I wish all turn based strategy games could have interfaces this good. Keeps things simple in a world where turn based strategy games are getting way too complicated. Finally somebody made a Steampunk game with visuals that didn’t make me say “yuk”. Runs great on Vita.

I like Steamworld: Heist, and if you're a fan of the original there's a load to love here, in fact it's one of my favourite games at the moment. It's fun, and the art style is great, not to mention the animation, which is crisp and full of character from the attacks to the idle animations of the Cowbots.

The sound design is great as well. Theme wise, honestly, the whole space western

Theme wise, honestly, the whole space western thing with robots just makes me grin.

It's a polished package that's worth adding to your collection if you're a fan of turn-based games, and especially if you're looking for something to scratch your XCOM itch on the PS4.

It's single player as well, so you're not going to play it co-op with a friend, unless you play pass-the-pad and let them control a character on their turn.

I kinda dislike turn based bounce bullet games... found them kinda dumb :(
BUT WHY AM ADDICTED TO THIS GAME
I just got it thinking it was like the previous steamworld dig games (which I loved) and was angry when I found it was a bounce bullet turn based thing, almost deleted it... but then I played the first level, then the second, then I downloaded it to my Vita (you get that included

I even put down Monster hunter world to end this one first.
Dont know if its the mechanics, the colorful characters, the power ups, the simple map style (you jump from spaceship to spaceship, no loading times at all)
Those guys really made me want to play steamworld defense tower game now and I cant get it nowhere since its for Nintendo DS.
Truly a little gem all in all.
Give it a try, you wont let it down until you finish it.

I already knew i would love this game before i even brought it. Its fun turn based strategy, easy to learn but challenging. I heard its 15-20 hours. Im already 2 hours in and i can't stop playing. Easy 10 out of 10 for me. The only thing im pissed off about is there is no cross save with ps4 to vita.

A very solid turn based strategy game. The successor to Steamworld DIg (one of my favorite indie games) is only a successor in terms of atmosphere and steambots. At the games core is a very simple 2d side-scrolling turn based combat system that is fun and challenging, with rank up rewards (new perks for each characters as they level), and what I believe is random loot that you can choose to collect if you dare in each level. I felt like those two "side" elements keep this game fresh throughout this roughly 10-20 hours game (depending on your skill level/ if you grind or not). The story is really straightforward and is really a side-show, like steamworld dig, gameplay rules all, and this game does enough introducing new enemies , weapons, abilities, characters, etc . to satisfy the prototypical gamer as the game goes along. The only downside is that this game drags on too much for me, for me the game lost it's magic during the third world, with annoying enemies, and level design that hampered the experience for me just a little bit. But all in all a fun turn based game, with surprisingly a lot of depth (around 30-40 levels i think), and a decent challenge. If you mix gunbound and xcom, this is the baby you'll get, and it's a good one. Expand

I had high hopes going into this, as I really enjoyed the visuals and turn based combat.

Unfortunately, the game ends up just being a totally underwhelming experience. While the combat was really fun at first, it quickly became bland and I couldn't even bring myself to finish it. I got about halfway though the game before putting it down and just didn't feel like continuing. Why?

Unfortunately, the game ends up just being a totally underwhelming experience. While the combat was really fun at first, it quickly became bland and I couldn't even bring myself to finish it. I got about halfway though the game before putting it down and just didn't feel like continuing.

Why? Because this game has the most boring progression system I've ever encountered. While it may seem like there are dozens of options, with 10 different robots you can recruit to your team (11 including a DLC character), it doesn't really matter because most people are going to play the same way. You're going to have 1 or 2 characters sniping and 1 tank character with high HP using a grenade launcher or rocket launcher for big damage up close. That's pretty much it....

As far as leveling up goes, this is handled poorly. Each character can only gain up to level 10 max, which you will easily do with your favorites before finishing the 2nd galaxy in the game (There are 3 galaxies total). Each time you gain a level, you have no control over how the character develops. Sometimes you get a cool ability, but other times you only gain +1 HP max.... TOTALLY LAME.

Don't even get me started on the weapons. This game has a tier system for weapons, which is extremely boring and I hate when games do this. the farther your get in the game, the higher tier weapons you find, but none of them are necessarily better than others, which means it doesn't matter too much which ones you choose. There is no way to upgrade weapons or improve any of their stats.

Sniper scope pistols are poorly balanced in all tiers. You will either find ones that do high damage at the cost of not being able to move after shooting, or lower damage ones that allow movement after shooting. The problem is, most missions require your characters to keep moving and exploring, so of course you're not going to just give them a gun that prevents movement after shooting. This makes high damage sniper weapons completely useless! The only exception is for boss battles, but there are only about 3 of those...

Overall, the game let me down and I couldn't even finish it. I got about halfway through the 2nd galaxy, but stopped caring. It's not a bad game, but it's boring, which is why I give it a 4/10

A refreshing take on turn based strategy by mixing elements of Worms, RPG, and satisfying tactics. The game has an excellent port to PS4, with fluid controls. Even the story is well put together, for a game in this genre.

Set in the world of previous title Steamworld Dig, this is a turn-based strategy title that's more arcade-orientated than the likes of XCom. Easy to pick up and play but it soon gets fiendishly difficult in ways that don't seem altogether fair on the player. Pretty good as a handheld game thanks to the lack of competition in the genre but it feels a little shallow when played on a homeSet in the world of previous title Steamworld Dig, this is a turn-based strategy title that's more arcade-orientated than the likes of XCom. SteamWorld Heist quickly seized my attention with its interesting world and charming characters, but its addicting combat and rewarding RPG mechanics are what really made the game hard to put down.

SteamWorld Heist is a steampunk tactical game with attitude and a cool gameplay mechanic. It's a truly great product that has become one of the best indie games of the year. There's a lot to be satisfied about: great graphics, excellent combat and interesting dialogue. Fans of high difficulty levels and tactical, turn-based games and should definitely give it a go.
