I don't know how this can be rated 10 - 10 is the Witcher 3 or something like that. That being said I think it's a really good Star Wars game from EA games. It's actually similar to God Of War 4 in many gameplay mechanics - just not as good. The skill system is nice but could be much more expanded. The biggest downside is probably that it takes only ~20 hours to beat (if you do some extras). I'd give it 8 if it been 10 hours longer.

The combat part in the game is not correctly designed, and one single mistake leads to a certain death, creating a lot of frustration. Designing a video game extremely difficult, doesn't make it better, make it clearly something that you wouldn't recommend or spend time/money on it.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I had high hopes but it just didn’t stick the landing. I get lots of people will love this game and that’s okay I’m not here to hate on you for loving the game, just to give my opinion on it. The Story. I feel the story of this game isn’t all that great. It’s not bad, but it’s not good either. It’s just decent. The problem I have is just the base idea “rebuilding the Jedi Order” this is probably the most generic Star Wars story that you can make. When I heard this game was going to be about a Jedi Padawan after Order 66 I was so excited. I thought we were just going to get a game with you playing as a young Jedi right after Order 66 on the run from the newly instated empire. Having to learn the ways of the force by yourself with nothing but your Masters training. Just that would have been great. We didn’t need a “Rebuilding the entire Jedi order, while on the run, and while being hunted by the empire. It’s just too much. I also don’t get the point in the whole Rebuilding the order if we already know it isn’t going to happen. This was just a bad choice in my opinion. Our Protagonist.
The actor playing Cal seems to be doing his best with the script he’s been given but for me he still falls flat. The character is generic and bland. “Blah blah blah light side or dark side blah blah blah Jedi order blah blah blah I’ll be a good guy.” The best characters in this game are the side characters which isn’t a bad thing but Cal is just so absolutely boring for me. You can tell what decisions he’ll make nothing ever surprises me with what he does. It also doesn’t help the Cal just doesn’t look, sound, or act like a badass Jedi. He just looks goofy to me and I know some people agree. Lastly the Customization.
The customization overall in this game is complete garbage. Yes the Lightsaber customization is really good. You really get to make it feel like your own, but that’s it. That’s all the customization. All that’s left is new poncho and outfit colors. Really? Colors? You couldn’t be bothered to make at least one more outfit? When I found out about this I was baffled. I couldn’t believe that they released a game with one single outfit. The best thing about the Force Unleashed games was the outfit customization! You could look like anyone you could look good or evil, Jedi robes, or a Sith monster. It was incredible. I get this game you are 100% a “good guy” which is okay, but we couldn’t get any Jedi robes? Or just a new jacket? It’s pitiful that this is what we got for all the customization. Guess what you get for completely the game on the hardest difficulty? You get nothing. No colors. No outfits, No lightsaber. Nothing. That is absolutely shameful. There is no point in beating the game on the hardest difficulty. All you get is a trophy...

I do have one good thing to say. The gameplay is smooth and the graphics are pretty amazing. It can be a little janky at times but wielding your lightsaber just makes you feel powerful and untouchable which is how it’s supposed to feel. This game just disappointing. For me it misses all the marks. There’s a great game hiding in this one somewhere but it just feels like it’ll never see the light of day. I’m glad people actually like it I’m happy it isn’t a train wreck. Thanks for reading I appreciate it.

It's glitch after glitch here, but the game is fun, and it's playable.

This is the first EA Star Wars game to come out that is truly solid. A big concept it has in it's favor is that there is no wacky monitization scheme implimented in the game. You can tell that this extra planning time got put into developing a game worth playing, or enough so you're willing to overlook the constant glitches. Did I mention the glitches?

If you're a Star Wars fan that enjoys living the power fantasy of being a power sword weilding, space wizard, you're actually in for a treat.

The game is fun. It’s hard to not have a blast while you’re slashing through enemies, fighting giant spiders, or performing uncharted-like platforming & puzzle solving. While it’s all generally fun, the game has some issues. The mini-map is horrible, fights feel repetitive, and overall the game feels like a mixture of games I’ve played before, only with the Star Wars universe behind it.

