Krillbite should be commended for what the achieve with Mosaic, crafting an experience that wholly commits to its themes, atmosphere, and narrative. Each moving part of the game contributes to the whole journey and creates an exceptional replication of the bleak, hostile, and depressing lifestyle that is modern capitalist-fueled city-life. It isn't a particularly enjoyable game to play, but that lack of gratification is just another part of the magnificent mosaic that is, Mosaic.

Mosaic’s strikingly beautiful aesthetic is not quite enough to overcome a frustrating core gameplay loop and buggy controls. Those with an affinity for great art design will find a lot to admire but those needing a mechanically compelling reason to keep playing will struggle with what is offered.

It’s occasionally clever, and has great art design, but isn’t nearly as smart as it thinks it is. [Issue#173, p.96]

Ultimately, the biggest problem is the technical hitches. During the game's two hours, we experienced two hard crashes, and the framerate was almost never stable. Despite such a short run time, this made the experience feel much longer than it should have.

It was ok. Enjoyable enough to finish, but ultimately nothing very memorable.

    Mosaic
A look into monotony and depression
Mosaic is a 2 hour long interactive story game where you play through the life of a depressed and stressed man, going through the motions, going to your dead end job, over and over, though throughout this journey youll find opportunites to brighten your day up, to just for a moment break you out of the monotony and slug of life.. this is a fairly depressing game and uplifting game all at once, new things happen every day despite the same thing happening every day, youll go through different sections and then randomly you’re a butterfly, or youre a squished blob, going through the story of breaking out of this societal prison… though this is the closest ive come to giving a game a 0/10 in a while.. simply because half way through the game, there is a bug that stops progression, ive looked into it and many players run into this issue of an invisible wall stopping progress during a chapter, however backing out of the game and hopping back in did fix this for me.. so if you decide to pick this one up, theres a little pro tip… Another issue I have with this game is the mini game it throws at you every day… its repetitive and unfun, but its also meant to simulate work, so I guess it succeeds in that… All in all mosaic is an interesting and unique experience. This definitely isn’t a must play, but if you have the opportunity for whatever reason, eh why not.
    I give Mosaic a 6/10
