If nothing else, Night Trap is a historic document. A nostalgia trip for some and an insight into a rare gaming niche for others. Presented here with insightful extras and a modern lick of paint, it still stands up as a genre curio. There isn’t much content here and continued enjoyment will rely on how much you are willing to replay the main story. But, if you succumb to its corny charms, this is a game as entertaining to play as it is to watch.

Night Trap: 25th Anniversary Edition is an important game that’s worth experiencing. It’s just not a particularly good one.

If you’ve never played Night Trap before and want to know what the fuss was all about, there’s really no better way. The FMV genre has been as good as dead for a long time and as such there’s not much like it out there these days.

After way too long I realized things probably already went haywire and I had missed something, so I closed it.

After googling I learned that at no point does it ever tell you how to play the game. Yet even after learning, I made a genuine attempt to finish the game, and still, I'd keep failing. It got so frustrating I had to quit.

The article admits that if you want to beat the game, you probably not only have to google the controls, but also what to do and when to do it. It is seemingly too difficult to play without a playthrough guide popped up on your second screen...

The score isn't any lower because of the game's originality. It is a unique idea, an entertaining one if it had been approached correctly. The actors are great, the plot is decent, and there is a lot of quality stuff to watch and fun to be had by playing this game.

I am really upset that I have to give a low score to this game, but let me explain why in 2 parts.

First: The cinematic experience. The footage is amazing, and although it is a B-movie, I still loved the characters and fell in love with the plot. This game actually brought me to tears (no joke).

Second: This is the reason my score is so low. The gameplay. You do not get to experience any of the plot. It is all a distraction. Every half second, you have to swap screens and trap an Augur. This really hurts the game, and they should release the footage as a movie. I wish that I could give a higher score. but what you see is not anything special, because all of that is on the screens you shouldn't be looking at.
