    A storytelling masterpeice, I love this game and you should to, the only reason it doesn't get a perfect score is due to the lackluster multiplayer, but the real draw here is the story.

    Unbelievably detailed world with surprisingly smart NPCs that bring the world to life. A slow burn of a game but once you get immersed in the world its quite captivating. The only other games i put in its class the past decade are BOTW and Witcher 3.

    Let’s get what this game gets right out of the way first: the visuals. This game defies belief... especially if playing on a proper HDR screen. The attention to detail in the animation, the weather effects and particularly the mud and snow effects are like nothing else in gaming. Although it’s far from perfect... I’ll come back to this. The attention to detail in the animation, the weather effects and particularly the mud and snow effects are like nothing else in gaming. Although it’s far from perfect... I’ll come back to this. The music and sound effects are also incredible... just take the noise your horse’s hooves make on the various different surfaces. A lot of effort went into that. The surround sound placement is possibly the best I’ve seen in a PS4 game.

    Now the bad... the user interface and controls of this game are without doubt the most confusing and badly designed I’ve ever encountered... and bear in mind that I play (and have no problem with) Elite Dangerous on the PS4. Let me give you just 4 examples (but there are loads more).

    Example 1: To bring up the weapon/item wheel, you hold L1, then hold a direction with the right joystick, then release L1 while still holding that direction. The problem is that the right joystick moves the camera after exiting the weapon wheel, which is irritating if what you were wanting to do was switch weapons.

    Example 2: Selecting certain weapons involves holding L1 to bring up the wheel, holding the right joystick in a direction to select a category, then pressing L2 or R2 to cycle through those choices.

    Example 3: Quick draw... you’re told to gently hold the R2 button until a meter rises to a certain level... except the meter is not very obvious. I’ve not looked this up on the Internet yet, but after 3 or 4 quick draws... I have no idea what meter they’re talking about, but the screen also turns yellow, so I wait for that to happen before fully depressing R2, and then maybe spamming R2 a few more times. And this seems to work! But it’s very likely not what you’re supposed to do. Each quick draw seems to have its own rules as to what a successful outcome should be.

    Example 4. Cinematic View... you hold down a button (the touchpad on PS4) to initiate cinematic mode, and are told to hold the 'X' button to continue moving. But you're then told R3 will change camera angles. With your thumb already on 'X', how exactly are you supposed to do that?

    And these are just part of the “standard“ controls - you also get completely different ad hoc controls for things like changing a wheel on a wagon. What it reminds me of most is those awful David Cage games. It’s all horrendously confusing. If you’re playing every day, then you do eventually get used to it, but if you stop playing this game for more than a week, getting back into it is gruelling.

    The story isn't terribly interesting, the characters are mostly two-dimensional stereotypes and the dialogue's the typical Rockstar fare... what you'd expect a teenager to write after watching a bunch of Tarantino/Scorcese movies.

    Also disappointing is the relative lack of interactivity. So much of the main story is effectively "on rails", with you as little more than a bystander. In one mission, you have to rescue a particularly unpleasant person from jail or else he will hang. There's no option to not reduce him and simply watch him hang. In another mission, someone gives you a hand-drawn map showing clues where to find some treasure... but as soon as you put the map away, the game gives you the location of the treasure on your main map anyway, so there's no puzzle to solve... you just follow where the game tells you to go. How patronising.

    Back to those visuals... good as they are, they’re far from perfect. The number of times your main character clips through objects (e.g. when sitting on a train or tram seat)... given the attention to detail elsewhere, this feels sloppy. First time I encountered the palaeontologist lady, she was clipping through the scenery too... and the first time I visited the “fence” in Emerald Farm, his entire shop counter was invisible, save for a candlestick floating in the air in front of him. One of the most common in-game sequences is where you sit down on your bed to take a nap... and your gun holster clips through the bed. NPCs commonly get stuck on scenery. And this is in July 2020... why have these things not been patched? This is Elder Scrolls levels of bugs.

    So, on the one hand, you have this absurd attention to details that don’t really matter... and on the other you have areas (UI and gameplay consistency) that do matter neglected entirely. When you consider the punishing hours the developers reported put into this... well it shows that “crunch“ merely delivers quantity rather than quality.

    What bewilders me still is the ludicrously high review scores the game got... but I put this down to craven sycophancy in the gaming press, combined with a similar attitude to rushing out material to meet a deadline    … Expand

After the first four chapters I was pretty happy with it although still frustrated with the poor controls and time wasters like skinning animations, gun cleaning and bathing. But with chapters 5 and 6 the game loses me totally aside from actually wanting to help the indians. I know rockstar doesn’t make RPG's but the way these games take the control from the player just so it can take the story in the direction it wants is infuriating. Why is there a moral system if it doesn’t impact the story other than some characters calling you a psycho if you go "all evil"?

