What the hell is going on with the media review score? Have the reviewers only played the game for an hour to check the core mechanics and assume everything else is just as good? It is a mobile game for AAA full price and gets worse and worse the longer it plays out.

I deliberated on giving this a 4, even a 3 but because the core gameplay is so good and the production value is very well

I deliberated on giving this a 4, even a 3 but because the core gameplay is so good and the production value is very well done (esspecially on pro) I will give it the highest 5 I can but man I am thourally pissed off. Take your politics elsewhere, take your Muslim woman covering **** to the middle east where it belongs and for the love of God, don't sell me a mobile game for AAA price, no matter how pretty you make it.

Done with this studio, just found out that this was WarnerBrothers and pissed I gave them money after the crap that was Shadow of war. I'll be more weary and both publisher and developer can count me out of future games. Mortal kombat was supposed to be a series you didn't have to check reviews for, somethig I didn't think I would be learning was butchered slowly while it was already in developmemt with shoddy reasonig.

Yes the graphics are amazing, the 4K HDR is stunning, and yes the character designs are flawless but the core of the game which is GAMEPLAY is not what it use to be. Let us just say that Micro Transaction is what ruined the game and also the fact the grinding in this game is insane. You start with characters with missing moves and costumes and in order unlock them it can take months and months. The game seems unfinished when we look at it this way. The Krypt isn't the best either, the costumes and moves are randomized so you cannot even unlock them while checking any walkthroughs. YOU CAN however buy the Krypt. Most gamers now a days are 30+ and they do not have time to play this game for hours and hours to unlock moves and skins. They have to pay for it. NOT good. All this was implimented in Injustice 2 as well but it wasn't as bad as this.

Yes the over all gameplay is decent and fun and fatalities and brutalities are very gory but still, I was disappointed. Also DLC is stretched beyond measures. Releasing all the characters in 1 year span time which is another reason to dislike this game. I hope the devs next game isn't anything close to this.

    The roster:
It's very Meh. There are highly requested characters that return such as Noob Saibot and Frost but there are plenty of wasted roster slots such as jacquie Briggs, a character that was never interesting in MKX and still isn't interesting dispite her wrist guns which were stolen from Deadshot and the superman punch stolen from Jax. Seeking of Jax, he was once a prowd soldier who fought for earth realm on many occasions but is now just a sad old alcoholic who is entirely useless in the story and only serves to further a political message in his arcade ending.

    The costumes:
Gone are the days of the sexy females in MK. Sure you wouldn't wear a bikini to a bar fight but the option would have been nice. That's something people will pay for. Just look at DOA. I also don't think dressing Jade and Skarlet like brides for an arranged wedding was a good move either. Turbans aren't metal enough. All the males have pretty awesome costumes except for Kano. All he got were aweful rehashings of his classic costumes which don't fit the character at all.

    The story:
If you like time travel then look no further. Rather than continue the story set forth by MKX, NetherRealm decided to give us time travel. Ew.

    Gameplay:
Glairing political nonsense aside the game feels great to play. It's an absolute ball. I have only one complaint. The breakaway system is a terrible mechanic that has disgraced the MK franchise since Deadly Alliance. It may have been called breakers in the other games but it's still the same thing. It's a system that will punish you for making a good read on your opponent and reward them for making mistakes, A+ design (but not really).

    Progression:
THERE ARE NO LOOT BOXES. Although you can buy time crystals for an in game store, they aren't really hard to come by either. The store also only has 5 items in it at a time. Not a lot of insentive to buy time crystals when there's nothing you want in the store. Money does not fall for the sky in this gsnrn. It's very grindy. Also there are 3 types of currency for use in the Krypt to get unlockables. Hearts souls and Koins. All of these are hard to come by and the most souls I've seen awarded at once was 200 which is rather insulting considering there's an item in the krypt that costs 10.000 souls. Ouch.

    TLDR:
    Fun to play
Full of political nonsense that has no business in a game AT ALL.
    Boring female costumes.
Very meh roster with no Smoke or Reptile.
    Customization is awesome and extensive.
Story is a little bit of a waste and the end sucks.
    Get woke, go broke.

    - you have a lot of different background stages to fight in
    - there are many different costumes and gear available for every character
    - The game has a lot of content when it comes to singleplayer

    Cons:

    Gameplay:

    - gameplay feels to slow, characters are moving and jumping very slow and often attack animations take 5-8 seconds to finish.

