I love the Need for Speed series as it takes the seriousness out of racing games, and I mean that with no disrespect for those who take street racing seriously, what I mean is that the Need for Speed titles are fun, they’re reckless, they encourage you to try things you don’t necessarily get to try in less street-based games.

I love the Need for Speed series as it takes the seriousness out of racing games, and I mean that with no disrespect for those who take street racing seriously, what I mean is that the Need for Speed titles are fun, they’re reckless, they encourage you to try things you don’t necessarily get to try in less street-based games.

Drifting plays an absolutely massive part in Need for Speed, something which I’m actually a huge fan of. The only problem is, the game just doesn’t offer any instruction or drifting techniques to allow new players to get to grips with this integral mechanic. Not only that, AI racers are so oblivious to other players on the road trying to do anything remotely technical can often end in frustration, especially when you’re trying to conquer a long drift-chain combo and the tit behind you decides to ram full-speed into you destroying your combo.

Unfortunately this has been one of the main problems with the series as of late. Rivals suffered with crappy AI too, which only makes games like this frustrating beyond belief. I’m not just talking about the fictional racers in the game either, the police AI is just as ridiculous making the Outlaw path a pretty difficult one to follow, unless you decide to hold the cops hand by allowing them to catch up.

Fortunately AI is the only real problem with Need for Speed, sure it’s a bit of a massive one, but there are many bright points which hopefully outshine this issue.

One of those things is the games visuals. I’m not sure how they’ve done it, but Ghost Games has managed to create one of the most realistic games I’ve ever witnessed. Not just with the cars, but with the environments too, specifically with lighting. Though considering most of the races are at night in wet weather, a number of factors play into the visual side of things.

Not only that, the cutscenes, though fairly cheesy and consists of more fist bumps than I can count, look fantastic especially considering the cars are rendered in-game, making it look even more brilliant. The visuals in Need for Speed are second to none. They left me thoroughly dumbfounded and I’m still impressed with the way the game looks each time I start up the game.

One of the other huge selling points of Need for Speed was that every car in the game can be purchased from the very beginning, no unlocks are needed, all you need is the cash to splash on a pricey vehicle. The only real problem you’ll have is that getting that cash to actually purchase that Lamborghini you’ve been eyeing up, feels very much like any other progress-based unlock system. Sure, the car is there to purchase at any time, but you need to still put the work in, in order to actually ride in it.

Overall, Need for Speed is much of the same, which is one of the reasons why I feel so indifferent about it. Sure, it’s visuals are fantastic and the depth of customisation requires an oxygen tank, but the dull story and the oblivious AI does offer a number of sour moments, at least for me.

I got best car available in game in under an hour, then everything got boring and repetitive and annoying really. The idea of phone constantly vibrating is just bad and just pisses you off. Visual tuning is amazing if we talk decals, but the physical look of the cars is very very limited. Cops make the game hard, you have outlaw and daily challenges like escape 5 minute chase. The reason it's hard is because you have to look for cops, there is a huge deficit of them, takes you 15 minutes on average to find a cop, and it's pain to keep them chasing you, I literally drive under 70 miles an hour and they still manage to lose me, their AI is so bad and it's so easy to lose them it actually makes challenges hard! If anything smashes in to you (other players, AI, cops whatever) only you are damaged and reset, others are fine (oh and you often reset into the pole or into other cars or whatever). I like the soundtrack, no complains here but if there is track I don't like I have to hold the L3 for few seconds to change track which is more than annoying because it makes it almost impossible to drive and you either smash into something or stick with the song you don't like. I still try to understand how could they have such a great games and come out with something so poor. They could've just taken Rivals added some more cop action and tuning and put the action in the city and that's it, but no, they just ruined it. I have never regretted buying something so much and started to wonder why Sony didn't keep their promise of letting people try games before they buy it so I could get a refund or something. The only reason I'm giving this 4/10 are the graphics, and maybe another reason is I'll get extra platinum easily to my collection if I decide to go back to this boring game and do daily challenges. It isn't a 10 game, but i think it isn't a 7 game. The cars are very cool, a great selection. My favourite (the AE86) is in the game too. the races are cool and mixed, you never get bored of racing in NFS.

Overall, the new NFS is not bad. It is certainly one of the better recent years. I was playing great, I graduated with pleasure to the very end. Carbon loved you'll love NFS2015. The graphics are excellent. Driving model is artificial but pleasant. I would give 8 but there is no normal multiplayer mode. Too bad.

I love everything about it. The music, the sound effects of the vehicles, the looks of the game, the feel, the handling etc. I can spend hours just tuning cars exactly the way I want to. And I can spend hours just driving around the streets not even doing "Story" missions. It's very easy to get currency in the game which is fantastic, meaning you're not playing for hours to get just one upgrade which is very nice.

That beings said. A few things that aren't so great.

