I'm redoing my review. My review of the game in 2015 was unfavorable. The game needed a lot of work. Rereading my review my points were valid at the time but no longer valid. The PVP aspects have been expanded. And more than anything, when you buy the base game, you have enough content to be sustainable into the long game without needing anything else. Anything else is extra flavor and extra money, but it's an enjoyable experience solo or with friends.

I will also factor in the community. I play Mobas, switching from a Moba to ESO is phenomenal for my mental health. The player base is so kind and caring it doesn't feel real sometimes. A random player just gave me 15k gold because I was on a new toon. I didn't even ask for anything. He came to help me fight a monster because he was passing by, gave me the gold, then rode off into the sunset. Its a nice place to be.

Awful game. Side quests in this game is pure fetch quests, you receive bad rewards/loot, main story is boring, combat is stupidly bad. And the dialogue is laughable. I honestly never understood the hype around this game.

Bosses with insta kill abilities ruin all end game content. Apparently things like yelling really loud is enough to kill you in this game. Makes perfect sense

Its combat is simplistic and uneventful; its quests and narrative fail to engage me; and overall, it is something that I just can't get fully invested in. There is something here that I really want to get into, but overcoming the aspects I just mentioned make doing so a major slog.

I love the potential for individuality when it comes to building a character in ESO. There are very few limitations when it comes to individualizing each class to your desired play style, and there is absolutely no barrier to entry in terms of difficulty. But truly, ESO is the very definition of mundane. I keep hoping against hope that something will grab me, and am consistently met with disappointment.

This is not "Skyrim online." This is a mediocre facsimile of not just better Elder Scrolls games, but also better MMOs. Though it is not intolerable, it has, thus far, failed to deliver a gripping experience.

The Elder Scrolls Online is a unique RPG that allows for further character customization options that previous installments of the series lacked, with the inclusion of clean graphics and a unique music score. However, the carry weight feature and active quest “feature” can be a bit annoying, and the controls may take a bit to adjust to.

Incredibly fun and enjoyable game. I've spent over 1000 hours on PS4 and PS5 combined, met many great friends, had a lot of fun in PvE, PvP, and in other non-combat events. This is truly a wonderful MMO, and a fantastic Elder Scrolls game lore- and exploration-wise!

If someone tells you you can't succesfully port a MMO game to a console, he never played TESO. This massive online rpg is right that: Massive. From the map to the missions, endless stories contained within a magic world full of real people. It's a shame it's not translated to spanish, so have that in mind if you don't understand English.

You could be a shield wielding vampire or a sword slashing werewolf, no matter how good or bad the combo is, if you can dream it you can do it (9 times out of 10).

I have heard a few complaints about crafting, but to be honest you probably won't find yourself crafting too often. The only time you will craft is to upgrade a weapon but you will only start doing that at a high level and by then you will already have the majority of the resources you need. At first I was disappointed to find the models for certain places were not like those of Skyrim but I later came to accept that ESO is its own game.

That being said, it is rich with lore and provides an opportunity for any RPG fan's creativity to go wild. Whilst I accept that the game has had its own problems in the past, it has really improved since then. So, if you are a fan of MMORPG's then this is the game for you.

Visually this would of looked like a nice PS3/360 game, but for a PS4 game it looks kind of dated and ugly, The graphics and lighting looked so last gen for sure.

Played TES ARPG Oblivion, Morrowind and Skyrim in that order, I'd take Oblivion hell even old Morrowind over playing another minute of TESO. The game play did not pull me in all and I didn't get that open world TES vibe. The areas I played in was just smaller zones with loading screens.

Then I looked at TES plus option and the in game currency BS and I was like oh wow. I could get a Xboxlive game pass or EA play and have access to hundreds of games for the price of this one games subscriptions model and in game currency options. Which will obviously be needed to cut down the mmo style grind fest.

I still play Skyrim on console and PC. I have four versions of that game. Fallout 3/4 and NV I replay a lot on console and PC. Bethesda online models for TES/Fallout are really restrictive unless you cough up beyond the base games. I picked up a preowned copy for 25% of the current PSN store price so I don't even feel burnt. Summing up TESO is just meh.

Elder Scrolls Online fun intuitive, but bargains with the spite of the MMO hand. This game first had me hating it with connection issues and the feeling of impossible progression, but after giving it another chance has made me feel wanting to breath life into it like I have for the other games in the franchise.

Now I will say that this game is not perfect as I'll explain later but the idea is much better to that of many other MMO games some of which even enticing you with being free. So what is special about this shall we say next installment in the Elder Scrolls series, well it has a knack at being well presented and develops on a scale that makes it near possible to flaunt the main missions without the consent of doing other activities.

The aperture of making the character your own is also ace as it it keeps to the position of what each Scrolls game has been about. The wonder of a diverse skills set and ability to use various armors and weapons has made a versatile and tactile approach that has allowed anyone to be anything, from a Waring Breton mage to a sword sheathing Reguard.

The look of the game is flawless, well not literally but for the most part as it has that Scrolls feel to it and the pasted MMO you come to expect, but visuals are nothing compared to the delight of the music, and as always it's a joy to sit and listen to.

The unfortunate point is that whilst you are basking the vast world of Tamriel, the spite of Mr Virtual Shop is around the corner waiting to pick pocket your crowns and give you a vanity pet item for your troubles. This is where the game for me takes one look at you and wipes money across your screen with the hope of drawing you in, but to be honest I'm not surprised after all this game is an MMO.

