Extremely unfriendly to new players. Capcom explain next to nothing, and it is infuriating. General consensus to combat is that it is considered clonky, and it is is. You are irritated by frequent knockback and trembles and just frustrates you

The game demands PERFECTION or a cheese environmental advantage. Even then some of the higher level monsters will still throw you into this chain stun / 100 to 0 death setup and it just isn't acceptable in a game that should be about strategy and skill, not hopeless disadvantages.

Was fun until I got to higher level monsters. Now the game is just a tedious frustrating grind with no real enjoyment. Don't buy this game.

This is pretty much the game.
Everyting can be beaten with just rool, hit, sheathe weapon, roll, run and heal, repeat.
Don't bother with the story it is there only to let you know which is the next poor creature you've to kill.

This game is borderline unplayable out of the box. WitH HDR on, even with the lowest brightness, the screen is washed out white. With HDR off, and lowest brightness settings the wash out effect is ok, but the screen looks lifeless.

Is nobody doing quality control at Capcom/Sony anymore?!

I have never played a MH game before and after seeing all the positive reviews I was convinced this game was for me as I'm a huge fan of games like this. I loved WoW back in the day but more recently I've really liked Horizon Zero Dawn, The Witcher 3, etc.

This game takes some elements of those games and could have been so great except for two major issues: 1. The combat is awful.

This game takes some elements of those games and could have been so great except for two major issues:

    1. The combat is awful. There's virtually no skill or strategy and the animations are so robotic. It was fine at first but then you quickly realise you are spamming the same buttons over and over and over.

    2. The way the monster fights progress is boring. Hit the monster until it flees, chase it across the map for 5 minutes, hit it again. Repeat about 3-4 times and you win. It's just so tedious and again, at first it's fine but it gets old after several hours.

It has so many good qualities, I love the way the game progresses with lots of things to collect and do but ultimately the process to get through the game is ruined by the issues I've written above.

I would actually rate the game more like 6/10 but because of all the ridiculous 10's I wanted to balance it out slightly.

As a 14 years franchise fan, It is very hard for me to evaluate this game. MHWAs a 14 years franchise fan, It is very hard for me to evaluate this game. On one side I couldn't be more happy of having back the chance to play MH on my home console with better multiplayer functions and graphics. On the other hand I coldn't help but being frustrated by comparing this game to all the others recent entries in the series. All things considered I gave it a 7 out of 10. MHW is infact a good, and very well crafted game; sadly it s flowed by some severe issues that could easly make it look like the worst entry in the franchise for someone. This is true expecially for old MH veterans, that surely have very different expectations than newcomers, or any other player wich is less awere of this game's heritage.

What follows is my personal review, divided by different categories.

    GRAPHICS -meh-
MHW Graphics don't shine mostly becouse low-definition textures, and clipping problem that afects armors, weapons and monsters all togheter. All things considered, I would have reasonably expected this part of the game to be a little better then it actually is. Same goes for Frame rate wich is sadly very far from stability and even farther from the 60 FPS threshold. I personally think that the game would have grealty benefited from having a 30 FPS cap, instead of having framest fluctuating constantly between 50 and 25, making all feel sluggish sometimes.
On the bright side, the PS4 pro comes with 3 diferent settings that let the player chose the way they prefer to experience the game ( one of these prioritizes frame rate, another does the same for resolution, and the third one is a mixture between the two). The game is also provided with full HDR support, and benefits of a very good art direction which makes it pleasent to the eye at first glence.

    SOUND -good-
The soundrak is on par with the older instalments of the series, many of the themes are still there in all their glory, many others have been rivisited without bein worse. Just one thing I noticed aobut the audio in genral is that it has been settet to be very low for some reason. I found my self forced to se the TV audio higher than I usually do with other games and with TV in general, just to be able to fully apreciate the beuty of the soundrtack, why this happens is a mistery to me, if it is a gamedesign choice than I can say it is a very bad one, but I realize that this is not the only factor in paly here.

    STORY -meh-
And here we come to the sore notes. For some reason, probably the one to appeal to a much broader audience, Capcom decided to focus more on the many story. For the old fans like I am, this reminded me a lot of MH4 that did the same, but in a way better way. This game has some quests that are sotry only and presents themselves avulse of the game very gameplay. You find yourself to run arround without bein able to attack or just for the sake of hearing people talking. This missions are not completely bad per-se, they are just boring most of the times and the purpose they serve would have been served much better by some dialogs or short cutscenes between real missions.

    GAMEPLAY -super good-
By far the best part of the game. Combact system is better then it ever was, all wepon types recived some rework to make them even better. Almost all the semplifications like the monster guide, weapons tutorial and weapon trees available at the forge make the game feel younger the ever. Also the things you can interact with in the maps environments make a big deal into making the world of MH feel alive. I won't deny that all of these are big semplifications, but I more then welcome them if they are done with the palyer's quality of life in mind.

