Streets of Rage 4 looks great, sounds excellent, controls just like the previous games, but beyond that, it is awful.

I cut my teeth on the originals when I was a teenager. This title is nothing like them. Let's talk about the length of each level in story mode. They are a joke. Sure it's a beat'em up, but 5 minutes to clear an entire stage? Really? $25 bucks for this? At least in

I cut my teeth on the originals when I was a teenager. This title is nothing like them.

Let's talk about the length of each level in story mode. They are a joke. Sure it's a beat'em up, but 5 minutes to clear an entire stage? Really? $25 bucks for this? At least in previous games, levels had 2-4 parts with mid-bosses and an apparent ending fight. This has been none of that.

Then there's the zoom-in, which is awful and claustrophobic. Get ready for roughly 40% of the room to fight on vs. the originals. You're going to get crowded real fast with enemy UI so smart that they zone-read you all the time, making combat insufferably annoying. Not fun, not challenging, Unfun.

You are woefully unprepared to deal with enemy attacks. Again, in previous games the with having so much room to move around each screen, avoiding attacks by LOS was easy. Here though, you don't have that, and there is no block, and you'll be stunned so much because by it. User damage output is underwhelming while AI is over-tooled, which leads me to my next point...

    Normal is broken.

Don't give me the "get gud" argument, there is a ridiculous amount of enemy damage upscaling on normal that the game is just unplayable. When your down 80% health on the 1st screen from the basic give and take from combat, you done goofed. And I think the devs knew this because of the absurd amounts of food spawns there are. Even Bosses have food spawns. Cut enemy damage output by 30% and food spawns by 50%, and you have yourself a workable title. In a beat'em up, there should be in the moment strategizing on when to pick up food or not. This is awful design. Forget the levels of difficulty, I like my sanity.

As for easy, it's a joke.

This is in no way worth $25. This is, at most, $10. But I did get one thing out of this game that ended up being a positive point. This is the last game I'm buying that's cashing in on my nostalgia. No more remakes, reboots. No more 20+ year sequels, I'm done.

Truly awful, I have never been so disappointed with a game purchase. The developers forgot to balance the game, deaths rarely feel fair. no co op to 4 players online in 2020? The style is fine, the story is bad and some changes are good but it feels very mediocre.

Lots of lag in the online mode, tons of things that need to be reworked. Health scaling for enemies makes them complete sponges in difficulties hardest and mania. The game came out on sale and for good reasoning. The enemies become very gimmicky as they get new variations throughout later levels, the game feels more like a jumping simulator than a beat em up. Sad to say that I did not find the game enjoyable after 7 play through. The music is very good, I did like some of the super power moves but the moves are extremely weak. They offer star bonuses for people to not use the stars but the bonus is so minuscule it’s best to use them. Expand

A serious disappointment considering just how great Sonic Mania and Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap were. No parrying, running or even sidestepping...which would be fine if the enemies and bosses weren’t designed around being able to do all of these things. The end result is a cheap, frustrating experience that pales in comparison to the original trilogy as well as its contemporaries. Do yourself a favor and buy Fight ‘n’ Rage instead- it’s a true evolution of the brawler formula and is challenging without resorting to **** If the Streets of Rage name wasn’t (wrongfully) attached to this lackluster title...I guarantee you it wouldn’t be getting the scores I’ve been seeing it get. Game is too repetitive, and the gameplay is slow for almost all the characters. Also, I didnt like the sound of fits and kicks from modern chars, it sounds empy, and you can see the difference with retro characters with a much better sound.

Game overrated by the press and nostalgia, you have to be objective, it is a very regular game for today, it is disappointing, simply not being able to run and roll already screw you, then how heavy and long it is, without alternative or final routes to play again, secret characters that seem to have been placed there by modders, because those pixelated characters don't match theGame overrated by the press and nostalgia, you have to be objective, it is a very regular game for today, it is disappointing, simply not being able to run and roll already screw you, then how heavy and long it is, without alternative or final routes to play again, secret characters that seem to have been placed there by modders, because those pixelated characters don't match the aesthetics of the game, so how unbalanced they are Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game lives and breaths on nostalgia and its predecessors legacy. Ive been looking forward to this game for over a year, and was highly disappointed. Picture completing a 1-2 hour game, and that last, final punch resulting in... credits. Unlockables? Sprites from previous games. Dashing? Maybe some characters.. everyone else moves at a snail pace. .. invisibility frames, super armored enemies, little to nothing to work towards.. can honestly say this was the worst $25 > ever spent Expand

Tutto quello che si può chiedere ad un beat em up : ottimi artwork di scenari e personaggi, musica coinvolgente, difficoltà molto ben tarata e tante, tante mazzate!

Streets of Rage 4 offers a varied and fun beat'em up, with a wide variety of game modes that can be enjoyed both alone and in company. If you are fans of the genre, this is your title.

Streets of Rage 4 is not here to redefine the genre. It’s here to give fans something they have waited over 2 decades for and it doesn’t disappoint.

Streets of Rage is a declaration of love for Segas's Beat 'em Up classic and skillfully transports the game's principle into the modern age.
