Seriously. This game is great! I was hoping for some sort of "Underground 3" and it is for me. The customization is so much fun. I've spent hours tweaking and styling cars (and the selection is perfect too by the way). Racing is a blast aswell! You wouldn't believe how satisfying it is to hit those nice drifts around the corners in your unique car.

Now, I've read about the issues that some players have:

    1. Rubberbanding: Someone wrote it is "soul-crushingly unfair" :
Well I have not experienced ANY problems within my playthrough! Yes, there are races where the opponents are crazy fast, but the solution is simple: Earn money, buy a better car and maximze it's performance. You will outstrip any car, even the hard-difficulty opponents. It is that simple!

    2. Always online: So what? I don't travel with my console and most of us have stable internet at home.
And if the servers are offline? Well there are other things to do in the meantime.. Come on!

    3. No cockpit view: Yeah, could have been a feature. But honestly it wouldnt work with the game, you constantly drift from left to right. You wouldnt be able to drive like that. After all you also might want to admire the awesome car you built at any given time.

    4. No Manual transmission: Could have been a feature as well, but seriously.. Is it really that big of a deal for you guys?

    5. The cutscenes are "cringeworthy":
They are not... I really enjoyed the cutscences. They add a lot the the experience and I am happy that they went with the choice of real actors.

Now lets do a little Pro/Con

Pros (More my favorites about the game:
    - Gameplay (Racing is as blast!)
    - Customization (If you can imagine it, you can build it!)
    - Soundtrack (For me always ultra important.. Soundtrack is a 10/10 aswell)
    - Details (For example: if you install a sound-system in your car: You stop outside the garage and the song playing sounds like it comes out of your car. Even the trunk makes a "rattle sound" like if you had installed a subwoofer)

    Cons:
    - It is true that theres nothing really left to do after you completed the story.
(But have to be creative. Buy cars, customize them and drive your favorite events again, do the daily challenges.)

So honestly. This game is perfect for you if you want to experience the "underground days" again.

This is a beautiful arcade racer that has a ton of customization. I rated it a 9 because it is really fun, and gorgeous, but it has always online. I like that the cut scenes are skipable, but-- I choose not to skip them because it is nice to see actual actors in game and I want to see the story play out.
The AI is much improved from over the beta and there is no longer that 'magical boost' the AI would get in the beta.
Customization is top notch! I love being able to change my bumpers, go wide body, add splitters, change wings, change trunk lids, even adjust the stance to make the wheels flush or make em poke if you want. I LOVE IT. I really wish all cars games had this level of customization. Most people will play for the cool end game cars, for me-- I am playing to make the 242 and GTI look DOOOOPE.

TLDR~ A beautiful and fun arcade racer with tons of customization on a bunch of cars ranging from old to new. The only downside is always online. 9/10

    Come on, this is ilegal street racing we are talking about, so they have to be made at night. We still have here the front view so you can race without the cockpit view for sure. The customization in this game is INSANE, truly incredible for the tuning fans and Underground lovers. The gameplay is arcade and very good, the graphics are awesome and the campaign in first-person makes you feel part of it. As for the "always online" haters, the game has a reason for it. You race in and you see a lot of people online, they can even interfere in your races during your event. There's always someone online on the streets and the share picture feature with the comunity is awesome. So what I'm saying is, if you are a Underground fan, don't listen the hate and give this game a chance. It's not 10/10, but it is a good solid street racing tuning experience;

This game looks amazing and the customization is out of this world! Its a decent arcade racing game and its pretty fun. However, the AI for driving could be a bit better and the cutscenes are just so cringeworthy. Also the always online, server problems and not being able to pause is a terrible idea! Overall, its a fun game, but I would not buy this again if I had the chance.

Certainly not the worst game in the series, but had the potential to be so much more. However, this is a BIG improvement from Rivals. Online play is fun and not demanding like Rivals was. The levelling system keeps you pushing for the next level all the time too. If you're disappointed in the latest works from the NFS team, this may put that smile back on your face!

I will continue to trash every game that has this anti-consumer online requirement for single player content, because it is deserved. First, it was Polyphony Digital ruining GT Sport with it, and now it's EA and Need For Speed. Even if my connection was fast, I would feel that this is a scumbag move by EA and question it. I guess they don't want my money, which they could have had if they just made a normal game.

The game isn't perfect though: It requires an internet connection, and can't be paused, not even during a race. Also one another thing that I found tedious, is that how ''lame'' the cops can be, this is really frustrating especially when completing the ''outlaw'' missions. I really enjoyed this game and I think that this is what the next NFS games should be. I recommend this game to everyone who like to play arcade racing games with open world, online multiplayer and car customization. Expand

I've found the handling to be a bit touchy but once you find your frove its fantastic. As mentioned before customization is fantastic. I wish there were more cars to choose from but otherwise i love the game. My biggest issues with the game would have to be lack of daytime, no pausing, and that its always raining (would like a more dynamic weather system). As someone who is an avid car fan, regular reader of Speedhunters and love for JDM car culture I am thoroughly enjoying the game. It's not perfect but a really great addition to the series with some seriously cool cars and customizations.