    CONTENT -terribly bad-
MHW sadly suffers, if compared with ALL the other entryes in the series, of a severe case of lack of content. The situation is best explained with a confrontation between this game and MH4U (3DS).
    - Number of locations: 6 (MHW)/ 19 (MH4U)
    - Number of large monsters to hunt: 31 (MHW)/ 74 (MH4U)
I'm not reporting the number of quests since the data for MHW is not yet available on monserhunter.wika.com, wich is the source of these informations.
    However you should consider that:
    - MHW has NO class G missions
    - MHW has NO guild missions
Moreover the absence of the guild makes it so that, by a precise game design choice, most of the game content is made available to the player only after finishing certain parts of the main quest. Which is not bad per-se, but contributes to create a sense of lack of content and bore for the veterans wich will find the game very easy and slow in it's first pahses, being deprived of the extra freedom and difficulty that guild missions provided in previous games.
The only hope I have is that in the future DLCs and add-on missions will be added to the point that this lack is goin to be at least parcially cured. But it feels sad that content I was used to get for free from previous titles I will have to pay extra now.

Monster Hunter World adds on an already exceptional series to cater to both veterans and newbies, showing us just how powerful the game is on the next generation consoles. As a veteran this game has brought me back to my roots and now shares the masterpiece of the series in a greater worldwide light, much to the delight of fans who have already been singing its praises for the past decade.

Afterwards I felt relief that it was over rather than any semblance of accomplishment or satisfaction. It's a very easy game that's only challenging because of the clunky game play and huge volume of attacks required to kill a monster.

This game is clearly not for me, which is very disappointing because I LOVE dinosaurian types of enemies and RPGs. I thought this would be a surefire purchase and instead I'm walking away from it wanting a refund and utterly baffled as to the praise and high scores that it has received.

As somebody who has never played this franchise before perhaps its not the best game to play first, but my time with Monster Hunter World was not the inviting experience I had hoped it would be. It is in fact, a VERY long lesson in redundancy, and while done with a particular flare for the fun and silly - it wasn't enough to save me from the feeling of overwhelming simplicity.

For those of you looking to experience a traditional hack-and-slash adventure RPG, stay away - this is not that. I see a lot of people likening it to Dark Souls, but the Souls series has nowhere near this much crafting and menu time - and I think the comparison largely draws from the flare or "SOS" mechanic, that works a lot like signs did for Dark Souls.

It DOES have a distinctive MMO lite feel, which I detest on consoles, and in general. MMO games are not something to commit to casually, as we learned with Destiny and The Division, and here its no different. MMO fans will be disappointed by the lack of depth and adventure RPG fans will hate the lack of action. I definitely felt as though I was being spoon fed a line of boss battles as I trudged through the campaign - and if you want that wait for the Shadow reboot.

Sound was good, graphics were good for an engine that was being used to make Dead Rising and Dragons Dogma some time back. Customization was decent, and at first I liked the feline companions until they made it a point to force a cat-pun every five seconds. There are plenty of weapons to choose from but really its the same three classes as always (melee, ranged, magic/tech), so take it for what you will.

The one thing they did brilliantly was timing, because the game launched when there was nothing but Far Cry to contest with for a 4 month span, and everybody was bored. So naturally, it will be a huge success. Just beware - if you aren't a Monster Hunter fan and you were expecting more of the Dark Souls/God of War vibe, its very limited. Expect Final Fantasy with more menus and less magic.

You might spend 15 minutes fighting a monster and then have to chase it across the map, only to have it "leave the area." Why build that into the game??? It's annoying and a waste of time. And as you're chasing it, the in game "GPS" - aka Scout Flies, just stops working so you have to keep resetting it. There are a deep crafting and gathering system various fighting styles and a decent amount of content. My issues come from having so many mechanics left unexplained that you will get punished for not knowing. There is a lot of stuff you will have to go to the wiki or youtube for to even stand a chance if you are not a series vet. Trial and error isn't a bad system if the length of trials wasn't anywhere form 30min -2hrs to walk away with nothing. The pacing of fights is interrupted by monsters running away at random or monster flying away to the other side of the map.
There are also a lot of smaller issues that don't make sense. Some actions will cause you to carefully put away your weapons in a fight. Some animations are overly long and you are locked into animations for a few moment after they end, making some combat and item use very clunky and some items take longer than others with no indication on what items will take longer Setting a trap is faster than drinking a potion. Single player doesn't feel balanced when monsters can chain stun and leap over or sometimes glitch through impassable terrain and are very much HP sponges until you have weapons beyond that monster's level, even when matching up against elemental weaknesses. Multiplayer is where the game shines. Having multiple hunters makes the fights go by at much more reasonable pace and adds a sense of excitement, but the multiplayer set up is not the best.
Once you start to get past the quirks and get some outside help the game can be very fun, until something brings it back down again.

Now this game is pretty much on line with the PSP title I played so I'm sure its pretty accurate and enjoyable to the fan base. The mechanics are maybe good for a MH title but not good at all compared to the basics of good gameplay. The customizing and crafting seems like it would be effective which would be needed for this game, I don't think this game stands up well for any fan base not already initiated and not something I would pay more then 10 dollars at a local disc replay store. Might not be exactly right but I don't claim to be a pro. I will say that I am automatically not going to like a game that is shallow in characters and story so that should be considered if anyone reads this review.

