The changes in this game are insane - Some you may don't notice at first but others will just make your heart warm. They did a perfect job with this game compared to previous ones of this series. Only thing i had to get used to was the monster roster but that doesn't change the fact that this game is perfection. Bought a Ps4-Pro just for this game and i regret NOTHING! Expand

As someone who has tried multiple Monster Hunter games and has had trouble enjoying them, I finally found one I that slightly turns the corner from boring to fun. I have a PS4 Pro with a hybrid hard drive and the game ran very smoothly for me.

    Pros:

-Fantastic Visuals and great variety of biomes
    -UI has been vastly improved
-Many annoying features from prior entries have been ratcheted down or eliminated
-Levels now have lots of verticality to them, which makes exploring much less linear
-Crafting involves less grinding than in the past
-The game main quests are a lot more fun and focus on killing big monsters, rather than gathering mushrooms, for example, like in other entries (but there are still quests for that if you want)
-Voice acting and music are good
-Challenge ramps ups just about right and combat is about precision, combos, and timing rather than button mashing
-Tons of great looking armor and weapons with unique passive skills attached to them in some cases, which adds a lot of depth to preparing to a hunt
-Information needed to play the game is mostly included in the game!

    Cons

-Lip Syncing does not match English voices (yes, we do deserve this) and it's not fully voiced (NPCs will do that Japanese thing of making a sound or a few words unrelated to their dialog text)
-Animations are strange during some cut scenes sometimes (typical for Japanese games honestly)
-UI, while improved, is still far behind Western games and clunky. Things simply don't work intuitively like they could.
-Servers are unreliable for multiplayer and the rules/UI for multiplayer games are strange and obtuse.
-Can be repetitive if you let it, but you can move on as well to the next hunt instead of grinding to alleviate the fatigue of grinding.
-Some weapons feel vastly inferior to others in cost and skill required (may be personal preference)
-Game has "garrison chores" like from World of Warcraft (some may like this, I don't)
-You can (and probably should) eat before going out on a hunt (why is this in everything), but it doesn't require any effort other than a couple button presses, so it's more of a chore, albeit a short one. You can eat while on a hunt now, which is nice.
-Lots of randomness in combat and important drops for crafting, which can be frustrating for some people
-Short, but if you take your time and enjoy everything, I think the length was just fine.

The game has a lot of depth, holds your hand at the start but then lets you go pretty early to explore and figure things out, the mechanics, the upgrade system, the monster fights as the games ecosystem, monsters trespassing in another's area will stur up fights which can be amusing to watch.
I've sunk nearly 200 hours into this game, something I didn't plan on doing so, it's just a credit to the game and the world that has been created.

Listen up. You can criticize Gran Turismo for doing nothing else but racing. This is Monster Hunter and the game mechanic IS and will always be the same, just the Monster and Difficulty varies.

So, having this out of the way, lets go to the Review.

I am playing Monster Hunter since Monster hunter Freedom Unite on the PSP and having played every Installment since then and fighting now in High Rank on MHW, I can really say: This game is good. Pretty good.

Most of the things that made the old MH tedious are gone. For good measure, they kept us some tedious things so we do not forget where the game comes from (I look at you, Egg delivery!) but the Game plays so much better and thanks to the new Engine is phenomenal to look at. The World you are hunting in looks so much more alive and vibrant - It is just beautiful to play this Game.

The Difficulty Curve leaves a bit to be desired. You are stuck for a long time in Low Ranks which is a Cakewalk, before the High Rank Missions start, which are at least a bit difficult. At this point you are also unlocking the more complex crafting mechanics, so I wish the High Rank Features would have been in the game earlier. (Even though I think no one would have cared, since people rush into HR anyway).

If I have to criticize this game then its it lack of monsters. Due to the fact its a new Engine, they had to do everything from scratch - Which causes the game to lack massively in content. But don't fear, you will still get your 100< Hours of Fun out of it and you will enjoy it - If you are into Action Adventures like Dark Souls and God Eater, of course.

