    OMG, This game is a piece of S**t, wow, you really dont have a brain do you!, i logged in to my metacritic account after 2-3 years just to submit this review! worst toturial, worst crafting menu, i literally had to search the net for how to craft a coconut flask, and it turns out that there is 3 crafting menu!     I would like to give a rate 10!!!!
    But there's a bug that doesn't allow me to pick up anything, I can't cut trees, can do anything when this bug appears. It's so sad. The game is good but so many ridiculous bugs.

    When you need a tutorial to understand the tutorial. Just terrible basic game design. Shouldn't happen, and early access is no excuse.

    At one stage it wouldn't move to the next one, because i had already built the item but because i didn't "pin" a certain thing the tutorial wasn't clever enough to understand it should move to the next part. Nothing is explained well... and the    When you need a tutorial to understand the tutorial. Just terrible basic game design. Shouldn't happen, and early access is no excuse.

    I don't know who was in charge of the circle inventory. But it's terrible. In fact playing it with a controller bar the movement feels terrible. The control scheme seems to have been designed by a 5 year old who did it before their nap time.

    No wonder this was free on the PS Plus.. because no one in their right mind would willingly pay money for this.. on the console. if you did. Well... i'd be asking for my money back, or not tell a living soul that you did.

    The worst thing is, well the way the tutorial is presented to you. Looks lifted from the PC and then swear, they've photoshopped things like a "R1" button over the top of the PC key to try and make it ft. It looks wrong, and embarrassing. How sony approved this.... for sale... i'll never know.    … Expand

You cannot go back and battle the bosses again. Very fun game but completely disappointed in the lack of proper programming in a push to release this title. You should be issuing refunds or a fix for this terrible (glitchening) but fun game!!!!! What a waste of time and disappointment to all players. Ive researched this and its a wide spread issue between all game platforms. Shame on your programers for releasing this game with all its problems,,,,,if you ran a beta test, you would have known about this or you probably did and released it anyways…..GREED! I will be adding a copy of this email to all the gamer community threads about this game.

    I literally made a Metacritic account for this review. I am never one to write reviews but here I am after spending $30 on this game. After watching the misleading PS4 launch trailer it looked spectacular but never in my life have I been lied to as much as that video.

    Firstly the sensitivity of the screen is abysmal, it takes a full 4-5 seconds to completely turn your character around    I literally made a Metacritic account for this review. I am never one to write reviews but here I am after spending $30 on this game. After watching the misleading PS4 launch trailer it looked spectacular but never in my life have I been lied to as much as that video.

    Firstly the sensitivity of the screen is abysmal, it takes a full 4-5 seconds to completely turn your character around with no option to change the setting.

    Secondly the amount of BUGS and poor game design is unbelievable. Not sure if this was a bad port to the console cause apparently the PC version is good but the console is just utter trash. The game stutters as you walk around and over objects, graphics are appalling, it literally feels like it was made by a group of university students for their final project. The amount of bugs that you will find in this game is just laughable, they are stealing consumers money with the pricepoint of $30. I had a slither of hope that I wasn't making an impulse purchase and now I have learnt my lesson from misleading reveal and announcement trailers that make it look so flashy.

    Thirdly sound is just so recycled, only ever here like 2 different variations of game music and its the same boring crap. I actually play with the game muted its so much better.

    Fourthly the game is just boring, combine all of my points together and its just a waste of time.

    Conclusion save your money until they fix and polish this game up because it is honestly no where near the $30 they are charging you for. It feels like an Early Alpha game or in Beta testing at the least.    … Expand