Handling. Very difficult to get used to at first. After the amount of hours I've put in, I'm just now getting used to it. In drift mode, you're car feels like it just wants to drive itself. In grip mode, it feels like it takes forever to turn. DEPENDING on how well tuned you're vehicle is. The tuning is crucial in this game. There is some driving assists that you can keep on or off. Such as Brake assist and Drift Assist. Having both of these on and your handle meter to the drift side, you'll start to drift just by basically turning. So anyway, handling is a thing to get used to.

    Small things
    - Can't switch your song
    - 5 Cars only (That you can own at a time)
    - Not the biggest library of cars
    - FPS does drop from time to time
    - Wish there was an easier way to look at your friends snapshots individually instead of sifting through every single one of your friends snapshots
    - Game is kinda quiet, just means you gotta turn it up more than you're used to
    - Only 8 players per sever(map)
    - To have a party going you can't be already playing the game, you have to restart and invited your friends before hand to be able to join a game that isn't already full. Because if you're already playing the game is always full with 8 players and you and you cant join or invite. You have to get lucky if the room isn't already full

That's all I have to pick on right now. But all in all the game is great and I love it and I'm addicted to it.

If you're looking for a racing game, this... isn't it. And as far as Arcade racers go, this is pretty piss poor at that as well.

If they have a huge lead on you, they'll start driving at about 100 miles an hour until you catch up.

The car physics is awful, and no matter what you do, there's random driver assists that kick in when you don't want them to, and they CANNOT be turned off completely. You can turn them down, at best, but little more, so if you're a serious racing lover, you'll find your car inexplicably turning randomly, or drifting for 'style' points when you're just wanting to win a race.

And then there's the laughable characters. Sure, throw in some big names, flash some cars... but it's all empty. It's an 8 year olds idea of a racing game. Cars go fast and drift. The end.

And you'll never, ever, be able to drive like you mean it.

As someone who is an avid car fan, regular reader of Speedhunters and love for JDM car culture I am thoroughly enjoying the game. It's not perfect but a really great addition to the series with some seriously cool cars and customizations.

    The goods:
The graphics, cars, and modding is excellent. While the drifting is difficult at first it becomes very rewarding when you turn off "Drift Stability Assist" and get the hang of the throttle control.

I've spent hours visually customizing the cars which, to me is a huge portion of the enjoyment.
The way the FMV's augment your rides into the scenes are also excellently done.

    The bad:
Collision detection seems really off at times. Available parts for cars seems very arbitrary at times and there are not always the options that should be there. For example no tail or headlights for a BRZ when in the real world there tons of choices! Some cars have limited customisation like an R32 GTR!

    General points:
The AI can be questionable but I can see they try and keep the races tight so you always feel like it's a tight race, however sometimes it can be a little annoying being overtake at 360km/h by a 180SX.

Always online... who cars, I never really see other players, they don't bug me and I am online anyway to sign into PSN.

    Advice:
If you get it turn Drift Stability Assist off!!! The system is totally rubbish and it feels like you are constantly wrestling with the games taking over the input.

    To Ghost Games:
I feel like you did rush this a little to get it out. It'd have been nice for you to add some polish to some of the details. I hope that you will be patching the game to sort out some small issues:
    * pop-spawning npc vehicles
    * being able to view car while changing rims,
    * relax the "ai catchup" or rubberbanding
    * make the list of mods more consistent across cars
    * mirror left and right decals
    * decal editor seems kinda hard to use
    * tone down or provide options for steering input. Sometimes it feels like the game is controlling the car not me. I'd almost like a "raw input" mode.

Graphically, Need For Speed is one of the prettiest games I’ve ever seen on the PS4. Ghost took the Frostbite engine, which powers all of Dice’s games including Battlefield and the new Star Wars Battlefront, and created a beautiful fictional city with some of the best car models in any game, ever. The beauty of the game is helped along by full-motion cutscenes that digitally add your car into the background of some of the scenes. While live action cutscenes are cool, sometimes the cheese factor with the actors playing to the camera is greatly increased. With Need For Speed, bring along some macaroni noodles, as there’s more cheese than a broke college student knows what to do with.

When you first meet Spike, he seems like a really pumped guy who only wants to race. But after the third or fourth fist bump from him he starts to get on your nerves. His wackiness and obsession with the Speed king Magnus Walker makes the girls with Bieber fever look normal. That right there is one of the issues with this reboot of the once-great racing franchise. Every character in the so-called “story” is obsessed with the king of their respective discipline.

Manu, the drifter, is driven by a cool mind that yearns for the attention of Ken Block, the big name for this iteration. While the drifting events are usually very easy to complete if you spend more than two seconds tuning your car in the garage, the gymkhana events that come later on are a test of patience and skill, but mostly your will to not throw your controller halfway across the room after just lightly scraping the wall during a big drift and losing your points. Combining speed and drifting into one event sounds like a great idea, but getting that right balance figured out is way too much work for a fairly small payoff.