    - this game has also long super and ultra moves which you have to watch every match. It feels almost as if you spent more time watching those moves then playing the game. That's a bit exaggerate, but you get what i mean, if you see or play it.

    - standing far away from your opponents and shooting nonstop projectiles at them is far more efficient then every other playstyle, because of the slow movement speed and how hard it is to get in.

    - the enemy AI is laughably bad, standing around most of the time and doing nothing, even on the harder difficulty modes, it is really easy to exploit. So while there is a lot of singleplayer content to play through its not particular interesting to do so, given how passive the AI in single player is.
And the times it gets hard, like in many of the tower challenges, it gets hard in a very unfair and frustrating way, with you having to fight the AI input reading your moves while you have unblockable nonstop projectile spam from outside the arena as stage hazard and the reason they do that is to make the ingame currency as hard to get as possible, so that you rather spend money to buy currency to unlock things.

    - they have implemented a gambling lootbox system, with multiple ingame currencies you have to craft into each other, to obscure how long it really takes to get a desired item, like you know them from mobile games, where you have to grind a really really long time(month or maybe even years) to get the costumes you want to have. They even gated the Finishing moves, Brutalities and Character intros and outros and almost all Costumes behind this lootbox grind wall, which is also the reason this game requires you to be online in order to get skins and items, because they don't want you to manipulate their lucrative lootbox gambling system, which preys on people with gambling addiction to take as much money from them as possible

And its not like in Tekken 7, where you can just play the multiplayer to earn currency and then unlock everything with it. You have to play very specific singleplayer modes, mainly the tower challenges, to get the currency nessesary to unlock all the Costumes,Fatalites,Brutalites and Intros and Outros you want to have.

    Presentation:

    - this game has partwise really awkward character design, where all males are half naked bodybuilder stereotypes and the females are not allowed to show any skin at all.

    - the story is also full of stereotypes, where all the male characters are portrait as absolute idiots or vengeful rage induced monsters and most female characters are there to get things right and fix the things, the males screw up.

    - if you want to play Shao Kahn, one of the fan favorite characters, you have to preorder the game or you cant play him.The character gets installed on your hard disk drive anyways, in form of data, but they let you only play him if you have preorderd.

    - most arenas you fight in look very good texture and lighting wise, but many of them have the old MK X problem of being to dark, so that the fighters do not really pop out of the background very good.

    Combos:

    - most combos are very short and often you have to press only one, two or three buttons and your character is doing an entire combo

    - non of the characters seems to have much depth when it comes to combos or combo execution

    - most combos are really easy to perform, both timing and execution wise and as far as i have seen there is not a single character which is hard to learn.

    pros:

-graphics are really amazing and everything is really detailed

    - fatalities are really gruesome and F up which is good

-the transition from Cutscene to game play is really smooth

    - the character design is awesome most of the characters look really good

-they brought back highly requested characters from previous games such as noob saibot and skarlet which is really good they are awesome characters

-combat and combos are awesome and easy to master

-the third person mini puzzle game you get in the crypt is awesome and i really liked it

    cons:

    - firstly the fact that after you download the game you have to be online to download even more things when you are in game is really dumb

-the female censorship that they did in this game is horrible basically they downgraded all the female characters breasts and butts it sounds not important i know but for a mortal kombat game that is supposed to be R rated and to shock you its really bad

-the lack of iconic character such a melliena ermac and kenshi is annoying and basically they show you in the crypt that ermac and kenshi are dead but they could bring all of them back like they did with baraka on story mode

    - microtransactions are back this game basically makes you either grind for gear like in injustice 2 or get it with microtransactions also you can buy a character from the start even if you can easily unlock them in the story mode also skip fights and easy fatalities are back which is really bad

    - i don't know why they did it but they gave the female characters way to much spot light i guess for all the SJW crybabies but again it felt like most male characters aren't even important anymore

-game felt a little to short because there aren't enough characters in the roster in my opinion they went a little lazy with that

    - another thing that made me kinda mad is the recycling they did with some characters for example they made kabal the flash like i know kabal is fast but one of his fatalities is him literally going to another dimension with his speed sounds familiar ?

all in all this game was short yet enjoyable at some point it is a shame its not like the previous games in roster and good story but i'm guessing netherrealm needs some time with the next game or a new project because they are starting to get lazy with the mortal kombat franchise in conclusion this game is fun but has some problems that need fixing my final score to this game is a 7.5 out of 10

Other thing i don't like, is this new de-feminize thing that is going on. All the women have almost burkas on. All covered up. That is BS. Cassie's outfits are the best and most hilarious example of this.