The game does look great for the most part but don’t let that convince you that this is a good MH title, go play MH3U, MHGenU or MH4U instead, you’d thank me in the long run

    The story is pointless...
You left your continent for what reason? These dragons left your land and came to this island, also you are the fifth group to come over. They way they talk in the game the first group came over I would say 30 to 50 years ago. So in say 60 years these creatures have stayed on this island, then why are you hunting them. Second your first mission is to cut down the number of the smaller monsters, why? They don't fly so they can't leave the island and if they over populate it would destroy the ecosystem which would take care of the bigger monsters.
The main point of the game is broke...
The main point of the game is combat, your job is to kill the monsters, but it doesn't even work. First, forget the lock-on...pointless, spent most of my first fight swinging at air because even though I was locked-on to the creature, I was facing the other direction. Second, the layout of the buttons is stupid. Three attack buttons R2, circle, and triangle + circle. Why not use R1, R2, and R1 + R2? Oh because R1 is to put your weapon away and sprint, notice I said put away, to get out your weapon you hit Triangle, why? Simple fix R1 and R2 as attacks Triangle to pull out and put away your weapon and circle for sprint.
    The game is pointless....
First off from what I said before you could just stay home. Second, it is such a grind fest. I have no desire to chase the same creature to the same four areas before I kill it, I am not going to grind for equipment if I have to chase the same creature in circles. Third, it is rinse and repeat. You track a creature, which in most cases wasn't there the last 5 to 25 times you went out but now you find tracks everywhere, you attack him, which takes seconds to figure out his moves, you chase him in a circle stopping to attack him for short periods of time (nothing but filler), you finally kill him the mission ends, you level up game items, and do it all again. I heard this is 80 to 100 hour just to finish the main quest, but if you cut out the bs, you could probably finish the sad excuse for a story in 10 minutes.
    Bonus...
People are saying the combat is like Dark Souls, if that is true, I am the richest man in the world. I love Dark Souls, The combat is a joke compared to Dark Souls, I have yet to die and lose anything, there is no fear, no drive, no danger,...no fun.
THE GAME IS POINTLESS!!! and that is the cold hard facts

The monsters does almost nothing they only big and take lots of damage and if you are under leveled you're doomed. There is no skills or anything required for this game than leveling up and kill big brainless monsters that does 2 moves each.

The only thing most of the people are bragging about is the graphics which is nothing special at all for a 2018 game. For all of you who are comparing this to the Souls games then you have no idea what the hell you are babbling about.

I will agree that the combat is similar to Dark Souls, but even clunkier, slower, and much more complicated. The tutorials aren't bad, but then you are thrown in on a monster hunt with barely any time and have to continually attack the monster, hoping that it won't run away (which it always does) and then have to keep on starting over again. Also, the learning curve is not very balanced: one monster would be really easy to capture or kill, then the next one had brutal AI.

What bores me the most is the grindy nature and time spent in menus. Most monsters have a nearly infinite pool of health and require a long session of attacking until dead, often becoming really boring toward the end of the fight. Then, the concept of building new armor is cool with monster parts, but it isn't, it requires a large amount of time spent in menus and crafting, and is very complicated.

The internet connection is slow and glitchy as well.
I kept giving this game a chance, and know that 8 hours isn't too long for this type of game, but I found it exceptionally boring, and I love action-RPGs like Dark Souls, Ys, Tales, etc, but this was downright boring. I give it a 1 because the graphics and monster designs are pretty cool.

Not much story to talk about.

    Gameplay
The game has one hell-of-a clunky control set. Attacks take (up to) several seconds to execute and feel sluggish. MHW seems to forget about all achievements modern video-game-controls have.
In-game-menus are un-neccessary complex and mostly to small to read them. Tutorials are text-only and per feature you have to read a 2-3 page long manual.
Lock-on-camera in the game is mostly useless and jumps around wildly.
Also there's no difficulty-settings, so if you're not comfortable with what the game throws at you, you're out of luck.

    Graphics
Graphics are ok, but nothing breathtaking. Environments just don't look as good as you would expect them and the overall color-palette is mostly based on mud-brown, making it hard to distinguish between monsters/environments/items/yourself. This leads to you often missing out important stuff that would otherwise help you.
You definitely see that this game is based on a nearly 10-year old game engine.

    Audio
The monster roars are nice. Music is ok, but sooooooo repetitive. After 1-2 hours it's just annoying (esp. the music that's playing in the main city where you do all the in-between-hunts-stuff).

    Multiplayer
Seems ok, but you can't do proper multiplayer during the main story. So you'll play the first 20 hours of the game by yourself. Multiplayer itself is also very poorly implemented and way more complex to set up than it is in basically every other multiplayer game.

And what a game this is! The learning curve is a bit steep from someone who never has played a monster hunter before. There were lots of new stuff to learn, especially in the first 20-30 hours. I still found out how lots of things work in the game even to the very end, most of which the game doesn't really explain to the player. That's probably what some might find charming about the game.

Let me just start by saying that I really love this game, but it's by no means perfect, so here's a few annoyances I have with it.

My first annoyances is that you have to go into a main quest and see the cut-scene before being able to do the quest in coop with a friend. This is something a few other Japanese games also do (Nioh especially does this and Dark Souls to a degree), they want you to play this how they intended, not how you want to play it. This was really frustrating in the beginning, but after a while you get used to it. I would much rather they didn't do it this way at all. I think this is a Japanese mentality, as I've heard that going into restaurants for instance, you have to eat the meal as they intend it, it doesn't matter if you don't like an ingredient, or is allergic or something like that. I do believe in giving people choices, and if they want to make a coop game, then let me play it coop all the way through if I so chooses.