Feels like a beta, had a lot of issues / bugs with game mechanics like water collectors that don't do anything, no matter if it rains or not...so what do you do the whole time? Looking for Coco Nuts and drinking it in order not to die on thirst. The whole days!!! DontFinally another survival game for PS4. Could not resist buying it. At one point little plants (that I needed to produce ropes) totally dissapeard for days. Its just freaking boring or frustrating and it feels like it still has some very deep balancing issues. Framerate issues as well and lots of graphic bugs. Its an Indie so I dont care for graphics too much. But I really expected a nice Survival Experience like a Long Dark in Paradies. Well... What came to my mind is, that Stranded Deep would probably work way better with Multiplayer - but there is no!!! Sometimes the character gets stuck walking over rocks and the screen moves backwards and forwards. The graphics are nothing exciting. The weather effects are dull. You have rain with wind sounds but the trees and your stuff don't react to the wind. The wavesThis game is clunky. Movement feels stiff and their isn't any way to change sensitivity. The weather effects are dull. You have rain with wind sounds but the trees and your stuff don't react to the wind. The waves look cool. Your campfire won't go out in the middle of a rainstorm. Swimming is fine except when you can't swim out of a window inside a sunken ship and end up drowning. You'll make mistakes and fail based on poor game design. It doesn't feel like a survival game. There is no real danger of not having enough resources and dying of dehydration. The game pushes you to move to island to island otherwise you run out of resources. You start off with some rations, you have coconuts, lots of trees, you can build a water mill and feed it palm leaves or whatever. Their is one resource used to make rope which takes forever to respawn. You need a lot of rope. You need it to make tools and to build your raft with the sails and the steering thing. You'll find yourself waiting it out until the plant re-spawns so you can collect the leaves to make the rope. You won't die of hunger because you can just go fishing with a stick.

    After many retries I finally set sail on my raft without a steering thing because I didn't want to wait out 3 in game days for the plant for the rope to re-spawn. So I jumped into the water to then dragged and moved the raft back into the direction of the island I wanted to get to. Getting back onto the raft isn't perfect to the point it's annoying. I got attacked by a shark and gave up.

    It's an interesting game because it has some bosses to fight and an endgame. You have to get to a ship or something and rebuild it to sail away to civilisation. Or theirs a plane, I don't remember. The maps are procedurally generated which is neat. But the game ends up getting boring very quickly. It loses momentum when you have to wait around for the plant for the rope to regrow.

    Who knows if this game is going to get patched. But right now, it's feels like a beta test. In one of my games I had the sound of underwater swimming playing all the time. Even when I was walking around on the beach. But it's clunky. When I set sail the movement while on the ship was jagged. The screen would move back and forth every so often. It's not a smooth experience gameplay wise. The inventory system is also unintuitive. It's annoying.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Spoiler is that this game is a patchwork at best. It's targeting and interaction mechanics are absolutely terrible. This game has a lot of potential, so long as it gets patched and soon. It's a neat premise, although not very original.


    Don't buy this. Not yet anyway. I would have rather spent the $$ on EA surprise mechanics...    … Expand

Hard to move, can’t back paddle, flips over regularly either at night when you are in the middle of the sea by a shark, or randomly when dragging the thing back to the water. Also the days/nights go by fast, and would have preferred longer days, and nights where I get the option of making my character sleep. But no, I have to stay awake in the complete darkness waiting for the sun the come back...

    Only an hour of play and I have already regretted buying this terrible, terrible, terrible game.

    Please save yourself money that could be better spent on other games, groceries, or renting/buying some movies on Amazon!

In the island there is one Yucca tree that produces 5 fibrous leaves and approx. 4 palm tree saplings. One rope requires 4 of these leaves and almost every item requires rope. In order to progress the crafting tree to allow the construction of a water trap requires crafting several tools and items most of which require rope from fibrous leaves. By the time the water trap is unlocked there is no more fibrous leaves to use to craft it. In some forums it says these will grow back so I waited 3 days in game for 3 plam tree saplings each producing one fibrous leaf after collecting the first one my knife broke now I have to expel another 4 fibrous leaves for a new knife and nothing from the Yucca tree during this time still as I write this nothing from that tree. The option to sleep away the time is limited so with a lack of resources all I can really do is stand here, wait and hope as the guys vitals slowly drop. I can’t even class this as a game at the min it’s pretty un-fun to play and appears very poorly balanced. Some may say it’s a sim but a balance has to be struck for the game itself to survive on console, I mean anybody buying this at the min on PS4 has to be pretty pissed waiting 3 days in game to craft something only to not get enough resources is not fun at all its among the bleakest experiences I’ve had with a game ever. I am unsure how to progress and assistance from PC users doesn’t seem to cross over to PS4 the in game tutorial is dog **** and the controls are very clunky. Needs work from the dev team to survive as a game outside of the PC world at-least on PC they can fix it themselves on console we are stuck with hope that the dev team see and listen to forums and feedback. I will change this review if that happens but I don’t hold out much hope. Edit .. just through another hour at its ... absolute trash! not worth a buy in this appauling state… Expand

    This game is total garbage .Mud-like graphics, unreasonably hard to find some main resources, very bad control scheme .Everything bores you real fast.Dont waste money & time with this nonsense game.Play ''FOREST'' instead , it's so much better.