Amy is the builder of the group, focused on creating the best overall cars that work in a number of events. Luckily, you are given the chance to change your setup in between events to find what works best for the different events that you will face going down Amy’s story. The master builder, Nakai-San, a Japanese builder who created one of the prettiest 1972 Porsche RWBs I’ve ever seen.

Robyn is the Crew-focused driver, where driving with other drivers gets you points. Most of the events in this path line are Drift Trains, where you have to keep up with an A.I. system that takes rubber-banding to the extreme, and more Race- style events. Robyn’s looking for acceptance from the Risky Devil crew, who are all about leaving everything out on the streets and wearing your scars as pride.

Travis is the most secretive of the group, and also (at least by appearance) the oldest. His story is focused on the Outlaw branch, where breaking every law in the book is actively encouraged. Every one of the races in this branch will in some way run into the police, who are also powered by an A.I. that gives them one hell of a catch-up boost. Escaping the police is easiest if you happen to have a fast car, as even though the police can catch up to any of the cars, you can eventually power past them with brute speed. The head Outlaw, Morohoshi-San, drives one of the meanest Lambos ever built.

The bosses are hard but fair. If you screw up, whether it be your fault or the traffic that seems to magically spawn in front of you when going through an intersection, there’s almost no hope of catching them to win the races. Luckily, you usually only have to complete the races to finish the objectives.

The A.I. system that I alluded to earlier seem to have a very fast rubber band attached to you at all times. It can be a good thing, as it allows you to catch up right at the end, but it also means that even in the fastest car that you can build you will have a challenge to win the race. My 1000+ horsepower Lamborghini had a hard time winning races over Amy’s little Nissan 180z. This system can be fun at times as it offers a challenge in the races, but it can get really annoying as well, when you lose races that you should’ve clearly won any day of the week.

All in all, Need For Speed 2015 puts this franchise back onto the rails headed in the right direction, it just fails to give it the initial push that it needs. Even though this games looks absolutely stunning, the cheesy story and rough systems make this game one that is easily skippable, especially in a month that includes Fallout, Tomb Raider, and a new Call of Duty.

The game looks beautiful which makes you want to keep playing, but it does get a tad repetitive. If you like quick an easy money you can just keep racing the same event which after a while becomes a bit boring. There are plenty of races all over the map so you still have a lot of variety.

I didn't think the rubberband AI would be an issue (coming from a mario kart background) and a lot the time it isn't (when i'm in my Aventador racing cars half the speed) but when you are in a matched race it does do your head in...A LOT!!!!

Do I think this game deserves a 10? Absolutely no chance, I really don't see how anyone can justify giving it a 10, unless they're under 18 and don't know games & never played Underground series or the original Most wanted.

Let us not forget, ALL NFS are judged by the greatest of the series, the two Underground games & Most wanted (2005) so there is no way this game is a 10.

On the flip side, if you're on the fence about this game, I would say whatever you choose you won't regret it. This NFS is currently better than every single NFS since Carbon... Because the focus on drifting has changed... We are no longer FORCED into drifting, and finally the customisation is back!

The new NFS has superb customisation options, great tuning options, probably second to only Forza as far as both mechanically and cosmetically. The Graphics are stunning, the sounds from the cars are brilliant & there are a lot of good signs for this game.

If you choose to buy it, I think you'll enjoy it and you'll understand that this is now a good base point for the franchise. If you don't buy it, you won't regret not playing it because as I said, it is a stepping stone... it's not a great game, but for the real NFS series fan, it's a good direction.

The main things that need a lot of work:

    - Story, seriously are there no good writers at EA/Ghost Games? The story is not great, it's way too cheesy & there's no "bad guy". Even if they rehashed a Blacklist, it would have been better.

    - Soundtrack, it was terrible in this game, not even on the same wave length as previous games soundtracks. The best song in the game only plays in the Garage (No Wyld - Odyssey) and the other songs feel like a 12 year old picked them, Although I think Ghost Games is Swedish, which makes sense because their music scene is terrible and that of a teenagers.

-Rubber banding... This is a big one, the catchup feature (Rubber banding) in this game is awful. You can get a good lead of about 5 seconds, and then out of nowhere the AI will pass you at ridiculous speeds, in a car which defies the laws of physics. I wasn't aware a 1970s Porsche could pass a Lamborghini Murcielago so easily. This doesn't belong in racing games in 2015.. We should have evolved from this already.

    - Difficulty, The game is far too easy, aside from the occasional unstoppable overtake which you can easily get back, the game feels like it was made for the worst drivers so they can beat it. There is no difficulty scaling, no option to change it up, so the whole story feels like a Sunday drive, rather than a "thrilling race through the city".

Map- The map is too small, and underwhelming. This is something that can be solved with the next iteration, so i'm not too worried about it right now.