A few other annoyances are for instance when your character get's stunned/dizzy, and you loose control of the character. I really don't like it when a game makes me loose control, and just has to sit back and watch me die because I couldn't do anything to stop it. I get that it's part of the game and there probably are some armor or skill that can make this a non-issue, but for me this simply isn't fun, and was a major annoyance through-out the whole game.

My last annoyance has to do with me interrupting my friend I was playing coop with. This kind of friendly fire (don't think they take damage) is really frustrating, as I'm sometimes mid-combo and can't stop that combo, and I would just interrupt my friend's attack or something. About two or three hours before completing the game I found a skill that negates this interruption, but both me and my friend would have had a better time without this feature. Playing with strangers, it's super annoying that they can grief you while you carve for instance.

Other than these annoyances, this is one of the better games I've played in a while! The animations on the creatures are top notch, and feels life like! When I see them limping I really feel sorry for the beast, and I find it hard to attack them because of it.

I thought I would get tired of the gameplay loop pretty fast, but I actually didn't, and it was fun to the end! There were always so much to do, that it never got boring. This aspect of the game is truly superb!

As a cat lover/cat owner, the Palico's was what made me buy this game in the first place! The charm of the cat chef and his team of cat cooks won me over pretty fast!

The setting is wonderful, the premise genius and the depth... well, it's quite unreal how many things you can and pretty much have to master to get the most out of the game.

... but that's also the problem. See, this is very, very hard to come into as a newcomer, which I myself am. The combat system is so heavy and unintuitive - not BAD as such, but incredibly difficult to just pick up and play (even spending hours in the combat training area and I still barely felt competent). Nothing is explained well, with the overall feeling being that this game is a love letter to those who have played prior titles on the 3DS and beyond, because it barely explains anything to you, both in terms of story and mechanics. I'm not a rookie gamer either - but even for me it's just... inaccessible is the word.

The cut scenes suck (lip syncing here... well, they haven't even tried), the story (from what I've seen) is bland and not a focus and there's performance niggles even on a PS4 Pro. They are the only negatives I have.

You don't have to enjoy good art to appreciate that it is good art. That's the position I'm in here. Hopefully one day I'll pick it up to play and it'll click - until then, as a purchase recommendation I'd say try before you buy, but be prepared to be either blown away or very frustrated by what you find.

From your first monster hunt of the Great Jagras, to the dreaded Nergigante, there are a lot of things to look forward to when playing this entry. It is one of the most accessible Monster Hunter game to date with many tutorials on gathering, hunting, weapon controls, and more. The world feels much more realistic and many of the old monsters from past games got their moves reworked to feel more fluid and looking like an actual creature rather than just acting like a robotic homing missile, though there are still some monsters that tend to do that. Armor skills and sets are now completely customizable. No longer do you need to get a full armor set to activate skills which is a great thing. Gathering is much easier and quicker with the new scout flies highlighting areas that you can gather and also track down monsters. Movement is much better and you have more freedom and feel less restricted. All weapons you wield will allow you to dodge in all four directions. Forward, back, left, and right. The biggest changer is being able to dodge backwards since in previous titles only the gunlance and lance were able to dodge backwards, however those weapons won't allow you to dodge forward. In World you have that ability to step forward while blocking with lance and gunlance. You can also move around while drinking potions, eating ration, and even well-done steaks. These are all very nice changes, but what about the combat? The previous Monster Hunter game that made combat incredibly fun was Monster Hunter Gen/XX. Well there are no hunter arts around World. At first I was kind of sad to hear that, but after playing it really did not matter. Combat is really fun and every weapon feels powerful. I use every weapon and never found one a did not like. Lance having the ability to have the power guard after using counter guarding. Dual blades down slopes doing the LEVI! Great sword having 3 charge slashes with the last one being immensely powerful. Sword and shield having the ability to mount, change your direction when swinging your blade, and use items without having to sheath. Gunlance dishing out even more damage with exploding bayonet. Bowgun and heavy bowgun having special ammo and the ability to move while firing shots. Bow and arrow with dragon piercer and improved rapid fire shots. Longsword with more options on your sword swings. Hammer with the ability to charge up your attacks and absorb it to do more damage and flinch less. Insect glaive with more aerial attacks like being able to dodge in midair and a much more refined kinsect upgrade mechanic that is much less time consuming. Charge blade with phial charge that runs out over time rather than one usage and the ability to charge up the sword for some extra elemental or impact damage. I have said a lot of good things, but there are definitely flaws. The story isn't that interesting and not that memorable. I only listened to the Japanese voice, but I have heard that the English voice acting was pretty funny to listen to, especially the commander which sounds like he yells all the gosh darn time. You also can get any help during story mode only after you have seen the cutscene or met certain requirements. The upgrade system can be a chore and money consuming. Previous games allowed you to get the weapon you wanted from that monster you played. In this game it is now in trees which means if you want to get let's say, Bazelguase switch axe, you need to go through part of the iron tree, then the Tzitzi, and then the Bazelguase. There were some weapons in previous game that required you to do this, but it wasn't many. The gathering hub is also kind of a let down. Rarely anyone shows up there and there are reasons as to why, the biggest one being that the many of the important things you want to do say the smithy and upgrade weapons is not there. Load times are quite long when switching from the gathering hub to HQ for those who use standard PS4 and not the Pro version. It also makes doing Arena quests harder since no is there around the gathering hub and Arena quests can only be done at the gathering hub. The only reason there are now more people at the Gathering Hub is because of Kulve Taroth. Camera can sometimes be an issue and the lock on does an okay job at best, but it can be disorienting at times when monsters move around very quickly and the bigger ones in closed areas just makes the camera even worse. The mounting is sometimes inconsistent as well. There will be times when you deal the finishing blow and taking it down, other times you can do it twice, other times you cannot do the final blow and just stab it to submission, and others when you are thrown off completely for no reason. Monster Hunter World is an amazing game and if you are new to the series, this is probably the best entry to play. Expand