    Not going to lie i had fun with it but to sum it all up... i hate squids for ever, the game defy all logic, sun goes down at 6pm in the pacific ? Why i have to farm making objects to get to the right level to fly away from that horrible game ? Why its so clunky ? The island maker doesnt work, too much bugs... stay away from it if you dont want to get addicted to that pile of trash

    I downloaded this game today on the ps5 as a PS+ member and was excited to play as I am a fan of this genre. First of all I would like to put it out there that I identify as a african American sub male, female dominant, male. I am deeply offended that this game only offers two genders to choose from as gender is a spectrum and two options is not enough for this day and age. This is unacceptable I just wanted to experience the game as the zer I feel comfortable playing as (a sub male, female dominant, male) only allowing the player to choose two gender is highly sexeist. Beyond that to my horror I found out I was not able to change the race of my character. I am proud to be an African American. My people survived through slavery and oppression and are currently managing systemic racism day to day and refuse to play as a white supremacist. Why did the devs think that only white people can fly in planes and survive on an island. As a full blooded African American sub male, female dominant, male I feel that I too can survive on an island. I hope the developers can stop being so sexist and racists and find it in there hearts to expand their minds and make all people feel comfortable playing their game. Until they do so I am boycotting this game and hope you all do that same.

X (ps4) is used to skip cinematics (good) then X again used to skip hints (usually it's a L1 and R1 in other games but whatever), then X again to start (okay but I had to press it several times after prompted) then the main menu has a strange layout, looking left to right there is yourJust no. Now for some reason X is used to skip this whole scene and go directly into gameplay, and having been trained so far to press X to do things it's easy to skip right over the gameplay settings so you basically have to restart the game and when you get to the same screen press Square to change things. Finally when the game starts, your 1st person camera movement is incredibly sluggish and lags behind your inputs. When you make it to the progression trigger of the next sequence the change is so abrupt, followed by a loading screen, I though I had died and the game was reloading. From there I'm on a raft struggling with the camera and pop up hints, I finally got an paddle in my hand and rowed to shore, but incapable of exiting the raft. I pressed every button, there was no onscreen hint... but this time I gave up, having zero faith that things would improve from this point. It's like whoever approved the controls had never played a game with a controller before. Also the whole UI felt amateurish. Hate to be this harsh, it's a great concept and I wanted to give it a chance, but first impressions mean a lot.… Expand

    Where to begin? First of all it takes an age for the game to load, which is a shock as the game looks and plays like something you might have seen on the PlayStation 1. The graphics at best are terrible, the sound is boring, the lighting is poor and the animation/movement is jerky and clunky. Even as a free game, this is not worth it. It's a waste of hard disk space.

They make the game look stunning, but when you load it up it looks like a badly optimised game from 2010. Full of glitches, esset re use and low frame rates.     The game file size is 2 gb. There is no content, its just and over used set of game assets. The gameplay is standard 2005 survivor game , but this was released in 2020    … Expand