I would say it is a solid 9/10 , losing a point due to the mentioned issues. But beside that - Capcom, good game! Thank you.

I felt kinda disappointed for the huge changes that were made with this title like the grind system, where you don't have to stand still waiting too much to collect than in the previous, but most shocking is that you now don't have to take an eye on your inventory or crafting on the go for pickaxes, bug nests or anything.

Difficulty is ridiculous easy, at least story missions, perhaps so damn easy for monster hunter veterans as me, where i'm not even in the need to carry anything from home to the quest (except for some specifically monsters where i prefer to capture them or they burst me because of my resistances). Camera still disgusts in some times.

Although those major changes (and those minor changes that i don't mention), there are huge improvements in this title which makes me feel more like a lover than a fan.

I've already played like 55-60 hours yet (starting on 26th January), and this is what I can say:

Graphic improvements are simply awesome, now enviroments feel more live than ever. There's always something to do than just the main objective where you should pick up everything you see because for new players, you won't know when you will need them.

There are a lot of new functions and mechanics, new maps (nothing recycled yet) which are gorgeous and amazingly huge. Now you find the game with plenty of tutorials, manuals and even a bestiary book, which makes it easier than ever to understand.

You'll find your role here, no matter what, each weapon is well distinguished and there are no bad ways to play it, just better ways.

The game itselft has an interesting story, multiplayer is the big point of the game where all the previous mentioned features become better.

Main content shall give you at about 60-80 hours of playtime, which is worth the price by the way, but also you may try out optional content (missions) getting up to more than 300-400 hours (and i'm not crazy).

DLC content will be completely free (regardless of cosmetic things) where you will find more new monsters (with its own armor and weapons i suppose), you'll be able to play event missions in coop with other Capcom titles (like the Horizon Event or the upcoming SFV) granting an interesting new experience by the way.

By the way, this is the most I can say, after almost 60 hours, even I don't like some changes, I realize that they were made for better, a big step in the right direction, because there is nothing wrong in changing, it is wrong to get stuck in the same for ever and don't explore all the opportunities you have, what Capcom, in my opinion, did it somehow good enough to get my full score.

So what is the point? Going back and forth, killing animals, getting herbs, rinse repeat? Or am I missing something?

Also, I think it is EXTREMELY OBNOXIOUS to force me into creating an online session as soon as I want to load my save file. No. I want to have the option of playing this alone, don't force me into online play, Capcom.

The game is a great, grindy-fest, but after playing it for a couple of hours it's clear to me that this is a niche-game. So my advice is: do not fall into the trap of the reviews and videos saying this is the greatest game of all times. It's not. But it has palicoes and you can have a little piglet as a pet... 10 out of 10!

i like how you can solo the whole game or choose to group up and its not revolved around loot boxes.the game is a little glitchy at times but its ok ,its not about just running up and spamming buttons to take out a monster you have to wait and move around and wait for openings some weapons are harder to master than others overall very fun and addicting

The game has plenty of tutorial text that teach you how to play the game, while that may seem tedious, if you take it seriously you'll have a fantastic early experience. Story is good enough and enjoyable, and makes your character seem like a bad A. The Palico companions are a good comic relief and super cute, and i do not like cats so that's saying a lot. Now to the main meat of this... the game-play loop: It's perfect. The way the grind rewards it's players is how Destiny fans wish their game was. Every fight is a boss battle, situations constantly change, and you can affect what parts you are rewarded with by which part of the body you attack on the Monsters. The online sessions can be a little annoying, but for this to be the series first big entry on a new gen system with fantastic online capabilities, it's not worth complaining about since i've had no problems playing with friends when i want to.
If you want a challenging game, a new series to get into, a game to grind, grind, and grind... and be rewarded for it... this game is for you. There is nothing more satisfying than landing a successful mount on a monster, or capturing one before time runs out. And with 14 different weapon types, traps, bait, armor, and skills there's not a play-style that's not in this game. To top all of this off, the soundtrack for the game is incredible and puts it all together.
Do yourself a favor, pick up Monster Hunter: World and give it a good chance. Get through the very early game patiently and learn the core of the game, and you'll be addicted to the game... just like this guy who has never touched a Monster Hunter title previously.

