It takes quite a while to get up and running in this game and the first era is rather boring in my opinion. High points for atmosphere, lore, art, etc. The game play mechanics wise is a bit clunky, but they've already patched out a few weird things, and I expect more goodness to come in that variety. I think this is a proper $20-30 game but the $40 price tag feels high for what it is. Overall it's fun and worth a try if you like the art and turn-based games or rogue-likes in general, but if you don't like those 3 things I'd definitely avoid it. Expand

I almost quit it, it took a while for me to understand the rhythm and playstyle necessary to be successful. Once you sort of "get it", and have a few mid level characters, it starts to feel pretty fun.

Clever, reflective, and beautiful turn based game which rewards thoughtful play and learning from mistakes. XCom gets mentioned a lot but I see more of Mechanicus and Transistor in this in how it plays and the way the story, music, art, and gameplay come together.

Few niggles and bugs on release and with first post-release patch. The reaction of the indie devs to more feedback has been positive and proactive so far so hopefully those bits of polish and user friendliness can be added.

If you're intrigued by the idea of a dark, and somtimes unforgiving, nightmarish take on turn based squad games then this nails its landing.

Non-boss fights get boring fast, there isn't too much enemy variety, or build variety with your characters, overall it is a short game. ( around 20 hours I think ).
    - I for one didn't love the creepy story. If you still have your natural human empathy for mindless suffering and torture, then you probably won't love it either. I disabled voices, and cutscenes and what left is an enjoyable turned-based rpg.
    - Boss fights gets much less exciting once you figure out you just have to spam all your interruption spells constantly to win.

Solid turn based game with a beautiful art style. This game is simple in story but creates an eerie vibe with its lovecraftian settings. A must play for fans of turn based games.

Very nice game, Beatifull story, nice gameplay, awesome soundtrack.
An interesting feature with gameplay is that when failure is not failure, it is a fresh attempt. Cool invented with the treatment and death of daughters, each action is now more carefully thought out.

The game stands out among the crowd with its immediately eye-catching aesthetic and its roguelike mixture of tactics and horror. It’s an oppressive game that teaches the player through repeated failure, granting new insight to use in future encounters. The game’s mechanics may seem simple, but there is a beautifully crafted battle system with all the tools needed to beat the nightmarish enemies and bosses at their own game. While the roguelike elements add in some repetition and grind, I highly recommend Othercide to tactics fans looking for something different. If given proper time and attention, Othercide is an incredibly rewarding tactical RPG that will push players to their limits. It’s difficult and frustrating at times, but it all pays off in the end.

The problems with Othercide are mainly some lack of polish, some pacing issues and the repetitious grind that is going to hit hard. The novelty of the game is surprising, and the quality is actually good. Some choices, like practically requiring soldier sacrifice, are going to be off-putting, along with the colour scheme and dark tones and story. Beyond this, the progress run to run feels too slow and may be off-putting on an otherwise unique game.

Othercide is a fantastic rogue-like-Xcom-like turn based strategy game with an awesome Noire-Gothic design. The initiative feature is a fresh twist to this genre and the soul-crushing sacrificing of the Daughters are the morbid features that make this game shine. This game will keep you stuck to the screen until you win.
