In this case, the game has been almost entirely scrubbed free of microtransactions and P2W mechanics. So you can now experience all of its solid content without having to suffer through EA's greed.

The game's meat may come from its competitive multiplayer, but the single-player campaign is really underappreciated. Set immediately after the events of RotJ, the plot puts you in the role of an elite Imperial trooper during the Empire's final days. I had no previous interest in this is a period of the timeline, but due to the quality of its writing and acting I quickly became invested in the adventure from a narrative standpoint. Not least of all because approaching the conflict from a viewpoint other than that of the Rebel Alliance allowed for some surprising insights into how the other side saw the war, as well as there being cool revelations into things like how all those destroyed ships we saw on Jakku in The Force Awakens got there.

Of course I was also onboard with the gameplay side of it as well. It's a mix of boots on the ground action and aerial dogfighting strung together by memorable setpieces and the occasional chance to play as fan favorite characters like Han Solo or Princess Leia. Essentially, it's the Star Wars themed Call of Duty I never knew I wanted. The brevity and relative simplicity of it's mission design keep it from being terribly replayable however. So in order to get your money's worth you're going to need an internet connection.

The online portion of Battlefront II offers a lot of variety in terms on modes, maps, and playable characters. There's easily enough here to keep you coming back for hundreds of hours. Provided you get past the initial impressions that is. The multiplayer can be tough to get into at first due to how awful the starting weapons are, as well as the upgradable "star cards" that increase your chosen classes' overall effectiveness being locked behind some level requirements that are pretty hefty given what a disadvantage you're at against more experienced players without them. It also has the least reliable aiming I've seen in a shooter's competitive half since Duke Nukem Forever. All of this is somewhat offset by the game's arcade and cooperative options which allow you to find your footing without having to face other people, but honestly has playing matches against AI bots ever been fun?

What makes Battlefront II worth sticking with until you unlock better blasters and find the combination of star cards that works best for you in spite of all this is simply the fact that it's bloody Star Wars. Developer DICE pulled material from across every era of the franchise. Which means you can participate in the biggest battles from each trilogy while being immersed in sound design that's authentic to the films and the stunning visuals of the Frostbite engine.

Most matches start off with you selecting one of four basic troop types. The points you earn by completing objectives and getting kills can be spent on stronger units and vehicles that feel exactly like you would expect based on what you've seen in theaters. This extends to the playable heroes as well. Familiar faces like Yoda, Rey, and more can be selected and act as powerhouses that can change the entire course of a game depending on your skill level. As frustrating as it can be to get repeatedly killed by some lightsaber user, it never feels unfair as a lot of time must be invested in order to master each character's abilities. You can't say they didn't earn the victory as someone else could choose the same jedi and get mowed down instantly. Plus, it makes sense that Darth Vader would leave legions dead at his feet.

The only time all this fidelity is a problem is when it comes to the map design. Each locale is gorgeous and a blast to run around in because of all the little touches that sell the feeling of actually being in the Star Wars universe, but the layouts are faithful to a fault. Their arrangements may make sense for a film, but feel haphazard in a video game. Some locations suffer from choke points and zones that are too exposed to effectively defend or are too closed off to launch a proper attack on. All things that hurt the objective based modes, particularly when they give one team an unfair leg up over the other.

There's plenty one could take issue with in Battlefront II, but it's worst problems (the money-grubbing) are now behind it. DICE succeeded at what they set out to do. Namely, delivering the bombastic thrill of the movies while letting you take part in signature events as a key player in them. As a Star Wars fan, I couldn't ask for much more even if there is still room for improvement.

The game is fantastic, looks absolutely amazing, plays really well and can really be its own thing, separate from Battlefield.

Giving it a 0 is not in my interest, I fully agree that the practices with the loot boxes ruins certain aspects of the game and makes progression feel distant and even unfair at certain points.

Still, great game, fun to play!

I cannot give the game low score because the game plays well now. Progression is not that bad at all. I already unlocked some heroes and the progression does not feel that bad. It feels like EA is trying hard to undo the bad publicity surrounding the game. if you like Star Wars i would suggest buying the game. Geez. This game has so much potential. On it's own there is a lot to like about this game, a roster of favorite characters awesome flying segments and an overall design that feels like star wars. Too bad EA made this.

The Loot Crate and progression systems are frustrating and poorly conceived, but the multiplayer sure is fun. In terms of play, I would say that it is a huge step forward from the last entry. Don't buy before reading about crate/progression systems. Some people will not be ok with it.

Taking the battlefield classes into every generation of star wars with the fixed star card system rewarding investing time in each class as you unlock more cards as you level up, which carries over to heros and ships aswell. The tokens from the first game are gone and now heroes and specialists are usable through your performance through battle points, which rewards good play and not luck which is a massive improvement over its predecessor. The game captures the look and sound of stars wars perfectly like the previous game but they brought the gameplay to match. The gunplay is smooth and precise particularly in 3rd person and the star fighting while took a bit of getting used to is an unexpected highlight. Heroes are fun to play with unique abilities obliterating opponents but hero v hero is a bit clunky, however with 22 heros 11 on each side, all available from the start all with their own star cards to unlock adds replayability to a satisfying gameplay loop. In conclusion while it stumbled out the gate dices battlefront 2 is a great time, I'm always down to play a few matches of supremacy and recommend it to all star wars fans Expand

Lamentable.

