    I loved this game. Firstly, I thought that different developer means that the game will be different or even worse. But that is not the case! Eidos Montreal is an amazing team. I loved this game. Firstly, I thought that different developer means that the game will be different or even worse. But that is not the case! Eidos Montreal is an amazing team. They achieved excellent results. SotTR reminded me a lot of TR Anniversary as well as TR II and TR III. Beautiful locations, solid story, very interesting and atmospheric tombs.
    They improved quite a few things in comparison with the previous game (RotTR). It concerns:
    1) quality of the foliage, which became a lot better;
    2) interaction with the foliage is more advanced too;
    3) Lara model and some other major models are a bit more enhanced;
    4) water quality is much better;
    5) tombs and crypts became more sophisticated;
    6) some in-game animations (like Lara's movements in certain positions) are better, more real;
    6) AA is higher quality.
    This game really knows a lot about shadows, as they are a big part of it. And the quality of shadows is great.
    Combat is as good as it was before, they didn't change it much, just reduced the quantity of action scenes in favour of exploration. There are many things to explore: outstanding locations, a lot of challenge tombs, more advanced crypts (than in RotTR), many side quests.
    I loved the soundtrack too. It presents great feeling of presence.
    The game has different pace, than the two previous TR games. There are a few action scenes, but it relies more on exploration thing. I am not sure that this pace is better, but I think the devs arranged it well. They've succeeded in making this game interesting and compelling.
    SotTR might not be the best action-adventure game of all times, but it definitely deserves praise, respect and admiration.

    I would like to add, that Square Enix, unlike some other publishers (Activision and Rockstar, for instance), do really care about the quality of their games. So the devs (EM) were able to eliminate all the major flaws of the game - big input lag and some other bugs. Blur intensity is fine. So the game plays perfect, as smooth as silk and does not distract player with any substantial issues.
    I also would like to thank developers for the top notch PS4 Pro optimization. They achieved 1872p and rock solid framerate (there are few dips only during some cut-scenes). Excellent job! If I had not known that this is multiplatfom game, I would be sure it is PS4 exclusive, as the optimization for Sony console is really smart.

    So taking into account all the factors, in my humble opinion, SotTR deserves 10 out of 10. I enjoyed it very much. Thank you, Eidos Montreal, for the opportunity to play this game. I really hope TR franchise will continue to evolve and please it's fans and admirers with new, more and more exquisite, thorough and refined games.

    O melhor Tomb Raider ate hoje e o jogo que mais respeitou a essencia do original. Isto é um tomb raider para os fãs e nao para os que procurarm um spin off do call of duty. 90% exploraçao, 10% combate. Cenarios incriveis , imensos coletaveis , 30 horas de jogo, esta tudo aqui para tornar este jogo um autentico classico.

    I like Lara. Shadow of Tomb Raider has a lot of fun. It's what I want. Treasure hunt, browsing of the tombs, history, the beautiful world of forests, hunting challenges, and killing Trinity Soldiers. And I like this, I'm still mentioning the top photo mode.

    The third and—allegedly—final installment in the "origins reboot trilogy", Shadow of the Tomb Raider is an adventure/action videogame with light role-playing and Metroidvania elements that doesn't seek to revolutionize either the franchise or the genre. ReusingThe third and—allegedly—final installment in the "origins reboot trilogy", Shadow of the Tomb Raider is an adventure/action videogame with light role-playing and Metroidvania elements that doesn't seek to revolutionize either the franchise or the genre. In fact, it sticks to the formula and concepts of the first two entries too close, only adding a few quality-of-life improvements. Reusing what has worked in the past can be both a blessing and a curse. On the one hand, returning fans of the series can expect to experience all the things that made them fall in love with the two previous titles of the origins reboot trilogy: hunting wild animals, crafting materials and improving gear using resources collected, solving puzzles, doing optional tombs and side quests, and founding different types of collectibles, it is all there. Conversely, providing gameplay otherwise identical to that of Rise of the Tomb Raider leads to seriously questioning if the franchise has once more stalled and if it's time for it to take another break. Perhaps. In any case, the gaming experience is solid for the most part (minor imprecisions in the platforming and with how the camera controls) and, at the end of the day, quite satisfying.

