    Definitely not perfect, but close enough. For a cheap price this little gem holds a whole lot of hours of gameplay. I got a motorboat, a gyrocopter, and all the food and water I could wish for. The people rating this low, did not spend enough time getting to know the game mechanics. I'm fighting sharks, catching lionfishs, living the life! 30 in-game days in, and still got PLENTY of hoursDefinitely not perfect, but close enough.     One of the most unique gaming experiences I’ve had in a while. Takes me back to the days of my Amiga when I’d get a genuine feeling of excitement from something that felt truly original. This game won’t suit everyone I’m certain but I found it a refreshing play.

    sadly... this feels like budgeted game, but the price is fair. there are much richer and more AAA quality of survival games. Its pitty, I was quite looking forward to it and buy it day one. I am changing my mind, the game is somehow unique and although its not perfect (more tutorial will be fine, or at least more description) it really offers new experience you can not have from NO other survival game. I liked that if I was frustrated, it was because of my mistakes, not the game one. I did not have single bug, created structures are doing exactly what they should (I just did not understand how things works firsts and blame the game that water catcher is not working (it was haha) - creating water is easy once doing right things :) Now I have enough water (how much i want without some effort) and some lower quality of food for every day and doing expeditions to other islands. Oh boy, it actally is GOOD, relaxin, fun , mysterious...! For 20eur definately recommended, experimenting is part of the experience. I am really happy that I did not stop to play early in game, this game offers quite a lot. I am enjoying sunny days in my new safe house and conquering at least for now small creatures and westher. There is a looot in front of me and I can not wait to play again. The game never crashed, never, so its quite done executed. Fps is sometimes and some situatiins lower and stutter here and there for one second and this could be improved, but its not distracting It IS unique, buy it. 8.5/10 It already gives ma back more hours of fun, than several full priced AAA games.… Expand

    Game is fun. Could be better w graphics and controls. A little to easy. Could use multiplayer or stranded w friend n coop. Would be nice.

    i left a very negative review of this game on release which was based on around 10 minutes' gameplay and never leaving the starting island. Having given this game a second chance recently I now feel my initial reaction was completely unfair and I've been completely hooked since picking it up again.     This game surprised me. It has good graphics, the gameplay is good (engine can be improved) and in general it can be much more improved. I hope the developers continue with this game.

    This game is great! Very enjoyable gameplay mechanics, fun exploration, base-building, and even boss fights. Definitely more of an indie title with a bit of jank, but still a great game and often on sale.

    In my opinion, Stranded Deep is an enjoyable and relaxing title that is certainly worth a try if you're into this kind of game.
    When the game begins, you are guided by a tutorial to get you going. After that you rely on your crafting menu to give you your sense of direction. For instance, crafting a water still will be one of the first things you'll be wanting to do, as you cannot rely on coconuts too much, not for drinking nor for eating. I read comments on how people say the water still does not produce water, but it needs fibrous leaves or palm fronds to work. The former is the better choice as these leaves reproduce after a day or two. For food you can catch fish, crabs, birds, you can kill boars, snakes etc.
    Around every island you can spot sunken wrecks where you can dive to and collect different materials. Beware though of sharks that can appear at any time.
    When you've built a raft you can go and explore the other islands. The map is a 5x5 grid with 21 islands, 3 boss areas and one area where you need to go for the ending part.
    A tip for when using the raft: make sure to attach an anchor to it so that you can lower it just off the beach in the shallow parts instead of sailing onto the beach itself. The raft will stay in place in the water and you can easily take off again. Otherwise you always have to drag it back into the water and position the nose away from the land, which can be a hassle. Also there are big rocks in the shallows where your raft can get stuck on and that's even more annoying. Just use your anchor not too far out when approaching an island and you'll be good.
    If you want to go faster than the speed the sail has to offer, you can also craft a boat engine or even a gyrocopter, but I find the fuel consumption to be rather high, so I personally stick to using a sail.
    I also recommend saving regularly. You can get poisoned if you're not careful and having to then go look for the cure on other islands when you have none in stock can be a nuisance. A quick reload can remedy that. Also the game can crash now and then, even when trying to save, bringing you back to the Playstation menu.
    In the main menu of the game you can go to cartographer where you have the option to create new islands and replace them with islands already on your map. The advantage is that when you create these islands you can put everything you might be looking for on them. Just create an island with what you need and place it next to your home island, sail over there and collect! Afterwards you can easily replace it with another island with other stuff if you want.
    All in all I find Stranded Deep to be a worthwile survival game which could have gotten a point more if not for some flaws. If you're not a Metacritic crybaby, give this game a chance!    … Expand