The Elder Dragons were by far the best bosses/monsters in the game, incredible monster design and amazing fight and blasts! The multiplayer also gets interesting when fighting huge monsters like them. I give it an 8.8/10 and I'll certainly play the Iceborne expansion. Expand

The game-play is awesome in this game. The world was interesting and fun to explore. Plus there many other great mechanics. But the story was pretty dull, and there is a little too much going on with some of the mechanics. Still great overall.

The series originally started on PS2 and has moved on to other consoles while mostly retaining it's look and play-style. With MHW the graphics are for the first time upgraded giving a new look to the game. New mechanics are introduced, movesets are upgraded from previous games, and the game is updated for a more modern system.

    Story

The game now actually has a story and while not necessarily a deep story it is certainly a start compared at previous games which had almost no story. The game has cinematic cut-scenes that showcase the monsters right before you start fighting them for the first time.

    Gameplay

Combat is very different from many games which might initially put off players that are used to instantly responsive controls, dark souls games, or other action games. It might feel initially clunky as you get used to the combat. Some weapons are very slow and once you have pressed the button to attack there is no cancelling the attack. Every button press is a done deal and if you spam your way through it then you will be punished. There is no lock-on and you must aim all attacks in relation to where your character is facing. Each weapon has a varied moveset that must be practiced before one can finally start feeling comfortable with the weapon. At the beginning it feels weird but once you get the hang of it it's the best feeling ever.

Mastering your weapon and predicting the moveset of the monster go hand in hand. Each monster has a specific tell that will give you insight at what kind of attack is going to perform. This expands to it's health as there is no health bar in Monster Hunter. The developers behind this game want you to use visual signs of a monster to predict it's health. If there are scars on it's body, if he starts getting tired and having trouble attacking, and if he starts limping trying to get some sleep are all actions that can use to determine the various stages of health left.

Each monster has elemental weaknesses, weak spots, and specific strategies that can be employed to optimally deal damage to the monster. Some monsters are weaker to being stunned, paralyzed, poisoned, etc. Knowing your prey is the key towards being effective. To help you in your endeavor the game comes with a monster guide/encyclopedia that fills up with relevant info as you investigate the monster by examining their footprints or by slaying/capturing a monster. The hunter has access to traps, darts, tools, and other items that can maximize their performance on the hunt.

The true point of this game is of course loot grinding. It's a cycle of beating a monster to obtain more powerful armor and weapons to challenge stronger monsters to then repeat the cycle. There are a great degree of weapons and armor available that can completely change how you play the game. Different parts of armors activate special skills that can make you hit harder, perform critical attacks, sharpen your weapon faster, increase your health bar, etc. Building armor configurations to fit your play-style is some of the things that make this game great.

The game is designed on a quest-based/mission based manner in which you are given an objective. The most common objective is slaying or capturing a particular monster. By fulfilling the quest you receive quest rewards. If hunting a particular monster then the quest rewards are usually parts from the monster. These parts can be used to craft new armors, weapons, and other items.

    Multiplayer

Monster Hunter has always been a multiplayer game starting all the way from PS2 when Online multiplayer was still beginning on PlayStation. Monster Hunter World supports cooperative multiplayer with up to 4 players. The monster health is scaled between one player and four players. The lobby rooms support up to 16 players. There are squad/guilds and you can also invite players via friend list.

    Conclusion
MHW is a game that provides countless hours of entertainment. It is a fun game with a lot of different playstyles. Capcom has made it clear that they will continue to add new content for free while only charging for cosmetic stickers and gestures. While the game has some few mechanical flaws they not detract from the overall experience. While I believe the game isn't a 10 and instead a 9.2, some reviewers have been extremely harsh and inaccurate. As such I'll round off my review to a 10.

If you are the a player that enjoys loot based combat with friends and don't mind learning the different gameplay then you will surelly enjoy this game. Give it a try. I'm sure most of you will enjoy it.

So then I purchased this Monster Hunter World on PS4 thinking I should give it another try. I asked a couple of strangers to help me since I had no clue what I was doing because its was pretty daunting they let you pick over 15 weapons and looking at the entire screen with so many things going on.

I have to say without a couple of people showing me the basics I would not have enjoyed it as much because I wouldn't know what I am doing. So let me share you the pros and cons to this game -

Pros - Great Graphics, Amazing monsters to take down and challenging, huge open land with great ambiance. Create your own character and customize your weapons, and armor.

Cons - Loading times are extremely slow, No story had to skip most of it, Camera should be fixed. The lock on button should be corrected, and better inventory management system

Overall - I would give it 9/10 since I played over 100hrs and still enjoying it. I love playing with other Monster Hunter Veterans who can show me how to play it properly with the BOW, and other tips while hunting. It's just a great game overall and enjoy playing it with friends on the hunt for monster parts to build up your stuff.

