Rubberbanding AI feels almost soul-crushingly unfair. What is the point of being good at a racing game if the AI can catch up with little to no regard to a lead that you build up? At this point the rubberbanding is bad enough that it makes me feel very regretful for preordering the game. I'll keep playing to see if I can tolerate it, but I don't see it getting any better. If it doesn't, then it's a deal-breaker.

    Cons:
-Terrible dialogue in the story that is nothing but cringeworthy and really drag you out of the experience
-The story is short and leaves you with almost nothing to do when you're done
-Ultra dumb AI that you will blast past in the beggining of every race only to have them catch up to you towards the end because of some terrible rubberbanding
-Always online which DOES NOT WORK WITH YOUR SERVERS EA. Expect to get randomly thrown out of OFFLINE races because of connection problems
-Graphically it sometimes looks amazing, but mostly boring and slightly ugly. Now this is not really a problem for me except there are some major frame drops when going from dusk to dawn and occasionally mid race.
-The city is dull. There are little to no cars driving around and you sometimes have the feeling you're in a Walking Dead Episode
    -NO Wheel support
-NO manual transmission, which for my part would not be a problem as long as the automatic one works, but it doesn't and sometimes your speed out of a corner is completely ruined due to the fact that the car refuses to shift downwards

    Pros:
+Great customization on most cars which gives each car an individual feel and will have you playing to upgrade that part, or get to that bumper or body kit
+Nice tuning capabilities which allow you to play the game as a true arcade game or a slightly more sim racer
    +Good car handling
All in all this is NOT the NFS reboot most of us were expecting, although it is slowly heading in the right direction. The only thing the devs need to do is to LISTEN to the community and remove the always online ****

Another thing that really put me off were the live action cut scenes, they're just really boring and kill immersion. The characters are flat and missions are not as well designed as previous NFS games. The worst part is that this game is always online... that just sucks. Whoever decided to make this game always online needs to go f**k himself. This is a critical design flaw as online interactions are very rare. This game would be better if they just removed that. Let's start with the good. The graphics are quite amazing and the customization allows for many amazing creations. Then from there on it is downhill for need for speed.

The rubberbanding effect is mediocre and frustrating. Last minute you're about to win here comes a "rocket propelled" miata for the win out of nowhere. Then on top of all these frustrations the game stops your progression by forcing you into car that is slower than your opponents and not allow you to tune it and gives the faster car a head start and tells you to win. This kind of gameplay has to have been thought of by some retard.

Then there is the always online. I have to keep hitting "X" on the tittle screen for 30 minutes before it lets me into the game. which is stupid since I don't play with other players no do I ever see them in game.

Overall, don;y be fooled by the visuals and the ads. This game is **** and its light years away from being a proper arcade racing game.

I have avoided EA games for this reason, yet I hoped they have changed. Never again will I ever fall for this trap. My advice is: save your money and not buy it or wait for this game to be in the $1 bin to buy it. That's how insignificant this game is.

Choosing BRZ out of first 3 cars was no brainer for me, I love it, so much customization for it.
Based on the first impressions. I love it and can’t wait to get back home and play some more.
If you want another online racing game go look elsewhere, if you enjoy single player street racing games this just for you.
For those who complain about driving experience, it’s an arcade game which supposed to be fun and it is. If you want realistic (authentic handling) driving experience buy a real car with a stick and start driving. It is like complaining that sex doll does not feel like a real thing.

Almost forgot drifting is so amazing in this game.

First off, it needs a constant internet connection at all times to even play it. Yeah, it is an always online game! The weird thing is, it shouldn't even need one there is no reason for it at all. All past Need For Speed games didn't need a constant internet connection to play, so why does this one? My internet can be quite patchy, so i found myself unable to play the game at all while my internet connection was patchy. Also, because it needs a constant online connection, the game does stutter quite a bit in places. It spoils the game entirely. The handling is awful and takes a long time to get used to. I've played a lot of racing games over the years and get used to the handling pretty quickly. But not with this game, it takes a time. The game world feels empty and dull. As a result the game get's very boring very quickly. The cut scenes are just laughably cringeworthy and bad. They try so hard to be cool that they fail miserably. The A.I is poor. I've been about half a mile behind, only for the other racers to slow down until i catch them up. Once you catch them up, and you will catch them up stupidly quick, they all of a sudden want to race again. They have done this in an attempt to make the races exciting, but it just feels silly. All race games have a form of catch up on them, but this was is the worst because it is so blatently obvious. There is also no option for manual shift. Which is very odd given that this game has a lot of customization. The customization is one of the only good things about this game. There is quite a lot to customize like previous underground games. Just a shame the rest of the game spoils it. The graphics are good in places. Sound is also quite good. So, if you are looking to relive the glory days of Need For Speed Undergound 1 and 2, forget it, its not happening with this entry. There are glimpses of nostalgia, which is what it is going for, but they are so poorly done it doesn't compare to the Underground games of the past. It doesn't even add anything new. Expand

N4S was one of my all time favorite racing games and THE racer to get, well up until Most Wanted, after that it has been a downward spiral and so in an attempt to get back to the glory days of N4S, EA and Ghost Games have brought us a the latest version of the franchise simply named Need for Speed. There is no doubt that it is a shiny game with gorgeous graphics but unfortunately all this game does is prove that great looking graphics does not make a game. A positive of this game is the customization, you can do almost anything short of rebranding the car, add that to the great visuals and you cant help thinking that you have built a sweet ride, as well it should be but this is where the gameplay lets you down. The potential is there but you cant help feeling that Ghost Games really missed out on a great opportunity here. Even for an arcade game, in my opinion, the handling of the cars, is to say the least, sluggish compared to other racers of the same genre. When it comes to the story you cant help thinking why Ghost Games even bothered? It is poorly written and the acting is just as bad, add to that the constant annoyance of the phone calls even mid race and does not make for a good experience.

