Space Hulk: Deathwing accurately looks and feels like a Warhammer 40k licensed game. Unfortunately, for what it has in atmosphere and looks it just isn’t that great to play. Instead, the game is a slow and laborious slog mixed with laborious combat that rarely feels satisfying.

Space Hulk Deathwing Enhanced Edition doesn't feel enhanced. The gunplay and enemies are boring, the story isn't interesting and the crashes (on PlayStation 4) are very frustrating.

With a dearth of decent games based in the Warhammer 40k universe, Space Hulk: Deathwing seems at first glance to be heading in the right direction. With a reverence for the source material that’ll appeal to Warhammer 40K aficionados, it successfully evokes the space hulk setting and the relentless battles at its heart. While the basic building blocks of a decent experience seem to be here, the undeveloped gameplay, and repetitive structure – that degenerates into tiresome battles of attrition – mean that even transplanting it into the co-op multiplayer mode and adding more unlocks and rewards won’t be enough to keep your finger on the trigger for long.

Those wanting a great squad-based shooter or a truly essential Warhammer 40,000 game will have to keep searching. At a glance, Deathwing seems like a solid adaptation and it nails that distinctive Space Hulk look and atmosphere, but there’s just not enough variety or depth to keep players engaged beyond those first few encounters.

Perhaps, someday, the WH40K universe will offer experiences as compelling as its fantasy brethren. Until that time, players looking to scratch the WH40K itch would do better by dusting off a last-generation console or firing up Steam and buying Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine. It’s a pretty charming third-person action game that, while a little long in the tooth now, satisfies the urge to mow down bad guys by the thousands in a much less frustrating format.

They deserve these kind of scores of 6-7 for all those games not supported by a first classe enterprise, such EA, Ubisoft, Capcom, etc. This Space Hulk: Deathwing, running smoothly on PS4, is already a merit. But the game itself is fun enough. It has some bugs, but is very enjoyable, mainly online with friends. Honestly, I doubt that all these "professional" reviews are based on a complete experience after beating the game. If you love the action games, try this one. If you are a Warhammer 40k fan... purge the unclean. Full Review »

The gameplay features an accurate portrayal of Terminators against Tyranids, as seen and depicted within the WH40K books. In that respect, the game does, very much, what it says on the tin.

If the title played differently, then I don't think that I would like it as much. In fact, Gav Thorpe, one of the WH40K authors, whose titles include Space Hulk: The Novel, was an advisor on the game design.

It feels great to play and looks like one of the finest recreations of the Warhammer 40,000 universe I have ever seen. The Emperor Protects but a suit of Terminator Armour does a hell of a job too!