Now the bad: I am not the fan of new default costumes and skins of most of the characters. I mostly play with Sub-Zero, Kung Lao and Raiden and I miss their classic costumes and was pretty shocked that they were all locked away for grind or purchase. That includes the "sexier" costumes for females (with the default female costumes, NRS went out of its way to make females less appealing esp combined with zombie looking skins). There are 4 different forms of ingame currency I guess to increase the grind like mobile games as well as making it more confusing to customize your characters. There are tons of costumes and other items that I like a lot but they all are locked away. It should not be like that after spending close to $100 for a Premium version of the game. I hope that NRS and Warner address the micro-transactions and grind and cost of items ASAP or I won't be so fast in buying MK12...

the game also seems to be pushing an extremist left wing agenda with how they have went about handling the female fighters where all of them are covered from head to toe and are beaten bloody as if they are from oversea's while the men are all half naked and bare chested. the game also is online only meaing any type of progression you make is tied to you beaing linked to the internet when past MK games of old had no such feature and then there are the pointless greedy MTX's too boot on top of all of the other issues.

now the story while an improvement over MK10 pretty much ends up rebooting everything again so it's hard to be invested in anything that is going on here. there are some funny moments but overall the story is serviceable not bad or great just fine

    while i don't think this game is a 2.0 or a 3.0 it's no where near an 8 or 9.0 so i''m giving MK11 a 6.5

An online connection required even to fully unlock single-player offline rewards in the Training Mode and Story Mode? An online-only Krypt? For every huge step forward Netherrealm Studios and WB make with the MK series, they kill themselves with poor corporate-influenced decisions like that. I understand making sure the game is fair online and that piracy is prevented, but the developers and the corporate greedy executives should not care HOW I play the game offline. I bought the game. I should be able to unlock rewards offline. Other studios have found ways to allow gamers to unlock things offline but moderate and regulate how the unlockables are used online. If I were a developer at NRS responsible for the fighting aspect of the game, I would be so pissed off at how all of that wonderful hard work is marred by the corporate hacks. It is my hope that NRS will realize that their proud MK11 baby is defective in that one huge regard and deliver a post-launch patch to fix that. Ed Boon? You there? Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I began to play MK series since day one, back in 92 with my cousins Sega megadrive, it was love at first round. Along these years I allmost bought i played pretty much all the games and i can say for sure that WB is not doing a great job with one of the most, famous, respected, a fan suporting sagas of all time, and i´m pretty sure the MOST in Fighting games... i mean... everybody knows what a fatality is... and scorpion and Sub-zero are known arround the planet. Now... about MK11 there are many things that bother me, but there are solid possitives too.

    Pros:
-The way the fights are more technical, and not 20 combo hits that keeps you fliying for eternity

-The new X-Ray system, like an last breath atack, but they should keep the bone-breaking effects

-The Kostumization it´s very cool, allows you to actually choose habilities and not schemes or modes for a character, leting you create your kombatant as you wish

-Graphics and style is a +

-I actually like the put more clothes on the girls, but they should keep the old skins too, the new skins make them look serious fighters, but some of them like Jade and Kitana really had this Killer charm that it should be kept... just make this sknis unlockables

-The tutorial is great, best so far... has 2 parts, 1 general and one specefic for each kombatant

-Fatalities are pretty awesome ... dind´t see all of them, but till now are great

-Brutalities are very fluid... like an instant fatality... my first was the scorpion uppercut... i allmost **** myself... AWESOMe, i wasn´t even triying to and BOOM... your head is no more...