    Beyond the cliched argument that sets the game in motion, Shadow of the Tomb Raider tries to conclude Lara Croft's origins storyline on a personal level. It is a precautionary tale about human nature and how far a person will go to accomplish its goals, whether valid or not. As a result of this more insightful approach to the game's narrative, the action had to be kept in check for two purposes: one, to give the characters more time to reflect on the world and their actions, and two, to grow tension and make these moments more impactful. Does it pay off? Aside from one masterfully crafted sequence/scene mid into the game, not in the epic way the developers wished for. It doesn't help the fact that, despite Camilla Luddington's utterly brilliant performance, the Lara Croft character falls somewhat flat because of the underwhelming cast of individuals (except her friend, Jonah Meave) she's paired with: supporting roles are passable at best while the antagonist feels like a greatly missed opportunity. The narrative works ok but it isn't something outstanding in the end.

    Finally, if there is anything in Shadow of the Tomb Raider that deserves absolute praise are its visuals and art direction. True, character models don't achieve photorealistic status—in fact, they are a bit off—but the landscapes, the tombs, and the in-game relics are astonishingly beautiful, with the latter paying so much attention to details that could easily pass as exact replicas of the real thing. It goes to show the developers put their heart into studying and researching materials and lore to finally achieving such an outstanding result. Simply gorgeous.

    CONCLUSION
    Shadow of the Tomb Raider may not be the epic conclusion everyone was hoping for but it is a very good game in an otherwise fantastic trilogy. Yes, it doesn't do more than necessary, it misses some narrative opportunities, and it prioritizes functionality above else. However, the game still works and is quite an enjoyable ride despite the shortcomings. And, honestly, that's all that matters in the end.

Crystal Dinamics a tomar viento.

    Este juego es una obra de arte.

There's no difference in combat difficulty between Hard and Deadly Obsession, the only difference being no save points (you die you have to redo the whole level again), so I can't find much point in the harder difficulty. It was beyond frustrating because I only died once in the entire game due to the difficulty of the combat. The other times I died were due to camera angle malfunctions and glitches in the platforming meaning I had redo 30-40 minutes of gameplay again that I solved first run with combat simply because I missed a jump by the smallest of margins. This really detracted from the game for me. The story and general gameplay was good but found the difficulty and difficulty to get the trophy pointless. No dying doesn't make a game more challenging. The combat health and puzzles are what do. Put that aside though, and it wa still a great game. Expand

What makes it good is the constants that were carried over, the ease of use combat for example or the easy traversing of the terrain. It is let down however by the seemingly same plot line just in a new dress.

    Don’t get me wrong I had a blast playing this game, it just felt monotonous at times, when you realise its practically the same action over and over again. The puzzle elements were fine, and added that little bit of head scratching challenge you would expect. The fight scenes, especially the final boss was fun to play. Even stealth was challenging to a point it was fun, and I hate stealth.
    Though the game has its ups, it does have its downs. The game plays much like previous instalments, unearth some ancient artefact leading to a wonderful hidden civilisation, while running away from a military organisation hellbent on killing you, all the while Lara keeps saying that everything bad that happens is her fault.

    That last bit leads me on to my final point. I get it Lara is an all action fighting machine, I mean she is a Tomb Raider, but by god can she not be so stubborn about everything. Someone dies or is injured, she’s all like I’m sorry this is all my fault. She gets injured, she doesn’t want anyone’s help. Its like she plays the good guy and bad guy at exactly the same time.

    The game then is a fun play, although it gets repetitive and the character personality does irritate me from time to time, it’s still a fun game nonetheless. I don’t know if there will be another game, but if there is let’s hope it’s as good this one if not better.

    Pros:
    -Nice story (the kind of story you should expect from a Tomb Raider Game)
    -Nice ending
    -Beautiful world
    -I really, really, really enjoyed the puzzles
    -Runs amazingly well on the PS5

    Cons:
    -There is not much combat, which is kind of good because it's mechanics feel a little bit clunky, specially when foes are very close.

    This game is very reminiscent of Uncharted 4 and Horizon Zero Dawn, which is a good thing. It is a beautiful exploration game, with challenging puzzles, and nice gameplay mechanics and customization. A little more polish on the gunplay/shooting would have boosted the score to a 9!

Shadow of the Tomb Raider has a great combat system, interesting crafting mechanisms, good platforming overall and challenging puzzles. The problem here is that you won't have so much opportunities to test your different weapons or special techniques as the combat is not as frequent as the previous entries. I felt that the game was designed for those who like to do new game plus or multiple playthroughs (there are some metroidvania elements).

    Most of the time, a developed skill tree system and crafing system are more relevant in an open world game IMO. It can be good also in a linear or semi-openworld game but we need enough opportunities to test the gear, unlocked skills and abilities.

    For the story, I thought that was pretty average.

    I still recommend this game, especially for those who played the other tomb raiders. I think the normal difficulty and hard difficulty are well balanced (I switched between those two difficulties in my playthrough). It's really nice also that you can even more customize the difficulty by selecting specific difficulties for exploration, puzzles and combat.

