Spelunky is a tough as nails, unforgiving and full of discovery, an unrivaled roguelike platformer that defined its sub-genre. Controls smoothly, looks pretty, wacky sense of humor just like a silly homage to Indiana Jones. It's definitely not one of those games you keep playing for hours on end but it's certainly a one that makes you come back.

Spelunky is the most brutal a game can be on a player. It is incredible how such a cute looking game can be the most difficult game on the PSN Store. If you want a hell of a Platformer challenge then pick up Spelunky, maybe when it's on sale.

Spelunky has different modes of play that are playing adventure, daily challenge and mortal combat.

The game, mainly consists of controlling a speleologist who has to go exploring caverns, collecting treasures, saving damsels in distress and avoid enemies and traps to be able to leave the cave where it is.

As a personal opinion, the game is very entertaining and viciate a lot, especially when in the first and second scenario you die and you want self-overcoming or reach more difficult stage.

Un juego divertido, música excelente, niveles que siempre son diferentes y una dificultad apropiada que no trata a los jugadores como si tuvieran parálisis cerebral

But the game still has a lot to offer, with very good ideas, and I'll keep an eye out for the next games from this studio as it only miss a few things to have a great game.

Well it does, sadly however, at least for the PS4, seems to fail at really pulling it off. Though it is clear that work was put in to this game and several things are done right, the game just doesn't live up to the idea, in fact it shames it with frustratingly bad controls, especially when ladders are involved, frustrating enemies, that seem to be designed to abuse the blatant flaws of the combat system, such as not being able hit upwards without being hit yourself, frustrating ticking clock mechanic that sends in a ghost, seemingly whenever you start to have fun, that will instantly kill you, cannot be killed, goes through walls and takes up a ridiculous amount of space, frustrating speed, that is either far too fast, or much too slow, frustrating arrow traps that deal heavy damage, are practically unavoidable and are very easy not to see, frustrating instant death spikes and frustrating fall damage combined with frustrating camera that zooms in just enough that you can almost never tell whether or not the next drop will be to your death.
As you can tell, the keyword here is frustrating, for that is all the game is, it seems for everything it gets right, it gets several things wrong and is sure to constantly throw those "wrong" things at you. Also it is important to not that there is a difference between annoying and hard, a hard game will throw something difficult at you but it will also give you all the tools to defeat it, even if it doesn't explain them, an annoying game however will deliberately cock something up and repeatedly rub that cock up in your face while at the same time dangling a carrot in front of you.
All in all, this game is very disappointing for me, maybe the co-op and multi player makes up for it but the single player honestly frustrated me that much that I don't even want to try it, maybe it's unfair to not try it out but a game only gets so much leeway before I tell it to piss off. This game has spent it's leeway with me. I wouldn't recommend it.

Spelunky is a brilliant combination of tough platforming and roguelike elements. With randomly generated levels, loads of obstacles, enemies, and loot, which would provide near infinite replay value. Along with friends, it's damn enjoyable.

Spelunky is a good game but sometimes a bit too hard, but that is funny. I never saw any bugs yet. It isn´t a game to play hour for hour anyway you can play long. The biggest problem is that its too expensive.

You have to go into this one knowing that the game is INCREDIBLY HARD and may very well take literal years to master. However, once you do, it's one of the most incredibly satisfying games ever made, and in many ways, an apt metaphor for life.

If you're not used to the genre then Spelunky will probably take some getting used to like it did for me but if you give it a little time it truly grows on you. Once you get far, start to run low on health and haven't found the next exit I think is when you will really appreciate what the game is all about.
    Pros:
    -Challenging
    -Multiplayer
-Surprising level of depth and strategy
-Great for Share features on PS4
-Free if you get it with PS+ (Cross buy too)
    Cons:
-Collecting the money and jewels is great but has little sense of reward

Fun, challenging, and classic style game. If you get frustrated easily and are the type of person who has little to no patience when playing games then this isn't for you. For those who enjoy taking their time and thinking about the next move then Spelunky is perfect.

A fun game that is ultimately an exercise in repetition and frustration. While it is never too late to review a game, it is definitely to late for a review to have an impact on the game. Spelunking 2 is coming soon and I’m sure we will all forget about Spelunky soon enough.

A fun game that is ultimately an exercise in repetition and frustration. While it is never too late to review a game, it is definitely to late for a review to have an impact on the game. Spelunking 2 is coming soon and I’m sure we will all forget about Spelunky soon enough.

Spelunky is a procedurally generated platforming game. This is a mixed bag. You cannot learn a level and memorize paths. However, each play through is unique and sometimes a level design will have interesting results. After a few hours, the levels seem less unique, and I have little interest in playing the first 4 levels in the mine ever again. There are no secret warp pipes to take you to later levels or save states to replay levels. This is a deliberate design choice to favor a singular type of play that may not be fun for all players.

The mechanics of the game are also hit and miss, literally. The original game may have worked fine on a PC with a wired keyboard and low latency monitor. In a living room on a giant TV with a wireless controller, there is a little too much lag from hitting to the square button and enemies hit by attacks. Or maybe I’m just getting too old and too slow. Either way, the game could be more forgiving and that would make the game more fun.

I can stress enough the sense of futility. My kids were watching me play and thought it was pointless. I told them that this is how all games worked back in the 80s. I didn’t tell them about cheat codes, Game Genie, or how many quarters I would waste. Spelunky has a “this is the game, make of it what you will” feel to it that belies all of the secret areas and hidden end levels. I will likely never see the regular end level because my main goal as a “gamer” is to have as many unique experiences as possible, and I cannot justify spending so much time with one experience.

I will say that the deathmatch mode is incredibly fun and you should definitely break out this game when you have friends over.

Lastly and for full disclosure, Spelunky was a PS+ “free” game from a couple of years ago. I have no interest in “getting my money’s worth” out of it.

The randomly heated levels really kills it for me. It's too common for the level you've given to be near impossible to beat compared to the rest of them.

Much loved by critics, Spelunky is very much one for my "I don't see what the fuss is about" file. A pretty generic platform game with average graphics and horrible music. Steamworld Dig is much better in my opinion.