    Some of the other reviews I've seen here criticizing the game have said things that are simply untrue: You can absolutely change the sensitivity of the camera movement, you can get water from a few different sources (it's tricky, though- again, the game is presenting a challenge, and maintaining a source of water and food is part of that challenge), and you CAN sleep for (most) of the nigh.

    Other things, however, are true: The game is glitchy in some places (twice now I've had a boar I was hunting just totally, graphically freak out and bounce all over the place). Hunting land-game in general is a bit clunky, although you don't really have to since crabs and fish are easily acquired. And it is true that sharks can throw you out of a boat.

    I agree the game requires more development, but a lot of the negative reviews I'm seeing here primarily seem to be complaining about the difficulty of the game and the lack of resources- and while difficulty is a legitimate reason to dislike a game, I'm pretty sure that's what the devs were going for in this case.    … Expand

    I got this game on PSplus and i only have one huge problem about this game.
    and that is the magnets trophy.

    soo you mess up an entire run of the game if you want too get the platinum
    soo i had too start a new game just for that trophy alone.
    Normally i hate survival games like this.
    and i think propably this game had alot more problems at launch.
    But i had alot of fun with it.
    i was stressed out, when taking the bosses.
    i would have wished that the entire survival aspect of the game was deeper then what it was.
    you where grinding the same thing over and over.
    and gathering materials too build stuff was simply not fun.
    overall if they made surviving in the area more "fun" wich in reality it should not be. but this is a game we should have fun. it would have been better.
    cheats would have been SUPERFUN in a console edition and would have made people play this game ALOT more.    … Expand

    Unfortunately was unable to play much as the game offers no option to invert Y axis on the right stick, and this is not something that can be done with the PS4 accessibility options. I really hope the developer continues to support this game, and hope more they will add some control options. I would note that if you need games to hold your hand through every aspect of gameplay, you may find this is too difficult for you. The initial tutorial is a bit spartan but I feel adds to the immersion (unless you are Bear Grylls crashing on an island you wont know much more than how to lash a rock toNot the greatest game in history or anything but very fun if you are into survival sims. It isn't difficult to see why some simply wouldn't enjoy this game as it is not the most polished thing out there and the learning curve is steep, but I would submit that as it was made by 2 people it really isn't as bad as Ive seen some claim (my opinion anyway). In summary this is a passable survival game that doesn't have a problem letting you figure out how to manage resources properly or die and does a decent job of simulating the loneliness and material hardship of being stranded in a Pacific archipelago, which I believe to have been the goal.… Expand

    An enjoyable survival experience. Not as good (and no way as sinister) as The Forest, but by no means a bad game. Passive mode (whilst not being 100% passive, lion fish) was preferable as the hidden snakes and sharks could be irritating. Not without fault, but fond memories and recommended.

    This game is exciting, I hope it will be regularly updated by the developers. There is some pretty lousy picture quality, however, as the game hasn't received a PS5 update. When I compare my image to those which play on PC, there is a difference.

Back then my first impressions were that this was a very promising way of scratching the whole survival-construction itch I've been having lately without having to switch to my PC or play The Forest again.     I first started playing this game back on April 21st when it first came to PS4. Back then my first impressions were that this was a very promising way of scratching the whole survival-construction itch I've been having lately without having to switch to my PC or play The Forest again.

    My first impressions were that the menu and UI interaction was rather poorly made, using the square button to toggle options and the X button to apply changes. This led to me loading up my game without changing some options. This menu system does not seem to have improved or changed during my most recent return to the game.

    Graphically, the game uses a gorgeous palette, and truly sets the mood of the game. However, there are several things which stand out. For example, the yucca plants are sometimes bugged out and spawn intersecting with other objects such as rocks and shrubs, thus making it difficult to harvest fibrous leaves which are used in the production of essentials in game. Also, when viewed at certain angles, plants and foliage can appear with unfinished textures.

