Story - It is what you would expect from South Park turned to a game, it has all the over the top action and silliness that you can expect from the shows.

I think the main part you need to consider when choosing to purchase this game is do you like turn-based games and do you enjoy the humor of South Park?
If it's yes to both, absolutely, buy it!
Even If you aren't a big fan of turn-based games, but you like South Park you really should consider getting this game just for the story alone.

Once you have gone through the game once and seen all the jokes and made all the choices, you don't need to do it again as choosing a different path does not lead to a different outcome, I know because I played through it twice, and save scammed to see all the outcomes on my second play through. However, while it's gameplay mechanics are better, it's still a super simple, super easy jrpg, that's casual AF, and easily the worst part of this game is that it is not nearly as funny as the first game. If you are expecting to have the laugh out loud moments that you experienced in the stick of truth, you simply won't find any here. Regardless, it is still like playing an episode of south park and is something that a hardcore south park fan would likely enjoy, though I would recommend waiting for a price drop before buying. The pacing is off a little bit in the middle and, even though it didn't have the OMG WUT?! ending that Stick of Truth had, it still was a very wonderfully done episode of South Park extended into a 10 hour game. A few technical issues cropped up for me while playing, including an unextremely untimely game freeze during the ultra long final battle that prob cost me at least 20 mins or so. Sound glitches and character pop ins ran rampant throughout most of the game, but not enough to spoil anything outright. I'd say that some of the few side missions in the game were the real highlight of the entire playthrough, including the Flappy Bird rip off late in the game. However it all boils down to do you like South Park? If you do, this is the game for you. If not, this game will go out of it's way to make you hate it even more. That's what it really boils down too quite honestly. Expand

This game is a top notch entertainment package for the mature audience with a good sense of humor - especially made for South Park fans - and an all around solid good game with so many fun options. Built on Snowdrop (engine) with both casual and strategy players in mind, this (avg) 20 hr game has a greater replay value and consistency in design than the first installment.

Built on Snowdrop (engine) with both casual and strategy players in mind, this (avg) 20 hr game has a greater replay value and consistency in design than the first installment.

Audio (10/10): Immersive music, authentic voice, with hysterical sound effects. The much needed social commentary, situational variety and well rounded comedy are exemplified by an excellent audio kit, original voice actors, and professional game score that picks up and dips with on-screen action.

Graphics (10/10): Seamless animation, design and visual effects. South Park design, hand-drawn character animation, cleaner than ever lines and overall achieves exactly the goal of appearing like an episode of the show. Attention to detail adds to comedy and immersion, and exploring the different specials and actions will keep you busy for days.

Gameplay (10/10): Authentic. Light RPG, immaculate content depth, satisfying puzzles and locations. Enemy variety a huge plus, combat can be played as a short or long game (based on difficulty setting which can be changed at any time, even mid-combat). Accessibility of the open world is clean and charming, character customization and abilities are well made and endless, XP progress and Artifacts are evenly distributed, collectible items are never painfully hidden or require any backtracking, and the consistency of story all make for a seamless play-through for main and side quests.

Fight the construct of an elitist consumerism bent on a singular perspective, and buy this game!

    Saludos.

To say Fractured but Whole is an improvement to Stick of Truth is somewhat of a mixed statement. In many aspects of the game, FbW indeed improves over its predecessor, but in other aspects the game falls short of the expectations that SoT laid down as a foundation.

    Gameplay:
When it comes to combat, the game took away the basic turn based RPG element and replaced it with a tactical turn-based RPG system. This, for the most part is an improvement over SoT, as it now adds a more complex and defined strategic feel to the game. Characters always have been the focal point in both games, but when it came to combat, for the most part party members in SoT more or less blended together, as you could switch any of them out and still maintain any of the basic styles of play. Now, with an actual grid to play on, party members now have a more diverse moveset that allows them to not only interact with the player through dialogue, but also party synergy. That is not to say that they are completely diverse. An issue with the FbW is that many of the classes still feel the same. 2 specific characters (not named for spoilers) are the same type of hero, and so their moveset is more or less identical. These aren't the only party members who have this issue either. While this allows for you the player to play whoever you want in regards to show favorites, it does mean that the difference between one character and another is pretty limited.

    Story (no spoilers):
The story of FbW takes place a little while after SoT, and the neighborhood children decide to do away with the Tolkien-esque world and enter into the world of superheroes. As the new kid, you were not living in the neighborhood when the main characters of the show created Coon & Friends, so you must put away your crown as the ruler of the fantasy world and dawn the cape of a rookie sidekick in order to regain the power you once had. Dialogue-wise, the game offers just what you would expect from South Park, as cutscenes and narrative points bounce back and forth between hilarity and shock & awe. The only issue with the story really comes from the lack of originality in the sidequests. Most of the side quests that you happen upon in this game are glorified fetch quests, asking you to either find or place something around the town of South Park. This can and will get old very quickly, and offer little in the way of reward worth having.

    Shortcomings:
One of the major issues that FbW suffers from is the over reliance on what has been established in the past. While it does have alot of original comedy to hold you down, much of the easter eggs, fetch quests, main plot points, and even a sizable portion of jokes are call backs to the show. While this has worked for the first game, the issue is that as a second game, some of the jokes have already been told and are simply being told again. Combat is also very repetitive. While the first chunk of the game offers refreshing fights and interesting boss battles, there comes a point where everything that was going to be shown has been shown. I can't tell you how many times I have gone into combat thinking it to be a boss battle only for it to be a simple fight where the enemies simply re-spawn after defeating the first wave. In addition, once your character becomes overpowered, every fight becomes meaningless, as the loot dropped from the battles offer nothing new or exciting. This in essence, becomes the moment combat becomes a chore rather than a challenge. The enemies outside of bosses are repetitive as well, as every single one, from sixth graders to crab people have the same basic move set. There is no required change of strategy when fighting any enemy that is different from another.