DRM is pretty much a hated term especially in gaming and even though EA claims that always online is for the benefit of the players and is not DRM, the fact is, that it is. Ghost gave a bunch of reasons why N4S is always online and it all points to a better experience, the sad truth of it all is that it is not and none of the reasons that they gave really justifies why the game should be "always online". If you have a poor connection or your internet is down for a period of time the game will be inaccessible.

Because this is an opinion piece I cannot directly tell you not to buy this game but with other great racing games out there like DriveClub and Forza which offer great visuals with a better driving experience and isnt marred by DRM, you have to ask yourself, why would you want to buy it.

The music and sounds of the game sound fantastic so kudos there.

    Now the bad:
The city doesn't feel alive. Minimal traffic from the parts I saw and not a ton of racers in the streets.

The customization is severely lacking for a lot of cars. The FRBZ-86 triplets have ridiculous amounts of customization where as other cars like the Volvo have barely any. There's no apparent rhyme or reason as to why either, it's like they just threw darts at a dartboard with car mods attached to it and went with whatever the arrows hit. Why even have cars like the Volvo in there with little to no customization when there are choices like the 350z/370z, S14, Evo X, Chaser, etc. which has tons of cosmetic and performance mods available? It's honestly kind of baffling to me.

Rim selection is also skewed. Again, the triplets have a ton of rims available but during the stream when the player was going through the rims there was a noticeable drop off in available models for the Evo and RX-7.

Cops are garbage and way too easy to get away from. There was no radio chatter between the cops just the "intense" get away from the cops music.

Rubber banding AI is still prevalent, maybe not as bad as the beta but it's still very noticeable.

The phone is ringing off the hook 24/7. I don't need Spike's punk ass telling me what to do and I don't want Robyn calling me all the time trying to get me into a drift train love triangle. Let me race and do my own thing with calls every once in a while or have them send a text message instead of calling me when the game wants to remind me to do something.

My final and most important thing, the handling its horrendous. I get that there's the slider and you can adjust it the way that you want to but I shouldn't have to suffer driving a bar of soap on rails until I can afford/unlock the required upgrades to be able to drive properly. I'm not asking for Gran Turismo, Assetto Corsa or even FM6 levels of handling, I just want to be able to drive in a straight line going really fast, make a slight movement on the joy stick and not initiate a drift. Grip settings make it so you can't race properly so you're then forced to make the car a hodgepodge of drift and grip. I shouldn't have to work this hard to be able to enjoy your game.

There are a lot of other good ideas that I agree with but these issues seemed like the most pressing to me personally and are big reasons why I'm taking a wait and see approach with this game versus it being a day 1 buy like it used to be before the beta and live streams. I hope Ghost Games can figure it out because I would hate to see NFS end with an attempt to make it great that misses all the key points.

The fact that you can fully max out an original AE86 with all the crazy body kits is enough for you, if you are an Underground fan, to enjoy the game immensely. Do not trust review especially by IGN because they didn't even mention the customization part in the final marking scheme, this is plain stupid.

I suggest that anyone scoring this more than 6 either doesn't engage in the game completely, does not possess a competitive edge or worse still, has some alternative investment for doing so.

My first review, after a few days, looks generous; but now, almost 3 weeks on and perhaps a little over 200 hours play [shared between xbox and ps4], I'm struggling to rate it any higher than 4/10
I suggest that anyone scoring this more than 6 either doesn't engage in the game completely, does not possess a competitive edge or worse still, has some alternative investment for doing so.

My first review, after a few days, looks generous; but now, almost 3 weeks on and perhaps a little over 200 hours play [shared between xbox and ps4], I'm struggling to rate it any higher than 4/10

So lets get the source of these 4 points out of the way:
It has a very acceptable choice of cars, modifications and handling dynamics [1point.] There is a good variety of events, from easy to very challenging, and in the main they are enjoyable [1 point] The vinyl editor is fiddly and limited but with patience plus creativity, you can just about achieve anything [1 point] There is the environment, themed as it is, a bit on the gloomy side, but large enough, varied enough and interesting enough [1 point]

    Now, the pointless;
I will start with the glaringly obvious statement of 'This is a racing game' and, as the game and franchise reminds us, there is a 'Need For Speed.' For the casual player this is perhaps not an issue but for those of us who vigorously compete against all-comers, it is vital that the Speedwalls give us the information required and are geared up for competitive racing. This means event completion times need to, and must, go beyond minutes & seconds, we simply must have tenths & hundredths of seconds, maybe even thousandths. This level of accuracy is vital, these fractions are the difference between being first and being the first loser; the rivalry that exists in online racing is intense. The speedwall should also be available automatically & immediately after an event ends without having to wait around 10 seconds for the cinematic to return you to 'free-roam' and without having to perform 3 actions to view the updated information. The first thing a racer wants to know once they hit that finish line is 'how did I do & how does that affect my position' Perhaps every Speedwall should be 'topped' with the 'World Record' for that event?

I get so annoyed that games are released with so many flaws, bugs and glitches. When a blockbuster Movie is released it is finished and polished, it is the definitive article; not so with games it appears, and certainly not the last 2 instalments of 'Need For Speed'. If one player can find so many flaws in 2 weeks of playing you must ask yourself “how come the production teams never spotted them?” or did they? And if they did, why aren't they fixed before release? The lure of the Lira?, the must be out in time for Christmas sales? Or worst still, a two-fingers up to the customers and an acceptance of this is as good as it gets .. warts an all.