-The Story mode its acceptable for a MK... we know its not their top priority

-Many different towers to unlock items for specific Kombatans, you can even buy 1 for the fighter YOU want

    Cons:
    - Ramdom Krypt chests??? ARE YOU F*King SERIOUS??? thats a STUPIDIEST THING EVER, i was never a fan of the krypt... like... NEVER, but now i Just HATE it beyond levels it shouldnt be possible

-Grinding... yes... it seems that making the sub-zero i dream of it´s gonna take sooooo much time

    - Online mandatory, thats just plain stupid... you must be online if you want to play online... making this mandatory it´s just nonesense

-The towers are too hard... pushing you to buy with realmoney. Not cool

    - About the towers.. the fights were the oponent has a tag mate are WAY TOO MUCH, the atacks are allmost unblokable, too fast, and if its a guy like sub-zero is extreamly annoying, special ataks that freeze, low hit, that axe combo... F*ing nonesense

-Many Kombatants are missing... you are time traveling arroun MK universe and no Meelina, nighwolf, Sektor and Cyrax, ERMAC... REPTILE.. are you SERIOUS??? Those and others...

-Missing modes, the test your luck... a promisse for DLC? Dick move... Also I loved Chest Kombat, love it with all my Soul and provably it´s not a hard mode to implement, i really wish somebody read this and give the idea to bring it back... Test your Might was cool too.
PLEASE MAKE CHEST KOMBAT GREAT AGAIN !!!!!!

Finally, i would say MK 11 it´s not a BAD game, not beyond repair at least, but Netherealm must take notes and respect the fans that put the saga where it is.
As a consumer I DEMAND more fighters, the CLASSIKS, they never get old, specially if your story mode it´s based in time travel... DUH!
I DEMAND more MODES, chest Kombat, test your Luck (or as a call it roulette fight, thats the most fun vs mode EVER!), CHEST KOMBAT!!!! (i really loved Chest kombat)
I would love to have the variety of move set from deadly alliance, 2 fighting styles + weapon, it was VERY AWESOME, specially the stabing bleeding mechanic

I´m a huge fan of the series and I´m really afraid that these may be a breaking point, decisions must be made, or MK becomes just another pay4play, moneysucking, boring saga... or returns to it´s violent nasty origins that everyone loves.

MK it´s about that, It´s fun, it´s violent, it´s messy, it´s gore and it´s caotic... Dont Let WARNER put their order, nobody likes that... NOBODY WANTS THAT.

    Sorry for Bad English

    The good:
    - Story mode is pretty decent this time around, it addresses a lot of the flaws with the 9 and X stories.
    - Most of the redesigned characters look fantastic. No, I don't care that the women don't look like whores anymore. Jade's redesign is especially fantastic, but Sonya looks a little off. - The gameplay is as good as it's ever been, smoother than ever and with better pacing

    - Arcade endings are voiced by the character you won with! **** finally.
    - Good online netcode - the most important thing in a fighting game.

    The bad:
    - Really don't care all that much for a single one of the new characters. They're all rather dull, even Geras who seems like he should be interesting just has nothing to him.
    - Enough with the modifiers in PvE play already - I don't want to fight someone with 300% health!
    - Too many supplementary modes and "towers" and all this **** you don't need.

    The ugly:
    - Jesus. ****. Christ. They promoted the gear systems and customizables a hell of a lot during the hype period for this game, so to see it be executed with a grindy mess of unfair challenge, ridiculously low rewards, and such a clear cash-grabbing **** you" is the single worst thing about this game.

Overall: I would've give this game an 8 or a 9 if it weren't for the single, almost replayability-killer that is the gear system. If you were looking forward to that system, which I wasn't, to be fair, you're going to be MASSIVELY disappointed. However, if you're not that kind of player, if you didn't bother buying shirts and titles in Tekken 7, if you really just want a good 2D fighting game with an admittedly great online experience, you can bump the score up two or three whole points. It's really **** good.

Cons: Predatory microtransactions that feel as though the game was built around. No secrets or fun hidden stuff. The females are covered in tarps while the men are shirtless in almost every skin choice, there is no balance here. The amazing custom skins and gear are mostly found in Towers of Time which are randomized, timed, encounters specifically built to force players to buy "konsumables" awful, penny pinching one time use breaks that attempt to even the odds but often makes it so you can last just an extra second or two. If you die, you lose the item anyway. The difficulty is tremendously off balance. Watching the developers play on the Kombat kast versus what this game is actually, is the equivalent of watching a fun musical where people dress as lions and dance versus watching six starving real lions tear into thirty human babies covered in A1, and being told it is the same thing.