    Conclusion:
South Park: The Fractured But Whole is not a perfect game. It does not deserve a 10, nor is it really a legitimate competitor for any Game of the Year awards. Much of its luster is simply a rehash of what made Stick of Truth such a fun experience, and while Fractured but Whole is undoubtedly a fun experience, it simply is not different enough, or have a level of depth needed to make it that much better than its predecessor.

At first I was slightly bothered by the fact that the town and houses were the same layout as that in Stick of Truth. Then I thought about it, and realised of course it will be. It's South Park Colorado! The game starts after a brilliant character set up, straight off where Stick of Truth finishes. A few early battles let's you learn the new mechanics, the characters feel more like a "darkest Dungeon" strategy, and throughout the game this new mechanic made using new characters worthwhile. Often on losing a fight I would change up my squad and find others skills would hugely benefit the battle at hand.
There are 10 playable companions, each with 3 moves and a special. For fans, the specials will often have you in tears at first, and never grow dull. For non fans, we'll I'm not sure why you'd buy a South Park game anyhow.
The story is as offensive and wacky as the first. Additional characters in later series like PC Principle, bring a lot to the table, whilst the charm is still with the boys world being half real and half make believe. Some bookers you meet are hugely offensive and anti PC, but the ongoing back story of the protagonist, told by Cartman was the best running joke. I won't spoil it, but it's ridiculous.
I used a guide to find the last 3 Yaoi pictures, other than that, I earnt a platinum all whilst playing. And it felt worth my time doing side quests to earn both. I admit in the Stick of Truth, I would avoid fighting the same battles, because I enjoyed the new mechanic so much, I actually fought every battle I could. The voice acting and script alone is a payoff always.
Any south park fan will love this game as I have. I wish it lasted longer, I wish it had an online pvp mode, but as it stands, it's a hilarious fun RPG that'll have you LOL a lot

Boosting your character's stats by using toilets was also surprisingly well-implemented & gratifying. however, it just isn't that much fun to play. despite a hearty upgrade system, combat is slow & repetitive. navigating the town is slightly awkward & also gets boring fast, even with the unlockable fast-travel system. i was almost immediately digging through settings to boost the dialogue & combat speed to no avail. the game charmed me more than expected, but I was not compelled to work through more than about 10 hours of it before losing all desire to ever play it again. i didn't notice any of the bugs others have noted, perhaps they have been fixed with recent updates. South Park: The Fractured But Whole (SP:TFBW) is a great game that doesn't rely just on its solid RPG gameplay mechanics but also its heritage from the eponymous TV series and its humor.

SP:TFBW is a grid-based strategy RPG where battles can be fought with a squad of up to 4 superheroes, each with unique abilities, and the ultimates are mostly spectacular. There are some boss battles though where the goal isn't just slowly beat every enemy to win the fight. Players wander through the city map accepting missions and performing some errands (side-quests), while meeting various South Park characters along the way. Your avatar can be customised in gender, color, ethnicity and religion. Costumes are purely cosmetic so you can dress freely, and stats are upgraded by equiping items. The game is quite easy even on the Mastermind (hard) difficulty. Tip to everyone, when you are far into the game just equip the Plantmancer-class abilities (especially the ultimate which lets you revive allies) and you are set for victory.

The game's story is inspired by the superhero movies mania of the last decade, and in parallel it parodies various political subjects or crafts situational jokes. The South Park kids, including the player as The New Kid, play superheroes in the streets and have split into 2 factions resembling Marvel vs DC but actually feel more like the XMen vs Brotherhood of Mutants rivalry. The trademark South Park humor is ever present, every joke is hilarious in and of itself, and many little touches make it the ultimate South Park experience. For example, if an enemy speaks in a politically incorrect manner during battle, PC Principal calls for the player to strike them in order to deal some free, extra damage. I know that some people may be offended by the politically incorrect jokes, toilet humor and the abundance of fart jokes, but it wouldn't be South Park otherwise.

On the technical side, the game is emulating the art-style and animations of the TV show perfectly. The soundtrack is inspired by certain motifs of Marvel movies' OSTs and is fitting for this game. Voice acting is fantastic throughout.

Of course the game isn't perfect. SP:TFBW is a bit buggy (early in the game I got stuck and had to reload, thankfully this happened to me just once). Also the map should have been better designed, nearly every home is the same layout internally.

All in all, South Park: The Fractured But Whole is a great game, and its trademark South Park humor makes it even better. I definitely want to see another South Park game, and I wonder whether Ubisoft can top this one.

The potty mouth 4th graders, Cartman, Kyle, Stan & Kenny are back. Matt Stone and Trey Parker bring us another adventure in the video game world rather than on the small screen. Does the new installment in this franchise hold up as well of the first one? Let us find out.

South Park the fracture but whole picks up right where the first one left off. You are still playing the middle age’s game for about five minutes, during this time it will give you a quick over view of the new combat system. At the end of those five minutes, you run in to Cartman, who has switched games to superheroes. Once the game switches over, you start at the bottom of the food chain when it comes to your popularity. You will then have the story of the game explained to you; you are looking for missing cats in
South Park in order for a reward so you can fund your super hero franchise. There is two sides of the super heroes, the coon and friends & the freedom pals who are in a civil war. In the story line, they are making fun of the marvel cinematic universe. As you progress through the story you find out there is more to it than just finding the cats for a reward there is a darker side to it than just what meets the eye.

The Game Play in South Park is just about the same as the first installment but a little bit more in depth, especially when it comes to the combat. This time you move along a certain amount of spaces along a grid to reach your target. Each move you do has a different range of attack, which adds a nice variety to the combat. Don’t worry about going in alone it never happens. On your side you can have up to three different sidekicks like The Coon, Captain Diabetes, The Human Kite, Mosquito and much more. Each of them offering their unique abilities to help you on your journey throughout South Park. A few of the new additions to the game play is crafting, you can build costumes, consumables and more. Throughout your adventure, you will pick up artifacts, which gives you more strength for your attacks it is highly recommended especially towards the end of the game when you need a might of 500 for some missions otherwise you will have a difficult time completing these missions. South Park is a mix of open world; turn base combat, RPG game. When you are travelling through the world you will run in to characters who will assign side missions to you this will help you get new artifacts and level up.