After moving from a portable system to a home console the world of monster hunter has become much more immersing, getting rid of loading screens and having many monsters typically fighting each other when they meet, either in what is called turf wars or just fighting each other normally. The game itself is rather simple in choosing between 14 different weapon types to fight boss like monsters and create gear out of their carves and materials. The game itself gives you, the player, a great sense of progression in that you fight progressively harder and more complex monsters and creating progressively stronger gear as a result. If you enjoy challenging fights, grinding gear, and seeing yourself improve this game is a great introduction into the world of Monster Hunter.
In the past this game has had a stigma of being rather hard to get into, whether that be the many gathering quests that are required in past games or the complexity of the game that was typically not explained to you in game. All that changes with World as the game is much more streamlined to help new players get into the game. If you’re someone who is new to the series or had trouble getting into the game in the past and want to try it out again this would be the best game to start. Instead of forcing you through many gathering quests the game quickly throws you into the world. The game constantly gives you tutorials to be able to understand the various mechanics involved with the game like crafting and farming instead of keeping it rather unknown like in previous games.
The gameplay has also been revamped to be easier to get into. There is a new mechanic in scout flies that help you easily get into the fighting as they lead directly to the monsters instead of forcing you to look over the map. The tutorials also expand to the weapons and show many of the combos and mechanics involved with each weapon, as well as a training area that explain the multiple combos and the inputs required. There are also many small changes like newly added damage numbers that help you, the player, get feedback on your gameplay whether that would be knowing where to attack or just how much your attacks do.
With the increased accessibility that many of the changes bring to Monster Hunter: World, this is a great starting point into getting into the series. One that you will hopefully enjoy!

70 hours into the game, yet I could not give a 9 or 10. New to the franchise, I have to say Monster Hunter gives me new fresh excitement and somehow annoying feeling. I love the game but also hate it in some occasions. This game is great but can be better. Let start with good parts first.

    Pros

    1. Combat system is great and very complicated. I am veteran in Soul Series. Combat can be clunky at first but once you get used to it, It feel great. Attacking the weakness never been so important. I feel satisfied every time I hammer the monster's head. Forget about lock on system, we don't use it in this game. Every weapon has its own combo and depth. You cannot master it in short time.

2.World dynamic. It is unique system you can't find in any game. Map designed is great. Monster can roaming around and fight other monsters. It sparks excitement everywhere, although it gets repetitive later on but it leaves good impression to me. Visual is beautiful

3.Great BGM - get pump up every time when fight monsters

    ------------------------------------

    Cons

    1. It does not encourage people to play multiplayer as it should do, especially duo. Monster health will get 2.6x when someone join, regardless of number. (2 players will be at most disadvantage). Reward money will share among players ( more people = less money) and Faint also shares (meaning if someone die 3 times it can cause game over even you don't die). I don't see any benefits to play multiplayer if I am good enough to solo monster myself, unless you want to enjoy playing with friends.

    2. Tutorial is not effective enough. Surely, this game has tutorial but it is not enough. Most of the times, you have to go online and search for information. There are a ton of things the game does not tell you or clearly explain to you. Watching guide on youtube and pro player playing your favorite weapon are a must, or else you will miss some technic. A lot of confusion here, you need to read wiki, where to get this XX parts, how to unlock XX, search and read, search and read to your heart content.

