    A strangely imbalanced game. Much like the last two, this is stunning to behold with a grit that keeps you playing as Lara once again leaps, climbs and slides across a vast, barren landscape that is just ripe for exploration. I say imbalanced because I think the in game collectible content, which is admittedly large and encourages exploration, hardly matters when the majority of game isA strangely imbalanced game. The combat itself is varied with a mixture of weapons and custom ammunition and is challenging fun when you actually get some. There is nowhere enough combat content to justify the amount of collectibles and skills which in turn left the game feeling imbalanced. A big shout out though to the couple of playable set pieces that occur throughout the game.

    The biggest let down however is the story here which is simply boring. Compared to the bases and facilities of Trinity in the last game which made them seem like a genuine threat, here we have none of that and all we get is a primitive South American jungle village with no memorable characters. Billed as the moment when Lara Croft finally becomes the Tomb Raider we know and love, frankly I don't see it happen here. It is so focused on the main storyline that anything personal seems to be lost except for a moment at the end. To be honest I thought the ending of 2013's Tomb Raider did a better job at establishing Lara as the Tomb Raider we know her to be.

    The game play is familiar and fun and of course the gorgeous visuals will keep you playing and exploring and collecting all these items. For me however this is a bit of a disappointment and a step down from the outstanding two preceding games.    … Expand

    It's a decent adventure game but it is not the best of this trilogy. Actually, I'd say this is the worst of the 3. The first two games were amazing, had great moments and they were a blast to explore; lots of secrets, tombs, challenges, upgrades, great narratives.

    This third one is just more of the same but it does not taste as good. It's not bad, it just feels... less inspired. And I also think this new game does not look as good and polished as the first two... it feels kind of rushed to be honest. Some of Lara's facial expressions are atrocious.

    It's a nice game to have some casual, adventure fun for 15/20 hours. And that's it. Kind of a weird end for the trilogy though... thought they would end it with a bang, and I was left with: ok, thanks I guess.

    This Lara reboot lacks soul. Look how amazing the Uncharted series is. Those games have jaw dropping moments. This new Tomb Raider series is just about killing, upgrading stuff and finding caves while avoiding some mysterious threat to destroy the world.    … Expand

    What I like is that You actually do more exploring than gun-fighting. What I don't: Laura's voice acting and character itself, it's just not her.. and the flashlight is buggy.

Tombs are more numerous this time, and generally well-designed, with better ones reserved for DLCs. Combat and climbing are serviceable, but nothing special.     The main weakness is, also still, the game's story, which largely mirrors Rise's, starts out in an intriguing way, but slows down to a halt promptly. Croft mostly acts like a whiny b**ch, her "lost my parents" backstory still doesn't make you care, Jonah is still an annoying friendzone type ("R U OK, LARAH?" constitutes 50+% of his dialogue), Trinity is a lame antagonist, and the aboriginal allies are forgettable cliches. The franchise continues to suffer from an identity crisis, with its gameplay mechanics more honed towards open-world style, while the levels are mostly tight limiting corridors. Plus, there is a strong imbalance in favor of exploration at the expense of combat, so you spend the majority of the game unlocking combat skills only to use them a handful of times. The game tries to stretch itself, as that's what AAA games are expected to do nowadays, unfortunately, so we also get a number of side missions, which are split into alright tomb missions and horrendously boring fetch quests, where only the strongest won't skip through the cringy dialogues and free 4 prisoners / talk to 5 natives / read 3 murals / etc.

    The Tomb Raider reboot started out strong, but took a step back with its sequel, and a new developer studio couldn't shake things up. It's just an alright game worth picking up at a discount with all the DLCs included, which is a shame, as the potential to be something greater is still there.    … Expand

    This is both a good and terrible franchise. It's good in terms of graphics and sound. But the puzzles are more irritating and action seems less than the last two entries. Plus, it seems a bit cut scene heavy for what it is supposed to be.

By focusing on exploration, stealth, and using the bow and arrow instead of constant gunfights, the game manages to be more unique and memorable instead of just being an inferior Uncharted. There's also less grindy collectable crap, which is a plus.

    The story is pretty mediocre, but I wasn't too bothered by that. Most side characters are rather lame, but I did appreciate how Jonah was given a bigger role than in Rise. Lara's voice acting is great, even if some of the lines feel cheesy.

    Story and game play where fun at start but at the middle to end got predictable and repetitive. Linear if you follow objective markers. Spamming the Lara senses button makes exploring the world for secrets an easy task. And the worst part is you cant stop, every    Its a 6.5 for me and here is why.

