Tennis World Tour 2 is a solid all-round tennis game, and the inclusion of the wildcard system offers an additional and entertaining tactical layer to consider as you play. It's just a shame that some minor issues hold it back from being great.

Tennis World Tour 2 captures the flow of real-world tennis well, but that comes with a steep timing-based learning curve. Overcome it, and you’ll be rewarded with a deep skill-based gameplay experience, that’s elevated by a strategic deck building accompaniment. There’s inconsistency to the presentation, with some awkward animations, physics, and art direction decisions – but the campaign is entertaining and online play will add longevity. As it stands, it’s the best tennis game currently available on the PS4, but there’s still room for further improvement here.

Tennis World Tour 2 may look like a simple update, but proves to be a really deep overhaul, both from a qualitative and quantitative point of view. That translates into a much punchier feel with a more authentic rendering overall, thanks to a subtle management of timing and faults. While some lingering assistance still generates imprecision, filling such loopholes surely belongs to Big Ant's work. The Australian studio thus shaped the best tennis simulation on current consoles at least, because of far more experienced competitors on PC. Hence Nacon can develop legitimate eSports ambitions, as long as it stands away from balance or greedy issues through an artificial cards system for instance.

A good tennis simulation that, despite a few flaws and frustrating controls, has managed to achieve a much better result than the original game.

Tennis World Tour 2 is sadly yet another modern tennis game that falls short. Despite bringing Big Ant over from AO Tennis 2, the game ends up burdened by poor execution and gameplay. Even at a budget price, consider holding off until future patches potentially address these also expand the legends roster.

This seems like a franchise on the right track now but there’s a long road ahead before it can match and compete with other top sporting videogames.

Ultimately, Tennis World Tour 2 succeeds in what it sets out to accomplish. The authentic look and feel of the entire game is something that hardcore fans of the sport can appreciate. Unfortunately, the game is also limited in that same sense, as the learning curve prevents more casual players from taking the court in a quickly accessible way. That said, if you’re willing to stick with it, Tennis World Tour 2 serves as an overall satisfying tennis title.

Tennis World Tour 2 has come a long way from the previous opus, with the use of timing-based gameplay. Lots of it is still wrong, from the ball physics to the way players slide on the ground, but the improvement is so massive that we're actually expecting to see a Tennis World Tour 3.

Tennis World Tour 2 lacks focus and due to this, the game lingers in mediocrity. With inconsistent AI, a harsh timing mechanic paired with a stat-boosting card system, the game will turn away both hardcore and casual fans. Unfortunately, this is a double fault for the Tennis World Tour franchise.

Tennis fans are so limited these days, and Tennis World Tour 2 does not deliver enough to consider it a great game. Too many graphical glitches, inconsistencies across the board in terms of gameplay and the wider matchday details, copy-pasted player physiques and complete lack of personalised shots, a shoehorned mid-match card feature that only distracts - oh, and locking major tournaments and courts behind day one DLC are just some of the reasons Big Ant Studios double faults with this one. With more time, care, and no doubt a bigger budget, something decent could arise, because the makings are there, but patches might not be enough, and focus now might be better spent on a hopeful third game.

There's quite a lot of content here, though just one out of four Grand Slam titles is hard to swallow. As you start playing, however, you'll find that there's a lot more wrong with this game. The clunky controls never give you the feeling that you're actually in control of what you're doing, while the severely mediocre graphics are only passable from a distance. Shame.

And yet another lackluster Tennis game. A lot of stars are playable, but the presentation is stiff and the mechanics are almost like the players are on rails.

Tennis World Tour 2 offers some changes and improvements to the original game, as well as a bunch of licenses for pro players. However, the gameplay core is still rooted in the original game and fails to offer a satisfying experience. Tennis World Tour completes the double fault initiated in 2018.

A highly unsatisfying and directionless tennis game, with an abysmal character creator and career mode. Steer well clear and buy AO Tennis 2, bizarrely made by the exact same team responsible for this monstrosity.

As it stands Tennis World Tour 2 has a chance to wear you out more than an actual game of tennis.

Tennis World Tour 2 is a great example of how not to make a tennis game. Virtua Tennis on a Dreamcast VMU gives a more satisfying experience. It fails wholesale to learn the lessons of the game it's a sequel to and isn't much fun to play. At least there's no microtransactions.

Tennis World Tour 2 is a game that could have been something special but holds itself back with its gameplay. In contrast, I was impressed with the menu's overall layout, the music that played as I got ready, and the speedy load times; all of that went away as soon as I had to start actually playing the game. One can hope that future tennis games will find the perfect balance between capturing the essence of the sport and providing fun gameplay to the consumer at home, but Tennis World Tour 2 could not do either.