However, I must say that this game is a long-term investment in gameplay time. Although it is a lot easier to not have to grind for things, It is something you ill have to do in order to achieve the state/acquire the equipment that you want, but the game is so engaging, It doesn't really feel like grinding. To boil this game down to its simplest, its eat, hunt, craft. Before a hunt, you want to sit down and eat. Eating can give you a boost in health, stamina, attack, defense or give you some elemental resistance. Personally me I chose to always go with the Chefs Special because it always gave the max stamina and health. Plus it would then give a boost in the other three, its always random but I liked going into each hunt with max health and stamina.

Next on the list is hunt, sometimes you go on a hunt to carry on the story or sometimes you may be looking to craft something. Which brings me to the last of the loop which is craft. The stronger monsters have better armor and weapons so your goal is to keep fighting stronger monsters so you can craft better armor and weapons so that way you can be better equipped to fight stronger monsters. That’s the loop and you just keep doing that over and over again until your heart is content.

The game has plenty of weapon options which allows for almost any playstyle. When I first played the game in the beta, I leaned towards the bow and arrow which feels great to use but in the beta, I struggled against the Nergigante which forced me to try different weapons. I wound up using the sword and shield, really liked that so when the full game was released I immediately went to that.

What drove me to keep playing this game is, it felt unique. I am having a hard time trying to figure out what this game reminds me of. Yes, its another loot based grinding game but the combat itself doesn’t feel like any of those kinds of games. The combat itself feels very unique and its refreshing to play something so different.

If I had to poke holes in the game, it would probably be its story. It’s just a very bland story that feels tacked on, I didn’t find it interesting at all. The on;y reason why I advanced the story was so I could open up new monsters, areas, and quests. Also, this is just a personal pet peeve but in all of the cut scenes that your character is in, they’re just an empty vessel. They don’t do or say anything, they just stand there, it’s just odd because all of the other characters would talk or at least be animated but yours just stands there.

One of the tougher questions I could ask myself is what is my favorite monster? I think I would have to go with one of the Elder Dragons and that’s the Teostra. I just thought it was a very cool looking monster. It kind of reminded me of a Griffin. It has a lion head with a flying dragon body. Oh, and it breathes fire, yea its pretty cool. That was the final armor set I went with because I liked the way it looked and I enjoyed fighting it.

Personally, for me, I put in over 70 hours in one week and I think I’m good. I have had a blast playing this game but now I’m starting to get that itchy feeling like its time to move on and try something new. But this is a game that I highly recommend for everyone, give this game a try and I’m willing to bet you will get your money’s worth.

I didn't buy the game and would have never bought it myself, it was a present. The first 3-4 hours were really boring for me because I did not understand how to fight, what do the weapons do, how the monsters behave etc.

It's incredible ho much grinding is in this game. I have played more than 60 hours in the last 2 weeks and I just love to hunt, gather stuff and grind in this game. There is nothing I hate more than grinding in most games but it's something very satisfying about the mechanics in Monster Hunter World.

The weapons move and fight like in no other game. Holding the weapon in your hand feels like it actually has weight depending on the type of weapon and does what you would expect of that type of weapon. Many people say that the weapons are uncontrollable but I would say that it is only their lack of knowledge and skill that is uncontrollable. At first was having so much trouble controlling most of the weapons but then it clicked ! You start noticing what the monsters will do by the way they are moving, you learn their speed of attack, distance and you learn to time your attacks and movement. Dodging and then countering the monster's attack with an attack or series of attacks is just so satisfying. I started to play with a shield & sword until I learned how the fight goes and then tried all the other weapons. It is amazing how good some of the weapons feel in your hand.

I never thought I would like this kind of game but it's truly awesome.

It also has some problems too but for the most part the game is just awesome. I for instance would like to have motion controls/gyro aiming for the ranged weapons.

I could understand why some people would not like the game but that is valid when speaking about every genre/game.

Whatever it wants to achieve it does: hunt monsters and build equipment and your character in a very fun and satisfying way. Awesome job CAPCOM, you get a 10/10 from me !!! Totally worth the money especially since you can find it cheaper now than the release price. If I knew that the game would be so much fun I would have paid full price for sure.

I tried so, so hard to like this game. It may have had something to do with spontaneously dropping £55 buying it from the PS store because the reviews were just universally glowing. It may have been because I do believe there is potential here for a really gripping game but it just falls short in my opinion. I've put maybe 30 hours into this game and sadly I came away unimpressed.

The good first; its a beautiful game to look at. The worlds are sprawling, dense and lively. It really does feel like it's own little ecosystem and there is so much to see and discover. Every zone is just as good as the last and it is clear they put effort into building a game world. Graphically it is stunning. From the hub world to the monsters it really does look very, very good.

The monsters are designed wonderfully and are quite diverse. There are a whole host of dragons, rock monsters, sea creatures and they all live together in the zones independent of one another. This leads to some jaw dropping moments when you might be hunting one monster only to find you both stumble across the path of another. A huge battle between two giants then occurs and it gets quite thrilling at times.

Special mention is required also for the sound design, the soundtrack is fitting and well done and it scores these battles with these fearsome creatures all too well.