    Gameplay-wise.
The acrobatics are okay, especially the wall-running and force pulling ropes in mid-air are nice. Though the sliding kind of gets old in the end.
The fighting is a bit clunky, similar hack n slash games such as GOW delivered a much better experience here. There is something about the parry and evade that just doesn't work very well. You can be hit during evade, which is annoying because the parry takes up stamina. Also, the fact that you have to move the camera perspective in fights, doesn't help. There is a lock-on target, but that is annoying too sometimes, because you might lock on to one enemy, having another one behind you. And the game forces you to use this lock-on, because hitting enemies without is hard. All this makes it hard to excel at the combat - I think.
The character customisation is nice, although rather limited, some more variation would have been nice. The force powers are rather limited, so prepare for a more lightsaber-oriented game.

Overall, graphics aside, people have made better star wars games in this genre over ten years ago (Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast).

PS: A cool original plus, the music by The Hu in this game.

Having save points so far apart then creates issues where you are faced with lengthy sections of countless mobs to fight, and if you lose you're back at the very start of the section. Even worse, if you go back to a save point to replenish health and 'health stims' then you will trigger a respawn of all the mobs. The story has some fantastic set pieces - the AT-AT on Kashyyyk - but most of the game is repetitive and going back and forth to the same planets constantly.

I never wrote reviews before but Star Wars is one of my life's most loved story that i learned when i was a small child. Need to say that i love 4-6 chapters of the Lucas's saga shot in 77-82 of the 20th century more than 3 other screened in 2000's. I always wondered why nobody ever created vast open-world RPG based on Star Wars saga. It was a disappointment when i first launched SW Battlefront. Yeah, you can shoot and fly in some classical places of the theme but only multiplayer?! No story, no freedom, you can't feel yourself a part of the world. Just shooter... Battlefront 2 is the same. I was glad to hear that RPG action game is coming based on the story. And when i launched Fallen order - it was another disappointment. Yes, it has some pretty animation. Yes, it has a good fighting system. Yes it has good graphics. But everything else is awful. The story is simple and straight, and short. The world is small and non opened (although you may travel between maps after you discover them). You still can't travel between points inside each map (seriously? in 2019?! in rpg?!!). You have only one quest - main. No side quests. You can't shoot with a blaster (why?), you can't pick anything up, you can't fly or ride any transport. I think EA and Respawn really could do much better. There are a lot of examples like Witcher, Horizon zero dawn, ES5 Skyrim, Legend of Zelda and so on. Just use imagination. But not this time though. The game that ends in 20 hours of straight and far too predictable story telling/playing don't attract at all. I was really excited first 20-30 minutes. But then the play became dull and made me frustrated.

I will give 10 for animations - they are good.
10 for 3d models and fighting - i liked it.
7 for moving - its nice but sometimes you need to do obvious move like jump and catch the rope many times because "the jedi" can't catch it (??)... or you just fall down and die because the player don't see edges of the ground or whatever you stand on.
2 for the story - its simple, straight and short. No side quests.
2 for the world - 4 planets with different nature and sometimes nice exterior, but small, no fast travel and not open-world.
2 for limits - you can't use any transport in the game, no npc's to contact, no market, no loot, no armour, you can't change anything or use anything but the lightsaber and player's original clothing.
Music is classical and i won't score it.

One-time 'Tomb raider' kind of play just for checking the box. Regret the money paid.

It’s sad to think that the artists and designers that worked hard to create the game had to put out a product they knew was not ready.

Although I experienced no game breaking issues the game is plagued by minor issues. The controls in general feel sluggish and imprecise. Ropes, avoiding obstacles while sliding and jumping between balance beams is particularly problematic and I died many frustrating deaths while fighting the controls into doing what I wanted them to do.

