I missed out on the original release of Scott Pilgrim vs, The World : The Game on ps3, 360 and pc.. but i did at least catch the demo to it back then and thought it was fun.. which made the fact that it was delisted even more annoying.. now that i've had the chance to dive into the PS4 version of the rerelease, I have to say... it's.. decent but flawed. The game has you going through side scrolling stages and is reminiscent of games like Double Dragon or Streets of Rage fight punching and kicking enemies, collecting coins from the defeated foes as well as leveling up with slight RPG mechanics... The pixel art visuals still look quite good in the rerelease, and having it include the dlc is nice as is the low price of $15... but it suffers from things like stiff movement which allows enemies to get hits on you too easily, the effects audio( attack sounds) being somewhat muffled under the music (even with music turned way down, the attack sounds are just too low) and worse, the extreme difficulty.. it's not a game for someone that gets easily frustrated by cheap deaths caused by unblockable attacks, long enemies attack combos, overly strong bosses and no mid stage checkmarks... and the fact that you have to repeatedly die and use the picked up cash to level up your stats, go through lose all your lives again and repeats till you can level up enough to be effective feels cheap and unnecessarily padded.... it's not a terrible game by any means.. but it is harder then it needs to be (even if you cheat to have power of love sword at start of every stage).. so be warned before playing . This game does not feel as intuitive as a beat em up should. The controls are very clunky and never really make you feel like you're in full control of your character. More often than not instead of having the satisfaction of Mashing Square to beat people up I find myself having to block for 8 seconds before finding an opening, dodging to another plain, then finding a spot to attack. It is OVERWHELMINGLY unfair at many points. You will find guys charging in from absolutely nowhere and knocking out 15 or more of your health immediately. How is that even close to fair? Oh by the way, your progress only carries over for the character you play with. I'm surprised it carries over at all, this game is so heavily against you.
Some Pros: The Music, the Artwork, the Animations, and that's about it. Play this with another person if you want to have any sort of chance at winning a level.

This game has absolutely nothing going for it beyond the amazing art style and OST.

The movement is clunky. Id go as far as to say streets of rage on the genesis had more intuitive controls. The combat is terrible, it quickly becomes a game of “stun lock before you can be stun locked”, you cant block cancel while you're being stun locked, and enemies can often break out of your stun

The combat is terrible, it quickly becomes a game of “stun lock before you can be stun locked”, you cant block cancel while you're being stun locked, and enemies can often break out of your stun lock. The enemies are much faster than you in term of movement and attack speed and can easily insta-kill you before you even know whats going on.

The game only becomes somewhat playable when you buy permanent upgrades like the bionic arms and speed upgrade, and they aren't bloody cheap.

The last issue is the enemy count. Its blatantly designed for4 layers, enemies do not scale down for 2 players. You’ll often be surrounded by enemies to the point that getting hit once means being infinitely knocked down till you die.

Honestly this game is an embarrassment and a waste of 20$. Go pick up Streets of Rage 4 instead.

SPVTW:TG is a great game and a homage to the whole game scenery in general, a full basket of easter eggs and references (just like the comic and the movie).
There are several criticism here about this game (some are correct) so I will try to help you if you should buy this game or not.

First of all, this is a beat'em up, so I assume you're a fan of the genre. Secondly, it's about the Scott Pilgrim Universe so of course you'll enjoy it 1000 times more if you're already a fan.

And lastly, the whole gameplay is based/inspired by NES' River City Ransom (RCR). Everything. You have stat upgrades through shopping and items, heavy "weapon" usage and overwhelming enemy count and behavior. Controllers are also almost the same as RCR (a little frustrating as well). FOR ME its not an issue, I think controlling your character is really nice. If you're struggling and getting your ass handed to you, either level up a little more (you unlock new moves by leveling up) or spend your money on useful food (some only restores HP while others permanently raises your stats).

    That said:
    PROS:
    - REALLY awesome music by Anamanaguchi
    - Graphics
    - 4 player
    - Really nice story and very faithful to the comics if your're a fan
    - Enjoyable even if your're not a SP fan

    CONS:
    - It is, all in all, an unbalanced game. You're very underpowered on the beginning and can be almost a god in the end (it's very satisfiying though)
    - Gameplay wise, you're knocked down a lot and it's very annoying. Everytime you're knocked down it takes 2, 3 seconds to stand up. To be knocked down again. Later in the game you get a move to "cancel" knocking while falling but still annoys me.
    - There is a nasty bug (ps4pro and ps5) game freezing on the end of stage 3. Ubisoft didnt fix this yet. Solution: scale down resolution to 720p on your system settings.
    - Requires a little bit of grinding if you really wanto to get stronger. By grinding I mean spending 60-90minutes replaying some missions to get money to buy upgrades. It's fun if you're playing with friends, though, and you can also lend money to them to balance things.
    - Shopping is slow and trial and error for stat boosting, you dont know what stat will be enhanced unless you buy it first or look on the internet.
    - Some bugs here and there (nothing major except the Stage 3 but mentioned above)

SPVTW:TG is a GREAT game to play alone or with friends, a basket full of easter eggs and a really great soundtrack to listen to while you fight all 7 stages kicking hipster ass. it is a little unbalanced at first so difficulty can oscilate but if you have grown on the 80s-2000 you are probably accostumed to this kind of gameplay so buy it and enjoy.

El mejor juego beatemup del 2010 ha regresado, la verdad te trae demasiados recuerdos pasar una tarde con tus amigos después del colegio jugando hasta el cansancio.

i really liked the game. The stages are really similar to the movie scenarios and the soundtrack is really good. The only problem are the controlers, that are really bad. While playing I usely pick up something on the ground while beating someone.

In just four hours you're all set, but thanks to the multiplayer mode you can easily add several more hours. For less than 15 euros you can't expect an absolute masterpiece, but you get some carefree entertainment that will catapult you back to the 90s.

While the complete edition is a fun blast from the past Scott Pilgrim vs The World The Game it is just that. It's a game from a different time that has some trouble keeping up with the new games in town. The addition of an online co-op is nice though.

Scott Pilgrim vs the World: The Game is amongst the best that the beat em’ up genre has to offer. The game feels like one of the few purely-good entertainment that this volcanic eruption of a planet we reside on has to offer.
