    Once again, the developers have demonstrated a remarkable ability to change what RE7 is and how it plays on a fundamental level. This is every bit as impressive as the rest of the game’s content, but it feels completely fresh and unique, just going to show what a stellar product Capcom has released. If only it was available in VR.

    Banned Footage Vol. 2 is a great expansion for the great Resident Evil 7. Daughters show us what happened with the Bakers when they met their destiny, and 21 and Jack’s 55h Birthday are pretty good mini games that also expand the narrative of the main game.

    This second DLC is not at all bad, expecially considering that the content is rather varied, original and challenging. There's something for everyone, for people who appreciate a good, tense story and for players who long for a speedrun. Combined together, the two Banned Footage DLC are a great addendum to an amazing horror game.

    Resident Evil 7: Biohazard - Banned Footage Vol. 2 is arguably an even better piece of DLC than its already excellent predecessor, but our excitement for the additions is tempered by frustration that they should have been included with the main game. We liked the core campaign as it was, but with these packs bolted on it could have scored higher. Still, what you have here is some truly inventive content that repurposes the game's main mechanics in a variety of interesting and exciting ways.

    While on part of this scenario collection is plain silly (and thus breaking with the gritty and dark undertone of the main campaign), another is merely an homage to Jigsaw’s sense of gaming torture that was evident in Saw. If it weren’t for “Daughters” I would suggest to skip this DLC.

    Banned Footage Vol. 2 is a more conservative approach to Resident Evil 7’s post-release program. It plays in the same space as Vol. 1—both are insistent and diverse recasts of Resident Evil 7‘s components—but it exchanges chaos for stability. Eccentric blackjack, exacting resource management, and a condensed, comfortable reprise of the proper game are suitable, if not safe, slices of content.

    Unlike Banned Footage Vol.1, this second DLC is not able to provide any true enjoyable experience or memorable moment. Too bad.

The solutions to almost every scenario are one dimensional. The player must follow a specific path or complete a specific sequence to move on to the next section. Most solutions are obtuse and failure results in a large loading segment while needing to repeat previous steps. My most memorable moment here involved Evaline’s creepy interactions with Zoe.

    21 (7/10 Fun and Unfair): RE7 21 is an interesting mini DLC involving a SAW inspired card game with the Baker’s sadistic son Lucas. The game itself is easy to understand and the stakes become increasingly dire as Lucas ups the ante. I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. The gameplay has good pacing with an extremely simple gameplay mechanic becoming a little more complex later on with trump cards. Lucas cheating later in the game, initially extremely annoying, adds to the fun. My most memorable moment was calculating ways to win seemingly impossible hands.    … Full Review »

    The Banned Footage Vol. 2 is a slight improvement from the first one, but many issues with its content is much the same: content that feelsThe Banned Footage Vol. 2 is a slight improvement from the first one, but many issues with its content is much the same: content that feels cut from the main game in order to be served as DLC. Three more modes are added that should have been included in the base game at launch. Here's a quick review of each one:

    1) 21 is a card game mode that is the best of the three, which mixes Saw and poker into a interesting and brutal game of life and death. The downsides are learning through death and luck to win and the quick voice transitions from their painful moments instantly destroys the tension and fear buldup, turning to frustration. Add that to a unskippable loading of the same trap you just died from readied again gets worse. At its best, its fun and goofy in a dark humor way, but at worst its polarizing for players.

    2) If 21 was humorous through its dark humor, then Jack's 55th Birthday destroys that with pure comedy that detaches itself from the horror vibe completely. Similar to Raid and Mercenaries, you are tasked to feed Jack by exploring the house and killing enemies to stall the timer, achieve under that limit and progress to the next stage. The issues though come by the inventory management and recycling of new areas. "Crafting" better foods for Jack to consume can be a bit of pain as there is no "sliding" effect items had in say like RE5, where you could just place the object on the other and it did it instantly. Considering this is a time based event, this can take alot of your time up and prove irritating for players. The areas you traverse through is only six, yet repeat not only on places you HAVE ALREADY BEEN IN when playing the story, but REPEAT AGAIN when you do their harder versions! The humor is also way too much, as in its more annoying than cute. This makes the questioning of having this as dlc even more apparent, and that's not even including the biggest upset of them all.

    3) Daughters had the best potential to be the best part of the DLC. With a story that struggled with character development and writing, having a prequel would answer some questions we had about the beginnings. While there is something here, Daughters is still a terrible piece of content that (much like Bedroom) should have been a part of the main game's story in the form of a tape that you got as your progressed. It's setup is once again in the same house (surprisingly still trashed like before when you first play the game) and offers extremely little. Playing as Zoey should have been an opportunity to get to know her better considering she had virtually no real development or likability in the base game. Even after playing a hour (beating it twice in that time and going VERY slow to boot), I barely knew anything I haven't already learned before from the base in-game documents. It ends before it even starts, and even with a second ending, there is very little to change that feels like real progress. It's linear through and through. It's on par with Bedroom in terms of length (yes, both runs combined is about the same full length of Bedroom) and general terrible lack of content to them.

    As said, Banned Footage Vol. 2 should have been content apart of the game at launch, no exception. If everything was included, I would be more forgiving but to charge $15 dollars (including $10 for Banned Footage Vol. 1), this is a inexcusable display of greed from Capcom. Considering there is only $5 dollars left from the Season Pass for a "Story Episode", Capcom has only one swing left before striking out RE7 as a cashgrab rather than the RE game we have been waiting for since RE4.    … Full Review »