    The problem for me is that Rockstar seems to want to make interactive movies. And that’s fine. But when I want to watch a movie, I'll watch a movie. When I want to play a game, I like to play not watch long cut scenes and/or listen endless expository dialogue when travelling to a mission that is pretty much on rails. Leave your horse here, go there, use that path, don’t kill that guy... or the mission doesn’t progress or fails. Most of the main missions end in a shoot-out and that's fine too. But even then, you're often told to follow a certain path.

    As for the story... This part of rockstar games is the most overrated part. GTA-series especially but also this game are full of genre cliches and predictable as hell. Even though I haven’t played the first RDR and didn’t even know this game was prequel I could see pretty much from the start where it's headed. Nothing in the story surprised me. Dutch was so full of BS from the start and Micah was so obvious traitor that he might as well had neon sign above his head. There is some interesting side content but main story just gets more boring and predictable with every chapter. Most of all it's really frustrating to listen to Dutch BS:ing towards the end when the game forces you to follow him regardless. GTA 5 story had much the same problems but it isn’t this long and there for doesn’t waste the players time as much. So in my opinion the writing in rockstars games isn’t nearly as good as people say or they themselves think! RDR 2 isn’t a masterpiece or a "work of art". It's pretty good game with rigid gameplay and one that overstays its welcome.    … Expand

A game rated at 97 should be so groundbreaking and awesome - so flawless and polished - whoever made it deserves to be deified. At that rating we're talking wonders of the world - something only the gods could do better - an event of historical proportions.

Часами приходится скакать по миру и это через какое-то время становится просто невыносимо.Это вторая игра на моей жизни от которой меня постоянно клонит в сон. Настолько душно становится,что словами не передать.Это симулятор наездника,а не РДР2. Я за год еле как осилил часов 20-25 игры,но сюжета я в глаза не видел. Настолько унылое повествование просто вообразить сложно. За эти 20 часов по сюжету не произошло вообще ничего. НОЛЬ! ЗИРО! Абсолютно ничего! Смысл от такой проработки по технической части,если со всем остальным все плохо? Да даже по технической части есть вопросы. Как то раз искал цирюльника. На дворе ночь, подбегаю и вижу, что он стоит прямо за дверь, но дверь не открыть. Он так и простоял до утра у двери и лишь затем открыл свою лавку) Полнейший бред) Часто текстуры проходят сквозь друг друга. Банально, когда Артур садится на лошадь это видно. "Полиция" и пальцем не пошевелит, когда тебя убивают, но стоит тебе дать сдачи, то тебе кранты. Прекрасная проработка)

    За отсутствие русской озвучки отдельный минус. Иногда нужно скакать, стрелять, читать субтитры, успеть что-то понять или понять что от тебя хотят и ещё при этом как-то восхищаться миром и детялами) Это же полный бред. Некоторые персонажи болтают настолько быстро, что даже субтитры прочесть не успеть, а в пылу сражения просто забей.

    В эту игру просто скучно играть. Даже забагованный киберпанк наголову выше, чем этот апофеоз уныния. Сюжет и геймплей вот что важно, а не красивый мир и проработка деталей. В этой игре ни сюжета, ни геймплея. Эта игра для тех кто просто любит большие, красивые и проработанные миры. Те кто будет в восторге от дотошной проработки всех деталей. Кому интересно просто медитативно путешествовать по миру. Я лично засыпаю от уныния. Все однообразно и пресно. Скучнейшая игра на моей памяти. Скука=плохая игра. Жаль каждой копейки потраченной на игру. Советую игру лишь диким погруженцам в миры. Кому от игр нужно больше чем красивая картинка проходите мимо.     It's every bit as good as the first game, if not better! I love the gameplay, it's insanely beautiful to look at, and the story was endlessly compelling. If you want a top notch western simulator, you can't ask for better than this!

    Boring game! Spend most of the time riding. Gunfights are to easy and boring. Missions are completely useless. Slow paced game. Real deception! Don’t play the last of us (1 and 2) and then play this game! You’ll be frustrated. Wasted 20 hours of my life and 30 euros with this game!

I cant kill children in the game, why even include them then? I couldn't find my house and smartphone in the game, it also had no internet and the cars really break my immersion.     Red Dead Redemption 2 is an example of both one of the best games of the decade and one of the most predatory business models with the introduction of Read Dead Online. This game is a straight 9 or 10 with the single player and could easily make the same rating with its online features, sadly the gameplay is flawed by design to force purchases of ingame currency.