Original Review: I will never buy a digital game months in advance again. Battlefront 2 was my most anticipated game for this year and after dumping 30 hours into it since Tuesday I can confidently say I want my $60 back. It's sad that a game released in 2017 has less appeal and content then the game it was based on that released in 2005. I can tell that a lot of love went into the game but unfortunately shoddy business tactics ruin the entire experience. I'm done with these "freemium" $60 games developers keep shoving down our throats, I make my stand here and I will no longer tolerate this deplorable market of filth. EA and DICE, don't try to tell us microtransactions are optional and then lock the game behind hundreds if not thousands of hours of gameplay if a person doesn't want to pay. Games ARE optional, nobody has to play your game. There are tons of great games on the market RIGHT NOW that are cheaper and don't nickle and dime us with petty paywall nonsense. Hopefully this game crashes and burns, I'd be surprised if it holds its $60 pricemark for 2 months.

If you guys do this to Battlefield 5 I'm never buying another EA game again.

I don't care that they've already dropped the costs associated with unlocking the most expensive characters (Vader, etc), because the root of the issue is still front and center; paying anything above $60 for the baseline content of the game is unacceptable and driven by corporate greed. It's evident that EA cares nothing for their player-base, because if they did, they wouldn't be nickel-and-diming us the way they currently are in SWBF II. To keep it PG - Shame on you, EA. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Right off the bat I noticed a better and more responsive UI on the title screen and menu screens. Something about Battlefront I just never felt like it was reacting to me or my button clicks. Currently I have only played the Single Player campaign, but based on the Beta Multiplayer looks like more Battlefront.

As for Single Player I felt the set piece cinematics, actor performances and in game visuals were good. Playing on an original Xbox One, there's probably a better graphical result for in engine cut scenes on PC or when a 4K patch comes out for the Xbox One X. The "First Act" feels stronger and more coherent than the remainder of the game. I am excited to be an Imperial Agent and working on a super secret last will mission of the Emperor. However, in what is the first of many quick switches, that doesn't seem to be what we get to play. We never find out what the Emperor's mission is...or even what becomes of it. Perhaps it will become clear in the story DLC to release in December.

After a single play through I do feel like i missed something. Certain character motivations and turning points seem to be very on the spot and out of character. Prior to playing I had read the prequel novel associated with the game and it does flesh out character aspects and passions more in depth but does not give credence to the snap decisions many of the hardcore Imperial characters make in the game. It almost feel like there should be a couple extra stand alone scenes depicting inner turmoil for these characters before their antithesis moments. There is also a romantic element that seems to come out of nowhere-even if you read the novel. The one side character you won't have trouble figuring out motivations for is Shriv; your Duros comic relief. Always with a snide comment or sarcastic retort, he lightens the mood and feels very aware of the things I was not picking up on. Shriv steals whatever scene he's in.

The "ending" is an attempt to tie in to the new film series and is most likely why there is a story DLC slated for December, which is when Episode 8 releases. There is even a scene where Luke takes a "compass" that we have never scene before that is most likely a teaser to Ep. 8. There is also a reference to specifics of the Emperor's plan-first time since starting the game-and it is a little frustrating again because it is obviously apart of the new trilogy plot line.

I'm sure people will want to know about the "EEEeeeevil" micro-transactions that "bog" down multiplayer. At this moment I have no experience with micro-transactions or multiplayer. I suppose I should note that I purchased the Ultimate Edition-which I guess gives me a **** ton of stuff...My Kylo Ren is already level 10 but I don't know how he got there. I feel the MTX issue has been hyberbole-ed to death. I personally don't plan to spend extra on them-that's a choice that means more than whining, baby crying on the internet or Reddit.

Its all in all very solid game. Now the lootboxes micro-transaction crap is of course disgusting, but even when paying real money is disabled, its a problem after roughly 10 hours of game. First few hours, you will be getting enough cards, basic ones, which creates illusion that it will be all good and progression is fine. Problem comes later on, when you want to acquire or craft better cards. Its brutal how long it takes to upgrade stuff. Feels extremely like a free to play game.
Another thing is buying heroes. You have to earn game credits to buy the crates or buy heroes. Its very rare you get to play in the game a hero, because you must do realy well. So majority of the time, you are playing as regular class. Because of that you are inclined to buy crates, which give you cards for regular classes, rather than buying new heores, which you have to save up for. As a result of that, you realy dont get to play heroes you want to play as ( Darth Vader for example ). Which is crazy. If you pay $60 for game, you shouldnt be cornered to a position like this. You have to grind 15000 credits ( earning roughly 200 per match ) to buy Vader, which you then get to play very rarely, since as mentioned, its very difficult to actualy play any hero in the game ( takes a lot effort to earn match credits to afford them, match credits and game credits are different thing ).

Then there small annoying issues like not being able to select what maps you want to play. Only 4 weapons per class, while the obviously best one is the last one you earn and thats after 500 kills with given class.

These are all basically secondary things ruining otherwise very fun, beautiful game.

What is one of the most fun parts in the game at the begging is getting to play as all these characters, vehicles in a match by earning the match credits. You get to play all kinds of vehicles you can think of, ride on TaunTauns, BattleDroid, use speeders, X-wings, there is so much stuff. All of them have unique abilities, are fun to use and work much better than in previous Battlefront. But of course it is eventually spoiled with the cards, you will be focusing on when playing the game long term.