3.Lack of objective - This game has its story mission but the main problem is this game does not have EXP unlike others. You will get better by forging new weapon and armor. However, weapon and armor you want will come from few specific monsters. Once you are done your gears, you have no reasons to hunt other monsters that you don't need its part. Sometimes, I just stare at the screen and don't know what to do because I can't improve my character further and if you solo all the way, you have plenty of money. There is jewel random drop from monster but it is random. If you love grinding, it is ok but if you don't then that is it.

    4. Roar ??? - I don't know what others think but I hate monster roar's system. I know you can nullify it with Earplug skill but it is not easy to get lv5 Earplug. I think this system should be removed entirely. It is not fun to wait 5 sec when monster roar, or be forced to use certain skill

    .... ....

Story is not focused here. At least Capcom has tried. I don't want to complain. They are good cinematic btw.

    .......

In sum, Monster hunter world is an awesome game with some serious flaws. Some people will love, some will not. Combat system is good enough to win over repetitiveness but still I prefer the game with less RNG, and please adjust monster's health based on number of players as well (not just 1 or 4)

There are some downsides though, it is a pretty grindy game, but not in a bad way. You will be in 40 hours play time and still not fight every monster or type. The hitboxes are not the best. There will be times that you look like you're away from the monster and they will run by and you will still get hit even though it doesn't look like you're close to it. The camera can become annoying with the bigger monsters. Depending on the angle a wing can take up your entire screen rendering your efficiency in battle. There are however ways to avoid this in the camera setting, but you're giving up some freedom in your movement to do so. This game had me hooked for about 90 hours (which isn't bad for any game) but eventually I found it got very boring. It's rinse and repeat. Over and over again. Kill monster, upgrade armor,ad infinitum. Probably for people who are into multi-player games. Solo campaigns will eventually get too tedious to want to continue. Still looks great though, and I did enjoy the game...until I didn't.

Here you play as your own created hunter with your kitty companion and you set out to slay monsters, which I feel are doing nothing wrong, theyre just minding their own business, living life and humans come around to mess that up for them..
Im not some peta vegan, but at first I felt kind of unconfortable just running around slaying monsters for being a nussance…
I felt like I was the monster… but the fact this game evoked that kind of emotion for me means that theres something special here… the world of monster hunter feels alive and real.. I felt immersed tracking down my targets…
The experience youll have with this game is going to be completely dependent on how you choose to play…
If you play solo, this game is basically a boss rush dark souls with a cat companion that will aid you in battle and heal you, and if you play with friends it’s a destiny feeling game
The game starts out giving you 1 of every weapon type so you can find the right one for you.. and then build your character around it.. this is a decision that’s crucial you make early on if youre not the grind type…
But basically you can investigate the worlds, gather materials to craft potions antidotes and possibly ammo, slay monsters and pick bone piles for parts to craft better armour and weapos for both you and your companion, do side quests for rewards or you can straight up stick to the story which will have you on essentially a boss rush mode quest of monster contract after monster contract…
If you have a crew youll have a decently enjoyable and addictive experience here…
When you start am assignment you can go in solo or with a party of up to 4 players,
You then follow scout flies to tracks that will lead you to your target, and you can pick up items along your way for crafting
and if you go in alone, once you track down your target, you have the option to shoot an sos flare which will bring in random players to help you…
However no matter how you play, solo or with friends… you only have 4 lives to kill this monster.. but heres where my annoyances with this game comes in.. everything is constantly being timed…
I actually love that there are only 3 continues allowed… but the timer on literally everything you do just makes this game feel frustrating.. the most of which is the 30 second timer that starts once the monster is slain… if you die and youre running back to your team and they kill the monster before you get back.. congrats.. you don’t get to skin it for its materials…even if youre the one that did most of the work taking it down, it doesn’t matter… if youre not back in 30 seconds you get nothing but the rewards for completing the task… its annoying that the game doesn’t let you choose when to leave after completion…
Even more annoying is that even the expeditions which is essentially the games free roam mode where youre free to hunt and grind for whatever materials you want with infinite lives is secretly timed as well… I got closed to slaying some dragon and I get a warning that its about to leave soon… then a message pops up that it got away and I felt like I completely wasted my time…
But despite these massive annoyances I had with this game, I just couldn’t walk away…
The fights all feel so different and so engaging, you can trap monsters, you can luer them into turf wars with other monsters, its amazing to think back to a previous battle and realize that that battle was in the same game.. it feels like a distant memory.. and the experience felt so unique.. but it was all in this same world…
its almost magic how great this game does at mixing up basically the same loop of over come the odds and slay this beast… the battles will take you to new parts of the map, youll deal with new challenges and attack patterns
    But its no easy feat…
The dark souls comparisons are made not only because battles are so tough but because of the combat feeling.. its stiff.. its slow… youre juggling your stamina and attacks, youre breaking to sharpen your sword, youre fleeing for new materials.. but one thing the souls games do that I with this game did was show a health bar
the game manages to give you that one more try feeling.. but not nearly as strong as it would if you actually could see the progress you were making.. sure youll cut of tails and sometimes they’ll limp away
But I still had no clue if I was close or not.. if I could keep trying and do it on my own or if I needed to call in for help..
This may seem like a little thing, but I feel this small addition could push this game to the next level.. at least for me, as in its current state bosses just feel ridiciously spongy
And in general the feeling of a lack of progression is the negative aspect that sticks out the most for this game..
    I give Monster Hunter World