The AI in general is poor, enemies seemed to lack any communication between themselves and swamp the player from every direction. This makes the parry mechanics hard to manage and you are often struck by one enemy while you are in the animations for attacking another. Enemies seem able to interrupt your animation yet you are often unable to interrupt your own animation. This is very noticeable while entering a run or when performing a dodge. Enemies are also easy to break and ‘cheese’. You will have enemies reach a doorway while attacking only to turn around and ignore you. One particular boss fight you can just walk through a large natural arch and the boss just walks off.

The game is at is best when you are left to explore and the soul’s like mechanics work well but in general it needed more time in development. It needed more set pieces, improved combat, less backtracking and better rewards for exploration. Hopefully they will learn from their mistakes and release a better sequel.

There were loads of cutscenes that had no animations or absence of lightsaber light. The part where you go training your abilities is just ridiculous, really bad execution. In the rest of the game in general, i didn't seem to care that much.
Glitches: talking about lazyness, there are some points of the game that really drove me crazy due to bugs making me fall from the game world, entirely stuck on a ledge in the middle of the fight, etcs. However, the more frustrating these things are, I didn't find many.
Story (Spoiler Free): A good story, it starts pretty slowly but gets good at the end.
Combat: It's tricky to get used to it, speacially if you're playing in hard difficulty or higher, but the longer the game goes, the better you get.
Story battles: this topic refers to every battle with every mob in the game, including bosses. Starting with the good, the boss battles were pretty satisfying, it really remembers how dark souls works, the one on one jedi duels are great. Now to the downside, encounters like these are pretty rare. The enemies you're most likely to encounter are stormtroopers and the wildlife. The stormtroopers tend to be ok, unless you're against the dark ones, these are really annoying (not challenging) to fight against, it takes several hits to finish them, considering the fact they are normal mobs. The wildlife is the pain in the butt however, it seems 90% of the game you're going up against some random spider of the wild who has insane amounts of health. All the time you get stunned by them in a way they go pillling up on you, stunning you over and over.
Saving/Healing/Upgrade system: Firstly, who thought this was a good idea? To save your game, you have to meditate (stand) on a circle present in some locations, why there isn't an autosave or a save button in the menu? This is stupid. To heal you do the same procedure, but when you do it, the area will restore the enemies. So combining these, the resulting problem is: you travel an area, get pretty weak, you have now the option to heal yourself, but face the tough enemies once again or you can just continue the path to die more ahead. This is a really stupid decision, because there are bosses who dont have the circle in front of them, once you die to them, you gotta go back all the way to the entrance. Similar to that, there are some puzzles (lenghty puzzles) that you solve after a fight, and there isn anywhere to heal, the result is that you die to the next wildlife and has to do it all over again just because there isnt any checkpoints.
Lightsaber: is pretty cool, you can choose the color, but it lacks upgrades, it is purely cosmetic
Movement: wall riding or sliding can be tough here, the game punishes you for not being exactly right while platforming or wall riding, this doesnt make the game challenging, its annoying.

Final verdict: the game has a great story, but many flaws. EA made an average game, and it surprised everyone due to the recent failures such as Anthem and Battlefront II (with the loot system). You don't feel like a jedi until the end of the game (and it might not even be what you expect). Not gonna say it was a waste of time and money, but, if you wanna buy it, I would highly recomend to do it in a sales period.

Good and interesting game and the only reason that it gets a 7/10 is because there is only storymode and I think 60 bucks are a lot for just a story game. I am still waiting for a multiplayer star wars game.

The game was hard, but we just right away turned the difficulty to ‘Story’ and we loved it. We are wusses, and we wear that badge very proudly. I would imagine we would have enjoyed the game a lot less had it even been on Normal, because the Souls influence is strong with this one.

Now, the not-so-good: The backtracking after your work is done on a planet. A fast travel system here would have put this game at a 9 for me, but my kid and I spent two entire sessions just trying to figure out the map of two planets in order to get back to the ship. The map doesn’t tell you which directions are passable or not if you’ve already explored them, meaning that you have to go and see if you can go that way or not, and my mental map is terrible—I’m always lost in real life. For some players who have a stronger sense of internal direction this wouldn’t be an issue, but it was for me.