If you have huge craving for Star Wars, i think its worth getting the game, eventho you will have to deal with the terrible progression system. If you were outraged by the controversy over microtransations, i would suggest to not buy the game, not only to support the boycott, but you will also be pretty annoyed later on after the initial magic and spectacle wears off after few hours, because after that you are left with this terrible grind, which leaves bad taste in a mouth, at least in my mouth it does.

I can't recall the last time I enjoyed a campaign so much. Iden and her squadmates are actually great characters and well-acted. Iden in particular is tough and resourceful, and a welcome addition to the broader universe. The campaign's story bridges Return of the Jedi and Force Awakens, which adds some nuggets of mystery to the new trilogy. At times the campaign feels a bit 'on rails' where the tension is entirely scripted and regardless of how long it takes you to achieve the goal you will achieve it, but overall I didn't notice, I was having too much fun. Also, the challenge curve is kind of all over the place. Most levels are quite easy but every now and then they will surprise you with a ridiculously tough scenario. The cut-scenes are beautiful and some of the best in recent memory. It was particularly cool to see the broadside cannons on the Star Destroyers, something we never saw in the movies. Also if you're a fan of the X-Wing miniatures game, the Imperial Raider gets serious screen time here!
Multiplayer is fun and I enjoy it more than Battlefront 1. I feel like you live a few seconds longer and it's no longer quite the meat grinder. The maps are varied and jaw-dropping in scope and action. The amount of ambient action going on is wild, for instance when battling around the Mos Eisley Cantina droids scurry about as NPC stormtroopers hassle locals, Dewbacks lumber by, and if you're in the air you can spot a Sandcrawler on the edge of town. Just loaded with details that make each world super rich. As for the loot crates, yes it is frustrating to leave so much class progression up to what is essentially a dice roll, but I'm awful at the game and earn a few crates every night. I do hope they add more trooper skins and also the ability to squad up with friends. It's a very weird omission that you can't stick with your friends, each time you die you're plopped into a random squad making coordinated teamwork basically nonexistent.
The offline modes are also very fun, although I wish there was an option to replay the combat scenarios with any hero you want.
Overall I like this game leaps and bounds over Battlefront 1 and as a Star Wars fan they just knocked it out of the park with the overall atmosphere and details.

Star Wars Battlefront II is a very underrated game. It's really not that bad. EA and DICE clearly took fan feedback seriously and gave us a Star Wars game with all eras and an excellent single player campaign. While there are occasional glitches and a few flaws, its a good game overall.

Multiplayer Content: Battlefront II's multiplayer modes feature maps from many planets across all eras. In terms of content, there are unfortunately far fewer multiplayer game modes than the first game. The modes the game does have, however, are a lot of fun. Like in the previous game, you have Blast, where two teams simply try to kill each other. There is also Strike, which features objective based battles. My personal favorite is Starfighter Assault which has objective based space battles that are much better than the first game. Finally, there is Heroes Vs Villains, an epic game mode where two small groups of your favorite movie characters fight. The main thing I really don't like about the game modes is that they don't relate to any of the movies. It would be really cool to have a multiplayer space battle where you get to blow up the Death Star like in the first game. Also, you don't get to chose which map you play on, which is a huge disappointment.

Game Mechanics: The new Battlepoints system is a huge pro to this game. In the first game, you could only play as heroes by finding hero pickups, which were very difficult to get ahold of. Battlefront II fixed this flaw with Battlepoints, points you earn while playing online that you can redeem to play as a hero or to hop in a Starfighter or tank. The only little flaw with this system is that the heroes are too expensive, in my opinion. In terms of controls and combat, it is more or less the same as the first game. The only main difference is in Starfighter Assault where they got rid of the targeting computer for primary weapons, making it more challenging to kill. I love this because you actually have to AIM while firing on other ships: it is more realistic. Like in the last game, you get Star Cards for each character to give them added abilities. The bad thing about this is that you can only get Star Cards from Loot Crates, which are way too expensive. Another flaw with this is that if you get a Star Card for a hero, you needed to have unlocked that hero to equip it. The fact that you have to unlock heroes is bad enough, but at least make them cheap: it costs thousands of credits just to unlock one hero. Not only do you have to unlock heroes, you also have to unlock blasters: you can't just buy them like in the last game. With all these flaws in gameplay, you don't progress very much in the game.

Arcade: In addition to the campaign, you can also play the arcade by yourself or with a friend. The arcade unfortunately only features 2 single player modes, 2 co-op modes, and not enough maps. Playing by yourself, you can be a hero and go up against how every many enemies you want or you can fight in team battles. In co-op, you can do a team battle or a duel between 2 heroes. The only other thing the arcade has is Battle Scenarios, a list of different battles you can fight in across all eras with lots of characters.

Single Player Campaign: My favorite part of Battlefront II has to be the addition of a story mode. In the campaign, you usually play as Inferno Squad leader Iden Versio with the exception of a few missions that you play as movie characters. The story basically tells you what happens between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, which I have always wondered about. In terms of difficulty, there are 3 different difficulty settings that you can change at any time to get the optimal gameplay experience.