The map design is great on the other hand, there is a lot to do with the enviroment, and there are also loads of sidecontent if you like collecting **** Gear progression is boring as well, hunting monsters and making gear from their bodyparts sounds like hell of a fun, but progression consists of flat stat bonuses and visuals, it always plays the same. Patches buff and nerf weapons to insufficient extend where ppl still wont want to use garbage weapons. And worst of all, the way Capcom intend players to grind out jewels is almost predatory to keep the exponentially declining player base from becoming zero, where you are lucky if you got a second attack jewel within 500 hours of gameplay. Its just a glorified HD remake of the same old formula, where devs still dont know how to balance out AI and kept a lot of the useless frustrating element of the old game in (stand up dizziness, tremor, pinned down, etc). It is definitely easier to platinum the game compared to older series, but for $80 it is not worth to buy a HD remake of old MH with less monsters and content. AND FIX YOUR TRASH SERVER CAPCOM. How to level up a game series which never really made a mistake: this.

Multiplayer could have been better. To only join your friend's expedition through SOS-Signals is a bit strange. The connection in general is a bit unstable. That was the only negative thing I have to say. New monster and the old monster feel new. Just impressed how they were able to set up the game. PS:

My husband plays it, and since getting it at least a month ago, it is like I do not have a partner anymore. The fact that he cannot pause the game has not only been frustrating, but embarrassing. The result is that I don't get help with anything around the house anymore - I can be walking by clearly struggling to carry something or do something, but he can't leave that couch because he is battling a monster, and that is clearly more important than helping his wife. We were having my parents come for a visit for my mom's birthday, but he couldn't get off the couch to even say hello to his in-laws (that we only get to see every couple of months) when they arrived. Why? Oh, he was battling a monster. If you are in a committed relationship that you care about and that you prioritize, please think about how you will use this game. Plan to play only at times when you know you will be able to play uninterrupted and when there aren't other people counting on you to be a supportive partner in running a household. Don't plan on spending the entire weekend playing it while your partner does all the household work unassisted. It will lead to major resentment and tension. This is the best game I’ve played in a long time! Much more fun than Zelda BOTW and pretty much anything else that was as highly rated as that within the last few years.

I also find the game play to be a lot more fun than the 3DS versions Monster Hunter.

Ignore all the whiners, this game is easily a 9+ once you learn how the whole thing works.