We have 'route-tracks' to lead us through the events but many are very poorly placed, follow them at your peril. There are checkpoints in absurd places, some of which, if you drive a 'racing-line' you will miss completely and effectively your race is over. There are 'invisible hazards on race tracks that either stop you dead, make you crash or launch you like a missile into the air. The starts to events are awful, as you come out of the cinematic, you can be face to face with a truck or even facing in the wrong direction. The 'multiplayer' [again, just like in Rivals] is totally impractical and can only be achieved with careful planning and an absurd routine. It's sad that games such as GTA V can handle all of these issues flawlessly and yet, a much more dedicated racing franchise fails miserable on all points.

A car racing game with no steering-wheel support, no manual gears and unbelievably, no car horn [which was about the only one sure way to attract the attention of your fellow lobby players]

Of course I'm nit-picking, I paid plenty of money for an over-hyped average game with AI cars that attack you on every turn, trucks with 5-watt tail lights that are set like traps for you to impact into at 370km/h and cars suddenly spawning right in front of you as you hurtle down the freeway or canyon winds. 'Collectibles' that are lame, tame and pointless [literally], sweeping blue-light flashes that constantly blind you as you approach that right-hander at great speed [where one of them trucks will be waiting] off course this is all more noticeable once you have passed the cinematic story and the constant phone calls and messages and have entered the realm of racing against your peers.

How about a little more customisation on all cars, some offer very little indeed. In the vinyl editor, give us some manufacturers decals and badges, a few different fonts and a more precise control over placement. Those garages! Why cant we drive through them and have our damaged cars made good, like we did in Most Wanted or Rivals. Why is there no 'photo-mode', we love taking photos of our custom rides.

Finally, I ask myself this question “ are the developers, producers, EA Games, Ghost Games, all happy with the work they have done on this game. Are they satisfied that they have produced the best they could but more importantly, how can they not see the issues I do?”

Every single time we hear the same proclamation ”we listen to you, the players” .. okay, listening is fine but do us a favour, take what you hear, learn from your mistakes, scour the best things from other titles, take the advice from the experts and make the next one awesome .. it may be your final opportunity.

On the other hand, there is very few things to like here - for some reason, important things are dumbed down and were produced with poor quality.

+ NFS about streetracing: been awhile, can feel fresh when playing.
+ Cars modifications. They did really good job here, and we are even having neon in upcoming patch. If you wanted to make your dream car, this is the game for you.
+ Video. Well, the story isn't good this time, but we have videos with actors - it's rare for racing game.

All these mentioned above can add a good touch to the game, but this doesnt make the game! The big problem lies in gameplay and interaction with the game/players, and it is hella bad.

    - Physics model. STOP MAKING RACING GAMES ON BUGGY **** FROSTBITE. The worst driving feel I ever had in racing games. The adjusting bar from drift to grip is a trap - grip car barely moves, and just turns much slower compared to drift, hence forcing you to drift. And you can barely control the car, you just don't feel it touching the ground. Like you are driving a big chunk of soap instead of a car. This is essential. You get no satisfaction from driving - game will suck, no matter how much other stuff you added (and there was not enough stuff added). You can get used to it, but it is just a pain in ass, you basically try to withstand the driving experience instead of enjoying it.

    - Main "bosses" of the game. I can see where the whole budget gone, seeing those people all invited and playing in videos. And it is bad. Not that they play bad, no, they are awesome. The thing that you dont get satisfaction from winning the important race. When you win let's say, Ken Block, you don't achieve **** - he says something that you are a cool guy. That's all. You play the game to show off to some random dude. Not to defeat, escape, dominate, put any word that brings up competitive spirit. You just don't give a **** This ruins story and motivation.

-Always online and multiplayer overall. You have to be always online (apparently because of twitter integration, for **** sake, what games have become these days), which is ofc bad, but well, not a big deal. The serious problems come with actual multiplayer. Bringing and starting race with your friend can be pain in ass, but hell, I will endure it. Developers stepped on the big mine, made a huge mistake for the sake of "broader appeal". Anyone can join your race in the middle of it. and some races can happen on the same area. Most of the time, some random retard just smashes into your car from nowhere, block the road and just pisses off. Different races can occur at the same area, and not phased out - you **** up each other's races. Gratz, EA.

    - Videos are weird, most of them show some random clubs, conversations, more clubs, some fastfood restaurants, etc. With some people talking **** barely related to game. They don't show actual cars (unless you are in your garage), some racing, nothing.

    - Police is disgustingly weak. No reaction, bad driving, they are even unavailable in some regions of the map. Strong feeling that they were added in a last second "just to be there", and made easy enough so your 7 yo would be not too overwhelmed. The heck, Finding police is harder than escaping them. Throughout the game I NEVER got caught. They cant catch you even with destroyed tires.

    - AI. Second big complain after driving model, AI sucks balls deep. They are weak, stupid, always crash and **** up your drifting-driving(even ally, yes, you have team races). In addition, there is the most retarded "balance" system in racing games. Cars teleport and gain light speed shamelessly. Just check your minimap - No matter how the car crashes, your enemy teleports somewhere behind you, gains SUPERB acceleration out of nowhere, just to reach you and be near you, just to catch enother "tree" again.

    - Bugs, or more like frostbite shenanigans physics point two. Car tends to glitch out when doing a jump from small ramp, etc. Car can collide with invisible bull**** when you are turning. Car collision itself made retardedly.

    - Graphics. It's not that visuals are not beautiful, oh they are. Very bad lightning job. Too much extra effects on the road and world, which are not lightning sources - same problem was carbon, and on high speeds you basically can't see **** Usually you can barely see your car to be honest - not a single light source highlight your car externally, and car's light fades off hard from random blue-purple-gray bull**** happening on the road.

