Worst business model of all time (as of now, all content costs $200 MINIMUM, more if you didn't buy the "Season Pass" (more like "Character Pass for this season")), content differences between PS4 and PC now. Go to Hell, Capcom.

Poor poor sequel to a great game !

So my favourite game franchise just went awful what the hell happened since street fighter 4 ?? So Street FIghter has gone thru many changes, and number 4 was a where i last played and liked it. It looke dgood, flowed smoothly and had some good on and offline game modes to master. Then this happened? take out some nice parts of 4, add new ones

It looke dgood, flowed smoothly and had some good on and offline game modes to master.

Then this happened? take out some nice parts of 4, add new ones that are so so ( meh ), then make it almost exclusively online.
    um, why?
Servers need to be spot on for this to be effective, and they never are, even now.

The biggest insult is the mortal kombat inspired single player, that came as DLC.
its utterly crap. Un fluidic and so badly scripted, cut scene after cut scene leading to a 1 round match, and then repeat. with loading. and loading, and ugh.

Its a great looking game, fights can be intense, and i find the only decent and challenging part of the entire game is the survival 10, 30 50 or 100 rounds, with booosts in between. That i do like, but it cant save the game.
New charactors were nicely done, but this game needed some things to stay the same as it was.
Feels as let down for the single player as Soulcalibur 5 was, and hoping rest.of the game keeps us going, but like Soul Cal'

Im scoring low because even though the game looks pretty, has same Street fighter vibe, its los tout by online only and awful single player DLC to try top boost it.

Since it came out unfinished several months ago we were promised a well polished cinematic story mode in June and now that it's finally arrived a month late its awful. The characters are dull and uninteresting, the voice acting is often bad and the writing is horrendous.

The choice of characters is very limited at this point and if you must have this game i recommend that you understand that Capcom is playing the long game by slowly releasing characters one at a time in season passes so they make more money off the masses you are suckered into this game. So far of this first season I am only hype for Juri and Ibuki and who knows how much longer its going to take for Juri to drop. Every character has been released late so whenever it does happen i am expecting it to be a month later than that. I recommend waiting to buy this game when season 2 is announced and seeing if there is a special edition online version with all the season one dlc in the future.

The one good this is the characters feel different when you play them but its Street Fighter. Their not going to feel radically different from one another. Also i've heard they fixed the netcode but i don't play too much online so I personally don't give a **** about that.

There is no arcade mode. Instead there are small story modes where you just mash crouching jab like mike ross playing Balrog and you can win every match. To unlock costume colors who have to play survival mode which is akin to having your teeth pulled out.

In short buy Ultra Street Fighter 4 or Third Strike until Capcom makes amends with this game. Also WHEN TEKKEN.

What a mess this game turned out to be. Where to begin...

