Solid gameplay in the vein of classic side scrolling shooters. Interesting gameplay mechanics that provide good learning curve. Beautiful graphics which give a taste of new hardware capabilities. Easily one of the best titles at launch, and free price tag (with PS+) makes it a must play game.

Simple yet entertaining. One of the best features is that voice sounds are played through the controller making it feel like i have a co-pilot giving me directions. Visuals are just stunning coupled with intense music to accompany you through the levels. Of all the games i have, this is the only one i come back to everyday.

So many particle physics to make your head spin, and environments that gradually crumble around you. It is certainly a stress test for the PS4, yet it suffers NO LAG WHATSOEVER.

The only downside to this game is that it can get repetitive rather quickly, and has nothing to really follow on to; no real story, not even really any background information, besides some explanation for some of the levels. A stunning game, and quite a lot of replayability, but repetition feels like it is eating away at the enjoyment in the game, and it would be great to see some variety. But for what it is, a retro style shooter, and what it seems to be, a PS4 tech demo, it plays it's part beautifully. Well worth a buy.

Finally!! A game that takes us back to the days of Super Type-R. The PS4 creates a stunning visual showcase; Resogun's simplicity makes it that much more impressive. With minimal UI, beautiful pixel-style graphics and an amazing soundtrack - this one is a win.

This game is pretty awesome and very different. Since it was a free PlayStation plus game most of the casual gamers have came out of their shells and tried this game, which is pretty awesome. I would say this game is addictive at first, but after a while it gets kind of old. I will still play it once a month or so. If you don't have this game you should probably get it.

I love this game. I keep coming back for more, even if it's only for a few minutes. It's simple and addictive, hard as hell at higher difficulty levels. For me, this is the best launch title for PS4. And it looks fantastic. When you finish a level, the 'Armageddon' sequence will wow you every single time.

While Resogun isn't a AAA game like Killzone: Shadow Fall is, I get just as much enjoyment out of playing Resogun than I would any AAA game.

I don't normally play shoot-em-ups. Those games aren't really my thing. But when you make a SHMUP look THIS pretty, and you give it awesome yet very different ship types and level designs, I can't really help but LOVE this GAME. Sure, it's fun

Sure, it's fun to beat the game once on EASY mode. since all you have to do is beat one level at a time with 3 lives each level. But it's a LOT more fun when you give yourself goals. Like "Beat the whole game on "Veteran" without losing your 3 lives and having to start the level over", or "Beat this level on "Experienced" without dying or losing your multiplier, AND saving all the humans". I do this all the time with Resogun, and without me even knowing it I realized I'm in the TOP 100 on the leaderboards on almost every level. I knew I was pretty good but I didn't know I was TOP 100 good!

I can admit that for SOME people, this game may be a little short. Afterall, some people just like to beat the game and that's it. But honestly, I don't think you beat the game until you beat the game on at least Experienced difficulty without losing your 3 lives. Normally, if you lose your 3 lives by the 3rd level, it'll start you over at the 3rd level with another 3 lives. So I don't think it's fair to say you "Beat" the game if you lose those 3 lives every level.

Resogun might not be for everyone, and it's a little short if you don't at least get 75% of the trophies. But even if YOU don't like it, that don't mean it's a bad game, it's just not your style of game. Because as far as SHMUPS go, this is the absolute BEST there IS to offer, PERIOD! So don't rate it badly just because it's a SHMUP, rate it on how good of a SHMUP it is.

    I can't give Resogun anything less than a 10/10!

Addictive. At first my jury was out because I really didn't get the overall point, but after playing and learning a little more (I watched some live streams to see how people were approaching this one and it helped significantly) I was able to really get into it. Unlike some of these extreme raters on here I won't be giving any 10s or 0s, 1s, 2s just because I did or did not like it so itAddictive. Unlike some of these extreme raters on here I won't be giving any 10s or 0s, 1s, 2s just because I did or did not like it so it will get the highest rating that I will give to a game that isn't life changing or revolutionary.
The basic premise is to get the highest score via staying alive, saving humans by eliminating "keepers" which are enemies that typically appear in groups and only stay on screen for a short time, then collecting those humans before they are killed and returning them to a safe point, all while trying to keep your combo meter from resetting. You get about 5 seconds to shoot something before you lose your combo. The game is played on a cylindrical map so you essentially are just going in circles, which is nice for seeing what is coming and going around you. The easier difficulty levels can become a bit boring, but are great for learning the game. Once you get to the later veteran levels and any of the master difficulty levels it becomes a frantic and pleasantly frustrating experience. It is not easy on master. I repeat, it is NOT easy. I have restarted the first level a good 40 times in the last day since I am pushing myself to get a perfect run on master. The boss fights are fun and can become challenging. The game is great for fans of the R-Type or Gradius series'. And the best part if the price. It is completely free at this point. Whether or not they will release any paid content later is anyone's guess, but for now it is free. I strongly suggest you check it out. If you are a casual gamer that just plays CoD, GTA, and BF then you may be disappointed, but any gamer that really likes a simple, yet addictive and challenging experience should give this a go.