To put it in conclusion this game embarks a journey for you to explore the realms of Tamriel, alone or with friends. So if you do buy this be mindful as this is a MMO so yes there is an abundance of paying items and DLC extras, but that aside the core game is very much the Scrolls game you would expect.

This game WAS advertise as SKYRIM 4 YEARS AGO, countless videos of their propaganda, to tell people they should ignore that fact and accept the games horrible textures is bewildering; more so an excuse for lazy rushed design.
Instead of eye candy graphics we get superb voice acting and story telling. DumbledoreS voice; rather Michael Gambon becomes our guide, "The Prophet." Throughout your adventures. Quite frankly wasn’t surprised, they can afford it. Which is interesting because they can afford an amazing actors voice over yet completely hire a new inadequate team to build their vision.
Excuses, excuses these past 4 years of how it’s an mmo and its limitations. However to their credit now the game supports 4k, which really doesn’t make the world appear any better just makes their lazy design appear more apparent because their textures aren’t hiding behind blurriness anymore.
Is the game fun? Honestly yes... Bethesda are masters of storytelling, they hire the best in business and if you set aside our shallow and vein expectations of design you will enjoy yourself.
You can be anything in this game... a mage welding a sword, a Templar healer, hell you can visit certain locations and be a vampire wielding double daggers as an assasin. If you can conjure it you can play it... Of course other combinations will be stronger than others.
Pvp is a hit or miss, soloing any pvp without a team and voice chat to plan your attacks you will fail and get frustrated. More so you have to catch up to veterans who are more aware of the pvp maps and are geared to completely decimate you. Which isn’t to say the community is a hit or miss... Sometimes you’ll be blown away by a story and the music picks up only to hear in the background, "yo dog you for real." Not sure why they let loose voice chat in the game world... I digress.
The combat is okay, Bethesda still hasn’t mastered that connection of how it’s feels to slice and dice with a sword... Spells feel better. There’s a disconnection in combat that for some reason Bethesda can’t get right.
So we get mediocre design with 4k support but fun gameplay... hmmm. It’s like asking ourselves what’s more important a brain or looks. Well in this case they get it right... brains. With brains we eventually will get the looks. Play it... Rarely do I recommend mediocrity, but in this case... All I can say... "What is this sorcery...."

The combat is pretty basic (I.e. For kids) for the most part and each battle feels identical and boring. Also, however "open" the world is suppose to feel, the overall lack of choice feels restrictive (I.e. Opening a wardrobe will give you maybe one mediocre item based on your level).
The smithing, enchanting etc systems are over complicated and no fun at all.
The map system is terrible. Trying to find your way within a region is quite easy, but when you're trying to travel across Tamriel using a quest marker, you're screwed.
Some quests are really good, but lots are either super long and FULL of dull dialogue, or they're short and beyond boring. I very much liked the fact that available quests are shown clearly above NPC's, and generally finding something to do is pretty easy.
Although the casting system is clunky, the fact your can still cast and use weapons at the same time was also a good choice.

All in all, it's not a BAD game, it's just mediocre and a very dumbed down. It's massive, it'll keep you occupied and it's mostly gorgeous to look at (unless you're talking to an NPC).

DO NOT EXPECT THIS GAME TO KEEP YOU ENTERTAINED UNTIL THE ELDER SCROLLS 6. It'll mostly just frustrate and concern you. Seriously, just play Skyrim again. I played ESO for a long time, then went back to Skyrim. You'll fall in love with it even more when you return there after ESO.

I really wanted to like this game more. Especially since I'm torn between it and Neverwinter. I am a big fan of Bethesda and admire the effort they put into their games, but I think the struggled a bit with this one.

For starters, it is a good MMORPG and the number of subscriptions will agree with that. The world is HUGE and there is lots to do. If you have played any of Bethesda's open world titles, you will transition very easily. This game also has some of the best dungeons I have played in since FFXIV. The enemies are a bit too predictable, but they provide a nice challenge. Everything you'd expect from a MMORPG is done here. Weapons, dungeons, lore, content, etc. Its all done very well. The combat also in line with the other Elder Scrolls games so that also made for an easy transition. While their is a bit of lag, its not inhibiting in any way and the world is beautiful and for the most part really smooth.

For the bad news though, the real issue is it feels like an open world game more than an MMORPG. While the number of subscribers is high, the overall social level is pretty low. I think the lack of a chat bar really hurts this game in that regard in that you can't really tell some of the players from NPCs. When I play, I feel like I'm genuinely on my own unless I am doing something social, such as a dungeon or a group effect activity. i'd like to try to engage players, but unless they have headphones, it really doesn't work out and not every player is comfortable with headphones.

Another problem as someone before mentioned, it can be really boring. If not the cut and paste fetch quests, the time it takes to get to them. One fetch quest leads to about 3 and those three lead to 3 more and so on. This wouldn't be so bad were it not for the lack of social interaction in the game because you could conquer it with other players, but that's where it starts to feel like a open world game again.

I'm not much for PvP so I won't get into that. I prefer to have a comradery with my fellow players and this game left me a bit wanting in that. It really should be called Elder Scrolls IV.5: Tamriel. I'm willing to wait for the Morrowind expansion to see if there is any drastic change.