South Park the Fractured But whole is a proper and wonderful sequel, keeping the humor of the show, adding more to the combat and exploration. I loved by 18 hours of game play I completed the story was able to complete all the side missions except for two of them and get all the collectibles & I hope a third one comes out this is one title you don’t want to miss this year.

Stick of Truth was one of the best licensed games I have ever come across. It is pretty hard to top such a great game, as for the gameplay and the story campaign.

Good news is the developers have worked hard on the gameplay aspect of the game, and it really payed off. As someone who is not much into RPG games I was really into the combat system and game progression. I was pleasantly surprised to see new features in the combat system which I already enjoy from previous installment. Some of the added features in the game has other already mentioned, like environmental impact on the opponents. Another thing worth mentioning is the scripted parts in a lot of the battles which can be entertaining, it can have its own cons as well. Some fight are slightly changed making it feel like it's a "BOSS" fight, giving new refreshing experience.

Exploring with puzzle elements is a great welcome. Collectables are back and not just rehashed previous material, which keeps the game fresh. Game manages to show new stuff you haven't seen in the show, while being faithful to the source. So throughout the game will not feel other than like you're a part of South Park story.

However, the game is far from being perfect. Fortunately, there are no major problems with the game. Some of the scripted scenes, when you fight against enemies, which I mentioned previously, can be annoying. Some battles can be very hard and feel unbalanced, imagine playing same thing all over again and watching the same scene again and again... worst part is, that it's probably Kyle's cousin who's appearing... Another minor issue I have with the game is the interaction with the environment, sometimes the button for interacting with other won't appear and you will have to try again by going away from object and back. Another time I was baffled with QTE, the game cannot give clear instructions if you're supposed to press or hold buttons.

Part which I really did not enjoy is the farting (no pun intended). When a lot of abilities of the character are depending on farting, the joke gets old really fast, and unfortunately it overstays its "welcome".

As for the story, it all subjective. A lot of people will probably complain how the game has more references to the newer stuff, and if you haven’t watched last season’s it's understandable if you don't understand jokes or find it funny. In my opinion Stick of Truth had a better presentation and the story, but still it doesn't mean I did not enjoy this game experience. This story was great addition to the SP universe and I will consider checking the later DLCs for the game.

So, in conclusion, it's a great game. If you enjoyed Stick of Truth and want come back to South Park for new adventures with slight updates of gameplay this game has you covered. However, if you're expecting "bigger and longer" game and story, I would suggest passing this one.

This is a great game and an good sequel to the stick of truth but it is not as great as its predecessor
This is because the puzzels are easy, boring and somehow it becomes faster repetitive then the stick of truth
But overall its still a great game with south park graphics , hilarious humor and a more fleshed out and more deeper combat that keeps you engaged until the end

Is the first game better? Yes, but not by a large margin. FBW continues to be funny and creative. I admit the first one had a somewhat stronger storyline, jokes, and stuff to do. Again, they manage to recreate the world of South Park and make you think you're actually in the show. Again, they play around with what you can do in an RPG, by having your battle in the streets stopped by a car coming by or the movie ticket guy commenting on your battle if you fight in front of him. The story is a bizarre wild ride that is definitely unique.

I liked the new battle system. I found the ability to move around kept things varied. Also, liked that your character could swap and switch several power moves. I do kind of wish that the other characters could have had more moves than the ones they came with. It gets a little dull with them having only one specific skill set.

Unfortunately, this is the buggiest game I've played on the PS4. There were dialogue loops, frame drops, and one time I had to reset because a boss fight froze. (Luckily this game does instasave.) Given that the last game had bugs, you'd think they'd try harder to prevent them.

Still, I recommend this game to anyone not too offended by the show's humor.

It's South Park. If you like the show then you'll likely love this. If not, then it won't be for you. Like The Stick of Truth, I'd say all the "side quests" are pretty much mandatory (minus the yaoi and memberberry collection ones) to get the most out of the game.

I have had ZERO issues running it on uPlay, it's not full of bugs, it's not bloated with anything. It runs smoothly, it's hilarious, the new combat system is a big plus. I have dumped several hours into it and i'm not even half way through.

The only cons for me would be the price and the day one DLC. I think that should have been included for such a steep price tag that isn't really justified. This game is just like Stick of Truth, there isn't anything ground break or brand new about this that it is worth almost $100. To be fair I purchased my copy from Green Man Gaming for $50. Well worth that price tag.

This is a fun game, great sequel to the first and is just like being in a super long episode of SP. There are tons of throw backs for die hard SP fans and just an all around engaging game. I do not feel this game is better than the first, but with that said the first game was my GOTY in a weak 2014. I do like that they did the super heroes rather than continuing the mythical from the first game. The game has a lot more to do and a lot more places to explore and it was fun to get every item and look behind every nook and cranny. I hope they continue this franchise. Being mythical first, super heroes second. I believe they can easily transfer into the Ninja stage like one of the episodes, and I believe they will since I think they teased it with some of the enemies. It was hard to follow, and I just thought the SOT appeared to be a home run and the FBW seemed more like a ground rule double. I'm looking forward to playing them both. Everything you enjoyed about the first game is back here. For a person that owns a ps4 pro and really nice LG 4k screen, it really feels like i'm walking around the town and interacting with everyone. As far as I know there isn't any uprezing or HDR support, but still the palette is so clean and framerate is so crisp, I'd be dammed if there wasn't something going on behind the scenes.

The voice acting is perfect, just like the first game, but I found the humor a bit more "neanderthal" here than in both the prior game and the show as well. Matt Stone and Trey Parker are thoughtful with their humor. They just know when and where to twist the knife. In the stick of truth they did this, not so much in TFBW. There were just a few too many "on the head" jokes that made me wonder how hard they worked on this title vs the 1st.

Combat like the first game is serviceable but is used more a plot device than a tangible need to continue the game. You "battle" some random fights here and there, but really the actual ones deal with marquee characters from the series and usually end beyond the player's control due to being scripted to end that way (Kyle's cousin for example). If i'm supposed to feel like a "superhero" then let me power up or something.