Capcom has been around for a long time. From Breath of Fire, Dino Crisis, Dragons Dogma, Lost Planet and Monster Hunter. Somebody at Capcom loves huge, epic monsters, dinosaurs and dragons of all types an varieties. Monster Hunter has been the premier franchise for chasing these beasts down and battling, but for years and years was relegated to portable systems. Nothing wrong with that,Capcom has been around for a long time. Nothing wrong with that, but for me I could never get into it. The small screen felt like it was a disservice to how incredible the creatures were and how grand the hunts could get.

That's a problem no more. With Monster Hunter World Capcom finally brings its biggest franchise to the big screen and all of the depth, the nuance, and the monster hunter-ness of it all.

The transition to the consoles isn't a direct 1 to 1 conversion. Monster Hunter world has made a lot of changes to appeal to the mass market. the game has so many quality of life improvements to every single aspect of it. From the crafting, the information on certain monsters, and the core gameplay itself. In game flies help you track monsters, maps are massive with no loading between small rooms, the entire game is polished and a lot of the guess work and tedium of the prior games is gone.

Normally that is the kind of things to make veterans scoff. Dumbing down games is a major problem in today's market, with the appeal of the casual fan making some hardcore franchises incredible player friendly to the fault of the core game itself.

Monster hunter avoids that problem entirely. They take all the info that was relegated to online searches and wikipedia and incorporated all of that into the game itself. Need to know what parts you need and from what monster? The likely-hood of certain mats compared to others, it's all in the game. The ins and outs of using weapons and some of the particulars to certain combos are all in the game. All of these quality of life changes alongside superb online, great visuals and a game in 2018 free of the dlc micro-transaction mess that has become so commonplace all add up to a fantastic experience.

The best part of that is, it's all done without sacrificing depth. The gameplay is weighty, the hunts are intense and you can and will be defeated when you go against Rathalos or Diablos for the first time.

That is also what makes this game so great, the first time you land a trap, mount and capture or kill a monster its a satisfaction that cant be explained. So try it for yourself, and see why Monster Hunter World is easily one of Capcoms best games in years, and one if not the best monster hunter in a very long time.

This game is deep, almost too deep at first glance with systems within systems. However in actual play these systems are rolled out to the player at such a natural and measured pace that the increase in complexity is almost imperceptible. It is also possible to completely ignore many of the systems when they are introduced until you are ready to engage with them. You won't be punished for ignoring some of the new things you are shown, so feel free to come back and revisit them whenever you want.

Anyone can drop into this game and have a good time from the very beginning, assuming of course that you enjoy this sort of gameplay loop. Some would call it grindy, much like an ARPG or lootershooter, essentially you are killing things to get parts to craft gear to kill bigger things to get better parts and so on and so forth.

All in all its a great game in its own right and for sure the best Monster Hunter game yet.

First Monster Hunter game I really played in the series, others never really took off for me. MHW is by far the most first-timer friendly game in the series. I've beaten the game now at about 70ish hour mark, haven't really been rushing though, took quite a few optional sidequests etc.

Enjoyed the pace of low rank. High rank was grindier but ok. After that the game is basically garbage.

Enjoyed the pace of low rank. High rank was grindier but ok. After that the game is basically garbage. It is a combination of small things that make later gameplay a chore.

The controls are supper unresponsive, it feels like there is absolutely no input buffering whatsoever. Sometimes input gets ignored completely.

Everything is so drawn out, even outside of a fight. I mean do I really need to wait 10 seconds for that steak eating animation to play, or when drinking a potion to buff my attack?

Do I have to press X 3-5 times every time I go to pick up quest, hand in bounties, get my stuff from the botanist?

The game never bothers to tell the player that radial menu and sort order of the item bar are part of the load out, go figure why every time a loadout is selected everything gets resorted.

Story is meh, characters are forgettable and often annoying.

As a long term Dark Souls and Co. player, I have my own criteria for what makes a good boss. And one hit kills + RNG is a big no no. A player should be loosing because they consistently make mistakes, not because RNG consistently screws them over.