Anyway, a really fun game, especially for a Star Wars fan—doubly especially for a well-oriented Star Wars fan.

There are constant pop ins, sometimes you walk into a corridor that is not even there because the game hasn’t loaded it yet. Loading times are hilarious given that the game’s environments are quite small and uninspiring. I played the game with patches, I can’t imagine how bad it was on launch. One must think whether this thing went through quality control. One last thing I wanted to mention is that the whole souls-like mechanic doesn’t work for this game, I would find it more engaging and enjoyable if it was a linear experience. Overall, it is 4/10, it is not the quality I would expect from a AAA video game experience. A disappointment to say the least. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Yes, I've been starved for a good Star Wars game - I think we've all been starved for a good star wars game- and EA has done very little to deliver here (surprise, surprise).

So I was very much looking forward to this game when it was released. Unfortunately, it did not live up to my hopes and expectations.

There's no risks taken with this game. No big plot twists or new avenues. What is considered cannon by Disney is really limiting the creativity and endless possibilities that the Star Wars universe offers.

Some of my favorite star wars games were KOTR 1 & 2 and Star Wars Battlefront 1&2 (the originals). Lucas Arts had some duds as well, but they also released some amazing star wars games.

EA has let the Star Wars exclusive license down. I hope Disney picks somebody else to run with it, but I doubt it - just like the NFL continues to blindly trust EA even though Madden has been lacking innovation for years.

The graphics and sounds are generally very good, but the game lacks a true open world feel that it tries so hard to convey. Levels are very linear, character customization while it appears to be vast, end up not being so, as you are limited to ponchos and camos and the skill tree isn't all that exciting.

It's very east to get lost - the holographic map, while a good idea, was not executed well. It's very hard to use and you frequently spend a lot of time trying to find where you want to go. Also, please put in a fast travel to ship as opposed to backtracking all the way back to the ship at the end of each main questline on each planet. So annoying to spend a half hour or more fighting the exact same respawning enemies as you go back to the ship.

Also, speaking of re-spawning enemies, that's not my favorite game design. It kind of messes with the whole in-game immersion where if you kill people, they just re-appear when you come back. I know its a Dark Souls element, but it's not my thing.

I'd much prefer to have the bodies and carnage stay around for the duration of the level. Would feel much more immersive. But it would also require a lot more lines of code and writing to develop counter attacks or other subplots where more enemies are sent in depending on your choices.

Speaking of choices, this is another area where the game fell flat. I didn't feel like choices or exploration mattered. Oh yay, I found a brown and red poncho...

Story was generic and didn't excite me. The combat wasn't bad, but I would have liked to see more realistic lightsaber effects with people, not just creatures. Speaking of creatures, please, less creatures. I don't want to fight off space rats, weird toads and other creatures as much as you had to in this game. That doesn't feel like star wars.

Sadly, I got bored of this game and wasn't able to finish it (got about 50-60% of the way through) and just quit. Not enough to keep me coming back for more.

In some parts seems like the character just misses an obvious ledge or rope resulting in death and loss of health.

The meditation / health mechanic is irritating and also breaks the pace of the game. I wish they had just stuck to a traditional health replenishment system. eg. just find or craft health 'stims' as you go around the game instead of revisiting meditation points which resets enemies, resulting in you having to re-kill them all. And this sucks.

You'll like this game more if you are into the animated Star Wars TV shows - the aliens, creatures and motion in this game feel cartoony and exaggerated to me. Understand the stylised approach from a technical perspective but feels too much.

You spend most of your time fighting seriously overpowered fauna that appear from literally nowhere and get stuck in 'boss fights' with 'Tolkien' type creatures. I don't want to spend my time fighting Orcs and ogres in a SW game to be honest, I'd prefer more one-on-one / group lightsaber battles.