    Absolute masterpiece of a game. Not perfect though, combat is super repetitive and can get boring, but the story is amazing, Arthur Morgan is probably the best written character I've ever played.
    Soundtrack is great, graphics are mindblowing, the amount of detail put into this game is incredible.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Пожалуй, Rockstar создали одну из величайших игр поколения. Никогда не было такого уделения внимания деталям. Ни в одной игре я не засиживался по 5-6 часов играя в покер, рыбалка, охота. Открытый мир наполнен различными событиями.
    Сюжетная линия за Артура Моргана, пожалуй, это самая красивая история игрового персонажа. Он харизматичен, запоминается, в нём ни чёрного, ни белого. Особенно 4-6 глава, где игра спокойно уделывает любой голливудский блокбастер. А концовка стала ужасно грустной, и та самая музыка из концовки.
    Да музыка тоже достойна похвалы, полностью передаёт ту самую атмосферу Дикого Запада.
    Эпилог за Джона Марстона мне показался немного скучным, но всё же последнее задание не даёт заскучать.
    Да и большинство персонажей игры запоминается, одним сопереживаешь, других ненавидишь. Но к ним нет равнодушия.
    Пожалуй, на текущий момент это лучшая игра, которая выпущена на данный момент    … Expand

Story of the game should be used to do movie series and books, i loved it. Cooking, fishing and hunting are huge part of the game but only if we are into it. There is so many types of birds that i can't tell a difrece between them but there is. I loved fishing, catching the special fishes for guy and sending to them to him was really my favorite side mission. I can see this game is going to be timeless and our kids are going to play it and will enjoy it 10 years later.… Expand

    RDR2 is a story driven masterpiece and approaches life long questions as friendship, loyalty and anxiety in a great way. It's one of the few true depictions of how human beings should act when things actually go to **** which is refreshing for once. The main group of people is a tremendous mix of interesting characters which grow on you throughout the story. By simple stuff like having a party in your camp, you get to know the different characters and they truly feel human.

    Without spoiling anything in the story, it's great. It's a long narrative that is paced greatly. Even though it does take some time to really accelerate into gripping, once it starts it's absolutely amazing. Certain episodes of the game are more or less Oscar-worthy, with scenes that would be historical would they be shown in a cinema.

    The athmosphere, world and detail is great. Riding your horse can trigger random events which you can enjoy or ignore, the animals behave in a way no game has ever seen before and the world is huge with a lot of detail. It's one of the few open worlds where there's a lot of stuff to do even though it's massive, and a lot of different activities are spread around the world.

    If there's something this game is lacking, then it would be the pretty repetetive gameplay with rather basic gameplay. Playing as Arthur itself does not evolve throughout the games more than receiving new weapons, which is a bit lackluster. However, this is carried by the story which puts you in new situations giving you new type of gameplay with the same gameplay.

    While many people might disagree with this game, especially looking at it from a gameplay perspective, I must say this is a true masterpiece. For me, this is a story, not a game. It's about Arthur's life and the life in America at this time and how the people would tackle it. It's a journey of friendship in the most difficult times which is for once actually displayed sincerely. As a story driven game, nothing currently beats Read Dead Redemption 2, and I believe it will set the bar for future games for a long, long time.    … Expand

    Some nitpicks, though, is the game can be too realistic. Such as having to eat to keep up your weight or you drain your cores quicker or having to brush your horse for the same reason. Some of the side missions can break the immersion by being that generic 'I'm looking for [blank] can you help me find it' or the tasks they make you do are trivial and unoriginal. Some of the tasks are things that you would never ask a stranger to do such as setting up lightning rods in a science lab or reteriveing item from a foreclosed house but some of the other missions you make meaningful friends and have fun adventures with them.

    The story, however, more than makes up it alone. It is a lot easier to talk about the bad in things but this game is an absolute must-play and is the best game in my extensive library.    … Expand