    A quick last note....We feel a lot of inspiration from Uncharted franchise in this one (more cinematic cutscenes and similar vibes in specific parts of the story)

Gran juego.

    This game is pretty immense and arguably underrated, especially when viewed next to the most recent Tomb Raider games. The reason I can understand some of the mixed reception the game had on release is I have played the game to death and can recognise things that a certain player won't get along with in this. Let me explain.

    This game is pretty immense and arguably underrated, especially when viewed next to the most recent Tomb Raider games. The reason I can understand some of the mixed reception the game had on release is I have played the game to death and can recognise things that a certain player won't get along with in this. Let me explain.

    Classic Tomb Raider (1996) was mainly about three things: the puzzles, the exploration and the suspense. The suspense part often came from the few encounters you'd actually get, alongside a sudden surge in music, which was otherwise pretty scarce. I see Shadow as returning more to these values, which is why I loved it so much, as these things were what made the original a classic. Recent entries I also enjoyed have arguably been widely successful because of the action and encounters. In this game the thing that will stand out most will be the Tombs themselves, and puzzles therein. There are encounters, however it doesn't feel like they are frequent. The game's definitely cinematic though, and you do indeed still get some of the rush from the recent games. For instance, there is one area that is flooded early on, and you're negotiating getting through it. Let's just say, it's literally a rush.

    So, assuming you enjoy the Tomb aspect of Tomb Raider, this entry has the most of them, and also the best of them in years. The puzzles when taken as a whole (including the excellent x7 DLC quest/ Tombs) are the most inventive, most taxing, and impressive looking, and if this is your bag, you will probably find this the best Tomb Raider in years. If not, you may actually hate this entry, because, without the aid of guides, this game taxes you... you have to pay attention, you have to listen and watch for the clues. This game could frustrate the hell out of you.

    The visuals are absolutely fantastic, arguably an improvement on the previous title. The texture detail, even on a base PS4 boggled my mind. This late 2018 game looks consistently good on practically all textures in the game in and out of cut scenes. Something I can not say for a more recent entry like say, Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

    This was a platinum trophy pursuit, and I really appreciated everything the game offered. I didn't even mind most of the side quest content because they often involved entering one of the many impressive looking crypts or tombs in the main game. Some side-quests however were very 'fetchy' or 'back and forthy', which is always a chore to have to do in *any* game of this nature.

    The negatives in the game for me I will say amount to the controls. At times the control response in platforming seemed inconsistent. That is to say, an action that worked in one area will not have the expected response in another area, or you may have to compensate without the game being explicit about letting on. It's difficult to explain in words, but suffice to say, as a consequence expect to die a lot during the platforming in this. For many this will be extremely irritating as it was even to me at times. This is only made worse in very hard mode (needed for Platinum trophy), as the checkpoint saves are far fewer / if any.

    The other area I wasn't that into was the story itself, however within it the acting, drama and voices hit the mark for me, as the visuals (textures and backgrounds) are all on point, even on 7 year old (time of writing) base PS4 hardware.

    I definitely recommend the game. I say it is underrated but recognise it won't be for everybody owing to the difficulty spike, some of the control during platforming, and its emphasis in often very taxing, very long but rewarding puzzles

Other than these flaws the game is enjoyable until you reach a puzzle, let’s be positive for a second. Aesthetically, it is by far the most impressive Tomb Raider game and gives Uncharted 4 a run for its money (at least graphically). I even prefer it over Rise of the Tomb Raider because I felt the snowy environments in that one made for a visually repetitive experience. The gameplay here is also far more dynamic than its ever been; A much deeper emphasis on stealth, and the combat environments allow for more aerial traversal that wasn't as prevalent in previous entries. I also thought the parkour segments were very impressive, giving you a plethora of new tools that make exploration feel brand new again. It makes the climbing segments in Jedi Fallen Order feel like an absolute joke in comparison. There's weight to every impact. Even though it's generally pretty easy, I always feel like I'm scurrying by a thin thread. Swinging off ropes is so exhilirating like a rollercoaster ride. It's as enjoyably cinematic as you'd want.

    Story-wise, I found the game to be a little more by-the-numbers, but there were definitely some series highlights with Lara's childhood flashback sequence and a nice emphasis on her friendship with Jonah. I can't even remember the villain's name or what he really wanted, and he overall doesn't have a strong presence throughout the story, but I can at least say that exploring tombs and uncovering the big mystery was more than enough to stay interested in Lara's plight. She just seems so desperate and you can't help but route for her as she throws her life on the line. It's also refreshing for the genre that instead of raiding tombs for treasure, Lara is trying to prevent bad people from raiding them.