Collecting ingredients is tedious when you constantly have to do slow grabbing/mining/chopping animations on the large quantities of insects, plants, rocks, runestones, trees, and other harvestable things in the game world. Having the base Elder Scrolls option of just clicking a single button to collect something would help a lot. Guard AI is very bad, and the problem is exacerbated by their aggression and invincibility. In the first little bit of play after exiting Bleakrock Isle, which was my starting zone, enemies were in the middle of the friendly camp and attacking people. I was playing as a templar focused on crowd control and healing, and shot my movement speed reducing attack at one of the caster enemies. A guard ran in between us during the casting animation and I instantly got 37 bounty and was killed on sight. Attack cycling feels the same as every other MMO out there with not much unique, and the hitboxes are completely out of proportion so that if the enemy swings at you you're probably going to get hit even if you're 10 feet away and they're swinging a dagger. Bethesda is involved with it but it hardly feels like it is, comes across as an uninspired junky WoW clone. I wouldn't play this thing for a large quantity of time for free, much less for 10 dollars, or the normal non-discounted 30. Did I mention the leveling up process is so choked that I hit level 6 halfway through the beginning zone and then spent another hour of running around completing quests to get halfway to the next level. Not only do I not consider this one fun, but I don't even see it becoming enjoyable without major overhauls. A huge fail that really tarnishes a fun world. Expand

Dungeons scale to appeal to end-game PvE players, balance changes that regularly wreck concept builds to appeal to PvP players, and world bosses that used to be soloable that now require a large group. If you're a very competitive sort, you'll love it. It's just too toxic of an environment for casuals. It's moving ever more and more toward appealing to the people who play WoW and League of Legends.

Crafting used to be a level above all drops, so it was easy to craft great armour. Crafting stats have been nerfed, and crafted gear is the same level as what drops now (and inferior in every way). This is something they promised they wouldn't do, but hey, it's just too easy to get good gear and the high-end PvE players don't like that. They added duelling, which meant that roleplayers are now getting trolled all the time by people checking roleplaying site schedules and having duels there. Unlike Champions Online, it doesn't even have no-duel zones. You can duel anywhere.

The only thing that ESO still has going for it is slightly above sub par writing.

ESO has gone in a Bold New Direction, the management at Zenimax Online Studios now wants that sweet, sweet WoW money. And we all know how well that worked out for Champions Online, Wildstar, Warhammer Online, et al, right?

So don't bother with ESO and ignore the promises made about it. It used to be a casual game, not any more.

After spending more than 8 months on this game and aprox 180$. I can say I gave this game a fair chance so my review counts for something. So here we go...

When you first log on, you appreciate and marvel at the density of this game. The big towns and the architecture and lore lead you to believe this game is going to be epic. It looks really good on the outside. In addition, you realise you aren't leveling up your character without purpose: you will eventually go PvP so it makes feel like a huge world.

    The problem?

It's kind of boring... no actually it's really boring. After 10-20 hours of constant questing and repeat fetch quests, kill quests... you start to get a sense that this is really just a chore. The novelty of the world and the MMORPG aspect start to dwindle as you realise there is no real social community. It's just a single player mmorpg where you grind out quests...repeatedly...over and over again.

Then you get to PvP and think... well it's a realm versus realm game. It should be epic and have nostalgia factor of being part of a big universe. Then.... you realise it's just a HUGE map but it looks very bland and boring. You just end up doing another version of.... run for 4-5 minutes to get to a fight... die. Repeat until you realise how boring it really is. There's nothing about the world pvp that is engaging or fascinating. I remember the old days when I played Dark Age of Camelot. Pvp was never boring, it was extremely exciting and nerve wrecking. You felt you were part of a real community.. a living world. But in ESO, it's just a plain map with keeps and you drudge through the terrain to get to another one and join the zerg. There's nothing there... after the novelty wears off. It's boring as hell... Another aspect that ruins this game is the PvP mechanics are heavily based on getting stunned repeatedly. It's quite annoying and you get stunned virtually every 2-3 seconds in a fight. Finally, it seems EVERYONE wants to be a Nightblade. They are incredibly overpowered. They will virtually vanish constantly as soon as they die and come back to full health. It would be ok if they died faster but no they are just as tanky as you lol.

In summary, I spent alot of money and time playing this game but as I reached level 40, I realised I was bored to death. The Dialogue from the quests are just that...dialogue. There's nothing there.

You want an MMORPG, go play something on PC where people actually use the chat bar and where the world feels like a living and breathing universe.... But on console MMORPGs are bland and boring, lonely experience.

Like most of the disappointed players I expected something more Skyrimish and less mmoish. There's a good deal of storytelling, and the music is great, but the gameplay is utterly boring, and the graphics don't impress that much. Stay away if you expect an Elder Scrolls game. If you're a fan of the series, grab a discount like I did, it's actually worth a few bucks - but not more.

You know how at the Redbox they'll have a famous movie like (for example) Saving Private Ryan, then they'll also have a Russian knock-off called Rescuing Sergeant Johnson or something? This is the Russian knock-off to a game like World of Warcraft. The exact same gameplay, but in the Elder Scrolls environment. Character classes and skills make zero difference because the game scales the difficulty based on what level you are anyway. It is suspiciously impossible to find enemies that are a much lower or higher level than you. You will never find that one great piece of equipment because it might throw you outside of the difficulty band Bethesda carefully manufactured for you. The game is a horribly disappointing walk through missions and locations forced to be the exact right difficulty. You simply pound your different attack buttons to kill the enemies fed to you and pick up the gear they drop which is either your level or one level above you, but is never magical or unique. The flash and sparkle of crafting, other characters, big cities, the auction house and other MMORPG staples will hold you over, but after about ten hours the curtain is lifted and you realize the game is not challenging; it never lets you fail, but it also never gives you any moments of glory. Items are uninteresting. Missions are uninteresting. Let's just try again on the Elder Scrolls 6, shall we?