Series mainstays such as Mileena, Ermac, and especially Reptile(non human characters should always be featured) is disappointing but will not influence my review as that is my personal preference.

Overall this has the potential to be the best Mortal Kombat game ever released to konsole, but these jarring insidious methods of locking kontent and changing core mechanics to enable, encourage, and influence the purchase of "premium kurrency" is shameful and seriously harms what would otherwise be a crown jewel in the crown of NRS.

As it stands now however, it is a bloody crown of thorns.

I understand the other reviewers who gave 0-3 points to the game and I can relate to their critique's
and I would have rated the game in the same way if it wouldn't be for the positives mentioned before. The base is there but the MS finished the game.

Mortal Kombat was always a Must Buy and a hit on gaming nights, but MK11 killed that status and MK12 needs to prove its worthiness.

The game is nice, but the rewards system is crazy. The graphics are fantastic. Even the characterization of the characters I do not like, I understand not to clash social justice warriors but this is an exaggeration, it is always a video game I do not like the characters so real. The males are semi-naked and some moves literally break their balls

Gameplay is good but the towers of time are just plain stupidly designed to use up your patience and all consumeables. Also an absolutely mature game hides censorship to appeal to the SJW crowd by claiming its all to be 'more mature'

If you want this game, wait for a sale, or just rent it for the story.

I am a huge fan of Mortal Kombat, I've played every main game in the series except Deception and Armageddon. This game just might be the worst in the series, or not the worst, but a weak entry. The game feels slow in comparison to the more fluid MK9 and MKX, you need to be online to access any of the other things like the tower and the Krypt, and the game has micro transactions. Paying for in-game currency is bull and it should've been stopped a long time ago.

The worst thing about needing to be online to play is that if you put your system on rest mode, you have to start the tower all over and you lose any rewards you gained. I turned the game on rest mode because I went to work, came back, had to start all over. Bullcrap. MKX didn't have that problem. The crypt is also random, so any guide you think you might find on the internet is moot. I can't even do much because I can't access the Mortal Kombat server, and only MK11 gives me this problem. my connection is flawless on other games I play. Plus some of the character designs are weird.

Overall I wanted to like this game, but it's just bad. I hope Warner Bros. and NetherRealm Studios can learn from their mistakes here. I'm glad I got it for free and didn't pay a dime. Wait until the price gets marked down, don't pay full price.

MK 11 in my opinion is one of the best releases in the series , I would give it a 10 but it is all about difficulty which I guess tweaked a bit , in short ... learn from Capcom Warner brothers :-D
Micro transactions and DLC are messy as hell in late versions , I bought MK XL when it came down to 8 dollars last year ! but I bought this one premium from day one hoping for a full experience

    PS4 **** don't have cheat engine :' ( sad!
Instead of hating this game download Cheat Engine and fill up the ingame currencies to 999999999 and enjoy your skins. If there is a risk of getting banned just wait for it to be cracked and download it.
it still is a 5/10 because of the microtransactions.
But, the gameplay is 11/10 :D like every mortal kombat.

Being able to customize and modify fighters also adds creativity and depth. it also boosts some of the best aesthetics for a fighting game I have seen this console generation. It has a cutscene heavy story mode for the fans and lots of cinematic fatalities. Shame, if you want to see or use everything there is to offer from MK11, you have to put the hours in. A lot of hours. You have to grind for hours (days) to unlock the unlockables. This is when MK11 stops being fun and becomes a chore. It can force many gamers to their wallets. This problem can be a deal breaker for many. MK11, overall is a great game just ruined by the grinding problem, NetherRealm need to patch the game and rescue it. Or it is worth waiting, remember when we got MKX then we got MKXL with all the extras. Will there be a MK11XL of sorts with all the extras only time will tell. Expand

If is the eleventh installment really is the last Mortal Kombat for at least some time, then the developers part with it with dignity. Large number of fighters, great possibilities for editing them and great gameplay make the game one of the best fighter games of recent years. [Issue#295]

Like the grisly cutscenes, Mortal Kombat 11 is fun as long as you don't think too hard or look too closely at it - but that's exactly where the real joy is found in a fighting game. If Mortal Kombat wants to elevate itself, it's time to start overhauling the skeleton underneath all that flesh. [Issue#333, p.110]