    This isn't a bad game by any means, but there's nothing new in the content. It feels like the developers are just lazily treading water and relying on the formula that's worked for them a dozen times before, without trying to go that little bit further and surprise the player with something new.     First of all developers should stop releasing games every year. This game was not made but Crystal dynamics and it can be seen at once! This game is like Uncharted the Lost legacy, because it is really short, there is just one map. I really liked the first two Tomb raiders, they had very good narrative, nice shooting, jumping and so on.     Nice setting and nice graphic. It's more focused on exploring and adventure than combat so all the levelling up is almost pointless. You may easily walk trough the game with no skill points spent since you never feel it makes a difference. To me this is a huge shortcoming. Also no need to buy other weapons and upgrade them since you hardly get to use them. I did all of these throughout theNice setting and nice graphic. I also find that those thousands of collectibles spread all over the world break the fluidity of the game since you need to stop every ten seconds to collect something. Of course, you can just give up on most of them but with some items they are needed to upgrade the language skills that will open some small sidequests.… Expand

    There is just no soul here…
    The game is beautiful, the mechanics are great…
    tons of stleath options.. you have your bow and arrow, you have guns that go in and out as this 14 hour story plays out, theres an xp system and skills… there are tombs which are easily the coolest and best part of the game
    But the rest of the game is just so uninspired and boring…
    The scenery never really changes.. its jungle, caves, and under water sections.. which of course, youre in south america .. but nothing is done to make any of the sections feel different… nothing sticks out or is memorable, aside from again the tombs… theyre great…
    But Shadow of the Tomb Raider just makes the mistake of trying to be what it used to be instead of evolve and create something new….
    This feels more like assassins creed and uncharted thrown into a pot, melted, and poured into an action adventure mold…
    A linear feeling third person assassins creed walking simulator almost…
    just climbing through these boring platforming sections over and over, just to hop in some water and do it all over again for 14 hours that just feels like it goes on forever in scenery that never changes…
    Shadow of the tomb raider just tries so hard to be a past version of itself because it thinks that that’s what fans want.. tombs. Puzzles, constant platforming… when just 5 years ago this series was rebooted and that reboot brought tomb raider to near masterpiece level.. it felt real and gritty.. I felt anxiety when I would have to climb, lara felt vulnerable and scared… she felt real…
    In shadow of the tomb raider she feels like an emotionaless mass murderer… just killing everyone in here way not because she has to like I felt in the reboot, but because this is a video game and theyre in the way…
    I feel like shadow and rise of the tomb raider just threw away the magic they created in the reboot.. they cept the semi open world fast traveling, the hunting animals for crafting and upgrades.. but they threw away the emotion..
    Shadow of the tomb raider is a beautiful well polished games, the tombs are amazing, the little towns feel well populated and alive…
    But theres no heart here.. no soul…
    I only felt anything at the end during a touching moment that had nothing to do with this games main story…
    but I didn’t feel for lara, any of her friends or any of this games main characters.
    Shadow of the Tomb Raider is simply forgettable.

    You know what? Let´s face the fact that iam not the smartest guy under the sun. Iam not the best puzzle solver. But man, this game is a letdown of year 2018. Puzzles are not fun, frustrating. Game is almost only climbing and swimming. Almost no action (end is action heavy, but the rest of the game is almost no action). Stealth is a joke, graphics is ugly and script is dull and boring.     It still a good beautiful and enjoyable game but not worth the 60$ because of lack of content and combat with very poor useless upgrading tree. 25$ or less would be worth the pick.

    What I want to see from future TR-Games. I would like a lot of side quests to do here and there instead of brainless collectibles. Also I would like a longer campaign and A LOT more enemys encounters so I can enjoy some action so that the skill tree would mean something.

    They put such hard work in creating one of the most beautiful environment I've seen in a game yet the lack of content is disastrous and makes me sad as hell.    … Expand

Campaign by itself without tombs only took about 12 hours. It fits well with the previous entries, but feels more like Uncharted- even has some of exact same moves as Nathan Drake.     I really enjoyed this game, but I still ended up a bit disappointed by it. We are a the third installment of the reboot and the control, while good, still feel clunky from time to time, and the jumping feel even more hand holding to the player than before. It's also very difficult to know whre you can and can't jump as the game decide if you can climb it or not, even if Lara could easilyI really enjoyed this game, but I still ended up a bit disappointed by it. In its own right its a good game there is no doubt but it doesn't have the complete Tomb Raider feel for me as an original 1996 fan. The action outweighs the puzzles, not once was there a time where trying to figure a puzzle proved tricky, and when Lara ends upFor me, this is probably the best of the reboot in the series although I cannot help but feel I am playing a version of uncharted. In its own right its a good game there is no doubt but it doesn't have the complete Tomb Raider feel for me as an original 1996 fan. The action outweighs the puzzles, not once was there a time where trying to figure a puzzle proved tricky, and when Lara ends up once again battling a military helicopter fitted with sub machine guns with waves of enemies pouring in gunning them down I just felt like I was playing a diluted version of the uncharted series. I am not sure why the puzzles and intricacies of working a tomb out are second par when you consider we live in a world where people are locked onto mobile phones with puzzle apps as a primary focus. I hope they one day reboot the original, from memory there was only one other human in most of the original game, a guy called 'Pierre' who was always one step ahead and the enemies were wildlife not military grade Navy Seal teams. Lastly the setting as graphically nice as it was, it was all the same location - not scouting the world for some secret treasure which did become repetitive.… Expand

    Hadanky byly fajn. Průzkum světa také. Co me nebavilo byl combat. Ten mi prisel takovy prkeny. V podstate hodnoceni je takove... 3,6 Not Great Not    Predchozi dily mi prisly lepsi.     Shadow of the Tomb Raider was a action filled game that was trhilling at times. The storyline is maybe the worst of the trilogy and could have been improved on the characters. The location was beautiful but repepetive at times. Overall I had fun and that is the most important factor into this game.