So why only 5 points? The game is a mix of Skyrim and an MMO, for an MMO it is too much singleplayer based, for a singleplayer game the story and landscape are too repetitive and boring after a while. Technically it is far away from the stability of an MMO like i.e. FFX14.

Since 2 years the company "invents the game ever new", means doing nothing for a while, then change everything, with new and old bugs and many unbalances coming up. Then again sits there and does nothing, while trying to invent ESO new if playerbase goes down again. This game does the company since launch while ESO became more and more instable and a technical desaster.

If you see ESO in a special offer for like 9.95 give it a try. For some time it will sure be entertaining and it is absolutely playable without Sub or buying anything else. But i fear most people will be disappointed after playing for a while....

It is painfully difficult to find groups for the dungeons and trials. The group finder tool does not work for dungeons, and not many people on console are attempting to do the trials (equivalent to raids in WoW) on console. You are level with that struggle as well as an annoying crafting system that time gates you on incredibly long research for end game gear, where it'll literally take at times 30+ days to finish one item research.

This is in order to coerce you into their fee structure. If you pay their monthly fees, you will level at an appropriate pace to have access to the game. This is annying and under handed. I mean, hey, if you want to make it a 'pay to play' structure, go ahead. But pretending it is not a 'pay to play' structure, when in practical terms, it is a pay to play MMO, this is really really mean, and greedy. The game itself, until level 10, is a good game with good stories, but it is wrapped up in a fee structure that is disingenuous. It is similar to Star Wars the Old Republic in that both espouse a free play model, when in fact they are not free. In order to really level up enough to have access to the world and its stories, you must pay the monthly fee. So to sum up, if you want to pay to play , then this game is good and quite fun. Between clunky controls, a surprising lack of features, and the gutting of everything that made Elder Scrolls interesting I don't see how anyone can give this game a mark above 5.

Rather than variety, everything in the game is cookie cutter and boring. No more intuitive combat system with criticals, no more stealth viability, and goodbye to ranged in general. How do you take a game where ranged meant ranged, and make it so bows and spells only reach a couple feet further than a spear swing? Oh right- you make it a cookie cutter WoW clone.

The trading system is obtuse on PC, but in ps4 with zero chat support it's downright atrocious. How do you make a game where trading relies on more personal interactions, and not have any form of chat box. At least on PC you could reliably trade. Oh, but they're adding a chat box- for a companion app. Why!? Keep in game features IN GAME, what is this Destiny?

The store is one of the worst parts. Items have menus and sub menus, sometimes, but it's unreliable, and the confirm buy button is the same as the 'try on' wardrobe feature, making it painfully easy to lose real money due to lag or double pressing- problems the game is now famous for. No store should be this bad- if you buy something in an mmo like SWTOR on their shop, it goes to a store 'mailbox' where you can choose to refund it immediately, completely eradicating the possibility of errors.

It gets worse though- if you do make an error due to their poorly made store- they REFUSE TO REFUND YOU. You can put in a ticket detailing the mistake and they will not refund the crowns spent- it's not even you asking for your money back, but the currency you buy with money. That's downright shady, and perhaps the worst customer service I have ever seen in a AAA title.

The game is buggy, you start to suffer more and more loading time issues the higher level you get- not unlike Skyrim, but in this case there's really no excuse.

The combat itself is clunky and simple, making it grow very, very boring very, very quickly. I'll give some credit to a more in depth crafting system.

If you want a very poorly made WoW clone with atrocious customer support and none of the features that make MMOs more convenient and tolerable- this game's for you. If you were hoping for Skyrim online, this game is absolutely nothing like it. At least the PC version has the option for mods, and the social experience is there.

Graphically- look at the glass armour for my opinion on this. It's not even remotely green, did Zenimax even look at the source material? It might be an ok game if they hadn't focused on making everything look as bland and ugly as possible. This is the ps4, I don't care if it's an mmo it shouldn't look this bad. The worst part is the animations- I haven't seem anything this stiff since WAR, and that game fell apart in a year.

I feel pretty generous giving this game a 1/10. It's playable, though not enjoyable, it might get a 2 or 3 but I always take away marks when customer service is this bad and their poorly designed game literally costs people money that they don't even entertain refunding. May there be better parts later on? Perhaps, but after I reach double digit hours on a game, if there's not a single thing worth praising I'm not going to keep going in the hopes of finding it.

Paid subscription hell no!! A year down the line it got released for the PS4 and the subscription fee was scrapped. Still wasn't interested because I've been hearing so much negatives. But due to extreme boredom on PS4 I finally brought myself to get it. So first off, let me list what's negative about the game that still exist with the PS4 version.