Unfortunately the rest of it fell flat for me and my biggest disappointment and the biggest thing hindering this from being a truly great game is the combat system. No matter which weapon I tinkered with I never felt truly engaged with the combat, it feels clunky. Your lock on will disappear at random. You have to un-sheath your weapon at the most inopportune moments. Everything just seems to take that half second too long to feel engaging. I read a review that claimed this was "Dark Souls meets Jurassic Park" and that was my "shut up and take my money" moment but the combat system is way short of those games and frankly quite a few others as well. This was a crying shame to me because you are presented with this lush world with interesting things to hunt but the hunting itself is unresponsive and quite dull. It really amounts to, if not quite a button bash a very repetitive exercise.

Which leads me to my other issue, the monsters as wonderful as they look never really get much beyond mildly difficult. If you've played Souls games then it'll seem like childs play. Any serious attack they mount is usually telegraphed to high heaven which is handy because the evasion side of the combat system has the same struggles as the attacking side of things. More irritatingly the battles can take an age. I have no issue with that, it adds to the epicness and so on but the length is usually attributed to the fact the monster runs off after you've hit it for enough damage, then you chase it, attack it some more and the cycle repeats until finally it dies. There is a sense of elation when finishing a battle which is quite good but often its more of a "thank god thats over" than "that was awesome!". There are ways to stop them running but like most things in the game it isn't made very clear or obvious.

For all the talk you'll have read of this being the most accessible game in the series yet I can only wonder how obscure the previous games were. There are some middling tutorials but there are swathes of the game that are inadequately explained or not explained at all. I'm all for a game not holding your hand but you shouldn't need to be playing alongside a wiki guide to get the most from it.

The voice acting is awful. Even for a JRPG it is corny, stilted and gave me absolutely zero interaction or relationship with the characters who might as well not be there. The plot is non-existent. You're on a ship, you're a monster hunter, a monster wrecks your ship, here's the hub world, there are lots of monsters out there. Kill them all. For reasons. Honestly sometimes you just feel like an A-hole chasing down these magnificent looking creatures. Quite a few are actually quite docile before the idiot in the weird armor starts bonking them on the head. I get that the plot isn't necessarily what this game is about but really some effort should be put forth to give us a reason to go out and hunt these things. The missions are nearly all related to going out and hunting and the reasons never get much past "they're in our way".

Thus the game basically becomes "hunt this monster to get materials to make this loot" and it doesn't try to hide it either. That is really the whole premise. I'd be down for that, so down for that if the combat were better and you gave me even a hint of purpose for doing so. They have this huge world but without a story it feels pointless, empty. It's a grind with the carrot at the end of the stick constantly regenerating

I wanted to like this but to a new player of the series its just an average game that could have been so much more

You really live in fear sometimes of the roaming monsters. One time my main target was a dumb bird that carries rocks and eggs but a stone dino came and attacked us! Both me and dumbbird ran away and continued our fight elsewhere.
There is so much content here and even though it´s a lot of online components all can be enjoyed offline alone, or with your CAT!

Your Palico will be your most precious companion and the outfits your cat wears will be top priority. Everytime I downed a new monster I checked if the new catfit was good and usually it was SUPER KAWAIIIIIII!

There might be some time to learn all there is to learn but if you find 1 weapon you like just go for it. You will get the chance to change it up. I started with Hunting Horn, played most with insect Glaive and now feeling around the Switch Axe and Sword & Shield.

I will give it 10 cause it has so much to experience for the price tag.
Free Monster DLC will come and there is paid cosmetics. I bought an outfit for my "Handler" (She is annoying, embrace it) for a small amount. There is also a little face paintings and hairs that can be bought.

One of the best games I've ever played. Don't listen to people's negativity. This game requires skill. You will not get too far if you won't put enough time to learn how the combat works! Just give it some time and you wont regret it!

I love the universes, monsters and game system of Monster Hunter since Tri on the Wii. But there was always a problem with balancing, need of grinding and gameplay length that prevented me of fully enjoying the franchise,
This game solves all the flaws of the previous ones keeping the strong part. I loved it, and I'm on it for the next few months!

The good side about this game is that it welcomes new comers with open arms and the environment and all of the open world feels natural just like a living place, unfortunately it just feels like that at the very beginning and then you realize how poorly made this game is. Sometimes i just dont get JRPG's they put a ton of mechanics outdated graphics and in some JRPG's the story is bad(like this game for example)(and lets not talk about the lip synce and the bad cut scenes) . But were here for the multiplayer are we ?.. right? well here comes the fun part, if you have friends this game for multiplayer is better than destiny 2, you have a ton to do and you can even invite other people to play with you via SOS flare or just joining other peoples quests. Overall this game is a 7 because of the poor design and outdated gameplay that mad me uninstall it i wish i could get a refund via PSN because its not worth my money and time the most awful part are the tutorials there are a ton and its like reading history books and it just makes the game boring AF !!!! and a ton of recycled elements in it. Destiny 2 is way fun than this outdated **** ! how could people give it a 9 ?????? Wait for a sale and price drop ! Expand

First off this is a time consuming game, and expect to spend at least a hundred hours into for endgame / true ending. And its pacing is progressive, starting out quite slowly ( my initial hunts usually took longer than 30 mins ) and getting faster and harder the more you play it ( you eventually start doing speedruns ).