    The goods:
The graphics, cars, and modding is excellent. While the drifting is difficult at first it becomes very rewarding when you turn off "Drift Stability Assist" and get the hang of the throttle control.

I've spent hours visually customizing the cars which, to me is a huge portion of the enjoyment.
The way the FMV's augment your rides into the scenes are also excellently done.

    The bad:
Collision detection seems really off at times. Available parts for cars seems very arbitrary at times and there are not always the options that should be there. For example no tail or headlights for a BRZ when in the real world there tons of choices! Some cars have limited customisation like an R32 GTR!

    General points:
The AI can be questionable but I can see they try and keep the races tight so you always feel like it's a tight race, however sometimes it can be a little annoying being overtake at 360km/h by a 180SX.

Always online... who cars, I never really see other players, they don't bug me and I am online anyway to sign into PSN.

    Advice:
If you get it turn Drift Stability Assist off!!! The system is totally rubbish and it feels like you are constantly wrestling with the games taking over the input.

    To Ghost Games:
I feel like you did rush this a little to get it out. It'd have been nice for you to add some polish to some of the details. I hope that you will be patching the game to sort out some small issues:
    * pop-spawning npc vehicles
    * being able to view car while changing rims,
    * relax the "ai catchup" or rubberbanding
    * make the list of mods more consistent across cars
    * mirror left and right decals
    * decal editor seems kinda hard to use
    * tone down or provide options for steering input. Sometimes it feels like the game is controlling the car not me. I'd almost like a "raw input" mode.

I love everything about it. The music, the sound effects of the vehicles, the looks of the game, the feel, the handling etc. I can spend hours just tuning cars exactly the way I want to. And I can spend hours just driving around the streets not even doing "Story" missions. It's very easy to get currency in the game which is fantastic, meaning you're not playing for hours to get just one upgrade which is very nice.

That beings said. A few things that aren't so great.

Handling. Very difficult to get used to at first. After the amount of hours I've put in, I'm just now getting used to it. In drift mode, you're car feels like it just wants to drive itself. In grip mode, it feels like it takes forever to turn. DEPENDING on how well tuned you're vehicle is. The tuning is crucial in this game. There is some driving assists that you can keep on or off. Such as Brake assist and Drift Assist. Having both of these on and your handle meter to the drift side, you'll start to drift just by basically turning. So anyway, handling is a thing to get used to.

    Small things
    - Can't switch your song
    - 5 Cars only (That you can own at a time)
    - Not the biggest library of cars
    - FPS does drop from time to time
    - Wish there was an easier way to look at your friends snapshots individually instead of sifting through every single one of your friends snapshots
    - Game is kinda quiet, just means you gotta turn it up more than you're used to
    - Only 8 players per sever(map)
    - To have a party going you can't be already playing the game, you have to restart and invited your friends before hand to be able to join a game that isn't already full. Because if you're already playing the game is always full with 8 players and you and you cant join or invite. You have to get lucky if the room isn't already full

That's all I have to pick on right now. But all in all the game is great and I love it and I'm addicted to it.

I love the Need for Speed series as it takes the seriousness out of racing games, and I mean that with no disrespect for those who take street racing seriously, what I mean is that the Need for Speed titles are fun, they’re reckless, they encourage you to try things you don’t necessarily get to try in less street-based games.

I love the Need for Speed series as it takes the seriousness out of racing games, and I mean that with no disrespect for those who take street racing seriously, what I mean is that the Need for Speed titles are fun, they’re reckless, they encourage you to try things you don’t necessarily get to try in less street-based games.

Drifting plays an absolutely massive part in Need for Speed, something which I’m actually a huge fan of. The only problem is, the game just doesn’t offer any instruction or drifting techniques to allow new players to get to grips with this integral mechanic. Not only that, AI racers are so oblivious to other players on the road trying to do anything remotely technical can often end in frustration, especially when you’re trying to conquer a long drift-chain combo and the tit behind you decides to ram full-speed into you destroying your combo.

Unfortunately this has been one of the main problems with the series as of late. Rivals suffered with crappy AI too, which only makes games like this frustrating beyond belief. I’m not just talking about the fictional racers in the game either, the police AI is just as ridiculous making the Outlaw path a pretty difficult one to follow, unless you decide to hold the cops hand by allowing them to catch up.

Fortunately AI is the only real problem with Need for Speed, sure it’s a bit of a massive one, but there are many bright points which hopefully outshine this issue.

One of those things is the games visuals. I’m not sure how they’ve done it, but Ghost Games has managed to create one of the most realistic games I’ve ever witnessed. Not just with the cars, but with the environments too, specifically with lighting. Though considering most of the races are at night in wet weather, a number of factors play into the visual side of things.

