Predator: Hunting Grounds is difficult to advise even the most loyal fans of the franchise. The game is not worth your time, even if it will be distributed on a PS Plus subscription or sold at a huge discount. It is almost impossible to get pleasure here. Terrible graphics, unbalanced gameplay, poorly developed mechanics and broken matchmaking leave only a deep sense of frustration.

After the success of Friday the 13th, IllFonic tries again the same, multiplayer asymmetric formula, only this time in a FPS. The results are disappointing to say the least, in a game that almost nothing is working as it should.

Predator: Hunting Grounds is not a very good game, but it is not broken either. It is mostly mediocre. Yet we usually have a great time when we fight in the jungle, whether it is as soldiers or the predator. The online matches generally work well and it is pretty nerve-wracking to try to complete the goals. In the end, however, the price tag is a bit high and the content is lacking, but if you like the genre it is a good buy - especially when it is on sale.

It's difficult to come to terms with Predator: Hunting Grounds being nothing more than a single game mode with shallow gameplay and abundant technical issues. It works when you're navigating the tree line as the Predator and hunting down a team of players, but these moments are fleeting. For the most part, you're going to be running through the same types of missions as one of four human players, with unskilled Predator players not providing the ample tension required to make the undertaking worthwhile. And even if you do find yourself playing enough to be matched against some of Hunting Grounds' best players, there's not enough depth to sustain it for much longer.

Playing as the Predator is a wonderful idea, it just deserves a better game around it. Bugs, mediocre first-person gameplay, repetitive missions, an ugly setting, and a reliance on playing with friends mean Predator Hunting Grounds is boring a lot more often than it is enjoyable.

As it stands, Predator Hunting Grounds is nothing more than a hollow representation of the much-beloved franchise. It's a game desperately trying to keep up with today's trends of intricate leveling systems and loot-box rewards, but its gameplay and visuals hold it back years.

On a superficial level, Predator: Hunting Grounds succeeds at translating elements of the original 1987 movie into a four-on-one multiplayer game, and the matchups are occasionally tense and thrilling. But shoddy game balance, sloppy design, frequent bugs, and significant technical shortcomings squander most of the potential.

There is a shell of a good game in Predator: Hunting Grounds, but severe balancing issues, poor console performance, and general clunkiness hold it back from standing shoulder to shoulder with other solid 4v1 multiplayer games—even the one its developer has made before. While its Predator callbacks are solid, for fans looking for another good Predator game, there's not one to be found here. At least not yet.

Predator: Hunting Grounds wouldn't look too out of place amongst the tacked-on multiplayer modes of the PS3 generation. It offers a handful of hours packed with enjoyment but quickly comes apart at the seams as you realise how lacking in content it really is. While playing as the Predator and a good amount of customisation may be its saving graces, this is an experience you can safely skip.

Beside horrible matchmaking and a plethora of technical faults, Predator: Hunting Grounds is awfully unbalanced, looks downright ugly, severely lacks variety and is simply unpleasant to play. The game does have a lot of clever nods to the movies and a bunch of great ideas throughout, but the execution is generally really, really bad.

A predictably grim spin on a legendary action license that really deserves better, Predator: Hunting Grounds is unworthy prey.

But this game is just like the failure Evolve, which scored a 5.1 and 4.3. The controls are not there and feel like the predator is on auto pilot part of the time. Then your waiting for people to join a game, on launch day after 3mins I went to a private game. But hey, some people might actually like this and that’s cool! I hope this bad game doesn’t stop companies from trying to make a good predator game. Full Review »

The graphics on ps4 are barely comparable to Black Ops 1, which came out 10 years ago. In addition to inept and horribly outdated visuals, this game dares to not only run at 30 frames but dip below it and reach 20 frames multiple times during every match. Customization is fine for the most part but there isn't enough weapons, not enough attachments for them either. The only saving grace of this game is Predator, but you can only play him if you aren't in a party. WTF. Even in Friday the 13th, which came out 3 years ago, you could be in a party and still get Jason and try to kill your friends. Why do I have to host private matches for that?! This is absolutely horrid - the most fun you can have with this game, you can't have it with friends. Even for 40 dollars, this isn't worth it. If you're a Predator fan, wait for a sale. I feel bad for Illfonic, I like these guys. Please, do patch this game, add more maps, fix the AI, and make it so we could get Predator while in a party, please. For now, I'll be playing something else. Full Review »