    Cons:
    - Graphics are pretty dated. More like PS3 graphics. And no you listen, graphics do matter!!!!
    - Overall feel is very generic. NPCs and environment are bland, lacking in personality, absolutely nothing that stands out really. Most characters and places look the same.
    - Playing quests as a group is a huge facepalm. Grouping simply means, you are not playing in that same quest but instead, you and other players are playing your own solo quests at the same time same place.
    - Lots of uninteresting and fetch quests, and it's very likely you may get lost or not entirely understand the story as there is a lot to take it. You can't possibly remember everyone or everything. In the end you'd probably don't care.
    - Finding ingredients is very difficult and tedious. They are sparely spread out and I just don't have the patience.
    - Earning gold isn't easy and in the end there's nothing worthwhile to buy besides a mount, or pack capacity. No houses to buy, no nice outfits etc, nothing =(
-the crown store is way overpriced. $10 for a dress? (that comes with no perks)

So...then... why do I play this game daily for over a month now and loving it??? Well, as I said, if you're big fan of the series, get it!! Like if you're a fan of Romance of the Three Kingdoms, you'd get the Dynasty Warriors series. If you're willing to look past the cons I've mentioned, the game has lots to offer. Hundreds of hours of gameplay. The map is huge and levelling up as you explore/complete quests across Tamriel is so fun and addictive. You'll be unlocking new skills which allows you to make the ultimate character of your choice and liking. Character creation is quite detailed and you can create good looking characters (unlike in Skyrim/Fallout). The game is being updated constantly with new contents, so there's lots of potential here. Zenimax Online, please don't be afraid to try out new ideas and be creative. And try not to screw us over with ridiculous BS pricing. If your content is worth it, then I'll gladly pay for it. Otherwise, your game will never excel.

Anyway, overall I'm freaking addicted to this game. If you're not a super fan of the series, get it during a sale. Otherwise, you owe it yourself to try this game out!!! =)

Alright, I'm going back to playing.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited is an MMO take on the popular RPG series, The Elder Scrolls. Although it may have many similarities and differences to previous titles, it's still a great game in it's own unique way.

It's important to note that this game won't be to everyones liking. It places the natural elements of the traditionally popular RPG, and puts them down in a completely new environment - filled with multiple-played populated cities, cooperative dungeons, and lots of highly strategic-yet-enjoyable PvP.

This game surrounds itself in the lore of TES extremely well, with readable books that help you to understand the complexity of the world. Additionally, the NPC's are voiced, which helps to emerse you and make the world seem more believable as you run around, slay monsters, and pretty much do everyone else's 'fetch' quests.

The level of development for characters in ESO is also pretty varied. When you start the game, you will pick from four classes. However, as is natural in a TES game, these classes do not restrict your equipment or weapons, instead they provide you with individual, yet very useful skill lines, of which you can grow as you level up.

In terms of the 'MMO' side of things, the game seems to be lacking slightly. The grouping system seems ineffective at times, and there is no real way to socialize with other players - apart from voice chat. There are your typical 'guilds' however, yet these are essential if you wish to auction your hard-earned gear in replacement for something better, as there are no auction houses anywhere!

Dungeons and PvP can be a varied experience as well. Although it can be rewarding to strategically kill your first boss amongst your friends and other group members, the game really lacks any risk-vs-reward payment for all your hard earned work. Expect bosses to be dropping nothing but loose change, and the occasional green item, as these will most likely be all you get - as the XP rewarded isn't much to write home about either...
In terms of PvP, the game can be quite fun. It's hard to contain the level of excitement you get from a massive PvP encounter, as they are often quite hectic and crazy. However, it can be a pain to die; just to have to run for 20 minutes to find another encounter.

This game will be most enjoyable if you have friends to play it with though. The quests can be a blast, and offer better story telling and interaction, compared to more traditional MMO games. Although the combat is different, and done using a hotbar system, there's still more involvement from the player, as you have to time blocks, parry, and dodge AoE attacks. Just dont expect this to play like Skyrim or Oblivion.

Overall, the game is great. If you are a massive fan of TES lore, or are looking for a new game to play with your friends, then you'll most likely enjoy this too. However if you're more of a single player focused player who's more intrested in intense action games, or perhaps not an MMO fan, you might want to give this a miss.

While the game play was fun, it got old extremely quick. The story was just absolutely dull. Nothing like a real Elder Scrolls game. I had a hard time even getting to the end-game because the questing becomes so monotonous that I could barely stand to start a new map and just run to 50 different little things, do one or two quests and move on. Eventually, you just stop caring...

Questing is as generic as it gets with MMOs; voice acting is frustrating since you can probably read a lot faster than they are speaking. After the first few mundane hours of listening to a crappy script read-through, I found myself skipping all the voice acting and having no idea what I'm fetching and for whom - which comprises around 99% of the quests. Combat - generic plus a manual aim crosshair which was /shrug worthy, PvP - maps too big and really unsatisfying. Graphics - nice, but too much glow effects makes it feel like a cartoon and not anything like the bleak/darkness typically seen in the Elder Scrolls Saga.

TLDR - Game was a little late to the MMO party and brings nothing new. Plenty of completely free to play games on PC which have been around for years do a better job. If you like MMOs, play one you already have. If you like Elder Scrolls, sorry, you're **** outta luck

There is the occasional boss that doesn't want to spawn, and every now and again you can't get the the usable item promp to appear to open a door, or manipulate an item so you have to re-log, but overall its been a pretty bug-free experience for me. I've been moderately hooked for well over a month now. The only part that really bothers me is that all the quests seem to be localized to their immediate areas and there isn't much challenge to them. The veteran level dungeons are a different story all-together though. Their difficulty has kept my interest along with the massive variety of crafting options. Not the best MMO I've ever played, but quite enjoyable. Solid 8! Might be a 9 if they can figure a way to keep the potty-mouth losers off their mics in the major hubs. My kids will not play this game. A worthy purchase for adults.