Decent try. It could be a good game if developers actually had more time to fix problems. Games definitely feels rushed. Few cars, not fixing obvious problems (driving, police, physics) makes game barely enjoyable. Do not buy this game. Wait for some kind of discount and patches with content - but I really doubt that developers will release patch which will fix AI or driving mod

5- A polícia é extremamente burra.

The weather is allways rainy and the time is always night (yeh yeh, like old underground style), but there's no motion or dynamics on the streets.. it feels like you're in a ghost town racing for your own, there's no magic in it, and sometimes a cop shows up.. The graphics are great, but that's not all..

Gee I don't know if the damper setting is better HERE, HERE or HERE. I LOOOVED Rivals, you work, you earn, you spend, you improve - done.

This game - I've played the first race seven times - the AI slingshots past me always at the same spot, on a straight and with no way for me to go any faster.

The story line dialog is one thing...horrible...absolutely horrible. Unnecessarily drags out the time you have to wait to finally play.

Overall I am very disappointed. Graphics are great, no question. But it's not the gameplay I expected, not at all.

The AI is pretty bad and especially the cops AI is so bad I can't imagine a worthy comparison.
And than there is the Always-On feature. It's the worst decision ever taken after Sim City. Lost connection, saving failure after races, everything occurred not just once, but couple of times and you can't pause a SINGLEPLAYER Game.
The only two things that are not completely horrible but nothing worth mentioning are graphics, which are kinda okay but lack a fluent presentation due to the stupid framelock and the customization IF you mean color and decal customization, because for most cars there are like 2 or 3 parts that can be changed at max.

First of all, the handling. It ruins the entire game. Then there's the drifting mechanic... It's shockingly bad. There is no in between with this game, either you're in full on drift mode or your car has severe understeer which sends your car smashing into wall and there's nothing you can do about it other than just grind along the wall until the car corrects itself.

Story - Non existant. Ridiculous constant phone calls from your 'friends' who talk absolute mindless ****

Only pro's are the graphics, which do not alone make a good game.

The racing wasn't enjoyable because the AI made me want to throw the game away and the level design was terrible and dull. And by the way, why do I need internet connection to play this game, so basically, if my internet goes off, I'm screwed.

The two things I like is the customization and the graphics but that's not enough to make this game enjoyable, sorry but I really don't recommend it and I do hope the other need for speed games are better than this.

Starting the game you encounter its most annoying trait, the characters. Right off the bat you can tell that this is what youth/car/tuning culture looks like from the perspective of some clueless older person who thinks that this is how things roll. It takes itself seriously while its laughably bad. Some of the characters are obnoxious while the rest are just mediocre. Thats not to say I do not enjoy campy FMVs in games. C&Cs are good fun and a nice reward for progressing through the games. They are bad in a good way. But in NFS's case they are bad in a bad way. Also A minor gripe here, they Called NFS2015 a reboot, which for this franchise makes absolutely no sense at all.

When it comes to technicals, NFS impresses with great sound all around, while music is a matter of taste. Graphics are also excelent with amazing car models, spectacular vistas and mesmerising wet effects and reflections. With all that been said I'm not really fond of the fact that its always night or dawn(but only when you enter in specific areas), and Im annoyed that its always rainy and humid. I can deal with always being night, but I would prefer more varied weather. If not at least it could be made just dry. Lastly it seems that the game requires a good hard drive. My 7 year old HDD cant keep up to the point that the map might partially load and going on that "ghost" part of the map I fall through the map. This however does happen in specific areas. So, at the end of the day I'm not really sure. It also happens way too often. Couple this with the fact that you have to endure the all the intros and then deal with seriously awful loading times

When it comes to gameplay and features I think the game does a poor in physics and how tuning affects your car. Driving feels tangible and that you can affect things with tuning at first, however it takes extensive tuning and upgrading to make a car drivable, and even then It's not always a satisfactory result. Another thing is that I feel that there isn't a great deal of variety when it comes to body customisation(especially in later high end cars). The marketing of this game was all about it, but it fails to properly deliver on that end. I also find the available car list lacking. The police is also not that difficult to evade. In fact you might actually have to chase the cops to get what you want. One other gripe I have with the game is the UI. For starters there is no mouse. You can't use it. And then there is the menu. Why do devs like making their menus all over the place?! It's form over function basically. Linear menus, please!

The last couple issues I have with the game and the ones that steal the most points is the online requirement and the support. Since you can work it alone without interacting with other players and even disabling playing online(which is basically how I roll), it's inexcusible to have to be online all the time, especially when you cant even pause the game. My own connection is not without its issues and occasionaly the lines are down(more often than not, on inapropriate moments). And then, no NFS for you, honey. And I wanted to close with the support. Surely enough NFS2015 was updated several times, but there was not much in the way of new content. There were only three new cars(free, mind you, but still), and they sould've be more. The same goes for potential new areas and possibly even closed race tracks. The world feels small. More needed to be added and things needed to change(such as the online requirement), but alas the last update was in late April 2016.

I really hope PAYBACK will be better.

Ok so here are the complaints I have beside the pause button: can't skip cutscenes, messages pop up while racing and game don't stop, default control makes the cars glide on the street, u can own ONLY 5 cars, always online bs. I don't really care about the cheesy storyline.