    One of my faultless praises with the game are the water effects. It is next to Subnautica with the textures and I feel genuinely terrified when venturing between islands. Especially if my raft capsizes and I observe as my wooden box which I loaded onto it falls to the dark depths beneath me!

    This game has so much potential, and I feel like it would benefit if it introduced a multiplayer mode to allow you to work with friends to survive and build a sustainable home. The UI definitely requires an overhaul first though, and more controller tweaks and polish. After that, this game could be something much more.    … Expand

    Não é um jogo nota 10 mas traz desafios legais, a física do jogo tem coisas questionáveis, sem falar de um bug que aconteceu comigo onde salvei numa ilha com uma jangada e ao retornar as ilhas trocaram de posição e perdi a jangada com todos os itens que estavam nela.

Prepare to struggle against the controls for most of the game and when your not doing that you will be trying to find a work around for the numerous bugs that will make an already bad experience much worse.

    The tutorial is too short and gives you some basics but doesn't tell you key things that you need to survive right from the beginning. Then there are the sharks. Oh my god the sharks. In a game where resources are limited and few and far between you should not be punished with the extremely aggressive sharks that send you flying out of your raft every few minutes early game.

    Great fun game for the first 10hrs but once you prepared everything to travel to next island with your raft you'll never touch a island due to constantly crashing when nearing a island. A unplayable game for ps4. Not worth the money.

Grinding the base materials are also a pain in the back. Basic coop mechanics are just split screen and there is a lot of stuff that needs to be developed about it.     Um jogo com uma ideia bacana de sobrevivência. Porém... extremamente horrível no quesito jogabilidade, FPS, entre outros fatores. Joguei o game no PS5... parecia que estava rodando a 10 FPS. Decepcionado demais, pelo menos ganhei ele na PLUS. Com toda a certeza eu pediria reembolso se tivesse comprado. Tomara que lancem atualizações pra melhorar o desempenho e até mesmo a jogabilidadeUm jogo com uma ideia bacana de sobrevivência.     This game is clunky. Movement feels stiff and their isn't any way to change sensitivity. At times it doesn't feel responsive. Sometimes the character gets stuck walking over rocks and the screen moves backwards and forwards. The graphics are nothing exciting. The weather effects are dull. Swimming is fine except when you can't swim out of a window inside a sunken ship and end up drowning. You'll make mistakes and fail based on poor game design. It doesn't feel like a survival game. There is no real danger of not having enough resources and dying of dehydration. The game pushes you to move to island to island otherwise you run out of resources. You start off with some rations, you have coconuts, lots of trees, you can build a water mill and feed it palm leaves or whatever. Their is one resource used to make rope which takes forever to respawn. You need a lot of rope. You need it to make tools and to build your raft with the sails and the steering thing. You'll find yourself waiting it out until the plant re-spawns so you can collect the leaves to make the rope. You won't die of hunger because you can just go fishing with a stick.

    After many retries I finally set sail on my raft without a steering thing because I didn't want to wait out 3 in game days for the plant for the rope to re-spawn. So I jumped into the water to then dragged and moved the raft back into the direction of the island I wanted to get to. Getting back onto the raft isn't perfect to the point it's annoying. I got attacked by a shark and gave up.

    It's an interesting game because it has some bosses to fight and an endgame. You have to get to a ship or something and rebuild it to sail away to civilisation. Or theirs a plane, I don't remember. The maps are procedurally generated which is neat. But the game ends up getting boring very quickly. It loses momentum when you have to wait around for the plant for the rope to regrow.

    Who knows if this game is going to get patched. But right now, it's feels like a beta test. In one of my games I had the sound of underwater swimming playing all the time. Even when I was walking around on the beach. But it's clunky. When I set sail the movement while on the ship was jagged. The screen would move back and forth every so often. It's not a smooth experience gameplay wise. The inventory system is also unintuitive. It's annoying.

What came to my mind is, that Stranded Deep would probably work way better with Multiplayer - but there is no!!!     Bad performance on PS4 Pro and the graphics, meh. I dont know how the game is on PC but on PS4 it definitifly needs a lot of work to be really playable. The concept is nice and the things you COULD do if they would work are well thought. I wish this game will reach a playable state soon.