    Yeah I'm 2 years late but I just got into this series. After playing RD1 I had to download RD2 after seeing it on sale. I LOVE it! A beautiful game and addicting. I found myself playing for several hours at a time when I didn't plan to. Not too many games get me to do that. Wonderful yet predictable story but I won't spoil it. The only negative is the game is TOO long! After 60+ hoursYeah I'm 2 years late but I just got into this series. After playing RD1 I had to download RD2 after seeing it on sale. I LOVE it! A beautiful game and addicting. I found myself playing for several hours at a time when I didn't plan to. Not too many games get me to do that. Wonderful yet predictable story but I won't spoil it. When Red Dead Redemption 2 came out, I knew it was probably one of the best games that was ever released, but like I said I wasn’t into games that much, so I ignored it but when I got the chance to play it in 2020 December and from the first second to the last I was hooked! RDR2 was if not the best, at least was one of the best 10 games i’ve ever played! RDR2 offers you a large variety of good written characters, a fantastic story and bunch of epic twists and turns.RDR2 has a really huge world and a lot of new environments, it is probably the best open-world experiences that you will ever play and for all to GTA fans that will probably say that “GTA HAS A BETTER OPEN WORLD”, I really like GTA too, but I need to admit because of my passion for the old spaghetti western movies and the epic variety of RDR2’s world, this game has a beauty to it’s open world experience, of course in one hand you have probably the largest game franchise in all of the world: Grand Theft Auto but RDR2 is just magical and feels like something really close to the human soul and don’t get me started on the gameplay and the mechanics because it’s not my place to say a bad word about the rockstar games but RDR2 is really something special, man.Look, there would be some people that would say that RDR2 has one-dimensional characters and a story that’s really repetitive but in my honest opinion they’re all wrong. RDR2 has great character development, a really good story with a bunch of twists and turns and I’m not going to give-away anything of this wonderful magnificent game but the ending is probably one of the best endings i’ve seen in my entire life.     Rockstar needs to GIVE UP doing online modes. They are terrible and suck so bad.
    As a trophy hunter it makes these games unfun and almost unplayable.

    Great, fantastic. Love the amount of detail. Could spend weeks in the wild. I imagine this is particularly enjoyable for people stuck in the cities with no access to rural areas not even once in a while. Me, I had the chance to ride horses once or twice having grown close to my grandparents' village so I know how cool it is in the nature.

Game allow you to deeply dive into the world of outlaws during the end of 19th century, giving you the opportunaty to live your own outlaw life via Arthur Morgan. I've spent 100 h+ only on world exploration as its so remarkably beautiful. Game allow you to deeply dive into the world of outlaws during the end of 19th century, giving you the opportunaty to live your own outlaw life via Arthur Morgan. Game is an action-adventure, but I'd say with some role playing mechanics, which makes this game perfect for me.

    My score is 9/10 with hope for a RDR3 sequel which would absolutely earn my 10 :)

But when Arthur Morgan is die, storyline die because all your missions you work for dutch and other member of gange and on final missions they kill you but is evolution open world games.     RDR2 is one of the best, biggest and welcomed games of the 2010s. It has a masterful campaign filled with love, hatred, greed and fear so because of that I won't spoil anything, please go play it.

    First of all the world is a technical wonder it has big open grasslands; tight dark forest and big sprawling cities. It has surprisingly complex systems in it for example: weight loss and gain    RDR2 is one of the best, biggest and welcomed games of the 2010s.     It is incredibly detailed and structured which also could be said about the story.

    You just have to play to experience this game. I would say it's one of the best games of the generation. Story, music, graphics, performance, world building was 10/10. Is the gameplay control janky? Yeah. But there is just so much good that outweighs the bad. The tragic story of Arthur Morgan and the Van Der Linde gang was told so masterfully. The game is open world, but you can prettyYou just have to play to experience this game. I would say it's one of the best games of the generation. Story, music, graphics, performance, world building was 10/10. Is the gameplay control janky? Yeah. But there is just so much good that outweighs the bad. The tragic story of Arthur Morgan and the Van Der Linde gang was told so masterfully. The game is open world, but you can pretty much play RDR2 as a linear game and just focus on the main and stranger missions. My suggestion is to play all the stranger missions, except for the collection missions, because the stranger missions do come into play and tell you more about Arthur himself. Read Arthur's journal occasionally after each mission to know what Arthur thinks about everything that happened. Play as honorably as possible as it is meant to be played. But if you choose to explore the open world, prepare to get your minds blown as it throws all other open world games out of the water. There's so many side content that it's best to find it all online. The story is where it's at for RDR2. One of the best narrative games, period.… Expand

    one of the best games of the last decade. The story and its twists and turns are brilliant. How rockstar paid attention to detail says a lot about how the world is worked out both technically and with an artistic one. every time I am convinced that rockstar games are worth their money

    It’s an huge, outstanding piece of art – worth the hard-earned cash as well as countless hours that are needed to get to know at least some of the attractions of Rockstar’s rendition of Wild West. For those who put story first – the biggest virtue of Red Dead Redemption 2 is that it sets the stage for RDR 1 and does it wonderfully. [13/2018, p.40]

    Amazing not only for Western lovers. No other game has probably offered so many options to express yourself in the open world, and at the same time did not have such an interesting, rough and moving story. A magnificent experience, with a slightly slower start. [Issue#291]