    Pros:
    - Graphics look almost like real life
    - Excellent single player campaign
    - Gameplay across all eras
    - New Starfighter mechanics
    - The Battlepoints system
    - The new Heroes Vs Villains multiplayer game mode
    - New patches and DLCs
    Cons:
    - Not enough multiplayer game modes
    - Lack of movie-related gameplay
    - Not enough arcade modes
    - Lack of ability to chose which maps you play online
    - Poor progression system
    - Restricted heroes and weapons
    - Occasional glitches

Verdict: Overall, Battlefront II is an improvement in some ways, but also a regression in other ways. The game is certainly a lot of fun, and I'm sure it will only get better with updates and DLCs. The amount of flaws in the game, however, limit Battlefront II to being a "good" game at best.

    Scores:
    Graphics/Sound - 5/5
    Gameplay - 5/5
    Gameplay Mechanics - 2/5
    Content - 3/5

Star Wars Battlefront 2. A game with a pretty decent campaign and overall good gameplay that is instantly ruined by micro transactions. Lootcrates that lead directly to pay 2 win schemes in a premium $60 games.

    Stay away from this game.

Game has improved much over the years. Its worth playing now.

Overall it's a good game, although it does have its flaws. The maps are stunning and the game play is also very pleasing. The credit earning system needs to be more skill based rather than just time played rewards. If you are considering buying the game understand that you will have to put a very large amount of time in if you want to get anything good for your character.

A zero out of ten score implies that there is absolutely nothing good in a game. It implies that there barley was a game, that you put in the disc, and a never-ending black screen greets you. As a shooter, Star Wars Battlefront II is well above average, and is worth your time, no matter what other people say. Dice said that change will be a constant, and that they will tweak and fix the scummy parts of the game. Expand

    Hey Guys,

I believe that this game is gorgeous. It looks stunning, sounds amazing and feels like Star Wars. It immerses you in one of the 3 epic ages of Star Wars history: Clone Wars, Rise and Fall of the Empire and the New Order vs. the Resistance. In order to understand this game let us compare it with the last installment of the series and take a look at how much DICE (&EA)
    Hey Guys,

I believe that this game is gorgeous. It looks stunning, sounds amazing and feels like Star Wars. It immerses you in one of the 3 epic ages of Star Wars history: Clone Wars, Rise and Fall of the Empire and the New Order vs. the Resistance.

In order to understand this game let us compare it with the last installment of the series and take a look at how much DICE (&EA) listened to our hopes for this game:

Lets look at what STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT 2 does better:

    - offers a by far wider variety in planets and locations (from all 3 Ages)
    - includes 6 unique Star Wars Factions (with their own vehicles etc.)
    - has a class system that was wished for from the community --> gives a true feeling of Star Wars IMO
    - maps seem to have a little more variety to them and the small cutscenes actually make me feel like im
    in the battles themselves
    - has a single player campaign (average but OK I guess (would give it a 6.5/10 for solo campaigns) -->
also gives you a lot of rewards for multiplayer)
    - allows for more customization in classes with guns / attachments
    - has on paper the better star card system than the last one (if you leave aside the p2w aspect)
    - has NO season pass!!!

But what does this game do worse than the last one?

    - Microtransactions = EA`s greed for the Star Wars license
    - From a point onwards slow progression (they want to make us buy Crystals)

In terms of graphics, soundtrack and map design this game is on par with the first installment if not maybe better.

Let us talk about unlocks: DICE already decreased the price of the heroes. After 6h story and 6h multiplayer I am currently sitting on 43.000 Credits and 300 Parts. This is enough to unlock Darth Vader + Luke + Leia / or open almost 11 Trooper-Crates and uprgade some star cards.
In my opinion this is more than enough for a good start into multiplayer.

Don´t get me wrong. I think that the grind starts after you spend your first credits. In order to unlock something afterwards it takes hours in game. This is something that needs to be addressed ASAP!

--- NOW: Why do I believe this game is better than the last one? ---

In my opinion we got half a game for $60 for the first Star Wars Battlefront (2015). The game was lackluster and was not fun after 50 hours of gameplay. After you sink your teeth into that game you feel like there was nothing to unlock, nothing more to do, nothing to play it for anymore. It was fun for around 40 hourse before realizing it was just a hull of what is was intended to be.
This game at least let`s you grind for something and makes you stay longer playing and wanting that new hero, unlockable and so on.

The soul of the first game`s experience was ripped out and was sold to us for $50 more -- SEASON PASS.

Star Wars BATTLEFRONT 2 gives you practically all the content from the last game + season pass + 2 completely untouched factions in the last game from day one as well as a Single player Campaign.

I therefore would rather choose the microtransactions than the season pass because you can still grind for all items in game but not for a season pass unlock in the first installment of the series.

In my opinion SWBF2 is a far superior game to the 2015 version of SW Battlefront.

    DO NOT MISUNDERSTAND:

I completely understand the hate this game got from the community. I agree that a game that is full price should neither include a season pass, nor microtransactions of any kind. For a completely fair user experience their should be no shortcuts allowed for any player.
Everything should be unlocked through an achievement system of some kind that is fun and enjoyable to play through.

    Let`s see what happens next.
I would rate this game after around 12h of gameplay a 7/10. Maybe even higher if they fix the microtransactions p2w aspect.

They've improved the Space Combat, Hero "drops" and added a ton of new maps and a single payer campaign. However, the Loot Box Style progression system is a grind-fest and rather boring and the ground combat Multiplayer isn't that balanced.

