***AN HONEST REVIEW FROM AN EPIC STAR WARS FAN - 6.5 STARS OUT OF 10***

While the cut scenes, storyline, exploration and detail of the game exceed all expectations, I find myself very disappointed with the combat and gameplay. What made SWTOR the fastest-growing MMORPG in the world was its amazing gameplay. People of all ages could quickly pick-up the game and enjoy the wonder and magic that was Star Wars. I don’t find that the case with Fallen Order. In fact, I was taken aback when my 15-year-old son lost all interest in the game in just 2 or 3 days, after looking forward to this game for months! When I questioned him about it, he said, the game is all about parring, evading and jumping, as well as split-second counter attacks, and I couldn’t disagree.

While fighting small groups of 4-7 storm-troopers can be fun. I just found the whole premises of combat in this game - to be honest - just completely ridiculous. I don’t like the fact that I am forced to wait for an opponent to throw a punch at me before I can kill them (with a split-second counter attack or parry). As a result, there were moments where I was just literary standing still, face-to-face with about 2 or 3 storm-troopers (for about 5-10 seconds), just waiting for them to throw a punch at me; so I could kill them with a well-timed parry attack. Given most storm-troopers have an incredibly powerful blocking stamina, its completely illogical to try and kill them in any other way; given a well-timed parry can kill them with a single strike. Furthermore, until I actually mastered parrying (or acquired some more Force abilities, such as Force push and pull) I found myself asking, why doesn’t Cal have a blaster or a sniper rifle? His lightsabre is about as useful as a baseball bat in a Zombie apocalypse; no matter how many times you hit a storm-trooper, they just keep coming back for more. Furthermore, attacking also leaves Cal open to an attack… So, parrying is really your only option in Fallen Order.

I was also a bit annoyed by how effortlessly Cal could fall off a cliff in combat. It’s very easy for Cal to accidently stumble down a cliff, or accidently jump, parry and evade off a cliff, or worse when Cal is accidently clipped by an enemy or critter. Where, in the old Zelda games, whenever you accidently fell off, Link would latch on to the end and quickly pull himself up again. As a result, given how effortlessly Cal can die in this game, he doesn’t come across as a very heroic character to me. Where in SWTOR for example, as a Sith warrior or Jedi knight, you could quickly leap-frog over to an enemy with a powerful lightsabre attack, rip into them with a powerful Force combo, dash over to the next target with another combo, and repeat the process until everyone around you was dead. Fallen Order should be based on this fighting style, not the above…

Beyond the combat, the storyline of Fallen Order is exceptional. I don’t regret playing the game. However, I would have liked to play the game again, but given how frustrating I found the combat. I won’t be. I tried to play the game again on Jedi Master but found trying to parry a group of 8-10 plus storm-troopers just too hard, if not stressful. In situations like this, the game becomes nothing more than a mad scramble of evades and jumps, trying to find the tiniest window of opportunity to parry a storm-trooper, which is really impossible, given you might have 5 or 6 storm-troopers shooting at you, another 5 or 6 chasing you with electro-staffs, and yes, another 2 or 3 imperial security droids trying to kill you as well, and somehow in the middle of all this madness, you’re supposed to find the tiniest window of opportunity to parry someone when your jumping all over the place. And, every attempted parry, ends up with you getting hit by one of the other 10 plus storm-troopers you’re not trying to parry. So, once the game stopped being fun, I just switched it off.

Anyway, I hope this review has been helpful... I might check out the next Fallen Order if the combat controls are different. But, in the meantime, I’m going to get back into SWTOR. Cheers!

Fallen order kicks off with an interesting story line, immersive environments and a good protagonist.

Antagonist unfortunately lacked that feel of 'power' which for a Star Wars game should be a must. there was actually another NPC who seemed to fit the role better.
Enemies were good, slashing through an army of storm-troopers is always going to be great fun. Boss fights could of been better personally, they were challenging in places but they did not feel like boss fights apart from one which I will leave for the player to find out for themselves.

I find endings important to every single game that I play, if the ending is terrible then it makes the entire game feel like an epic fail. Fortunately this game did not disappoint, in-fact if you are a star wars fan then the entire game is worth playing just for the ending.

So a quick break down -

Protagonist - Decent, not the best not the worst.
Antagonist - Pretty boring after first introduction.
Story Start - Awesome start for the game.
Story Middle - Slightly Loses interest but not entirely
    Story End - Fantastic.
Environment - Beautiful and out of the box designs.
Mechanics - not too bad, May be a challenge for some players.
Enemies - Great enemies, some were pretty challenging.
Sounds - Come on its star wars...

One issue I encountered was a low frame-rate in places of the game, fortunately for me something like that does not bother me but I know it can be annoying for some of you other players so prepare yourself for that.

This is a good direction for the EA star wars gaming franchise. There's none of that BS micro-transaction and live/ online service in this game. The game is a single player experience, its a mix between uncharted, tomb raider, star wars force unleashed and crash bandicoot. The game does have its flaws however.
    Pros
    1. good combat 2. no microtransactions 3. lots of customization 4.

    Cons
    1. environmental design makes it almost impossible to know what to do next, in certain sections of the game.
    2. blocking/ parrying is inconsistent
    3. no fast travel, easy to get lost
    4. bad map design.
    5. it feels like theres fragments of the story missing
    6. Certain sections in the game drags on too much ( gets very repetitive)

Controls, story and combat sucks. I really regret buying this game. 79 metascore? 7.7 users? What's wrong with you folks? Who is reviewing it? On PS4 pro the game has a problem with running. Continuous frame drops. Even a year after the game was released. Disgusting.

This game is bad. I mean really, really, really bad.

