The platforming is rock solid, and as I noted, I love the theme with a passion. I would like to see WayForward do something more narrative-heavy with Shantae, as I think she would be a spectacular lead in a RPG or similar, but as it stands this is my favourite 2D platformer series of all, and I'm glad to see that it's now on PlayStation too.

Shantae: Risky’s Revenge Director’s Cut is the best version of an already great game.

It might have lot a little bit of the spark it had when it was originally released, but it still is a great game, fun, challenging and addictive. Ideal for those who feel like playing a game that might have been made in the 8-16 bit era.

It is great for players who enjoy a solid character-action game, and of course the Metroid-style so many games have adopted over the year.-Combine that with likable characters and a colorful, gorgeously pixelated visual style, and this game is a must own.

While there's definitely not enough here to justify a second purchase for existing fans, Shantae: Risky's Revenge - Director's Cut contains more than enough positive factors to interest new ones.

Shantae: Risky’s Revenge: Director’s Cut could have used some help with its map system, but literally everything else is spot-on.

Shantae: Risky’s Revenge is a great first impression on a series that I’ve been curious about for a while now. What it lacks in length it more than makes it up for in level design and precise controls.

This is a good platformer game with some "metroidvania" elements to it (albeit it lacks the content of a metroidvania game). The charactersThis is a good platformer game with some "metroidvania" elements to it (albeit it lacks the content of a metroidvania game). The characters are fun, yet simple, one dimensional (and of a game of this kind its not a bad thing). The music is GREAT, and so does the sprites and enviroments. My only major complains are a confusing map system, and airborne controls (airborne combat feels somewhat clunky).

The game's lenght is about 5 to 7 hours of gameplay, which is ok for its asking price (10usd digital release), and for its price is a game worth paying for.