Again for the readers sake I will list my cons first then my pros. Cons- 16gb patch to get started playing. That can be a bit daunting for someone who thought they were going to pop the disc in and be playing within an hour. The next con I would have to list is the way hit frames. Im not sure if i should complain about the frames or the small amount of lag but I have had multiple times where the latency is just barely keeping my opponent out of range while their moving even if im following right behind them. My last con worth listing is the trading. There really needs to be some type of free market instead of having guilds with vendors. It is creating an environment where you have to have huge guilds to afford the vendor. We didn't get our normal vendor location this week even with a 815k gold bid. Pros - Its a very good quality MMO that has constant development with no forced subscription. You can play at the absolute top level in this game with no subscription. Yes there are small perks to premium but nothing that gives an unfair competitive advantage. Also keeping in mind this is an MMO it looks amazing. I did not think the PS4 had the hardware to run the game as well as it does. Even in large towns where there are 50+ people in one building you get amazing looking textures on everyone's armor. The story and voice acting are also very good. There are so many games out there that just have you read through conversations where as almost every single npc in ESO talks with multiple lines of dialogue. For those of us who really enjoy immersion this is a great way to keep the experience going. Overall no the game is not perfect but it is definitely better then what the critics sid. Expand

But anyway, have a ps4 and eventually got a curious what the game would be like and how an mmo would play on a console. While i first started, i thought it was an ok game, but now several weeks further, i can honestly say i'm becoming completely addicted again. And me becoming addicted to an mmo hasn't happened since the early years of Wow. There's so much to do, i love it that all quests have voice acting, so you don't just click away the quests and start grinding. The combat is a lot of fun, something which was lacking for me in many mmo's. And the mix of singleplayer and multiplayer content is just right. And it all just plays amazingly well on console, which i didn't expect. I highly recommend this if you're looking for an mmo with tons of content. They also made a very good decision by dropping the subscription. While it does feel like an elder scrolls game in some areas, it's still an mmo. dont jump in and expect a skyrim or oblivion. But i'm pleasantly surprised it worked out so well. Expand

I'm unsure as to why, as I appreciate that the Witcher 3 is an immense, huge and well built game / world. But I didn't fall in love with it and found myself looking to sell after weeks.

So, instead I bought ESO Crown edition from GAME (currently £29.99) and it's been a great purchase!

I'm sure people reading this will already have played either Oblivion or Skyrim, if not a Fallout game. Returning to Bethesda there's that familiarity with the options and style. The questing and NPCs feel very familiar as does the early weapon choices.

A lot of reviews seem to express how this is bad MMO because you can do a lot solo. This is the users own fault and NOT that of ESO. A big part of an MMO is community and what you put into it. I found a UK based forum whereby I talked to a few guys and got invited to their Guild, and will look to use that, but, I've yet to team up with anyone from my guild. Why? Because it's a great community and while my character is only lvl 11, I am often invited to groups and only last night spent 2 hours running around doing my missions with 2 German women who's English was far greater than my German. The community is there for grabs and very welcoming, anyone thats sulking that it's a solo game is simply not putting in the effort.

Size: Of course it matters in this day and age. All RPGs must be significantly more expansive than the last or somehow it fails. I'll be honest I'm only in the 1st region, and it's big. I zoom out on the map and see the whole of Tamriel and I think "this could take a year" .. .and it probably could. A guild master I speak to is 1000 hours in already and said the game doesn't even open up fully till after 200hrs+ .. .and I'm really excited by this.

The game would be pap though if it was all scale and no content. And ESO delivers well in that department also. Sure, fetch quests and travelling back to a character just to complete the mission becomes a norm, but it's an RPG and doesn't upset the normal routines of RPG grinding. Thankfully, the fighting system makes it worth while, whilst it's also received some bad reviews, and perhaps I'd had to long a wait since Skyrim, but it's good fun. At level 15 I will be able to pick 2 weapons into battle (so I can change between a 2 handed weapon say and a bow during battle). This will add more freedom to my fighting style.

Spending money: The Crown pack I bought allowed me to be any race in any alliance and also started me with 1500 coins. I used these to buy a mount. Very handy as they get you from A to B just that little faster without the constant small gold expense of fast travelling. Most stuff you can buy from the crown store are just for looks. There's a few things to help you gain XP faster or skills faster, but these are just time savers and I've kept away from them.

    Bugs:
So pre buying the game I was anticipating some really dodgy bugs and quest bugs etc. So far, very little has gone wrong. I've had one experience of my character not walking but gliding over the landscape, which after hitting OPTIONS and returning to gameplay it had sorted. And yes, there's going to be times your in a group area and an enemy is going to re spawn on you, and it can be fatal when caught off-guard... but thats part and parcel of an MMO. People would be outraged if enemies where permanently killed after all (!) meaning there's nothing to fight!

Levelling: Obviously a major part of any MMORPG. And it's immense again. Without a good levelling system an RPG can harm enthusiasm, and ESO has what I can only describe as the most detailed levelling system I have ever used. Which is no bad thing. Alike Skyrim, there's a bunch of classes, race related, guild related and alliance related. Each skill set has numerous special abilities to unlock which can be assigned to the hotkeys for use. I've only just started the crafting skill sets but so far, so good. It doesn't lose anything from Skyrim, just adding more to the party.