Playing the game is fun but not great. Star Wars fans will like it more than non die-hard fans will.

This is all based on the multiplayer gameplay. I haven't tried the campaign yet. I usually don't do campaigns in these types of games.

Some things I think need changed for the game to have any longevity: 1. This game absolutely NEEDS a conquest mode. It will add a ton of variety and replay value. PLEASE DICE! I know you can do it. (if this game had Conquest, I would give it an 8)

    1. This game absolutely NEEDS a conquest mode. It will add a ton of variety and replay value. PLEASE DICE! I know you can do it. (if this game had Conquest, I would give it an 8)
    2. More optimization for weapons. More weapons in general would be nice, but I think those are coming in the future.
    3. The ability to spawn on teammates and more abilities that help other teammates for classes besides the officer. I haven't really thought of it, but for example, the Assault class, when using Vanguard, could also speed boost the people around him.

I don't really have a problem with the current unlock system. Paying to be able to unlock a hero is a bit sketchy though, but you do already have half or more of the heroes already unlocked and ready to play. When I was reading comments about how random the unlocks are and as you play one class, you unlock star cards for other classes, I was not happy about it at all. After playing the game for a while though, it doesn't bother me. The reason this doesn't bother me is because you get a lot of crafting tokens that will allow you to unlock whichever star card you want, given you are high enough level for it. This makes the star cards you get from the loot crates just an added bonus. The amount of crafting points you get should probably go up.

However, that being said, there should absolutely be some kind of skin unlocks and character appearance customization.

Also, playing the class you want will unlock weapons for that class as well as mods for those weapons.

The gameplay is a lot of fun so far. Galactic Assault can be a bit one sided a lot of the time, but that can be fixed with an update. I have only experience a few glitches and some lag, but overall the game feels great. Everything feels smooth and if you ever played Battlefield 3, 4 or 1, you know that it is a damn miracle that this game plays as well as it does at launch.

I'm not saying everyone else is wrong, these are just my thoughts to someone that is on the fence about getting the game.

A game with high expectations let down by corporate greed, really makes me sad to realize that's what we have come to.

I wont hate harshly about the online shenanigans as it hopefully will improve over time but also as i bought this game with the hope of a thrilling story and to relive some old memories of the originals through arcade mode, oh how i was disappointed.

The graphics were lovely and the voice acting felt on par to that of the films, but the rest was somewhat lacking. First there is offline arcade mode, I'm someone who devotes time into single player games and doesn't care much for online. So when i heard that this game had offline game modes i was already dreaming about the large scale maps and different classes, but that was not the case.

Jumping into arcade mode was less than appealing and game play didn't make up for it, to start there are limited maps and i mean about 5 compared to that of say that of Battlefront 2 (the one from 2005) that had loads of maps to play and all sorts of game modes. so with being generous i gave the Theed palace map ago (bear in mind i had completed the story and the mission on the Theed/Naboo map), but oh was it disappointing, limited and enclosed and nothing to make it feel like a large scale battle, and the other maps followed suit.

So arcade mode was upsetting, but the story has to be good right, wrong. Lets just say your better off buying a Ps2 and playing the original Battlefront and its sequel rather than dishing out some money form a game that cant even hold a candle to the classics.

On a final note, its a shame that large money grabbing companies like EA, spend a few months to make a less than half decent game just so they can profit from it, if they spent a couple of years developing this game and support both online and offline players then maybe we would have something that players and fanatics of the franchise can enjoy, but as long as money is the driving force that will only live in memory.

Now campaign the last thing i never did the campaign but seen vids about it i dont want to spoil anything about the story incase anyone wants to play it but the story from what i seen is OK to bad it not worth what i seen i heard it repetitive and the marketing for the campaign was a lie it spoilers to say what it was so i wont say it but the campaign your choice if u want to do it or not. that is all i have to say about this game i gave it a 7 cause me and my brothers play it alot and i think it fun with friends it will never beat the old BF2 but still a fun game has alot problems that depends on the person to ignore or not 7.0 for me i hope this review helps u want to buy the game or not Expand

    (2) The story is rushed as the campaign doesn't last long.
    (3) Fighting as Luke can get out of hand as his movements are kind of all over the place.
    (4) Wish there was a cover system.
    (5) Han Solo looks and sounds kind of weird.
    (6) Non-friendly and friendly AI is dumb. I would literally use a machine gun on one of those big machine walkers and the storm troopers weren't alarmed at all as they just continued patrolling their areas. I was like WTF! Also there was a mission where my friendly ally would literally run right past the storm troopers and the troopers weren't alarmed at all. Another WTF moment.
    (7) the save system sucks
    (8) the ending was lame

If they do come out with a Battlefront 3, hopefully it is a lot better than this. While this game does have many of its flaws i still liked the game for the most part, but not as much as i wanted to.

Obviously, the thing that sells this game, are those beautiful graphics! After the mediocre campaign, I jumped right into the multiplayer, hoping that its better. No. It wasn't. The multiplayer was so unfair do to the pay to win system, which EA has created. For months it was a big giant mess. But after around 2018 EA has finally made some changes. They got rid of the loot crates. Well, most of it. You can now only buy them from in-game credits. They also changed the messy star card system. They added 3 new heroes, 1 new map and the time when I am writing this review, Anakin is nearly out with a new game mode. After this, I can only say one thing. Is this what took so long? To see this game have a user score of 1 is just ridiculous and is unfair on the game and everyone involved in its creation. Graphically it is very nice, it feels like Star Wars and sounds like it.