Not only that, the cutscenes, though fairly cheesy and consists of more fist bumps than I can count, look fantastic especially considering the cars are rendered in-game, making it look even more brilliant. The visuals in Need for Speed are second to none. They left me thoroughly dumbfounded and I’m still impressed with the way the game looks each time I start up the game.

One of the other huge selling points of Need for Speed was that every car in the game can be purchased from the very beginning, no unlocks are needed, all you need is the cash to splash on a pricey vehicle. The only real problem you’ll have is that getting that cash to actually purchase that Lamborghini you’ve been eyeing up, feels very much like any other progress-based unlock system. Sure, the car is there to purchase at any time, but you need to still put the work in, in order to actually ride in it.

Overall, Need for Speed is much of the same, which is one of the reasons why I feel so indifferent about it. Sure, it’s visuals are fantastic and the depth of customisation requires an oxygen tank, but the dull story and the oblivious AI does offer a number of sour moments, at least for me.

    Cons:
The cops honestly shouldn't even be in this game, they are a joke.
The game is a bit too easy. The most I ever had to retry a race to win was 7 times.
You should be able to disable all the rock songs in the game...

It seems like EA made a mistake with the always online obligation. It's not a problem for me personally but when looking at the reviews it brings down the average rating of the latest need for speed installment big time. Pretty unfair because the latest installment of need for speed does a lot of things right.

It's an extrmely enjoyable game, Often I do not like arcade handling racers, but drifting and cornering in need 4 speed is thrilling & rewarding. I prefer this handling over criterion's burnout style handling. I love burnout for what it is but need for speed should not turn into a burnout game. For me Need for speed should be for car lovers and should give the excitement that comes with driving an exotic vehicle. This is what need 4 speed does right and this is the most important rating factor for me.
Customizing is great but parts are limited or non existent for some cars, the rubberbanding like often mentioned is retarded (though it does push you to the max certain times). Having no Dragrace option and No manual gears is a BIG fail when your game is based around the sreetrace scene. I hope this will be added in an update.

The game isn't perfect, but what it does right is really good. The customisation aspect has to be the best thus far and the performance upgrades are really extensive and easy to understand. Tuning the car doesn't do your head in like some other racing games (i realise it isn't a racing sim) as it's easy straight forward.

The game looks beautiful which makes you want to keep playing, but it does get a tad repetitive. If you like quick an easy money you can just keep racing the same event which after a while becomes a bit boring. There are plenty of races all over the map so you still have a lot of variety.

I didn't think the rubberband AI would be an issue (coming from a mario kart background) and a lot the time it isn't (when i'm in my Aventador racing cars half the speed) but when you are in a matched race it does do your head in...A LOT!!!!

Overall the game has given me 15hrs of pure old school need for speed joy, but not sure how long this will last. Really good game and well worth a purchase, but could have been slightly better.

In one word AMAZING, some glitches though especially when you are on the mountains you some strange line across the screen. Hope they fix it, and I believe it's fixable.
    Customization:
Deep and one of the reason you would want to buy this game. BUT I wish they put feature to COPY the decals so that you can place exact same on other side of a car. Otherwise it takes hours just to align your decals on both sides so it would be symmetric. At least put some alignment tools so I can make exact same decal on both sides of my car. I don't like puffy, sketchy, random, meaningless customization (matter of taste); I love the elegance, class and meaningful decals. Like M3's 3 lines... So yeah ALIGNMENT tools, we need that.
    Driving:
I don't know why people complain about it, I essentially love how you can tune your car so you can fit the to your style. It would have been worse if everyone had same settings. Instead you have a chance to trial and error option. You try different tuning styles until you find the one that you like the best. I liked the driving.
    Map:
    Great.

Now, I have a new game to enjoy when I just want to go fast.

The graphics on this game are amazing. VB is a gorgeous place to drive. The cars look and sound great. After messing with the tuning, I've found a great setup for what I have right now, and can easily change it for races if I wish.

The various skills - speed, outlaw, etc - is a neat way to track rep. I do wish the soundtrack was more like the original NFSU/2, but it's not terrible. The rubberbanding AI is probably to most annoying, but really it's like what I remember when playing NFSU/2. The always online bugs me a bit, but it is what it is.

Overall, this is a great game to have fun with. It's not meant to break the barrier of gaming and real life, it's meant for you to enjoy yourself, slide your car around corners, use NOS at ridiculous times, and to make a statement with your vehicle. Solid buy for me or anyone who enjoyed NFSU/2.

The driving itself feels tight and approachable...perfect for the kind of game that it is....an arcade racer with deep immersive graphics, sound, style. LOL, I don't mind the live action cut scenes....they're light hearted and fun. A little cheesy, sure, but overall I think the actors did a good job. I mean, how much sophistication are you gonna get out of street racing personalities? I actually enjoy hearing the voices come through the "phone" when I'm burning through the city streets...adds to a feeling of being part of an underground movement, a little bit anyways.

