MouseCraft digs deep into many PlayStation-esque inspirations with its charming visuals, and it features intriguing puzzles to boot. The level creator feels out of place and the price is rather daunting, but the overall result is a title worth playing.

It is a very interesting puzzle game, with some good ideas, that becomes a great option for fans of the genre.

Well presented, technically solid and fun. Runs out of challenge and interesting concepts roughly halfway through, however. [September 2014, p73]

A lemmings-like puzzle with an interesting editor. But after so many years we keep playing this formula, we deserve something more than a nice looking graphics trying to renew an old idea.

MouseCraft is always, noticeably and unapologetically, Lemmings meets Tetris - and like the mice of its title, it seems happy to scrabble about in the twin shadows of its genre-defining inspirations.

MouseCraft is a likeable but simple puzzle game that barely touches the complexity of the two titles it claims to take inspiration from.

But despite its shortcomings, Mousecraft hits its gameplay spot on, featuring a very good (if not a tad aggressive) difficulty progression, thoughtfully developed levels, and novel elements that keep puzzles fresh and entertaining during gameplay progression.

In Mousecraft, you control the composition of a level, by placing or destroying blocks, in order to get three mice from a starting point to the goal. Both the ability to place items in levels or destroy items is limited making often requiring extremely precise choices to complete a level with a perfect score.

If the game had one major flaw it would be that levels can be completed without collecting all items and getting all mice to the goal. While this may have been a mechanism to allow the gamer to choose their own difficulty, completing a level with less than perfect is often very unsatisfying, allowing the gamer to progress quickly through levels thus robbing the gamer of the feeling of satisfaction having bested a challenging puzzle, making further progression a daunting endeavor.

The second flaw is less important, though may be responsible for the games tepid reception -- the graphics. The game is drab and the characters uninspired. Mousecraft may have gotten much higher scores had it featured characters like Super Mario's Toad with a "Super Mario 3D World" aesthetic -- staunchly implying that there is nothing fundamentally wrong with the game; it is very fun, challenging, and well-designed. But superficially it is easy to pre-judge and hence approach the title with a negative bias.

I urge those that enjoy light puzzles to approach Mousecraft with an open mind and to complete each level with a perfect score before progressing. You may find it to be very fun and satisfying, and may ultimately determine that the game is criticized incommensurately with its shortcomings.