This game wants to be Tomb Raider. I love TR, they are among my favourite games of all time. But if I wanted to play TR, I'd play TR. I wanted to play Star Wars, be a Jedi, have several light saber fights, but instead, there is only one of the worst level and game design I have ever seen in my 21 years of gaming, it's amazing

But if I wanted to play TR, I'd play TR.

I wanted to play Star Wars, be a Jedi, have several light saber fights, but instead, there is only one of the worst level and game design I have ever seen in my 21 years of gaming, it's amazing how bad GD and especially level design are in this game.

The level design makes no sense at all. This game wants to be Tomb Raider but in Tomb Raider, you don't end up in front of a puzzle to start it, realise you don't have all the force abilities required to finish it, go somewhere else and then get back to the puzzle. I did not play for 2 days, when I got back, it was just a nightmare just to remember what to do, because the game does not tell exactly what to do, I don't want a game to hold me by the hand but at least be clear about the reason why we are here in the first place.

Everything is VAGUE, it's a nightmare. And there are like 3 or 4 light saber fight, what is this ? This is a suppose to be a STAR WARS GAME, light saber fights should be ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO DO IN A STAR WARS GAME !!!!!!!!!! NOT WANDERING AROUND IN A TOMB WITHOUT ANY REAL OBJECTIVE !!!!!!!!!!!!

I won't even talk about the story, what story? There's no story. Oh yes, there is a ex-jedi knight that decided to withdraw from the force (WHAT ??????????????? ISN'T THE FORCE SUPPOSE TO BIND ALL LIVING THINGS AND...OH NEVER MIND !!!!! )

I tried and tried and tried and tried to play this game, but now after 4 tries of more than an hour each, I just can't stand this game more than 30 minutes because of HOW BAD IT IS,

it's DULL, it's VAGUE, it's EMPTY, it DOES NOT KNOW WHAT GAME IT SHOULD BE, it's A COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY, it's ONE OF THE WORST GAME I'VE EVER PLAYED.

The worst thing is that, I did not encounter bugs or any other stuff that could explain my reaction, there are no bugs from what I've saw but the LEVEL DESIGN IS SO BAD, you feel you are turning in circles all the time, you feel that you don't move FORWARD.

The second time I played, I realised after an hour that I had forgotten what my objective was, IT NEVER HAPPENED IN ANY OTHER GAMES I'VE PLAYED IN 21 YEARS and not because there is not a written indication BUT BECAUSE OF THE LEVEL DESIGN AS YOU ARE GOING BACK AND FORTH AND BACK AND FORTH AND BACK AND FORTH YOU END UP NOT KNOWING ANYMORE WHY YOU WERE HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE AND WHAT YOU ARE SUPPOSE TO DO IT'S INSANE !!!!!!!

This game should be taught in gaming school for its superiorly bad level and game design, it's full of mistakes, they have invented the Deus Ex Machina Gameplay concept it's INSANE.

Other things that makes no sense at all :

    - Ennemies respawn if you medidate ON ANY DIFFICULTY LEVEL , WHAT IS THIS ? WHO THOUGHT THIS WAS A GOOD IDEA ???????????? It's immersion breaking and it's infuriating, you rest to get your life back ONLY TO HAVE TO LOSE IT AGAIN OHH WHAT A BRILLANT IDEA !!!!!!

    - The holomap is unreadable , it's as VAGUE as the rest of the game

    - The way the character remembers his abilities is COMPLETLY RIDICULOUS, it gives that feeling of a Deus Ex Machina Gameplay that I talked about before, IT'S THE WORST IDEA EVER.

The rule is pretty simple in game design : DON'T PUT YOUR PLAYER IN FRONT OF A PROBLEM THEY CAN'T RESOLVE YET BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE THE ABILITY TO !!!!!
THIS GAME IS THE FIRST ONE TO NOT RESPECT THAT RULE AND LOOK WHAT IT ENDS UP BEING : A COMPLETE WASTE !!!!

Great game overall. Fun exploration, and fun combat. The developers took ideas from several other games, and managed to create a fun and accessible Star Wars experience. Choosing your difficulty will allow you to have the experience you want to have. I’m going on hard and it’s very fun. 9/10 for me. Yes get it.

Also, I really liked exploring. Moving around the world is made very cool as well. Vertical and open levels are beautiful and give a good impression on the player. The only problem game has here is a very poor variety of enemies.
The design of the world is really gorgeous, but sometimes I could suspect loading textures(PS pro). Level design is also very smart and makes you come back to the previous places and explore it. The game doesn't have any microtransactions, all of the customizations you can get only by exploring the world.

The only problems the game have are:
    1) Optimization ( sometimes frames drop on PS pro on performance mode. Sometimes long loading screens)
    2) The story sometimes is pretty obvious and silly
    3) The game has quite a lot of content but I found this game very short.
    4) Enemies are very similar (You just got used to moveset of each of them and every next time you meet enemy you won't have any problems with fighting)

In conclusion, I want to say that Respawn made a really good adventure game with a lot of cool mechanics, staging and quite good graphics. Hope EA will continue doing games such a this Respawn entertainment makes strong belives.

As someone with limited time to play games, the shame of Fallen Order stems from multiple frustrations. It’s hard to fight and, worse, it’s hard to move. The game’s timing issues distracted me from both the story and the beautifully constructed worlds; I was too focused on simply staying alive. My many (many, many, many) deaths discouraged me from exploring worlds — all of them beautiful — as did the simple fact that traveling by foot (even a Jedi’s Force-enhanced feet) takes forever.

Respawn has shown us, and EA, that single player games are well enough alive and kicking and has set a bright future for the Star Wars franchise of videogames if they keep this up.