    I hope that Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics review Shadow Of The Tomb Raider very carefully and give the franchise the time to develop further.. My final rating is: Almost good but not great. I tried my best to be invested in it, but idk the story just didn't make me care for it. The characters are ok. Lara and Jonah are good, but the villain was just horrendous, boring and so forgettable. The graphics have improved a lot from the RiseThis game doesn't feel like a proper end or with a story that ends with a bang. First off, the story is fine but feels rather uninteresting.     Amazing visuals even in cutscenes!
    Crafting improved a lot!

    The Bads:
    Story is by far the weakest, but the setting is SO GOOD! Good side characters but somehow story does not feel well made.
    Character animations aren't great on Lara, this does not feel like 2018 game.
    Hair, mouth animations and quality also could have been better.
    Fire effects are straight up from 20 years ago, have you seen them!?
    Lost of things are added for sake of adding it, like upside down scaling cliff, I think it's a gimmick and does not work well on several occasions where I was doing everything correctly, yet I died.
    Game is heavily inspired by Uncharted series and I can tell. This is good, but when you compare, controls are way better in Uncharted.
    Also game clearly can handle 4K/60 but somehow we have to choose one or another :(

    The swimming mechanics work far better than I feared but the gameplay it provides still isn't very compelling. Every thirty minutes or so, you'll go underwater for a 3-5 minute segment that'll inevitably poop you out in a new area. There might be some deadly fish but it really doesn't change anything. If you die, just try again and you'll probably make it the second time. They don't present much interesting exploration either, as the swimming areas are usually linear or optional ponds with treasure inside. These sections were just brainless to me, nowhere near as interesting as the core platforming mechanics. More importantly, who thought focusing on water levels was a good idea? Who likes water levels? Rise of the Tomb Raider already got just about all the utility you can get out of swimming mechanics in a Tomb Raider, this was a silly thing to focus on.

    Next is stealth. This was heavily featured in the game's marketing but it really didn't change the game much to me. The main changes are you can cover yourself in mud like in the movie Predator and you can hide in grassy walls. Much like the focus on swimming, this just doesn't change the overall experience in a meaningful way. There are more sections where you're forced into stealth but this, too, is a negative in my view. I cannot understate how little combat this game has. There are almost no shoot-outs, and almost every enemy encounter can be overcome with stealth. This has a couple unintended consequences. Firstly, people like me that prefer the shooting to the stealth are likely to feel left out in the cold. These games' stealth mechanics are fine but I think the shooting is far more enjoyable, being some of my favorite third-person-shooter mechanics. The bigger problem is that this stealth focus massively undermines the upgrade system. You can upgrade your guns as usual and pick from a wide array of ability upgrades but all this is largely pointless in a game that has almost no combat.

    Lastly, is the shift in world design. While the first two Tomb Raiders were focused on making elaborate, vertical, jungle-gyms that were as enjoyable to explore as they were to look at, Shadow of the Tomb Raider takes a more muted approach. Firstly, almost the entire game takes place in a Peruvian jungle. There's lots of jungle, jungle, ruins, and more jungle. The variety on display here pales in comparison to the first two games. Even the game's intro level is just a Mexican jungle instead of a Peruvian jungle. So different... Worse, the game clearly puts a lot of focus into its 3 main village areas, where you can talk with tons of natives, do sidequests, and buy gear. Unfortunately, these areas really drop the ball. All three are incredibly flat, with nothing interesting to climb or explore, offer tedious fetch-quest sidequests, and turn the 100% quest into a grind. I really just didn't care to talk to these NPC's or solve their problems. This was handled far better in Rise and it's undermined by the weak level design. Especially if you're a completionist, you'll come to despise this game's main village, as it contains about 50% of the game's optional content but is the least interesting area to play in the entire series.

    So throw all that together. Shadow of the Tomb Raider doesn't do much new, and what it does do differently usually undermines some other aspect of the game. With this one, it really felt like they were trying to make the game realistic, more like a full open-world sandbox game, and more like Uncharted, all of which are at odds with what I love about this Tomb Raider series. Again, only play this if you've played the first two and want more. I replayed Rise of the Tomb Raider after completing this one and found that it was, in fact, far more enjoyable even the second time through than Shadow is on the first play. It's still a good game overall but pales in comparison to its predecessors. Also, I'd recommend you avoid the game's side content except the tombs. Getting to 100% really eroded this game in my mind.    … Expand

    Yes it is not a huge improvement over their previous games and that's why they did not delay it but still they made some changes here and there which made it an amazing cinematic single player experience!