    Поиграл час и вышел. Кривенькая, картинка приятная - но средняя. Возможности вроде бы есть, а играть не интересно. FPS скачет. Напился кокосовой воды, заработал диарею и удалил.

    I play this game on ps4 pro, and while its may look like a crappy clay-mation movie, it's pretty fun. There is one glaring issue I have with the game and that is the consumables, like antidotes and sun block take twice as many herbs as they do on pc. If you step on a crown of thorns starfish that was tucked underneath the edge of a rock with only 3 centimeters of it showing, you'll have toI play this game on ps4 pro, and while its may look like a crappy clay-mation movie, it's pretty fun. Not only that, but the building is janky as heck, especially when it comes to rafts. I cannot expand my raft's width at all, but I can make it longer. I have never once seen that issue on pc.

    TL: DR Wanna play a survival game? pick a different one, cause this one is truly one of the most repetitive survival games I've played.    … Expand

    Not going to lie i had fun with it but to sum it all up... i hate squids for ever, the game defy all logic, sun goes down at 6pm in the pacific ? Why i have to farm making objects to get to the right level to fly away from that horrible game ? Why its so clunky ? The island maker doesnt work, too much bugs... stay away from it if you dont want to get addicted to that pile of trash

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Spoiler is that this game is a patchwork at best. It's targeting and interaction mechanics are absolutely terrible. This game has a lot of potential, so long as it gets patched and soon. It's a neat premise, although not very original.

Screen tearing, sub 20fps framerate, flickering graphics, crude looking models, unresponsive controls…. and this is on a PS4 Pro. It all looks so awful.     When you need a tutorial to understand the tutorial. Just terrible basic game design. Shouldn't happen, and early access is no excuse.

    At one stage it wouldn't move to the next one, because i had already built the item but because i didn't "pin" a certain thing the tutorial wasn't clever enough to understand it should move to the next part.     No wonder this was free on the PS Plus.. because no one in their right mind would willingly pay money for this.. on the console. if you did. Well... i'd be asking for my money back, or not tell a living soul that you did.

    The worst thing is, well the way the tutorial is presented to you. Looks lifted from the PC and then swear, they've photoshopped things like a "R1" button over the top of the PC key to try and make it ft. It looks wrong, and embarrassing. You cannot go back and battle the bosses again. Very fun game but completely disappointed in the lack of proper programming in a push to release this title. You should be issuing refunds or a fix for this terrible (glitchening) but fun game!!!!! What a waste of time and disappointment to all players. Ive researched this and its a wide spread issue between all game platforms. Shame on your programers for releasing this game with all its problems,,,,,if you ran a beta test, you would have known about this or you probably did and released it anyways…..GREED! I will be adding a copy of this email to all the gamer community threads about this game.

No you cant craft (item) because you've hacked down every palm sapling on the island, go find another island. No you can't cook the four fish you've caught at once, do it one at a time because reasons. Looking around underwater? Every shark in the archipelago is coming to eat you even though real sharks don't like the taste of human meat. You want to make (X)? Too bad, your skill is too low! Waste your precious resources crafting random crap. Oh dear a snake bit you, drop everything and island hop for plants or you'll inevitably die. No you can't store your resources, drop em all in a big pile on the beach. Want to be able to make planks? Craft two expensive axes and immediately lose both of them for some reason. No you can't walk up those stairs or climb that ladder, are you insane my god the danger! And that's all assuming the myriad of physics bugs don't activate and launch your raft into the stratosphere and strand you in the ocean.
    And no, game promotional materials, it won't result in a different experience every time you play. You'll be hunting the exact same resources across effectively the same islands surrounded by the same wrecks to build the same items every time. There is no true variability.
    Once you're established, you're not going to die. I had enough food for two weeks stocked up just from my island and the four I could see from its shores.