    - There is no proper arcade mode. Instead, there is a crippled introductory "story" mode and a proper single player story mode that's way too long and repetitive (Karin over, and over, and over again) ... if you like Mortal Kombat styled single player mode where it just seems to go on forever - it's in there. If you however expect a normal arcade mode where it gives you a bunch of random characters to fight and a rival or boss end battle, you can forget about it.
    - The netcode is inferior to SF4's netcode. That should be saying something. I know "experts" will say GGPO is superior, but it's not. It's dog **** compared to SF4's netcode. Rollback is the dumbest mechanic ever. Skipping frames altogether so it skips like a bad COD game is equally annoying. It's supposed to freeze like it did in SF4. That way you know exactly what's going on and if the connection's ass - it's ass. And that's fine. We know the internet isn't a perfect medium to play games on. Bad netcode breaks otherwise good games.
    - The waiting. The endless waiting. Waiting. Waiiiiitiiiiiiiiiiiing. Do I annoy you yet? Waiiiiiiiiiiiiitiiiiiiiiiiing. That nuisance you're feeling right now is the nuisance you will feel while playing this game online. Between finding an opponent (which in and of itself can take minutes!!) and being able to control your character in Round 1 takes around a minute if not longer. That is clearly unacceptable. It is also not a loading problem as you can test this by playing Survival Mode and checking how long it takes to change background places every 5 matches. Online, they put ARTIFICIAL delay in. So it is DELIBERATE. They DELIBERATELY make you wait. Every. single. time. Not frame delay, but seconds of delay for fluff. For nothing. For a f-cking globe that's spinning, here comes a new challenger, fade to white. This is the main reason I hate this game. The only way I can manage to not lose my mind while playing it is do other stuff on a laptop and casually listen to hurt sounds because I'm getting my ass handed to me after eons of "loading" time. This is a fighting game. Action. It's supposed to be fast at everything. Not some MGS snoozefest where you have to wait and wait some more for nothing. It's like Capcom forgot what genre this is and what the audience expects.
    - When playing ranked, you can't select a character prior to the match. Instead, you have to select the character you want to stick with with SEVERAL buttons and MENUS before it's changed. This blew my mind. The whole menu system is f-cked. I have no nicer word for it. They actively choose to make things as obscure is possible where you're looking for the right game mode, settings, preferences etc. This isn't a "git gud" scenario. Menus shouldn't be a chore to learn as if it's some grind to excellence. Discerning people may pose the argument that selecting a character each time prior to the actual match slows the process down and they may point to the previous point I made, and technically they would be right. However, the way SF4 dealt with this is still much faster in seconds to gameplay than this monstrosity. I have no problem with sacrificing up to 5 seconds selecting a character to play. I do have a problem with minutes of waiting for no reason whatsoever every single time. AVGN says it best with his catchphrase: What were they thinking?!
    - Communication: There is none. We're back to the Stone Age. You can't message people if you don't know their real nickname on PSN. For some retarded reason they thought it'd be a great idea to give us an alias. This means you can't trash talk, ask questions, add friends. It is impossible to add an opponent you met to your friends list. How backward is that! Honestly! The closest to this feature is adding a Favorite from within the game so you can see their recordings and shoot them invites if they're on, but it is a far cry from what it's supposed to be like. Let's reinvent the wheel, guys! **** (c) 2016 Capcom
    - This is a minor gripe I guess but it is a very real nuisance: whenever you're at the Results screen, the PS4 fan will go bonkers. It will rev up to probably 70% or even 100% until you hit X to return to menu. Now, read my lips: There is NO reason. NO. REASON. For it to rev up like
that. It is a match result screen. It puts zero strain onto the console to keep that screen up. There is no animation, there is no loading, NOTHING. And yet the PS4 sounds like an F16 about to take off. This is an issue that's been around since the game's inception as far as I can tell.
    - After picking the low hanging fruit for easy Fight Money (do all the easy stuff to get in-game currency) it dries up and there's no quick way to get extra money besides grinding it out for hours to get a meager 1000 FM by levelling up a character. One character costs 100.000 FM, mind. So that's 200 hours to buy one character with FM. -character limit reached-

The game is completely broken, online is terrible for a game that focus in online multiplayer and ranked matches. If youre in Australia the server matchmaking links you with some1 who is in Mexico, is bizarre.

I wont be playing the game anymore because its one of the games I hoped to be good because im a fan of the franchise. But its just broken garbage, it wont be good, never.

If your really going to buy this game get it used because at least you can save money on disappointment.

If your a pro fighting gamer then your probably playing it on the PC, but if you are a casual there is nothing here for you! Yes, they have added a story but in my opinion it wasn't worth the weight and it will keep you interested if you have never owned a TV or played a game with a compelling storyline.

The fighting is great but it takes a lot of learning to get good at and start putting combos together that are fun and easy to do and personally I find it horrible to play on a PS4 controller so get a fighting pad (thats if your willing to spend that much money after Capcom has pulled such a classic cash grab). If you want to get better at the fighting you will have to play online and have a really good internet connection otherwise your goner hate the s*** out of this game because there is no arcade mode to learn as your favourite characters but there is a good training mode but lets be honest it gets boring beating the s*** out of the AI without it out stopping the game.