Leveling is kind of a slog. It's not bad, but it's not great. Collecting is the main focus but at the same time also includes a ton of tedious backtracking or remembering certain things so when you finally get the item you needed from the 1st time you were there pops up, you can go back and grab it. Unfortunately, this leads to a lot of let down as generic crafting items are the only thing that was awaiting you this whole time. The toilet pooping makes a return, but really, kind of a waste of time.

It's worth your money, if you enjoy the show or loved the 1st game, just don't expect too much beyond being a good follow up. It doesn't rock the craddle much.

If you are expecting a hit, hold on to your money. The gameplay as a whole fails to immerse the user with compelling choices or any sense of meaningful progression. Instead it is filled with absolute clutter and horrifying design decisions that make the world feel barren and monotonous. When comparing this game to the absolute monsters of 2017, there's no way one can justify its price. The Fractured But Whole is woefully dismaying to anybody that expected the sequel to live up to the first.

In The Stick of Truth, there are only four character classes, However, as you progress, you must make choices between learning and upgrading different skills, acquiring perks, and ultimately making the character your own. Each of the equipment pieces you obtain would have not just statistics, but a set of perks unique to them. This is wildly different in The Fractured But Whole, which eventually allows the player to simply mix and match whatever power from whatever archetype they want. The game gives no incentive for you to immerse yourself in a role, and instead gives the player absolute free license to do whatever they want. You don't feel like a kid playing a super hero, you just feel like a toolbox that is able to pick whatever power and configuration they think is convenient.

The player is pretty much thrown face first into an open-world setting, pretty much allowing the player to go wherever they want and explore South Park to their heart's content while barring a few passages behind Zelda-esque "puzzle" walls. The problem with this open-world setting compared to a game like say Breath of The Wild or Skyrim, is that the world is small. No matter how you spin it, South Park is a small dinky town, and that is immediately felt as the player tries to push the boundaries and take a dump in every one of their neighbor's toilets. But what did the Stick of Truth do to make the setting of South Park so great? It gave you a more linear path through the various different settings of South Park with plenty of contextual meaning. You journeyed through the sewers to rescue a family of turds and into 8-bit Canada and fought off giant rats behind doors only gnomes may enter through. In contrast, what was the point in letting the player in TFBW enter Tom's Rhinoplasty? Just to buy some wrinkles and open some gold drawers and maybe laugh at a few pictures of David Hasselhoff?

Finally you have the clutter. Clutter is a poor attempt at flavor, things that make the setting feel alive and interesting. Examples of clutter include the toilet minigames, the numerous Zelda-esque puzzles, Big Gay Al's cats,, and forcing the player to watch the increasingly tiresome animation of hamsters being shoved up butts whenever an exposed live wire demands it. There's about five component items that actually are unique and serve a purpose. The rest of the components are literally just names of the items and a category they fit into. There's no Terrence or Philip doll, there's no nazi armbands, or GSM Buttons. The majority of items you pick up in this game are simply names, until it goes in your pocket when it then ceases to have a name and becomes simply scrap.

Of course the game has a lot of good points. The visual presentation is excellent and true to the show. The humor is also authentic but definitely toned down in certain departments. There's no shortage of potty humor and sex jokes, but in terms of bigotry and political jokes which I also believe are mainstays of the South Park franchise, there are relatively fewer than in The Stick of Truth. I also enjoyed the combat a bit, but was definitely disappointed that while it did offer more strategic depth, most of the battles were not challenging. It just all became too simple at a point too soon. It makes you wonder why they felt the need to add more strategic depth at all.

Well, after SoT you may expect at least the same game, but it worse in every aspect. Good jokes are extremely rare, battle system is much easier, side quests are super boring. Do not waste your money and just replay the first game.

Everything you do to advance the plot seems more tedious than in SOT. The new puzzle solving system is unnecessarily long and quickly annoying. The new grid based combat system is okay and is used a couple of times in interesting ways but for the most part tends to just be slower than in a JRPG style.

I think the worst part is the world seems emptier than in SOT. As in, less content than SOT despite repeated production delays. I kept waiting for new areas to open up like with 8 bit Canada or the sewers in SOT but it just doesn't happen (but BTW day one DLC is available for purchase!).

In conclusion, a slight disappointment. If you're a huge fan than you've probably already bought it. If your not, wait till this thing is $10 in 2 years if you play at all. Maybe someone will piece together the cut scenes into an episode like video. Then just watch that instead. The gameplay here is just not worth $60.

Some changes have been made to the combat system when compared to Stick of Truth, which you'll either love or hate. The rest of the game is what you'd expect from South Park. While that's not a bad thing and fans of the series will get their money's worth here, it would have been nice to see some more variety that what we have come to expect.

The game developers promised so much and they delivered on all accounts. While this game was entertaining I did not feel as engaged as much as i did in the first game.

The game has many strengths such as the combat. The number one thing I believe the developers focused on was the combat system. Fighting through waves of enemy's felt great and rewarding as you gained experience. In the beginning of my first play through I would find myself screwing myself over due to my poor choices in character placement; but as you progress through the game you learn through punishment which can demolish your team if act naive.

The main issue I had with this game was that the game itself was too short. I felt as if there was a huge opportunity missed as i watched the end credits go by. The game was enjoyable and witty but being fun and amusing isn't all i was expecting from this game.

In short, this was worth full price and i would recommend it to a friend.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Is it much like a South Park season wrapped up into a game? Yes.

Is it the South Park that we used to know and love? No, not at all. Gone are the DGAF Days of Matt & Trey and now the show and this game have embraced the newer writers fully. PC Principal not long ago would have been funny for being PC, but now it is an attack on White Frat Boys and little more. The PC aspects are actually thoroughly embraced throughout the game. The more SJW your actions (Which let's be frank, you really don't get any choices in this "RPG"), the better the outcome.

Let's speak a little about this being called an RPG. The first one didn't really deserve the title either, so that isn't new, but it seems to be worse this time around. The game has as much depth as a 20 page Choose Your Own Adventure book, yet maintains a $60 price tag reminiscent of much deeper AAA titles like Dragon Age 3, Fallout (any of them), etc.