The UI is super intrusive and makes the already impossible to see things on the ground even more difficult to find, it's poorly designed, clunky and confusing to use. Praticamente todos os itens do jogo se baseiam na amarra, um item "básico", mas que com o desenrolar do game, se torna super escasso, já que tudo nesse lixo precisa disso. Itens que não tem sentido precisarem dela, os programadores imbecis fizeram questão de precisar,O jogo é patético. Nem todos os itens dão respaw, os mais básicos, como pedra e coqueiros por várias vezes simplesmente irão sumir, já que você pegou tudo, te obrigando a ir pra outra ilha pra criar tudo de novo. O jogo é todo bugado, a física não funciona direito, pouquíssimos animais, crafting patético e chato, dependente de um item só pra absolutamente tudo, não tem trilha sonora, os gráficos são de ps2 e a programação falha em diversos aspectos, como o jogo ficar derrubando sua arma no chão de propósito, inviabilizando você continuar jogando, já que precisará de recursos pra fazer a arma de novo... Понимаете как бы такие игры как - battlefield 5 - Смогли сделать плавную картинку огромные локации красивые в 2018 году ! А тут Метр на полтора лагающий кусок высера. Я даже не понимаю кто эти люди которые ставят оценку выше единицы ! Понимаете , я ждал раздачу на ps plus этой игры ина ps5 игра идет так же отвратительно как и на ps4 pro ! графика ужасная.     Bad performance on PS4 Pro and the graphics, meh. I dont know how the game is on PC but on PS4 it definitifly needs a lot of work to be really playable. The concept is nice and the things you COULD do if they would work are well thought. I wish this game will reach a playable state soon.

    Поиграл час и вышел. Кривенькая, картинка приятная - но средняя. Возможности вроде бы есть, а играть не интересно. FPS скачет. Напился кокосовой воды, заработал диарею и удалил.

    Everything about this game is frustrating. It tries to bill itself as a realistic survival sim, but instead it's just a lot of really annoying busy-work that defies reason. The inventory and crafting system are seemingly designed to get in the way of doing anything interesting. No you cant craft (item) because you're holding too many sticks or palm fronds. No you cant craft (item)Everything about this game is frustrating. It tries to bill itself as a realistic survival sim, but instead it's just a lot of really annoying busy-work that defies reason. The inventory and crafting system are seemingly designed to get in the way of doing anything interesting. No you cant craft (item) because you're holding too many sticks or palm fronds. No you cant craft (item) because you've hacked down every palm sapling on the island, go find another island. No you can't cook the four fish you've caught at once, do it one at a time because reasons. Looking around underwater? Every shark in the archipelago is coming to eat you even though real sharks don't like the taste of human meat. You want to make (X)? Too bad, your skill is too low! Waste your precious resources crafting random crap. Oh dear a snake bit you, drop everything and island hop for plants or you'll inevitably die. No you can't store your resources, drop em all in a big pile on the beach. Want to be able to make planks? Craft two expensive axes and immediately lose both of them for some reason. No you can't walk up those stairs or climb that ladder, are you insane my god the danger! And that's all assuming the myriad of physics bugs don't activate and launch your raft into the stratosphere and strand you in the ocean.
    And no, game promotional materials, it won't result in a different experience every time you play. You'll be hunting the exact same resources across effectively the same islands surrounded by the same wrecks to build the same items every time. There is no true variability.
    Once you're established, you're not going to die. I had enough food for two weeks stocked up just from my island and the four I could see from its shores.

    Travel is annoying. Enjoy five minutes of doing absolutely nothing as you slowly wait for the wind to carry you between islands. If you haven't realized you can build container shelves on your raft (you're never told you can build furniture on rafts), enjoy your lack of inventory space cutting every island trip short. If you travel more than one island away and have to leave your computer to do something for a while, enjoy having extreme difficulty figuring out how to get to your home island. The -only- navigational tool is a compass, which relies on your own memory to retrace your steps. You can physics your raft to travel quickly by nudging it with objects.
    And then we have my final play with the game. I just raided two island and a boat, had an inventory full of full crates and a raft of filled crates, and my raft got snagged on the boat. I went to flick my raft off the boat but somehow it flipped completely upside down. While trying to turn it right side up through physics **** the raft and I flew into the sky. I broke my leg, and the raft began drifting away upside down. I went to swim after it and immediately got grabbed by a shark. Welp, there goes three hours down the drain because you can only save at your shelter. No thank you, Stranded Deep, you can stay uninstalled.

