Gameplay: Great sword play with a lot of variety of combo's and the change or perspective and bullet hell segments add plenty to the experience...playing on the second playthrough as 9S allows you to do more hacking than sword play and the third playthrough allows you to use A2 which has different moves...all in all great gameplay.

Graphics: Great visuals, but what sets this game apart

Graphics: Great visuals, but what sets this game apart is the art style and design...it's very stylistic and unique, some textures are a bit blurry on some objects but nothing that ruins the experience.

Sound: Nothing much to say here...the voice acting is pure greatness and music is simply epic...and certainly lives up to the original Nier's OST.

Characters: Very deep and emotionally engaging characters...though you will not get everything on them on the first playthrough...They mostly shine in the main five endings routes.

Story: As expected from Yoko Taro...the story is pure insanity and beautifully bizarre and challenges your mind to the very end...again, multiple playthroughs are needed to grasp the whole story...and it's completely worth it.

Verdict: Great game, do yourself a favor and buy it.

I have been gaming obsessively since 1996, and I made a metacritic account purely to give this game in particular a 10/10. It's an stunning title, and I find it incredibly hard to imagine another game getting my GOTY vote this year. I would buy a PS4 exclusively for this title, if I didn't have one already.

It's an stunning title, and I find it incredibly hard to imagine another game getting my GOTY vote this year. I would buy a PS4 exclusively for this title, if I didn't have one already.

Graphics - 9/10 - Perfectly suited to the game. Suffers from some mild invisible-wall syndrome, but totally within reason. Beautiful, imaginative environments, and no framerate slow-down.
Sound - 10/10 - One of the best action OSTs of all time, in my personal opinion. The voice acting was believable and endearing, and the sound effects were seemless.
Gameplay - 10/10 - Smooth, crisp, engaging combat. The regularly changing perspectives and genre blending hold the players' attention well, creating a constantly diverse and exciting experience. The level-up system is simple yet provides incredible freedom, and each weapon class is unique enough that combat feels satisfyingly different with each possible combination.
Story - 10/10 - I don't usually play games for their stories, but I couldn't help myself with NieR: Automata. It was rife with intrigue, the characters were charismatic, the plot was deep and raised many appealing existential questions. NieR: Automata presents one of the best stories, and some of the best character interactions in a video game to-date.

Some may ask "Why are you hyping this game up so much?" The answer: It's been so damn long since I played a Triple A game of this calibre. It excites me that this game exists, because it means that other games of the same quality are possible. It gives me nostalgia, whilst feeling up-to-date, and presents a serious plot credibly, whilst maintaing a fantastic sense of humour during side-quests and throughout. In NieR: Automata, moving is fun, fighting is fun, levelling up is fun, questing is fun, fishing whilst listening to the OST and admiring the landscape is fun. It's just damn good fun all-round, and I can't find anything about that disappoints me.

    Buy it. Don't miss this one. It's a standard-setter.

This is the most polished and innovative game I have played in recent years. It keeps blowing my mind over and over again the more I play. Sadly, it's hard to specify anything without giving spoilers. The less you know about this game, the better the experience will be. I can see myself putting another 70+ hours into this game, on top of my current 30h.

The plot is in equal amounts crazy and hooking. Again, innovative is the best way to describe it. The combat is engaging and deep. The graphics are crisp and the visual design interesting and even partly humorous. And if all that wasn't enough, I give the soundtrack 12/10.

    Masterpiece. Must play.

In a first place I want you to tell that Nier:Automata is masterpiece.
If you have played Nier or Drakengard 1/3 and beat it than you know that it's pointless to check reviews of Yoko Taro games. I would explain you why: his games are loved because of story and lore, but if you want to get a true ending (if you want to know the full story), than you MUST to beat game several times. Heck,

I would explain you why: his games are loved because of story and lore, but if you want to get a true ending (if you want to know the full story), than you MUST to beat game several times. Heck, in previous games you need to collect EVERY weapon to proceed through story. There's probably a few "magazine reviewers" that beat his games and get true ending. This is why his previous games got such a low marks on metacritic — they are bad, but the story so AWESOME, that you falling in love with this series of Yoko Taro games.
And now, speaking about Nier:Automata — he's go even further. You getting a SECOND VOLUME of this game after you beat the game second time to get an ending B. The game itself is fun to play, has many deep stories and I was almost crying a few times (which is RARE to such a cold-hearted **** as I). Automata can give you a challenge if you're a hardcore gamer or make everything easy if you want to enjoy the story.
In my opinion this is the best game I've played in years. This game overshadowed previous games of PlatinumG and set a high bar for Yoko Taro — I can't even imaging how badass would DOD4 (drakengard 4) looks like in the future.
Easily 10 out of 10. Game of the year, hack'n'slash of the decade.

Neir: Automata is a broken game. In the beginning, it seems like a really great game but if you die even once you have to restart the entire game. You have ti watch every cut scene and redo the whole tutorial just to die again at a boss who kills you in one hit. This game does not deserve all the praise it's getting. I really regret wasting 60$ on a broken game.

So when NieR: Automata was announced I had high expectations, it's essentially a marriage of the designer Yoko Taro's ability to create strange beautiful worlds and stories with Platinum Games' vast experience of crafting intense action games. Thus this new game is different in that the action aspect is so vastly better than the previous installation while keeping some familiarity, e.g. some of the weapons will feel very familiar and the soundtrack is just as great as the original's.
What did not come as a surprise is that Platinum added a Bayonetta "Witch Time" like dodge mechanic, and combined shooting and melee. What surprised me a bit was that there are arcade style "bullet hell" and twin stick shooter elements - and it works suprisingly well. The characters are just as interesting and likeable as expected and the player has a very good variety of customization either the android itself or its accessory "pod".
I have to admit in the beginning I lost against the second mini-boss and there is no save point until more than an hour into the game, essentially after the first real boss. So for the initial play session reserve about 1.5-2 hours so you can play until you find a save spot. The save spots can sometimes get very sparse and the first bosses can be tricky. Technically NieR: Automata is a huge step up from the previous NieR and Drakengard 3 titles. If you like strange beautiful experiences, fast action, superb soundtracks and games that you have to beat multiple times, this is a must-have title.

NieR Automata: Beyond Gods Edition was a total shock to me with how much I enjoyed it. It takes a very solid experience for me to enjoy an RPG lately and NieR grabbed me quite well from the beginning and kept me entertained throughout. It's the type of game where I want to do everything that I possibly can just to make the experience longer - a type of game I rarely find nowadays. I went into NieR Autamata with no expectations other than the good gameplay that I usually find from Platinum Games, I went away floored with a near perfect action game.

NieR: Automata is not for everybody. In fact, the game looks to be aimed at the most refined fans of the medium by not caring about the regular gaming conventions, in the same way the works of David Lynch are perfect for the hardcore moviegoers.