The jokes just aren't really funny this time around, and that is where The Stick of Truth has it beaten in spades: that game was hilarious. This one is a 8 hour fart joke with endless fan service. I'll admit the Mitch Conner portions had me laughing, and Classi wasn't bad either, but that's about it. The satire that South Park was famous for is mostly gone for heavy handed BLM and SJW Themes like "All police are so racist they are feeding blacks to demons".

The technical issues are fairly well known by anyone looking into getting this: black screens for 4k players, crashes for a few, and complete character hang ups that require you to restart the game to move forward. They aren't really that bad for a major release, to be fair.

Overall, I give the game a 5/10. It just wasn't very funny, and when you pair that with the utter lack of depth and the $60 price tag, the game just doesn't deserve accolades or recommendations.

A Step in the wrong direction
The Fractures but whole takes place the day after the stick of truth ends,
This time you play once again as the new kid as the children of south park split into a civil war over who’s super hero franchise will make the most money..
The game starts with letting you choose 1 of 3 classes, though your class isn’t as important as it may seem in the beginning as the story progresses you’ll be able to add more classes and pick and choose your 4 moves to bring into battle…
The game takes place once again ins south park, this time around south park to me felt less alive, and much more of a video game hub world.. As it along with the story missions themselves are less varied…
since your character stats are attached to artifacts this time that you plug into your DNA strand... exploration felt less necessary if I wasn’t interested in new cosmetics that added nothing to the battle system…
Artifacts are obtained from fights and leveling up, and can be crafted from recipes you buy or find in chests…
Crafting is where exploration comes into play the most as you have to craft consumable items to use in battle, but again I didn’t need consumables too often so this didn’t entice me to explore.. I had plenty by just opening the occasional chest id notice while playing through this 17 hr. story…
improved over the stick of truth in my opinion are the jokes as they’re much more current and less inside jokey like the stick of truth…
if you have a twitter you’ll be in on all of this games jokes..
speaking of social media, doing tasks and leveling up will let you take selfies with characters to gain coonstagram followers, this will also help level you up as will fighting and collecting to open more slots for artifacts…
I also like level progression more this time as you’re not switching through different modes.. You’re just scanning an item and calling in the right character you help you progress…
Different this time is while the game is still turn based...
instead of feeling like Pokémon, there is a grind based combat system that I’m not a fan of
I like that in the grids there are red zones warning you something is about to happen and you have to try your hardest to move your party out of that zone..
But when it comes to playing with the grid, things just get overly complicated with the different rules of each characters different move and sometimes larger characters are had to tell which grid they’re on
every character in south park feels unique. All with their own attacks with different status attacks, but the direct and space they can attack just get confusing which had me canceling, moving and checking, until I positioned them in a spot I could attack my enemy…
Most of the characters are pretty straight forward, but a few are definitely awkward to deal with…
Farts are also a part of combat this time as you can use them to skip an opponent’s turn or pause time for some free damage…
There’s also a meter that fills up as you take damage.. Filled fasted if you can recover some health by pressing x when you’re attacked... and this allows you to pull off a super move that can do massive damage to one character or light damage to all characters but with status effects for example…
but I felt matches were a little too unpredictable in story as new characters would come into the fight frequently.. Never really letting you know how close to the end you are... so id hold onto these moves a lot of the time never getting to use them…
The best part of this game is easily in its character… the story is ridiculous and the writing is great…
the grid based combat is good.. but it’s not great like the turned based combat in the stick of truth…
the game does sequel bait, and if the game stays turn based, I have in the next one they go back to the style in the stick of truth… both in combat and variety in the delivery of the story…
I give South Park The Fractured But Whole
    a 7.5/10

The game became more bland. No humor and funny situations like in the first game. You pass the continuation on autopilot. well, that battle system is still good and does not let go of the screen. The joke is, some are funny, but funny situations just yet. No dwarves. no aliens, but there are many jokes about farting. The game makes fun of the superhero franchise and does it well. But funny situations not enough.

Gameplay is turn-based. And it's not bad! You'll get used to it. Pataias more tactics and diversity to battles. For example, you can push the enemy to the object and it will receive additional damage, and can not do. The battle was much harder. Sometimes the battle to be unnecessarily hard.

The interface has changed, it became less clear. Also removed are the characteristics of the clothing. Now clothing is just appearance, which has no effect. as we no longer have orueta. At all. but pumping is. In the world you find artifacts or create their own. from artifacts depends on your level. The developers have replaced one on another. This is a controversial decision, but I accepted it.

We also have the ability of your cool, which vary greatly. But fear not, we will be able to choose one class, and in the end we will reveal in General all classes. It is not clear why.

THE FRACTURED BUT WHOLE ambiguous sequel. Much simplified, the story is not as funny, but there is a deeper battle system and a good irony. Yet I keep feeling that there's a lot I haven't told you. The first game was more varied storyline and more funny.

This game is a big mixed bag for me, and for good reasons: I initially bought this game that also came along with a code for TSOT and I LOVED that game, despite its flaws and being utterly short. Still, It was a game I could easily recommend and even if the gameplay was meh, the story and the humor behind it was what kept me playing until the end. Twice.

    But TFBW is...different.

The game is drastically improved and I cannot lie: the combat got a massive overhaul, from a paper Mario-esque kind of combat to a more tactical version and from 2 characters you can have now 4 on the field - even though in the first game you could swap your companion with anyone. The combat is very fun, despite being slow, and I had a really good time playing it on high difficulty: it makes combat more challenging but not impossible.

The new guy is also changed: while in the first game you could choose 4 classes, and stick with said class to the end, in TFBW you will be able to change class and use specific skills and ultimates for having a very variable kit, without mentioning the extremely well done customization with artifacts and DNA, which drastically changes your stat distribution...even though your character does feel a bit weaker than everyone else, even with a potency of 810. I just made him the healer, with one of the best AoE heals and the medium ultimate which heals and grants shield: almost made every battle a breeze.