As I said, this Need for Speed is a good step in the right direction, so hopefully they will learn from any mistakes, take on the feed back and make what we all want... Underground 3

The Resurrection and Rebirth or Arcade Racing
Need for Speed is the reboot of this arcade racer that has been around since 1994.
I’ve enjoyed all of the modern need for speeds games, even the cinematic style The Run, but none of them really made my heart sing like Underground 2 did.
I was pleasantly surprised to find out that This Need For Speed reboot pulled me back in again in the way that ps2 era classic did.
The feel of this game is underground from the moment it starts.
Like Underground 2, this game takes place in one giant city at night.
You’re pulled into the underground scene by all of your hashtag hipster friends that say all of your favorite cringe worthy vocabulary that the kids are using today like bae and hand out tons of brofists like they’ve spent too much time watching pewdiepie instead of me.. which hurts my feelings a little bit, but whatever.
Like in Underground 2, there are different style races and challenged spread out around the map that you can freely play in any order you choose. You have the choice to either drive to them or teleport to them which is a huge time saver.
The challenges for the most part consist of time trials, racing, and drifting.
There aren’t all too many circuit races which is kind of a bummer, but I’m torn, this is a street racing game, the races feel like street races more so than they did 9 years ago… but oddly enough I preferred the set tracks with invisible walls and actually miss that more arcardey style of racing..
Need for Speed does do a great job with lighting up the road though to help you stay on track which is great and should honestly be implemented into all open world games… it was nice looking at the world more than staring at a map the for once.
One race style that I’m a little sad to see missing is Drag Racing.. I’ve never been good with manual racing in games.. but they got my heart pumping more than any racing challenge has in the past… but I was horrible at them, so hated them just as much as I loved them.
It would’ve been nice to see them return, but in this world I’m kind of glad they didn’t…
I’m sad to say that the open world in need for speed is pretty bland…
I couldn’t tell once section of the map from the other..
Unlike in underground 2 where unlocking a new section felt like going into an entirely new map, everything is unlocked from the beginning here and it all looks and feels the same.
No variety which means no urge to explore.
There are cops running around that seem to never be there when you want to do an outlaw mission, but they are there for you to mess with, or they’ll occasionally interrupt your street racing..
You can mess with them to build up your fine then escape if you can for a reward or just pull over and pay the small fine you start out with.
The cops are very reasonable in this game, not too aggressive or over powered.
Customization is back with much more freedom with decals and paint, but the variety of body and tire options are nowhere near the golden days of need for speed.
Car Variety is also pretty iffy, and you can purchase the best car in the game about 6 hours in of this 12hour campaign.
The story and cut scenes actually had me wanting more and I was surprised how well the live action scenes actually blended with the game.
While this game isn’t on the level on Underground 2, they are definitely on the right track
I loved my time with Need for Speed, but I have to say that I am mostly disappointed in the fact that this game is always online..
7 other players can join your world at any time, you can set your privacy to invite only if you choose, and you can challenge these friends to races like you could with the ai drivers in underground 2
But even if you won’t want to play with other people, you have to connect to a server for the game to even start.. and honestly I was the only person challenging other people, and only because I felt obligated to as a reviewer… It’s nice to see my friend’s high scores, and kind of cool to try and take on daily challenges, but this all could’ve been done without forcing an online connection…
I also had problems logging in with my sub account on PlayStation 4 thanks to this always online game forcing you to have an origin account to do anything, so prepare to do some hoop jumping if you’re buying this game for your family.

The more I played it, the more I got demotivated. The story is ok, but nothing you really need. The phone calls are so disturbing that I already wanted to mute my tv. Who the hell gets hundreds of calls within a few hours? The next thing that wasn't really necessary was the "no you cannot pause the game. period!" Why the heck can we not just pause the game? Lets move on. What did the developers have in mind when they created the AI? The AI is the most frustrating thing in the game. You can drive like a hero but you will lose! The NPC driver crash the whole time, drive unfair (and I thought that the kiddies in Driveclub are the worst). I got so frustrated while drift train that I almost destroyed my controller. Why do the NPCs drive so slow and as soon as you are a little bit faster they overtake and kick you out that you have no chance to get back to them. This happens the whole time to me. This game still needs a lot of optimization and a mass of patches. I'm so disappointed, frustrated and sad because Need for Speed could have been a hell of a game. Expand

This reboot is fantastic, and far and away better than recent NFS titles. The car customization is deep, and lets the players imagination go wild. The physics are out of this world, and will have you tweaking your tuning after almost every race. I wish there was a quick menu for tuning though, because there are different types of races that call for different tunings, and going back to your garage after every race is sort of tedious. Very good game though, I do recommend it if you like racers. Expand

I've spent hours tweaking and styling cars (and the selection is perfect too by the way). Racing is a blast aswell! You wouldn't believe how satisfying it is to hit those nice drifts around the corners in your unique car.

Now, I've read about the issues that some players have:

    1. Rubberbanding: Someone wrote it is "soul-crushingly unfair" :
Well I have not experienced ANY problems within my playthrough! Yes, there are races where the opponents are crazy fast, but the solution is simple: Earn money, buy a better car and maximze it's performance. You will outstrip any car, even the hard-difficulty opponents. It is that simple!