When you do get to fight a group of troopers, fighting multiple enemies can be a bit of a nightmare. You can only really focus on one at a time and that seems to leave you exposed to blaster fire from other troopers quite easily. Constantly evading and not being able to transition smoothly back into attack mode because there's either clunkiness in controls or animations.

Kind of disappointed overall but appreciate the effort to make a single player SW game. When you can figure out a rhythm and obtain more skills in the skill tree, the lightsaber gameplay gets better. I just wish they'd focused more on that overall and less on puzzles and alien fights.

In Jedi fallen order once you swing, you are on-rails and can't run around while doing that, the designers thought that this would stop players from going bonkers and running around making the combat easy, but then you don't feel like a Jedi fighting a Sith, you feel like a character in an action rpg with a huge sword. Cool cinematic's and is fun on the easiest difficulties to slice through enemies feeling as if you have power, but when maintenance robots are one of the hardest enemies, how are you meant to feel you have power. The combat is so repetitive, at the end of the game they just throw the same enemies at you and the combat is just precision block until their stamina is worn enough to attack and with some bosses that can feel like years. i genuinely had no attachment to the characters, apart from your robot friend and the spaceship captain because the main character was too much of a sappy, goody, baby faced hero which would of been fine if it turned out actually he was insanely powerful and on par with Darth Vader who you find out you cant even touch so really you're nothing and left to think why couldn't i just be Luke Skywalker. Like any game, there are problems and glitches, but for the main part, you get an exciting adventure with Cal Kestis trying to remember what the "force" is all about, and also the necessity of friendship.

It is not an instant classic, but it will not be soon forgotten.

I'm talking about something between 35-40 seconds on a PlayStation 4 Pro. If you like challenges and play in harder modes, this is even more frustrating, since it completely breaks your rythm.

Even with long respawns, the game still keeps loading textures on the fly, which is quite ugly. Enemies also spawn late, which leads to some of them appearing right behind you unexpectedly. The combat is clunky and glitchy here and there. It is manageable when you have few enemies, but still leads you to run more away than to face them as it would be expected in a game like this.

Stuff like edges, walls and pipes are just frustrating. The game often misses to grab vines. Regarding pipes if you jump on top of them it is very likely that you will fall, even if you hit it on point! Now imagine that you've just beatten some hard enemies and you are low on health. This happens and now you need to wait 35 seconds to respawn and fight those enemies again... Just frustrating!

The level design is quite good and the puzzles are fun challenging enough. Completionist elements are fun and not tiring as most of the games. Story is also appealing. Eventually I felt that the challenge was the game technical issues and not the game itself. It's sad because I really wanted to like this one. I almost reached the end, but I eventually just gave up. There are too many good games nowadays to play. I won't waste more time with this one. This is way Bellow the expected standards for this kind of production. I don't recommend it, at least the PS4 version. Sadly disappointed

Slightly "above average" game. It has its good moments, very nice Star Wars feeling, but... it looks like work in progress, with lot of technical issues, story is flat, characters also.
There is many awful backtracking sections in it.
In overal, it was sometimesa nice expierence, but not very good one.

As a star wars fan I thoroughly enjoyed the different worlds and little touches like the cinematic as my ship took off from each planet. My main gripe, however, is that whilst the game aims to encourage you to explore each world for its own sake, and even go back to a world after you have done the main story there, there is very little reward for this and nothing really to push you to make that effort. The stuff you discover when exploring a world make little difference to the game - particularly finding parts for your lightsaber (they are purely cosmetic rather than adding anything meaningful) and for that reason can feel hollow in places. Overall the game delivers something fantastic - a proper Star Wars single-player, something that has been conspicuously lacking for years and really sets the tone for what I hope will be more of this type, but a focus needs to be had on making the rich worlds of the star wars universe worth exploring beyond completing the main missions. > Some interesting plot points and story beats

    > No life-service elements, loot boxes, season passes or paid DLC.