South Park itself is much different, but not too much: many areas are revamped and different - I suppose many are also referenced in the series but since I'm a dirty European we don't really know. Yeah, we suck. Anyway, I will give them at the very least the benefit of not censoring the game anymore, probably thanks to the 18 rating our version got so we could enjoy the game without any issues.

Either way, South Park was slightly revamped, redesigned with more paths to take and overall the area feels new but familiar which is a good thing.

And the story...well it's good, it's south park, but this is where I'm going to stop because I want to say this: while TBFW is a much better game in terms of GAMEPLAY I felt that TSOT is a much better game in terms of STORY.

TBFW's plot is a mess and very unfocused and honestly not really fun, at least not as fun as TSOT which could keep me glued to the screen for hours until the end, and I really had a hard time to follow it at times: it starts with you needing to find a cat, although you end up going after Chaos, then suddenly you have a conspiracy behind and...honestly I'm not even sure about the plot is so unfocused. The characters "characters" are really fun and somewhat inventive but it's less about satirizing and more about making fun of in TSOT the fantasy setting was a parody of EVERYTHING fantasy, from games to dungeons and dragons, and even me who doesn't play DnD I still get tons of the references and the feeling of being a fantasy satire. But TFBW doesn't feel anything like this: it's just parody for the sake of parody with the only major satiric point being "making several movies for promoting the franchise". It just feels...unfocused, that's all I can say!

The gameplay got better too and the fact your character can customize your skills at will makes the entire "start with a new class" not required since you'll have every class unlocked near the end of the game and you also got more characters to use in battle.
Still, the first game used the vs2 combat much better by allowing you to swap characters when needed, having perks, upgrading skills and more. Yeah, you can't upgrade skills anymore and you have no perks anymore - there are but it's tied to artifacts - which feels like a big contrast with RPGs. Where, you know, there's a lot of customization! Not that there aren't any it's just less customization.
Armor is also for cosmetic purposes only, whereas in the first game armor was an essential part of the game...I get it the idea, you can make your personal superhero costume, but still, I feel there could be some sort of glamour option to fix the issue.

And the game length, while being longer (I finished in 25 hours vs 13 in TSOT) I would need to pause once in a while because I would get bored. Exploration is still important but now you have only 6 abilities to use (fart, firecrackers, and 4 hero related powers) and I don't really feel as rewarded to backtrack on previous areas, especially when only thing you can get is crafting mats. Oh I forgot there is also crafting...and it's okay.

Overall, I do want to recommend this game because it's objectively a better GAME than TSOT, but as a SOUTH PARK GAME it's much worse. I recommend trying TSOT first - especially if cheaper - and then this, because that game was addictive and I could easily stay an entire day playing and laughing at the humor.

This game just feels tiresome after a while.

South Park FBW is catered to its audience, I get it. I am not a super fan, but I can enjoy its humor for sure. But the game is not as good as The Stick of Truth (which I played until the end and enjoyed every second). The first SW RPG was a pretty decent RPG and this new one is not bad, it's just kind of boring.

And when I realized I was not having that much fun with it I just gave up. Might as well play Stick of Truth, which they give as a bonus download anyway - so there is that.

South Park FBW is by far not a bad game. It's just not great either. You'll laugh a bit at its crass humor and its charming characters, but don't expect much more.

Longer version: The prequel “The Stick of Truth” impressed me and so I bought the sequel naturally. I expected the same respectless, dark and satirical South Park style humour and a solid to good RPG experience. To be fair it is not a bad game but more shallow than the prequel and overall less immersive even when it has its moments and some good ideas. Also the humour works less well. Story: It continues a day after the events of “The Stick of Truth”. Sidenote: You mostly don't need to know the story of the prequel to enjoy this but it helps especially at the end of the game. This time the kids play superheroes (and supervillains). Their goal is finding a missing cat and use the reward to start their own superhero media /movie universe. Of cause this is just the beginning of many crazy events and twist that I will avoid because of spoilers. The story is entertaining but weaker than “The Stick of Truth”. Sometimes it feels forced or stretched. Also the villain is pretty weak or even a mayor disappointment and never won me over. In total I say they used weaker ideas (or less creativity / time) and it is less enjoyable because of it. Gameplay: The game focused on the superhero genre. You are again the new kid in town who moved in a few days before (See the events of “The Stick of truth for a set up). Again you create your character and I recommend to chose a female character and switch the difficult setting to get some dark South Park humour ;-). You chose a superhero class for your abilities including a weakness via a character sheet (Weakness: Like Kryptonite for Superman). I recommend vampires as weakness if you don't plan on buying DLC. As you progress through the game more options unlock and you can test multiple builds. The main change in gameplay is switching from turn based RPG to tactical RPG. The battles are on a square with 4 x 4 fields. There you move or position your party of up to 4 characters (= 3 characters of your choice can be added). When it is your characters turn you can move and use actions like attacks, items or special moves. Each special move has a specific range you have to take into consideration. The other party members have special abilities that help in battle and outside of it. Clarification for outside of battle: It has again a Metroidvania style that lets you unlock new areas with the right abilities / companions that are unpassable before. Your player character is special as he can master the art of microaggressions, add DNA boost to improve his stats and has even more farting skills available than before. There is more to it like knock backs, status effects etc. which is self-explanatory enough in the game. Visuals and soundtrack: Again this is one of the best source adaptations in videogames. They nailed the look, feel and characters. Like for the prequel I only say that I thought that the town was bigger and I am not a huge fan of the style (which would be unfair to criticize here). Humour: I expected more after the prequel game. It is entertaining but weaker. I almost say it is a bit tame for South Park standards but refused this statement at the end. Like I already said some parts feel a bit stretched out. South Park humour warning: The humour is not for everyone. For some it can be disgusting, harmful or tasteless. Negatives: The battle system did not win me over completely as I felt sometimes restricted. Except the boss battles the game was too easy and I see myself not as above average player. Some superheroes classes are underpowered. Lastly it is not as good as the prequel with weaker humour (I know I already said this before but it is a quintessential misstep for me). Overall I enjoyed the game but it was not that great. There are however strong moments I liked but it is not enough that I recommend the game. Expand

The charm and humor from the last game feels a bit lost in this game, but the game-play is overall improved from the last game. Not much else to say.