Customization is pretty much at my level...not too heavy handed. I never was very good at deep cut tuning and I'm glad the game offers much for those of us who just want to bolt on some power and put it out there on the streets. NFS Shift 2 was waaay too punishing for those tuning noobs like myself :)

Anyways, I'm several hours into the game and really enjoying it. Hell, I got it for a steal during a PSN sale...over 60% off. Money well spent!

The story of the game was pretty average really, at first you get drawn in and cut scenes are pretty interesting to watch but as time goes by you start to not really care and gets boring by the time you reach the end of the game but i think thats down to the very annoying phone calls that you get every 5 minutes and it really does start to get right on my man knockers. You would be doing a really intense high speed race then (RKO) out of nowhere *ring ring.... ring ring* RAGEEEEEEEEEE!

Now its time for the dreaded drift train race. I enjoyed doing all different races apart from this one. On most times i was forced to restart the event because of the useless horrible AI that kept taking me out and ruining my drift score. When you're trailing behind the racers they go so slow that you're forced to overtake them so you can build up enough speed to get a decent drift score on a corner but because of this "rubber band" none-sense the AI decide to pick up speed because you're ahead and take you out with your drift score. It got to the point where i just had no interest what so ever in doing these races at all.

The graphics are unbelievable on this game with the street and car lights reflecting off the wet roads and the rain effects on your car is one of the highlights for me. I haven't really seen graphics this good before on any other game so far.
For me though one of the great things about this game is the customization on the cars, as a big fan of Forza series and Test Drive Unlimited 2 customization is one of the things i truely love about racing games and Need For Speed just it perfectly. I have already spent many many hours just messing about with customizing the many cars you can buy.

Overall i would say this is an average game. They are heading in the right direction but many things and features still have room for improvement.

The selection of cars is quite big to so any kind of car fan should be able to find a car he or she likes. Each car also handles slightly different but with the upgrade system in the game you are able to tweak a car to your preferences. The process of choosing the car you wanted to build up, saving up the money and then upgrading was one of the most enjoyable parts of the game. Then once you start racing with said car the game really starts coming together. Seeing your creation in motion is awesome and usually inspires you to go buy another car and do it all over And you will need to in the game. It has multiple types of races from Circuit,Sprint,Drift,Drift Train and so much more, So it can be hard trying to build one car that can do it all. The Driving in NFS is defiantly something more related to a arcade racing game but is still enjoyable. Fans of more realistic driving games may find it hard at first to adjust. The streets you race on seem to always be wet or it's raining so drifting and sliding around cars and corners is easy and fun buy at times in the wrong car or turn things become difficult. Later in the game you can run into some extremely uneven races and challenges that may become frustrating and sadly trying to "Restart" A race just makes you reload to before the race start and then load the race all over again, This becomes Extremely frustrating after only a few times and is a major oversight. The story to the game isn't very interesting and is told thought live action cinematics like previous games and sadly almost every-time the actors are horrible and it's no different this time around. The game also forces you to always be online so you can't pause the game and if you ever lose internet in the middle of a race...well to bad.
Need For Speed is far from perfect but it does do somethings extremely well and that leads to having perfect moments with the game you will love but also those moments that are far from that.

