Scarlet Nexus is the fresh, new Action JRPG that gamers weary of the “Tales of” series formula have been needing to see from Bandai Namco for a while now, and it shines especially bright on next gen consoles.

From the music to the visuals, from the gameplay to the story, this game packs quite the punch. Scarlet Nexus is a game that has definitely had a lot of love put into it. It isn’t some kind of one-and-done, generic feeling hack and slash game that people vaguely remember six months after launch. It’s a game that deserves the attention from people who like anime games and those on the fence about it.

Even using the more simplified combat system the game is a blast to play and ultimately tells a really compelling story all in a beautifully done in Japanese anime style.

Scarlet Nexus is one of the most surprising releases of the year for me thanks to a bombastic combat style and storytelling. I enjoyed my time in the OSF and look forward to flinging more big rigs into unsuspecting enemies soon.

Scarlet Nexus is an easy recommendation for anyone looking for an exciting action RPG. Though the narrative is varied in its effectiveness, it still complements the rest of the game effectively. Dazzlingly stylish with a superb combat system, Scarlet Nexus is a memorable new title that is huge fun to play throughout. As a new IP, Scarlet Nexus should be considered a great success with lots of potential going forward.

A supremely playable action JRPG, which marries gorgeous anime visuals with satisfyingly original real-time combat.

The game combines a good combat system, an extensive deep storyline, and nice graphics. The interactions between the protagonists and the world look believable, and you can tell that developers have a lot of love for characters and the world of Scarlet Nexus.

Overall, Scarlet Nexus is a simple, yet great and enjoyable experience for any fan of the genre out there. You hunt monsters, make yourself and your allies stronger, gather resources for making new cosmetics and gear, constantly unlock new features for inside and outside of combat, all that while you watch an interesting story materialize in front of your eyes. It really is a modernized, old-school adventure which will satisfy anyone, even with the few drawbacks it has and the rather slow beginning.

Scarlet Nexus is the sort of game where not only will its combat sell it, but the story and spoilers packed into it will too. It is a title where I was constantly thrown by elements. Sometimes it was an exceptionally clever application of a power. It could be a great enemy design. Or maybe a twist would get me. Even when I wasn’t exactly thrilled with how something might work, I found myself wanting to talk about it.

Scarlet Nexus succeeds largely on the back of its engaging gameplay. Bandai Namco have crafted an excellent combat engine that lets you run wild with power. The characters could have used some sprucing up, and the repetition of the environments is disappointing, but the framework of a future franchise is here.

While there are gameplay hiccups and under-utilized systems, Scarlet Nexus has enough exciting combat and brain-twisting story to find its audience, and deliver major fun for those who enjoy its acquired taste.

Scarlet Nexus boasts a story that is impossible not to recommend. Bandai Namco has created a truly intriguing world that, even after completing the game, has me yearning for more. The option of playing the second main character, which boasts a different story direction, would be the perfect remedy if not for the other areas of the game falling short. Repetitive mechanics and frustrating combat design hamper what could otherwise be an incredible adventure.

Scarlet Nexus takes you into the world of Brainpunk, a new kind of genre.

The story is about a group of elite soldiers "OSF" and begins in the state named New Himuka. These soldiers use their brain in order to use different kind of abilities like psychokinese, teleportation, duplication and fire- or thunderattacks etc.
At first, the enemies are aliens who will be called as "the others" whose origin is unknown. In the middle of the story you will recognise that the story line is getting deeper and opens many strings that arise a lot of interesting questions for you.
The elite soldiers also open up their own story which gives you a certain glimpse of how the world of brainpunk works.

The world you visit takes always place in different kind of areas like cities, museums, hospitals, mountains. Because of this variety you always see something else so that you are never get bored.
The places are also influenced by the mechanics of the brainpunk what gives an astonishing view.

The characters you will get to know have all different personalities what makes it curious. They make a liviing impression with their own hobbies, worries, sorrows. And now it gets more interesting: It is possible to build a friendship between the soldiers by talking to them, give them gifts and accompany them through the city. The more you work with them, the more they will be effective in the battle.

Connected to this point, your group has a hideout where they live in a shared apartment. Either they train, make dishes and cook, sleep, massage themselves or take care of the flowers. At the beginning, the hideout looks empty but with the gifts they receive from you, the apartment is getting more and more living.

The Fighting is something very unique: You can choose a katana and combine the katana techniques with the brainpunk abilities which will be given from your comrades. That way, you can fight with your own individual style without sticking to any pattern. In every mission you can use the environment by using stones, cars etc. and throw them to the enemy. And now the interesting part comes up: If you use your environment, you can still control the objects that you move with psychokinese by using the thumbsticks and keys. This creates a cinematic firework.

The character has a Skilltree called Brainmap where you can choose the improvements. Besides, the classical Levelsystem is also integrated. The characters can be customized with clothes etc..

Between the missions there is a standby-phase where you can take a break from the battles. In this phase you can communicate with your comrades where you have the chance to get to know them better. You can also take a walk in the cities and enjoy the views. It is also possible to take sidequests from the citizens.

Scarlet Nexus also has their own Anime Episodes which is connected to the story itself. In Scarlet Nexus you will meet a woman who asks you to investigate a case. You need certain codes which are hidden in the anime episdes. You have to find these codes in the episodes and give them to the woman. This kind of connection makes Scarlet Nexus more wide open and doesn't limit it to a single medium.

The soundtrack is very well made and fits into the situation. There is nothing to complain about that.

The graphics are well made and reflect the brainbunk-genre very well. The Anime-Style makes a great impression.

The story goes very long and you never get enough of it.

And now lets come to the pros and cons:

    Pros:
    - Great Story
    - Different kind of characters with their own storyline
    - Individual fighting style
    - Great Setting with Brainpunk-genre
    - Great graphics
    - A very good soundtrack
    - Anime episodes

    Cons:
    - Simple Sidequests
    - The gifts cannot be bought in stores in the city. It can only be bought from a single person.

If you wanna support the developers, i recommend to buy it to the full prize so that we can expect a sequel of Scarlet Nexus.

    Hope you enjoy Scarlet Nexus

I really enjoyed the battle system so far and the gameplay. It has some cities to explore and talk to novels and a home area where you can like talk to your friends and build a bond which gives you some abilities kinda similar to persona. This is one of the most satisfying battle systems I played in a jrpg. Story is kinda average though and music. Characters were top notch so far in the game. Also you get to play with a second character which is a bit different adding even more replay value. This game is a must for any jrpg fan. Full Review »

Scarlet Nexus is a wonderful game with infinite combos which leads you to become a master to execute them efficiently. It is difficult to adapt at first but once you learn it is one of the best combat systems you will have tried. Very explosive and looks great. The story, although convoluted in which you can't get lost for a second of the plot, is quite well done. The variety of characters and their abilities are exceptional, with an emphasis on Kagero, Gemma, Hanobi, and Kasane. I also love that there are strong women in the game who are not dependent on what the voice of a man or leader says, unlike the Persona saga, which is excessively submissive and romantic. The bad thing that I find in this game is how heavy the social links were and the somewhat poor and repetitive design of some scenarios. Yuito's story completed in 35 hours, with an intense and emotional ending. Now I'll play Kasane's. The game is worth every euro spent. Full Review »