    You know that Lara existed before Drake, they are both archaeologists searching for treasures,ruins. Of course they have their similarities and yes i am a fan of both games and i still enjoy them!)

    The only thing that i hated was their decision to make the game kinda short (about 12 hours) and make you purchase the Season Pass if you would like more adventures of Lara... Aside from that it deserves every penny, especially if you have an RTX GPU. And believe me, they made a very good job with the performance which makes it run butter smooth!

    I know they did their best to market this game enough with all those trailers but i still think that it could get a bit more recognition from players that enjoy Single Player games...    … Expand

    Having finally the time to finish this trilogy, I can definitely say tha I enjoyed this game, and that I feel glad to have taken the journey beside Lara for all these games. The gameplay is good, the setting looks gorgeaus and the mythology is very interesting. But all in all, I can't give this game more than a Good as an adjective because it really never does anything that surprises me,Having finally the time to finish this trilogy, I can definitely say tha I enjoyed this game, and that I feel glad to have taken the journey beside Lara for all these games.     The game appears to intentionally blend elements from Uncharted 4 and Assassin's Creed Origins, taking inspiration from these titles but falling short in terms of execution. Shadow of the Tomb Raider doesn't excel in any particular aspect, but it still offers an enjoyable experience worth playing, especially if you can overlook the forgettable plot.

    Quite beautiful game with a nice atmosphere.
    Well, the story itself is quite naive, gameplay mechanics are very-very simplified, though done well. It feels like a kids movie a bit. But everything is designed so well, i almost felt like I am really inside the jungles. And there definetely is a sence of adventure!

    The whole series lack good characters (the only one being Jesus from Rise) which makes Tomb Raider look like a weak alternative to Uncharted.
    I'm glad journos (except for Lucy the virgin-shamer) finally realised these games are not extraordinary in any way and lowered their scores from 9/10 to 7/10.

    The gameplay is exactly what you would expect from the new Tomb Raider series. You have a dash of survival with crafting, and a little exploration mixed in. The level up system seemed more useless now then ever before. I never felt like I got a new ability or was stronger in any way. Shadow also threw in a stealth only section that was infuriating, both as a mechanic and logic wise. In the stealth section you are killing guys with guns only using a knife. Not once can you pick up a weapon and shoot back. There isn't any story reason for this it was just to make you be stealthy. The high notes of the game were in the first hour. I was so excited for what was to come playing the beginning. Unfortunately Tomb Raider blows its load and actually doesn't pick up again towards the end.

    The story was boring. The villain didn't have a good plan at all, and Lara seemed like she was going to go through a deep character change, but then she was over it fairly quick. The side characters along Lara are so bland they needed to have someone with some charisma in this game to make it a tad more interesting. Lastly the hell with the ending they try and pull the rug over your head and it is so played out you aren't remotely surprised by the outcome.

    Overall Shadow of the Tomb Raider has a bland story with decent gameplay. The gameplay does get a bit stale due to the lack of blockbuster set pieces and enemy types. If you are a fan of the series give it a shot just don't buy it new. Wait for a sale on Amazon, or Gamestop it will be worth a BARGAIN BIN price.    … Expand

    Nice finish to something that I hope is staying a trilogy. A bit more openness to the world with a lot more sidekicks, nice visuals, but nothing extraordinary that we haven't seen before in the two Tomb Raiders before this. Finally a good female protagonist that's not just there to suck up to feminists or to wank off misogynists.

The setting was great and I loved being able to have characters speak in native languages. However, the number of challenges, side missions, and combat (Why am I spending money and resources on weapons I'll never use!) seem to be lacking. Lara's hints during puzzles on Normal mode were excruciating - (YES LARA, I KNOW YOU NEED TO GET TO MIRROR 3, I'M JUST EXPLORING) but I didn't want to change the difficulty because I want to get all the achievements for the different difficulty. It seems excessive. I also hated the water caverns (so anxiety inducing!) but I know that is a nitpicky thing and I'm not letting that affect my score.

    Overall it is a fun action adventure game. I liked it! I enjoyed myself while playing it! But it is not free of criticism and problems.    … Expand

The game attempts to be profound in this way; it asks of us: “What is the human cost of all these tombs you’re raiding? An excellent question, and one you can seemingly ponder while recklessly raiding more tombs. This nonsensical approach to the story and its themes is replicated in many of Shadow of the Tomb Raider’s plot points, to the extent that it gets noticeable for someone even vaguely following the story. It can be frustrating.

    For all that, the story does have a fantastic setting. The Peruvian Jungle teems with life and the first few hours exploring it is a joy. There are intermittent settlements as well, and one of these is perhaps the single most beautiful setting in any Tomb Raider to date, the city of Paititi. These settlements add a new element to the games, which is the RPG style side-quests that you can undertake by interacting with the residents. Sadly, these are usually dull affairs that fail to utilise the lore and to set to its real potential. It also seems like the developers wanted to reduce the number of human enemies this time around, and there are far less shooting, maiming and general carnage to be done on this outing.

