This is a good platformer game with some "metroidvania" elements to it (albeit it lacks the content of a metroidvania game). The characters are fun, yet simple, one dimensional (and of a game of this kind its not a bad thing). The music is GREAT, and so does the sprites and enviroments. The game's lenght is about 5 to 7 hours of gameplay, which is ok for its asking price (10usd digital release), and for its price is a game worth paying for.

Some will get an old-school kick out of it, but most will wish it followed the lead of its villain and took a few more chances. [Feb 2016, p.90]

Shantae: Risky’s Revenge Director’s Cut is the best version of an already great game.

It might have lot a little bit of the spark it had when it was originally released, but it still is a great game, fun, challenging and addictive. Ideal for those who feel like playing a game that might have been made in the 8-16 bit era.