    Resogun - a Beautiful Blow'Em Up

Resogun is one of the most fun video game experiences I've had in a while. This is a subjective opinion, of course, since I've always enjoyed these spaceship shooter types and I haven't played a good one for some time. Learning curve: Resogun presents its player with frenetic action with several ships, shots and explosions on screen at the same time.
    Resogun - a Beautiful Blow'Em Up

Resogun is one of the most fun video game experiences I've had in a while. This is a subjective opinion, of course, since I've always enjoyed these spaceship shooter types and I haven't played a good one for some time.

    Learning curve:
Resogun presents its player with frenetic action with several ships, shots and explosions on screen at the same time. And while this is a tremendously fun and rewarding experience when you call pull things off right it can also be extremely frustrating when you're still trying to get the hang of things.
You see, the player is not only tasked to essentially blow everything that moves and shoots against you but also save 10 humans in each level.
These 10 humans all start imprisoned within a cage and it's the player's task to open them and safely deliver the humans to a rescue ship.
The only problem with this is that there are very little in game clues to how exactly do you get the humans out of their cages. Don't get me wrong, the game does provide some clues but in the middle of frenetic action where staying alive is already a demanding task, I found that noticing these clues was rather hard.

However, once you understand the mechanics behind the game everything will go much smoother.

    Graphics:
Resogun is very simplistic in its presentation but it contains also a lot of eye-candy components.
When I say simplistic, I mean that most of the game's models are made out of cubes. Yes simple cubes and yet it's so well made that it took me some gaming hours to realize this. Unlike Minecraft, Resogun doesn't have a "shove a cube in your sight because it simplifies our development process" attitude. The cubes are very well organized and presented in a way that it is never a sore to the eyes and frankly it's quite hard to notice that they're just cubes.

Each one of its levels has a theme and everything in it (enemies, background and bosses) are designed to match that theme.

The best part of Resogun's presentation is, by far, its particle system. The explosions are just gorgeous and there are so many flying little pieces of what used to be a horde of enemies when you blow them up. It's quite spectacular!

    Gameplay:
There are 3 ships to choose from in Resogun: Nemesis (very agile with high turbo and low overdrive), Ferox (balanced agility, turbo and overdrive) and Phobos (low agility and turbo and high overdrive). Agility represents how fast a ship can move, turbo makes your ship go faster and ends in an explosion and Overdrive is a special attack where the ship emits arcs of lighting that destroy everything in their path.
The Turbo feature in a ship represents how fast turbo regenerates and how long it lasts and the Overdrive feature in a ship represents how far these lightning arcs go, how long Overdrive mode lasts and how fast you regenerate the Overdrive bar.
When using either Turbo or Overdrive your ship becomes invincible and that's something to have in mind in the higher difficulty settings.
This means that Turbo can be used to escape a harsh situation but it can also be used offensively since you'll destroy any enemy (except for bosses) you hit while in Turbo mode.

Each ship has its own upgradeable firing method as well. Nemesis has homing missiles that are great for crowd control, Ferox gets a wider shooting area and Phobos has a very powerful shot (with smaller very short range wide spread shots) that is great to take down the bosses.

There are only 5 levels in the game that won't take up too much of your time if you play Resogun in the easier difficulty settings. These levels have high replay value which confers some longevity to the game.
The levels can be played either solo or in the 2 player co-op mode. The co-op mode isn't anything groundbreaking but it's a very nice and fun addition and it offers a bit of variety.
The co-op mode, however, can only be played on-line which, for me, was a bit of a disappointment since this game cries out for a split-screen mode.
Unfortunately, when I played on-line, there weren't that many other players so getting into a game was a bit of a hassle and when I did manage to play a game, my partner had tendency to quit the game after just one level.

    Verdict:
All things considered, Resogun is a very enjoyable game that provides some hours of a screen full of action packed explosions and mayhem. I highly recommend it to any fan of this genre in spite of its learning curve and lack of offline co-op.

PS.: I'm a proud holder of Resogun's Platinum Trophy.

Aliens have invaded 5 planets and taken the last of the humans. Your mission is to destroy the aliens and save the remaining humans of each planet.

The Levels are cylindrical, you move in circles through each stage which allows you to see what else is happening on other parts of the level. This is a refreshing approach that adds to the fun of the game as you will have to stay aware of your surroundings, such as keeping an eye on the humans that you will save, dodging falling debris from the galaxy and attacking enemies from all sides.

The humans are locked in boxes and are only freed when you kill specific enemies called keepers highlighted in green. This frees the humans from the box, you will then have to pick them up and bring them back to safety pods which earns you points and upgrades.

The controls are simple, you control your ship with the left analog stick and shoot with the right. you can only shoot left and right which fits perfectly for this type of game. The shoulder buttons are used for boosts , that speeds you through enemies, bombs that should be used only when necessary, and an overdrive power, which creates a powerful attack that destroys many enemies.

The visuals are rich with many things happening at the same time without a drop in the frame rate, details such as the rain and lightning are impressive to look at while playing and the music fits well with the game play. The enemies are varied, with their own health and attacks. You fight a boss at the end of each level; however, not all boss fights are challenging.

The multiplier system is engaging as you will have to keep your score up by firing at enemies to earn points. Not doing so for a couple of seconds brings your multiplier points back down, this system is tense and rewarding. It is a shame that Resogun is short because the game is addictive with a lot of replayability. You can even play the game coop offline and online. Resogun is a good game that succeeds in delivering a fast paced shoot em up that i worth your time.