Overall ESO is a beautiful and brilliant MMO on the PS4. Having played a good while within FF A Realm Reborn, I've instantly preferred this game based on the lore and familiarity of the ES series. However, it is what it is. Don't buy this expecting Skyrim 2, don't buy this if you don't like joining others in quests (you dont have to mic up - there's an endless amount of gestures you can hotkey for easy conversation during exploring or dungeons) and there's a huge community of players who will happily welcome 1 more to their parties. If scale is your thing and looking for something to consume a lot of hours for your money, then look no further. Fair enough it's only been out since June 15 on PS4, but no one has achieved any of the ultra rare trophies.

Graphics are ok. I expected better but their not too bad. Vegetation doesnt look too good. Having said that, I knew that going in. As far as mmorpgs go the graphics are really good relative to other mmorpgs, so I give eso credit here. Bethesda made skyrim and skyrims graphics are way better. You can do a lot more with single player games then u can with mmorpgs graphics wise.

Dungeons - All the random people going in and out of dungeons sort of kills the experience for me. Its different running dungeons with a party set up beforehand entering dungeons with a maximum set on the number of players that can enter dungeons. But, with all these random players running in and out and all over the place, I didnt really have much fun in the dungs.

The abilities are really fun, I enjoyed that part of it. I was playing a nightblade and I think they made that class really well.

I picked up this mmorpg so I could enjoy the game with other people. But with the game being limited to voice chat, its just annoying, so I decided to play solo but then realized I might as well play a solo game like witcher 3 or something that has way better graphics, and doesnt have random players all over the dungeons Im doing.

Still a huge fan of Bethesda :D loved oblivion and skyrim!

Let me start by saying i think this game looks incredible, the music, the areas etc. but one thing right off the bat made me disappointed. The health bars, the experience bar all the bar placements in this game are horrible, where is the small map? to make questing a sinch rather then constantly having to pop up the map on the screen. Questing is terrible way to much text, i understand they want the user to be in to the story but come on, id almost rather the usual go kill 10 boars in the field and collecting plants. Theres a very simple formula to games like these and i understand each one wants to have there own identity, but there should be some rules they must follow. The screen isnt even cluttered the interface could have been way better. And wheres the dungeon ques? or group que questing? how about inspecting other players? im sorry im not trying to make this the new Warcraft but they could have easily used that as a good reference tool this game is just to bland. When i see other high level players thats the only thing that makes me want to get further in the game, getting awesome looking gear. So it might be just worth it. All I can say is this is a very mundane game and tends to be buggy at times.
I've played worse games but after Oblivion and Skyrim this is quite a let down.

Thats like writing a review on a football game but you don't like football. If you don't understand what the term MMORPG means, then don't write a negative review on this game (this is for you Reieto). You people sound stupid comparing this game to another game in another genre. Yes, i played Skyrim...awesome game in its own right. But Skyrim is not a MMO, just like ESO is not a single player game. Also, Skyrim was not online, so all these complaints about graphics and feel of the game, you didn't play Skyrim on a server with others sharing your world. So graphics were not gonna be strained by outside sources. Duh!! Now, back to review:

This game by far is the best looking MMORPG on PS4. DC Universe does not look this good, FFXIV doesn't have the amount of detain this game has. I can literally sit in one place and watch the sun rise and set, watch weather gradually change from sunny to overcast to raining/storming, watching clouds roll across the sky. Environment looks amazing, especially compared to other MMO's out on PS4. (Skyrim is not an MMO, stop comparing this game to that game). The lighting is superb, character designs are very good, and its completely voice-acted. How many other MMO can say that?

The story is good as well, but what I like about the storytelling and the quest that many other MMO's(looking at you FFXIV) don't accomplish is the feeling that your choices changes part of the story and the landscape of the game. I have a choice, do I save the spirits of a town from eternal damnation, but in doing so allow the town to be a danger to the living(monsters and such inhabit the town), or do I allow the spirits no rest, which prevents other demons and monsters from staying, making the town safe for travelers. You don't get that in other MMO now. I feel like my choices matter, as though I'm living in the game world, not just following a story that Im just along for the ride.

Gameplay is good. It could be better, but it works for this game. I've played other MMO where you just select a rotation of skills and spam them all day. This game is more action-oriented but there is still more strategy and customization in you character than the other big MMO RPG out. The fact I can have my mage wear full body armor or have my tank rocking a bow, the roles aren't determined by the race and weapon equipped more so than how you build your character and what skills you have equipped.

The world is huge, the amount of things to do is enormous, and its fun. And its free. I get more from this game as a free sub than I get paying 14.99/month for FFXIV. Based on that, this game gets a 8/10

The elder scrolls online: tamriel unlimited is not necessarily a bad game. That's not to say it's good either. While I did find myself having fun at most times, I also felt fairly dissapointed.

Now, the first thing that I think of when I hear "elder scrolls", and I'm sure most can agree, is a big, sprawling open world, with many creatures and characters. While this is certainly present in tamriel unlimited, i found this one more boring than most elder scrolls games. The characters didn't seem as rich and 3 dimensional as background characters in, say, skyrim or oblivion. Another thing that I didn't really see happening as much, is just walking around and discovering some random location, a thing that made exploring worthwhile. But, the soundtrack is amazing, as with most elder scrolls games, which makes exploring still feel like an amazing trek.

The story, while not as great as it honestly could have been, was still engaging enough to make me put many, many hours into the game. I can also say, that some of the characters are really well voice acted. On the other hand, some are really badly acted. But that didn't stop me from enjoying the plot that they weaved. Also, like any elder scrolls game, there are hundreds of side quests to participate in across the map. But, unlike skyrim, these consist of either go fetch something, or go beat up a group of people, sometimes both. I only did these to gain extra experience.

