner, who has yet to play Skyrim, and are not bothered by any of the above: then I would recommend Skyrim Special Edition, as Skyrim is one of the best western RPG's ever released (just don't expect it to hold up to modern RPG standards, as it is quite dated & of course comes packaged with the classic Bethesda charm).

It's a fun game, but the world feels overwhelming sometimes. Like there's too much stuff to do. And I didn't find myself caring about the characters. I ended up giving up on trying to care and rushed through the story just to try to get done with it. I know in my head it's a great game but it just doesn't have the "it factor" that Fallout 4 did.

Skyrim Special Edition is a bit of a disappointment. Also, why did they not remaster Oblivion instead? 2016 does mark the 10 year anniversary of Oblivion. I don't care if "It'll be a big job" because it really won't. It's a game that came out in **** 2006, 10 years ago. It won't be overly hard to improve the graphics and solve the issues that were present in Oblivion. And I don't care if it got pushed to 2017. The point is, Oblivion needed a remaster more. Skyrim Special Edition isn't a bad game, but very unnecesary, and a tad of laziness was shown on Bethesda's part.

The E3 trailer made it appear like they had redone the game from the ground up, but that is far from the case. The lighting mostly looks better, but sometimes, doesn't. And for a special edition, this game adds very little. It came with all the DLC, which i liked, having not bought any for the PS3 version. But shortly after reading the back cover you realize.... that's it. You payed $60 for a game you already own. Yeah sure, playing it with a dualshock 4 is nice, and there are a lot of bug fixes obviously, but there is absolutely no value here for those who already own the game. For new players, I recommend this game fully. Please, go buy it now. But for returning players like myself, just save your cash for ES6, you know, if it ever comes out. Expand

I have played through this game twice and then some, yes if you already have played it there isn't much new for you to experience less the mods. the mods are fairly good but there isn't as big a range with the Ps4 vs Xbox or PC as the PS4 has limited file sizes or something meaning the mods are sparse/not as good, the ones I did download were pretty good but most graphics and high end mods are not available.
Visually, there is some improvement, better lighting a textures as well as draw distance improve the overall experience and, whilst it will never hold a candle to the Witcher or highly modded PC Skyrim, it does give just a little breath of fresh air and the densely detailed world has made me stop to stare a good few times.
I've already put many hours in and as elder scrolls games it's a different experience every time, a with a fresh fantasy character and random experiences, I am free once again to live out a new characters life and sample some of the different things that I was never bothered with before, I may even start a different one to try out more things.
Overall there is of course not much extra content but with a rich world filled with things to do, you're surely to find things you haven't seen before and generally experience new things, whilst enjoying the same character freedom that is to be expected.
For anyone who hasn't played this before it's a must buy, hundreds of hours gameplay are available and with the price sat at around £20-25 it's a massive bargain.
For those who have played it and enjoyed it, it's still worth a pick up but there are other games out there in this price range (Witcher 3 GOTY) that will perhaps suit you more.

However this games suffers greatly from bugs. I have played around 40 hours so far. Around 30 were spent unmodded, and 10 were spent with mods enabled. They both suffered greatly. Missing NPCs, glitched quest items, and quest events not registering has frustrated me to the point where I feel the need to check that I've saved every 5 minutes, which feels more like a chore than it should. I understood the transition between last gen and current gen wouldn't have been flawless, but the last gen were vastly superior in my experience. That being said, I have heard rare cases of people playing through the game bug free. I've had no such luck.

You're taking a chance on this product. That's for sure. But when the game is working it's nearly flawless. I wouldn't recommend purchasing unless you're a die hard elder scrolls fan. If you do purchase, you'll have a better time with no mods (not that there are many worth downloading on PS4 anyway).

Open world games are HARD to bring forward to a complete and rewarding product.
But it is a game with issues and bugs that weigh it down. Bethesda is known for this.
I am really not drawn to RPG´s as i used to be in the 90´s. But there is something about Skyrim that keeps you going despite its errors. If you pick this up cheap you have hundreds of hours you can sink into it.
I am not really a big fan of Bethesda as i don´t really like they style of game making and constant recycle of their PS3-looking game engine. They really need to reinvent themselves and move on.

    PRO:
    - Great vast world stuffed with content. Exploring is rewarding and fun. Deep realms and other dimensions are featured.
    - Value for you money. Hours of gameplay
    - Decent music score.
    - Dragons are cool..
    - Story concept is brilliant...

    CONS:
    - ...but not so well executed in details..
    - Atrociously bad combat. Simple hack & slash. Magic is pretty meh and pointless to use.
    - Virtually NO stealth mechanics.
    - Absolute terrible voice acting. The game has like 3 male and 1 female voice actor total.
    - Even this remaster has tons of bugs. Stuck missions is sadly still one of them.
    - As a remastered game, it looks better but it is still outdated.

In terms of the game, it’s Skyrim, it’s good, but of course it’s very buggy, as is to be expected. However, for PS4 at least, it has crippled one of the best aspects of the Skyrim experience, the mods. Only allowing for existing assets and not any new ones creates an abyss where creativity goes to die, and locks out so many of the most amazing mods from being added to the game.