    2. Always online: So what? I don't travel with my console and most of us have stable internet at home.
And if the servers are offline? Well there are other things to do in the meantime.. Come on!

    3. No cockpit view: Yeah, could have been a feature. But honestly it wouldnt work with the game, you constantly drift from left to right. You wouldnt be able to drive like that. After all you also might want to admire the awesome car you built at any given time.

    4. No Manual transmission: Could have been a feature as well, but seriously.. Is it really that big of a deal for you guys?

    5. The cutscenes are "cringeworthy":
They are not... I really enjoyed the cutscences. They add a lot the the experience and I am happy that they went with the choice of real actors.

Now lets do a little Pro/Con

Pros (More my favorites about the game:
    - Gameplay (Racing is as blast!)
    - Customization (If you can imagine it, you can build it!)
    - Soundtrack (For me always ultra important.. Soundtrack is a 10/10 aswell)
    - Details (For example: if you install a sound-system in your car: You stop outside the garage and the song playing sounds like it comes out of your car. Even the trunk makes a "rattle sound" like if you had installed a subwoofer)

    Cons:
    - It is true that theres nothing really left to do after you completed the story.
(But have to be creative. Buy cars, customize them and drive your favorite events again, do the daily challenges.)

So honestly. This game is perfect for you if you want to experience the "underground days" again.

This game looks amazing and the customization is out of this world! Its a decent arcade racing game and its pretty fun. However, the AI for driving could be a bit better and the cutscenes are just so cringeworthy. Also the always online, server problems and not being able to pause is a terrible idea! Overall, its a fun game, but I would not buy this again if I had the chance.

I think NFS is going to the right direction with this reboot. There are some stupid things they have decided on this game but those are small things an could be patched in the future.

For me this game is a weak 7. If it had an offline mode, manual shifting and playing with friends i would give this an 8. And more things like crew management, crew vs crew play etc it could have been a 9/10. So much potential. It could have been so much more!

The only thing I can think of is that EA didn't give GHOST enough time to develop this game to its full potential.

The rubberbanding effect is mediocre and frustrating. Last minute you're about to win here comes a "rocket propelled" miata for the win out of nowhere. Then on top of all these frustrations the game stops your progression by forcing you into car that is slower than your opponents and not allow you to tune it and gives the faster car a head start and tells you to win. This kind of gameplay has to have been thought of by some retard.

Then there is the always online. I have to keep hitting "X" on the tittle screen for 30 minutes before it lets me into the game. which is stupid since I don't play with other players no do I ever see them in game.

Overall, don;y be fooled by the visuals and the ads. This game is **** and its light years away from being a proper arcade racing game.

I have avoided EA games for this reason, yet I hoped they have changed. Never again will I ever fall for this trap. My advice is: save your money and not buy it or wait for this game to be in the $1 bin to buy it. That's how insignificant this game is.

    Pros:
Few games allow the fantastic level of function customizability to the vehicles you drive in such a simple way, you can feel the difference, and after some fine tuning you can really make your car suit your game style. The graphics are amazing, so much so that they almost blend entirely with the terrible live action footage that encompasses all of the story, but more on that later. The racing itself really is fantastic, and though there are a few issues with physics, the majority of the actual gameplay really is wonderful.
    Cons:
The cutscenes. They don't make any sense, and for the life of me, I can't figure out why they chose to go this route. These cutscenes would be bearable though, if not for the asinine characters, who are essentially sentient cardboard cut-outs of what old people imagine young people to be, whose vernacular and dialogue was entirely learned by reading a Canadian twitter account that exists simply to make fun of young people. They are atrocious and the only redeeming quality about the phone calls that deliver story and objectives, is that you can hang up the phone without hearing them, and get access to the content anyway. The entire game is online only, and thus there is no pause screen. The design really is terrible here, with a DRM feeling that just can't be overlooked. I mean what if I have to drop some heat? I guess I'll just have to turn off the engine and sit in the car. On top of that there is no way to restart a race while you're in it, so if you have an inevitable slip up, you're just going to have to ride it out at the back of the pack. Another really poor design decision.
This is essentially a breakdown of the game for you, it's great when it does what the game is good at, letting you drive. It's bland story and so-bad-they-are-actually-offensive characters, as well as the really unfortunate design choices keep this from being a great game, or even really a good game.
    I give this game a 2.... out of 5. So a 4.