Let’s start with the campaign, this will be short just like the length of the campaign itself. It’s fine, nothing more nothing less. It takes around 4 hours. It’s predictable and simple, verging on boring at times, it doesn’t really fill in anything in terms of the story between the films. It’s fine.

I have played the online when it first came out and after the most recent updates and honestly don’t think the difference is that major. Yes if people have either played it more or previously purchased the loot boxes you are at a disadvantage. However if you persevere you will hold your own, it’s not difficult just slightly frustrating at times but you will have matches where you do exceptionally well and place in the top 5 (even without decent upgraded star cards). The modes are fun, particularly the flying stands out to me and makes me want another Rogue Squadron game. Heroes are overpowered but you would kind of hope so.

The battle scenarios are quite honestly pointless. They are what you would expect about 15 years ago when playing against the AI before online games were a thing. It is really just a tutorial for playing as the heroes masquerading as a mode.

Overall this is a good game that does not deserve the hate it is getting. It has been in the headlines for its micro transactions and they have since adjusted this. The game does not have a season pass and they update it with new content. People need to stop hating for the sake of hating. I have played many games over my life and could never truly say this game is a 1, look at it critically and honestly not just based on the fact it’s cool to hate on EA and jump on the bandwagon.

It's clear that as a Battlefield, this game wants to focus on the MultiPlayer, which is quite entertaining, limited and with its several connections in comparison with such franchise. I didn't start playing from day one, but I know the box and microtransactions system was hated by gamers, even though it has now been retired. During this couple of years the MP has received free updates, and they seem to be quite good. It's not a perfect gameplay but it has kept me entertained for quite some time.

Its the best Star Wars game existing. It deserves a way better rating. Sure it misses legendary characters like Ahsoka and Padme and needs some fixes and tweaks but its definitly not as bad as the rating shows. It improved very much since launch and got rid of its biggest minus points thanks to the developer team. It deserves more content updates.

The progression system was built to entice you/your children to spend money on loot boxes. It is aggravatingly slow to accomplish the challenges in the game so that you get annoyed and keep making purchases of a couple bucks. There are serious competitive advantages for spending money - which means this game has zero competitive integrity. Right now microtransactions have been turned off temporarily, but since the progression system was built around microtransactions, the entire thing is broken.

To summarize, great game design and gameplay, but terrible execution by EA's execs on progression. Ruined an otherwise fantastic game.

Before I start, I’m going to make it clear that I’m not a star wars fan…
I’m reviewing this game as a game.. license unattached…
And if you’re not a star wars fan, this 4 and a half hour long campaign is a gigantic waste of your time.
This is easily the most generic garbage I’ve ever suffered through...
IT plays, is delivered, and feels like a 2010 ps3 game…
The campaign tells the story of Iden Versio mostly... though not primarily…
Infact half of the time not at all…
You get a bit of a perspective of the dark side, as shes the commander of the inferno squad
but the game make a huge mistake of following different paths of multiple heroes... characters you know...
minor spoilers, but youll be light sabering it up which was easily my favorite parts of this campaign…
And these great moments are interrupted with space battles that go on way too long and an uninspired least fun of all time linear 3rd person shooting adventure where you can play around with the idea of cards.. As every hero you play in the campaign has their own special moves on a cool down they can use... but as iden you can swap these cards for different grenade tpyes for example... or perk like health regeneration and shield...
I found the campaign to be a great way to introduce the mechanics of the online and for that reason is worth checking out… but nothing more as it’s just a bunch of shoot everything in your way while you get to a checkpoint, and defending positions while an npc interacts with an item… that’s it..
There are a few okay missions here and there… but none of them are ever fun... at all...
Again if you’re not a star wars fan just use it as a tutorial mode and get out of there...
There’s no fun, no meaningful story... theres nothing here…
Though completing the campaign does reward you with credits and loot boxes to give you a little head start online...
Thankfully the online unlike the campaign is fun and is this games saving grace
Online features 5 different modes, the 2 big ones 40 player classic assault which is objective based of defending and attacking positions or items and there’s the 24 player Starfighter assault, which is a bit like classic but in space…
these 2 game modes aren’t really what I enjoy in competitive modes and had me more frustrated with the pay to win feel of the game where players can all have more powerful cards, and again with 40 players running around you’re going to die pretty quickly in this mode if you’re a newbie..
You’re better off building yourself up in the other 3 modes first and coming back to these 2 later
I was afraid I was going to tear this game apart in my review until I played these much smaller game modes there’s blast with is 20 player call of duty style team death match, 16 player strike which is another objective based game mode,
All 4 of these modes you’ll be getting kills and earning points to bring in support from heroes and star craft to clean house and potentially turn the tables in a losing battle…
and then there’s my personal favorite 8 player heroes vs villains… where there is no saving up points..
Everyone starts as a hero character and it’s a game of attacking targets while defending your team mate…
This mode is a blast to me, and by itself changed my overall opinion of this game..
Everyone feels over powered... it’s just a matter of who can use their powers the best...
The controversy of this game comes mostly in the microtransactions which are currently disabled...
But there is a loot crate system where you can buy crates with credits earned in game from clearing challenges and finishing matches… and in these crates are cards, credits, and crafting materials…
Cards are bonuses you can attach to your characters... and this is what makes the game feel pay to win…
Your characters don’t get stronger by you using them.. They only get stronger by luck of the drawn…
Though you are able to craft cards of your choice with the crafting parts you earn and you can increase the power of these cards with these parts... though these are a bit rare
I don’t find these cards to be as big of an issue in smaller modes oddly because I feel youre given more space to rely on your skill as a player…
But in the larger modes youll definitely notice the buffed up players as their cards flash across your screen while theyre killing you over and over again with their upgraded grenades and turrets…
    its annoying..
Star Wars Battlefront 2 is a bit of a let down to me, and im not even a star wars fan…
But there is fun to be had here in its online.. Especially in its smaller modes...
I give Star Wars Battlefront 2
    a 6.5/10