The Resurrection and Rebirth or Arcade Racing
Need for Speed is the reboot of this arcade racer that has been around since 1994.
I’ve enjoyed all of the modern need for speeds games, even the cinematic style The Run, but none of them really made my heart sing like Underground 2 did.
I was pleasantly surprised to find out that This Need For Speed reboot pulled me back in again in the way that ps2 era classic did.
The feel of this game is underground from the moment it starts.
Like Underground 2, this game takes place in one giant city at night.
You’re pulled into the underground scene by all of your hashtag hipster friends that say all of your favorite cringe worthy vocabulary that the kids are using today like bae and hand out tons of brofists like they’ve spent too much time watching pewdiepie instead of me.. which hurts my feelings a little bit, but whatever.
Like in Underground 2, there are different style races and challenged spread out around the map that you can freely play in any order you choose. You have the choice to either drive to them or teleport to them which is a huge time saver.
The challenges for the most part consist of time trials, racing, and drifting.
There aren’t all too many circuit races which is kind of a bummer, but I’m torn, this is a street racing game, the races feel like street races more so than they did 9 years ago… but oddly enough I preferred the set tracks with invisible walls and actually miss that more arcardey style of racing..
Need for Speed does do a great job with lighting up the road though to help you stay on track which is great and should honestly be implemented into all open world games… it was nice looking at the world more than staring at a map the for once.
One race style that I’m a little sad to see missing is Drag Racing.. I’ve never been good with manual racing in games.. but they got my heart pumping more than any racing challenge has in the past… but I was horrible at them, so hated them just as much as I loved them.
It would’ve been nice to see them return, but in this world I’m kind of glad they didn’t…
I’m sad to say that the open world in need for speed is pretty bland…
I couldn’t tell once section of the map from the other..
Unlike in underground 2 where unlocking a new section felt like going into an entirely new map, everything is unlocked from the beginning here and it all looks and feels the same.
No variety which means no urge to explore.
There are cops running around that seem to never be there when you want to do an outlaw mission, but they are there for you to mess with, or they’ll occasionally interrupt your street racing..
You can mess with them to build up your fine then escape if you can for a reward or just pull over and pay the small fine you start out with.
The cops are very reasonable in this game, not too aggressive or over powered.
Customization is back with much more freedom with decals and paint, but the variety of body and tire options are nowhere near the golden days of need for speed.
Car Variety is also pretty iffy, and you can purchase the best car in the game about 6 hours in of this 12hour campaign.
The story and cut scenes actually had me wanting more and I was surprised how well the live action scenes actually blended with the game.
While this game isn’t on the level on Underground 2, they are definitely on the right track
I loved my time with Need for Speed, but I have to say that I am mostly disappointed in the fact that this game is always online..
7 other players can join your world at any time, you can set your privacy to invite only if you choose, and you can challenge these friends to races like you could with the ai drivers in underground 2
But even if you won’t want to play with other people, you have to connect to a server for the game to even start.. and honestly I was the only person challenging other people, and only because I felt obligated to as a reviewer… It’s nice to see my friend’s high scores, and kind of cool to try and take on daily challenges, but this all could’ve been done without forcing an online connection…
I also had problems logging in with my sub account on PlayStation 4 thanks to this always online game forcing you to have an origin account to do anything, so prepare to do some hoop jumping if you’re buying this game for your family.

We all want NFS to be good again, well, we'll still have to wait.
This game is bad on many aspects.
First, AI is a disaster, no matter how many hp you have, your opponents will always race as fast as you. Second, the map is not big at all, and looks always the same! I can never remember where I am because of that. Third, it's always dark and raining. There isn't a day-night cycle.

Fourth, the handling is very strange. If you use drift setups, you'll start to drift randomly and very weirdly. If you choose grip setups, the driving is boring as hell. Moreover, the story is a joke and the races and other missions are boring.

However there are minor fps drops which are really not as impactful and the game is indeed online but there is not much issues other than my internet.

The game uses FMV (Full Motion Video) for the Cutscenes even though they are corny but they were never meant to be serious. You can sometimes understand what there intentions are. The FMV Cutscenes are also meant to be for mission expansion.

A.I. rubber banding is indeed involved with the game. The A.I. cars meant to keep up at your speed so if you want to play with a crappy Volvo, you may possibly win a race.

Missions are straight forward. Sprints, Circuits, Time Trials, Drift Trials, Drift Races, Gymkhanas.

The game is online and I am somewhat disappointed since sometimes my internet just can't handle it sometimes.

Eddie is in the game as well and you can earn his car for free if you beat him. Manual transmission is back and even though I dont use it, I'm pretty sure would love to use it.

Customization is outstanding. You can customize the front bumpers, back bumpers, body kits, side skirts, rims, tire treads, exhaust tips, bonnet hoods, splitters, trunk lids, diffusers, front fenders, back fenders, headlights, backlights, window tint, color, vinyls, preset wraps, and soon to come "neon lights".
Customization is the most realistic kind, only with aftermarket brands. Some cars have lots of customization, some have little, and a little have not at all. There are 53 cars in the game but the objective of the cars is perfecting not collecting. The cars also are built inside the game. Your customized car can be in the cutscene.

The career is split into 5 ways to play. Speed, Style, Build, Crew, Outlaw. The main elements in Need For Speed. With real life icons and actors who look up to these people.

Police chases are not as aggressive as what was in NFS Rivals but more fairer, less buggy and more playable. Roadblocks, spike strips, and the actual cruisers feel more realistic and fun. Some roadblock slow you down but you still pass them, while roadblocks made with cement blocks and rhino units are impossible to pass unless you find an extra road. The pursuit levels come into 5 levels. You can simply pay a fine and get the pursuit over with but that's not as fun. You need to pester them enough in order to get on with the pursuit. While starting in a pursuit, you are chased by 1 cop, but overtime you will be chased by a few more. The largest amount I've seen was 7 and trust me cops aren't as easy to get ride of at a decently customized ride. Unlike other games where is easy to destroy some low level cars, trying to do that is almost impossible. Just don't try to take 'em out you may get busted.