I've found the handling to be a bit touchy but once you find your frove its fantastic. As mentioned before customization is fantastic. I wish there were more cars to choose from but otherwise i love the game. My biggest issues with the game would have to be lack of daytime, no pausing, and that its always raining (would like a more dynamic weather system). I like the idea of the city beong populated with real drivers, but there should be an option to turn that off. If you can get past those fairly minor hiccups the game is fantastic. Expand

There is a great game in there, somewhere, but it is severely hindered by always online DRM, no multiplayer hobby or no easy way to get a multiplayer game going aside from inviting friends. I fear for its long-term playability as a result. What is the point of having made an awesome paintjob on a car if no one is ever going to see it? Having random players in the open world adds almost nothing and is clearly just a convenient excuse for the always online requirement. Even then, the game tries to get local players into your world, but if you live in a remote area, your game world could end up being rather empty...

Graphically it is beautiful, not entirely sure that i love ghe perpetual rain and njght, but it sure does look pretty. Sounds are also done really well for the cars and with a good surround sound setup you can easily pick where your opponents are just by sound alone.

Ive only played ablut 5 hours so can't speak much of the story... though if you play a racing game for the story then its safe to bet you're probably not in the right genre...

Where NFS falls down for me is the handling and AI. I might be too used to realistic racers like forza and gran turismo at this point, but for the life of me i cannot get used to the driving. Forever am i careening into walls or running smack straight inti a parked car. The AI rubber banding is annoying as fck. I mean this is quite literally like they all have a massive elastic band strapped to your car that just waits for the perfect moment to snap back and they all of a sudden fly past you without a care. Its indescribably frustrating. The "always online" i find dubious at best... but whatevs.

All in all, i WANT to love this and i WANT it to be amazing. But is simply isn't for the reasons above. For me i will more than likely end up returning it for a full refund simply becauae i am too furstrated by the AI and driving mechanics.

It's an extrmely enjoyable game, Often I do not like arcade handling racers, but drifting and cornering in need 4 speed is thrilling & rewarding. I prefer this handling over criterion's burnout style handling. I love burnout for what it is but need for speed should not turn into a burnout game. For me Need for speed should be for car lovers and should give the excitement that comes with driving an exotic vehicle. This is what need 4 speed does right and this is the most important rating factor for me.
Customizing is great but parts are limited or non existent for some cars, the rubberbanding like often mentioned is retarded (though it does push you to the max certain times). In one word AMAZING, some glitches though especially when you are on the mountains you some strange line across the screen. Hope they fix it, and I believe it's fixable.
    Customization:
Deep and one of the reason you would want to buy this game. BUT I wish they put feature to COPY the decals so that you can place exact same on other side of a car. Otherwise it takes hours just to align your decals on both sides so it would be symmetric. At least put some alignment tools so I can make exact same decal on both sides of my car. I don't like puffy, sketchy, random, meaningless customization (matter of taste); I love the elegance, class and meaningful decals. Like M3's 3 lines... So yeah ALIGNMENT tools, we need that.
    Driving:
I don't know why people complain about it, I essentially love how you can tune your car so you can fit the to your style. It would have been worse if everyone had same settings. Instead you have a chance to trial and error option. You try different tuning styles until you find the one that you like the best. I liked the driving.

The graphics on this game are amazing. VB is a gorgeous place to drive. The cars look and sound great. After messing with the tuning, I've found a great setup for what I have right now, and can easily change it for races if I wish.

The various skills - speed, outlaw, etc - is a neat way to track rep. I do wish the soundtrack was more like the original NFSU/2, but it's not terrible. The rubberbanding AI is probably to most annoying, but really it's like what I remember when playing NFSU/2. The always online bugs me a bit, but it is what it is.

Overall, this is a great game to have fun with. It's not meant to break the barrier of gaming and real life, it's meant for you to enjoy yourself, slide your car around corners, use NOS at ridiculous times, and to make a statement with your vehicle. Solid buy for me or anyone who enjoyed NFSU/2.

The driving is actually pretty good if you want drift tune to drift if you want grip go for it. Now the negatives. The story is pretty short and can have some cheesy Dialogue, after 5 minutes I wanted to punch spike in the face he is by far one of the worst characters ever. Also the Rep system is pretty cool but its way too fast to level up. Day one one of my friends had an aventador and was level 41 which is kind of crazy. Lastly the always online feature can be a bit annoying even though we have dedicated servers, me and some of my friends lagged out maybe it was because day one but still there was a beta for this. So to conclude Need for Speed is a fine game with beautiful graphics, nice driving and great customization but is brought down my a short story easy progression system and bad servers. Expand

N4S was one of my all time favorite racing games and THE racer to get, well up until Most Wanted, after that it has been a downward spiral and so in an attempt to get back to the glory days of N4S, EA and Ghost Games have brought us a the latest version of the franchise simply named Need for Speed. There is no doubt that it is a shiny game with gorgeous graphics but unfortunately all this game does is prove that great looking graphics does not make a game. A positive of this game is the customization, you can do almost anything short of rebranding the car, add that to the great visuals and you cant help thinking that you have built a sweet ride, as well it should be but this is where the gameplay lets you down. The potential is there but you cant help feeling that Ghost Games really missed out on a great opportunity here. Even for an arcade game, in my opinion, the handling of the cars, is to say the least, sluggish compared to other racers of the same genre. When it comes to the story you cant help thinking why Ghost Games even bothered? It is poorly written and the acting is just as bad, add to that the constant annoyance of the phone calls even mid race and does not make for a good experience.