Big monster fights and turf wars, are very nice, but get really old really fast when they happen like every two minutes. Betelgeuse here is the worst offender.

The monster roar is used way too often. I mean can we fight already instead of being stunned half the time?

Uninspired achievements: hunt 100 of that, capture 50 of this, complete hundred quests etc.

Saw "honest review" of Monster Hunter series on youtube, although of course not a serious review, the statement at the end couldn't be more appropriate for MHW: there is a good game somewhere there it is just buried under a pile of garbage.

Even with the streamlining the depth of the environments can create some frustration for players, new and old alike. You'll constantly find yourself running out of time on a hunt when you're on the cusp of victory because the monster you were after bypassed a bunch of terrains to get away from you and you have no idea which one of the 8 branching paths through tunnels, rivers, and vines gets to them the fastest. These things will eventually be learned however at that point if feels more like muscle memory and less like an accomplishment. It has the same 'souls-borne' movement style the series originated. and sometimes it feels frustrating and overdone. For example; a character walking slowly and taking 5 times longer than the average human to drink a potion from a vial while a dragon charges you or lights you on fire.

It's still a good game but you shouldn't have to push through a barrier of frustration to get to that part.

In the future, I'd like to see them get rid of the timer. Just let people hunt and reward them for improving their time. I feel like Monster Hunter Online is a more enjoyable experience (provided you can read Chinese)

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Monster Hunter World : or how not to make a handheld game seem relevant on current gen consoles

I'll fully admit to knowing very little about the monster hunter series, prior to Monster Hunter World. The few things I did know was it was better know as a handheld title, was reallllllllly popular in Japan and sold more copies then then a Japanese school would selling Yaksoba bread. I'm also aware of the core idea for the game is to hunt monsters, as the title has helpfully explained.

The problems is that its mostly a handheld title. their have been titled on consoles like ps2 ,ps3, wii 360, PC and even wii u(for some reason) but it largely lives on the handheld market and for that reason, having it as the first major console port that most US gamers would play with reworked gameplay was quite the tall order.

Unfortunately, the order was mishandled and instead of getting of getting a salad, we got a salad with bird crap smeared on it. There are many things I can complain about, but i ll start with the "Story".. where you, a silent protagonist that blindly agrees to to anything your to, are supposedly part of an elite group of monster hunters and a have been send to study an elder dragon(that's less a dragon and more of a giant moving blob of lava) and help research monster that live on island and the dragon is going to be coming to.

What this actually translates as, is grabbing a weapon and killing some monsters... and that's pretty much it.. there are bits of story tossed out from time to time, but it feels more of an after thought then a core part of the game.

Most of the game is spent running at a monster that probably could give 2 **** about you and hacking and slashing at it for around 45 minutes.. not even joking.. there are plenty of weapons to use, 14 to start with, but they all pretty much involve hacking ,slashing and trying to doge out of the way of the monsters **** attack.

I say trying to dodge, because it seems like your character is thick in the head and seems to misinterpret DODGE as KEEP SLASHING. which inevitably either knocks your character down, into a stun lock or poisons them.. then you have to try and use a healing or poison curing potion as the monster gets in more free hits and even has free time to do his taxes while waiting for you to die..

and die you will .. a lot.. but you have limited numbers of times of dying before your sent back to the main village place and told to start the mission over from scratch. because Capcom are dickheads.

Even if you work out the brilliant strategy of hitting a monster no more then a few times before rolling out of the way, you 'll have to deal with them getting bored ad running/flying off.. Probably because he was as bored as I was with the same routine.

This is why the game give you 45 minute for the missions,.. because they knew they were **** and knew you'd only be able to use the method of attacking twice and dodging to defeat most monsters..

So looking beyond the barely there story and same old hack and slash combat, what is there?

Well, by killing monsters you get orbs and materials to upgrade weapons and armor.. in order to kill more monsters and get more upgrade points.. meaning the real purpose of the game is to join the cycle of continuously killing monsters, upgrading your character and repeating forever..