Story is weak in all aspects so how does the game modes line up? Well they don't, cause there all getting patched in later when and if the developer wants to add them but at the moment there is nothing, unless you want to count that survival mode where you must fight 100 guys but if you lose once you better get ready for them thrilling 99 rounds of the same repeated opponents speaking of opponents lets get to the roster

With games making such huge leaps in story telling and gameplay these days with loads amount of content meaning the 20% of every game you have ever played you would expect huge line of characters to fight as in this game or at least loads of modes since its such a high profile fighter game as street fighter? You would be wrong if you thought that, in fact you would be wrong even if you expected average. BUT DONT WORRY GUYS CAPCOM ARE PATCHING IN MORE CHARACTERS WITH FREE UPDATES... how often are these updates? Oh there once a month and how many do they add? Oh only one with any game modes? naaaaaah no worries didn't need them anyway

In fact am going to leave it here otherwise am going to fly to japan with the game disc carve it into a shiv and held the devs at ransom with demands of making this game a free to play release and give everyone there money back! Capcom have **** up again and hopefully this company goes down under soon because its given birth to some of my favourite franchises such as Devil May Cry, Resident Evil and Dead Rising and now its killing them all and hopefully we will see them sell of these IP's to much better developers and publishers.

Capcom's seasonal release DLC characters/stages/costumes/colours/everything **** else is yet another money grab from publishers to sap as much as they possibly can without any give or support to the player or community (excluding the capcom pro tour).

The game offers the player very little in terms of any solo-play features; favoring multi-player in every possible way, even the character story mode and free DLC story really just accentuates the money grabbing repugnance of DLCs characters and the sheer lack abd idiocy of the base characters by making you play them very briefly in a headbangingly generic story filled with very little.. ANYTHING. The only thing that can making the pain in your forehead worse from bashing your head off the closest thing in sight is the lack of an Arcade Mode. Replaced with the utter atrocity that is Survival Mode - a mode so infuriating and boring that every character you do this with you end up hating more and more after every victory.

Even character exclusion and appeal to an newer community can be excused; however there is no way to justify paying 1/10th of game's value just for one character (without any of the alternative costumes; that if you would like to get, you either are forced to pay for it or forced to grind for hours just to get). Or even 1/3rd of the games base price just for one season's pass, meaning that with the release of every season you will need to buy another season pass topping the value that you are spending on this inadequacy of a game to ridiculous levels (and don't even get me started on alternative colours).

My aspirations for this game were cut short with the release of Season's Two Akuma and changes to Ryu as the multi-player feel that every second player has watched the same tutorial on how to play the game. If the sudden realisation that this is only going to get worse, haven't hit, the sour taste in your mouth after another 6 seasons of spending money on characters just to play a game that should have been available on day one release should.

    TL;DR: G I V E U S O U R F U C K I N G A R C A D E M O D E & S T O P M A K I N G U S P A Y T O P L A Y.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Street Fighter 5 has great mechanics and adds a brand new look to the franchise. It’s clearly a evolution in terms of visuals compared to Ultra/Arcade/Super Street Fighter 4 but the game lacks in most of the basic aspects expected by any player who already knew the series.
What people been saying about a bare-boned release is true, the game had a full price at launch (when I bought cause i’m a fan) but the content was almost exactly like the beta test. So disappointing.
Capcom made the game intended for online playing and maybe that is the reason of it having almost nothing to do offline for six months besides a very hard survival mode that can let you down in a few minutes and a history intro for each character that you can finish quicker than finding an online match.
The net code doesn’t work properly as well, as it has been eight months since the launch and most of the players still have problems finding a good connection at the battle lounge and – at least for me – they insist in matching me in with far away opponents so the connection is never the best and when i fight someone from my country the connection is not good either (and believe, the problem is not my connection since other games works pretty fine).
The game could be very good in the future and I truly hope it turns out to be as such but for now Capcom didn’t repay all the frustration gamers had along the way of 8 months.

Netcode is absolute trash, resulting in laggy matches that you're penalized for leaving early with a 24 hour time-out and a massive PP loss, making the game a complete waste of time.

