Star Wars Fallen Order - The Newest release from Respawn entertainment of whom has brought us Titanfall and Apex Legends.

Star Wars the fallen order is (and is painful to admit) a brilliant game Backed by EA. I didn’t hold out much hope for this game but tried to stay positive due to its vast material and overall love for said universe and characters.

Respawn has done the universe proud by creating this gem of a game, the combat flows and the story is interesting and immersive. Characters are detailed and have complex back stories and some fan favourites make a few cameos here and there.

Not to say the game is perfect however... Fallen order is plagued with over the top platforming and on occasions very repetitive enemy groups, the meditation mechanic where interesting and intuitive let’s all KIA Mobs respawn back in the world from where they fell, although not an uncommon mechanic it can at times put a drag on your gameplay as enemies don’t patrol or move from place to place but stand motionless in designated spots.

In support though the meditation system makes for a canon friendly way of healing. The skill tree is well laid out and gives you a broad selection of skills to unlock and combine the further you delve into the game, through this you start to feel more powerful as Kal begins to reconnect to the force and in turn becomes more potent force skill wise.

Moving away from game mechanics - The overall story of a Jedi Padawan on the run is told beautifully through flash backs and in game cutscenes and overall gameplay. At times this can feel like just a hack and slash but overall story telling is near perfect in Respawns iteration into the star wars universe, my only gripe is how short the story is, and how character interaction outside cutscenes seems stagnant and pre done so to speak. If this were done on a ME Trilogy level of dialogue choice I’m sure this would make the overall story and feel perfect without flaws, we may see this in the second iteration but at this point who knows.

Moving on to customisation, the game boasts a wide variety of unlocks for Kal, the mantis, BD1 and of course your lightsaber! On the surface this seems to be an extensive library of cosmetics of which you could use to make your Kal... YOUR Kal, however most of these cosmetics bar lightsaber parts lack a certain flair, ponchos for Kal are mainly just slightly different colours of the same look bar about three, BD1s skins again are just slight colour variations with nothing to unique, and this also applies to the Mantis...

Lightsaber parts and later crystals really add your own personal touch to the Jedis weapon of choice, but sadly when it comes to other cosmetics it seems respawn just threw a few shades together and hoped for the best in this situation. Not to say this ruins the game... but more cosmetic unlocks would certainly add to player immersion in my opinion.

And finally enemies and bosses - Enemy types in Fallen Order are a plenty, from your common storm trooper to hulking ATSTs etc. Each has its own library card and backstory to tie you into the lore, this adds for great reading and overall feel to the universe when you can read into a certain enemy you may never have heard before, for instance I enjoyed the lore behind the purge troopers and in turn decided to look into them more outside of the game.

Bosses are there but at the same time not, you have your encounters with the inquisitors on multiple occasions but only two are sadly present in this game. Mini bosses such as purge troopers are a plenty but what added a certain challenge to the game on its highest difficulty were the hidden creatures scattered around the universe, these five or so beasts were named variants of creatures you’ve faced hundreds of times over, and although looking the same they boasted unique attack patterns and of course extra XP!

    In conclusion...

StarWars Fallen Order is a Stella game with a story driven narrative and a brilliant line of characters and enemies. The combat although can feel clunky at first can flow majestically once you learn how to parry and attack back. And overall game mechanics are nearly but not quite perfect, the meditation/Checkpoint system needs a little fine tuning and character dialogue certainly needs improving to add just that unique in the game feel, this goes for cosmetics also, where there may be many, most lack a unique feel. This is not to say some aren’t, but overall a bit more effort in character costumes would have pushed the envelope just a bit more! Lightsaber customisation brought me back to the Old Star Wars pc RPGs however, this was a gem in the rough and made the lack of costumes worth it... so finally I wholeheartedly recommend this game to any starwars fan and non.

I've lost count how often I've died because I simply missed the rope when jumping. Having save points so far apart then creates issues where you are faced with lengthy sections of countless mobs to fight, and if you lose you're back at the very start of the section. Even worse, if you go back to a save point to replenish health and 'health stims' then you will trigger a respawn of all the mobs. The story has some fantastic set pieces - the AT-AT on Kashyyyk - but most of the game is repetitive and going back and forth to the same planets constantly.
All in all I'm enjoying it, in between becoming incredibly frustrated with it.

Cons: puzzles, lots of backtracking and no skip feature.

Finally a Star Wars experience that isn't hard-cooked or filled with microtransactions. Has a few bugs here and there, mainly some issues with clipping and collision mechanics, otherwise very clean with some great visuals. Best Star Wars game since Jedi Outcast.