So what about positive things... um.. their are a great variety to the monsters, and it looks nice.. really nice.. the monster all have great animations as they fight you or other monsters and the environments all look really great with nice lighting, shadows, and effects going on. ...but looking nice has become pretty common on PS4, pc (and to a lesser degree) the xboner and switch.. I have plenty of games on my ps4 that looks great.. so looking great but doing nothing else doesn't get you a automatic oral fun time.. you need to have compelling story and gameplay to go along with it, if you want my tongue skills on display.. but Monster Hunter World is boring, repetitive and barely has a story in it.. Why would I willingly play this, when i can replay the superior Horizon Zero Dawn, Uncharted 4, The Last of Us, Little Nightmares,Yakuza, or any other game that has looks, good story and fun gameplay in them?

I didn't even mention the bare bones and basic character creation system where the female characters have fat legs and the faces look significantly downgraded in-game.

I wouldn't.. but hey, if you like boring, repetitive games, with very little story, and very little going on other then visuals, then Monster Hunter World us the game for you.. enjoy.. I guess...

Last thing that really bother me is the fact that you have to push a button to unsheathe your weapon and once it is out and you deciede to run it gets put away. Id prefer for your weapon to just auto come out when you start fighting. Overall I expected alot more action, I expected for monsters to be attacking me through out the forest but most of the time thats not the case. I would rate this game a 7 at most. The gameplay feels so incredibly slow and clunky. Simple things like putting away a weapon take a needlessly long time, it may not seem like much, but given how much you'll be putting it away and drawing it during a fight for absolutely anything other than hitting and that this could well lead to you dying as a result, it's hard not to feel frustrated at it.

No, it being worse in the past does not magically excuse any criticism.

I've given the game a generous 5 due to technical issues, even when you select the preset "prefer framerate" the fps goes down the **** often, on numerous occasions it was sub 30fps.

But after buying it and playing with friends who are all hunting a monster for the first time, I'm glad I did.

A very good game, but it's not the best of series. Multiplayer administration is muddler and it was better in the past, i hope capcom change it. In general i expected better from technical production because on 3ds is normal but on a ps4 pro or xbox one x i don't want watch the weapons in the ground or that i can go throught the monsters. It a good game but it could be definitely better

9/10 As a player of all the US releases of this series I am quite happy with the move that Monster Hunter has made back to standard consoles. I have put over 100 Hours into the game and I am very enthralled to say that this is a wonderful addition to the library of games that I own. Minor gripes: Compared to the 3DS and previous releases, the weapon design is a little lack luster; in previous games the long sword would have a scythe design in the upper ranks that made it very pleasing to use, this is not present here rather the game uses the art design of the previous upgrade to build upon which is realistic, yes, but this is a game where you fight dragons with big hulking weaponry. Additionally the difficulty curve from 8* quests to 9* is MASSIVE and unlike anything i have ever encountered in a Monster Hunter game.

Minor Hypes: THE SWORD AND SHIELD GOT A MASSIVE REWORK IN HOW IT PLAYS *CLAPS IN SWORD AND SHIELD

Honestly, if the Low and High Rank portions wasn’t as polished and an incredible experience to go through. This score would be 7/8 margin just because compared to previous games, the rotating event quests, RNG investigations for RNG loot, reduced weapon and quest pool, and less challenging solo player end game. But, with the incredibly constructed world, incredible combat experience, and cohesive experience, the downpoints are more just demands for more content.

I won't rehash the problems I had with World simply because they make me profoundly sad. I wanted to like the game, I hoped the new direction would bring the series to a new level, but instead, the whole thing blew up in my face like a Marshmallow Peep left in the microwave too long.

Moving to real consoles has paid off for Monster Hunter. The fifth installment is bigger, nicer and funnier (a bit). In addition, a number of free addons will extend the entertainment for another dozens of hours. [Issue#283]