The gameplay is the same as it ever was. Pick a weapon, and spam that weapon as you run around like a madman. It's not much different, but it works. I personally enjoy attacking from afar with a bow and arrow, being stealth-like. Those who know me personally know I love stealth, and that's pretty much how I went about the game. For me, it never gets old. Overall, gameplay is the same as ever, very good.

While I did not enjoy everything about ESO, I still very much had fun most of the way through. 6/10

It's suppose to be boring and it's suppose to make you wait for long periods watching load screens. The inventory is a mess because everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, is lumped together in "inventory". I actually pulled out Skyrim and began enjoying that because there is just enough resemblance here that makes you wish you were actually playing a real Elder Scrolls game. Did I mention it's an MMO? It is not because the game play was slow, it was because I found a huge hole in the game that renders its core game mechanic pointless. After I escaped the prison, I wandered around and killed random creatures, and after about 30 minutes, I found that I leveled up four times without even noticing. That is when it hit me: if I can level up this fast just by prancing around with the other million people in the world, what is the point of having quests to complete. I know that I am not the only one leveling up this quickly because I found that my friend was up to level 40 after about a week. Unless he had been playing non-stop the entire time, I find the leveling system to be somewhat offset. Sure there is some fun game play if you get into it, but I just find no point to this game. Pure suck. This game sucks hard. Luckily i played it for free and did not waste any of my money on it the plot is stupid you just run around hack and slash pick up this piece of bread I'll join your quest if you do 5 quest for me just terrible there's a way to put it. There's a lot better games out there for a lot less money go buy one of those.

There were 2 games that I wanted when I bought my PS4, Destiny and Elder Scrolls Online, so I was disappointed when Elder Scrolls came out on the PC but not consoles. I bought it on PC anyway and absolutely hated it. Then it came out on the PS4 and I thought I'd leave it alone, but I didn't, I bought it. Quietly. Without letting anyone know. In case it was still a pile of **** It wasn't. It began the same way, in the same area but once I was lose in Tamriel the real fun began. This was what I was expecting last year! A fun experience set in the Elder Scrolls Universe. I was a third of the way through the Witcher 3 when I bought this. Sadly Geralt can wait. I love this game. The quests that lure you in, the voice acting, the music, the graphics, the distant hills and mountains that you can walk to, the crafting, the enchanting, the "feeling" of power in the magic strikes, the plots. I haven't even begun with the PVP or specialised in a guild tree or any of that yet. This is just a great piece of entertainment that takes you along for the ride. And unlike Destiny, I don't have to do the same thing over and over and over again. Any undecideds out there, jump in it's awesome. (I'm actually considering taking out the ESO Plus subscription I like it that much). Love the references to all the other Elder Scrolls areas, that are so familiar from playing the other games, love the lore, the books, the hints to the hidden treasures...I could go on. I thought FF14 ARR was good, this, is even better as far as I'm concerned. Can't wait to get back to Ebonheart. Expand

This game is full of gameplay you'd still expect from Elder Scrolls. Tamriel is a great game with lots of upgrades and entertainment for multiplayer online. There's a few bugs and repetitive elements, but still lots of fun. Definitely a game anyone would enjoy.

How this game has received all of the high scores I will not know. This game has so much wrong with it 5000 characters is not nearly enough. If you're looking forward to having a horse to ride through the dull and empty lands of Tamriel you'll be disappointed since bosses and some enemies will drop 1-3 gold but no worry, Zenimax was kind enough to allow you to pay them more in order to get more gold with godd*** microtransactions. The games one saving grace is it's pvp and faction battles which are really fun. That is the only reason that this game barely got a 6 out of 10 in my opinion along with decent and fun pve too. I wouldn't waste the $60 on this game but instead go out and buy Skyrim or Fallout which are 100x better than this terribly mmo. Expand

Pretty much the usual MMO fare here. Talk to characters, do their fetch/kill quests, talk to characters again. I will say it's great to have an MMO where you can freely experiment with different weapons/skills. As a mage, you arent restricted to staves and spells, you could wear heavy armor and use swords if you prefer.

But it feels much more grindy if you arent an ESO Plus subscriber,

But it feels much more grindy if you arent an ESO Plus subscriber, since a lot of progress is slowed way down. The in-game price for a mount is absurdly high, I guess that's why the Crown Store was put into play. Text chat would've been nice to keep in the console versions as VOIP is a hassle to get working and also not everyone likes using microphones, especially when a lot of what's asked of you in this MMO doesnt require much strategy.

My biggest gripe would have to be the very limited action bar, it just sucks to relegate myself to a few spells/abilities because my bar is full. At level15 you get a weapon swap mechanic that gives you a second action bar to work with, but the weapon swap feels completely unreliable during combat and it just becomes another hassle.

    Overall, a mediocre MMO.

A couple of lines of dialogue can often be all you’re given before being plunged into whatever mundane task is expected of you; rare are the significant characters and even rarer are the ones you care about. It just doesn’t maintain the same depth of exploration or profundity that the series is known for, leading to a much quicker-paced Elder Scrolls experience.

Even simple quests cause a chain reaction of new incidents and it's possible to see how the player affects Tamriel. But if you expect something like Skyrim with coop-mode you still have to wait for another game.

This is a nice RPG and a bad MMO. The game is playable without subscriptions and it offers a lot of content to explore. Playing together with other gamers still is not really working properly. It is too bad this game does not impress, even though the development system for characters and the PvP are fun.