Still a good game, but not as good as the first one.

It has the good humor and characters, but the combat itself, although is fun, has its issues, The area size changes on different combats, specially the ones with objectives. And focusing on a role is not very usefull or recommended due to the combat area estatement.

Pretty good game. Lot of jokes, you will definitely enjoy it if you like the TV series. I give it 7 because it doesn't bring anything new, city is too small and had some bugs. Overall I feel like I got enough fun to justify buying it new.

Unable to agree on who will get a movie or Netflix series, the characters split into two rival factions, Coon and Friends and the Freedom Pals and now a Civil war breaks out...

    Pros:
    • Although I consider this story weaker compared to SOT, The Fractured But Whole does give us a story like what we would see from the show and it does go deeper into some characters stories this time around.
    • The references to the show are still around like the last game.

    Cons:
    • The pacing of the story is inconsistent. While SOT's built up very well, But Wholes seems to not build up to the same standards as often or even drags on in certain sections.
    • The humor of South Park is still there, but it doesn't always work as great as it should. Kind off like a just average episode of South Park. Just feels like Matt and Trey took a smaller role in this games creation.

Gameplay: South Park: The Fractured But Whole uses a turn-based combat system. When combat starts, the floor area becomes a grid. The turn order is displayed in a timeline at the bottom right corner of the screen. Players can move their character and buddies in specified areas of the grid marked in blue.

    Pros:
    • I liked the combat in the first game, but FBW actually improved it with a grid system, up to three buddies fighting alongside you and overall feel a lot more tactics is involved with the game mechanics.
    • There is no longer any missable collectebles so completionists can be happy.
    • The classes are super-hero themed this time around and are fun to play as and experiment with. Also with the feature of combined the powers from different classes for the main character, it made the combos very exciting to mess with and adding loads of different ways to play.
    • To do everything in this game, it took around 30 hours to fully beat it which is over double the time to beat SOT which is excellent.
    • The companions are even more useful in this game, as they have there own abilities in combat and can use some of their powers to help you explore South Park.
    • Just like SOT, love how the gameplay feels like the imagination of a 8 year old playing super-heros with all the details.

    Cons:
    • The side quests are a step down from SOT. But Whole is more focused on it's main story then the side quests, but as a result the side quests really are not that great or memorable.
    • Some classes are clearly more powerful then others. Yes you mix the classes around, however I always found the melee-focused classes/powers much less useful then the ranged or status effect ones.

    Sound and Music:

    Pros:
    • The voice actors from the show reprise their roles they do a solid enough job on the whole thing with some crazy ones for good measure.
    • The music does it's job. But I found myself laughing a lot to some of the tracks they used from the show so that's a plus.
    • Sound fx are solid and do feel like from the show.

    Performance and Graphics:

    Pros:
    • Once again the game looks like an episode of South Park like SOT, except with a few better textures and lighting which is a good thing.
    • The game ran well overall.

    Cons:
    • Saw a fair few more glitches compared to SOT. Mainly it was due to the audio cutting out or lip-syncing was off. But it happened more and more often as the game went on. Really a small complaint since nothing major happened besides that.

Verdict: I have to say, we got a good sequel to the best South Park game ever made. Although I enjoyed the combat, the super-hero theme, some game mechanics and had some great laughs with this game. I think the story and the humor at times has taken a step down from Stick of Truth and I just found The Fractured But Whole less iconic. That's not to say it's a good RPG and it's still a must play for any fans of the show. I think it's just Stick of Truth did such an amazing job TFBW would have a hard time competing. But still, really good game and I recommend it.

I really enjoyed the beginning of the game because it hones in the fact that its just “pretend,” the kids are just using their imaginations and none of it is real even in that world. Basically the game starts out and the kids say, “we’re not playing Fantasy anymore, now we’re playing superheroes.” Fantasy of course being a reference to the previous South Park game, The Stick of Truth.I really enjoyed the beginning of the game because it hones in the fact that its just “pretend,” the kids are just using their imaginations and none of it is real even in that world. I haven’t played the Stick of Truth but it seems like The Fractured But Whole is similar to The Stick of Truth. The combat is a turn-based strategy game which is odd for a South Park game but its works well. Especially for me considering how much I enjoy Turn-Based Strategy games and I can confidently say that this is a good one.

The premise of the game is your character in the game is the new kid at school and there is something major going on in town. All the cats seem to be missing so there is a little crime solving in the game as well. So you’re kind of like Batman where you’re both a Superhero and Detective. Although you don’t solve a lot, most of the detective work is done via cutscenes.

Looking back to this game, I can say that I had fun playing through this game. Its not a particularly difficult game to play and it is funny at times. There are a lot of fart jokes which as someone who is in their late 20’s now, fart jokes aren’t what they use to be. Thats more my age, I do feel like I have outgrown South Park but with that being said, I still enjoyed this game. It doesn’t make me want to watch the show but it does make me want to play the Stick of Truth.

Everything that was presented in South Park seems to have been recycled in this game. Like a few others have said, many of the jokes have been done. I didn't like the move to a tactical rpg and less focus on stats and equipment. Instead, its just some artifacts that really "set it and forget it" feel to upping your stats. Which really seems like a lazy system, as is the crafting. (Then again, maybe that is a joke in itself)

Sidequests are mostly boring but add some funny moments, with a few memorable ones. The main story is decent and really just makes up for a long South Park episode. It seems as though they wanted to do more gags on the comics but never really went through with it, probably because of licensing or something. There is a mountain of material to go on...which seemed like a missed opportunity on their part.

I didn't enjoy this as much as the previous South Park game, but the main quest was still good enough to keep me entertained.

This is a decent game, it is mildly amusing for the most part and hilarious at others, it offers several better game-play elements than the first game but doesn't have a better story over all.