SWBF2 is a mix of good and less good things. I bought it way after the microtransactions scandal, so I’ll pass that part (but keeping in mind it still happened).

There is a lot of content when it comes to gameplay: many characters and some vehicles, each of them having their own abilities, which brings a lot of variation possibilities. The number of maps is more than decent as well, and so is the number of game modes. I personally have a preference for coop, despite the many disconnects. The problem with competitive MP is that it all comes down to your character’s level. Someone having maxed his character’s abilities out is necessarily going to crush anyone else who doesn’t. On one side of things that creates something to grind for, which is perfectly acceptable in coop, but it ruins the competitive modes of the game. Confrontations with maxed out players are so unbalanced when you are a beginner. And I don’t see that bringing any good. This is even more dramatic in the spaceship mode, where the higher level you are, the more health your ship has…

To come back on positive aspects, I could also state the fact I never encountered any network problem playing online with friends. Or I could also note the nice artistic direction for the campaign (which is unfortunately short and quite uninteresting story-wise and gameplay-wise).

Sadly, that’s all I can think of for the good things of the game. It’s quite honestly a very normal game having nothing more to show than what the competition already has. It is below the quality of a good Battlefield game Multiplayer speaking for example. In this game’s MP, I hate to see the heroes constantly spammed (I don’t wish to wait in the lobby until one of them is available on the team). I also hate to see how OP they are. Heroes are almost impossible to kill if you engage them with a normal soldier (which represents 80% of your time in MP) and that is super frustrating.

Lastly, I want to come back on the campaign. As I said it has a good artistic direction, but it also has a very bad AI, and the scenario is way too cliché. At no moment at all were I thrilled by the idea of progressing in the campaign to know more about the story. It is just not interesting. Moreover, the gameplay in the campaign is very dull and doesn’t bring anything more than what the MP modes already offer. The campaign is thus virtually useless in my opinion because the story isn’t even good.

In conclusion, SWBF2 is a just a decent FPS. It may be more than that for die-hard Star Wars fans, as it is full of characters. That said, combat can be fade in this game, and it has all the problems I stated above. That’s why I believe that the only people who will love this game are part of a small niche. But for players like me, it just isn’t good enough for me to ever go back on it now that I finished it.

My biggest complain with the campaign is the character development, which is often quite rushed. Because of that I never really cared about the character.

The multiplayer on the other hand is actually quite fun. There are six multiplayer game modes. Galactic Conquest is the biggest and the most fun game mode, with everything the game has to over. That includes hero’s and vehicles. However this game made has some issues with map balance, but over time this seems to be improving. Starfighter Assault is fantastic, the flying mechanics have been changed by quite a lot when compared to the previous installations of this franchise. In Battlefront (2015) I really disliked the flying, but in this game I think it’s really good and really enjoyable. Heroes vs Villains is really fun, getting used to the heroes may take some time, but when you’re used to them this game mode is a blast. The last two are strike and blast, which are quite the standard game modus and they work just fine.

The progression system in this game isn’t that good, but people are starting to figure out how to work with it. However I do fear that if microtransactions return that the game will be less fun. In general I enjoy playing this game with some friends, however I don’t advise people to pay full price for this game. I’ve bought it with a discount for €30, which is in my opinion a fair price for a new copy of this game.

After the trash/garbage Disney Star Wars movies that cringe new future has ruined the cool past. Abrams/Johnson were like two dumb mean kids breaking Georges cool toys in his sand pit while soiling themselves.

This is from one who brought Star Wars Battlefront 2 classic on four platforms as in PC, Xbox, PS, PSP. Four generations of Normies in my family walked away from all Star Wars merch. Not even the EA loot box fiasco screwed up Star Wars IP as bad as the Disney movie screw ups.

If they didnt add the Pay2Win in this game was just right awesome, but they want to milk the gamers money. Its a shame and i think EA needs to rethink, if they make games for gamers or that they make games just to earn a lot of cash.

Lets hope EA will turn this around in their future games.

Let's get this out of the way first, I don't care about what the prices were for the heroes, they don't make a huge impact for gameplay as a whole. The whole PR monetization business is covering up some concerning issues with the game's visual and gameplay aspects.

Overall this game feels like it lacks the epic trilogy that's portrayed in the movie and gives a short quick dirty match between players, the constant server stutters stops it from being enjoyable at times, and even when the match is finished it does not feel like it was an accomplishment as your in-game currency is not reflected by your victory/success. It doesn't capture the epic battle sense as the original series did when it came to vehicle/objective gameplay.