    The best adventures await you in the tombs, and the game does shine in this respect. The new challenge tombs are creative, challenging and have enough variety to stay interesting. Playing the game on the harder difficulties, as I was, the clues were not available, and a few tombs took me back to the old Tomb Raiding days of being ‘stuck.’ I never knew how much I missed it. On familiarity, Shadow brings back the skill trees, the campfires and the weapon upgrades. Nothing about it has changed enough to warrant mention, except for the fact that this third instalment has lost a lot of its ‘survivor,’ feel. You will never really feel in any danger in this game. Supplies are so abundant as to make it feel redundant as a feature. This feeling is made more apparent by the caches and treasure troves that usually reward you with yet more supplies you are not using.

    Completionists among you will be busy. There are ridiculous amounts of collectables and documents that delve into the lore of both the Maya and the Inca. Some of the artefacts are genuinely interesting, and avid readers may be able to reconcile themselves with the developers by filling some of the story’s vagueness with the descriptions therein (though I was not). The trophies are a mixed bunch that encourage you to play the full game for your platinum but are not overly burdensome.

    Overall, I do recommend this game. It is an underwhelming end, but to a journey that I enjoyed and felt compelled to finish. If you have played the other two, this is a must.    … Expand

    As someone who love the Tomb Raider franchise, I'm a little disappointed with this one. Besides the story I really liked, the combat is missing, it's almost a explorable open world with 2-3 fights to get you some action, but that's it. The trilogy comes to an end and still glad I had the pleasure to play, but this is my last favorite.

While I believe the first one was the best, this game is about the same as Rise of the Tomb Raider. One of the major problems i had with the game was the lip syncing and voices. You can change in the settings whether you want everyone to speak English or have NativesPlayed the game on PS4 Pro. If you loved the two prior Tomb Raider games then you'll like this one.     Gameplay? As much as you can expect from the previous 2 Tomb Raiders, the same great platforming, puzzle-solving and combat mechanics are brought in and fine tuned in this last installment. Platforming is still awesome due to the fact that they have indeed improved Lara's animations. She glides, swims, rappels with great ease and you feel great controlling her due to the fluid controls. Combat has been put to the backseat in this installment, and it's not a bad thing. The only issue I have is the stealth kills could be more violent and impactful. Tomb exploring has been put into more emphasis now. And you will be invested in alot of it due to its great design.

    Graphics? Great, very impressive. The environments have been vastly improved. Foliage,dirt,mud,surfaces and lighting has been improved. I played on very high graphical settings and its just a visual bliss. SOTTR world and its tombs is a great time to spend time in.

    Story? Mediocre to be honest. Crystal Dynamic opted for a "apocalypse is imminent and we must stop it" thrope and its not exactly the most compelling story arc to be invested in. I do enjoy the flashback segment and also more character development for Lara.

    Overall, Crystal Dynamics played it safe, and well. Not taking to much risks but also not exactly innovating. Its no Uncharted 4. But for a Tomb Raider game, its great and a blast to play. A solid 7.8!    … Expand

    This is not what I espect after rise of the tomb raider...I loved the new gameplay ideas and some fun action scenes but this weak story telling about Lara Craft was total clashed and again new place again new treasure hunting...come on guys you can do so much better

Imagine if you paid to go to an escape room and then when you was in there someone over an intercom was like the key is in this box, that opens this door which gives you a combination to... You would want your money back. Well some goes for a puzzle game. Maybe have an option to disable it. Ive turned off Tutorial hints but she still keeps opening her mouth when I am trying to think.
    The shooting in this game in minuscule and I could probably complete the game without even using a gun or bow in combat scenarios. Also when I use survival instinct can Lara shut the hell up. She keeps repeating herself like a broken record and its annoying as hell. Maybe she should only repeat it once every 5 minutes and not everytime I press the button. I found myself muting my TV until the puzzle was finished. The graphics in this game slightly improved from previous games which is nice. The attention to detail in these games has been under whelming. Things are just rushed and made to work but closer details are left untouched which is a huge shame as I think it would part really well in a game with such a nice atmosphere. Just small things like when climbing if you left marks in the rocks where you climbing axe had penetrated the wall, when tying a rope if there was an actual knot rather then a rope rapped around something just appears, skinning an animal actual leaves a skinned carcass (They already have the texture for this aswell because you see them in wolf dens of previous games), Or the worst one yet when you fire an arrow into something there is no arrow left stuck where you shot it? Like seriously if I fire an arrow into wood why can't I see the arrow. Its things like this that make a game feel real and when they are not present it really does let the game down.
    Way to many collectables. The hole point in collectables is the are more fun to collect when they are rare. In this game they are found everywhere and I mean everything. Sometimes in a single building there is 2 or 3. At this point they are just a nuisance and if I spent time reading them all then this would take 2 maybe 3 times as long to complete the game so most people like myself will not bother reading them making it a waste of time adding them to the game. Maybe the time you wasted making these collectables could have been spent adding extra attention to the details of this game???
    The story isn't terrible but it could be better. I found it generic and more of a placeholder just so you could sell the game with a story rather then just be a series of levels and tombs.
    I seriously hope Tomb Raider 2 they do a huge over haul and ditch this basic crap. I mite sound a bit harsh but a company this size can do much better. They are rushing games out left right and centre to make quick cash. What they don't realize is that if they spent time perfecting less games then these would be far more popular and make more money. 1 great game is better then 2 rushed small games. In 12 years they made 9 tomb raider games. Wouldn't it be better if they made less but those were amazing games instead?