    Pros:
    Surreal Graphics
    Awesome racing
    Simple story line

This reboot is fantastic, and far and away better than recent NFS titles. The car customization is deep, and lets the players imagination go wild. The physics are out of this world, and will have you tweaking your tuning after almost every race. I wish there was a quick menu for tuning though, because there are different types of races that call for different tunings, and going back to your garage after every race is sort of tedious. Very good game though, I do recommend it if you like racers. Expand

The graphics look stunning, the soundtrack is as pushy as you would expect, and there are tons of customization and upgrade options. The actual racing in the open world of Ventura is typical NFS: theres the annoying rubber band AI, there are the Drift Events, and there are your friends, your "Crew", which is by far the best feature of the game - you can team up with your friends as a crew and drive around and do events together - which is way more fun than playing solo, when played in coop, many of the games annoyances are just irrelevant and it is just plain fun.
I can understand that some are mad about the "always online" thing, and I am also disappointed by some minor things: I really miss those Drag Racing Events, and Im a bit disappointed that there are relatively less cars than expected, Im missing some brands here and there. Sadly theres also no option to turn of the in-game phone, which rings constantly and can drive you insane, just in real life LOL
Those things are minor flaws, and I can think of EA patching/fixing those things after all those raging people on the net. There will be free DLC as well, so hopefully we get some new cars and events as well.
I can wholeheartedly recommend the new NFS to ANYONE that is interested, especially when you have some friends to play with. The overall style of the game is extremely appealing, although those (skippable) cutscenes are .. well, a bit "cheesy" haha ^^ NFS plays and looks stunningly good, is a major improvement over "Rivals" and deserves to be called "Underground3"

Need for Speed is not a sim, forget shift... It was a poor attempt, but in this iteration they have finally started heading back to their Underground car culture roots.

Do I think this game deserves a 10? Absolutely no chance, I really don't see how anyone can justify giving it a 10, unless they're under 18 and don't know games & never played Underground series or the original Most wanted.

Let us not forget, ALL NFS are judged by the greatest of the series, the two Underground games & Most wanted (2005) so there is no way this game is a 10.

On the flip side, if you're on the fence about this game, I would say whatever you choose you won't regret it. This NFS is currently better than every single NFS since Carbon... Because the focus on drifting has changed... We are no longer FORCED into drifting, and finally the customisation is back!

The new NFS has superb customisation options, great tuning options, probably second to only Forza as far as both mechanically and cosmetically. The Graphics are stunning, the sounds from the cars are brilliant & there are a lot of good signs for this game.

If you choose to buy it, I think you'll enjoy it and you'll understand that this is now a good base point for the franchise. If you don't buy it, you won't regret not playing it because as I said, it is a stepping stone... it's not a great game, but for the real NFS series fan, it's a good direction.

The main things that need a lot of work:

    - Story, seriously are there no good writers at EA/Ghost Games? The story is not great, it's way too cheesy & there's no "bad guy". Even if they rehashed a Blacklist, it would have been better.

    - Soundtrack, it was terrible in this game, not even on the same wave length as previous games soundtracks. The best song in the game only plays in the Garage (No Wyld - Odyssey) and the other songs feel like a 12 year old picked them, Although I think Ghost Games is Swedish, which makes sense because their music scene is terrible and that of a teenagers.

-Rubber banding... This is a big one, the catchup feature (Rubber banding) in this game is awful. You can get a good lead of about 5 seconds, and then out of nowhere the AI will pass you at ridiculous speeds, in a car which defies the laws of physics. I wasn't aware a 1970s Porsche could pass a Lamborghini Murcielago so easily. This doesn't belong in racing games in 2015.. We should have evolved from this already.

    - Difficulty, The game is far too easy, aside from the occasional unstoppable overtake which you can easily get back, the game feels like it was made for the worst drivers so they can beat it. There is no difficulty scaling, no option to change it up, so the whole story feels like a Sunday drive, rather than a "thrilling race through the city".

Map- The map is too small, and underwhelming. This is something that can be solved with the next iteration, so i'm not too worried about it right now.

As I said, this Need for Speed is a good step in the right direction, so hopefully they will learn from any mistakes, take on the feed back and make what we all want... Underground 3

The main problem I have with this game is the customization. Performance parts are on par with other nfs games however you some parts require you to complete certain races before they are unlocked. Visual customization is also lacking. Many cars have very few options for body parts. Some parts are not even possible to change. Lastly the handling customizations don't seem to make much of a difference. Handling of cars is very difficult at times and can be frustrating.

Game play is fun with exceptional graphics, but it is pretty easy to beat most opponents. The AI is lacking especially the cops. I have never once been pulled over. I can completely wreck my car in front of them and still not get arrested. I have even witnessed cops spawning out of thin air right in front of me. Like other NFS games you are able to do races in any order which i like but it does mess with the cut scene/storyline in this game; most of which are pointless.

The drag train races are very difficult too. For one handling is good at best but if you do these races out of order your car has way more power than your crew who you need to stay by for earn points. This genre of race needs more work to be successful. Other in game experiences that need improvement are map markings. It is near impossible to tell if you have collected or finished something as the icons always appear. The one sure way of knowing is by driving to the location and see if there is a check mark on the symbol or not. This should be added to the map. Another feature of the original game i missed is the addition of shortcuts. They are nonexistent .