I expected this game to be better than Rivals. I got best car available in game in under an hour, then everything got boring and repetitive and annoying really. The idea of phone constantly vibrating is just bad and just pisses you off. Visual tuning is amazing if we talk decals, but the physical look of the cars is very very limited. Cops make the game hard, you have outlaw and daily challenges like escape 5 minute chase. The reason it's hard is because you have to look for cops, there is a huge deficit of them, takes you 15 minutes on average to find a cop, and it's pain to keep them chasing you, I literally drive under 70 miles an hour and they still manage to lose me, their AI is so bad and it's so easy to lose them it actually makes challenges hard! If anything smashes in to you (other players, AI, cops whatever) only you are damaged and reset, others are fine (oh and you often reset into the pole or into other cars or whatever). I like the soundtrack, no complains here but if there is track I don't like I have to hold the L3 for few seconds to change track which is more than annoying because it makes it almost impossible to drive and you either smash into something or stick with the song you don't like. I still try to understand how could they have such a great games and come out with something so poor. They could've just taken Rivals added some more cop action and tuning and put the action in the city and that's it, but no, they just ruined it. I have never regretted buying something so much and started to wonder why Sony didn't keep their promise of letting people try games before they buy it so I could get a refund or something. The only reason I'm giving this 4/10 are the graphics, and maybe another reason is I'll get extra platinum easily to my collection if I decide to go back to this boring game and do daily challenges. I was really looking forward to this game, but maybe I was expecting a Little bit too much.
My overall conclusion is that this game doesnt deliver what it promised. When I first found out that they were going to release a new Need for speed game (or an actual reboot of the underground series) and they were actually going back to the good old NFS roots, my inner child burst out with excitement and hope for the NFL's future games (which turned out to be a rather dangerous cocktail) because my inner child ended up sitting in the corner and crying. What should have been a "good nostalgic back to childhood trip" was instead an empty feeling and a feeling of regret. I couldnt simply feel that the old roots came to life in this game. But there is at least 3 positive things about this game!

    1. Graphics: The Graphics in this game is absolutely amazing, they did a really good job when it comes to this part. Sometimes the Graphics almost look life like and some parts of the game is absolutely breathtaking. But good Graphics doesn't necessarily make a good solid game.

    2. Costumization: This part is a 50/50 for me, there is some cars where there is tons of customization, but sadly there are some cars where you barely can do anything to them and that destroyed the experience for me, and I am a big fan of customizing. It's not fun when you buy a good old Volvo 242 GT and then you can barely do anything to it, what you can do to it doesnt make it look any special and that's a shame. They promised a lot of costumization, but they somehow forgot to tell us that it only included some particular cars, and thats heartbreaking to find out, especially if you are a really big fan of costumization in racing games. But overall what you can do to some of the cars are absolutely amazing so thats why it ends up on the positive list.

    3. The sound: Great sound, doesnt sound fake, it gives a good rush hearing your car roaring through the streets.

    Now to the negatives!

    1. Story and cutscenes: The story is poor, but its hard to even make a story when the game is about cars and underground street racing so I can slightly forgive that. The cutscenes on the other hand which are in the live-acition category are embarrasing and skip-over worthy, sure the actors do their best, but it ends up sounding and looking fake. To me there shouldnt have been any kind of cutscenes at all, NFS Carbon did a good job with the live-action cutscenes, but this?....

    2. Phone Calls, phone calls and more phone calls: If it wasn't for the last negative part on this list, this would be the most irritating thing about this game. You can barely race to the corner of a street without getting a bunch of phone calls on the way, and its mostly about complete nonsense, and it's not necessary. Getting 3-4 phone calls in a row is just annoying and irritating. Texts would have been better, but this is just frustrating.

    3. Ventura Bay: Ventura Bay is beautifull, but sadly dead. Even a Little village on the countryside has more life than whole Ventura Bay itself. The map is big, but mostly it's motorways which gets boring driving on one motorway to the other to get to a sertaint point on the map, fast travel saves this point.
I missed traffic, there is barely any traffic and for me the cops was a bit too easy to outrun, at least they could give me a bit more challenge.

    4. Steering: The steering is overall bad, you have the choice with making your car drifting or gripping, but if I wanted to make my car steerable, I had to make it between drift and grip, but a little bit more on the drift side. It you make it total grip you end up hitting a wall, and if you make it too much drift, then you also end up hitting a wall sooner og later.

    5. No time for pause!: Yep there is no pause option in this game, tried to find it but failed, I tried to go on the map because I thought maybe that it would be the way I could pause the game, but my car was still driving when I went to the map screen and it ended up hitting a wall.
So if you play this game and it is during a race and you have to take a Little trip to the toilet, well then you have to hold on until the race is finished.

    6. Online only!: Last but not least, this game is an online game only!
If you dont have an internet connection you simply cant play the game and if you have a really really bad internet connection then be prepared to get pissed because then you will be thrown out of the party if the internet goes off. The online is good if you want to play with many other people, but it should have been an option. when I played this game all the people that were in my game minded their own business, I didn't invite them for race and they didnt invite me so the online only is simply useless for most people if they just want to play their own game.

This game has potential and its hitting in the right direction now, but has a long way to go before I will dive into the NFS univers again! This game needs a lot of improvement.

The AI is horrible, there are events in which you have to "drift train" which is drifting with the other cars in your crew, thing is is you crash, into a barrier or another car you lose your points. Now as these levels are won by the amount of points accumulated, it's "controller smashing" frustrating when your own team crashes into you in the middle of a drift. Also in these events, if you get too far away from your crew you will accumulate ZERO points, so when your crew is going 30 MPH and all of a sudden accelerate to 150 and put you too far behind to get points it'll make you want to break the disc!
On the good side the game looks very good, cars look VERY good, but why it's always raining and everything is always wet is a little confusing.

    - Cringeworthy acting, I genuinely felt 3rd person embarrassment while watching the cutscenes, I ended up skipping most of them. The only 'relatively' normal person is manu, and it's still pretty awkward. They tried so hard to keep it PG that it's just awkward for everyone

    - Finished all the 'story' stuff in a week. Now what? Race other people online? Nope. There is NOTHING left to do. Let it gather dust until DLC comes out.

They REALLY need to add online events, I hate to say it. and add some expensive cars and special things, long term goals that can only be gotten from racing online, otherwise the 'always online' thing is a complete and blatant anti piracy method.