Most games back in those days were into couch-coop which is why most early iterations of any game series suddenly grew in popularity because it allowed friends to come over an enjoy the experience with you and if they really wanted their own copy to enjoy on their own time, they would buy it and still have the online option to play with you or others...

    (Balance/Design problems)
    -Maps are linear.
-There's no ping a latency in the scoreboard.
-Player count 24 less than what is possible with most games by EA.
-Beginner weapons for both specialist and officer is unbearably weak.
-The interact area for sabotage missions is somewhat small and misleading. (You think with an AA gun the size of 1.5m diameter you could just plant the charge anywhere BUT you have to place it in one cardinal direction.)
-Overtime doesn't acknowledge someone planting with overwhelming odds on point.
-Matches are ridiculously short due to low ticket count for certain instances on the Galactic assault.
-Vehicles feel out of place due to map design.
-Some moments which should feel epic are not played up by the music or are short-lived. (i.e. when opposing hero's clash, normal players coming into view/clash with hero or when the music picks up beat too late towards the end of a match, low ticket count or not playing at all when final objective is in reach.)
-Lack of private dedicated servers. (Unfortunately I've seen good old games with a dedicated community go dark overnight because publisher only servers, the single player itself is not good enough to stand on it's own.)
-No split-screen and no two player arcade for PC.

    (What's good about it?)
    +It's Star Wars.
+Point system allows players to play the game/objective rather than camp hero power-ups.
+Flying bodies is always fun to watch.
+More maps to fight on than previous iteration (not counting the original series).
+Everyone is capable of doing an objective (unlike the first iteration which locked what weapons you were using, so if you didn't have a essential weapon for an objective you were out-of-luck for that entire match.)
    +Streamline character classes
    +Visually pleasing

    (Bugs/Needed improvements)
-Star-fighter: dying near objects without touching them. (This is a conflict between server/client)
-Because maps are slightly too linear some fights seem stagnant when a battle happens in 1 to 2 choke-points.
-Load times are ridiculous, especially for arcade mode, chances are the player is going to want to play the same map and go up a tier so why force players to unload the map to the main menu and reload it after selecting a tier?
-Difficulty (In single player, fighting infantry feels lack luster as they make no attempt to surround or goat you out of position. During starfighter battles the AI basically turns on a dime and can not lose sight of you once they decide your their target. On escort/defend missions the AI really makes no attempt to attack the target your trying to defend and even if they did the large amount of health your VIP high is ridiculously high.)
-The most well known smuggler in the galaxy and Shriv calls him Ham.
-Certain lines of dialog need to have their phonetic spellings replace. (i.e. Artoo, I get some of voice actors don't even know what Star Wars is but a quick QA through single-player wouldn't HURT)
-Can't pair up with friends in matches.
-Some essential communication is missing from squads.
-Animals or civilians run around in T-pose if they are far enough from player.
-Cut back a little on the lens flair as some of them are way out of proportion with some of the building lights and forestry.
-Match making does a poor job as one team may have mostly 20+ leveled infantry while everyone else is below that line.
-Matches contain large gaps between two teams (i.e. 12-14 people are playing against 20).
-Double grenades (obviously a one is client and the other is server...)
-Tracer darts fire in weird directions vs their predicted trajectory. (For example directly left or right of screen rather than at the cross-hair.)

Really enjoyed the campaign mode, need more games like this with game play and mechanics focused on SP mode. As for multiplayer, after a week I got quickly bored, the unlocking content is confusing , overcomplicated and there is zero effort to promote teamwork, everyone runs like headless chickens.

Let's be honest, take Star Wars out of the title, you got an average game. Take the graphics out, you got a bad game. A franchise name and graphics are all that saves it. No support. Long delays in updates. No concrete communication. No "live service" as promised. Gameplay is a C+ to B-. But the balancing is always off,

Most disappointing is the lack of fun and interesting modes, and even less for 2 player off-line play. There is no Hoth assault with the ATwalkers, Endor with Ewoks. There is no way to pick which era you play in. Nothing that makes it feel like Star Wars. This was a cash grab plain and simple. Especially disappointing compared to the original Battlefront 2, which was bleeding with personality and charm. Expand

The multiplayer can be enjoyable at times, but suffers from an extremely slow progression system. The cards that upgrade your characters can give veteran players an unfair advantage and unlocking new weapons takes an insane amount of time. What results in this is frustrating multiplayer matches where you feel like you aren't contributing to the team and are simply grinding for more XP.

The Starfighter Assault mode is the best mode in the game and does not suffer the same issues as the standard multiplayer matches.

Overall, the core gameplay just isn't very fun and feels clunky. While I commend the developers for fixing the loot box issues, the game unfortunately just isn't all that great.

The problem is the gambling, the feeling that EA did never cared about making a good sequel, only caring about how to robe the players with micro-transactions in a 70€ game. This is shameful, completely embarrassing, and this should be remembered for the future, because the difference between videogame companies that try to steal us and the ones that don`t is the quantity of money we spend in both groups.

Star Wars Battlefront II provides a greater ambition than the previous installment. It has powerful war scenes, a brand new single player mode, and shows a much more magnificent Star Wars Universe. But just like the Jedi should be ware of the dark side of the Force, this game also meets some similar situations, such as beleaguered microtransaction elements and character growth problems. The first 10 hours of this game is full of surprises; however, the further you play this game, the more disappointed you will get.
