    Neon Abyss really shines when you you have unlocked enough upgrades to experience the carnage in full.2 Getting to that point, however, can feel like a long, hard slog. If you’re up for the challenge, persevere and this will offer you a dense, addictive experience that you’ll keep coming back to. [Issue#179, p.80]

    Neon Abyss is a fun, fast-paced twist on the rogue-like genre with a solid core gameplay loop. Although it brings new ideas to the table in the form of collectible eggs, and it has a good variety of weapons, enemies and synergies, it's not without its drawbacks. Performance issues, the lack of the genre's typical dodge button, and the chaotic room design all prevent Neon Abyss from being a must buy title.

    If Enter the Gungeon, Contra, and Gunstar Hero’s were all gene spliced in a laboratory then Neon Abyss would be that life form. Great gun mechanics that play with physics and any pre conceived notion you may be expecting.     Neon Abyss is just fine – it is a traditional rouge like that doesn't do anything particularly spectacular to stand out from the crowd.