    The story is quite nonsensical, similarly to the previous games it's just another adventure, but I enjoyed the dark atmosphere, and there are some scary moments which actually creeped me out.

    The puzzles are even better than before, and the game mostly focuses on raiding tombs instead of fighting hordes of enemies. There are also actual side quests you can do, which aren't anything special but they're a welcome addition.

    And lastly, this game contains the single best moment in the entire trilogy in my opinion, Lara Croft's development really shows here, and yet again, she is the star of the show.

    Overall, I think I prefer this game more than the first game (Rise is still my favorite one though), I like how the trilogy ends, it could have been better but still, the game has some very strong moments, its highs are pretty high, but sadly the lack of innovation is disappointing.

    The gameplay is the same as in the other series, but there is one annoying detail: Lara Croft walks slowly when talking on the walkie-talkie or talking to someone, and this slows down the game.

    I’ve played this game a million times before. Can we move on to new experiences please? And there is nothing that takes you out of the game more than having to repeat encounters where you failed to grab a specific ledge or whatever and fell to your death. I tried it out via PlayStation Now but deleted it after the tsunami scene. Did I mention that I’ve played this game before?

Game-play is your classic third-person stealth action.     A great example of wasted potential is the unlockable ability of simultaneously hitting three marked targets with silent arrows. You might imaging perching above a group of enemies, strategically picking your three targets, and winnowing down the enemy numbers three at a time. You will rarely if ever have that opportunity. Enemies are sparse. Enemies wear helmets which have to be knocked off like some kind of Mario game. Lara Croft can always resort to mowing down enemies with a machine gun.

    This iteration of the Croft saga adds an additional stealth tactic, covering Lara with mud and hiding her in a wall of vegetation. Lara can wait for enemies to walk by and stealth kill them one by one. While it is nice to have options, the level design takes this to the extreme. Areas will have too many enemies clustered together to take them out silently. Or areas will have the other extreme of all enemies with their back to Lara and taking them it is as easy as moving forward. Each area is also quite small, as if we are still in the PS3/Xbox 360 era. This game would have sung as a true open world with roving squads of threats to avoid.

    Crafting and hunting are back for better or worse. Unlike “Rise of the Tomb Raider”, the trees look like trees, so there’s an improvement. Hunting wild animals is more of side show. Lara can buy animal hides at vendors and certain abilities abrogate the need for animal hides. (Why does Lara even need a particular animal hide to make wrap for her pistol handle?) The first craftable outfit has so much more utility than all the other that I had Lara wear it for the entire game. Some of the most important items in the game have to be bought from a vendor, assuming you have Lara find that vendor.

    The star of the game should be the tombs. You know, tombs for raiding. The “Tomb Raider” reboot had some ingenious puzzles. “Rise of the Tomb Raider” had two few puzzles, with some of the best coming from DLC packs. (Thank you PS+ for the 25th Anniversary collection.) The tombs in “Shadow of the Tomb Raider” are a shadow of their former selves. The visual design is outstanding. Square Enix has great artists. The execution is terrible. Unlike physics based or knowledge based puzzles, the puzzles in “Shadow of the Tomb Raider” make no sense. I simply ran through them and pushed every lever I saw. The tombs were a bigger letdown than the combat.

    Lastly, the story is just awful and I hated almost everything the characters had to say. If you despise cutscenes that make a mockery of player effort, then get ready to hit the skip button. If you can’t stand having the protagonist yell for no reason, then get ready to hit the skip button. If you don’t want to hear an isolated tribe in the Amazon jungle speak perfect English, smash that skip button. The evil archeologists from “Rise of the Tomb Raider” return like Spectre in a Bond film. I still have no idea what their purpose is. Step one, get powerful world changing artifact. Step three, profit. Meanwhile, Lara is running around, ex-aspirated, and yelling at everyone. The effort that was put into the backstory of each artifact needed to find its way into the main story. Or maybe the writing team was trying to hard. Perhaps my gripes are borne from comparisons to the Uncharted series. The team at Naughty Dog makes good dialogue look easy. Maybe Xbox players will rate Tomb Raider higher because they don’t know what they are missing.

    Full disclosure, I played this game as a PS+ “free” game on a PS5. Square Enix optimized this PS4 game for next gen, and I enjoyed 4K at 60fps with improved load times on PS5. Even with all that, ”Shadow of the Tomb Raider” is no “Uncharted 4”, but it was a big improvement over “Rise of the Tomb Raider”.

