Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2: Grand Prix is an applaudable improvement over its original and an awesome arcade racer. While the complete lack of licensed music and voice acting endows an empty feeling, charming visuals and tons of callbacks should whet your animation-loving appetite. All-in-all, it’s an unadulterated trip down both memory and (literally) slime-filled lanes and a joyful celebration of Nicktoons.

Overall, Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2: Grand Prix is generic, yet serviceable. Nick fans like me will get a big kick from all of the characters and references that were stuffed into the package, while younger kids and those new to kart racers will enjoy the accessibility of play. It may lack the features or amount of content that I would have liked, but I can safely say that I still managed to get some enjoyable mileage out of this kart racer.

Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2: Grand Prix is a decent kart racing game. The tracks are well made and take proper inspiration from Nickelodeon’s retinue of shows, the Crew system adds a tactical element, and the challenges are decent, but it's just missing a little sparkle and a certain charm. Still, it's a thoroughly competent kart racer that leaves its predecessor in the dirt.

Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2: Grand Prix is bigger than the first installment, but it’s not better. It still is repetitive and it loses any appeal it has quite quickly. The single-player part still feels flat and boring. Despite the addition of countless challenges and a plethora of characters, the game is still very short, something the developers tried to overcompensate through repetition. The multiplayer part was only working in local mode, the online playground being a no man’s land. You could still try to overlook the shortcoming, by saying that the game is targeting mainly the younger audiences. This statement is contradicted though by the advanced difficulty levels with an AI that does not get smarter, only more aggressive, taking advantage of the conditions feels rigged against the player. Although a better effort, Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2: Grand Prix is still far from the finish line it wants to conquer.

Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2 may be fun for a couple of laps, but the derivative gameplay, dated visuals, and disappointing music causes it to lack identity in the genre and ultimately become a generic kart racer with iconic characters. The racing mechanics end up being the highlight of the entire experience, but nothing could make up for the lack of charm. It’s a decent enough game to be a gift for a kid or a rental for a weekend, but if you’re a 90s kid trying to get your nostalgia fix with a fun Nickelodeon game, I’d probably get something else.

Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2 doesn't quite do enough to separate itself from other games in the kart racing genre. While we are playing, it undoubtedly feels as a competent game, but its gameplay is nothing new. Comparisons to games like Mario Kart are everywhere, and even the game's unique mechanics are not enough to elevate it.

Even though there are only a couple of good games in the kart racing genre, the two being Mario Kart and Crash Team Racing, it is still hard to recommend Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2 to the fans of the genre as it is shallow, lacks content and simply fails to entertain.

And the racing itself - while enjoyable at times - is too unwieldy and loose. Characters slip and slide around the track with little regard for friction. Drifting seems appears unnecessary (as does slowing down) even on the fastest speeds and curviest tracks. Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2: Grand Prix borrows so much and yet still misses the mark. It may be the good will its progenitor has built up over the years, but getting hit by a jellyfish (this game's infamous blue shell) just doesn't have the same impact.

It's the big difference from other karting games, and opens up an immense amount of strategy and replayability. I can't stress enough how cool this is, both for single player challenges and competitive play. Still no voices, but the roster is incredible, game controls great, graphics are much better and music is finally good and representative of the series. Full Review »

The improvements in comparison with the first NKR game are huge. Definitely the best addition to the franchise is the crew system. Having so many customization options based on so many characters you can choose from really gives the game their own personality and makes me feel that I still have many things to discover. Driving mechanics were improved so now almost every character feels different from another and ,although almost all the power ups are inspired in Mario Kart items, the crew chiefs change the racing experience in a great way. If you are into karting games or you are a Nickelodeon fan, this game is definitely for you! Full Review »