The story is just a placeholder, and isn't really good, but thats hardly the selling point / main appeal of the game. If you play games mostly for the stories and not its gameplay, than this game isn't for you.

The game is basically a huge collection of boss fights (the monster you hunt), with a LOT of harvesting and crafting mechanics in between. The monster (bosses) themselves are really varied and fun, and there are quite a lot of different weapon arquetypes (14 in total). Add all the different armor bonuses, and you have a gigantic amount of possible build combinations to fight each monster.

The combat takes some time to get used to, since usually both the direction and animation time can't be changed/canceled after you do an attack. So you have to pay close attention to the monster's animations to figure out your next move. Do you need to dodge, guard or counter attack? Do you have time for a slow but high damaging combo, or just a few fast attacks? I would recommend not switching weapons too much at the beginning. Just go with the one you like the most, and GET GUD with it before switching it out.

The multiplayer option is kinda of hit or miss. While there isn't any technical problem with it, I find it very frustating that the respawn stock is shared by all players. This means if someone dies too many times, the quest fails for everyone else as well. The good thing tho, is that you can play the entire game Solo if you so desire. However playing with a friend or good players is a total blast, and I haven't played such a fun co-op game mode since Mass Effect 3.

The crafting mechanic, which is quite a lot of the meat of the game is very fun and well polished. It makes it very easy to understand which enemies you have to kill in order to obtain what you want, And while there is some RNG when getting the mission rewards, the drop rate is high enought that you never feel cheated or bored from doing the same thing over and over.

In regards to its longevity, every week there are new events with special loot and new monster will be added for free, and if you want try out every possible weapon/armor combination expect to keep playing it for the rest of your life.

The biggest flaw that I see in it, is that a lot of tihngs go unexplained in the game. What does elderseal do? What does this skill actually do? What can a lot of the items be used for? How to use a given weapon? And so on.

So overall, if you like hard boss fights, have a lot of time to spare, and like to do character/build optimization, then go ahead and play this game, you will love it! However if none of those are of interest to you, you are better off playing something else.

The monsters that you fight vary from giant vore lizards, to lava fish, to a dragon whose scales are made of steel and attacks by making tornadoes, and just by looking at them you can guess mostly what they can and will do to attack. There are fourteen weapons that you can bring along on your hunts like the defensive and slow lance or the fast and nimble dual blades that can suit just about any ones play style. Most people I see that complain about the game, complain about the combat being slow and clunky, if you find that's an issue just pick a different weapon or understand you cant dodge while you are in the middle of a swing with a giant sword. Many also complain about the game being to easy, and while it is the easiest in the series, it picks up fast around the time you fight the anjanath, a fire breathing t-rex. Yet still, the game is not for everyone. Do note that there will be a grind, in it you fight monsters, carve them up and make weapons and armor from their dead bodies and use them to fight harder monsters and in turn carve them too. Don't come into the game expecting a good story too, while it is somewhat passable nothing about it is note worthy except for the cut scenes you get when you meet new monsters. While I do wish more monsters had unique themes, and more of the weapons designs were a little more bold, mhw Is an amazing game that you will enjoy if you are tired of games where you just mash the attack button and want a bit of a grind. This game overall was great .It was very well done but it does have some flaw to it .I think the farming aspect of this was boring but i was never put off by it .To be honest ,i was kinda addicted. The combat system and how the game plays can be off putting to players that has never played a monster hunter game before but this is still a good transition from the 3ds to the other consoles

    Cons:
    - Controls can be intimidating
    - The Handler is extremely dislikable
    - Trolls
At first, the controls can be intimidating. They seem a bit complicated and mixing that with the fast-paced gameplay of MH might scare some players off, but it just takes a little bit of time and practice to master. The Handler is... one of the worst/most annoying characters in gaming history (in my opinion) - she's always trying to get herself killed. Online trolls, as with any other game, will try to ruin the experience, but luckily devs are looking into ways to prevent this.

Definitely at least give this game a try!

The game is graphically incredible; the armour, weapons, monsters, characters are all beautiful. The game is content packed and also has frequent updates and free DLC.

Other game companies should really look to Capcom and the Monster Hunter series and aim to tick all of the boxes this game has.

What is my only negative? The game is a little slow when loading on the standard PS4.

Great game. Difficult to get into as it has many layers but the overwhelmed feeling you get to start transforms into pure happiness over the complexities of the game. It has a depth that you, as the player, feel like you are discovering for yourself. The story is whatever but nobody is here for the story. Monster fights are great, the grind is fun, a lot of hours put in.

Honestly, if the Low and High Rank portions wasn’t as polished and an incredible experience to go through. This score would be 7/8 margin just because compared to previous games, the rotating event quests, RNG investigations for RNG loot, reduced weapon and quest pool, and less challenging solo player end game. But, with the incredibly constructed world, incredible combat experience, and cohesive experience, the downpoints are more just demands for more content.

I won't rehash the problems I had with World simply because they make me profoundly sad. I wanted to like the game, I hoped the new direction would bring the series to a new level, but instead, the whole thing blew up in my face like a Marshmallow Peep left in the microwave too long.

Moving to real consoles has paid off for Monster Hunter. The fifth installment is bigger, nicer and funnier (a bit). In addition, a number of free addons will extend the entertainment for another dozens of hours. [Issue#283]
