Recommended for fans of the genre. Despite several flaws, I enjoy it quite a bit with a wheel. But you really need to be willing to look past the aged graphics and sounds.
I'd give this a 7 if it were not for the Day 1 paid DLC. This practice needs to stop ASAP.
+ Extensive career mode + Sim approach with proper narrow rally tracks + Overall fun factor - Uninspired career mode

    + Extensive career mode
+ Sim approach with proper narrow rally tracks
    + Overall fun factor

    - Uninspired career mode approach (basically a copy-paste from Ride) with meaningless "ranking"
    - Too many "mission type" events while having not enough proper multistage rallies
    - Last gen graphics and sounds
    - 30fps and still occasional framedrops
    - Some handling bugs and absent wheel weight on some cars
    - Day 1 paid DLC

I really, really, REALLY wanted to like this game. I am a HUGE fan of Rally games and have been waiting a long time for a good one on the PS4. Something to use the potential of the next gen console and immerse me in the game.

Sadly, I will be waiting a while longer yet. This is the only game I've bought digitally (I was too lazy to go to Tesco to buy it on disc) and also the first game

Sadly, I will be waiting a while longer yet. This is the only game I've bought digitally (I was too lazy to go to Tesco to buy it on disc) and also the first game I've ever asked for a refund on. Having spent £67 on the bundle pack (Pikes Peak), I was left confused and ultimately, disappointed.

    Pros:

A good selection of cars from across the decades. Nice to see some rarer models in there, such as the Pug 106 Rallye, Super 1600 cars and the Lancia Delta integrale 8v (everyone else seems to go for the Evoluzione).

Some nice stages. The rally of Wales really looks the part!

Rallycross. A criminally overlooked area of Motorsport when it comes to gaming.

A reasonable attempt to replicate driving on snow, ice, tarmac and gravel.

    Cons:

Graphics. Next gen? Really? Some of the scenery looks like its fit for the PS2, never mind the PS4. Why do developers INSIST on small trees being as solid as steel poles? If I spin off, let me demolish some scenery for gods sake. Oh and having the ability to get stuck ON the scenery is not cool. I played the Leob challenge stages in the Saxo kit car, spun at the last hairpin and ended up marooned on the scenery. Having turned the rewind function off, that was it. Stuck for good.

In car views: In an era where other developers are using helmet cam views (which I don't like btw) and fully modeled interiors (Project cars for both), why has Milestone limited us to two dash views and the ability to look 4 degrees left or right? I felt like I'd gone back in time five years. Ok, so the exterior view are good, but I don't want an exterior view in a rally game.

Car damage: Laughable. After dinging a few barriers and trees (who doesn't in a rally game), I crossed the line with the front bumper looking like it had melted. When cars crash or hit things, bits fall off, they don't just change shape. Even a non dedicated driving game can get this right. Look at the car damage in Gta V for example.

Controls: Its 2016 and I can't activate the lights or wipers myself???? And when the wipers do activate, there are no blades on them, just the arms??

Pace notes: I noticed quite a few wrong calls in this game. Luckily I was driving with the 3d notes enabled, but it was still bad to hear a left called, when it was actually a right.

As I said, I really really wanted to like this game, but I can't. Over the years I've played a lot of rally games and I'm still waiting for that one that defines the era of that console. On the PS1 and 2 we had the Colin McRae games, then the dirt series on the PS3. For me, SLR Evo will be a middling attempt on the Ps4.

No amount of content will get away from the fact that this game seems half finished. Sorry Milestone, but you've missed a trick here.

Good game overall. At first I wanted to rate it 1/10. After a while, I thought 5/10. I finally give it the final score of 7/10.

You should know that different cars feel different here. I hated the car they give you at first, but after getting more decent cars the experience improved. If you're new to the genre, know that most of the game is a "time attack" sort of thing, you don't

If you're new to the genre, know that most of the game is a "time attack" sort of thing, you don't see your opponents while racing, ultimately you should just beat the time. This "AI" time is inconsistent. In one race I get the gold medal, in the next one I get the last place. There is no "learning" involved, the times are just off. This seriously undermines the fun to be had.

There are still a few other modes, namely rallycross and elimination, but they are few.

In general the game is tough on easy difficulty. For comparison, I beat Ride 2 and stood on the peak of world standing without much trouble on easy difficulty.

If you get the game, make sure you don't throw it until you try the Loeb experience. With the interviews with Loeb and the different cars they give you to try (and unlock), it was a great experience (even if I only beat about half the events so far).

I recommend the game on deep sale.

Sebastien Loeb Rally EVO is a solid racing game that offers a mostly basic racing experience with a few unique twists.

Sébastien Loeb Rally Evo is a pretty good racing game with a lot of good ideas. If you are a fan of this sport, you should give it a try.

Sebastien Loeb’s Rally EVO is a decent enough rally game that shows off high production value here and there, but unfortunately not in its visual fidelity.