The visuals are fine and stylized. The combat as smooth and fluid. But that's about it. The money-sucking Capcom is at it again with charging $60 for an unfinished product. Similar to how they had content already on the disc at release locked behind a paywall in Street Fighter X Tekken.

The game was released with an incredibly small roster, incredibly small stage selection, no story mode, and still no arcade mode an entire year later. I bought this game earlier this year for $15 on ebay and still felt incredibly ripped off despite what had been added by then. I can't imagine how angry I would've been if I had paid full price on release day.

While I definitely am one to prefer quality over quantity, the low quantity lacks any quality as well. Street Fighter V does nothing to grow the fighting game genre which is already having plenty of trouble on its own. The greediness of Capcom will be the death of them soon if they keep this up. Even if you're a massive fan of fighting games, I recommend skipping this one.

Street Fighter V is at the same time, a game that revolutionizes the franchise for the current trend (online) and a real disaster for the old guard of casual fans (offline). After the hype soon after its announcement, what was seen at the launch was a game with a full price ($60 USD) but unfinished, without content but online. This situation caused huge frustration to the fans who made SF the most important franchise of fighting games.

It is clear that the franchise could not fail to be part of the online gaming revolution that is happening (long time ago actually) but almost abandoning the offline mode for casual players brought terrible reception to the game that, except by the "nonsense" contentless, is a great game with an incredible gameplay (in my opinion better than SF IV but still so far for the best SF in terms of gameplay ever released, SF III).

As I said, its qualities are its competitive mode (when the server works, of course) and its gameplay. There are exciting new features, new skills and a drastic change in the style of classic characters, which caused some displeasure but brought new perspectives. However, its qualities end here.

Among its many weaknesses, there is the terrible choice of turning SF V into seasons. What initially seems like a good idea to keep the game always interesting, is a bad business for needing to buy season pass over the years. I'm not totally against games with season pass but if the idea was to do this, it's absurdly unfair to sell it a full price of the game at its launch. It'll be fair costs about $20 at the launch and the other $40 would come for at least the first two seasons (the others seasons could be a bonus additions). The justification for this is its second biggest weakness: the F*** 'fight money' (FM). Again, if we it were fair there would be no problems but Capcom's greed is something that always surprises negatively. Basically it is possible to buy all the additional content of the game using only the game money. The problem is that to make enough money you must be a PRO player (what 95% of players aren't) or you simply spend real money. This pathetic situation is identical to the online mode of GTA V. It makes you think that the company cares about the player giving him the opportunity to get everything "for free" but, in fact, it makes the game's content inaccessible to a huge part of fans forcing them to spend even more real money. Something that should be abominable by everybody is still defended by crazy fanboys, even if that most part of them can not even achieve enough FM to get the full content of the game.

Other negative aspects are technical aspects. Even the graphics being beautiful - which is an obligation with the capacity of the current generation -, the exaggerated cartoon style causes bizarre situations. It is not uncommon seeing hair or part of the fighter's costume to go through them bodies. The scenarios are very beautiful but they've to be bought as well (absurd). The alternative costumes are great and bad at the same time. Great because they offer good options like the classics (always the best) and terrible cause there are plenty of nonsense costumes with no relation with the characters (gangsta Ryu for example).

More negatives are the arcade mode finals (which came as a free DLC a long time after the original release), which are just a frame with a simple art (and dubious taste). The story mode has very fast fights and, most of the time, put in the game only as a pretext to justify being a fighting game, including the poor script - which is not uncommon in the series that always has a simple-bad plot.

The game is a landmark in the franchise. It has the great initiative to introduce even more the franchise to the competitive (what I do not like but it is very very necessary in the present days) and brings great gameplay, making the game really addictive. At the same time, it is the worst SF ever released in terms of content and (lack of) characters available available to casual gamers since SF 1 (1987).

If you are an almost pro player, very competitive and a long-time fan of the franchise, it is mandatory. But if you are part of the vast majority of casual player, it is not recommended (unfortunately). Street Fighter V became a niche game (for pro and online players) inside a niche (fighting games) of industry.

un pedazo de mierda, que se corona como la representacion de la codicia de las compañias de video juegos. que solo buscan sacar dinero de manera descarada a los jugadores que aman a los video juegos.