    All in all, my 12-14 hour adventure had a few good moments. I enjoyed the setting and seeing an Aztec village in action. Ultimately, Square Enix needs to put more effort into their games. If they ever bring Lara back, do right by this character.    … Expand

At the beginning of the game you get a automatic rifle combined with the bow you don't need any upgrades to progress. You do the rest of the game just for the achievements and not much more of a reason.

    Decently fun game but it won't glue you to the monitor from start to end. NOTE: I finished the main story on normal difficulty with a 100% which wasn't that hard to achieve. There weren't that many collectibles.    … Expand

    Also Lara is like a superhuman, even if a jaguar **** her back she is like "only a scratch, no real deal".
    Also Jonah... An unnecessary character like in RotTR.

    -World: beautifull I have to say.

    -Combat: the combat in this new trilogy has evolved practically nothing. Same animations, same moves, same weapons, same enemies. In addition on this game there are significally less combat than in the previous two, why?

    -Conclusion: a huge dissapointment and a bitter ending to a trilogy than looked promissing.    … Expand

    There were some pretty cool moments in this one, but overall i felt this entry was just not nearly as good as the other two (especially the first). I've also played every Uncharted game, and this doesn't come close to any of those either. The story/writing/characters just feel bland and is missing the soul of those games.

    Mediocre. As much as I liked the secret tombs scavenging and the intro of the game in general, the plot proved to be weak, alot of clunky aniamtions, ugly npc with even worse facial animations not to mention a terribly cliche final battle. Next time give script writing to someone else.

    A painfully average game. This reboot franchise already wasn't taking any risks, but this one is even more tamer somehow. It's enjoyable at points, but utterly replaceable and forgettable. I have trouble remembering the main story already. Honestly, this one is like a microwave burger. You would never choose it, but if you're really hungry, it'll do.

    This game, quite honestly, just looked like a reskin of Rise of the Tomb Raider, doing more of the same from the last installment. Also, on side quests, Lara looks quite inanimate in the dialogues. But, there are definitely positives. The puzzles are once again stimulating and the third person combat is fairly fluid.

    If you have played the previous two Tomb Raider then there is nothing new here other than location and Story. Everything else is same, tombs are equipment locked,if you dont own it you cant go ahead. Same set of skills to upgrade again. Same set of bonfire to upgrade and fast travel.

I think this is a thing with Japanese produced game, especially like Square who is a pioneer in making fantasy worlds. They have a hard time creating something authentic on that real level.
    2: The game plays too nice to you. Its rolling out the red carpet for you and off you go. The game pretty much TELLS you constantly where to go, what to do, and what to press. Just dont bother playing this game on easy, because it is. Crank that difficulty up from the start
    3: In terms of content, new features and other stuff, it has little. It borrows so much from the previous two games that it is scary. This game is falling hard into the Ubisoft/ Assassins Creed franchise where things are much of the same, just different packaged together.
    The Instincts feature should have been removed. I think i pressed L3 about fifty thousand times while playing this trough. You get that dependent on it that you feel like cheating each time you press that L3. It totally breaks fluidity of the game and you get too addictive to use it..
    4: Like the locations. The story also feels distant. And is not really that interesting. Come on, you enter a populated hidden city deep in the bush and everybody speaks perfect english? I lived in South America for a year and i met two people who could speak english.
    5 Luckily this is the final game in this trilogy that wraps up the early years of Lara´s career. It needs to end now!

    So what is good?
    Well, graphics are gorgeous, and there finally is more Tombs to raid, But boy do the rewards really sucks. but none of them are that challenging really. I always wanted this game to pay some more focus to what Lara is known for and that is raiding tombs.. I get it, 3 games in and Lara is starting to find her inner self rather thank ancient artifacts, Tomb Raider.. It is the title of the damn game anyway.
    Controls are good, Maybe too much auto assisted.

    Overall, i think this game needs a new direction, possibly a new developer. I think Square has exhausted this franchise enough.. Square Enix, who is known for RPG and Fantasy games, has a hard time authenticating this franchise. To me all three games has provided me with plenty adventure, but i feel that they all are set in a world i have a hard time to feel and attach myself too.
    After three games in, they have not developed so much in terms of new features, movements, design, story and gameplay. It feels rehashed now and its time to end it. Pass on the torch and start something else.

    yes, this game is beautiful, but I never felt any empathy for characters, they sound and act superficial and artificial. The difficulty is stupidly bad managed on some scenes like the first "arena" with Yaaxil. When on hard mode you have good chances to be taken down within 2 seconds after the begining of the scene...
    Maps are almost small and the corridor effect is quite strong.

    I'm completely fine with the story, the main problem imho. is the outdated gameplay. Climbing feels as clumsy as it felt back in Tomb Raider Legends, Enemy Paths are clearly scripted and the Stealth Mechanics are way too basic. The Worst part about the Gameplay is probably the Close Combat System, it only requires random Button Mashing instead of quick reflexes and seems to be a bit buggy. I often punched my way through several enemies without even dodging once.