Overall this game is a decent try and revamping the original underground series but it needs some serious improvements to live up to the original. If you judge the game by itself overall its not horrible but its not the best. It is enjoyable and looks great but you have to overlook some of the flaws to get the most out of it. If your a fan of the series its worth a look but not at full retail price.

The real good things about this game would definitely have to be the graphics, it looks absolutely amazing both in the cars and in the environments. The actual racing is pretty fun too, but only the actual racing segments (Sprint Races, Time Attack, ect.) are fun and remind you of what Need For Speed is all about.

Unfortunately graphics and decently fun races are hampered down by pretty much everything else. First off this game focuses entirely too much on drifting and hooning to the point where it doesn't feel like a NFS game anymore. Drifting has some of the worst mechanic's ever in any racing game and has one of the most annoying race types ever; Drift Train. Drift Train requires you to stay close to the pack of racers and drift to gain points and if you venture too far ahead or behind you cannot accumulate any points, it's stupid.

Another huge annoyance in this game is definitely the A.I. I find it to be just as bad as Need For Speed Underground 1's A.I. due to the incredibly unfair rubber band A.I. (and this is apparently after it was toned down a bit.... yeah right!). It doesn't matter how upgraded your car is, the computer controlled cars will always be right there behind you waiting for you to slip up on one turn so they can blow by you and get ridiculous distance on you to the point where it seems impossible to catch them at all.

It has other small annoyances like awful physics (tap a wall, you wreck while other times you bounce..), cheesy live action cut-scenes, lackluster soundtrack, unfair challenges, and having to online at all times that overall just make the game less fun the more you progress through the game.

Hopefully one day a patch will be implemented to fix some of these annoyances (especially the A.I.!), but until then I'm going to keep this game deleted off of my PS4 and venture off to other racing games instead. Buy this game at your own risk.

Unquestionably a failure part. My main claim will be to physics. It is unfortunate that EA forces all its studios to develop games on Frostbite. This engine is not suitable for racing. It comes to the fact that on some machines it is impossible to travel. And it seems that such a fate awaits Payback. EA killed the legendary series.

All the action would freeze for a few moments until the system "caught up". This worked great. For some stupid reason, in NFS it happens ALOT and now you fall off the "world" into blackness which results in another huge load screen. Load screens are already very very very long. You load the game up and it takes about 1-2 min to load your garage. You then hit escape to leave the garage and its another 2-3 min load screen (around 2 min prob). You get driving which is good.. but don't go too fast or the world stops rendering and you fall off and crash (which ruins your race) as you go to another load screen for about a minute (which came off your time if you were in a race/time trial etc)
Just strange design decisions and I'm also running on top end system (1080GTX, 8 core 4.2ghz processor, `16 GB RAM) Game was also stuttering every few seconds which would drive anyone crazy who is trying to drive at 200+ mph through city streets.. turned out I had to disable Origin in game.
Its a good game it just seems like they put alot of intentional garbage in there to keep you from enjoying it. Also there are no more random AI racers in the world that you can challenge. Only people you can challenge now are actual people online. Being online though isnt bad.. hasn't given me any problems.

-0,0000001 for not disabling radio while engine is turned off and that annoying blue track over the road, but game is close to perfect. REALLY LOVE IT. It’s really strange, that their next games become more cheap, empty, and stupid... can’t get it. EA, WHY?!!!?

As a visual experience, Need For Speed is awe-inspiring, with photorealistic graphics that make the world and cars so real that you will not believe your eyes, and you can explore the entire city at your leisure. But NFS disappoints in every other department. The story mode is lame, the cutscenes with the millennaial stereotype characters (and their incessant phone calls) are insufferable, it's constantly night which gets really boring after a while, the cop chases are aggravating and punishing and the tuning, while certainly very addictive and rewarding, is not as easy as it should be due to the need to rack up tons of money. It's certainly a visually extraordinary game, the races are decent enough and you can buy and decorate a dozens of awesome cars, but this game lacks a heart and soul. Oh, and it's always online - another big flaw. Expand

The story is almost no existent and the characters and cut scenes are cringy as hell and you'll constantly be bombarded with phone calls from the story chaps.
The world is fairly small and I feel like I'm always racing the same routes.
The game is online only which is a nuisance.
Frostbite graphics tip top but NFS seem to be obsessed lately with rain covered cars?
    Overall a mediocre experience.

The driving feels very good in this game. Visuals are preety nice, and campaign at least has better story then Rivals. Sometimes AI is very bad,but not frustrating. But in the campaign, EVERY SINGLE character is so cringe, that is so hard to watch those cutscenes.

After all the hype this game received when EA announced that they were going back to the Underground era, particularly focusing on the customisation culture and story, does it live up to it? Not really.