DRM is pretty much a hated term especially in gaming and even though EA claims that always online is for the benefit of the players and is not DRM, the fact is, that it is. Ghost gave a bunch of reasons why N4S is always online and it all points to a better experience, the sad truth of it all is that it is not and none of the reasons that they gave really justifies why the game should be "always online". If you have a poor connection or your internet is down for a period of time the game will be inaccessible.

Because this is an opinion piece I cannot directly tell you not to buy this game but with other great racing games out there like DriveClub and Forza which offer great visuals with a better driving experience and isnt marred by DRM, you have to ask yourself, why would you want to buy it.

Another thing that really put me off were the live action cut scenes, they're just really boring and kill immersion. The characters are flat and missions are not as well designed as previous NFS games. The worst part is that this game is always online... that just sucks. Whoever decided to make this game always online needs to go f**k himself. This is a critical design flaw as online interactions are very rare. This game would be better if they just removed that. The Good:

The Car models look pretty good.
The music and sounds of the game sound fantastic so kudos there.

    Now the bad:
The city doesn't feel alive. Minimal traffic from the parts I saw and not a ton of racers in the streets.

The customization is severely lacking for a lot of cars. The FRBZ-86 triplets have ridiculous amounts of customization where as other cars like the Volvo have barely any. There's no apparent rhyme or reason as to why either, it's like they just threw darts at a dartboard with car mods attached to it and went with whatever the arrows hit. Why even have cars like the Volvo in there with little to no customization when there are choices like the 350z/370z, S14, Evo X, Chaser, etc. which has tons of cosmetic and performance mods available? It's honestly kind of baffling to me.

Rim selection is also skewed. Again, the triplets have a ton of rims available but during the stream when the player was going through the rims there was a noticeable drop off in available models for the Evo and RX-7.

Cops are garbage and way too easy to get away from. There was no radio chatter between the cops just the "intense" get away from the cops music.

Rubber banding AI is still prevalent, maybe not as bad as the beta but it's still very noticeable.

The phone is ringing off the hook 24/7. I don't need Spike's punk ass telling me what to do and I don't want Robyn calling me all the time trying to get me into a drift train love triangle. Let me race and do my own thing with calls every once in a while or have them send a text message instead of calling me when the game wants to remind me to do something.

My final and most important thing, the handling its horrendous. I get that there's the slider and you can adjust it the way that you want to but I shouldn't have to suffer driving a bar of soap on rails until I can afford/unlock the required upgrades to be able to drive properly. I'm not asking for Gran Turismo, Assetto Corsa or even FM6 levels of handling, I just want to be able to drive in a straight line going really fast, make a slight movement on the joy stick and not initiate a drift. Grip settings make it so you can't race properly so you're then forced to make the car a hodgepodge of drift and grip. I shouldn't have to work this hard to be able to enjoy your game.

There are a lot of other good ideas that I agree with but these issues seemed like the most pressing to me personally and are big reasons why I'm taking a wait and see approach with this game versus it being a day 1 buy like it used to be before the beta and live streams. I hope Ghost Games can figure it out because I would hate to see NFS end with an attempt to make it great that misses all the key points.

At this point the rubberbanding is bad enough that it makes me feel very regretful for preordering the game. I'll keep playing to see if I can tolerate it, but I don't see it getting any better.     Come on, this is ilegal street racing we are talking about, so they have to be made at night. We still have here the front view so you can race without the cockpit view for sure. The customization in this game is INSANE, truly incredible for the tuning fans and Underground lovers. The gameplay is arcade and very good, the graphics are awesome and the campaign in first-person makes you feel part of it. As for the "always online" haters, the game has a reason for it. You race in and you see a lot of people online, they can even interfere in your races during your event. There's always someone online on the streets and the share picture feature with the comunity is awesome. So what I'm saying is, if you are a Underground fan, don't listen the hate and give this game a chance. It's not 10/10, but it is a good solid street racing tuning experience;