    I guess the game has a good amount of content but it just didn't manage to keep me interested long enough to play through the additional tombs and side Missions.

    It's a pretty average Game overall but it just reminded me too often that i'd be better off playing Uncharted 4 instead, which is the better game in pretty much every aspect.    … Expand

    Um bom jogo, mas entediante. Tem gráficos bonitos, mas um péssimo sistema de evolução e batalha, quanto a exploração, não foi tudo isso que eu imaginava. Venderam que seria um jogo muito maior, mas senti que foi menor e mais raso do que o jogo anterior.

I found the world to be beautiful, the initial exploration alone with Lara to be enjoyable and refreshing. The beginning of the game is very dramatic and exciting when Lara takes the dagger, though it felt a bitI finished playing this game a few months ago and I still feel disapointed with this final part of the trilogy. As a die hard tomb raider fan I really wanted to love this game. I found the world to be beautiful, the initial exploration alone with Lara to be enjoyable and refreshing. The beginning of the game is very dramatic and exciting when Lara takes the dagger, though it felt a bit rushed and left me with questions and wanting more context and back up story. My enthusiasm for the game started to diminish around the halfway point and just decline all the way to the end until I just wanted the game to be over already. So much towards the end was very boring, and the story was not that interesting. It felt kind of like wild goose chase at times and sloppy. The villages were boring and they reused the same character models for most of the villagers. The side quests in the villages were excruciatingly tiresome. It was definitely dark, Laras mood was dark, parts of the game were like a horror nightmare which imo was too much. I miss playing as Lara who is confident and fun. I miss being alone with Lara and vast places to explore where there’s not so many people and not so much talking. If you talk to a villager in this game it can feel like they go on for 5 excruciating minutes.... not interested! Theres nothing really to explore here either. Even on the highest difficulty its not hard to see where to go and almost impossible to get lost or wonder where to go. I only got stuck on one puzzle, and remember only one other puzzle being pretty amazing, most of them were too easy, didn’t even have to really think about what to do most of the time. I miss having to really use my noggin to figure out where to go and what to do with Lara! One really nice part was playing with young Lara, its really the only part of the game where you see a different side of Lara before the end of the game. It is my hope that coming out of this adventure Lara becomes the old Lara we all remember and love. If theres any redemption out of this dark painful story hopefully there will be a new series for Lara that will do the Tomb Raider franchise justice. Out of the 3 games in the reboot this one is definitely the weakest, and though I see what they were aiming for in growing Lara through a difficult time it was not very enjoyable to play as this tormented confused and struggling Lara. In this game Lara is a cold hearted killing machine, and at times feels more like a villain than a hero. After playing and enjoying the first 2 games of the franchise very much I was super excited for the 3rd game. Overall dissapointed.… Expand

    The story is much less intriguing compared to first two installments. Gameplay is more or less the same and adds nothing much. The setting is not very impressive and the atmosphere is lacking. Climbing mechanics don't feel tight enough and sometimes you end up with awkward camera angles which force you to take a guess at where you should be going. Combat is fairly rare which is good because the mechanics don't exactly feel great, a bit too floaty on consoles. Graphically the game holds up well, but once again - never really impresses. I did have odd lip sync problems and some fps drops but nothing too jarring.
    The torture porn aspect of the game however is too much - it's funny when it happens to someone like Nathan Drake but when it's Lara you just feel bad - her character is written in a way that makes these situations feel like she is constantly being beaten down by everything around her.

    Storywise Shadow Of The Tomb Raider ends up being derivative and unmemorable. It never presents us with anything new or interesting. You just go through the motions of a cliche "stop the prophecy" storyline. You can tell what's going to happen every step of the way and the ending fails to serve up any real closure for this part of Laras life. The only reason to keep going is because the protagonist is fairly sympathetic and you want to go on with the journey for her sake.

    Esta tercera entrega de la saga literalmente perjudica a la saga entera. Las mecánicas son prácticamente idénticas a las entregas anteriores, la historia pudiendo ser interesante esta mal contada y de una manera absurda. Como mínimo es entretenido mi nota un 6.

    the story is a mess. control is okay. most of the time you are just climbing and jumping around and doing fx#$ all. try uncharted 1, 2, 4 and the standalone dlc, they are much much better in story telling.

    This was so bad than the other tomb raider games. I feel like the first tomb raider was genuinely awesome. Rise of the tomb raider was the best in terms of both the graphics and gameplay. Shadow felt terrible tho the visuals and environment aren't bad but the story seemed less interesting and it was too short and lacked a lot of stuffs than the other two tomb raider games.     Shadow of the Tomb Raider should leave us wanting more from the rebooted Lara Croft game, but with some clunky controls and a lazy combat system, what saves the game from being below average are beautiful visuals, fantastic puzzles and tomb layouts along with true adventuring. It’s as mixed up of a bag as one can get.