My immediate impression when starting this game was how similar it was to the new Tomb Raider series. Many of the gameplay mechanics are copied, whether it’s climbing on rocks (it seems like > 10 percent of the game is spent doing this), squeezing through tight gaps, solving puzzles in ancient sites, conveniently sliding down some kind of nature ramp, swinging on ropes, and platforming across the landscape. This kind of gameplay is kind of fun at first, but gets boring quickly and kills the immersion. For example, why the **** do all these planets have nature slides? Oh, here comes another rock-climbing part. Great. **** this! I want to do Jedi stuff.

The lightsaber combat is satisfying and challenging. You get to one-hit generic stormtroopers as well as duel advanced STs who wield a variety of electric batons. Also, slicing through an imperial R2 unit and seeing the still-glowing shear of its dome fall to the ground really hits the spot. The boss fights are OK, but nothing special. However, the final boss fight is one of the greatest parts in the game, so if you’re struggling to finish due to boredom, keep on it.

I have no complaints about the story. It’s not KOTOR quality, but it will satisfy Star Wars fans. The adventures are meaningful and make sense. The voice acting was good, and the actor’s likenesses were used when possible, which was interesting, but also broke the immersion a bit. Overall I give this game a B.

I never wrote reviews before but Star Wars is one of my life's most loved story that i learned when i was a small child. Need to say that i love 4-6 chapters of the Lucas's saga shot in 77-82 of the 20th century more than 3 other screened in 2000's. I always wondered why nobody ever created vast open-world RPG based on Star Wars saga. It was a disappointment when i first launched SW Battlefront. Yeah, you can shoot and fly in some classical places of the theme but only multiplayer?! No story, no freedom, you can't feel yourself a part of the world. Just shooter... Battlefront 2 is the same. I was glad to hear that RPG action game is coming based on the story. And when i launched Fallen order - it was another disappointment. Yes, it has some pretty animation. Yes, it has a good fighting system. Yes it has good graphics. But everything else is awful. The story is simple and straight, and short. The world is small and non opened (although you may travel between maps after you discover them). You still can't travel between points inside each map (seriously? in 2019?! in rpg?!!). You have only one quest - main. No side quests. You can't shoot with a blaster (why?), you can't pick anything up, you can't fly or ride any transport. I think EA and Respawn really could do much better. There are a lot of examples like Witcher, Horizon zero dawn, ES5 Skyrim, Legend of Zelda and so on. Just use imagination. But not this time though. The game that ends in 20 hours of straight and far too predictable story telling/playing don't attract at all. I was really excited first 20-30 minutes. But then the play became dull and made me frustrated.

I will give 10 for animations - they are good.
10 for 3d models and fighting - i liked it.
7 for moving - its nice but sometimes you need to do obvious move like jump and catch the rope many times because "the jedi" can't catch it (??)... or you just fall down and die because the player don't see edges of the ground or whatever you stand on.
2 for the story - its simple, straight and short. No side quests.
2 for the world - 4 planets with different nature and sometimes nice exterior, but small, no fast travel and not open-world.
2 for limits - you can't use any transport in the game, no npc's to contact, no market, no loot, no armour, you can't change anything or use anything but the lightsaber and player's original clothing.
Music is classical and i won't score it.

One-time 'Tomb raider' kind of play just for checking the box. Regret the money paid.

It’s sad to think that the artists and designers that worked hard to create the game had to put out a product they knew was not ready.

Although I experienced no game breaking issues the game is plagued by minor issues. The controls in general feel sluggish and imprecise. Ropes, avoiding obstacles while sliding and jumping between balance beams is particularly problematic and I died many frustrating deaths while fighting the controls into doing what I wanted them to do.

The AI in general is poor, enemies seemed to lack any communication between themselves and swamp the player from every direction. This makes the parry mechanics hard to manage and you are often struck by one enemy while you are in the animations for attacking another. Enemies seem able to interrupt your animation yet you are often unable to interrupt your own animation. This is very noticeable while entering a run or when performing a dodge. Enemies are also easy to break and ‘cheese’. You will have enemies reach a doorway while attacking only to turn around and ignore you. One particular boss fight you can just walk through a large natural arch and the boss just walks off.

The game is at is best when you are left to explore and the soul’s like mechanics work well but in general it needed more time in development. It needed more set pieces, improved combat, less backtracking and better rewards for exploration. Hopefully they will learn from their mistakes and release a better sequel.

As someone with limited time to play games, the shame of Fallen Order stems from multiple frustrations. It’s hard to fight and, worse, it’s hard to move. The game’s timing issues distracted me from both the story and the beautifully constructed worlds; I was too focused on simply staying alive. My many (many, many, many) deaths discouraged me from exploring worlds — all of them beautiful — as did the simple fact that traveling by foot (even a Jedi’s Force-enhanced feet) takes forever.