It has alot of potential but it needs some more work. They need to fix the drift mechanics and steering in general - the game tries to predict it and 'assist you', (even with all assists off) when it thinks you're trying to drift and pushes the car. And you will slam into a wall for no apparent reason. Over and over and over.

    - When you're in a high speed race, you will not be able to turn the wheel fast enough. and AI will always be able to take high speed turns better than you. You will never be able to turn the tires far enough, no matter your tuning, on certain turns (exit ramps). you will have to try to drift, or slow down to excruciatingly slow speeds and let all the ai pass you.

This is obviously an unfinished game. For me the worst thing it has is the lack of wheel controller support, something that's been around for over 20 years. Clearly EA is becoming too quick to grab their customers' money, and don't really care about their reputation being sinking so much lately. If I still had the chance, I'd return the game. Even if I had got it as a gift.

Graphically it is beautiful, not entirely sure that i love ghe perpetual rain and njght, but it sure does look pretty. Sounds are also done really well for the cars and with a good surround sound setup you can easily pick where your opponents are just by sound alone.

Ive only played ablut 5 hours so can't speak much of the story... though if you play a racing game for the story then its safe to bet you're probably not in the right genre...

Where NFS falls down for me is the handling and AI. I might be too used to realistic racers like forza and gran turismo at this point, but for the life of me i cannot get used to the driving. Forever am i careening into walls or running smack straight inti a parked car. The AI rubber banding is annoying as fck. I mean this is quite literally like they all have a massive elastic band strapped to your car that just waits for the perfect moment to snap back and they all of a sudden fly past you without a care. Its indescribably frustrating. The "always online" i find dubious at best... but whatevs.

All in all, i WANT to love this and i WANT it to be amazing. But is simply isn't for the reasons above. For me i will more than likely end up returning it for a full refund simply becauae i am too furstrated by the AI and driving mechanics.

There is a great game in there, somewhere, but it is severely hindered by always online DRM, no multiplayer hobby or no easy way to get a multiplayer game going aside from inviting friends. I fear for its long-term playability as a result. What is the point of having made an awesome paintjob on a car if no one is ever going to see it? Having random players in the open world adds almost nothing and is clearly just a convenient excuse for the always online requirement. Even then, the game tries to get local players into your world, but if you live in a remote area, your game world could end up being rather empty...

If you're looking for a racing game, this... isn't it. And as far as Arcade racers go, this is pretty piss poor at that as well.

If they have a huge lead on you, they'll start driving at about 100 miles an hour until you catch up.

The car physics is awful, and no matter what you do, there's random driver assists that kick in when you don't want them to, and they CANNOT be turned off completely. You can turn them down, at best, but little more, so if you're a serious racing lover, you'll find your car inexplicably turning randomly, or drifting for 'style' points when you're just wanting to win a race.

And then there's the laughable characters. Sure, throw in some big names, flash some cars... but it's all empty. It's an 8 year olds idea of a racing game. Cars go fast and drift. The end.

And you'll never, ever, be able to drive like you mean it.

I generally don't subscribe to the notion that games or media in general can be broken down into a list of Pros and Cons, but in this case it really is that simple. Nothing in this game navigates the midline of quality. Everything is either great, or remarkably bad. Let's get started.
    Pros:
Few games allow the fantastic level of function customizability to the vehicles you drive in such a simple way, you can feel the difference, and after some fine tuning you can really make your car suit your game style. The graphics are amazing, so much so that they almost blend entirely with the terrible live action footage that encompasses all of the story, but more on that later. The racing itself really is fantastic, and though there are a few issues with physics, the majority of the actual gameplay really is wonderful.
    Cons:
The cutscenes. They don't make any sense, and for the life of me, I can't figure out why they chose to go this route. These cutscenes would be bearable though, if not for the asinine characters, who are essentially sentient cardboard cut-outs of what old people imagine young people to be, whose vernacular and dialogue was entirely learned by reading a Canadian twitter account that exists simply to make fun of young people. They are atrocious and the only redeeming quality about the phone calls that deliver story and objectives, is that you can hang up the phone without hearing them, and get access to the content anyway. The entire game is online only, and thus there is no pause screen. The design really is terrible here, with a DRM feeling that just can't be overlooked. I mean what if I have to drop some heat? I guess I'll just have to turn off the engine and sit in the car. On top of that there is no way to restart a race while you're in it, so if you have an inevitable slip up, you're just going to have to ride it out at the back of the pack. Another really poor design decision.
This is essentially a breakdown of the game for you, it's great when it does what the game is good at, letting you drive. It's bland story and so-bad-they-are-actually-offensive characters, as well as the really unfortunate design choices keep this from being a great game, or even really a good game.
    I give this game a 2.... out of 5. So a 4.

I think NFS is going to the right direction with this reboot. There are some stupid things they have decided on this game but those are small things an could be patched in the future.

For me this game is a weak 7. If it had an offline mode, manual shifting and playing with friends i would give this an 8. And more things like crew management, crew vs crew play etc it could have been a 9/10. So much potential. It could have been so much more!

The only thing I can think of is that EA didn't give GHOST enough time to develop this game to its full potential.

    The positives?
The presentation and graphics in this game are top notch. Ghost Games already showed what the Frostbite 3 engine could do in NFS: Rivals in 2013, but this game blows it away.

Car customization is finally back in this NFS. It's the most extensive customization system since NFS:Carbon back in November 2006, almost 10 years ago. It is not quite on the same levels as Carbon, or even NFS: Underground 2. It is more or less on the same level as NFS: Most Wanted (2005). Which is still good.