    In short: A gigantic ball of frustration, physics problems, a totally effortless main survival loop, and an !!!==ABSOLUTELY GARBAGE==!!! save system that punishes you for exploring and wastes your time for the tiniest mistake, even those that aren't your fault. This is 2021 for god's sake. There is NO REASON to keep me from saving when I want. People have lives outside video games, Beam Team. I shouldn't have to leave a game open for twelve hours because I need to sleep and work but can't save.    … Expand

    This doesn’t feel like a finished game. Nothing seems to work. From the getgo the mechanics are buggy: the very first task is to get the raft to shore. I managed to maneuver it to shore, and then not a single button did anything. After a minute or two of looking in various directions and pushing every button, I got a prompt to get out of the raft and it told me to drag it. I’m not sureThis doesn’t feel like a finished game. Navigating jerkily around my little island, because the movement mechanics are incredibly jerky and every object feels like an obstacle, I found plenty of trees and rocks but no sticks. Do sticks come from trees? Apparently not. “I found a tree!” I say to the game. “Not good enough. Keep wandering.” Says Stranded Deep. I found plenty of other random things, but any time I picked one up I had to drop something else. Eventually I found a second stick. How exciting! I used the sticks and rocks to make a sharper rock, I guess, and then cut up a tree to get some leaves to make fiber. Once I did so, it wouldn’t let me hold the fiber because my inventory was full... again. Even though I was holding the leaves that the fiber was made from. I dropped some rocks and then I used the fiber and rocks and sticks to make a knife.... and it said I couldn’t hold the knife because, you guessed it! My inventory was full. Oh, and I couldn’t drop it because there were trees and things blocking me from dropping it, apparently, and I also couldn’t access my inventory; so I walked out to the beach with the knife hovering oddly in front of me as an item that I can’t carry and can’t drop, and then I managed to drop it and then drop something else so I could pick it back up again. Sound like fun? It’s not. At this point it was night time. During the day I had seen many crabs. My little task assigner in the corner had now told me that I needed to kill and skin a crab. Ok easy. Well: apparently in this game crabs only come out during the day. I circled the island on the beach for fifteen minutes, smirking every time something black randomly looked like TV static, and then eventually gave up, turned the game off, and deleted it. Is there a rest mechanic? A time lapse mechanic? Who knows? The tutorial is virtually nonexistent. Maybe this is a beta... but I see that they’re actually charging money for it, which is really kind of amazing. I played for a over an hour and at no point was I having any fun. I kept going “well maybe once I get past this one bit it’ll start to be interesting...” but walking in circles on a little tiny island in search of items that may or may not exist isn’t exactly a good time.... Especially since even the walking is buggy and jerky. Overall, the whole thing feels like a beta. I’m just glad that it was free. I can’t imagine how I would feel if I had paid money for it.… Expand

    Terrible controls. Played less than 15 minutes. Subnautica is way more friendly.

    This game if **** trash!!!!!!! It shouldn’t be so hard as to make a god damn campfire I shouldn’t have to search on the internet on how to make this stupid **** my god. I need a beer and to forget I even wasted my time downloading this abortion smh

    Great idea, but it's too clunky.
    Would love to spend time immersed in the game but after the fourth time I've died for a crazy not well explained reason I just gave up

    I play this game on ps4 pro, and while its may look like a crappy clay-mation movie, it's pretty fun. There is one glaring issue I have with the game and that is the consumables, like antidotes and sun block take twice as many herbs as they do on pc. If you step on a crown of thorns starfish that was tucked underneath the edge of a rock with only 3 centimeters of it showing, you'll have toI play this game on ps4 pro, and while its may look like a crappy clay-mation movie, it's pretty fun. There is one glaring issue I have with the game and that is the consumables, like antidotes and sun block take twice as many herbs as they do on pc. If you step on a crown of thorns starfish that was tucked underneath the edge of a rock with only 3 centimeters of it showing, you'll have to scour your island for 2 Pipi plants instead of 1 if you were playing on pc. Not only that, but the building is janky as heck, especially when it comes to rafts. I cannot expand my raft's width at all, but I can make it longer. I have never once seen that issue on pc.

    TL: DR Wanna play a survival game? pick a different one, cause this one is truly one of the most repetitive survival games I've played.    … Expand

    Stranded Deep was quite fun for the first hour or so, alone or with friends. After my friend and I played for around 3 days, we began to realize how poorly designed the game was. Food and hunger goes down quite fast. Travelling from island to island is extremely slow and boring.     It’s rarely original, occasionally frustrating, and often clumsy in execution, but when it clicks there’s a meditative vein to Stranded Deep’s grind that will make time spent indoors sunnier. [Issue#176, p.74]
