To boldy go, where no "always online DRM server" has gone before!

Probably the greatest and most immersive Star Trek I've ever played, I want to give this game a solid 8, but I can't. The game is sadly plagued with some seriously bad design flaws, which makes gameplay at times very frustrating, for no good reason... There was absolutely no reason to DRM this game, absolutely

Probably the greatest and most immersive Star Trek I've ever played, I want to give this game a solid 8, but I can't. The game is sadly plagued with some seriously bad design flaws, which makes gameplay at times very frustrating, for no good reason...

There was absolutely no reason to DRM this game, absolutely unforgivable. Once my child is old enough to be able to use Playstation VR safely over the age of 12, Ubisoft will have closed its servers and we will all be left with a brick of a game.

    - Always online DRM means that people like me with the third world of Internet connections can not enjoy this game on single player without frequent game progress being entirely destroyed, at random.
    - No save or pause ability when playing offline, meaning that in general you'll need to be emptying your bowels and bladder before starting, as you have to finish a mission in one sitting. Just pray to god that either the Ubisoft server, Playstation Network or your Internet connection don't go down while you're playing.
    - On multiplayer, if one person drops out your game, say goodbye to all your progress.
    - No mix of AI and human opponents, all AI or all humans, the game is practically dead online so searching for random games to join is practically impossible since you have to wait for 4 people and while waiting, people inevitably drop out
    - During the game, if you didn't hear an instruction or misread before the command vanishes into the void, it can be sometimes very easy to get stuck and have difficulty figuring out what you are supposed to be doing and where to go next.
    - 1960s Star Trek although realistic to the show, the controls and layout are very confusing unless you use the help popups, literally a wall of buttons and no good visual feedback or maps to know what is going on.
    - The Kobayashi mission, rescuing 120 people is literally impossible offline, non only that most people you find online only want to play this mission to boost the trophy, meaning that if you want to play for fun, people usually just want to boost this Kobayash mission and not play for fun.
    - Non VR view mode, most of the text is too small and hard to read, seems clearly just a bolt on feature added to boost sales due to the lack of sales when it was VR only
    - Main missions are fun the first time you do them, but so linear that you probably never want to play them ever more than once. The random mission mode at least band aids over the problem somewhat, although you'll grow tired of the same voice samples.

I really loved this game at first but now, so much of it frustrates me and always playing in fear, haste even, because I never know when I'm going to get kicked back to the main menu due to the god awful DRM always online requirement.

This game is bad by design, and by design ruined by DRM, these design flaws are not by mistake, it's literally created on purpose. I hope a patch can fix some of these issues.

It's ironic that a futuristic game will in actual fact be completely unplayable in the future.

I wouldn't recommend this game in it's current state, not unless you have an amazing stable Internet connection, 3 reliable friends to play with and are fine with the fact that one day you'll wake up. Unable to play this game ever again because Ubisoft will have shut down the servers when the game is no longer making them any money.

if this game had no DRM and the ability to play online with 2 or 3 players, and AI would continue to operate for players who dropped out, and the ability to join a game in progress. I'd give this a solid 8 or 9. Otherwise I'm sorry to say, I give this game a lowly 2. A great game, ruined by terrible business practices and bad multi player design.

So, where are there directions on controlling the ORIGINAL Enterprise? I see nothing and can find nothing that tells how to use the controls and so on.

A limited game, but an unforgettable VR experience. [Aug 2017, p.88]

Star Trek fans should not miss this experience, but but the lack of scope and the problems left a bland taste in our mouths.

If you can, get four friends, four headsets, and enjoy this the way it's meant to be played. [Aug 2017, p.83]