    Travel is annoying. Enjoy five minutes of doing absolutely nothing as you slowly wait for the wind to carry you between islands. If you haven't realized you can build container shelves on your raft (you're never told you can build furniture on rafts), enjoy your lack of inventory space cutting every island trip short. If you travel more than one island away and have to leave your computer to do something for a while, enjoy having extreme difficulty figuring out how to get to your home island. The -only- navigational tool is a compass, which relies on your own memory to retrace your steps. You can physics your raft to travel quickly by nudging it with objects.
    And then we have my final play with the game. I just raided two island and a boat, had an inventory full of full crates and a raft of filled crates, and my raft got snagged on the boat. I went to flick my raft off the boat but somehow it flipped completely upside down. While trying to turn it right side up through physics **** the raft and I flew into the sky. I broke my leg, and the raft began drifting away upside down. I went to swim after it and immediately got grabbed by a shark. Welp, there goes three hours down the drain because you can only save at your shelter. No thank you, Stranded Deep, you can stay uninstalled.

    In short: A gigantic ball of frustration, physics problems, a totally effortless main survival loop, and an !!!==ABSOLUTELY GARBAGE==!!! save system that punishes you for exploring and wastes your time for the tiniest mistake, even those that aren't your fault. This is 2021 for god's sake. There is NO REASON to keep me from saving when I want. People have lives outside video games, Beam Team. I shouldn't have to leave a game open for twelve hours because I need to sleep and work but can't save.    … Expand

    Stranded Deep was quite fun for the first hour or so, alone or with friends. After my friend and I played for around 3 days, we began to realize how poorly designed the game was. Hard to move, can’t back paddle, flips over regularly either at night when you are in the middle of the sea by a shark, or randomly when dragging the thing back to the water. Also the days/nights go by fast, and would have preferred longer days, and nights where I get the option of making my character sleep. But no, I have to stay awake in the complete darkness waiting for the sun the come back...

    Only an hour of play and I have already regretted buying this terrible, terrible, terrible game.

    Please save yourself money that could be better spent on other games, groceries, or renting/buying some movies on Amazon!

X (ps4) is used to skip cinematics (good) then X again used to skip hints (usually it's a L1 and R1 in other games but whatever), then X again to start (okay but I had to press it several times after prompted) then the main menu has a strange layout, looking left to right there is yourJust no. Now for some reason X is used to skip this whole scene and go directly into gameplay, and having been trained so far to press X to do things it's easy to skip right over the gameplay settings so you basically have to restart the game and when you get to the same screen press Square to change things. Finally when the game starts, your 1st person camera movement is incredibly sluggish and lags behind your inputs. When you make it to the progression trigger of the next sequence the change is so abrupt, followed by a loading screen, I though I had died and the game was reloading. From there I'm on a raft struggling with the camera and pop up hints, I finally got an paddle in my hand and rowed to shore, but incapable of exiting the raft. I pressed every button, there was no onscreen hint... but this time I gave up, having zero faith that things would improve from this point. It's like whoever approved the controls had never played a game with a controller before. Also the whole UI felt amateurish. Hate to be this harsh, it's a great concept and I wanted to give it a chance, but first impressions mean a lot.… Expand

    Where to begin? First of all it takes an age for the game to load, which is a shock as the game looks and plays like something you might have seen on the PlayStation 1. The graphics at best are terrible, the sound is boring, the lighting is poor and the animation/movement is jerky and clunky. Even as a free game, this is not worth it. It's a waste of hard disk space.

In order to progress the crafting tree to allow the construction of a water trap requires crafting several tools and items most of which require rope from fibrous leaves. By the time the water trap is unlocked there is no more fibrous leaves to use to craft it. In some forums it says these will grow back so I waited 3 days in game for 3 plam tree saplings each producing one fibrous leaf after collecting the first one my knife broke now I have to expel another 4 fibrous leaves for a new knife and nothing from the Yucca tree during this time still as I write this nothing from that tree. The option to sleep away the time is limited so with a lack of resources all I can really do is stand here, wait and hope as the guys vitals slowly drop. I can’t even class this as a game at the min it’s pretty un-fun to play and appears very poorly balanced. Some may say it’s a sim but a balance has to be struck for the game itself to survive on console, I mean anybody buying this at the min on PS4 has to be pretty pissed waiting 3 days in game to craft something only to not get enough resources is not fun at all its among the bleakest experiences I’ve had with a game ever. I am unsure how to progress and assistance from PC users doesn’t seem to cross over to PS4 the in game tutorial is dog **** and the controls are very clunky. Needs work from the dev team to survive as a game outside of the PC world at-least on PC they can fix it themselves on console we are stuck with hope that the dev team see and listen to forums and feedback.     But there's a bug that doesn't allow me to pick up anything, I can't cut trees, can do anything when this bug appears. It's so sad. The game is good but so many ridiculous bugs.