The whole idea of requiring online to play is a simply farcical move, games like this thrive being played offline, alone or with a friend/family beside you. Of course, they have let go of the latter option years ago in spite of pure laziness. This mandatory internet connection that has been done is so users wouldn't need to update it periodically I presume. What does this mean for the longevity of this title then? Once the servers are gone, this game is history. They don't care about the nostalgia this game could create in the later years. Even then, what if my internet goes down? Unplayable once more. That's because they knew this game wasn't going to be great.

It really, really isn't great. For a game that garnered a lot of attention because of the return of deep car customisation, the game quite literally centers around deep car customisation. The soundtrack in this game cannot be altered as well as the controls, so when both is put together having the skip track functionality only triggered by the L3 button, it highlights how diabolical this problem is. Did they not realise the left analogue stick is also used to steer the vehicle? It's a recipe for destruction when I drive at high speeds. Not being able to configure either functionalities to my desire, especially the latter, makes me feel angry and really frustrated. They do more harm than good, genuinely counterproductive if they were going for simplicity. Pausing is also unavailable in the game too, self-explanatory in the sense that it is only playable online. This new culture these developers have started since Rivals in efforts to make their games more realistic is just pitiful. In actuality, all it achieves - and I'm sure they'll keep it in the future - is irritating the heck out of us gamers when we need to take time out for something potentially urgent.

The problems haven't stopped there. No way. The infinitesimal car limit the developers placed in the garage, is nothing short of laughable. I couldn't believe it when I realised I hit the limit so quickly. A maximum of 10 cars - what a shambolic figure. Again, do they not think about the longevity of the game? Its main selling point as I've said before is customisation, so obviously possessing huge car collections is very much inevitable for a lot of gamers, including me. I put hours into each of these cars to make them rock aesthetically, so to quickly reach the ceiling and be forced to trash them because of this tiny limit makes me shudder, almost in a state of cringe. There's over fifty different cars in the game, give the user a freaking choice whether they want to hoard them or not. Do they really think gamers enjoy trashing cars that they've put effort in modifying over and over again just to barely fit in their next target car? They have no excuse for this. Saving hard drive space on the overall game is not a valid reason - a few gigs to push up the car limit to maybe 25 to 30 would suffice. Nothing short of an abysmal decision by the developers.

The story isn't as cringy as a lot of the folks here are making it out to be, I mean it is sub-par but I saw that coming from a mile away. It is okay. The calls are really annoying though when I don't pick them up the first time - a way to mute them in the options bar would help. The climax of the story however is incredibly forgettable. Leaves a massive patch of emptiness in me, honestly.

Positives include the overall gameplay, it is pretty sound so I'm not sure why the others here are moaning about how difficult it is to control the cars. I can't find many problems with it. Tearing streets down with raw speed during free roams are also cool, especially with the night settings carved and shaped beautifully by the gorgeous graphics. It doesn't need to be raining all the time though. Hurts some of the authenticity of the gameplay. Customisation is also fantastic, plenty of things to do again just like the days of NFS Underground and its successor. Body kits, vinyls, the game is stacked full of them. Only issue here is that the availability of the installations need to be more consistent over all the vehicles, being unable to change something as simple as the headlights and taillights for some of the cars with all due respect, is quite annoying.

Tuning also plays a bigger role in this game than its predecessors, it impacts the performances of these cars a lot more than before. Mostly good, I really like the significant effect it has on the driving mechanics. My gripe with this is being unable to tune anything related to the speed of the cars. Acceleration and top speed are two key components I feel should have been tuneable in the game.

Function wise, the worst NFS I've ever played. Elsewhere, there are positives to take from.

Do they not have focus groups at EA? How did this get past quality control? Is there quality control? Do gamers test these games? Have a fckin back bone EA and put out something good for the sake of being good maybe you will lift the spirits of your dwindling player base across all IPs (of course we all know the player base don’t mater just those investors and shareholders right? so long as it looks like a game right? so long as it meets the bear minimum to fit the legal definition of the word “game” right? Sometimes EA Games releases a new series of NFS game which is not as good as previous one and this is the case. This is an attempt to add Underground style to Rivals and that's it. I didn't like the story, too naive and the scenes are pretty boring. Anyways this is something I play right now waiting for the new one.

Good compaing, exelent tune options, but VERY, VERY BAD community.

It's a good game until you try the multiplier. The community even worse than in cs. And as you know cs community are bad, but no that bad like NFS.

But i still think that is one of the beast NFS, because there are a lot of option to do, a lot of settings, to set you car as you wish.

If you like avoiding oncoming traffic in every race, constantly smashing into cars that show up in every single one of your drift lines like clockwork, or unresponsive, ridiculously difficult to control cars... If your idea of fun is spending hours tinkering with dozens of unintuitive "tuning" settings rather than actually driving, then this is the game for you.

Need for Speed is a well-wrought game, full of interesting features, albeit without many fresh ideas. However, it is prone to deliver most of the gamers in the uncomfortable arms of boredom sooner than later, although it is bound to satisfy the hardcore fans.