Mechanically this is an excellent game and a vast improvement on stick of truth, the world feels better, it's easier, quicker and more fun to navigate with a lot less loading times and a smoother movement across the landscape for your character even if the same negatives from the first game about the repetitive environment with small daily changes and locked off sections of the town still exist.

The combat is a vast improvement over SOT, much more enjoyable than the absolute tedious qte crap that was the first game. I actually tried to go back and play the first one again after this and couldn't stomach it which is a real shame because it was an enjoyable story and theme, which arguably worked better than the superhero theme in the current one although that is fun offering good powers and fun characters and interactions in south park.

It has some good RPG mechanics although it is a bit thin, the lack of weapons or armour and no ability to upgrade you companions abilities or load-outs is a bit of a drawback for me but they are obviously trying to keep the game-play appeal wide and simple given that a lot of people will buy it because they are south park fans not RPG fans.

If you are a fan of South Park you will enjoy this game purely for the humour and aesthetic of it, but the game is fun even if it is a bit repetitive, particularly the combat and enemies. RPG fans will enjoy this as well as it is a fun game to play with an interesting (if stupid) story.

Despite the negatives I have still given this game an 8 as I did really enjoy playing it and it's more a case of picking up on failings on reflection.

In the third game I would like to see them go totally off planet, maybe using the town as a hub with your travelling to lots of other environments and getting rid of the repetition issue, I would like much deeper RPG mechanics and a focus on a larger and grander story and game while doing away with some of the gimmicky stuff like taking a **** The tactical turn based combat served the game well but more enemy and move variety combined with making it a bit more challenging could result in a top notch game.

I feel the time taken to complete the game is adequate while leaving extra missions and side-quests for those who want to 100% the game.

The only downside for me is a bug where the auto-save locks. It happened to me once and thankfully, I googled the problem before continuing to play and lose hours of my save.

Introduction: The sequel to 2013 hit game "South Park: The Stick of Truth" is out, so the question is, Does this live up to the original? In some ways, it does due to a massive overhaul in the combat system. Gameplay is more diverse and a chance to make great strategies (or very cheap ones.) Sadly, this game does slip in a few areas.
Story: The story this time around is pretty simple.

In some ways, it does due to a massive overhaul in the combat system. Gameplay is more diverse and a chance to make great strategies (or very cheap ones.) Sadly, this game does slip in a few areas.
Story: The story this time around is pretty simple. Eric Cartman or "The Coon" goes back in time to tell all the kids (including your custom character) that are still playing their game from the previous installment, that a cat has been stolen and they need to play Superheroes to get the cat back. Normally South Park takes simple premises like this and turns them up to 11 for the sake of comedy. This time around, I feel like the story never hit the 11 I was expecting. Jokes are used way too much and the ending is very anti-climatic and not over the top, unlike the previous South Park game. There is still some funny and crazy moment but there is only so many times you will think that Cartman talking about your Mom getting **** is funny. (He reuses the joke 5 to 6 times over the course of the whole game!) The story is like an average episode of South Park, not amazing but it gets the job done.
Gameplay: The gameplay has been improved since the last time we played a South Park game. Instead of standard turn-based combat, it's a bit more complicated. In battle, all players stand on a grid and get to choose from a limited amount of spaces, where they will stand and where they can attack. This system allows for much more strategy instead of standing in place and attacking back and forth until someone wins. Before you start a fight, you will get to choose classes every so often. These classes let you get certain attacks and abilities for your character, these attacks can become stronger by raising your might level. The way you level your characters stats have been a little dumb down but I think its fine for what the game is trying to be. Your might level is determined but what items you attach to your character. The higher the level, the stronger you are. Pretty straightforward and works well. Gameplay is great and should be the standard if more South Park games are to come out in the future.
Technical: The game suffers a little here. The overall presentation is nice and on par with the first game but technical issue get in the way at times. I had the game freeze in battle multiple times causing me to restart a battle. Audio would cut off or would not be sync at times. Other than this stuff that they should have ironed out before launch, the games runs fine when out of battle. Smooth 60fps in cutscenes and gameplay.
Conclusion: South Park: The Fracture But Whole had all the elements of a good South Park game. It ran with those elements and slip up a bit, but for the most part, they made it to the finish line. If you are a fan of South Park, I would still highly recommend it. There is still enough here to make fans of the TV show happy. If your just a fan of RPG's I would wait for a price drop due to a short and lacking story, and so they can iron out the bugs for the gameplay.

While Stick of Truth was a quite short and magnificently paced rollercoaster of top-notch South Park writing, this game just drags on for waaaaaay too long with a story that is kinda all over the place and there are way less funny surprises that shake up the game than in SOT.

Also, the combat system leans more towards tactical RPGs this time, but only ever explores that style on a pretty superficial level. Mainly, the new system makes battles take WAY longer now, often up to 10 mins. All of which means the combat got pretty stale for me quite early on despite the game desperately trying to keep it from doing so by throwing more and more characters and classes at me. I honestly preferred SOT's super-simple turn-based combat over this system, at least with that, low-level battles were over very quickly.

So, at the end of the day, TFBW just didn't entertain me and make me laugh in the delightful way SOT did, even though the latter may have come across a little janky at times. That doesn't exactly make Butwhole a bad game, but it does lack charm and look a little lifeless compared to its predecessor.

The Fractured but Whole might be a better game (mainly thanks to significantly improved combat) but The Stick of Truth was a better South Park by a long shot. The Stick was brimming with humor and creativity (remember the 8-bit Canada?), this one is a forced compilation of jokes that are mostly either lazily rehashed (City Wok’s owner mispronouncing words, they took our jobs, poof! It’s gone and many, many more) or shallow. Where’s the show’s brilliant satire!? I’m not just disappointed by the fact that Parker and Stone botched this. As a die-hard fan of the show I’m simply embarrassed. [13/2017, p.46]

Return to South Park with an improved combat system and superheroes instead of Elves. It's still entertaining, but the first game (included in the pack) was more hilarious and had better side missions. [Issue#280]

Its not the game its forerunner was, but The Fractured But Whole's accessible combat tactics and occasional rib-ticklers ensure most players will have a good time. [Christmas 2017, p.96]