    > $3.99 on EA Access (PS4)

    > Can turn off annoying QTEs

    > Changing the difficulty also influences enemy behavior (not just the damage)

    Negatives
    --------------
    >Once you've explored a planet to 50-60%, the holomap is useless. It's horribly designed and confusing to look at and navigate.

    >Combat is clunky - the game is trying to imitate the souls franchise and other FromSoft games, such as Sekiro. However, they don't understand that when you're trying to make an intensely challenging game, the mechanics need to be polished to perfection. When an enemy attacks 2-3 times in the span of a second, you tap the block button and Sekiro parries every single one. The Sekiro comparison applies more to J:FO since both games rely on parry as a core mechanic.

In Fallen Order, the combat isn't responsive enough to handle that style of game design.

    > No point in replaying the game, I finished it in 2 days via EA Access on the PS4, for $3.99.

    > Cosmetics are not interesting enough to encourage you to explore the planet further, which most of the time includes backtracking huge sections of the map.

    > It's canon, so they couldn't afford to change any story or take any creative liberties.

    > Story was generally not very interesting and didn't contain many characters I cared about or found interesting

    > Platforming is clunky

    > A lot of the mechanics copied from other games or franchises are more implemented as an imitation of those franchises and feel like they don't belong in the game.

    > Customizing your lightsaber is pretty pointless, outside of changing the color. The rest of the elements you don't really see most of the time.

    > Bad loot

    Conclusion
    -----------------------------
Waiting for the sequel, hopefully, the combat will be refined and polished and make playing on higher difficulties more tolerable.
A story that is set far before or after the events of the movies will allow for more creative decisions in plot and storytelling. Needs better loot and customization options. Needs more replayability content.

Lightsabers are supposed to be light and effortless to use, but the clunky weight feels like you're swinging a claymore and in addition the timing for parries is somewhere in the stratosphere. You can practice all you like, but the games combat system makes its own rules, and if you're swinging while an enemy is mid animation of attacking you, it won't even register. Make sure when you block you block very, very early or again, the game just won't register it.

    COMBAT
The combat is frustrating. You have to block and dodge like 4 people while trying to focus on one enemy. you get hit multiple times and die. even if you win you don't heal, and will likely die very soon after that. And with there being so few saves during the mission, you must travel to the same place over, and over, and over again. And the AI is very dumb and only has a certain radius before being reset.

    CONTROLS
You can tell that this game was not meant for the PC. Pc controls are just outrageously bad. If you connect a controller they are tolerable, but all in all mediocre.

    STORY
the story ties in really well with clone wars, rebels, and revenge of the sith, and does decently well on its own. the characters are....alright.

    MOVEMENT
this may not be a regular subject but I just had to bring this to attention. Cal, the character you play feels SO SLOW. when he runs, climbs, rolls, gets up,crawls, squeezes through spaces. He just isn't exciting to play as.

    WORTH THE PRICE?
no, it is not worth its price...now. I say if you bump the price down to at most 35, it would be worth it. And don't even think about getting the deluxe edition unless it's on sale for below $20. It's just cosmetics.

it's a pretty good-looking game with a great story, just needs fixing with the game mechanics...

The main characters are unlikable and the story is nothing any SW fan hasn't seen twenty times already.
The Dark Souls death mechanics definitely don't mix well with the Uncharted climbing.
And finally (on the regular PS4); load times are atrocious, frame rate drops common, screen tears all the time, and the whole game freezes for a good 10 seconds now and then completely.
I really don't understand how this is getting so much praise...

As someone with limited time to play games, the shame of Fallen Order stems from multiple frustrations. It’s hard to fight and, worse, it’s hard to move. The game’s timing issues distracted me from both the story and the beautifully constructed worlds; I was too focused on simply staying alive. My many (many, many, many) deaths discouraged me from exploring worlds — all of them beautiful — as did the simple fact that traveling by foot (even a Jedi’s Force-enhanced feet) takes forever.