The physics are arcade-y and can be customized to your liking. You can fine tune every single component or you can just slide the main slider if you're not in the mood. You like heavy drifts? Crank that slider all the way to the left! You prefer more grip? Slide that baby to the right. Very NFS: Most Wanted (2005) and Carbon like.

Great city design and layout. Ventura Bay is a fun city to ride through.

    The Bad stuff?

    First off, the soundtrack.
It has some great songs and artists like, Run The Jewels with "Blockbuster Night pt.1" a couple of good aggressive EDM bangers and the one decent song off of Refused disappointing comeback album. But that's maybe 10 out of 50 tracks. It's one dimensional. All of the other songs just blend and bleed in one another. One generic D'n'B beat to another.

The city feels "not alive". Barely any NPC's and traffic to be found in the world. Even the cops are complete pushovers!

Rubberbanding. I don't mind subtle rubberbanding to keep the player away from slacking off, but it can get outright ridiculous (and at times unfair) in this game.

    Always online.
Just why? NFS: Most Wanted (2012) and Rivals had the same, if not more dedicated online services and modes than this game, yet those game could be played offline by default. There was absolutely no benefit to make this always online. No new things are introduced. There are too few players in your server to make everything feel "alive" or "dynamic". Plus, they can interrupt your races...great. And when the servers have to go down for maintenance you have no chance to finish your race and cash in your earnings.

    Fantastic.

Another issue is that there are less events/races in this game compared to past NFS games. This might sound like a nitpick, but the game is slightly lighter on content when compared to past titles. But the devs will release extra content for free with updates, so...

Overall, Need for Speed (2015) is a fun arcade racer that oozes with style, but is ridden with many annoyances and questionable design choices.

Worst game of the series. Heavily blurred graphics (frostbite engine looks better on battlefield 3 which released in 2011), ONLINE ONLY which NOBODY asked for. Soundtrack in NFS UG1,2 and most wanted 2005 was SOO MUCH better.
All in all its easy platinum for everyone, who manage to spend 20+ hours on that "game". It's not even worth 5$ on sales.

I love racing, driving, anything involving driving and going fast, and the racing in this game does nothing for me. That leads me to this games biggest problem. The racing mechanics itself are AWFUL. Yes, I am aware this is an arcade style game, and I have played many other NFS games in the past and haven't had these complaints. I'll do a pro/con for this game, as that seems to be a popular way to review things.

Pros: Well, sadly, I have to say one of the pros for me is that I purchased this for $28 with the gold discount, so I saved myself at least 20 bucks. I would have been pissed paying full retail. Ability to upgrade cars appearance and handing is also a plus, and have been improved since prior installments.

The "fine" area: Most aspects of the game are just fine, such as the graphics, city layout, and cut scenes. Game looks good enough to not make you bring it up, but not good enough that you feel the need to go and tell people how amazing It looks. Same with the city. Reminding me of Forza Horizon map, with game missions be poorly set up, often finding yourself driving cross map for the next mission. Cut scenes are fine, they add a different touch and this is a video game after all who really cares that much, didn't make me dislike the game

Cons: Driving is atrocious. I would like to say I am an experienced and very capable racer. This games driving has to be some of the worst I have ever experienced. Even with hours of practice, adjusting the handling settings every which way, the mechanics just plain suck. The controller lags behind your inputs, making weaving in and out of traffic at high speeds very challenging to do cleanly as you never feel in control of the car. YES, I am aware of this supposed to be an arcade racer, but it can be handled much better. Secondly, no pause button kind of sucks, especially early on when you try to read these paragraphs of information they pop out in front of you while you are driving, distracting the hell out of you. Thirdly, the phone calls are yes kind of annoying, but not as bad as the driving. Lastly, the requirement to always be online is definitely a minus, especially when their is no dedicated true multiplayer events, slightly detracts from the overall experience in my opinion.

Good god this game sucks. To demonstrate how this game should've been, I will compare it to Need for Speed Most Wanted 2005. The cops in this game are broken and boring. You don't engage in long enjoyable chases, instead you get pulled over for doing 60 -70 mph. Again NFS most wanted does it perfect and this game does the exact opposite of that. Next the story. NFS most wnated has great control and the turning is precise and intuitive. However in this bag of **** the turning is awful. You just need to play it for yourself. I can best describe by saying when you go to turn it takes 2 seconds for your car to start turning. For a game with so many tight turns that require great control this game just flat out ****s the bed. Not to mention the races become way too **** and difficult and you don't feel satisfaction when you beat them, instead you're still **** pissed off. The difficulty spikes are ridiculous. Why would this not pause the game so you could read it. Example if your out running away from the cops and you get a pop up saying u should out run the cops but crash and get busted because you can no longer see your screen thats ridiculous. It takes you like 20 mins to get from your garage to a race. Tho you can jump to your garage easily it is not that easy to get back to the missions. Heres an example of one of my races which frustrated me. I was winning the race but because the track changes so much you must pay close attention to your mini map, I hit a wall returned to game after the crash and was instantly crashing again without any reason. 2 crashes in one crash not even sure why. So I had no chance to catch up to first player even tho I only made one mistake. I couldn't even find that same race to replay it. I just have to accept coming in second instead of being able to replay my last race or something. Also I have tried a lot of games with drag racing and this was by far the worst version I have ever tried. I try and shift up and it doesn't shift properly. I find myself either over shifting up too many gears or not shifting at all and staying in first. It was a really bad idea to use second joystick to shift. Also had to leave one of my games because someone trolling me just kept trying to crash into me constantly so I couldn't even get to my missions. I used to love the old need for speeds and was really hoping this would be closer to the old underground series which it was minus a few main important details the old games were very playable and this is not. I usually get annoyed by something within the first 10 mins of playing and have to shut it off. I feel like there was a lot of potential. I hope the next one is more like the classics tho the customizing in this game was really good too. As well as the concept of the story mode, being a part of the conversation was pretty cool maybe it would be sweet in vr as well. Expand

    Well, where to begin...