    I literally made a Metacritic account for this review. I am never one to write reviews but here I am after spending $30 on this game. After watching the misleading PS4 launch trailer it looked spectacular but never in my life have I been lied to as much as that video.

    Secondly the amount of BUGS and poor game design is unbelievable. Not sure if this was a bad port to the console cause apparently the PC version is good but the console is just utter trash. The game stutters as you walk around and over objects, graphics are appalling, it literally feels like it was made by a group of university students for their final project. The amount of bugs that you will find in this game is just laughable, they are stealing consumers money with the pricepoint of $30. I had a slither of hope that I wasn't making an impulse purchase and now I have learnt my lesson from misleading reveal and announcement trailers that make it look so flashy.

    Thirdly sound is just so recycled, only ever here like 2 different variations of game music and its the same boring crap. I actually play with the game muted its so much better.

    Fourthly the game is just boring, combine all of my points together and its just a waste of time.

    Conclusion save your money until they fix and polish this game up because it is honestly no where near the $30 they are charging you for. It feels like an Early Alpha game or in Beta testing at the least.    … Expand

Beyond that to my horror I found out I was not able to change the race of my character. I am proud to be an African American. My people survived through slavery and oppression and are currently managing systemic racism day to day and refuse to play as a white supremacist. Why did the devs think that only white people can fly in planes and survive on an island. As a full blooded African American sub male, female dominant, male I feel that I too can survive on an island. I hope the developers can stop being so sexist and racists and find it in there hearts to expand their minds and make all people feel comfortable playing their game. Until they do so I am boycotting this game and hope you all do that same.

Do sticks come from trees? Apparently not. “I found a tree!” I say to the game. “Not good enough. Keep wandering.” Says Stranded Deep. I found plenty of other random things, but any time I picked one up I had to drop something else. Eventually I found a second stick. How exciting! I used the sticks and rocks to make a sharper rock, I guess, and then cut up a tree to get some leaves to make fiber. Once I did so, it wouldn’t let me hold the fiber because my inventory was full... again. Even though I was holding the leaves that the fiber was made from. I dropped some rocks and then I used the fiber and rocks and sticks to make a knife.... and it said I couldn’t hold the knife because, you guessed it! My inventory was full. Oh, and I couldn’t drop it because there were trees and things blocking me from dropping it, apparently, and I also couldn’t access my inventory; so I walked out to the beach with the knife hovering oddly in front of me as an item that I can’t carry and can’t drop, and then I managed to drop it and then drop something else so I could pick it back up again. Sound like fun? It’s not. At this point it was night time. During the day I had seen many crabs. My little task assigner in the corner had now told me that I needed to kill and skin a crab. Ok easy. Well: apparently in this game crabs only come out during the day. I circled the island on the beach for fifteen minutes, smirking every time something black randomly looked like TV static, and then eventually gave up, turned the game off, and deleted it. Is there a rest mechanic? A time lapse mechanic? Who knows? The tutorial is virtually nonexistent. Maybe this is a beta... but I see that they’re actually charging money for it, which is really kind of amazing. I played for a over an hour and at no point was I having any fun. I kept going “well maybe once I get past this one bit it’ll start to be interesting...” but walking in circles on a little tiny island in search of items that may or may not exist isn’t exactly a good time.... Especially since even the walking is buggy and jerky. Overall, the whole thing feels like a beta. I’m just glad that it was free. I can’t imagine how I would feel if I had paid money for it.… Expand

    Terrible controls. Played less than 15 minutes. Subnautica is way more friendly.

    This game if **** trash!!!!!!! It shouldn’t be so hard as to make a god damn campfire I shouldn’t have to search on the internet on how to make this stupid **** my god. I need a beer and to forget I even wasted my time downloading this abortion smh

    One of the worst game I've ever experienced, bad fps, bad performance, bad graphics and the game is trash