Thought I'd wait for a year until initial gripes and dust had cleared. In it's starting months I'd have given this fighter a 6 due to the skeletal release, but feeling confident it would improve through sheer loyalty to the Street Fighter franchise. (As a fan of 2D fighters over 3D, Street Fighter IV blew me away with how impressive an effort it put out).

A year later... and unfortunately the score has gradually dropped with each few months for me. The enjoyment never lasts, even when the temptation to come back via a new update or character reveal is made by Capcom. Balance issues were rarely fixed, lag and server problems are never ending and have wrecked any will to take the game online, leaving just a story mode and survival mode that feels below par compared to SFV's predecessors. Heck, if they keep this up with lack of communication as well, Street Fighter 2010 may become the least stressful out of the two!

If you haven't got it yet, avoid and go for Tekken 7 or Injustice 2 for a more fulfilling experience. If you own it but were turned away or haven't played it in a few months, there is no reason to come back. I've heard the phrase 'never left beta' thrown about and I have to agree with this one. Never reached its true potential. A real shame for the franchise.

This game is Street Fighter "Early Access". This game doesn't have so much content when it was released. I was actually pissed when this game cost 60$ at release. I think that it was overpriced at launch and it was lacking of content.

The game had 16 playable characters at launch. Street Fighter IV had 25 characters at launch. More characters will come as patch updates. You can get the characters by buying them with "Fight Money", or you can buy them with season pass which is pointless. The season pass include te DLC characters that you can actually get it free, if you're a idiot who waste the money on a season pass that you will get the DLC characters free.
The season pass also include a PS4 theme, but I don't know how that theme is. The game had 16 playable characters at launch. Street Fighter IV had 25 characters at launch, which is disappointing.

Does it mean that the game is bad? No, I think that the game is actually okay. The game-play is great, but I like the game-play of the Street Fighter IV better.
    The graphics is good.
They also include cross-platform that you can play against PC players which is a great thing.
The DLC will come as patch updates instead that they will make "Super Street Fighter 5" and all that crap. The game also had "Z money". It's like Microtransaction like "Riot points" in League of Legends. Z money was supposed to make you buy Z money that you can buy the DLC characters, but they decided to remove it. Later they made a mode named "Challenge". It's like trials in Street Fighter IV

    Pros:
    - Game-play is great as ever
    - Graphics are great
    - Cross-platform with PC
    - DLC as updates (except the "Premium" costumes
    - Z money removed

    Cons:
    - Not finished
    - No Arcade mode
    - 16 Characters at release (22 with the upcoming patches)
    - Story at release is short AF
    - No mode that you can fight against AI (except Story and Training)
    - Overpriced at launch
    - Season pass is pointless

To be honest I will give this game a 6/10 so far. I was thinking about 4/10 at launch, because of the lacking of content and the "Story" at launch. When the patches came it got improved and I began to like the game even more.
I will later write another review next year to see how Street Fighter V has changed.

And guess what, they eat it up!! Honestly, I know Capcom at this point. They'll release a Super and maybe even an ultra version. Those versions will have a completed story mode, etc.

On the brighter side of things, Capcom has fully embraced the Udon Comics universe with the games. (SFIV did, but it seems that the expanded universe is what they are going off of now) Personally, I LOVED the comics and it was a welcome sight to see what little story was given to be showcased. Hopefully more will be given in due time.

As for the gameplay, it's sharp as always...the low rating mainly because Capcom gives us a rough stone and expects us to cut it into a diamond. Sorry dude, we are the consumers and your audience; want to keep us onboard, stop screwing us.

  1. There’s a great game in Street Fighter V, but only if you’re willing to learn the hard way. Capcom will need more than the few thousand competitors following the Capcom Pro Tour to make this game, and the series as a whole, sustainable for the future.

Everything that I didn’t like about SFIV is gone, leaving a deep yet easy to grasp, spectacular game. [04/2016, p.34]

Despite simplistic single-player and feeble tutorials, SFV is a completely essential fighting game. [Apr 2016, p.70]