First off, it needs a constant internet connection at all times to even play it. Yeah, it is an always online game! The weird thing is, it shouldn't even need one there is no reason for it at all. All past Need For Speed games didn't need a constant internet connection to play, so why does this one? My internet can be quite patchy, so i found myself unable to play the game at all while my internet connection was patchy. Also, because it needs a constant online connection, the game does stutter quite a bit in places. It spoils the game entirely. The handling is awful and takes a long time to get used to. I've played a lot of racing games over the years and get used to the handling pretty quickly. But not with this game, it takes a time. The game world feels empty and dull. As a result the game get's very boring very quickly. The cut scenes are just laughably cringeworthy and bad. They try so hard to be cool that they fail miserably. The A.I is poor. I've been about half a mile behind, only for the other racers to slow down until i catch them up. Once you catch them up, and you will catch them up stupidly quick, they all of a sudden want to race again. They have done this in an attempt to make the races exciting, but it just feels silly. All race games have a form of catch up on them, but this was is the worst because it is so blatently obvious. There is also no option for manual shift. Which is very odd given that this game has a lot of customization. The customization is one of the only good things about this game. There is quite a lot to customize like previous underground games. Just a shame the rest of the game spoils it. The graphics are good in places. Sound is also quite good. So, if you are looking to relive the glory days of Need For Speed Undergound 1 and 2, forget it, its not happening with this entry. There are glimpses of nostalgia, which is what it is going for, but they are so poorly done it doesn't compare to the Underground games of the past. It doesn't even add anything new. Expand

-The story is short and leaves you with almost nothing to do when you're done
-Ultra dumb AI that you will blast past in the beggining of every race only to have them catch up to you towards the end because of some terrible rubberbanding
-Always online which DOES NOT WORK WITH YOUR SERVERS EA. Expect to get randomly thrown out of OFFLINE races because of connection problems
-Graphically it sometimes looks amazing, but mostly boring and slightly ugly. Now this is not really a problem for me except there are some major frame drops when going from dusk to dawn and occasionally mid race.
-The city is dull. There are little to no cars driving around and you sometimes have the feeling you're in a Walking Dead Episode
    -NO Wheel support
-NO manual transmission, which for my part would not be a problem as long as the automatic one works, but it doesn't and sometimes your speed out of a corner is completely ruined due to the fact that the car refuses to shift downwards

    Pros:
+Great customization on most cars which gives each car an individual feel and will have you playing to upgrade that part, or get to that bumper or body kit
+Nice tuning capabilities which allow you to play the game as a true arcade game or a slightly more sim racer
    +Good car handling
All in all this is NOT the NFS reboot most of us were expecting, although it is slowly heading in the right direction. The only thing the devs need to do is to LISTEN to the community and remove the always online ****

The AI is much improved from over the beta and there is no longer that 'magical boost' the AI would get in the beta.
Customization is top notch! I love being able to change my bumpers, go wide body, add splitters, change wings, change trunk lids, even adjust the stance to make the wheels flush or make em poke if you want. I LOVE IT. The fact that you can fully max out an original AE86 with all the crazy body kits is enough for you, if you are an Underground fan, to enjoy the game immensely. Do not trust review especially by IGN because they didn't even mention the customization part in the final marking scheme, this is plain stupid.

What's up with the dummy accounts in the user reviews? Somebody paid them to do these? Need for Speed is a decent racing game but does not deserve to have 9's or 10's. There's nothing wrong with the game itself; the problem is, it's so normal that it basically makes everything dull. An ok racing game that doesn't leave up to it's predecessors.

Best Need for speed since Blackbox's undercover! I personal very enjoy this games. Hope ghost games's next need for speed will bring the daytime back. Customization is awesome. In fact the FMV is not bad at all.
    Thank you, Ghost games!

Best NFS since Underground 2, no joke.

Sure, there's some issues, it's not perfect but the awesome customization, great progression system and great graphics makes it stand out from the rest. All it needs is a little fine tuning like stability and extra parts and cars and it could very well be the best racing game this gen so far! Don't listen to the haters! This game is

    Finally amazing NFS experience.

Just bought it few hours ago. I really enjoying it so far. Great customization. Awesome graphics. Fun cut scenes. So much customization, I love it. I played 2.5 hours so far. It all I’ve missed in NFS series. Truly exciting single player experience. Love driving at night and now I have so much of it. Choosing BRZ out of first 3 cars was no brainer for

Choosing BRZ out of first 3 cars was no brainer for me, I love it, so much customization for it.
Based on the first impressions. I love it and can’t wait to get back home and play some more.
If you want another online racing game go look elsewhere, if you enjoy single player street racing games this just for you.
For those who complain about driving experience, it’s an arcade game which supposed to be fun and it is. If you want realistic (authentic handling) driving experience buy a real car with a stick and start driving. It is like complaining that sex doll does not feel like a real thing.

Almost forgot drifting is so amazing in this game.

10 out of 10 for me

Perfect arcade all about driving fantastic cars in the night, bad weather and marvelous mornings. Nothing more, nothing less. You could be disappointed if you expect something bigger.

Need for Speed is a well-wrought game, full of interesting features, albeit without many fresh ideas. However, it is prone to deliver most of the gamers in the uncomfortable arms of boredom sooner than later, although it is bound to satisfy the hardcore fans.

The latest Need for Speed feels old in every aspect. The driving model, the AI, the story and the characters, the environments – all of it is simply poor. [13/2015, p.68]

Need for Speed’s decent feel of driving and nice tuning options don’t amount to much when coupled with harsh rubber banding, boring environments and a terrible forced story mode. [Dec 2015]