    I think one of the bigger falters was unfortunately Shadow's newest integration: There's plenty of side missions and a hub-world to explore but I never cared to do any of it. The biggest problem with them is not only their fetch-quest nature, but their automated cutscenes. My biggest pull for the Tomb Raider reboots have always been their top-notch motion capture performances and the work Camila Luddington puts into her role. All of that is still present in the main story. But that caliber of storytelling sadly gets lost in the procedural cutscenes, and it doesn't help that the stories within them are not all that interesting. I think it works in games like Fallout and Skyrim that are built around a sandbox world, but in a linear game like Tomb Raider, it just grinds the momentum to a halt. Thankfully they're largely skippable, but it unfortunately makes the game feel on the shorter side by choosing to ignore them.

    Ultimately, I'd rather have a 10-12 hour game full of highlights and fun moments than a 19 hour game that feels stretched out. I'd probably say Shadow is my 2nd favorite of the reboot trilogy. It has the best gameplay and graphics by far, so I definitely see it having a higher replayability than the others. But I still think the first reboot game has a far more memorable and compelling story. And all the gameplay mechanics that are expanded and refined in Shadow, wouldn't exist without that game. Shadow still makes for a worthwhile entry, but I would be sad if this is really the closer for the franchise. It makes for a good closer in a Skyfall kind of way, but definitely leaves me craving more. I don't know if I'm ready to say goodbye to this version of Lara.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider spricht also vor allem unseren Forschergeist und unsere Rätselfreude an, weniger den Action Fan.

    After completing Shadow of the Tomb Raider back when it originally launched in 2018, I felt that it wasn't quite as good as it's 2 predecessors; 2013's Tomb Raider, and 2015's Rise of the Tomb Raider. The graphics still hold up very well on a PS4 in 2022, even better on a PS4 Pro. But on a PS5, it looks great! The soundtrack is excellent, sound effects are very good, as well as the voice acting. And the set pieces are absolutely stunning!

    The game play and puzzles are a complete blast. There were some cool mechanics that I wish would have been expanded upon (mud and leaf walls for camo), but they were still fun additions.

    To close, and to avoid spoilers, the story is quite interesting., and it was a solid "closure" for Camilla's Survivor Lara Croft. By far the best in my opinion.

    Sometimes you can feel, that this game is missing something, but graphics is just beautiful, and though it didn't bring anything special from the second part, it's still a nice charming game.

    All I can say is shadow is way more enjoyable than raise. The graphics on ROTTR are out of this world back then? Well yes it was but Shadow is more fun and challenging than endless enemies and mindless gun fights.

It is no a really difficult game, at least if you play in the two easiest difficulties. There are some side missions that end being quite boring, but there are others with a good narrative. The hunting skills are cool but they are not as implemented as I would like them to be. This is because it’s not necessary, aside one or two moments, to hunt animals. The combat skills like the stealthy kills are great. It is a fully enjoyable game. Expand

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view.

Most of these are well implented, and allow different play styles with good difficulty level. The most annoying I find are the quick-time eventish running scene where you are basically always running from something and have to react to falling things and stuff, they aren't real QTEs so there's no button prompts but you still have to memorise what do on each step and it's usually not obvious at all so it just becomes annoying. The camera is sometimes quite bad and especially swimming is torture. Other than that there is no big problems in the game. The music is top notch and the voice acting is passable. I kind of like using native languages for npc's but calling it immersive is quite absurd, that's not quite how it works in real world. Expand

    Visually Stunning! I play these games for the adventure/exploration mostly & this game delivered on that front. The kind of vibe you get when exploring in the first two games & reminiscent of Uncharted series, for visuals it's a 10/10. I captured so many spectacular pics & videos.

    I didn't do all the tombs & mostly stuck to the main story, took me 16-17 hrs. Like others have mentioned,

    The first two games had a better balance imo. I was put off by some of the other reviews tbh, BUT SoTR is worth checking out, especially if you can get it on sale.

    Awesome game, I loved the story, but I really struggled with the map design, it looks confusing.
    2nd edit : after finishing the game I can say this game is truly amazing, the storyline is awesome, also the environment is such a huge world, You can tell how hard the devs worked to bring a beautiful ambiance.

    Shadow of the Tomb Raider should leave us wanting more from the rebooted Lara Croft game, but with some clunky controls and a lazy combat system, what saves the game from being below average are beautiful visuals, fantastic puzzles and tomb layouts along with true adventuring. It’s as mixed up of a bag as one can get.
