Life Is Strange gets a major upgrade in terms of visuals and dialogue, but even with all-new characters the same charm and emotional heart shines through.

The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit is a short but dense prequel, which introduces interesting characters, even if the game mechanics are too anchored to the past.

Captain Spirit sets the mood for Life is Strange 2 and makes a great character of Chris. We want to know more about him and about Captain Spirit because the prologue also feels clumsy in its dialogues and narrative (maybe because of the time that last).

Simple and almost trivial at first sight, The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit lets the player be amazed by being so accurate. Life is Strange 2's introduction chapter gives us a glimpse of one little boy's boring Saturday morning being transformed into a space odyssey thanks to the power of imagination. Neither surprising nor challenging, the game will still easily deserves another playthrough for those whom want to witness every situation it has to offer. Too bad Captain Spirit lacks delicacy in so many ways.

I wouldn't exactly go so far as to call it 'awesome', it's more of an okay adventure set within an engrossing world that continues to go from strength to strength. As someone who values a game's plot, I was able to forgive some of Captain Spirit's inadequacies while I expect others might not be as magnanimous. I can say that the episode itself and its uplifting cliffhanger have left me wanting more of the indomitable Chris and his Captain Spirit.

The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit is a small taste of the main dish. It's short and experimental, yes, but it's also free, and the decisions and actions made here will carry over into Life is Strange 2, so any Dontnod fan shouldn't miss this little story.

Captain Spirit is only clumsy occasionally; as a whole it is affecting, sweet and memorable. It is a free taster of a forthcoming game from the same developer, Life Is Strange 2, but more than just an advert or a demo, it is its own short story about an everyday tragedy.

The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit thoughtfully examines a troubled childhood through the eyes of the 10-year-old living it. This non-linear episode encourages you to explore, refraining from beating you over the head with its difficult subject matter. It’s building into something, and it’s hard to determine exactly what that is with DONTNOD being so coy about its plans for the sequel. You need to really dig into this to get anything out of it, and while we found the backstories of the small cast to be well thought out, it’s hard to know what purpose they will serve yet.

If there’s one thing Dontnod is good at, it’s creating characters that you grow to care about. Chris is destined to become a fan-favorite right up there with Chloe and Max. In that way, Captain Spirit is a perfect tease: I spent such little time with Chris that I can’t wait for more in season 2.

By the end, I was disgusted, angry, and exhausted. An uncommon set of emotions for a game you’d want to recommend to other people, even if they bounced off Life Is Strange.

The Awesome Adventure of Captain spirit is a free to play prequel to life is strange 2..
The decisions you make here will carry over into that game… but I didn’t really find much deciding to be done here other than 1 or 2 moments in this 2 hour game
I went in with high hopes for the awesome adventures of captain spirit, I loved life is strange and bits of before the storm…
the game starts with promise as you’re describing the type of super hero your want captain spirit to be..
This isn’t your typical life is strange episode though..
This game takes place all in one area… the home and yard of 10 year old Chris.. aka captain spirit…
it’s a Saturday and you have a list of awesome things to do.. there are also tons of not so awesome things to do like the laundry and dishes…
there is a story to uncover here.. the emotion youre used to from this series is here and im excited to see where this story goes or how it ties into life is strange 2 as we don’t know who that game is all about, though after playing through captain spirit I have a few hunches…
unfortunately though the awesome adventure if captain spirit just doesn’t capitalize on the idea of childhood imagination..
this is a nostalgia trip as youre playing with your figures.. but where the game lets me down are the rugrat like moments where youre immersed in chris imagination..
these moments are just extremely brief practically interactive cutscenes where you mash a button and that’s it..
there wasn’t really a wow this is a neat game moment for me…
The awesome Adventures of Captain spirit is free so theres really nothing to lose by checking it out.. just don’t go in with crazy expectations to see something cool and unique.. this is more of a story teaser than anything else.
I give The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit
    a 6.5/10

Even though it's just a free demo to prepare us for LiS 2, Captain Spirit is detailed to the brim, with it's own little story to tell.