This game tried hard, and it fell flat. I had a friend recommend it to me the day before it came out and I went against my better instinct and bought it.

-To say disappointing is an understatement. It was heralded as a beautiful game, but alas I found the textures themselves to be a bit low quality and times and had frequent FPS stutters to the point of failing a specified objective (which I should also mention lacked any sort of variety, as often times you repeat the same 3 mission times in a story where no real story exists and the PBR of the main cast through scene capture is truly horrid.

-The game is placed on a pedestal from other games (or at least as it is advertised), for being versatile in car manipulation and handling. The game gives you full wield over customizing your car's handling, but often times you will spend hours trying to perfect an imperfect system, in which things are often black or white in turns of true implications of any sort of modification. The result is a weird combination of feelings that more often or not lack substance.

-The one decent thing in this game is the customization, but even that lacks substance. It limits itself to branding and other trivial things that no one with taste would really want to put on their car. It could be improved. Also, on a side note, car color is wonky and the sliders for adjusting color are both time consuming and ineffably inefficient.

Conclusion: I tried my hardest to like this game, and failed.
Result: Returned it and got my money back. I recommend you do the same.

Graphically, Need For Speed is one of the prettiest games I’ve ever seen on the PS4. Ghost took the Frostbite engine, which powers all of Dice’s games including Battlefield and the new Star Wars Battlefront, and created a beautiful fictional city with some of the best car models in any game, ever. The beauty of the game is helped along by full-motion cutscenes that digitally add your car into the background of some of the scenes. While live action cutscenes are cool, sometimes the cheese factor with the actors playing to the camera is greatly increased. With Need For Speed, bring along some macaroni noodles, as there’s more cheese than a broke college student knows what to do with.

When you first meet Spike, he seems like a really pumped guy who only wants to race. But after the third or fourth fist bump from him he starts to get on your nerves. His wackiness and obsession with the Speed king Magnus Walker makes the girls with Bieber fever look normal. That right there is one of the issues with this reboot of the once-great racing franchise. Every character in the so-called “story” is obsessed with the king of their respective discipline.

Manu, the drifter, is driven by a cool mind that yearns for the attention of Ken Block, the big name for this iteration. While the drifting events are usually very easy to complete if you spend more than two seconds tuning your car in the garage, the gymkhana events that come later on are a test of patience and skill, but mostly your will to not throw your controller halfway across the room after just lightly scraping the wall during a big drift and losing your points. Combining speed and drifting into one event sounds like a great idea, but getting that right balance figured out is way too much work for a fairly small payoff.

Amy is the builder of the group, focused on creating the best overall cars that work in a number of events. Luckily, you are given the chance to change your setup in between events to find what works best for the different events that you will face going down Amy’s story. The master builder, Nakai-San, a Japanese builder who created one of the prettiest 1972 Porsche RWBs I’ve ever seen.

Robyn is the Crew-focused driver, where driving with other drivers gets you points. Most of the events in this path line are Drift Trains, where you have to keep up with an A.I. system that takes rubber-banding to the extreme, and more Race- style events. Robyn’s looking for acceptance from the Risky Devil crew, who are all about leaving everything out on the streets and wearing your scars as pride.

Travis is the most secretive of the group, and also (at least by appearance) the oldest. His story is focused on the Outlaw branch, where breaking every law in the book is actively encouraged. Every one of the races in this branch will in some way run into the police, who are also powered by an A.I. that gives them one hell of a catch-up boost. Escaping the police is easiest if you happen to have a fast car, as even though the police can catch up to any of the cars, you can eventually power past them with brute speed. The head Outlaw, Morohoshi-San, drives one of the meanest Lambos ever built.

The bosses are hard but fair. If you screw up, whether it be your fault or the traffic that seems to magically spawn in front of you when going through an intersection, there’s almost no hope of catching them to win the races. Luckily, you usually only have to complete the races to finish the objectives.

The A.I. system that I alluded to earlier seem to have a very fast rubber band attached to you at all times. It can be a good thing, as it allows you to catch up right at the end, but it also means that even in the fastest car that you can build you will have a challenge to win the race. My 1000+ horsepower Lamborghini had a hard time winning races over Amy’s little Nissan 180z. This system can be fun at times as it offers a challenge in the races, but it can get really annoying as well, when you lose races that you should’ve clearly won any day of the week.

All in all, Need For Speed 2015 puts this franchise back onto the rails headed in the right direction, it just fails to give it the initial push that it needs. Even though this games looks absolutely stunning, the cheesy story and rough systems make this game one that is easily skippable, especially in a month that includes Fallout, Tomb Raider, and a new Call of Duty.

Лучшее что случалось с NFS за последние пять лет! Из безоговорочных плюсов хочу отметить отличную графику, лучший в серии стайлинг и тюнинг, гибкую настройку вождения и довольно интересный сюжет! Need for Speed listened to its fans, and that’s why this game deserves to call itself a reboot of the franchise. There’s a few minor flaws, but especially in its multiplayer, this Need for Speed is the first fun one to come out in years.

    Copy-Paste :)

    Great Game. Nothing more.

Need for Speed is a well-wrought game, full of interesting features, albeit without many fresh ideas. However, it is prone to deliver most of the gamers in the uncomfortable arms of boredom sooner than later, although it is bound to satisfy the hardcore fans.

The latest Need for Speed feels old in every aspect. The driving model, the AI, the story and the characters, the environments – all of it is simply poor. [13/2015, p.68]

Need for Speed’s decent feel of driving and nice tuning options don’t amount to much when coupled with harsh rubber banding, boring environments and a terrible forced story mode. [Dec 2015]
